Submission #1: Tom

The last time I saw Lily Wilkes was the night of Homecoming, 2014. She was wearing a blue dress that had a small silver bow on it that kept on tilting to the side; she was adjusting it all night trying to get it to stay on straight. This was before it all happened, before she booked that job in Los Angeles and before her Instagram had more followers than there were people in our small town.

She went alone, but it was her choice to. Bryan Halpert asked her out two days before, I know. He got her roses. They weren’t the good ones from the florist downtown, though. They were from the dingy corner store across the street, where we used to park our bikes.

She said no.

But, she did it so nicely in her Lily way that Bryan hardly even noticed that she was rejecting him. Bryan found another girl in the end, no doubt. But it wasn’t Lily. And I don’t think he even minded that it wasn’t, actually. But that’s not what you want to hear, you want to know about Lily Wilkes. You’d like to know what restaurant she went to today, with who, and what shoes she was wearing. I can’t really tell you, because I don’t know. If I did, that’d be weird. It’s weird to think about what she’s doing now when we haven’t really seen each other. I mean, she hasn’t seen me. I see her on television a lot. And my sister also sent me a picture of her in that magazine cover she was in last month, just for kicks. “Look at her, Tom! Can you believe it? Can you believe that you went to Homecoming with her all those years ago? Must be kicking yourself now!”

I didn’t go to Homecoming with her, just to be clear. We were friends. But we did dance. The song playing was some old slow song from the 80’s, I forget most of the words, but it had a good beat.  I remember one line; it went something like “you’re wonderin’ if I’m okay”. She was dancing with her girl friends, and gave this little wave for me to come over.  She complimented my suit. Made a little joke about how I needed to stop growing taller if I wanted to fit through the doorway. She asked if I wanted to dance, so we did. There probably wasn’t much to it to her, but it meant a lot to me. Her kindness. Her effortless authenticity.

You probably won’t post this because I don’t think you care much about what she did 5 years ago. But I wanted to let you know, so you knew what kind of person she was to me. You don’t know Lily in the way that I do, in the same way that I know Lily, but not in the way that you do.

I hope she doesn’t mind.

Submission #2: Genevieve

The last time I saw Lily Wilkes at Giovanni’s in NY today (Apr. 3)!! It was 12:30pm, and she was with another girl, I think it was her stylist or something?? Maybe it was her manager. She looked older than Lily, but she had these really big black sunglasses on, so I couldn’t really know for sure. I was sitting at the table across from her with my friend, and we could not stop staring at her because it’s Lily Wilkes, come on!!

She was wearing this super stylish outfit and the CUTEST boots ever, oh my gosh. I think it’s from her new Burberry partnership but I’ll have to fact-check that. (links below!)  She ordered spaghetti carbonara and a Caesar salad on the side. I think it’s so amazing that she still eats what she wants to eat, even when she’s a famous actress (#bodypositivity)!! Her manager didn’t order anything, which was sort of awkward, especially when she was talking to Lily and she was obviously just trying to eat, haha.

Anyway, the thing is, the conversation looked pretty heated. There wasn’t any yelling or anything, but like, Lily looked pretty annoyed and her manager/stylist (?) kept on pointing at something on her phone repeatedly. I didn’t get a good look at it, but I’m pretty sure it was something to do with her recent Insta post..’cause that was kinda shady! You know the one I’m talking about. But the thing is, it’s not even her fault! My friend and I were reading it as she was sitting two meters away from us, and it was so surreal. My friend said that she would do the exact same thing if her boyfriend cheated on her. I mean, he had guts to cheat on her with that model in a public place! I think maybe that’s why she looked less lively than usual..it was only two weeks ago.

You know, now that I think about it, she did look kind of depressed. She should be having lunch with a friend instead of getting chewed out by her manager. You know what they say, it’s lonely at the top. But anyway, miserable or not, Lily looked bomb!! You can see in the picture I attached, she also had this super cute purse from Valentino. Honestly, who can be sad when they look that good? I know I wouldn’t be!

I really wanted a picture with her, but I was considerate, and respectfully waited until after their meal, because no one likes getting hounded with cameras while they eat, right? Her manager sort of gave us the stink eye when we asked, ugh. I mean, no offense, but Lily’s really famous, so of course people are gonna recognize her in public and ask her for pictures. She was super sweet (of course!) and took a picture with me and my friend when we approached her. She even said that my dress was cute! Ah! Bottom line: Lily’s a literal angel.

Submission #3: Anon

The last time I saw Lily Wilkes was at the Hummingbird premiere yesterday in LA (Apr. 24th). I was assigned to cover the event as a reporter (for a magazine I will not disclose here, but I will say that it is a mainstream US entertainment and lifestyle mag). It was my job to cover what she was wearing, and conduct a small interview. Standard stuff. I heard great things about Lily, and I was looking forward to it. Well, jokes on me, I guess. I know this quaint blog as well as a bunch of others practically idolize her like she’s royalty, so I’ll let you guys down gently: Lily Wilkes is not as perfect as you like to think she is!

First of all, before you fangirls try to trace my URL and send me mindless hate, this was MY EXPERIENCE (!!!!!). What I’m about to type is what happened, so don’t go on about how I’m telling lies or am purposely trying to ruin her rep. Here’s how it went down.

Once she got on the red carpet, the press took turns interviewing her. I was around the end of the line, maybe the 14th interviewer or whatever. So, she should be warmed up by now. Once it was my turn, I began by asking her who she was wearing, and all that stuff. This is the transcription:

“Dress: Alexander McQueen. Purse is Vuitton. Shoes..ah..honestly, not sure. We ended up changing them last minute.” Okay, no offense, but by not knowing what’s on her own two feet, that makes everyone’s jobs so much harder. Her ignorance is not only embarrassing, but it’s inconsiderate. We have to either reverse-engineer it, or find her stylist—-all time-costly methods that will deter me from submitting/releasing my article first. Regardless of this total carelessness, I carried on to my interview. I asked her what her favorite part of filming was. She gave good enough answers, ones that I could actually print. But then I asked her who she came to the premiere with; if she came with someone new. Again, STANDARD. She gave me this big sassy response:

“Oh, here we go.” She laughed after, like it was funny or something.

“Well?” I asked. “I’m not—no. I didn’t come with anyone ‘new’. I brought my family.” Her voice was the definition of curt.

She was acting like it was such an invasion of privacy, like I just insulted her or something. I decided to steer away from it anyway; she looked like she was about to rip my throat out if I continued. I ended it after one more question about the shoot (which she gave a vague and uninteresting answer to, again.). Once it was done, she gave me such a passive aggressive look before turning away and walking in the other direction.

You’d think Lily would be kinder and more understanding towards press, because she’s been in the business for a few years already. Guess not.
