hi guys, sorry for dying lmao. anyways... do you guys want some ninjago ethnic and cultural headcanons??? (theyre almost all east/south/southeast asian btw // srry if u wanted more central/western asian rep.. caucasus dont count theyre too european /hj)
Arin: y'know the fact that there's like a ton of different tribes in papua new guinea? yeah, maybe one of those but i don't wanna be disrespectful so i'll do more research first before fully commiting. other thoughts are timorese or other indigenous groups from/near eastern indonesia.
Sora: look at those cat ears and try to tell me that she is NOT japanese. just- cmon man. plus, imperium is like a futuristic imperial japan or a futuristic version of that time the tokugawa family was in charge and locked down the country.
Lloyd (as well as the entire FSM bloodline): either tibetian or bhutanese. FSM just gives some budhist vibes so yeah. this isnt going to be about religion but religion does kind of affect ethnicity and culture so it does have a very minor role in making these headcanons. nepali works too but nepal is kinda nore hindu so yeah..
Kai and Nya: indomalay. mostly the indo part.. like- cmon, fire and water, indonesia is an archipelago with a shit ton of volcanoes (philippines too but we'll get there, sandali lang muna ;) ) i cant get into specifics cuz im not too well-researched but yeah. also, vibes đź‘Ś
Zane: siberian or he's from one of the islands extremely north of japan that japan and russia keep on disputing over. purely because of geography and ✨vibes✨
Cole: mixed black latino-filipino. as a filipino myself i wanted to make someone filipino =). since a lotta people were making cole black, i thought that i might as well make him mixed <3. plus, the philippines is also a former spanish colony so it just makes sense. if you want a more specific country, either colombia or the dominican republic are cool. not very well-researched on the different latin american countries so if anyone wants to tell me the most appropriate country for cole pls let me know 🥰.
Jay: umm, i sorta have a dillema over this. im thinking either korean or he's from somewhere in the gobi desert like mongolia or inner mongolia (its a province in china btw). korean bc the entertainment and beauty industry as well as the student and work culture kinda fit him. but somewhere in the gobi desert is nice bc the desert is where he grew up. maybe he's korean but grew up in a mongolian-chinese environment but yeah, im not too sure about him 🤷‍♀️. im leaning more towards korean but yeah, not sure.
Wyldfyre: i um... this was very hard. first of all, she's not gonna be asian since i couldn't find a good enough area in asia and well, im pretty sure she's not from ninjago so she doesn't have to be asian. so, i got maori in northern new zealand but 1. i know nothing about the maori people 2. it might be disrespectful to portray them like that. and 3. er, the geography is kinda off. where she grew up looks very desert-y and volcanic. i think a more suitable reigon is in south america towards the coast like peru or chile but um i know even less about the those reigions than new zealand. plus, it has the same first 2 problems i listed earlier. (yes im ignoring her clothes for these headcanons srry guys my brain loves topography too much) TLDR; idk man shes too hard to sort out lol. it adds more to her mystery and chaotic energy anyway so yeah.
if u know more abt latin american countries, pls give me pointers so that i can have more accurate headcanons for cole and wyldfyre. i can do my own research for kai, nya, and arin but any help with that is also very much appreciated 👍. peace ✌️
(this is what happens when u become a geography nerd... im not at my full potential yet bc my latin american knowledge and all of africa knowledge sucks. but yeah. bye fr this timeee)
#lil' talk dont mind this#ninjago#lego ninjago#ninjago arin#ninjago sora#ninjago lloyd#lloyd garmadon#ninjago zane#zane julien#ninjago kai#ninjago nya#nya jiang#kai jiang#ninjago cole#cole brookstone#ninjago jay#jay walker#ninjago wyldfyre#ninjago dragons rising#dragons rising#thats a lotta tags#just realized all the last names dont fit lmao#or even just the given names in general#wooboy its 2 am better say goodnigt#yeah not gonna come back for a bit but i do leave some content before going back to the coffin#might do other characters but until then#seeya

Created By Michael Dante DiMartino, Brian Konietzko
Executive Producers Michael Dante DiMartino, Brian Konietzko, Aaron Ehasz
Written By Jymn Magon, Bruce Talkington & Mark Zaslove
Animated By JM Animation, DR Movie, Moi Animation
Production company Nickelodeon Animation Studios
Distributor MTV Networks
Original release February 21, 2005 – July 19, 2008 Â
1) Technique section:
Konietzko claims that the idea for the series first came to him in the beginning of 2001 as he was imagining a young version of an old sketch of a middle-aged, balding man. While viewing a programme on explorers stranded at the South Pole, DiMartino, who was present, saw the sketch of the man herding bison in the sky.
"There's an air person along with these water people imprisoned in a frozen wasteland... and maybe some fire people are crushing down on them," Konietzko said when describing their early conception of the idea. The idea was successfully submitted by the co-creators to Nickelodeon vice-president and executive producer Eric Coleman two weeks later.
The series is renowned for drawing heavily on East Asian mythology and art to create its fictional setting. To help choose its surroundings and visual direction, its authors enlisted the aid of calligrapher Siu-Leung Lee and cultural advisers Edwin Zane. Its character designs draw inspiration from Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, Yoga, and Chinese art and history. Early on in the series' production, Jeremy Zuckerman and Benjamin Wynn collaborated to create the music and sound design; later, they divided the work, with Wynn handling the sound design and Zuckerman the music.
The "bender" characters' movements are inspired by Chinese martial arts, and Sifu Kisu of the Harmonious Fist Chinese Athletic Association served as a consultant for the design of these motions. Each fighting technique is exclusive to the "benders" who employ it or the characters who are connected with it. For instance, those who practise "waterbending" employ T'ai chi-inspired motions that are centred on alignment, body structure, breath, and visualisation. Hung Gar, chosen for its firmly planted postures and potent strikes as a depiction of the sturdiness of earth, served as the model for "earthbending" practitioners. To symbolise "firebending," the Northern Shaolin, which makes use of powerful arm and leg movements, was chosen. Ba Gua was utilised for "airbending," which involves dynamic circular movements and swift direction shifts. The earthbender Toph, who transforms into a praying mantis due to her eyesight, is seen practising the Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis technique. The portrayal of these martial art bending manoeuvres was influenced by Asian film.
This animation was done digitally using adobe software for the most part. It was the same technique as traditional animation but was done in a computer instead. From storyboarding (pre-production), to animating (production) and visual effect (post-production), they were all done mostly using computer software.
2) Representation section:
In the Asian-inspired world of Avatar, certain people have developed "bending" techniques that allow them to telekinetically control one of the four elements—earth, fire, water, or air. These techniques were influenced by Chinese martial arts. The "Avatar," the sole person capable of controlling all four elements, acts as a link between the material world and the spirit realm and is in charge of preserving peace among the four countries of the earth. The series uses images mostly from Chinese culture, with some East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, New World, Siberian, and Arctic influences. It is presented in a style that merges anime with American cartoons.
The twelve-year-old Aang, the current Avatar and the lone survivor of his nation, the Air Nomads, and his friends Katara, Sokka, and later Toph, set off on a mission to put a stop to the Fire Nation's conflict with the rest of the world. Along with his sage uncle Iroh, Zuko, the exiled prince of the Fire Nation, subsequently recruited his ambitious sister Azula to help him capture Aang in an effort to regain his lost glory.
3) Reception section:
For its characters, cultural allusions, art design, soundtrack, humour, and themes, Avatar: The Last Airbender was ratings hit and won praise from both viewers and reviewers. These topics include those in youth entertainment that are rarely discussed, such as war, genocide, imperialism, tyranny, indoctrination, and free will. Five Annie Awards, a Genesis Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Kids' Choice Award, and a Peabody Award were all won by the show. Many critics consider the programme to be among the best animated television programmes of all time.
In addition to a live-action picture and a planned live-action remake series made for Netflix, the expanded Avatar franchise also consists of continuing comics, prequel novels, animated sequels, and live-action films. Â The entire series was made available to stream on Netflix in the US and Canada in May 2020, on Paramount+ in June 2020, and on Amazon Prime Video in January 2021. The Blu-ray release of the entire series took place in June 2018 to commemorate ten years since the series' finale.
I personally have not finished watching the series. I only started watching because it was such a popular show and I can get why. The whole production itself was very beautiful. I love how they used painting for their background, it reminds me of Ghibli animation. Story wise, it was well planned and detailed, which made the whole world building even more fascinating.

“Baihu is a cross between a Bengal and a Siberian,” Trish said, slowing as they crossed in front of the new enclosure. “White tigers are prized among collectors, but they’re not at all rare like people think. Most are inbred for the recessive white gene and have certain health issues. If you look closely, you’ll see that Baihu is cross-eyed. And I must warn you, he’s quite aggressive, so when you pass by you may want to give him a wide berth.”
Ty muttered under his breath as they walked between Baihu’s fence and the fence of a small lynx named Zelda. Zane watched him closely, so focused on Ty that he was only dimly aware of a movement to his side. By the time he was able to turn his head, all he could see was the massive white tiger rushing at them, teeth bared. It leaped, hitting the fence with a growl. The chain rattled. Teeth gnashed at the chain link and claws hooked through it as the weight of the tiger’s massive body swung the fence back and forth.
Annie screamed and ducked behind Mark, grabbing him as he flinched away. Zane stumbled back, throwing his arms up and ducking. The urge to flee was instinctive, even knowing the fence would protect them.
Tish was laughing, obviously accustomed to seeing that reaction when Baihu charged.
Zane sought out Ty as he tried to force his heart to settle. Ty stood several yards away, staring at the tiger as the animal clung to the chain link fence. He was covered in dirt like he had rolled away from the attack, and he had his gun in his hand.
“Ty,” Zane yelled, “don’t shoot the tiger!”
“He started it.” Ty continued to stare at the tiger, and the tiger at him.
Zane pointed at him in warning. If Ty went bonkers in this place, Zane was leaving him here.
Ty glared at him, but then handed over his weapon without Zane having to ask for it. Zane shoved it into his pocket.
“Way to leave the rest of us hanging, there, Grady,” Mark said as they moved on.
“Mark,” Annie hissed.
Ty grunted. “Guy with a gun, I’m your man. Big white tiger with teeth, it’s every steak for himself.”
