Update!

Hootowls! So sorry for the lack of posting! I just now checked this blog and found out nobody had covered anything since my announcement about Hootowl Prom. Here's what's happened lately:

The TMS previews were released onto iTunes August 8th. It seems the majority of Hootowls love TMS, even though it had a controversial summer. Some Hootowls are refraining from hearing one note of TMS until it's release this Tuesday.

Speaking of controversy, some drama is rising over the track Bombshell Blonde because of it's...I guess you could call it sensuality. 

Even more controversial than anything, the entire album leaked! (Minus Japan's bonus track, Top of the World.) I don't have any information on how it was leaked, or by whose hand. (If anyone knows, feel free to drop me an ask!)

The Q&As have continued, one with special guest Matt Thiessen of Relient K!

Adam has moved owlcityblog.com and moderngardening to his newest creation, ayoungblog.com. (Worry not, the old owlcityblog entries were transferred as well.)

Adam has begun reblogging and retweeting the brilliant and creative artistic works of his fans. (Those tagged with "owlsome" of course.)

Adam announced that he will be making some TV appearances! He's set to shine on America's Got Talent on 8/22, The Today Show on 8/23, Arthur Ashe's Kids Day on 8/26, Jay Leno on 8/28, and Conan on 8/29.

The Midsummer Station

Adam announced earlier today the new world tour for his upcoming album: The Midsummer Station. This Fall he is starting off in Japan and moving his way towards London. He will then sail the seas over to the US and check in at Boston and make his way over to Seattle. From there he will visit the romantic city of Paris, as well as the rest of the UK, and finish it off in Australia. If you haven't had the chance to see Adam live yet, this tour will more than likely give you an option to.

Few tickets are available as of now, but in just a few days get ready. A special presale for all North American dates will be available on July 11th at noon local time (you will need a special code). Tickets will go public on July 13th at noon as well. If you need to scope out your location and dates, you can check it all out at: http://www.owlcitymusic.com/events

If you want to get a head start The Midsummer Station is now available for presale on iTunes and his merch site. The album will be coming out August 21st in the US, and September 17th in the UK. 

Finally, to finish off this incredible announcement, Adam has set up a contest for all Hootowls to enter in. Preorder any packages on the Owl City Official Online Store to get a chance at winning tickets, signed goodies by Adam Young, and other sneaky prizes! Winners will be announced each week for 5 weeks. Contest entries end on August 7th.

"Owl City is a home to many. Hootowls roam the quirky land and are known for chasing giant dreams to impossible places. Adam Young, the foundation of the Hootowl fandom started his artistic career in the basement of his parents home in a rather small town. He spent his star filled nights listening to the sounds of his voice blending with instrumentals. He created project after project in hopes that maybe someone will listen. Adam followed his creative soul to stumble upon a dream he never knew was achievable. This is enough to be considered a role model, but he is more than that, he is inspiration.

There are stories all over the world in how Adam Young has changed peoples lives. His lyrics, writings, rhythms, and persona is the picture of hope. He shows that even on the most dull of days, there is beauty in the world. All the loneliness can be cured by spending a night among the stars. Day dreams and innovation is encouraged. Following your dream, as cliche and far away as it may seem, is possible. Adam has never given up, and continues to chase his goals down the never ending trail. A trail consisted of small owls with rainbow eyes, strawberry mountains, stacks of pizzas, rocket ships, and trees that dance. If Adam can bring his vivid imagination to life, it is possible for everyone else to as well.

Without knowing it, Adam has given each Hootowl courage to go after their dream. His songs that consist of whimsical metaphors touch hearts. Everyone needs someone to look up to, and he is one of few that are what we all need at times. Someone who will chase their goal and still be grateful every step of the way. A positive role model.

The one thing Adam continually teaches is to keep that roller coaster imagination running at all times, because after all reality is a lovely place, but we wouldn’t want to live there."

So I'm going to assume that most of you have heard 'We Are Young' or 'Some Nights' at some point in time, whether it was on the radio or on a TV show or at a friends house; they're both pretty popular songs right now.  And they're both by Fun..

I think a lot of Hootowls would enjoy the unique sound that Fun. produces. It really is unlike any other musician out there. Hootowls like different, and Fun. definitely falls into that category.

(WARNING: A few songs DO have the occasional curse. I just want you to be aware of that, if you are completely against cussing in music).

Hootowls!

I know a lot of you miss Foreverahootowl, our beloved Tinychat that was prematurely deleted. I also know that many of you want that same feeling of unison like you did in FAHO again, so:

Basically, if you guys would like another Tinychat, everyone is more than welcome to use this one that I made several months ago as a backup for FAHO. I hope everyone likes it and decides to use it as the official TC. Check it out!

Good Time?

As many of us know, Tuesday night yet another new song was leaked.  Good Time hit the internet around 10 pm central, making waves in the fandom.

Of course there was the initial deciding whether or not to listen, as it is with every leaked song.  Yet eventually it began, and the Hootowls went berserk.

Most were unsure of what to think of it at first.  There were many responses such as, "I need to listen again," and "What just happened."  Some loved it, claiming it was a 'catchy tune' that they could dance to.  Others disliked it, deciding Adam had gone completely 'mainstream pop'.  But the true shocker wasn't in the reactions from the fandom.  It was in the response of the rest of the world.

For once you could look up an article about new music by Adam... And actually see praise from the general public.

This in itself could be enough to please the Hootowls.  Adam's success.  Good Time has the chance to be the most overplayed song of the summer.  Top of the charts.  Of course that comes with being mainstream, which many Hootowls can't stand the idea of.  But as Adam's last Tumblr post said, he's trying something new.  Something that he's beyond excited for.

"All I know is that I’ve never been more truly, genuinely excited in my life about releasing new music than I am at this present moment."

This could potentially take him to the next level, but it could also bring him down.  The only battle is whether or not Hootowls are willing to put up with the intense change in style in order to get there.  We'll have to wait and see.

This just in; The official Midsummer Station release date has been pushed back to August 21st, rather than the initial August 14th. Apparently it is due to an 'exciting development'.  The UK release date is still September the 17th.

Well, they have definitely got the Hootowls wondering.

The Music Corner

Well hey! I'm going to start doing a weekly article about musicians that I think all Hootowls would like.  Some will be more well known, some will be less well known.  It all depends.  I'm just here to spread their awesome sounds.  So here's your first edition of Bri's Music Corner.  Hope it's decent.

Sailship is an indie/electronica outfit fronted by Mark Swickley of Saint Paul, Minnesota.  His music is VERY similar to the older Owl City music (Of June era) and Mark's vocals and lyrics are wonderful.  My personal favorite song is Eighteen Forever, on the album The Giant Leaps.  It can be heard on his MySpace page, or on YouTube.

I recommend Sailship to ALL Hootowls, especially those going through a rough time because of Adam's style changes.  In addition to similar music, Mark and Adam have met on multiple occasions and you may recall twitter conversations between the two in the past, as well.  Give him a listen!

"Yesterday's Invasion"

As most of you found out the hard way, there was a problem on the Adam Young tag yesterday. Users Adampajamas and Adamsnightwear were posting pornographic images of women repeatedly, and posing as Adam. Nobody knows who these two are, or if they're the same person. This made the fandom very upset and flustered, and everyone was worrying about Adam possibly seeing these images. We suggest everyone who hasn't already done so to go here and block Adampajamas and Adamsnightwear. To everyone who refused to check it until the images stopped being posted, I checked the tag today and didn't see anything else. Keep on the lookout.

Happy Birthday!

July is fast approaching, and as many of you know there is one extremely important day that comes in the first week of July.  This is the point where a normal person would raise an eyebrow, cock their head, and say with a slight question in their tone: The Fourth of July?  But we're hootowls, and we know better.  It is the following day that rings bells in our minds.  The fifth day in July.  The day the man behind it all was born.  Adam Young's 26th birthday.

Per tradition, Adam gets a birthday video every year.  Last year submissions were over the roof, and there were more than a few upset people.  This year, everything changes.  If you would like to be a part of this yearly tradition, stay tuned with me, Briele.  I'll be announcing more details in a few days. (details)

Another tradition is trending.  In the past, hootowls have tried (and never quite succeeded) in trending #HappyBirthdayAdamYoung on July 5th on twitter.  This year could be the charm.  So keep paying attention, and don't forget to support the attempt.

We owe a lot to Mr. Young, so what is a better time to celebrate his existence than his birthday?  Keep hooting, and mark your calenders.  Lets make this year one that he'll never forget.

Announcement!

Attention fellow Hootowls who love to write!

We're looking for a third admin to help us run The Hoot! Briele and I don't always have time to write articles over everything like we should, especially with all of these happenings leading up to the release of The Midsummer Station. A darn good thing about writing for The Hoot is that there are no deadlines, and no guidelines (except maybe don't use a million F-bombs.) It's basically; when something happens in the fandom, write about it. If you're interested, just send an ask saying so! Also, if anyone has questions, hit up ye olde as box as well.
