like, to me... well. there’s this thing in movies that i’ve discussed with my mother, actually (and i’m sure thousands of other people have noticed it, too; there is nothing new under the sun, etc). she calls it “apocalypse fathers.” in particular, two examples come to mind, just off the top of my head: harry stamper from armageddon and jason lerner from deep impact.
1998: big year for asteroid movies. and daddy issues.
the basic thesis of these men, and my mom’s assessment of them, is that these are the quintessential action hero-turned-father roles. they’re propaganda. they’re a very specific kind of male power fantasy. they may have failed their children (their daughters; it’s almost always daughters, because liv tyler’s role in armageddon simply wouldn’t have worked if she switched roles with ben affleck; if she had been up there on the rock screaming and beating her fists on the capsule while he had his quiet, tearful “daddy, don’t go!” from back home in houston. daughters are more complicated than sons, which makes them less complicated. and you’re allowed to love your daughter without posturing) in life, but when the chips are down, they get their big, final moment to put it all right, and they don’t even hesitate. of course they’ll die for (or with, in the case of jason lerner) their kids. they’ve loved them all along! and it doesn’t matter that they completely dropped the ball at providing emotional support or guidance when they were alive, it doesn’t matter that they effectively ruined their kids’ lives for selfish reasons or on account of insurmountable personal failures, because they’re Saint Padre now. in one final moment, they are redeemed. and every father wants to touch that kind of redemption, so it always hits.
i watched armageddom with my mother, and she told me that she never once doubted her dad would do what harry stamper did. but she hasn’t talked to him in years. he was never graced with extenuating circumstances to forgive his many parental failures. and i wonder, how true is that for many estranged fathers out there? how many sad old men are going to die unmourned, because they were saving all their best stuff for the end times?

Are the Cullen's and Denali's even close? They sort of remind me of that movie character who has no friends at school but gets along with one (1) person and so consider them their best friend. Also, it's weird that both covens have characters who are basically the same personality trope just a slightly different version. Like Esme and Carmen, Eleazar and Carlisle, even Kate and Rosalie to an extent. And they've known the Cullen's for how many decades? And they were totally cool with letting them die because they weren't allowed to kill the wolves who were protecting Edward's (unmated, looking for love for the past century Edward!) human girlfriend/ proclaimed mate?
No, they’re not.
In Eclipse they had no problem leaving the Cullens to their miserable deaths. Carlisle wouldn’t let them butcher the shapeshifters (their motive for wanting this: the shapeshifters protected Edward’s mate from an attacking vampire. According to the Denali, this makes the vampire the victim, and he should be avenged), and Tanya said “then perish.”
Let it be known, before anyone tries to excuse this, that it wasn’t like Carlisle was asking them to die for him:
“We’re going to need help,” Jasper said. “Do you think Tanya’s family would be willing . . . ? Another five mature vampires would make an enormous difference. And then Kate and Eleazar would be especially advantageous on our side. It would be almost easy, with their aid.” (Eclipse, page 175)
They had two options, nothing to lose either way, and their choice was to leave the Cullens to their sorry fate.
(One can speculate that they in fact had something to gain. The Cullens made it clear they would stand in the way of Irina’s vengeance. Step aside. Let Victoria do her thing. Now there’s nothing in the way of Irina’s vengeance.
Not saying this is why the Denali didn’t help out, I don’t. I think their motivation was a simple, black-and-white “you don’t scratch our back, we won’t scratch yours.”
But assuming the Cullens did perish, would Irina have left the shapeshifters in peace?)
By comparison, Carlisle’s other friends (some of which he hadn’t seen in generations) came in Breaking Dawn to most likely die by his side. Some had selfish motivations, yes, but Siobhan’s coven, the Amazonian women, Alistair (the guy left his hermit cave for Carlisle, that’s huge. I can’t fault the guy for not wanting to be part of a suicide mission(and he still did more than the Denali in Eclipse!)), Benjamin and Tia, Garrett and Peter and Charlotte, all came because of their friendship to Carlisle/the Cullens. To them, that was enough.
I highlight this because these people appear to value their relation to the Cullens a lot higher than the Denali do. Some of Carlisle’s friends have his back, others don’t. As of Eclipse, the Denali have made it clear they’re in the latter category.
And yes, the Denali were there for the Breaking Dawn confrontation, but they were already involved. Their sister had gone to the Volturi and was the reason for all this, and they were worried crazy about her. This wasn’t situation they could ignore up in those Alaskan mountains. So, yes, they were there, but after Eclipse I just don’t buy that they would have been there otherwise.
Then we have other interesting facts, such as the scene where Eleazar realizes Bella has a gift. Eleazar is surprised to learn Edward can’t read Bella’s thoughts: this is news to him.
The guy was at their fucking wedding.
I’ll give that Eleazar and Carmen do seem to be afterthoughts in that coven. There’s the Denali sisters- and oh, that’s right, there’s those two as well.
But for no one to have brought up around Eleazar the fact that Edward can’t read Bella’s mind leaves us with two possible explanations. One, the Cullens and the Denali talk all the time, but they never brought up one of the major things about Edward’s new mate. It never came up. Eleazar is the resident gift expert, yet it simply never came up.
Two, the Cullens and the Denali don’t talk.
At some undated point the covens tried living together. I’m guessing in the 30′s or 40′s, since they met in the 30′s. However, they had to leave because there were too many of them, and they called attention to themselves.
Well, I think this was another case of someone in Eleazar’s life telling him their grandma died, so they can’t go to his party.
Which is to say that I think the size of the coven was the excuse, and the real reason was that the Denali are small dosage friends.
We have Eleazar, who’s insensitive, arrogant, and not very bright (meta for that last claim is in my draft, guys), the Denali sisters who quit the people diet for the worst reason, and the fact that they’re people who would let their so-called family die over the pettiest, most vile motivation I can imagine.
Edward pontificates about how the sisters are sad orphans who cling to the Cullens because they need family, and you know what, I’m sure he’s right. Because those are easy things to want and easy claims to make, but while the sisters may think the Cullens are well and good for playing house with every now and then, that’s apparently not the same as caring for them.
Carlisle also does some pontificating, in the form of “vegetarianism makes emotional ties deeper!” which, sure, Carlisle. There’s a river in Egypt you might want to look into. However, I think that very vegetarianism is what makes these two covens who don’t really get along, and at least on one side don’t care that much about the other, stick it out. It’s a big world out there, not a lot of vegetarian vampires in it, and that means these weird kids have to stick together. Your friendless kid in school analogy is spot on.
So, in that sense, yes vegetarianism deepens emotional ties because without it, these covens would have nothing tying them together.
As it is, they have a comfortable relationship in canon where the other coven represents a refuge, a change of scenery, when it’s needed for whatever reason. The Cullens during a dark period in New Moon, Edward when he had to flee Forks. However, I think the main reason why they’ve become this to one another is because of their similar lifestyles.
And, more damningly, we see countless examples of other vampires that appear much closer to members of the Cullen coven. (Carlisle and Aro, Carlisle and Siobhan, Carlisle and Zafrina (from what I recall of those two), Carlisle and Garrett, Jasper and Peter/Charlotte) These people are actual friends, who get along because of personality reasons, not simply because they were the kids in school who did the Naruto run through hallways and now they have to lunch at the dweeb table.
Edit: Turns out it wasn’t Carlisle who did that “vegetarianism makes emotional ties deeper!” pontificating at all. My due apologies to this fictional character who was in no way affected by my mistake.

“Yeah, Appa hates going underground,” Aang said. “And we need to do whatever makes Appa most comfortable.” To confirm this, Appa let out a small growl. (Y/N) smiled and hugged Appa’s nose, giving him a light kiss on his fur. She might fear a lot of things about her new life, but Appa was not one of them. They left the nomads at the lake, only to return a few moments later covered in ash from the Fire Nation catapults that had been hurled at them.
(Y/N) was so scared. She hated being scared. Back home, she had felt like one of the bravest girls in her tribe. She was willing to defy authority. She wasn’t afraid of bullies like others were. For as long as she could remember, she had tried to approach her life without any sort of fear. But here, out in the world, she felt so small. It was difficult for her, adapting to the nomadic lifestyle of the Avatar and his friends. Each new place they encountered had different cultures and different people that (Y/N) feared of offending. Even not being referred to as ‘Princess’ caught her off guard. The people looked different, the food tasted different, and sometimes she had trouble taking it all in. Plus it was so unbearably hot, she wasn’t sure how Katara and Sokka had ever gotten used to it.
She chastised herself in her mind, for standing at the sidelines of any interaction their group had. The others were more talkative and far more open than she ever dreamt of being. So she stayed silent and watched, inhaling each piece of her new life bit by bit until sometimes it felt like she was suffocating. (Y/N) new that the whole point of her leaving the tribe was so that she could live the life she had always wanted, but she was doing a horrible job at it. She looked over her friends’ easy-going mannerisms with slight jealousy.
Her friends, could she even call them that? She considered them to be her friends, but (Y/N) had no basis of friendship to go off of. (Y/N) had only one true friend in her entire life, and now she was gone. Everything had always been so easy with Yue, and now (Y/N) found herself replaying every single word she had said that day over and over again and reliving the embarrassment.
She watched as Momo approached the bank of the river she sat along. He sniffed the air once and bent down, lapping up the cool water. (Y/N) frowned. “I wish I had been born a flying lemur monkey,” She muttered. Momo stared at her in confusion.
Their group had reached an Earth Kingdom outpost a few days ago in hopes that they would be escorted to Omashu. The results of their visit were near-disastrous, and they decided to travel to the city by themselves. They had been walking for a few days now and rested at a small lake. Sokka drifted along in the middle while Katara and Aang practiced their waterbending. (Y/N) had had her waterbending lesson with Katara earlier that morning.
“Why don’t you hop in?” Sokka asked as he floated past. “The water’s fine.”
“I can’t swim,” (Y/N) said simply. Sokka raised an eyebrow at her.
“You’re a waterbending, what do you mean you can’t swim?”
“I don’t have to swim in order to bend water,” She said defensively, her cheeks flushing red. “Besides, we have to get going soon.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He turned to Katara and Aang. “Will you guys be done soon? We have a lot of ground to cover if we wanna make it to Omashu today!”
“Like you’re ready right now?” Katara called back. She continued teaching Aang his waterbending. Sokka grumbled to himself, something about ‘any minute now.’
(Y/N) wasn’t quite sure how to feel about Sokka. Her eyes were trained on him now, watching his every move as he moved through the river. She hadn’t been the nicest to him when he arrived to her tribe. She only tolerated his presence because of Yue. Then he had done her an enormous favor and provided her with the escape that she had always wanted. Since then, their exchanges had been few and far in between. She spent most of her time talking to Katara and Aang. Sometimes Momo and Appa, but never really Sokka. She rested her chin at the tops of her knees. Maybe it’s too painful, she thought to herself. Because every time she looked at Sokka, she thought of Yue.
Her thoughts were interrupted as a group of singing people wandered into where they were relaxing. “Hey, river people!” The man holding the guitar said. The four kids stared at him quizzically.
“We’re not river people,” (Y/N) said slowly. The man blinked at her.
“You’re not? Then what kind of people are you.”
“Just people,” Aang said with a shrug.
The man had introduced himself as Chong and he had a wife named Lily. They traveled with another man named Moku. Once the others dried off, the nomads, along with Katara, Aang, and (Y/N), all sat around Appa as they told stories of their travels. (Y/N) couldn’t help but be absolutely entranced by what they were saying. She had seen more in these last few weeks than she had in her entire lifetime, and it shocked her that there was still more out there to see. Lily strung them all flower crowns and placed them atop their heads. (Y/N’s) was made from lovely lilacs that grew around the lake.
The nomads informed the group of a pass through the mountains that would lead them directly to Omashu. “I think we’ll stick with flying,” Sokka interrupted. The almost parental look he gave urged the rest of his group to get up.
“Secret love cave, let’s go,” Sokka grumbled.
(Y/N) dusted herself off as they walked to the cave, her frown deep and her forehead creased with unhappiness. “I just washed this,” She huffed.
“Come on, princess, it’s not that bad,” Sokka said, and just as (Y/N) was about to snap back at him, she looked at his smile and realized he was joking. The anger left her face quickly.
“Not a princess,” She muttered. Sokka’s smile fell into sad one before he turned back to the nomads.
“So how far are we from this tunnel?”
“Actually,” said Chong, “It’s not just one tunnel. The lovers didn’t want anyone finding them, so they built a whole labyrinth!”
“A labyrinth?” Sokka and (Y/N) asked at the same time.
“Oh, I'm sure we'll figure it out,” Chong said with an air of nonchalance.
“All we need to do is trust in love...according to the curse,” Lily hummed. (Y/N) and Sokka stared at each other.
“Curse?”
“I didn’t sign up for a curse,” (Y/N) mumbled bitterly.
As they reached the entrance of the cave, they learned that whoever entered and did not trust in love would remain trapped within its walls forever. This shook (Y/N) deep to her core. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to trust in love like the two lovers wanted. The only love she knew was for her family and she was quite sure that that wasn’t the same.
Swiftly though, they realized that the Fire Nation was still tracking them. Reluctantly, (Y/N) entered the dark cave. Within minutes, the entrance behind them collapsed. She stared in horror as Appa pawed at the rocks.
“It’s okay Appa,” Katara reassured him, but her own voice did not seem so sure.
“It’s fine,” Sokka said, trying to be confident and take charge. “All we need is a plan.”
“The last time you had a plan, we almost died from fireballs,” (Y/N) noted. Sokka waved her off with a flick of his hand.
“That was at least thirty minutes ago. My slate is clean. Here, I’ll keep track of all the ways we go, so that way we can solve it like a maze. Chong, how long do those torches last?”
“Uh, about two hours each.”
“And we have five,” Lily said as she lit all of the torches. “So that makes ten hours! Sokka ran over to her and stomped out all of the flames.
“It doesn’t work like that if they’re all lit!”
(Y/N) sighed. “I’m gonna die in here.”
“No, no!” Aang said. “We’ve gotta remain positive!”
“Okay, I’m positive I’m gonna die in here.”
After ten dead ends, Sokka came to the conclusion that the tunnels were changing. This led to a massive panic within the group, that alerted their presence to a giant wolfbat. It swiped at their heads and Sokka tried to shoo it away with one of their torches, but the hot sparks landed on Appa. The poor animal roared, shaking the cave around them and causing rocks to fall, separating Katara and Aang from the rest of the group.
“Don’t worry!” Chong said to Sokka and (Y/N). “At least you guys have us!”
(Y/N) leaned over to Sokka and whispered, “Do you think I’m a good enough waterbender to kill them?” Sokka stifled a laugh, but shook his head.
“We’ve gotta think of a plan to get out of here.” (Y/N) sighed.
“I don’t--I don’t know. I’ve never been trapped in a cave before.”
“Oddly enough, me neither.”
“Really? With all your adventures I was sure you’d have at least some experience with this.”
“Yeah, well,” Sokka shrugged. “All the times a super dangerous cave was presented to me I turned it down, so I’m kinda lacking experience.” (Y/N) let herself smile at him. Sokka’s eyes darted from her to the nomads.
“We all need to think of a way to get out of here.” The nomads smiled their big, goofy smiles.
“I think the best thing to do right now,” Lily said, “Is to play a song!” They all started strumming their instruments and singing a song about two fish traveling through the river.
Her hope was quickly dwindling, but (Y/N’s) brain was far too distracted trying to think of a solution to their current problem to notice. She paced around the dirt floor and stared at the curvature of the cave. Could they go up? Could she use waterbending to get them out of there? Could they use Appa as a battering bison?
She whirled around, turning to look at Sokka. “How did the two lovers find their way through the cave?”
“Earthbending, I’m assuming.”
“And love!” Chong added.
“And love,” Sokka deadpanned. (Y/N) shook her head.
“They had to have anticipated that more people would come through here. That there’d be a way for them to get out...”
“Love!” Lily said.
“If you guys say love one more time I’m going to stick these rocks in a very not-lovely place!” (Y/N) snapped. The nomads stared at her with wide eyes.
“She’s not very full of love,” Chong mumbled. (Y/N) crossed her arms and buried herself into Appa’s fur. As much as she hated to admit it, he was right. (Y/N) wasn’t very full of love, not anymore.
The cave began to shake again, but this time the sound of dozens of wolfbats surrounded them. They flew overhead of the group and (Y/N) ducked down to avoid them clawing at her. Sokka waved his arms frantically as they passed.
“Hey! Sokka saved us!” Chong cheered. (Y/N) opened her eyes and shook her head.
“No, they were running away from something.”
Just after she said it, two large badgermoles appeared from the shadows of the tunnel. (Y/N’s) mouth fell open as she stared at them. She had only heard stories about the badgermoles from back home. They were the original earthbenders and they were giant. They very nearly towered over Appa, who let out a low growl at their presence. The two moles sniffed the air, their noses pointed directly at Sokka. (Y/N) could practically hear him gulp as he stepped back.
She cringed as he stepped on Chong’s guitar, but the sound made the badgermoles stop approaching. “The music!” Sokka said, scrambling to pick up the guitar. He started strumming, rather horribly, and looked back at the nomads angrily. “A little help here!”
They began singing a song, which seemed to make the badgermoles happy. (Y/N) tried her best to keep up with the words, but her singing came out as incoherent mumbles. Slowly, she began to approach the one that stood closest to her. She put her hand on its rough fur and began stroking. “Do you think you could help us find a way out of here?”
Both moles sniffed the air once and lowered themselves to the ground. (Y/N) grinned at Sokka, who ran over to her and lifted her onto the badgermole’s back. She pulled him up and he sat behind her, his arms wrapping around her waist as he gripped onto the animal’s fur. She felt herself blush but held her head high as they began earthbending their group out of the tunnel.
“Nice work back there,” (Y/N) said to Sokka. “I didn’t know you were so into music.”
“I am a man of many talents,” Sokka said casually, and (Y/N) laughed. Perhaps this was the start of them being friends. It only took them being trapped in a cave together, but it was a start nonetheless. “By the way,” Sokka said. “I think you’re very full of love.”
(Y/N’s) face flushed furiously once more and she cleared her throat, staring straight ahead at the moving rocks. “Thanks.”

What do your elf eyes see? Runaan and Nyx
This is exactly the kind of distraction I needed today, so please feel free to get inordinately excited about this like I did.
First, a collection of fun but seemingly unrelated eye facts in TDP:
Runaan has mild heterochromia, with his left eye being just a little lighter in hue than his right.
Viren’s eyes are gray, until Aaravos puts bug spit on one of them and turns it a nice purple like his own astral-projection eyes.
Nyx has obvious heterochromia, with one blue eye and one brown.
And the oasis in the Midnight Desert sure is fun, pretty, and mysterious.
Eyes are cool, eyes are fun. They’re pretty, and there’s some cool subtext about seeing clearly, vision, etc. etc. going on too.
But I’m gonna talk about color today. Actual literal eye color. And what it means for Runaan, Nyx, and the defense of Xadia.
Here’s a smidge of background: @kotikala had an awesome hc that Nyx was actually guarding the oasis, that her endless nomadic lifestyle was really so someone was always nearby for some reason. I added the observation that the big weird swoops in the black sand looked not-random, and kind of like huge (warding?) runes one might draw with the tail of an ambler, which could be refreshed against windstorms on every circuit around the desert.
The oasis is clearly Moonshadow. The obelisks, the towers, and even the tents are bristling with Moonshadow motifs.
Maybe Nyx is there because Skywings like to be mobile and Moonshadows don’t. And also because shadows are hard to come by in a desert.
So what does the oasis have to do with eyes?
Let’s set the scene with some S3 developments.
Viren’s eyes used to match, until Aaravos performed some kind of spell and turned one of them a different color.
The thing is, when one of Viren’s eyes changed color, so did one of Aaravos’s.
he looks so adorkable right side up, omg
Aaravos’s top of pupils, right and left:
Aaravos’s bottom of pupils, right and left:
In the dungeon, too, because lighting is lighting and I don’t have a 3D turnaround for his astral form:
Aaravos’s top of pupils, right and left:
Aaravos’s bottom of pupils, right and left:
His right eye, presumably, has changed to match more closely with Viren’s right, as if he has given up some of his color to affect it.
*rubs hands gleefully* So let’s take a look at Nyx and Runaan’s eyes. If their left eyes have some kind of similar connection, the blue of her left eye should match pretty closely with the blue of his right eye. So, just a quick dropper test to get us started:
Bottom of Nyx’s left and Runaan’s right eyes:
Top of Nyx’s left and Runaan’s right eyes:
UMM!!
I... I can barely tell them apart, guys. And I can’t remember who’s is whose, so:
<Mythbuster> Remember kids, the difference between science and messing around is writing it down. </Mythbuster>
Runaan, upper iris, right eye (bg color is Nyx):
Nyx, upper iris, left eye (bg color is Runaan):
Runaan, lower iris, right eye (bg color is Nyx):
Nyx, lower iris, left eye (bg color is Runaan):
(They’re not perfectly identical--and pixels be pixels--but I don’t have a 3D turnaround headshot for Runaan to compare with Nyx’s, so I had to use a screenshot in the best lighting I could find. Even then, it’s nearly impossible for me to spot the difference.)
The design team could’ve picked any color for Nyx’s left eye if they only wanted her to be a cute Skywing with heterochromia. But they picked the colors of Runaan’s right eye. (btw I checked, and her right eye doesn’t match Ethari’s) And since we’ve seen Viren’s eye change color due to magic, and we can tell that Aaravos’s eyes don’t 100% match after the eye spell he did, I think this counts as a secret parallel in the show.
I think it means that Runaan can see through Nyx’s eye, at least sometimes. Probably with some extras that Aaravos just skipped over with Viren, like asking permission and being able to withdraw it. Consent is not Aaravos’s strong suit, but Runaan would want a willing ally for security’s sake--even if he has to work with a chaotic Skywing. (omg the Rayla parallels, omg the Callum parallels)
Why would Runaan want to do a spell like this? Security of the oasis. It’s a Moonshadow place, clearly very important since it’s guarded by the Wonderwall. And he’s the leader of the assassins. Security--protecting Xadia--is his whole job. Nyx could be some kind of ambling security camera for him.
Why would Nyx agree to something like this, though? This trope can be very iffy, and as we’ve seen with Viren, it’s easy to abuse it. Maybe their arrangement gives her almost complete autonomy in the desert with no one pestering her except some random bossy Moonshadow elf every full moon or something, and he’s not even there in person, he just knocks on her eye and asks to take a look around for a second, maybe to make sure the Wonderwall looks tip top and the tents are okay. (because Moonshadows like tents, apparently)
We don’t know anything about the oasis yet other than what it looks like, so maybe it doesn’t get much, or any, use, and Runaan’s connection to her is more of a Use In Case Of Emergency kind of thing and they’ve never even talked aside from when the spell was created. Either way, changing eye color via a watching spell might be a small price to pay for all the cool salvage she finds all over the desert while she’s “working.”
Additionally, Nyx’s staff has Moonshadow motifs in it. Moonshadow colors, Runaan’s actual shoulder markings, Moon rune points! I love headcanoning that Ethari made it for her--and then she used it to smack his arrow. What a chaos bird.
Rayla seems to recognize something about it, while Callum’s all “Something so strangely familiar.” Yeah, you think?
Alternately, there could be some angst in here. Just because Nyx has Runaan’s eye color and an Ethari Special in her hands doesn’t mean she really wants them. Maybe she, and maybe Runaan too, feel this is one of those “duty first” kinds of things. I can see Runaan making this part of his “my heart for Xadia” mentality, doing whatever it takes, but maybe this explains why Nyx is her particular brand of chaotic. Skywings like their independence, and living with the possibility of a broody Moonshadow borrowing your eye sometimes is likely less independence than Nyx would like if she had her druthers. If she didn’t enthusiastically sign up for the eye spell, she could act more rebellious and chaotic than she normally would--destroying lighthawks, stealing dragons, you know, the whole Hanna Solo bit.
If I had to guess, I’d go with some cooperative shenaniganry, like echoes of the Order of the Phoenix from 300 years ago. Standing against Aaravos put the elves all on the same side, so Runaan resigns himself to this extra duty pretty quickly, and Nyx finds a way to answer the question “But what’s in it for me?” pretty quickly.
As for how Runaan might use this, say, while he was in an extreme situation? Well, first of all, he wouldn’t if he was planning to die in Viren’s dungeon. If he called for help, he’d only be endangering more elves. Plus, his honor was a bit tattery at the moment, and he might’ve felt he didn’t deserve saving even if it were easy (don’t, don’t get me started).
And second, I’ve got no idea how their connection might function, except that it’s got to be different than Aaravos and Viren’s. Is it to do with her staff, maybe, and certain phases of the moon? That seems very Moonshadow.
Also, thirdly, I don’t know how much these two characters interact, so it’s possible Runaan “I have trust issues” of the Moonshadow Elves wouldn’t trust Nyx to carry a message for him to the nearest shady pawn broker, let alone Ethari. But I did think about it, ha. I’m really hoping now that we get to see some hints or use for this connection in future seasons, whenever we get to learn more about the oasis!
The only downside I’m getting from this wild detail and fun headcanoning is that I really enjoyed Nyx having natural heterochromia. But she’s still amazing, and her eyes are still brilliantly pretty, and I support her.
Anyway here’s Nyx giving Rayllum the bird.
I’m cackling at the thought that she gave it to Runaan at some point, too.

The Cape and The Cowl
A friend of mine posted a meme questioning who would win a fight between Doctor Doom and Batman. My gut reaction is to say it’s real bad for Bruce but, as i thought about it more and more, i kind of feel like its not so cut-and-dry. There is a lot of nuance that needs to be considered between the two characters rather than just a “smash the action figured together” scenario. Of course, there is the surface stuff like how would they interact generally? What would the catalyst be in order to incite said conflict? Why would Doom even see Bruce as a threat? If you think about it objectively, an all things are even, to Vic, Batman is just a crazy person losing his are on crime in a raggedy ass city. Victor von Doom is a the reagent of an entire country with a GDP that rivals some superpowers in the MCU. Like, the USA has diplomatic relations with a blip in Eastern Europe, because Doom has the military power to wreck he US in open aggression. Latveria will lose in a prolonged conflict, that’s just a question of resources, but that little country would absolutely inflict upon the US in a slow bleed. Imagine the War on Terror but with competent leadership and actual, discipline, military strategy. Why the f*ck would Doom care what the f*ck is going on out in Jersey? More than that. the similarities between the two characters is staggering.
We all know the origin of Batman. We’ve seen that sh*t how many times now? It’s like getting a new Spider-Man joint and having to watch Uncle Ben die all over again. It’s trite at this point but so essential to the character, we need a refresher every time Bats shows up onscreen. That trauma informs everything he is, as it would if you watched your parents gunned down in cold blood as a child, and then laid with their still warm corpses for however long until the police came. What a lot of people don’t know is the origin of Doctor Doom. Being a villain, Doom rarely gets his motivations explored outside of some megalomaniac Dr. No type f*ckery. However, Victor von Doom is a person. He started out life as a happy kid and learned to be Doctor Doom, just like Bruce learned to be Batman. Doom is actually a refugee. True, Doom was born an aristocrat, but Latveria was overthrown when he was still young so he was never able to be raised in that level of opulence. His mom was also murdered before he was ten years old. Just like Bruce, Doom experienced a horrific truth that would color his world perspective for the rest of his life. Doom would eventually find his way to the US as he was brilliant. Like, unheard of intelligent and it would be his exposure to the US lifestyle, after years of conflict and struggle, which would make him realize how easy life could be if someone just did what was necessary. And then Reed happened.
Reed Richards was, is, a fulcrum in Vic’s life. They have a relationship similar to Batman an Superman but the opposite. Whereas Batman values Clark’s perspective because it helps him keep perspective, Vic finds Reed to be absurd. He sees Reed for who e is and doesn’t understand why no one else can. Reed Richards is a reckless, excitable, short-sighted, glory-hog. He is. If you read the character with any semblance of realism, you’d see that. Ho many times has Sue comments on how she and the rest of his family, take a backseat to science? How many times has Reed, himself, sacrificed a relationship or to, in service to the solution of an equation? Doom saw all of that in college. Reed represents the structural issues of the world and it frustrates Vic to no end. In some continuities, the genesis of Vic going full Doom rest on an accident Reed commits because of that shortsightedness. It goes a long way to checking Reeds ego and he does become a better person for it, but it was at the cost of scarring Vic for life, both physically and mentally. Yet another example of the system, ruining Doom’s life.
Bruce, after his trauma, has kept a strong support system. First and foremost, since day one, he had Alfred. Doom had no one. Bruce then built a family, adopting all of the children and surrounding himself with love. Doom’s one true love died and was dragged down to hell. We know this because he punches out Mephisto whenever he can. Also, his mom is down there, too. Bruce eventually met Diana and Kal, becoming fast friends and life long confidants. Outside of Catwoman, I think Diana makes for the perfect romantic partner of Bruce and that is shown in several continuities. Reed just reinforced Doom’s disgust with the machinations of the world, eventually further degrading Doom’s tenuous hold of his ability to trust in others, by psychically maiming him. The negative impact Reed had on Doom’s life is f*cking profound, man. I’m not saying Doom should have taken it as far as he did, but it’s hard to argue against trying to kill a dude who had ruined years of your work, destroyed you reputation, and physically maimed you forever. That doesn’t seem wholly outrageous to me. I think it’s called justifiable homicide? The only reason Doom stopped trying to murder Reed is because Valeria was born. Valeria became the first person Doom felt real affection for, since the death of his wife. I think Morgan le Fay could be another, but that might have just been a time-space booty call. Valeria Richards and her relationship with he Uncle Doom, is what gave Vic the strength to be better. Bruce had that love his entire life, even immediately after his darkest day. Doom went decades without it.
Up until Valeria was born, all Doom had was his time spent as a destitute street rat, struggling to survive, to inform him about life and the world at large. That brazen cruelty for sure emotionally crippled him in a lot of ways, I'm not even going to start to defend his arrogance or superiority complex, but trauma does that. That's why i think Bats would eventually come around. They've both seen the absolute worst of the world and, in a lot of ways, go about righting those wrongs in the same way. If you pay attention, and the writer is worth their salt, you'd see that Latveria is an autocratic socialist paradise. Latverians are among the most literate, healthy, and happy people in the 616. Jobs are plentiful and crime is almost non-existent. Mans even cured cancer, which he made available to the world, if those people choose to make the trip to Latveria for treatment. The world of 616, at large, likes to paint Vic as this evil despot but, if you interview a laymen of Latveria, they’ll sing his praises. Most people forget that, before Doom returned for his birthright, Latveria was a whole ass occupied state. Think the relationship between Israel and Palestine. Latveria was basically falling into doorknobs for Symkaria and pretending that they weren’t in an abusive relationship. Doom showed up and changed all that. It was a bloody f*cking conflict, for sure, and i am certain Vic committed war crimes, but the end result was a free Latveria with a strong international presence. Doom is a hero to those people but a villain to other nations because of how he rose to power and, more importantly, how independent he made hi country from the world system. Doom did what was necessary to free his people, a march too far for Bruce and that’s why Gotham is the way that it is.
People who don’t know the character like to paint Vic as ego-maniacal villain, and that was valid when comics were just "hero smash bad guy", but we've grown beyond that. Every pop culture interpretation of Doom, outside of the comics, has him as this stoic, arrogant, asshole, dictator bu that’s just not an accurate portrayal of how Doom is in a modern capacity. Vic is definitely an autocrat but he’s no dictator. He can be cruel at times to specific individuals but he is generally benevolent to his people. He doesn’t portray himself as a strongman but he does let it be known he’ll nuke anyone or anything if it means furthering his overall goals which, currently, is the safety and security of Latveria. His country isn’t a police state and his people are free to do as they please but their is a line, just like everywhere else in the world. Doom just has a shorter one and enforces that with extreme prejudice. I’m not going to sit here and say everything is great in Latveria, it’s definitely not, but it ain’t so hot in 616 America either. How many Civil Wars have they had? What about that whole tidbit with Hydra Cap? There is nuance and gray nowadays, areas that both Bats and Doom comfortably call home. Batman is, objectively, not a pure hero. He is, at best, a chivalric anti-hero and similarly, Doom is more of an anti-villain than the mustache twirling, boogeyman, mastermind pop media portrays him to be. Batman and Doom are basically the same person, with the same motivations, only Doom is willing to go much, much, further than Bruce; A difference in method you an attribute to their respective upbringings.
If Doom had the same support system as Bruce, he’d create miracles. We’ve seen glimpses of that throughout the years. Dooms last run culminated with him essentially obliterating an entire universe where he had the support necessary to build a proper utopia. Our Doom couldn’t fathom the choices made by this variant Doom because of how broken he is. If Bruce was alone in his formative years like Victor, he’d commit atrocities. We’ve seen glimpses of that over they years, too. There are various narratives that explore just such a tragic turn of events, explored in the Death Metal series of books. Dawnbreaker immediately comes to mind. Bruce and victor are the same side of the same coins. It's literally a crap shoot as to which side of the alignment chart either leans. And as if to inform my point further, we just recently had Joker War. That book went a long way to exposing the absolute necessity of raw force, in order to properly “save”Gotham. Joker was able to completely dismantle that entire city by attacking the machinery put in lace to make it run. He effectively proved that The Batman was part of the problem and would never be the solution because Bruce doesn’t go far enough. He puts out fires but never address the sparks which start those blazes. He doesn’t go far enough. He never will. His code won’t allow him to. But Doom can. Doom did. Honestly, if you really want to keep it real, what is Bruce's endgame? What does a healthy Gotham City look like? It looks a lot like f*cking Latveria.
So to answer this question outright, i don’t think they even fight. The way this hypothetical was set up had three rounds: the first being a standard donnybrook, the second being prep time, and the last being god mode. To be perfectly honest with you, it wouldn't make it past the first round. If i had to say, with pedestrian or normie level understanding of he characters, Doom sweeps all categories. For Round one, Doom’s armor trumps all of Batman’s gadgets. For Round Two, Doom has more resources at his fingertips for prep. For Round The God Emperor Doom exists. He created several realities and killed a few Beyonders. Batman sat in a chair which gave him access to all the wisdom in the multiverse, and realized there were three Jokers. Doom all the way. My informed opinion as someone who adores both these character more than most would have me think there wouldn’t even be a conflict to begin with. I think they’d investigate the inciting catalyst, meet in person with intent to attack if necessary, size each other up until one of them made the proposal to just talk, they'd converse, and the fight would end with both of them walking away from each other with begrudging respect. Doom would admire Bruce's will and Bruce would understand the necessity of Doom's position in the world because, if you can make it make sense, Bruce will usually agree. Batman, for all of his shortcomings, is not naive to the world. He’s seen the same darkness as Doom. Doom, for all of his pompous arrogance, understands the struggle to maintain faith in those around you, even if that noble aspiration is misplaced. Bruce is one bad day away from Doom and Doom is a decades worth of days from being Bruce. They mirror each other and i think they’d see that, taking each other as cautionary tales before becoming collaborators. I don’t see them ever really becoming friends but i don't think they’d ever be true enemies.

ABOUT:
Born Cecilia Anastasia Casiraghi, the baby of the Casiraghi family. You know them and you hate them, real asshat parents who value money and prestige over actually being nice to their kids. It's hard not to grow up despising your parents in that setting, though Cecilia would be lying if she said she didn't enjoy the being rich part of it all. Still, it wasn't worth the pressure and scrutiny she received from her parents.
She grew up in a giant castle in Italy where she liked to pretend she was a princess trapped in the highest tower waiting to be rescued. Cecilia watched her older siblings seem so put together and polished, exactly what their parents wanted them to be, and couldn't help but feel isolated from the rest of her family ( though her older brother Nico was her fave ) . The older she got, the longer she waited for things to snap into place, only to be met with disappointment.
She got more rebellious as she got older, which didn't bode well in the Casiraghi household. Her father tried to break her spirit, which in turn only made her angier, causing her to run away when she was sixteen. She didn't leave so much of a note to her family, but she knew if they wanted to find her, they'd have the resources to do so. They didn't.
She struggled once moving to London, because a rich girl isn't exactly great at not being rich, but she had been saving up stolen money from her parents for a few months before leaving, so she had enough to find herself a place to live while she worked odd jobs here and there. She wanted to focus on art, her passion, the one thing her family had always told her she was good at ( though they also said it wasn't practical ) . But, surprise surprise, art is NOT practical, and nobody wanted to buy paintings from an actual nobody.
The story goes that she struggled for about a year before making connections with a local art gallery to hold a week-long exhibit of her work. There she made a few sales on her art, though the most noteworthy one had been selling a self-portrait to a wealthy older man who took a liking to Cecilia and decided to fund her art career, and her lifestyle. From then on she lived the glamorous city life she had been destined for, only realizing recently that art and partying can only get her so far. She had begun to miss the world she had been born into, even if she didn't miss the family that came with it. So Celia reached out to a few old contacts, and was able to secure herself a spot at Gallagher Academy in the fall. Despite the drama of her parents being arrested for tax evasion and fraud, she found that the name Casiraghi still holds some weight in the spy world.
WARNING: TOP SECRET INFORMATION
The reality of the situation is that even with the money Celia had stolen from her parents, her life was nowhere close to the one she used to live, and being poor kind of got old. Plus she still had this BURNING anger towards her parents, partly for letting her leave so easily.
She had been living on her own for almost a year, and what little money she had left was slowly depleting. She had been one level above rock bottom when a faculty member of Caledonia Institute found her. Though she had no interest in returning to the spy world, they had fed into her ego that her being a part of their team was IMPERATIVE, and in return they would give her back the life she once had, while making her parents suffer. How could she say no to that?
At only seventeen she was one of the youngest to enroll in Caledonia, and she became a professional spy in the process. She'd have to sit through two years of training and schooling before getting an active mission, but training at Caledonia -- while strict -- was unlike the harsh treatments she was used to from training with her family. With a new outlook on the spy world, Cecilia began to enjoy it once more, and it helped that she was good at it.
Mr. Stewart of Caledonia had promised her that her parents would pay for their sins, and in the spring he had upheld his end of the bargain. Her parents were caught and tried for tax evasion and fraud, and she heard through the grapevine that they'll be going to jail for a long time. Though she wasn't sure what this means for her siblings, Celia was just glad karma finally bit them in the ass.
Conveniently after they're arrested, Mr. Stewart gave Cecilia an assignment for the fall : everyone knows about Cole Conner's Gallagher Academy assignment from last fall, and how he's garnered less-than-stellar results. So she’s been enrolled as an incoming first year, returning to the spy world with a story weaved of her glamorous life in London, ready to pay off her debts to Caledonia without hesitation.
PERSONALITY:
Celia is a total chameleon, able to morph her image and personality when needed in social situations. It's how she makes herself easily likable and gets people to let her in easily, though her doe eyes certainly don't hurt. She makes it easy for people to get wrapped up in her storytelling and the lies she spins for the sake of getting on other's good sides. Not only is she good at it, but she gets off on the thrill of it, because it's fun pretending to be someone you're not ! Whatever you want her to be, she can be it.
Underneath the surface, Cecilia is truly a spoiled brat who likes getting her way and winning, and once in a while parts of that haughtiness will break through the cracks of her facade. Caledonia had worked hard to take the rebel out of the girl, but parts of it still appear on occasion, though never against her agency.
Above everything, she's trying not to make waves while in Gallagher, to go by undetected, so the easiest way to describe her would be Nice. ( This might change while I play her so we’ll see welp. )
TL;DR: She's Nico's younger sister ! But ran away from her family when she was sixteen because she hates them, and at her lowest point Caledonia Institute swooped in and saved her ( and also got her parents arrested and made them lose their money whomp whomp ) and now she's a double agent working for them. She’s looking to make friends with everyone who’s anyone at Gallagher. Two-faced bitch but ya gotta love her ? Or don't, you probably shouldn't.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
She’s going to be meticulously crafting her own inner circle of friends for her own enjoyment at Gallagher, a mix of people from influential families and those who are deemed “popular” or worth having around, please send headshots and a resume if ur interested xoxo
Family friends of the Casiraghi family, who she hasn’t seen in at least three years.
Other students who trained with her siblings in the super super exclusive training program her parents ran.
Those she's crossed paths with living in London for a year: friends, flings, fellow artists, coworkers at her crappy jobs, etc.
Fellow first years she can glom onto for automatic friendships right off the bat, regardless of who they are
Legacy family students she can cozy up to for the sake of her job
Someone who is reluctant to trust her, despite her attempts to befriend them/get on their good side
Someone with a crush on her that can sorta see how malleable her personality and is like? But show me the real you?
A no-strings relationship that’s purely physical
Someone she’s stringing along for the sake of getting close and getting information out of them
An upperclassman mentor figure to show her the ropes of Gallagher and help her acclimate
A ride or die that she feels a kinship with, where they click enough that she can be more like herself ( aka a little bitchy )
Someone with a really optimistic/romantic outlook on life that truly tests Cecilia’s efforts to match their enthusiasm
Fellow artists she can spend her free time painting in the gardens with and help her get back into it
Fellow LCA + S&F majors who she’ll either have in her classes or that can give her some class pointers or offer their old notes to her
Someone she got drunk with and maybe let something slip that she shouldn’t have and now it’s awk
Someone weak-willed that she can easily take advantage of/manipulate into doing things for her
Fellow smokers even though I don’t condone the habit!
I have some things on her pinterest page here for inspo, also this tag
Lit rally anything please hmu !
#gallagher:intro#sorry this is the worlds longest intro#there's a tl;dr at the end that's worth it i promise#leaving this here xx

Fullmetal Alchemist Liveblog Ep. 7
Fullmetal Alchemist Ep. 7: Night of the Chimera's Cry
Trigger Warning: I hit some pretty dark topics in these reflections, including murder
Sounds like Colonel Mustard is pretty pissed off about Ed's comment in the last episode about alchemists being the military's dogs.
"There's a serial killer around. He only targets women." Sounds like a case for... Fulmetal Alchemist: Buddy Cop! Cue perky theme song!
lol I think Alexander is telling Ed that he made the wrong decision in becoming a state alchemist. Also, why do they think that one of them needs to be a state alchemist to get their bodies back? Like... this just occurred to me. You can do alchemy without being part of the military forces. So they can keep researching and try to find an answer. I guess maybe they thought they would have more resources if one of them got certified? Which, quite frankly, is true.
Either that, or the dog is trying to prove that becoming a state alchemist hasn't changed Ed. Of course, he is twelve, and that is how twelve year olds behave (some to think of it, this would also be the reason for him being *very dramatic*)
I wonder if Mustang didn't want Al to pass because then he would have to admit that he recruited them after he did illegal alchemy, and he shouldn't have done that. Like... if the secret about why Al is in a suit of armor had come out then he would have gotten a demotion or something, since we know he's very concerned with heirarchy.
"He is a prodigy." "Hopefully, that's a blessing." It isn't always, is it?
Twelve year old boy excited about celebratory feast. Ed is so cute!
Nina is the best!
Tucker is the only one who knows just how horrific and dangerous making a talking chimera is, isn't he? And thus, he doesn't want to do it, but not doing it means he risks losing his certification. *sigh* Sometimes people just need to listen when the scientists say it's too dangerous *looks pointedly at Edward*
Wait... I thought Winry was their cousin for some reason... maybe I just misunderstood the usage of politeness terms. Okay, so Ed has a crush on Winry. That's cute.
"she told my dad he was a good for nothing alchemist and he couldn't do anything right and she went to live with her parents." Oh boy, the honesty of children. I was working with a group of 6 year olds like... ten years ago, when one asked the other why he didn't live with his mom, he calmly replied that her boyfriend had murdered her. Like... the honesty of children, holy shit.
Al stroking Nina's head is the cutest! Seriously!
This poor guy. Waaay too much pressure.
So Ed's going to try to make a talking chimera to help Tucker get his certification
Oh my gosh, new daddy is also the cutest.
"the human language." Is there only one?
"Why would he make such a miserable thing?" Well, he wasn't trying to make it miserable.
Hmm... Tucker's wife died before he got here? The thick plottens. I'm guessing his wife's death and the creation of the chimera are in some way related.
The serial killer may also be related
And probably this weird guy with the funny tattoo
Whoa. Poor Ed. Fangirl crack!
"I've had my suspicions about you two ever since I saw your bodies." Is this because you've tried something similar?
Okay, random interesting fact: the dubbing uses the word "king," but the subtitles use the word "fuhrer." I wonder why they chose that word. I also wonder who did the subtitles, since that's a pretty loaded word in English-dominant countries.
"Daddy, are you hurting?" Jeez, kids are so damn perceptive.
Oh. Ed's not interested in the chimera because he wants to help Tucker get his certification back. He's interested in the chimera because he thinks that Tucker's research could give him info on how to bring back their bodies (and/or their mom). He probably also thinks the chimera is still alive (which, let's admit, is probably true.)
Anndd... as always, this show turns out to more horrific than what I expect is coming. Turns out he has a whole roomful of chimeras in little cages. What has this guy been doing?
"Listen dear, that's your friend Edward." He sounds like he's talking to Nina. Did he use Nina's soul to make this thing? Like... is this chimera actually Nina? 15 mins. Calling it.
Or I guess it could be Alexander... or possibly Nina and Alexander combined. I mean, that's what a chimera is, isn't it? It's animals mixed together?
Nailed it! tv show-2, Me-3
Here, I think the subtitles did a better job than the dubbing. Because the chimera says "big brother," which is your oh shit moment.
Wow, I sympathized with Tucker until now. I mean... I knew that whatever he had done, he didn't want to do it again because he felt the sacrifice was too great. And it was hard to understand him sacrificing his daughter for his lifestyle, but on some level, I was like... well maybe he's just getting pushed so hard that he feels he has no choice... and then he starts laughing maniacally and telling Ed they're the same because they both used people. I mean, there is the question of why do we feel that Ed is different? And I guess it's because he used himself. I mean yes, it was Al who ended up attached to the suit, but you know that if Ed could have swapped that, he would have. He would have given himself for Al rather than what happened, and that's why he's got the I-am-Atlas complex. Because he feels guilt for using someone else instead of himself. It's like... a basic law of blood magic, isn't it? You don't use other people's blood (I mean, maybe... if they're consenting, but... that's a whole 'nother conversation.) Anyway, now this guy reminds me of those scientists who didn't talk to their own children to see if language was innate. Like... scientific study shouldn't bring us into the world of abuse. If it does, maybe it's better not to know.
And hear how Ed can't finish his own sentences? He's plagued with the question of why he did do it, of how much he is like this guy, of whether he will be consumed by his quest for knowledge and power. Assuming they continue this character arc, this is going to make for a nice show.
Oh my god, seeing Nina in this state is *devastating.*
WHy do I get the impression that Tucker is not actually going to face a court martial? And why is the military always willing to take scientific study to the place of abuse?
Huh. He's got a metal arm too.
Oh. Here's the dude with the tattoos. Is he the serial killer? And what's going to happen when these two meet?
So... he's killing people with his tattoos, but he doesn't know exactly how? And he's perhaps some type of angel of death? Trying to relieve people of their pain. Ooh. I want the serial killings from his POV now. It seems he doesn't even know exactly what he is, which might be why he's going what he's doing.
Ooh... He's interesting. I want to know more about him.
Cue overly-cheerful sounding credit music!
Okay, this show is getting really good.
Predictions:
Tattoo Guy will show up again (okay, that's a gimme)
Tattoo Guy will eventually come face to face with Ed, and probably try to kill him because he is an alchemist. Ed will survive. Tattoo guy will probably die... and somewhere in there we will get more backstory about just how he came to be.
Questions:
Why doesn't Ed need a transmutation circle?
What does "fullmetal alchemist" mean?
Will Tucker actually be court marshalled? (I doubt it)
Who is tattoo guy? And what happened to his arm?

👉👈 could you do our boi Charlie? Thanks Butterfly!
yesyes!
Charlie Lee Fluff Alphabet
Activities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them? As weird as it might be, he loves going on walks with his girlfriend/fiancée/wife. He adores times with the two most beautiful things in the world; nature and his lover!
Beauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them? Our boy Charlie always seems to be drawn to her eyes. If it wouldn't be weird, he would stare into them all day.
Comfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.? He would at first stand in front of them and ask her if she would like him to stay or not. If yes, he tends to do that one thing where it's like 'What are 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, ect.' if she's going through a panic attack. For cheering his lovely up, he will do the goofiest and dumbest things to make her smile it's not even funny. Memorize the entire bee movie script in ASL? lol okay
Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o? He will immediately start bringing your thoughts and opinions into his life when he's only crushing. 's/o said she likes tulips I should have a bouquet in a vase on the table..' LIKE THE SIMP HE IS
Equal - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive? Ooo that 100% is up to how his gf is, but he doesn't mind either
Fight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting? He would only be really fighting his loved one if it's a very serious topic and if he's really hurt by what you did/said. With that being said, he will REFUSE to apologize first srry :/ ALSO THIS MAN IS SO PETTY HE WILL TAKE OUT HIS HEARING AIDS AND COVER HIS EYES-
Gratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them? There isn't a single second that goes by that he won't thank whatever great power is out there for you. You'd be one of the only people that keeps him sane in his crazy world. You'll quickly turn into his rock and he'll be the same for you
Honesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything? He won't tell you every single little detail about ACME or what he does there due to you're own safety (unless u work there then he's still quiet about it) and it'll take him even LONGER to open up to you about his old family
Inspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems? You keep him down to earth. As basic as that sentence is, it holds a lot of meaning with a lifestyle like his
Jealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it? Charlie doesn't mean to but he gets jealous REALLY easily. He feels like he's being toxic and awful everytime he does but he just doesn't want to lose you. He won't act on his feelings unless you're uncomfortable with the other person and then he's vry grabby and there's lots of PDA. Maybe something special once you two go back home ;)))
Kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like? HE SUCKS HE IS THE WORST KISSER because he's a loner duh. You two's first kiss will be rushed and your teeth will boink 😔
Love Confession - How would they confess to their s/o? He writes you a little note like a schoolgirl but shhh he's nervous b nice
Marriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like? He wants to but it would take a lotttaaaa convinces. From you and other ppl like Chief but once he proposes (which will take place probably in your two's shared house) he feels like the luckiest man in the world. As if he didnt already lol
Nicknames - What do they call their s/o? He signs 'Beautiful' and 'Dearest' because yet again heS A SIMP
On Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings? He's such a nervous gentleman because he really wants to be the best for you but omg he's so scareddd! You'll absolutely be his first girlfriend! He doesn't talk about you at work AT ALL but ppl know somn is a lil fishy
PDA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching? At work? No. You're a rumour that he didn't even spread. In public tho?? He's a little more open. This man is terrified that he might be being followed or watched by VILE operatives so no kisses but hand holding and hugs? Absolutely.
Quirk - Some random ability they have that's beneficial in a relationship He will write shitty poetry about you that you'll only find while lookin through his stuff. He's also a virgin but eh that's expected
Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative? This loser will literally buy a "romance for dummies" book and follow every rule it says but it'll but up to you to make things more natural for the both of yall
Support - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them? bruh are you kidding tHIS MAN IS YOUR CHEERLEADER!!! He does everything he can to help you and your dreams
Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine? He's been living with routines his entire life so those come along by nature but he wouldn't mind spicing things up a little to your liking
Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic? Charlie is so understanding about your emotions and headspaces it's almost terrifying but you can't blame him he's a nerddd it's what he does
Value - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life? When push comes to shove, he would die for you. Kill for you? debateable on who it is but that's just him. You won't be some fling that gets forgotten so your relationship would practically be crucial to him
Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon. Charlie Lee adores your voice. You cannot change that no matter how hard you may try.
XOXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle? HE IS THE BIGGEST CUDDLE BUG! He smooches every place youre good with and is attached to you like a koala and it WILL get annoying. He's so touched starved one kiss on the cheek and he's hooked-
Yearning - How will they cope when they're missing their partner? He throws himself into his work and is honestly rlly snappy at people. He's signing rude but honest stuff left and right because most of the ACME team doesn't understand ASL anyways but that's only if you're gone for a rlllllyyyyyy long time
Zeal - Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of? Like earlier, die and kill. If your relationship is as important to you as it is him then he'd live for you. He's not used to being romantic and having a partner but gosh darnet will he learn. And once he does, he's not half bad :)

70. What do you, the creator of this OC, like most about them? Her unbreakable will and the tendency absolutely wreck havoc where that is needed. To be sacrificed to a cruel god who feeds of your pain and misery and at that instance decide that instead of caving in your misery, you will instead become the worst sacrifice they’ve ever received by laughing at their face.. Idk man, I think that takes some balls. (As previously answered)

76. Who would be their cuddle buddy? Whoever would be brave enough to recognize that she is actually touch starved.
77. Who would cheer them up after a long day? Usually, she is one to stay alone, so when she is in need of company, she’ll just start up a conversation with a stranger.
78. If they had a nightmare, who would they run to? By now, she is used to nightmares, but if she could, her brothers and sisters are who she’d go to. She wouldn’t say anything, their company is enough to calm her most of the times. When not, meditating in an empty dark room usually helps calm her down.
79. What object to the care for the most? It’s not the object it’s self but the information in it. A small book with maps of all the places she has visited.

90. What is a joke that they would find funny? -Then perish- jokes.
91. Do they have a place that can go and turn off their brain? Usually any room without much light, otherwise, a closet will do.
92. What was their childhood like? She doesn’t remember a lot of it, but she know she was happy. One of her few memories is of her and her little sister playing explorers in their mother’s garden. The years after turning to a shade she also considers a short of childhood or at least teen hood as she had to readjust and find new balances in her life. It took her a while to figure out how to care for people again when she could hardly feel anything, but little by little she managed to give up her spite. Those years were the roughest for her.
93. What are they like as an adult? After her second “puberty”, she learned to be quiet more free spirited, relaxed and easy going thought with certain events that happened in her life span, her spite towards a certain group of individuals reignited.
94. Do they take criticism well? Most of the times. She wants to generally improve herself.
95. Have they ever jumped out of a plane? Well.. Not a plane, no. But I can imagine her jumping off of a floating city.
96. Who do they like to make jokes with? The bastard that gives her her assignments.
97. Have you ever drawn them before? If you are comfortable with it, would you post a picture?

Reasons to be Hopeful for Gendrya season 8:
“I have a son. You have a daughter. We’ll join our houses.”
They have tried to marry a Stark girl with a Baratheon twice now. Robert and Lyanna. Joffrey and Sansa. Third time’s the charm!
Robert and Lyanna are a lot like Gendry and Arya, both in looks and some of their major personality traits. And we see they have similar relationships to Ned and Jon respectively. See how much Robert and Ned’s first scene parallels Gendry and Jon’s meeting- these first serious and solemn-looking exchanges end in smiles and good natured ribbing. Jon and Arya are especially close, just like Ned and Lyanna were. Also, Lyanna’s introduction— showing off her horseback riding in front of her brothers— feels similar to Arya shooting an arrow into Bran’s target in the pilot episode. But Robert and Lyanna didn’t know each other very well, unlike Arya and Gendry who were friends and companions for a long time. Not to mention that Gendry and Arya are much better people than Robert and Lyanna. Gendry is not a drunken philanderer and Arya isn’t as thoughtless (and selfish?) as Lyanna.
Compare Arya’s first meeting with Hot Pie in season 1 to their final goodbye in season 7. In season 1, they met just after Arya lost her family. She was already devastated when Hot Pie insulted her and tried to intimidate her. Arya threatened him and it was one of the first times we see the depths of her fierceness. In season 7, Arya finds Hot Pie just after she avenged her family. She’s already feeling pretty happy(ish) when Hot Pie tells her that Jon has Winterfell, that she’s pretty and calls her his friend. It is the first time in awhile we see her heart and emotions absolutely unguarded. Hot Pie and Arya’s reunion highlights how he went from her bully to her friend, from kicking her while she was already down to giving her the best news she had heard in years when she was as happy as she ever expected to be again. So Arya and Gendry reuniting ought to show us how much their relationship has changed too; from friends to something more.
So far, very few reunion scenes have featured both characters being taken by surprise. Sansa went looking for Jon. Bran knew when he’d see his siblings. Arya probably hoped to see Hot Pie at that inn. Davos tracked down Gendry. The guards told Arya that Sansa was at Winterfell and they told Sansa that Arya was there. Arya learned from Sansa that Bran was home. Jon knows that Bran and Arya are at Winterfell. Sandor knows that Arya survived. So I think it’s very interesting that at this point, both Arya and Gendry are completely unaware that the other is still alive. I think it’s intentional so that it can be one of the few reunions where it’s a complete surprise to both of them.
Just generally speaking, they were as heavy-handed with shippiness as they could get away with in seasons 1- 3 considering the age difference. They had a hard line to walk between “planting the seeds” of a future relationship and not making Gendry look creepy and I think they handled well:
Their first meeting is a classic “meet cute,” especially among kids and/or in adventure stories, where A defends B from danger or harassment.
Gendry realized Arya was a girl pretty quickly or maybe even immediately. In the books, it’s only after their little group is on their own for awhile that he notices she goes far away to pee. I know a factor might be simplifying things because of time constraints. But I think it’s worth noting that in these situations, the love interest will often see through the disguise. It also gets bonus points because even with long hair, Arya had been frequently mistaken for a boy.
“As my lady commands” can be seen as having a similar vibe as Robb and Theon laughing hysterically after Arya throws some food at Sansa. But it definitely can be seen a flirting-- if in a “kids in the school yard” kind of way.
She ogles him blatantly while he is shirtless. Growing up with lots of brothers and their friends and swimming with them and stuff.... it’s not like male anatomy is a mystery to her. It’s basically a big flashing sign telling the audience that Arya does not see Gendry as some kind of big brother replacement.
When they leave Harrenhal, it’s clear that Gendry doesn’t think it’s safe to do so. But Arya goes and he follows rather quickly. Either he really trusts her judgement or he’s willing to die with her.
We often see them exchanging meaningful looks and/or practically reading each other’s minds. When they hear that lady talk about how they’re all slowly being tortured and killed in Harrenhal. When the Mountain picks Gendry to be rat food. How Gendry checks with her before he tells Thoros the blacksmith he used to train with. When they say goodbye to Hot Pie and he gives them that misshapen wolf bread. Or when Arya tries to stab the Hound, Gendry stops her when the rest of the Brotherhood is still dumbstruck. I almost always only see that kind of non-verbal communication in characters that are siblings (twins more specifically) or a couple.
They get a pretty long one-on-one farewell. This show is not big on goodbye scenes. Most are off screen and if not, tend to be rather brief and the characters have to have a stiff upper lip because there are other people around or because they can’t/won’t open up. But the scene where Gendry tells Arya that he wants to stay with the Brotherhood is very emotional and both of them get a bit teary-eyed. It’s not their literal goodbye scene, but it figuratively is. The audience learns that they will soon be parting ways and it is the last time they really speak to each other on screen. Obviously, since their actual separation would be caused by Mel dragging him away, they wouldn’t get an actual, proper goodbye. I think the writers really wanted to show the audience that these two care about each other a lot and would miss each other terribly.
The only other goodbyes I can think of that matches the intensity, music, and dialogue of this scene are Dany saying goodbye to Jorah and Bran saying goodbye to Rickon and Osha. Jorah declares his love and Dany cries tells him that he has to get better because she needs him. And those two were one of the longest running relationships on the show and a popular BroTP/OTP for six seasons. Bran and Rickon, of course, were the last Stark siblings to separate and Osha had been Bran’s last proper guardian figure.
And of course there’s “You wouldn’t be my family. You’d be m’lady.” Yes, this is mainly Gendry highlighting the differences in their stations. But... I do think the use of “m’lady” was deliberate as hell. “M’lady” is loaded with romantic connotations and has long been associated with dashing knights in love with noble maidens fair. Even today, there’s a stereotype of cringe-y guys trying too hard to get girls to swoon by calling them “m’lady.” Heck, even Joffrey trying to woo Sansa made a big deal about calling her “my lady” every time he spoke to her or about her. Not to mention, seeing as Arya was Robb’s sister, wouldn’t it have been more likely she’d have to be referred to as “Princess”? So you can accuse me of shipper goggles, but I don’t think it was a coincidence that a sentence that’s supposed to mean “I won’t be part of your family because I’m a dirty peasant” could also easily be interpreted as “I won’t be like a brother to you, you’ll be my wife.”
Also, we already know that Arya does not have sisterly feelings towards Gendry. So her offering to be his family is especially selfless and sweet. Hey, while I’m being trash, I’d like to point out that family can mean brother and sister and it can also refer to a married couple. Maybe this is foreshadowing that Arya is the one to propose. Heh.
Finally, Arya is not going to be happy staying in Winterfell for the rest of her life. We learn in season 6 that Arya wants to travel the world and see what’s west of Westeros. In season 7, we see that Nymeria has formed her own pack and is forging her own, unconventional path. Clearly, Arya is heading to a similar lifestyle. She is not a lone wolf, however, and she’s going to want someone to go with her. Jon, Sansa, and Bran couldn’t accompany her even if they wanted to. Hot Pie is happy where he is. Sandor is probably going to be 100% done with road trips. If Brienne isn’t too busy with Jaime (let me have my delusions dreams), she’ll probably feel more obligated to stay with Sansa. That pretty much leaves Gendry. And if you recall how quickly he dropped everything to go off with Davos, he has no reason to hang around, either
Bonus shipper trash reason-- the story technically kinda starts with Lyanna dumping Robert and eloping with Ragdoll Tergiversation so it’s only fitting that it ends with Lyanna’s niece eloping with Robert’s son. :)
#arya stark#gendry#gendrya#arya x gendry#game of thrones#i have been waiting since 8th grade vocab class to use tergiversation in a sentence hahaha

Congratulations, Maddie! You’ve been accepted to play Juliet Carmichael. Please make your page and send it in within 24 hours.
Admin note: Maddie, you’re an insanely talented writer, and I found myself smiling so much at your description of Juliet. I loved the mentions of Plath, Austen, and Palahniuk. That was one of my favorite parts of this audition! - Admin V
IC INFORMATION —
CHARACTER DESIRED Juliet Carmichael
DESCRIBE THE CHARACTER IN YOUR OWN WORDS
Juliet’s still trying to find her place in life. She always wanted to get out of the lifestyle that she grew up in, but I think she fears she’s falling back into it. Maybe there’s money, now, but there’s also violence and drugs and alcohol. She very much fears that it’s a cycle she’ll never escape. As a child, I imagine she drowned herself in books as a form of escapism, and it gave her a lot of ideas on how life should be. If she should be depressed, it should be very agonising and very Plath. If she should fall in love, it should be overwrought and Austen. If she should suffer, it should be glamorous, and so Palahniuk. There were a lot of ‘shoulds’, but of course life never pans out how you expect.
I think she struggled a lot with her relationship with Mason. In a lot of ways he is her hero, because he took care of her, and was the closest thing to a role model she had. But at the same time, in his efforts to look after her, he found himself in the drug trade- and if her parents taught her one good thing, it’s that drugs are dangerous, awful substances to be near. She worried about him, and wanted him out of the business, and then he went to prison and all of her fears were vindicated. How could she not be angry? She loves her brother more than anything, but that love comes with a heavy price. Mason has to bear the weight of all of Juliet’s expectations, as well as her affection.
Her upbringing has given her a bit of a saviour complex, I think. Her parents gave in to their demons, and Juliet blames herself. Children are meant to be the silver lining in whatever clouds plague their parents’ lives, and she was never enough for them. In the end, she projects that on to other people. She was furious when Mason went to prison, because he should have been better. She raged when Luca went out on benders, because he was smarter than that. She wants to fix the broken things around her, but the world isn’t so easily controlled.
From that, comes her love of writing.
She can mold a world in which things go her way, in a way that’s never happened in real life. In real life, the world happens to her. In her writing? Juliet happens to it. Lately, she’s been struggling with her writing, because she feels like a fraud - like she’s trying to be too many things at once. Is it okay to be an escort and an ambitious student? Is it possible to work alongside criminals and still be a good person? Is she a hypocrite? Juliet isn’t sure any more. She isn’t sure who she is, or even who she wants to be, and she’s afraid to write in case she sees a stranger reflected back in her words.
WRITING SAMPLE
001
Her phone lit up, and Juliet’s eyes shot towards the screen.
But it was just work. Fuck.
Tapping her thumb anxiously against the screen before she unlocked it, she tried desperately to undo the knot in her stomach. She couldn’t work tonight - she’d turn the job down. It was fine. She replied with a negative, recommending another girl that might be free tonight, and returned to staring at her screen. Should have deleted Luca’s number, she thought. She could delete it now. But when she went to his contact information, she found herself typing a message to him instead.
Are you okay?
She hesitated over the ‘send’ button, before deleting it. Luca wasn’t her problem any more. She wasn’t strong enough; she couldn’t look after him. But he was also impossible to forget, a whirlwind that had swept her away. She’d had a hard time convincing herself to go to his wedding, because she wasn’t sure if she was ready to see him move on. Juliet knew herself: leaving him had been the best thing for her, but it had also been the hardest thing she’d ever done. When it was good, it was so good, but when it was bad, all she could think about was her dad snoring on the couch, reeking of whisky and screaming in her face if she’d dared to make a noise.
She thought of Mason, working hard to look after a kid he’d never asked to be in charge of. She thought of Luca, and all his bad habits, and how maybe it’s cute and fun when you’re in your twenties, but old habits die hard and the partying would start to rot him soon enough.
She knew how it worked. She’d seen addiction in action before. But she’d also seen how bad things could cause a sharp downward spiral. And despite it all, she was worried about him. His fiance had been shot at their wedding. How could he be okay? She could already imagine him washing pills down with booze.
“Not your problem, not your problem, not your problem,” she mumbled to herself, tossing the phone face down on her couch and stretching her legs out. Let him poison himself. She couldn’t keep wasting her energy on him. If he’d really cared, he would have made more of an effort to ease up on the partying when he saw how it worried her. Juliet needed to put herself first. She needed a bubble bath, she needed to put on her silk pyjamas, and she needed a hot chocolate and a chick flick. No work tonight, no trying to impress anyone.
Just Juliet.
002
She had been so angry. And it felt like such a cliche, sitting in the visitation room, raising her voice, spitting out ‘fuck you’s and ‘how could you be so goddamn stupid’s. It was almost funny, actually, that it didn’t matter how expensive her clothes were now, or how many people were willing to treat her like a princess worth spoiling, she still felt like trash from the wrong side of town.
She looked around at the cheap manicures around her, the bad haircuts, the clothes that didn’t fit right, and she had thought: I’m just like you. Even through that anger, though, she’d visited Mason every week without fail. He was her brother; he’d dropped everything to look after her when nobody else would. Hell, he’d only been arrested because of his work, and he only had his work because he’d been trying to take care of her. And she’d been right there waiting for him, with a change of clothes and a taxi, on the day he got out. He didn’t need to be looked after, but he was her brother. She’d care for him whether he liked it or not.
He had looked pale: that was her first thought when he emerged from the prison doors. Pale, but a free man.
Juliet threw her arms around him, burying her face against his shoulder. “If you ever get arrested again, I’m going to kill you,” she mumbled, fingers digging in. The Costello’s were a part of their lives, like it or not - they were in too deep, and she couldn’t ask him to stop working with them. Certainly not for as long as she still worked at Roma. But if Mason was ever stupid enough, reckless enough, to get caught again… she’d fight Marcel Costello if she had to, whatever it took to get Mason out of prison. She couldn’t lose him, not again.
003
She’d been afraid, initially, that she wasn’t cut out for this line of work. She didn’t ooze confidence, like the other girls. But in fact, her reserved nature seemed to be an asset. Customers seemed to like her because she was sweet. A little soft. Real. So they said, anyway.
They said a lot of things, as if the money they were paying her wasn’t enough.
You look beautiful, he said. And Juliet ducked her head, curls falling across her face in an effort to hide her shy smile. She’d never get used to that, probably. She didn’t feel beautiful, mostly. She felt like a plain, working class girl with beautiful clothes, beautiful hair, beautiful makeup.
Thank you, she said, wondering if she could give this up. After graduation, she’d not need to work for money. But she wondered, sometimes, if she needed the validation. The distraction.
Do you like my dress? She said, because they always seemed to like explicit permission to look at her body. I was worried it might not be appropriate for a nice place like this.
They also seemed to like feeling bigger than her, cleverer. Juliet never played dumb, but she’d play naive. She had the doe-eyed sweetheart thing down - it had been honest, in the beginning. She’d been insecure, new, uncertain. Now she knew what she was doing, and she knew what people liked. Men, like the one who had hired her tonight, liked to feel like they could teach you things. That was generally how she played it. Sweet and interested, and it wasn’t hard, because she was those things - she liked new people, hearing new stories even if they were made up to impress her. And it made them laugh all the harder when, later in the evening, she’d loosen up a little with a smirk, and make some cheeky comment that left them unsure if they should be flattered or insulted.

In this SuperCorp (Supergirl) Femslash Fanfiction Recommendation, I have collected 21 excellent Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor Alternate Universe (AU) stories.

A) Stories in which Kara is Kryptonian but not Supergirl / Stories without Supergirl
1. The One in Which Lena Learns to Cook and to Love
Cooking class with Kara Danvers by ramonaflow
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
1 Chapter, 17k words (completed)
Published: 2017
Lena takes a cooking class and gets more than she bargained for.
After being nagged by Jess, Lena (who is the CEO of L-Corp) enrolls for a cooking class. The instructor is a joyful, slightly clumsy and very cute young woman - Kara Danvers, and thus Lena meets Kara before she becomes Supergirl.
This is a perfect Supercorp romcom. Romantic, cute, funny and very well written. I loved it. There is also a very nice Cat, Lena, Kara lunch scene.
Favorite Quote:
"Sometimes I think you are flirting with me." Kara finally said in a whisper, shoulders slumped, not daring to look at Lena. Oh. Retreat ? "What if I am ?" Kara looked up, lips parted and eyes wide open. "You are ?" Lena laughed again. "Is it so surprising ?" "I don't know. Maybe. You're the first... the first woman to flirt with me." Kara stuttered, not even losing her pink colors. Did it mean she was straight ? Lena falling for a straight girl, what a heartbreaking feeling of déjà-vu. "I doubt that. Maybe you just didn't notice. But do you want me to stop ?" Kara played with her hands. "I don't know." "It's alright. I can leave if you want." "No ! Don't leave."
2. The College Roommates AU
you don't get me by shes_cured
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe); difficult roommates to friends to lovers
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
12 Chapters, 74k words (completed)
Published: 2017
Rating: Mature
Kara had plenty of daydreams about college, but none of them were anything like reality. Lena Luthor is cold and impossible to get along with, but maybe Kara is just what she needs. - A college AU where Kara and Lena start out as roommates and their journey through navigating their first four years of independence together.
This is a bumpy ride, especially as Kara thinks she is straight at the beginning of the story, but overall this is not this is not a very angsty story. That they don't fall in love right away and their journey to each other are some of the aspects I enjoyed the most about this story and I loved their banter.
I liked that while we get some glimpses into Lena's unhappy childhood, this is not a focus of the story.
While this is an AU, in some respects it feels like it could be very close to canon: this story is a very conceivable take how lonely, standoffish and socially awkward Lena was in college before she met Kara (or Sam). Kara is a Kryptonian and has powers, but she is not Supergirl (yet) and this does not play a major part in the story. This well written story is my favorite collage / university Supercorp fic.
Favorite Quotes:
It suddenly hit her that the version of Lena she’d been seeing, the girl she viewed as uptight and anal, was actually the relaxed version of Lena Luthor. What a terrifying realization that was.
“You can’t seriously be blind enough to miss how they look at you.”
“We’re friends,” she shrugged. “People never like me like that, trust me. ...
“Everyone likes you, don’t kid yourself,” Lena laughed, still blatantly not addressing the invitation Kara was giving out. “You’re preppy, bubbly and pretty - guys eat that shit up.”
Kara looked down with a smile for a moment. “Complimenting me isn’t an answer, but thank you. Don’t do it again, though, it’s weird coming from you.”
“It’s going to take you out of your comfort zone.”
“Kara, that could be anything,” Lena deadpanned. “I have a pretty small comfort zone. I need a better hint than that.”
To that, Kara just smiled, ignoring Lena’s crossed arms and attempts at intimidation. “If I gave it away it wouldn’t be a hint, now would it?”
3. The One in Which Kara Had Been Hiding from Cadmus for Years When She Meets Lena
A Ribbon at a Time by abcooper ; @abcooper
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
5 Chapters, 28k words (completed) Enemies to lovers (sort of), Kara is an alien refugee
Published: 2017
Rating: Mature
After Lex Luthor defeated Superman, after the courts declared him innocent, after CADMUS rose to power, 16 year old Kara Danvers went into hiding. Five years later, a chance encounter with L-Corp CEO Lena Luthor throws her back into everything she's been running from.
Kara is a refugee. Not enough that she lost Krypton, she is also the sole survivor of her (foster) family - except for Alex, but she has not seen Alex for years.
There is a satisfying ending when the story has been told just enough. There are hints what will happen next, and the story could have been much longer, but it ends in a satisfying place to feel enough, to feel complete. What I loved about this story is that despite the very bleak premise and sad moments, it can also be very funny - with a dry humor that I really enjoyed, and it can be very sad. This story is a great AU, brilliant and very well written. I loved it.
Favorite Quotes:
She gets the job, she finds out a few days later, but she’s pretty sure her amazing interview skills have nothing to do with it. They give it to her because her last manager wrote her a reference letter in which he described her as, “ridiculously strong - you can send her to deliver cement bricks and she’ll just hoist them onto her shoulder and go,” and because when they asked if she was willing to use her own car for deliveries she said yes.
Joke’s on them. Kara does own - and currently live in - a car, but it’s not what she’s planning on using for deliveries.
It slowly dawns on Kara that maybe she hadn’t just been blowing Craig’s question off with a joke earlier, that she might have stumbled across the right answer to it. It’s becoming clear that Lena didn’t invite her into a trap - she might actually have invited Kara back into her office just to show off her ass.
Well. That’s unexpected.
B) Fluffy/Happy Close to Canon AUs
1. The Three Weddings and a Supergirl Reveal AU
Something Borrowed by janewithawhy ; @janewithawhy
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
3 Chapters, 50k words (completed)
Published: 2017-2018
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Three weddings and the two women who attend them.
Kara attends two weddings with Lena and one she attends as Supergirl. I loved the scene in which Lena rescued Supergirl from dancing with an obnoxious drunk guy. We also get to see some a glace into Kara's time at middle school and Lena's time in university
I liked how Kara and Lena dance around the SG reveal for two weddings and then this culminated in one of my favorite - maybe my favorite Supergirl reveal scenes. (I did not include it in the favorite quotes below, because I do not want to spoil it).
A very well written story. Domestic and fluffy, with some very funny moments
Favorite Quotes
“Auntie Joannie says you’ve met Supergirl,” Carla said, ignoring Kara in favor of Lena. “Is that true?”
“Yep,” Lena answered, popping the syllable a little. She needed Kara to stop fidgeting, except that it was… hilarious. Supergirl’s Identity Outed by 9-Year-Old Flower Girl. Lena had no plans on seeing that headline in the paper anytime soon.
“Is she tall? She looks tall on TV. Is she nice?” Carla sat up, focusing intently on Lena.
Lena chuckled, almost too amused by the situation. She put a finger to her lip, thinking in that exaggerated way people do while talking to children. Kara was wringing the tablecloth between her hands and Lena was almost sure she heard the linen rip.
“Well, we shared a glass of wine and I just found out Kara is Supergirl; and it’s only half past 2.” Lena quipped.
Eliza’s eyes went wide and she put a hand to her chest, clutching slightly.
“Kara is Supergirl?!” Eliza asked, incredulous and breathless, bracing herself against the countertop.
“Oh shit.” Lena felt her face heat up immediately and then Kara was bursting with laughter and Eliza’s face returned to a small, knowing smile, and Lena knew that she’d been had.
“Have you been sitting here waiting to make that joke?” Kara asked, halfway to crying from laughing so hard.
“Only a little,” Eliza said.
2. The Tinder AU
Swipe Right for a Super by eluigih ; @cheddarlight
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
5 Chapters, 13k words (completed)
Published: 2017
Lena Luthor matches with Supergirl on tinder and she’s convinced that she’s being catfished.
Lena decides to try tinder - just to relax. For fun...
Wonderful and hilariously bad Super pickup lines. Sweet and funny. Very well written. I enjoyed this story a lot.
Favorite Quote
She shudders when she stumbles across her secretary’s profile, swiping left as fast as humanly possible. As much as she considers Jess a valuable employee, perhaps the most loyal, she just can’t bring herself to go there. She needs someone forgettable, she needs a face she’s not going to see every morning as she walks to her office and Jess definitely doesn't fit the bill.
3. The One in Which Lena and Kara Meet Doing Charity Work in a Soup Kitchen
Charity by cautiouslyoptimistic ; @forlornlyoptimistic (deleted old link)
Charity by cautiouslyoptimistic (new link, reposted)
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)

for someone so skeptical of others, lena can't seem to shake off the inconvenient way kara makes her feel or, lena finds her trust issues just don't extend to kara
A great, sweet and fluffy fic. Not very Supergirl centric.
4. The One with the Quickest Supergirl Reveal Ever
In Plain Sight by MsSirEy, sten06 ; @mssirey @stennnn06
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)

What happens when Supergirl inadvertently blurts out her real name when first meeting the sister of Earth's most notorious alien hater? Fluff, friendship and deeper feelings, of course.
One of the least angsty Supergirl reveals. A well written, lovely and sweet story. I liked it a lot.
Favorite Quote
“Oh for Rao’s sake, Kara! What are we doing?” Lena exclaimed, her frustration bubbling to the surface before she could process it. Kara froze, her eyes wide, before a huge telling smile broke across her face.
“I….what did you just say?” Kara asked with a bemused expression.
“What are we doing?” Lena snapped, eyes flashing in a panic, desperate not to have to repeat herself. She didn’t think she had the words to explain this beyond vague intentions.
“No...I thought I heard…” Kara raised her eyebrows curiously. “Did you just say Rao?”
“Oh…” Lena bit her lip and paused. “Yeah, I guess I…. did…” She felt the blush creep along her cheeks as she processed what she had done. It was just another way Kara had crept into her life and made herself at home, and Lena hadn’t even noticed. She stifled a grin, before shaking her head. “Anyway, that’s not the point. Kara, seriously, what are we doing?”
C) Angstier / Angsty AUs
1. The one in which Kara fears that she has ruined the Danvers’ lives
And I'm waiting for the sun by ifyouresure ; @ifyouresure
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe); diverges from canon after 2x08
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
1 Chapters, 24k words (completed)
Published: 2017
Kara doesn’t tell her about the hologram of Alura, about the spy beacon she keeps hidden in her night stand, perpetually glowing, waiting for the touch of its twin, but she says, “Sometimes, I talk to them. My mother and her sister – my aunt. Just about my day, my job, my friends and family. It’s ...” “Cathartic,” Lena supplies. Kara was going to say ‘comforting’, but doesn’t correct her. “Sometimes,” Lena whispers, “I talk to Lex.”
(Much later, Kara will think of Lex, still alive, sitting in maximum security, and wonder what Lena meant.) or A lot can happen in the space of a year; Kara and Lena know this better than most.
Apart from Kara and Lena moving from friends to lovers this story deals with several heavy themes: in particular loss and grief - and the meaning of family.
Lena is struggling with her, family which she had so desperately wanted to lover her, a brother and Mother who are trying to kill her and the obligation she feels to atone for their sins.
Kara who had already felt abandoned and now is deeply troubled after finding out that her father was responsible for the genocidal Medusa virus. In addition to the loss of her entire planet she feels the weight of being the last Kryptonian.
But most of all the central focus of the story is that Kara fears that she is responsible for ruining the Danver's lives. After she came back from earth one - where she found no Supergirl, no Kara, but a happy Danvers family (with Jeremiah alive) and an Alexandra Danvers who is living a normal and happy life as a doctor - without her - she fears that the Danvers and especially Alex would have been better off without her.
Considering all of these heavy themes, there are pretty undramatic Supergirl and Guardian reveals.
Despite these themes and a Kara who is a bit less of a ball of sunshine as she is portrayed in many other fics, for me this did not feel like an overly angsty fic. I enjoyed this well written fic.
Favorite Quote
“Lena said you and Maggie are sweet together, by the way,” Kara says. “I guess she could tell.”
Alex hums. “Funny, Maggie said the exact same thing about the two of you.”
Kara splutters incoherently.
“There isn’t a single person in this city whose life I haven’t disrupted simply by existing, by being who I am. Believe me,” and here Kara laughs a little, “believe me, I know. I’ve seen how their lives panned out when I wasn’t there to change them, I’ve seen how happy and fulfilled my foster family, my own sister, are without me.” Kara doesn’t explain how, and Lena doesn’t ask. “And I can only believe Krypton exploded with me on it, or maybe it didn’t. Maybe I’m still there, with my own family. Maybe I’m on Earth, ruining the lives of another.”
“They’re happier, for having you in their lives,” Lena says with conviction, leaning forward. Kara almost smiles.
“Tell me something,” Lena says, and Kara remembers the nightmares she had as a child, how Alex brought her back to Earth every time.
“Shrimp legs freak me out,” Kara says instantly, to a crazed little laugh from Lena. “I wanted to study astronomy once, when I was younger. I haven’t had a real conversation in my own language with another living person in years and, sometimes, I worry that I’ll ...” Kara doesn’t say anything for a time. “I paint portraits of home.”
2. The ultimate Mon-el hating fic
Lifestyle Choice by kellsbells
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
8 Chapters, 34k words (completed)
Published: 2018
Rating: Mature
Warning: Homophobia from a friend, Gaslighting, Emotional Abuse (read the intro and the full tags on AO3)
"I'm sorry, Kara. Are you implying that because I am attracted to women, that I deserve this kind of intrusive attention?" Lena asked, incredulous. Kara gaped at her for a moment. "No, but... I mean, you must be used to it, with your lifestyle and all?" Okay. This conversation was definitely over. Lena squeezed the bridge of her nose between her finger and thumb. Lifestyle?
From nowhere, Kara comes into Lena's office complaining about a magazine article which portrays the two women as a couple. Apparently her recently-returned boyfriend, 'Mike', is incensed at the implication and pushes Kara into talking to Lena about it. This leads to a rift between the two friends until some new information comes to light, changing both of their lives forever.
This is probably the ultimate Mon-El hating fic.
I am not really sure why I enjoyed this story, why I could not put it down. This story deals with a lot of topics and themes that I usually don’t like / enjoy reading about. But I think the way the author managed to achieve this is by stopping at the place, by moving on exactly the right moment. When more would have been too much (for me).
The conflict and rift between Lena and Kara is difficult to swallow, but the author pulls it of. Kara starts losing faith in Mon-el at the moment where it would have been intolerable had she stuck with him longer.
It is well written story. It is angsty and a bit dark, but I did not feel that it was that angsty. But do mind the trigger warnings.
Favorite Quotes
“Could I?” Lena asked, pointing at Kara’s stash of potstickers. She didn’t normally eat this much, but it had been a really long day. Kara handed them over absently, and Lena ate a few before she realised that Kara had just voluntarily given her potstickers. She was eating potstickers that Kara Danvers had given to her.
Kara nodded, head dropping, and then she left. Lena stared at the door for an eternity after Kara left, wondering how she was supposed to handle her own feelings for Kara along with the pain that Kara had caused her personally, and the shit that Mon-El seemed to be pulling. She was worried about Kara, worried about how much Kara could hurt her, and worried that Mon-El was going to completely destroy the sweet, caring person that Kara had always been.
D) Fake Dating / Fake Relationships
1. The Ultimate Fake Marriage / Witness Protection AU
I'm with you no matter what by spacemanearthgirl ; @spaceman-earthgirl
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
14 Chapters, 46k words (completed)
Published: 2018
"Lena’s life is threatened and the DEO urges her to go hide in a small town (in or out of the country) where the name Luthor won’t mean anything, and Kara of course goes with her bc that’s what (superhero) friends are for. So that’s how they end up fake married in a small town and fall in love for real. Or realize they’re already in love?"
Embedded into a few Lex is trying to kill Lena elements (nothing too graphic) this is a very light, fluffy and domestic story. Apart from the Lex pieces not a Supergirl centric fic. Winn arranging their fake identities as a married couple, including the rings.
This fic has everything: Witness protection / protective custody, fake marriage, friends to lovers. And my favorite trope: Kara listening for Lena's heartbeat. Bonus: Lena worrying that Kara might hear her heartbeat spike.
A wonderful, very well written story. Loved it. I especially loved the rings thing
Favorite Quote
Kara is well aware that this look usually works on Lena, it’s kind of embarrassing how easy one look from Kara can make her fold, make her change her mind about what takeout she wants or what movie they’re going to watch, but running is where she draws the line.
“That’s not going to work this time,” Lena says, reaching out and lightly tapping Kara’s cheek with her hand.
She watches Kara deflate in front of her, pout firmly set on her lips in a last ditch attempt at what Alex calls her “kicked puppy” look.
“Go have fun with the kids, I’ll watch you from here.”
Being alone doesn’t help, it only means the extra brain power she was using to look like she was listening to Jess can be used to think about Kara instead.
This is bad, her company is important to her and she’s not going to be able to get any work done until she talks to Kara.
2. The Fake Dating AU with a Dash of Amnesia
A fiancée for Christmas by kellsbells
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
11 Chapters, 44k words (completed)
Published: 2017-2018
Rating: Mature
Alex is, as always, being hounded by Eliza about Kara's life. In particular, her personal life. Alex blurts out a lie on a whim, pretending that Kara is engaged, and begs Kara to go along with the lie. Kara mentions the situation to her very platonic friend Lena Luthor, who offers to step in. Hijinks ensue. A gift for the lovely Ganewhoo.
Fake dating AU with a twist, little bit of unconventional amnesia (they sleep together relatively early - drunk - and Kara cannot remember because alien alcohol). There is a good bit of background Sanvers, also we see more of Alex than Maggie. Also nice Lena and Eliza bonding.
This is a well written story that I enjoyed. A it but not a lot of angst
Favorite Quotes
“I don’t think Lena is oblivious,” Maggie said, shaking her head. She turned to the side again, rubbing her lower abdomen. “Kara has no idea, but my god, the heart-eyes!”
“I know! Every time they do that staring thing, I get this urge to play spin the bottle or seven minutes in heaven, you know? Like, wake up and smell the gay!” Alex said, snickering.
“I’m proud of you, Danvers,” Maggie said. “You’ve graduated from Lesbian Academy with top points in gaydar and detection of unresolved sexual tension.”
“You know, dear, I think we should bring back the practice of carrying handkerchiefs around. That way, I wouldn’t have to see you drooling like that over my daughter’s admittedly impressive musculature.”
“Oh my god,” Lena said, hiding her face in her scarf. Yes, she was wearing a scarf, and Kara was wearing a tiny two-piece bikini. “You are way too okay with embarrassing me, Eliza.”
E) Unconventional Families
1. The One in Which Instead of Mon-El a Small Girl Came to Earth in the Pod

Lena casts her mind around for the last time she felt this unmoored, this off-balance, by a woman, and can't come up with anything. Kara Danvers is unlike anybody that Lena has ever met; the sweetest, bubbliest person Lena’s yet to come across, and simultaneously one of the saddest, who is probably lying to everyone that she meets. It’s an impossible contradiction to wrap your head around, and Lena should probably stop hiding in this bathroom and trying. (Or, Kara and Lena get parent-trapped into a relationship by a goofy little alien.)
As with any AU there is a "what if". What if Mon-El was so many things he was not on the show. An interesting character? A girl? What if instead of Mon-El we got a sweet nine year old girl in Season two?
Thankfully apart from the final showdown that takes some elements from season 2’s final episodes, there is little retelling of the show.
I love how Lena deals with her suspicions that there is something not quite right about Kara and Myka. The interaction / dynamic between Lena / Kara and Myka is wonderfully written, heartwarming and often funny. Their relationship develops so naturally and sweet.
There is a very nice Supergirl reveal and the story has a meaningful and satisfying end. There is nice background Sanvers and Alex plays a relatively big supporting role in this story. She is also written superbly and her interaction with Kara, Lena and Mayka add a lot to the perfection of the story. In fact there are some of my favorite Alex & Lena scenes outside of Alena/AgentCorp fics.
This is a wonderful, long and very well written story that I loved. The relationship between Kara and Myka and food plays a central part in the story and it is very cute.
The author has already used by favorite quote in the "official" summary (above) but I have one more to share:
“We should have ice cream for breakfast.”
“No,” she laughs, reaching for her phone. “We should not.”
“Kara will say yes if you ask her,” Myka whispers, looking over and realizing that Alex and Maggie are still asleep.
“Kara, is not a good role model to base your relationship with food after,” Lena counters.
2. The One about Wishes Coming True, with a Dash of Groundhog Day
The Fifth Wall by Black_Tea_and_Bones ; @blackteaandbones
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
28 Chapters, 109k words (completed)
Published: 2017-2018
Rating: Mature
Kara goes to bed with Mon-El, and wakes up with Lena Luthor.
But it isn't Kara’s bed, and they’re not in Lena’s apartment, and that is definitely not their baby... Right?
What if your wishes come true? Even wishes you had never spoken, not even admitted to yourself? What if powers beyond Kara and Lena‘s comprehension had conspired to push them together, to literally marry their fates together. And to throw in a little girl for good measure, a girl that is apparently their daughter. But all of this can’t be real, or can it?
There is a suspense arc that concludes satisfactory, some canon compliant violence and a bit of angst, but overwhelmingly this is a beautiful love story and a kid fic.
We slowly see Kara and Lena’s relationship developing I loved every minute of it. This is an epic and beautiful story that is very well written.
While Mon-El is mentioned in the author blurb, thankfully he plays practically no role in the story: he has only one or two scenes (in one of which we get a good laugh on his expense).
While there are a few scenes with the Superfriends, this is a very Lena and Kara centric fic.
Favorite Quotes
Lena shrugged. “Well, I may not have much experience with children, but toast and juice are well within my capabilities. Though I have to ask... What are sucks, and why aren’t we having any of them?”
Kara took a minute to catch up. “Oh, socks.” She snorted. “She refused to wear any.”
“Stubborn,” Lena noted with a smirk. “I wonder who she gets that from?”
She was alone.
Any lingering doubts Lena may have had about how little she actually wanted her old life back died a sudden and inevitable death in that moment.
It wasn’t the worst thirty seconds of her life, but it was close.
That was about how long it took her to realize she was overreacting. Nothing had changed. She was still in their bed, in their bedroom, in their apartment. The half-empty glass of water Kara had left on her bedside table last night was still there, and when Lena sat up she saw Kara’s pyjamas hanging over the side of the laundry basket. The only thing missing was Kara herself.
F) AUs in Which Lena Is Tempted by the Dark Side
1. The Evil Overlord List AU
Lena Luthor, Evil Overlord by Rhino (RhinoMouse)
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe); sort of but not really evil!Lena
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
10 Chapters, 23k words (completed)
Published: 2017
Warning: read the author’s intro
Somebody has to take out the trash and Lena decides it might as well be her. If the hero's won't do what needs to be done she will, after all she is a Luthor. And if turning to the dark side involves separating Kara from her douche of a boyfriend? Well that's just a happy coincidence. But if she's going to be evil she's going to do it right by following some simple rules. No insane laughter and impractical super weapons for her. No she's going to avoid the pitfalls of lesser villains and she'll do it with style.
This AU is a bit different than most SuperCorp AUs. It features a slightly alternate Lena that is written very believably. Jess is done well and gets a slightly larger role than in most fic.
A well written and funny AU that I enjoyed. It is probably more a comedy than it is a SuperCorp romance story.
Note: If you do not know about the Evil Overlord list, then look here. Highly recommended.
Favorite Quotes
“But Lena’s never cared about her safety and suddenly she does?! And what if she gets hurt!” Kara protested.
Alex held up her hand. “You think Lena might be going evil and your concern is that she might get hurt?” She stared at her sister incredulously.
“Well obviously she could never be properly evil, it’s Lena. But what if she tries to become a megalomaniac like her family?” Kara pointed out. She put her hands on her hips, she needed to protect her friend and they just weren’t getting how serious this was. “Her latest project is laser attachments for sharks!”
2. The One in Which Lena Is an Art Thief
The Birth of Venus by lostariels ; @lostariels
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe); sort of but not really evil!Lena
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
3 Chapters, 13k words (completed)
Published: 2017-2018
When Supergirl finds herself in Italy after an earthquake, Kara decides to take a detour to Florence to see the famous painting the 'Birth of Venus', before returning to National City. At the Uffizi Gallery, she catches the eye of another visitor at the gallery, a fellow art lover who's at the gallery for more than just looking. The next morning the Birth of Venus is reported to have been stolen, and no one knows who took it, until over a year later when Kara finds out why her girlfriend just so happened to be at the gallery that day.
What if Kara (who is Supergirl) falls in love with a Lena who is an art thief? This is a very interesting take how Kara deals with the fact that her girlfriend is a criminal. Not (really) Evil!Lena, but rather a lover and thief of rare paintings.
With this theme it could have easily been an angsty fic, it is not. It is a well written AU that I enjoyed.
3. The One in Which Originally Lena Is Willing to Help Lex and Lilian
Real by cautiouslyoptimistic ; @forlornlyoptimistic (deleted old link)
real by cautiouslyoptimistic (new link, reposted)
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)

Published: 2017
lex and lillian recruit lena in their plot to end the supers, but lena finds herself more preoccupied with kara's smile than she is with her family's plans or, lena falls in love with the one person she wasn't supposed to
At first Lena is willing to help Lex and her mother, after all this is how she was raised. Lena's struggle between supporting her families' plan and falling in love with Kara is a different take on SuperCorp but done very believable.
An excellent story that I liked a lot. Very well written from Lena's POV
G) Stories in Which One of Them Dies (Most have a Happy Ending)
1. The Brilliant Fic in Which Lena Dies - a Lot
Lena dies on a wednesday by karalovesallthegirls ; @karalovesallthegirls
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe), angst with happy ending
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
1 Chapters, 18k words (completed)
Published: 2018
Rating: Mature
Warning: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death
Lena is trapped in a loop, reliving the day she dies over and over again. She just doesn’t know it.
Yes, there is angst and suffering, but considering that Lena dies many times in this fic it is not super angsty and this is not primarily an angsty fic.
There is a unique blend of angst, drama, romance and humor: The author manages to put all of this together brilliantly and on top of that a somewhat absurd and crazy plot that is consistent and polished.
It somewhat reminds me of Groundhog Day and the brilliant Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Cause and Effect, but with substantially more punch - there is quite a difference form seeing a ship explode and experiencing Lena’s death several times from her own point of view.
Brilliant and beautifully written, fast paced, concise and polished. There is nothing that could be cut away. It’s a full novel plot in less than 20k words. Amazing - one of my favorites. I knew there would be happy ending, but otherwise I never expected where the plot was going, got surprised again and again.
Favorite Quote
The only word to describe the look Kara gives her at that is ‘devastation’.
“I’ve watched you die a hundred times, Lena,” she whispers.
Lena can practically see the weight of guilt pressing down on her dearest friend.
“Is that why you wanted us to run away?” she asks, instantly struck by the horror at what she might have done before on those other Wednesdays.
2. The One in Which Lena Does Not Actually Die (but Has Powers)
Destruction (sometimes means rebirth) by BloodInTheFields ; @blood-inthefields
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe); Lena has powers; Angst with happy ending
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp) (f/f)
20 Chapters, 36k words (completed)
Published: 2016-2017
There’s not much that she can do. The heat, she doesn’t feel. She walks through the flames and uses her x-ray vision to spot any survivor, but there’s nothing. Only devastation. or, in which Kara loses Lena, but does she really?
Lena is presumed dead after a bombing of LCorp tower and Supergirl couldn’t save her.
There are angsty chapters, miserable Kara is done very well and I really felt with her pain and grief. There are some very nice, romantic and fluffy chapters at the end - and also some funny scenes.
I was a bit worried that Lena's abilities were too much and made her overpowered, but the author handled it well. I enjoyed this well written story a lot.
Favorite Quotes (spoiler: Lena is not a shape shifter)
“What the hell is going on? Who is this,” Alex hisses, pointing toward the bedroom door that Kara has closed behind them.
“This is Lena Luthor, Alex. You’ve seen her before,” Kara deadpans, arms crossed against her chest.
Kara, where did you find the shape-shifter? This isn’t healthy for you! I didn’t even know you were into Lena Luthor like that!”
3. The Really Sad Reverse Black Mercy Fic in Which Kara Grieves for Lena

Warning: fake suicide
Kara goes through trauma like no other.
Kara is grieving for Lena in a kind of reverse black mercy.
This is a very sad and angsty, beautiful and powerful story - with happy ending. A well written short one from Kara's POV.
4. The Really Sad Fic (with Happy Ending) in Which Lena Grieves for Kara

Lena goes through tragedy, one she'd never thought she'd experience.
Lena is grieving and coping with Kara's death. A sad, well written and angsty story - ultimately with happy ending.
5. The brilliantly sad fic about love, living and dying
remember me, and let the love we have live on by civilorange ; @civilorange
Setting: Supergirl TV 2015 (DCU), AU (Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor (Supercorp); background Kara Danvers/Cat Grant (SuperCat) (f/f)
1 Chapter, 9k words (completed)
Published: 2018
Rating: Mature
Warning: Major Character Death
You close your eyes and pretend it’s tomorrow. “Promise me you’ll be okay?” “Aren’t I always?” There's nothing glad about it, nothing happy. // or: Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor through the years.
This fic is basically Lena’s life in 9 k words and it will probably make you cry - It is amazing that one of the shortest stories has the broadest scope. This story also deals with the fact that as Kryptonians live very long, Kara will outlive her lovers.
There is SuperCat in this fic, but as the fic is told exclusively from Lena's POV we do not really see it.
There are two things that I usually not that fond of in stories: second person narrator and Major Character Death. But this is a brilliant, very well written story that won me over. Highly recommended.
Favorite Quotes
“Telling you I’m Supergirl isn’t—it isn’t just telling you I’m Supergirl. It’s telling you I’m Kara Zor El, it’s telling you I’m the last of my kind because my cousin doesn’t even remember Krypton, it’s—it’s—I liked being just-Kara around you.” She’s crying—but not—they’re in the lashes of her blue, blue eyes and you don’t know how you never noticed that they’re the exact same shade. Blue, on blue, on blue—with a little bit of stardust in the black of her pupil.
You’re angry, you are, but you like being just-Lena around her, too. You like pretending that you don’t go see your brother every Thursday, you don’t like reading every death threat sent to you in the mail—you don’t like being an idea before you’re a person. You’re angry, but you understand.
“You don’t beat time, sweetheart,” you tried, damn did you try, but there was only so much your human body would allow. “But we had a run, didn’t we?”
Ninety years together in one way or another—forty more than you probably should have had, but you are Lena Luthor after all. Reality was fifty percent what you made it. Ninety years, sixteen planets, three universes, and a pretty epic story—if you do say so yourself.

In-Character Interview
Rules:
1. Choose a character
2. Answer as them
3. Tag 5 people!
I consider myself tagged by @allisondraste because yes.
I will probably be returning to this later on because, honestly... I have too many OCs and love to talk about them all.
I’ll tag: Uhhhhhh I don’t actually know how tagging works?? (RIP me). An also I feel like I’m so late to this that everyone has done this already, so... I’ll tag whoever wants to be tagged! Because honestly that’s how I ended up doing this so might as well, right? Spread the OC love! <3
Elisse Cousland is up first~!
What is your name?
"Elissora Eleanor Valerie Margaret Cousland! Or, um, Elisse for short. Yes, Elisse will do just fine! Honestly...”
Do you know why you are named that?
"Father had a penchant for overly long and complicated names, I suppose? I do notknow, to be honest. Fergus likes to tease that he, Aedan, and I were all named this way so our first initials spell FAE, but... That cannot be true, right? Right?”
Are you single or taken?
"Umm both? Maybe? I am uncertain. It’s... a tad strange, being in a relationship with a spirit-- Ah, former spirit, sorry Cole! Still, I would not trade him for the world. Whatever the state of our relationship, I am quite content with it.”
Have any abilities or powers?
"I can shoot really well! It’s funny, I picked up a bow after the whole ordeal with Arl Howe because it reminded me of Mother, but after a while I felt... empowered? Yes, that is the word. It feels good to be able to protect yourself for a change, and protect others, too. I will not be a child in need of a rescue again.”
Stop being a Mary Sue!
"Why, I would never! What has Mary done to you, anyhow!? You leave her alone this instant! If you have a bone to pick with me, that is one matter, but I will not have you dragging some poor girl’s name through the mud! Humph!”
What’s your eye color?
"Blue. Mother used to say that mine looked like a calm midsummer lake, while Aedan’s looked like ice. ...Fergus has brown eyes. Teehee.”
How about your hair color?
"Hazel brown, thank you very much! All Couslands are brunettes, though I happen to have the lightest shade of hair between my siblings. Too much time spent in the sun, Mother used to say.”
Have any family members?
"Plenty! Is... what I would like to say, but at this point... It’s just Fergus and me. He’s doing rather well with his new wife, so maybe there will be more little Couslands running around soon? It would be lovely to hear children’s laughter in the old castle.”
How about pets?
"Leo offered to give me Aedan’s old Mabari, Pup, but somehow that doesn’t feel right. He chose her as his new master, you know? I wouldn’t want to break that bond. But she did promise me a puppy as soon as the new litter is born, so hopefully someday soon!”
That’s cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don’t like.
"Tight spaces. Dungeons. Fire... Those things bring back some bad memories. I’m sorry.
Also, Queen Anora. I really, really hate Anora. Humph.”
Do you have any hobbies/activities that you like to do?
"I practice my archery skills quite often. Sometimes Sera and Varric join me, and Mahariel showed me a few neat tricks that one time. Other than that... Pulling pranks with Sera is quite a bit of fun, though it does get us into trouble a lot... I spend much of the remaining time in the infirmary. I may not have magic, but my first aid skills have improved considerably since I joined the Inquisition.”
Have you ever hurt anyone in anyway before?
"I... hope not. I’ve tried my very best to leave no reason for anyone to be upset with me, and yet... I am certain there is someone, somewhere, who was hurt by something I - or the Inquisition - have hurt. Inquisitor Adaar says it’s unavoidable, but still, it’s not a pleasant thought.”
Ever…killed anyone before?
"Yes. Out of necessity only, and never out of selfishness or greed. I will not allow myself to sink to the level of Howe and his men.”
What kind of animal are you?
"A hawk. Aim far, strike fast, spread your wings and fly away from things that hurt you.”
Name your worst habits.
"I, uh, may stick my nose where it does not belong... I just can’t help it! What if someone is hurting and I don’t know about it? What if someone is upset at me!?”
Do you look up to anyone at all?
"Oh, plenty of people, of course. I am still young, still inexperienced, and thus I have much to learn from people greater than me. My parents and my brothers were my greatest source of inspiration growing up - and still are, in many ways. Warden-Commander Amell is another, and so is Inquisitor Adaar, and the Hawke twins, and Lady Vivienne, and Dorian, and... Oh, but I’m rambling, am I not. Sorry.”
Are you straight, gay, or bisexual?
"Neither. I am proudly asexual, thank you very much. After everything that happened to me in Howe’s dungeon... I think I would prefer to relationships of the mind and soul, and not the body.”
Did you attend school?
"When I was a girl, I was taught by Aldous, the old historian in my parents’ employ. After the Blight, Cousland sent me on an exchange program to a girls’ school in Orlais. The education was... decent, but the company rather horrid. They thought me strange when I refused to wear a mask and went out to practice my archery! Hmph! Stuck-up aristocrats!”
Ever want to marry and have kids some day?
"That’s... I know it’s expected, me being a noble and all, and if Fergus cannot produce an heir then it will be up to me to fill that role, but... I would rather not. Have kids, that is. At least not at this time. There is too much turmoil in the world, and I would not want my children to suffer the way my brothers and I did simply because the world is not a kind place. As for marriage... Maybe, someday. I admit, the thought of walking down the aisle in a while gown does make my stomach fill with butterflies...”
Do you have any fangirls/fanboys?
"Do supporters of the Inquisition count? I know those are not strictly mine - if anything, they cheer most for Inquisitor Adaar and Felandris - but still. I have received several offers of marriage recently, but those hardly count, no?”
What are you most afraid of?
"Sometimes I think that this is all a dream. That one day I will open my eyes and I’m a little girl again, alone in Howe’s dungeon. Except this time, Leo doesn’t come barging in through the door to rescue me, and my brother doesn’t kill the Archdemon, and I will just die in that dungeon, without anyone ever knowing where I am or what became of me...”
What do you usually wear?
"If there is anything good about Orlais, it’s their scout uniform. It’s so sleek and yet so practical!”
What is one food that tempts you?
"I would die for just one more taste of Nan’s home-cooked pig roast. No one makes it quite like she used to.”
Am I annoying you?
“No, of course not! What would make you think such a thing?”
Well it’s still not over!
"I’m ready and willing to answer all your questions!”
What class are you (low/middle/high)?
"Technically, the second highest after the King and Queen. The Cousland family is quite renowned, and quite close to the Crown, after all. Especially after all Aedan did to save Ferelden from the Blight. We live in a castle, we have servants - all the typical assets of a noble family.
“But as for myself, I would like to think I can live a middle-class lifestyle quite well. I don’t much care for the fanfare and ceremony of the upper class. Especially the Orlesian upper class. Ugh.”
How many friends do you have?
"Good question... Does the entire Inquisition count? They are all such good people, and they have been so kind to me this entire while... And of course there’s Leo, and Alistair-- er, King Alistair, and all of Leo’s Warden recruits, and... even Teyrn Loghain, I suppose. Okay, I know he supported Howe and what he did to my family, but still... He died a hero. And that’s what counts. Aedan believed in him, I think, so I will too.”
What are your thoughts on pie?
"Mmm, pie... Oh, dear me, I didn’t mean to drool!”
Favorite drink?
“Lemonade! It’s so refreshing in the scorching heat of summer.”
What’s your favorite place?
"Back in the day, there was this tree in the back of Highever Castle. The branches up high were bent in a weird way, almost like shelves. I used to climb up there and watch the servants scurry around trying to find me for hours. Aedan was the only other person who knew about how I hid up there, and he used to sneak me snacks and random things to play with. It was almost a second room to me.
“Nowadays, I like to sit on the roof of Haven. Watching the Inquisition members from up there is just as entertaining. Aedan is gone, of course, but... Sera and Cole bring me snacks now.”
Are you interested in anyone?
"W-Well, I...! Maybe...? It’s... quite complicated, but... A-Ahem, might we change the topic, please?”
That was a stupid question…
"Aww, don’t feel bad! It was a cute question! i’m just... not good with being caught off-guard, you know?”
Would you rather swim in the lake or an ocean?
"A lake. I’ve done so quite a few times when visiting Redcliffe, too! The ocean, on the other hand, looks quite terrifying, and far too deep for me to ever hope to find a foothold. What if it carries me off? I am quite fit, but not to the point of being able to swim for days!”
What’s your type?
"The slim kind with feathers at the tip to silence its movement through the air! You look confused. We are talking about types of arrow, aren’t we?”
Any fetishes?
"Nope. End of topic.”
Camping or outdoors?
"What fun! I can run around outside for hours! Or, at least, until I trip over something, or a branch whacks me in the face... But I do love to camp.”

The Piano Duet (NaLu Piano AU One Shot)
Hello! This is my first time doing a complete first person story on here, so this is some practice. Feel free to give me pointers, they’re very welcomed. I don’t know how much you guys will like this, I’m a person who likes music so I kinda wrote this for an audience of a bunch of me’s lol, but I hope you enjoy :)
Of all the pianos in the deteriorating mansion, this one was the only one that was in tune. It's a miracle, to be honest. No one's stepped foot into the building for 72 years. The piano definitely looked its age, but its sound rivaled any piano I've ever played before.
We were on a mission. The owner of the mansion wanted Natsu and I to explore this place and figure out if there was anything valuable or dangerous. His great-grandfather owned it and passed it down to his son, but his son abandoned the mansion for unknown reasons. The place had an abnormal amount of instruments. It made my little musician heart soar. I've never even seen some of these instruments before. Though the opportunity to mess with all these different kinds of instruments was in front of me, I chose to do what I always do, what I love. Play the piano.
So here I was, on the rickety bench that probably could collapse any second, playing old tunes my mother taught me. The melancholy melodies filled the massive room. After a couple songs, I decided to play Moonlight Sonata, a classic piece which almost everyone had heard of. I messed up here and there. My mother didn't teach me this song. I was too young to learn that difficult of a piece at the time. She would always play it though, for it was her favorite song. I would stand by her, watching her slender fingers dance on the keys, leaving me in awe every time. When she passed away, she was buried to the tune.
Avoiding a mission isn't something I typically did. I, Lucy Heartfilia, am very committed to my work. The problem today, however, was my partner, Natsu Dragneel. Our second year anniversary just passed, and it wasn't as romantic as either of us expected. Instead of a candlelit dinner followed by romantic snuggling and declarations of love, there was fighting. Argument after argument after argument.
Natsu wants to get married.
I do not.
Now that I think about it, he had every right to get angry. He opened himself up and was willing to take a big leap in our relationship, but I shot him down in a heartbeat. If the roles were reversed, I'd be pretty pissed. Doesn't change the fact that I'm not ready to be a wife, though. Moonlight Sonata ended, next up: the piano duet from the Corpse Bride. (Author's Note- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qaMcImrNnOQ If you haven't seen The Corpse Bride, you might wanna watch this clip or at least hear the song. It's less than 2 minutes long and will help you understand what's gonna go down in the story better.)
"Of course you'd be here, playing the piano. Bet you've found the best one in the house." I heard Natsu speak behind me, but I didn't acknowledge it.
"Lucy, we can't keep ignoring each other. Let's talk," he tried to reason, but I remained speechless. I wasn't in the mood to talk about our feelings, and even if I was, I wouldn't know what to say. There were so many pent up worries and emotions, but so little ways I could think of expressing them.
"Fine," Natsu huffed. "If we won't talk, let's play." He waited for the right moment. When it was time, he played Victor's parts of the duet perfectly, without missing a beat. For an aggressive guy, he played gently. I played my parts, but my eyes were trained on his fingers. They didn’t move with the same grace and elegance as my mother. It was as if his cautious fingers feared damaging the sturdy piano keys.
The song came to its end. Silence replaced the ballad. Eventually, Natsu decided to break it. “I won’t push for us to get married, Lucy. I get that you don’t want to. I just don’t get why. I know you, and the excuses you gave me the other day were complete bogus.”
“Fine, wanna know the truth?” I spoke with more spite than I intended. “I’m scared I’ll do to you what my mother did to my father. My family was ruined. My father took it so hard, that his entire lifestyle changed. Drowning himself in work was all he could muster up the will to do. My mother was forced away from me. My father left me on his own.” My voice shook with conviction, throat heavy with tears.
“I lost everything!” I snapped. “If we have kids and I die, I couldn’t rest in peace. I would put you in the same pain that my mom put my father in. My children would go without a mom. Just thinking about it pains me. The worst part is, my mother died from lethal illness. If I was to go the same way, there would be no way for me to stop it. I’d have no control. I would live every day in agony, knowing that I couldn’t stop the havoc no matter how much I wanted to.” Hot tears streamed down, but nothing was more scalding than the thoughts of what might become.
“I love you too much.” My voice quaked. Natsu wrapped his arms around me, bringing me to where I felt most safe and protected. Soon enough, Natsu began crying as well, but there were only a few tears. For him, that was a lot.
“Yay, cryfest!” I joked, trying to lighten the intense mood I may have “accidentally” set. Frankly, it was nice to have the truth off my chest.
Natsu laughed, the same laugh that I’ve always adored. “Oh I love you so much Lucy, I can’t express it in words. Not just cuz my vocabulary sucks.” I rolled my eyes, but my smile gave me away.
“Seriously though, Lucy. Those are some pretty good reasons to be scared about getting married, I’m just gonna be honest. But isn’t that what marriage is about? Taking risks? Putting complete trust into not only your partner, but into future’s hands?”
“Since when did you get woke?”
“That’s a story for another day.”
I sighed. “All jokes aside, you’re right. I’m still scared, though.”
“I know,” he responded, taking my hands into his, “I am too. Take your time, I’ll wait for all my days until you’re ready to get married, if that day even comes. Doesn’t matter if it’s in 40 years.”
“Natsu, you misheard me,” I retorted. “I said I was still scared, but...Natsu Dragneel, I agree to your proposal.”
His face lit up in glee. “Wait, really?!” He shrieked with content surprise. With the speed of a leopard, he whipped out a tiny black box from his pocket. He opened the box, revealing the beautiful ring he had custom-made. The smile never left my face as he slipped the ring on my finger, making our engagement official.
“This is gonna be the greatest wedding ever. We are going to be relationship goals, Lucy,” he gushed.
“We already are relationship goals, Natsu, duh.”
“Well being married is kinda like the final stage. Or is that having kids? We should just straight up morph into each other.”
What the heck? “How does that very disturbing image have anything to do with relationship goals?”
“Perfect unity and synchronization.”
“I’m starting to regret this,” I groaned.
“No take backsies!”

RWBY Musings #46: A Smaller, More Honest Soul. Is Ruby Rose the key to stopping Salem once and for all?
@stuck-up-snowflake asked“ I've seen your thoughts and theories on Oscar Pine's future character growth and I personally agree with them!
But I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Ruby's personal growth for the future volume(s), considering that there are many fans clearly bothered by the fact that she hasn't had any sort of character development since the first 3 seasons or so(?) compared to Weiss, Blake, and Yang. If you had already addressed this, I would love to see that post about it. Thank you! “
Squiggles Answers:
@stuck-up-snowflake
Salutations Snowflake! Firstly, let me thank you for reading my musings. I’m happy that you read the ones on Oscar, because those were some that I enjoyed writing the most, and that you even agree with them. That’s awesome!
Now to answer your question. Well I did share one or two theories for Ruby’s story arc before. I believe it was in RWBY Musing #18 where I shared an unpopular opinion about wanting Ruby and Oscar to both be captured by Salem’s forces only to daringly escape and then be forced to survive the trek through Salem’s Domain; depending only on their skills and each other as they try to escape the Grimm-infested wasteland and make their way back to their friends.
To be honest, I haven’t really shared much about Ruby beyond shipping related stuff. But since you asked me and I’ve had more time to ponder on it, I do have two main hunches for her character.
Disclaimer: This is yet another LONG musing post folks. Ya’ll are probably used to this from me by now but out of common courtesy, I still feel it necessary to give you the usual heads up.
Crimson Spark
My theory is that Ruby Rose is the aforementioned key to everything. From the start of the series, the narrative has placed great emphasis on the importance of hope and how mankind’s greatest strength lies in their ability to derive power from their sentiment. The way how I see it, Ruby has two major roles in the upcoming story. As the fragile peace Ozpin and his forces so desperately fought for ions to uphold is tethering to its breaking point, like Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Ruby will become the Crimson Spark---a symbol to inspire humanity and reignite the flare of hope in the masses during such dire times in Remnant as an impending Second Great War looms around the corner.
Beyond that, Ruby is the key to finally ending Salem and possibly the Grimm too, because of her hidden power as a Silver Eyed Warrior. The next chapter in her story arc would involve her learning what that means as she trains to hone her skills as the last living Silver Eyes; a title that I believe holds a much deeper symbolism with its connection to the Creatures of Grimm that the series has yet to enlighten us on.
A Rose By Any Other Name
Before I get into the meat of my post, let me just say this here. Not to sound nitpicky but when I consider it, I don't understand why the CRWBY Writers felt the need to even make Ruby a Silver Eyed Warrior in the first place.
Did they really need to introduce this concept into the story lore? Especially since they then followed up with two whole seasons that barely gave any further insight into it. When you think about it, there really wasn’t even any actual build up to Ruby possessing this kind of power in the first place. We get one throwaway line from Ozpin in the very first episode of the series and that was the closest thing to introducing Ruby’s eyes as some special trait that we got until V3. Almost as if the writers themselves are still planning out what this power will mean in the long run of the story.
But Ruby was already established as a good character before the series decided to slap her with this mystical power she allegedly inherited from her deceased mother.
Ruby was endearing, somewhat fearless, a bit ditzy at times which added for some genuinely funny moments with her, loyal but most of all what makes Ruby so great is her willingness to help others and how much her drive to become a strong huntress fuels her every decision.
She may not be the strongest or smartest. She isn't exactly a perfect rose. Even the most perfect rose has thorns.
As Ozpin so rightfully stated in V5 Chapter 5, Ruby has her fair share of faults that may cause her to falter at times but beyond those quirks, she also possesses something unquantifiable. She has an inspirational spirit and charm about her that is able to motivate those around her in ways that managed to even impress an old soul such as Ozpin who has probably met a ton of inspirational folks in his lifetime. But none as unique as Ruby, apparently. And as an audience member watching this, it is this trait that truly makes Ruby a good protagonist and a good hero to me.
Each time Ruby gives a speech that forces the villains to question their motives; I kinda wanna stand up and give her a small salute for being a true trooper I mean it ain’t the brightest move to make in the heat of combat. But it does display Ruby's humility. She wants to understand the people she meets and this even includes the villains.
Some folks might find this annoying about her personality but it's why I like her. The best kind of heroes to me aren’t the ones with a lot of power or brains but those with a lot of heart. Now Ruby isn’t the first hero character to display this kind of virtues. She’s isn’t the first humble, hopeful hero with a heart of gold that is able to connect with others that I’ve stumbled across in my favourite media. But dammit, I’ll be lying if I said I’m not a sucker for those types of heroes.
In a way, why I like Ruby as a hero is for the same reason I adore Steven Universe. At this point, you might as well make a drinking game out of how many times I compare RWBY to Steven Universe.
Steven and Ruby are both the type to want to understand others. This same trait can also be said of Sora, the hero of my favourite videogame of all time: Kingdom Hearts. It's that level of compassion for their fellow men that warms my heart about all three of these young heroes. While Ruby wasn't as sociable in the beginning, she eventually came out of her shell and started communicating and forming bonds with other characters.
The story building up Ruby as the kind of huntress who chose this career path because she wanted to help others was already great from the start. This selfless need to do your duty for the well being of others is what made Ruby a great heroine.
Since Ruby mentioned wanting to become a huntress like the heroes in the bedtime stories from her childhood, I wonder if there’s any particular book or fairytale that Ruby loved as a kid that first inspired her love of heroes?
Was there ever a moment where Summer Rose used to read Ruby those same fairytales of heroes and monsters too? The interesting part about Ruby is that she wanted to become a huntress despite her mother perishing from this lifestyle. You would think that her beloved mother being killed as a huntress would deter a young Ruby Rose from pursuing this similar career path.
Imagine...if Summer Rose started reading the fairytales to Ruby first and young Ruby’s desire to become a huntress stemmed from a combination of aspiring be like the heroes of her favourite stories and her mother, her hero in real life who was living the dream she longed for?
Imagine... if once Summer passed away, for a while, Ruby lost her drive to become a hero and it was actually her big sister Yang, picking up one of the old stories Summer would read to her sister that brought Ruby out of her slump.
Perhaps it was Yang who renewed Ruby’s ambition to become a hero, reassuring her that Summer wouldn’t have wanted her death to cause her to be any less courageous than she already was at such a tender young age.
Summer and childhood fables may have ignited Ruby’s inner spark but it was the support of those who loved her, like her sister that has kept that spark burning, making her believe in heroes once more.
I actually want the story to touch upon just how far would Ruby go to be a hero. In V3, Torchwick told Ruby that if she wanted to be a hero then she should do her part and die like every huntsman and huntress throughout Remnant's history.
‘...Ya got spirit Red. But this is the real world! The real world is cold! The real world doesn't care about spirit! You wanna be a hero? Then play the part and die like every other huntsman in history!'
If it boiled down to the point that Ruby needed to sacrifice her life to save Remnant, would she be willing to do it? No trickery from others trying to deceive her into believing this resort is the only way to put an end to things. But of her own free will, would Ruby Rose give her life to save the world? Would she give her life to become the hero she desired to be and what the story has been foreshadowing her to become in the long run?
Will the story ever play with the concept of Ruby becoming so broken that she loses her resolve and gives up being a huntress entirely?
After all, even the most optimistic of heroes eventually go through a breaking point that tests their belief in the things they’re fighting for. The question is, will Ruby Rose ever go through such an obstacle?
I know Ruby gave that magnificent speech about moving forward to Oscar in V5 Chapter 5 but, I don’t want to be naive and assume that that’s the writers’ way of slapping her with impenetrable plot armour that shields her from facing any kind of true struggle.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Ruby hasn’t suffered loss or faced any kind of emotional hard ships throughout the current story because she has as evidenced by the past three seasons. But has she hit a low point? Has Ruby Rose hit a low point in her story arc that has backed her into a corner, challenged her as a character...maybe even changed her in a way that differs than how she was when the series first started? Made her question her own self? Forced her to question her own motives and outlook on the world? Perhaps even scarred her, both physically and emotionally for life? Has she? I don’t think so. Not yet at least.
Of the four main members of RWBY, Ruby herself is the only one to have not suffered a low point.
For Weiss, her low point was being dragged back to Atlas; back to the frostbitten, lonely cage that her tyrannical father had a built around her---a sheltered yet domineering life she had willingly abandoned the first time in order to forge her own path only to be sadly taken back there following the events of V3. For Blake, her low moment was returning to her old habits of running away; leaving her loved ones behind despite promising that she wouldn’t instead of staying and fighting with and for them.
And for Yang, her low point was when she had lost her fire---lost the thing that made her who she was and had to learn to pick herself back up after going through an immense lost---not just physically but mostly emotionally after watching everyone she knew leave and move forward without her during a time when she may have needed them the most.
When her teammates’ heads were forced down under the weight of their own troubles, Ruby was the only one to keep hers up high and look towards a brighter outcome even if things seemed bleak at the time.
Even when her team was divided, her school and previous home fallen into chaos and the deaths of former comrades still fresh in her memory, through it all, Ruby was more or less the one to remain hopeful and keep moving forward.
Even in the face of loss, Ruby has never lost her spark. But how long can that spark truly last though?
The Unsolved Murder of Summer Rose
At first I figured that Ruby’s story will involve her learning more about her lineage but what I didn’t realize is that there is an underlying mystery to Summer’s death.
What do we know about Summer Rose? Well according to Yang during the events of V2, she described Summer as being a wonderful mother to both Ruby and herself, despite not being her biological mother. Summer was portrayed as being a warm and caring person, no different that her daughter Ruby. In terms of a career, Summer was a huntress just like Tai Yang who took on missions around the Kingdom of Vale while Tai doubled as a teacher over at Signal Academy. One day, as Yang justified, Summer went on a mission and never returned.
That’s the only explanation we have for Summer’s death. That she left for a mission one fine day and the next thing everyone knew, she was dead. And that’s all we’ve known because that’s all the story has disclosed thus far.
But doesn’t that make Summer’s entire death sound odd? There are so many questions that arise from this unfortunate circumstance.
What were the details Summer’s mission? Where exactly did she go? Who delegated that specific mission to Summer Rose? Was it a case where she went off on said mission and upon returning met her unexpected demise? Or was the mission in fact a ploy to lure out the key target: Summer Rose in the first place?
How did Summer die exactly? How was she killed? Was she ambushed by an onslaught of Grimm and died valiantly in the line of duty or...was she slaughtered in cold blood by an unknown assailant? Was it a combination of both where Summer was laid in wait against an army of Grimm, in a similar fashion to Ruby Rose during the VI Red Trailer; and by the time Summer had finished taking out the monsters, her strength was too depleted that she could’ve barely defended herself against the assassin sent to kill her.
If Summer was indeed killed, then how was she found dead? Who found her dead? How did the other learn that she had died? Was Qrow sent to find her after she hadn’t returned from her mission and discovered her corpse? Or did the two run into each other while on their respective missions and Qrow happened to have been present during the time when Summer was attacked?
This brings me back to one of my previous questions. Who gave Summer that particular mission? Was it Ozpin? It would make sense if it was him since according to Raven Branwen in V5, Team STQR were basically Ozpin’s go-to team during their years at Beacon and it wouldn’t surprise me if each member, with the exception of Raven, kept on doing missions for the old wizard well into their adult years.
After all, Qrow still performed private missions for Ozpin so it wouldn’t surprise me if Summer was also involved with him at some point in that regards. So, if that’s the case, does Oz know the truth about Summer’s death?
Did he have a part to play in its occurrence and has been sitting on that secret from Ruby and...perhaps Tai Yang and even Qrow as well?
There is no doubt that being a Silver Eyes means something important in the plot and will play a detrimental part in the next stage of Ruby’s development as she delves deeper into the origins of her mysterious powers and its purpose.
By learning more about the Silver Eyed Warriors, Ruby will in turn uncover the truth about what really happened on the day her mother died and why she was targeted. She’ll learn how Summer was killed and more importantly, she’ll learn who killed her mother.
How exactly does one kill a Silver Eyed Warrior? If the Silver Eyes are unstoppable against the Grimm, mankind’s greatest threat and adversary next to Salem, that means that Summer must’ve been a very powerful huntress. So how was she taken down?
Ruby will learn how this all happened and once this is out in the open, how Ruby chooses to react to this news will hint at another subplot for her character arc. Possibly avenging her mother by defeating the one solely responsible for taking her mother away.
As I mentioned in my last RWBY Remarks, the show itself has unfortunately done very little to actually demonstrate how much Summer’s death has affected Ruby emotionally. The only times we’ve been given some semblance of the harsh reality of Ruby’s feelings surrounding her mother has been in the OST, Red like Roses Part II and I even heard that the RWBY Red Like Roses manga, which is Ruby-centric, gives more insight on that as well.
It is alleged that Ruby was devastated; perhaps even broken by her mother’s passing. I really wish the show would show this kind of emotion from Ruby. We’ve heard Yang’s perception of Summer Rose. I want Ruby’s now. I want flashbacks of Ruby together with her mother. According to the lyrics for Red Like Roses Part II, it definitely hints that the mother and daughter shared an unbreakable bond that was only thwarted by her passing.
Remember how in Avatar the Last Airbender, during its third season, it touched on an episode where Katara got to avenge her mother by hunting down the Fire Nation general, then retired, that caused her death. From this development, she was able to finally put to rest her feelings of anger and resentment over what the Fire Nation did to her, her mother and their people of the Southern Water Tribe, and in doing so, learnt to finally understand and trust Zuko as he joined Team Avatar.
Perhaps RWBY will take a page from Avatar’s book and give us a similar story. A story where Ruby, desperate for answers surrounding her mother’s death goes in search of answers and this journey brings her much closer to understanding things about her mother that she didn’t as a child. Such as her reasons for committing the actions she did leading up to her death.
‘...I know you’re broken down by anger and by sadness, You feel I left you in a world that’s full of madness, Wish I could talk to you, if only for a minute, Make you understand the reasons why I did it.
I wanna tell you that you’re all that ever mattered, Want you to know that, for eternity, I’m shattered, I tried so hard just to protect you, but I failed to, And in a prison of abandonment I’ve jailed you...’
Perchance, in her searches, Ruby learns something along the lines of, Ozpin being partially responsible for what happened to her mother. What if... Ruby ends up blaming Ozpin entirely for what happened to her mother and all the pain she endured from losing her mother to his schemes. Ruby then loses trust in Ozpin and in turn, this puts a big damper on her relationship with Oscar.
Seeds of Doubt
As a RoseGarden shipper, as much as I’m anticipating the two becoming a couple sometime later in the series, I also expect that their relationship wouldn’t come without its fair share of complications. Not just from Oscar’s shared body and mind with the old wizard but more so for what Ozpin’s previous ties with Ruby’s mother can bring up.
I have a hunch that Ozpin had some involvement with what happened to Summer and for the RG-shippers, if the two young heroes were a couple at this point, this is the kind of thing I would expect to cause them to either break up entirely or at least put an uncomfortable strain on it. More so than Ozpin’s presence just presiding inside of Oscar.
Imagine how detrimental it would be if Ruby discovered that Ozpin caused it all. He was the one that sent his mother on the mission that eventually killed her. After hearing so many lies masked as clever excuses, Ruby would reach a point where she’d grow tired of Ozpin’s guilt. After all, how much genuine remorse can one truly feel from the consequences of their past crimes if they keep returning to the same poor methods?
The RWBY OSTs sung from the perspective of characters distrustful of Ozpin, like Sacrifice (RWBY V2 Credit theme) and Divide (RWBY V3 ending credit theme) almost seem to mock Ozpin, bringing to light the cruel penalties of what his actions have cost those who chose to follow him blindly out of an obscure sense of loyalty.
These themes paint such an ugly portrait of the darker impressions to Ozpin’s character and what starkly contrasts this is the way how the characters surrounding Ozpin, such as our heroes, still continue to trust him despite learning of some of the skeletons from his pasts. Our heroes still place their trust in Ozpin. More notably, Ruby still trusts Ozpin.
But, what would happen if the silver-eyed girl did lose this trust? I’d imagine that if any other character should begin to distrust Oz, conspiring a divide and mutiny amongst the team, Ruby would be the one to turn in order to rebel against this; serving her purpose as the Crimson Spark to convince the others to rethink their feelings about Oz.
However; what if...Ruby’s the one to first have misgivings about following Ozpin and it is her own distrust that slowly begins to sow seeds of doubt in the others. It would be the complete opposite effect to the character Ozpin had been wordlessly breeding her to be which would make for a nice twist. Wouldn’t it be quite interesting if Ozpin had been so concerned about Salem being the one to snuff out his spark of hope that ironically, he becomes the culprit to do it himself?
And in light of this, if Ruby loses hope, then who would be the one to reignite her trust in Oz? Would it be Oscar? Poor Oscar would be caught in the middle of it all. If Ruby shuts Ozpin out then that in turn could spell her shutting Oscar out.
After all, whether they’re lovers or close friends at the point of this change, it would be discomforting for Oscar to know that Ruby only trusts half of him. Volume 5 established how Oscar now thinks as Oz and himself as one being. He and Oz are now like Eddie Brock and the Venom Symbiote. Instead of he. They are we. We are Ozpin.
And due to their joint partnership, to Ruby’s dismay, Oscar might not be too quick to take her side all the way. On the contrary, Oscar might oddly remain loyal to Ozpin because in his heart and mind, he both knows and emotionally understands the truth behind what Ozpin did with Summer. He may even try at times to convince Ruby to hear the truth from his perspective. However it would be a truth that Ruby would unfortunately not want to hear. Not even in his words because she’d be too blinded from the pain of knowing that a man she trusted so much sent the most precious person in her life to her grave for a cause that he had acknowledged time and time again was all his doing.
I think having Ruby, of all people, lose fate in Ozpin would be a nice turning point in the story. Up until this point, Ruby has always been very trusting of Oz because he’s shown to be the one teacher from Beacon who’s shared the most interaction with her; secondary to Dr. Oobleck in V2.
From their very first encounter to their conversation at the ball to even their momentary exchange of dialogue in Chapter 10 of V5 when he was OZ-Car, Ruby and Ozpin have always been in good standings with one another. Even when the other has faltered. But what if that is shattered.
Seeing Ruby lose trust in Ozpin, which in turn causes a rift in her relationship with Oscar (y’know technically half of Ozpin) but then slowly learn to regain her fate in him through Oscar would be nice. I want for a moment where one of Ozpin’s many mistakes finally causes him to break down. I want to see him react to it in a more emotional way. Meaning, I wanna see Ozpin cry. I want to see him really, really torn up about a mistake he’s made.
Up until this point, the impression that I get is that Ozpin has made so many mistakes that he’s almost numb to the emotional consequences of it all. This doesn’t make him uncompassionate. On the contrary, Ozpin does care a lot but I imagine that he’s been wearing his mantle as protector of Remnant for so long and has faced so many years of trials and tribulations that at this point, he’s become somewhat detached even in the face of true loss.
He’s so used to putting on a brave face and remaining calm to maintain his optimistic disposition and fairly naive perception of fate in humanity, that he’s lost sight of his own emotions in a way; if that makes a lick of sense.
All living things have thoughts. We all have things that come to our mind and possess the understanding to comprehend the positivity and negativity in those said thoughts. But what is the element that exists within mankind that drives us to comprehend the difference between the good and bad?
The answer is our feelings.
It is our emotions that work hand in hand with our thoughts to help us to fully grasp the world around us. What makes the difference is that some people are driven more by their thoughts and simply commit the first action that come to mind where as others are driven more by their emotions, going with the flow of things depending on what feels just in the moment rather than whether or not it’s rational.
In the case of Professor Ozpin. He’s worn so many faces---both literally and figuratively, that you can say he’s almost forgotten how to, I guess, feel. Don’t get me wrong, Ozpin isn’t unnaturally stoic. He’s not a robot. He has his moments of feeling but there usually kind of short-lived, replaced by a more solemn undertone.
This is why I appreciate the contrast in personalities between Oz and Oscar. In my opinion, Ozpin thinks more with his mind---he’s intelligent, tactical and more careful in his actions because he bares a deeper understanding in the value of everything including how actions can cause ripple effects that can prove either rewarding or catastrophic.
Oscar, on the other hand, based on what I’ve observed about him so far, thinks more with his heart. He’s definitely more emotional than Ozpin, usually trusting his gut even if those feelings may lead to senseless actions void of proper thinking. Remember what Oscar told Ozpin when the two finally left his aunt’s farm? I find it interesting that when Oscar finally succumbed to Oz’s influence, his sole justification was, not because he thought it was the right thing to do, but because it felt like that it was the right thing to do.
‘...Y’know, the weirdest part is how it feels. Leaving home is crazy. Going to the city is crazy. Everything you’ve told me is completely crazy. But it doesn’t feel crazy anymore. It feels like I’m doing the right thing...’
Another clear example is during Oscar’s fight with Hazel. Despite Ozpin begging him to let him take over because it would’ve been the smarter move, Oscar refused to do so. Why? Because in the moment, he wasn’t thinking with his head. He was thinking with his heart. Even though the smarter option would be to let Oz, the more experienced soul, handle everything, Oscar rebelled against this choice because in the moment he felt he needed to prove himself---to prove to Ozpin that he can fight on his own without him even if it wasn’t not the wisest option.
Not to sound harsh with Oz’s character, but I’m anticipating a future episode where the full weight of everything he’s done over the centuries will all come crashing down hard on him and for the first time, he breaks down over it.
Perhaps he needs a jilting tongue lashing from his smaller, more honest soul to put him in his place to realize the truth of what he’s done---all that he’s done---not just to her but to Summer and everyone else who’d fallen victim to his past blunders.
A Whole New World
‘You're special Ruby... And not in the 'Daddy loves his special angel' kinda way... You’re special the same way your mom was. Remnant's full of legends and stories. Some of them true, some made up.
...But there's one Oz told me a very long time ago... Back before huntsmen, before kingdoms. It was said that those born with silver eyes were destined to lead the life of a warrior. You see, the creatures of Grimm---the most fearsome monsters mankind had ever encountered---were afraid of those silver-eyed warriors. They were the best of the best. It was said that even a single look from one of these fighters could strike a Grimm down.
It's a ridiculous story...'
According to Qrow based on what Ozpin told him, the Silver Eyes existed before the huntsman and the kingdoms and were feared by the Grimm. Do you understand how deep that is? The Creatures of Grimm; monsters that have existed since the dawn of Remnant’s humble beginnings and are a known symbol of fear were afraid of the Silver Eyes.
The Silver Eyes sound like a power that has existed long before even Remnant. As a matter of fact, this makes me think of something interesting. Readers, do you all recall what the very first line muttered in RWBY was?
' ...Legends; stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains; forgetting so easily that we are remnants, by products of a forgotten past...'
By products of a forgotten past.
Could the forgotten past that Salem was alluding to back then, a past involving the Silver Eyes and the Creatures of Grimm?
Think about it. The Grimm were created as a result of the God of Darkness’s desire to obliterate all the wonderful and beautiful things his brother had created in his new world. So did the God of Light create the Silver Eyed Warriors to counter the Grimm?
Were the Silver Eyed Warriors in fact the first group of beings to walk the World before mankind was born?
Did The Grimm and the Silver Eyes then waged war against each other? A war which destroyed the First World in the process. Was the war between the Silver Eyes and the Grimm, a symbol of his and his brother’s conflict, destroying the very beautiful world he sought to protect what inspired the God of Light to cease this divergence and call a truce with the God of Darkness so that the two could salvage what was left of the Firstborn World?
Suppose...the shattered moonscape that we commonly see in Remnant is what’s left of the First World that was ultimately destroyed by the war between the Grimm and the Silver Eyed Warriors. Though it was never confirmed by Qrow in his rendition of the Tale of the Brother Gods that they recreated another world together that became Remnant, it would make a lot of sense if Remnant is actually a broken piece of the First World.
And it is this broken piece...this remnant that the brothers then decided to populate with mankind---their first collaboration. Seems legit, am I right?
Though mankind was a symbol of the Brother Gods’ harmony, leftovers of their previous feud still managed to makes its way into Remnant in the form of the Grimm returning to be mankind’s greatest adversary. However, just as the Grimm survived into Remnant, so did a piece of the Silver Eyed Warriors.
While not as prominent as the Grimm, this tiny legacy of the Silver Eyed Warriors still managed to thrive in this new world down through the ages to its current successor---Ruby Rose.
It all makes sense now! If my theories here are proven correct then everything we’ve seen thus far regarding Remnant, the Grimm, the Brother Gods and the connection with the Silver Eyes will all make perfect sense if they’re all connected. But that’s only if I’m proven right.
If my assumptions are true then this would explain why there are no more living Silver Eyes and why only someone like Ozpin, who has lived many lifetimes and was probably the First Man of Remnant, is the only one to know of their existence.
It’s because the Silver Eyes were before the current Remnant. They were probably created as beings to counter the Grimm. For all we know the Silver Eyes weren’t practically human. Just raw light in the shape of something human, if that makes sense.
But unlike the Grimm who survived and relished in the current Remnant, the Silver Eyes probably all died out during the First War against the Grimm. It’s why they’re only just a story. A tale. A legend lost to time.
Or...possibly...there could actually be more Silver Eyes still thriving on the moon we see in Remnant. I once made a throwaway comment about there being a connection between the moon and the Silver Eyed Warriors. Perhaps what we perceive as a moon is in fact the original world of the Silver Eyes. I stand by my hunch that the Remnant Moon is actually the God of Light’s first attempt at a perfect world that got wrecked as a result of his and his brother’s greatest creations clashing in their conflict.
Either way, the Silver Eyes were an ancient race. An ancient force from a forgotten era where they were the sole protectors. An ancient force that Oz probably learnt of after the Gods first cursed him and it is such a power that he discovered reborn in the likes of Summer Rose and eventually her daughter, Ruby Rose.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
‘....I never planned that I would leave you there alone, I was sure that I would see you when I made it back home, And all the times I swore that it would be okay, Now I’m nothing but a liar, and you’re thrown into the fray.
This bedtime story ends with misery ever after, The pages are torn, and there’s no final chapter, I didn’t have a choice; I did what I had to do, I made a sacrifice, but forced a bigger sacrifice on you...
I know you’ve lived a nightmare, I caused you so much pain, But baby, please don’t do what I did, I don’t want you to waste your life in vain...’
The lyrics to ‘Red Like Roses Part II’ really got me thinking. When I first listened to it, I thought the song was implying that Ruby had witnessed her mother being killed as a child and had suppressed those memories from childhood. Now in reading through the lyrics, this song implies so much more that I didn’t realize. It implies a lot about the internal conflicts Summer went through as a mother and a huntress as well as foreshadowing the true nature of what the fate of a Silver Eyed Warrior really is.
The song is written with words that give me the impression that perhaps Summer was the one who introduced Ruby to fairy tales and used to read them to her when she was a little girl before Yang took over after she passed away. The lines that got me the most were ‘I didn’t have a choice. I did what I had to do. I made a sacrifice but forced a bigger sacrifice on you’.
These lines are meant to be seen from Summer’s perspective, right? These are her feelings as she’s singing in response to Ruby’s or at least that’s how I’m going to look at it.
What did Summer mean by she didn’t have a choice? Is she talking about her fate? Is this line foreshadowing a darker fate for the Silver Eyes?
Is it implying that it is the duty of a Silver Eyed Warrior to die and it is a fate they cannot run from?
It would make complete sense if Summer Rose was sacrificed to stop Salem. What if that was her last mission.
Like what if...Summer’s final mission was to go to where Salem was and use her Silver Eyes abilities to put an end to Salem. Since Salem is technically what seems to be a Grimm-human hybrid and has been believed to be unstoppable for years. Perhaps the closest key to stopping her would be the power of a Silver Eyed Warrior.
So when Ozpin found Summer, he believed her to be his one shot at stopping his arch nemesis once and for all. I believe that Ozpin gave Summer her final mission and sent her after Salem to put an end to her. But the plan didn’t work out the way Ozpin had hoped.
What if...Summer was originally Ozpin’s chosen one. The key piece in his plan to finally ending his greatest adversary. But Summer failed Ozpin. I don’t even think it was a case where the Silver Eyed power didn’t work on Salem either. Perhaps even Summer Rose was inexperienced in her abilities as a Silver Eyed Warrior and when the time came for her to use it for the cause she’d be fighting for, she failed and was killed in the process.
Her sacrifice was in vain because Salem is still alive. And now that it’s been realized that Ruby has the same power, she too is probably heading for a similar fate.
Hence the line, ‘forced a bigger sacrifice on you’. The bigger sacrifice being that Ruby must now pay the repercussions of both her mother and Ozpin’s failures. Summer Rose couldn’t fulfil her destiny to stop Salem and now that burden has been unwillingly passed on to her daughter as the one living Silver Eyed Warrior left standing.
I think it is Ruby’s fate to stop Salem once and for all with her Silver Eyed power. But what will make Ruby different and far superior than her mother is that she will fully realize the potential of her abilities and learn to hone it in ways her mother never did.
Did Ozpin force Summer to go on that mission? Was Summer an inexperienced Silver Eyed Warrior? Was she no different than Ruby was in V3? Did Ozpin, out of his desperation to stop Salem, send Summer to complete the job believing that she was ready. But as it turned out, he had been over his head and Summer was unable to use her power in the time it was needed?
Y’know what I wonder about the Silver Eyes? Imagine if Summer’s powers were at its peak when she was younger but the moment she became a mother, she lost half of her power’s strength as it was unknowingly passed on to her daughter during childbirth. If Summer Rose attempted to face Salem at only half the strength, it would make sense for her to lose since her power wouldn’t have been at its most potent. This is just me trying to give justification to my own throwaway hunch. Was Summer reluctant about facing Salem but Ozpin baited her with the promise that they could finally put an end to Salem; using the love Summer had for her own daughter to push her into going into a battle she was doomed to lose from the start? To the Ozpin fans reading this, sorry if I might be painting your guy in a bad light here. It’s just that I really feel there is a connection tying Oz to Summer’s death that’s not going to be pretty once uncovered. Other characters have accused Ozpin of being both deceitful and arrogant; among other not-so-nice adjectives. I’m just still waiting here for the show to prove it with moments of the past that demonstrate these negative traits about him. I think there could be one that ties Ozpin to Summer’s death. I strongly believe there is a hidden moment in Oz’s past where he allowed his own desperation and pride to get the better of him and he messed up big time by sending one of his greatest assets/allies to her grave. But who knows.
Fallen Angel
‘...Close your eyes now, time for dreams. Death is never what it seems. Take things you thought you should, All the things they said were good...
All your faith in ancient ways, Leaves you trapped inside a maze, Take the lives of those you need, Sow the death and reap the seed.
Reap the seed! Born an angel, heaven-sent Falls from grace are never elegant...’
What if...in the past, Ozpin was meant to nurture Remnant’s first Silver Eyed Warrior reborn into the new era and his failure in stopping Salem began with her.
In the OST Sacrifice, Ozpin was described as an angel. Of all the things that Oz could’ve been compared to, why an angel of all things? Was Oz’s original role to be the Guardian Angel of Remnant’s first Silver Eyed Warrior? To teach and help them hone their powers so that when the world falls prey to the darkness again, they would be ready to fulfil their destiny to save it.
Was that it? Was a Silver Eyed Warrior reborn into the new world of Remnant and it was Ozpin’s job, as First Man, to nurture and guide her. Let’s say, all things considered that the Silver Eyes were all primarily women. And this Silver Eyed Warrior was a young girl and as her godly appointed guardian, Oz possibly shared a relationship with said girl akin to that of a big brother or even father figure. Think Terra and Aqua from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep withVentus or Garnet and Pearl with Steven from Steven Universe.
The Gods probably foretold Ozpin about another Silver Eyes to come in time and he probably spent years searching for her. He was probably beginning to lose all fate when he found Summer Rose. Summer Rose was probably the first Silver Eyes Oz encountered in years and following many lifetimes of fighting an immortal, unbeatable foe, he found his trump card in Summer Rose---another Silver Eyes.
However, Summer ended up making the same mistake as Ozpin did years ago. She too ended up failing in her mission to stop Salem. It’d probably be easier to assume that Ozpin was once a Silver Eyed Warrior himself in a past life; probably even his first life. I like the concept of Ozpin originally being born as both the First Man to walk Remnant but he could just have easily been a Silver Eyes as well.
It would make his failure to stop Salem in the past and his descent from power even greater. Imagine being the sole person born with the power that could’ve ended the greatest evil known to Remnant. But then you fail your mission and die only to be brought back in another life, completely void of that all important power. It would be interesting if in addition to working to reform the world; Ozpin also spent countless lifetimes simultaneously searching for another Silver Eyed Warrior---the only being with the power to stop Salem. I like the idea of Oz being an Silver Eye for this particular reason.
However I don’t want to jump too much on this theory bandwagon because Oz being a Silver Eyes in his past life could additionally spell Ruby unwittingly being a descendent of his. I’d rather not have that. I much prefer the concept of Ozpin formerly being a guardian angel blessed with the knowledge of the Silver Eyes, created to be the mentor and protector to Remnant’s first Silver Eyed Girl who he previously shared a close friendship with.
Could even play with the notion of Ozpin formerly being in love with a Silver Eyed Warrior . Would add for a nice parallel with history repeating itself as the same thing is happening with Oscar and Ruby. Just an idea to toss out.
Y’know what’d be cool too, though? If Ozpin, the First Man of Remnant along with the First Silver Eyed Warrior to be reborn in Remnant and the woman who was Ozpin’s Eve who ultimately became the vessel for Salem were all close friends at some point. I’m thinking something akin toTerra, Aqua and Ventus from Kingdom Hearts.
Salem’s former form---the Eve to Ozpin’s Adam who I dubbed her Ales in my musing on this topic; is Terra, the one who fell to the darkness and became the main villain of the story. This would make the First Silver Eyed Girl Ventus, the youngest of the three friends whose existence was the catalyst to everything meaning she was the reason why Salem’s original self was driven to darkness out of possible jealously for her bond with Oz and the reason why Oz was cursed in the first place. Lastly, Oz is Aqua, the only one left who must now try to repair everything.
Though my theory is that Salem’s former self used to be Ozpin’s lover and companion, I definitely love the concept of Ozpin’s best friend in his first life time being a Silver Eyed Warrior. And her demise at the hands of Salem; probably sacrificing herself to save him, was probably one of his first failures before he became cursed. I’m liking this because it’s a cool way to connect everything; tying both Ozpin and Salem sharing a history with a Silver Eyed Warrior whose origin can probably date back to the Dawn of the Creatures of Grimm and the destruction of the world whose corpse now hangs in the night sky as a permanent reminder to world of Remnant in the form of the moon. Though only theories, it kinda makes sense, right?
All in all, I’m banking on Ozpin becoming Ruby’s mentor for her Silver Eyed powers; hopefully. I mean, unless there are more Silver Eyes living in secret somewhere in or outside of Remnant, who else is it gonna be? He’s the only one that has any prior awareness regarding their existence as he was the one to pass this info onto Qrow. Whether he was originally a Silver Eyes himself or the appointed Guardian to them, I’m definitely anticipating Ozpin teaching Ruby about becoming a full-fledged Silver Eyes.
Not sure how much longer Oz will be in the story though. He is technically already dead and though his soul is attached to Oscar; we all know this is going to be temporary thing as Oz will fuse with Oscar someday. However, if Oscar ends up gaining Oz’s memories and thus the knowledge about the Silver Eyes then that could lead to moments of Ruby training with Oscar to control her power; further developing their friendship. I quite like that idea very much but again, these are all just my theories. Up to the series canon to prove me right or wrong.
So to conclude...
Whelp. This turned out longer than I was gearing for.
I know I shared some decent theories in this post but the gist of what I said can be boiled down to this. There is no doubt that the biggest part of Ruby’s journey will involve her learning more about her heritage as a Silver Eyed Warrior. I’m actually glad that the story hasn’t been focusing much on Ruby these past few volumes. I didn’t even notice for the most part and even when I did, it wasn’t that big of a deal breaker. I feel like the majority of the Beacon Arc was from Ruby’s perspective so it’s good that the Mistral Arc cleared the way to develop the other characters in the main and supporting cast.
Though the show is called RWBY and Ruby Rose is our main heroine, she isn’t the only character in the series. This isn’t just the Ruby Rose show. The other characters and their individual story arcs matter in hindsight as well and help to pave the way for the full narrative just as much as Ruby’s would.
However I do agree with folks that the story needs to start steering back towards rekindling Ruby’s story arc. It needs to have Ruby start asking questions about her lineage. I understand why they wouldn’t have Ruby ask more about the Silver Eyes since the focus of the story and thus Ruby’s focus has been protecting Haven from falling like Beacon. To be honest, Ruby asking about her powers during the events leading up the Haven Battle wouldn’t have been an appropriate time to bring it up regardless of whether or not us as fans wanted it to be that way.
However the time for that has come now. Now that the Battle of Haven has been won and the Mistral Arc is slowly drawing to its epilogue to spearhead the jump into the Atlas Arc, this will be a good time for the series to finally have Ruby desiring to learn more about her powers.
She did accidentally use it again during the Haven Battle. So I figured now that the pressure of defending another academy is out of the way, Ruby now has a clear head to think about other things. Like her powers. You guys have heard me voice before how much I strongly want V6 to just be another character building season where the volume’s main focus is to tell tales that would give focus to certain individual characters and allow for the story to flesh them out and answer unanswered questions the audience have been waiting to see.
Personally, I need V6 to set up the gang going to Atlas but not necessarily taking them there just yet. This will give the series a chance to give us episodes that develop the characters. This can give Ruby time to finally ask Qrow more about the Silver Eyes and/or discuss the implications of her power with other members of the cast.
Who knows? Maybe Ozpin isn’t in fact the only character to know of the Silver Eyes? Perhaps Oscar remembers his aunt or biological parents mentioning the Silver Eyes to him as a kid as an old Mistralian farm tale or perhaps Blake read about a character with Silver Eyes in a book series she read? Either way, it’s a chance for the story to make Ruby want to know more. It doesn’t necessarily have to answer everything right away cause I figured the key to learning about the Silver Eyes lies with Ozpin who I believe may be out of commission for V6.
What the Silver Eyes are. What it truly means to be one of these warriors. And what the past and final destiny for this race of beings and their descendents is still remains a mystery and I’m interested in learning what the CRWBY Writers has in store for us in that regards. Whatever it is, I just hope it’s properly written and the writers do a proper job at addressing it in the series, both literally and visually.
Until such a time comes to pass, I’ll just stand by my theories. As a Silver Eyed Warrior, I do believe Ruby is the key to putting an end to all this chaos. Her journey ahead---whether she rises up to the challenge or falls into despair will be what drives the major plot going forward. The story began with Ruby Rose debuting as a hero and it will surely end with her as the hero.
That’s my view on it. I hope this helps answer your questions Snowflake. Sorry if this answer was more padded than you’d probably expect. I couldn’t give you an honest response without unleashing pretty much every idea I had on mind about Ruby. You asked if I had any theories for Ruby’s story and I think this best summarizes all the ones I thought of. Any more, I’ll just share in future musings. Let me know what you think of this post if you can. In the meantime, as always I hope you and any other loyal reader enjoyed this musing and see you for the next one.
