Koli National Park!
In Finnish, " Kolin Kansallispuisto". It's a really big place! Laying in North Karelia, it's 30 Kilometres square! That's 12 miles square, big, huh?
Tumblr media
It was created in 1991, not so long ago! It was used for slash-and-burn(1) agriculture, and is still used for that today. We also keep some traditional Finnish cow breeds there, it might sound kind of lame, but its actually pretty cool! Cows are cute!
The Koli area has many caves! One of them, Pirunkirkko, is 34 meters long and 1 to 7 meters high! That makes 112 feets long and 3.3 to 23 feets high!
There's also an hotel and ski resorts! So you can go have fun with your family, while admiring the beauty of Finland!
(1) Slash-and-burn agriculture consists in cutting and burning plants, leaving them to dry, and burning them. This leaves a layer of ash, the latter being really rich in nutrients, making the soil fertile! It also eliminates any weeds and pest species and, although temporary, it's a good thing! Usually we do this before the rainiest time of the year.
