Nightmare - Akira Nishikiyama

Summary: Tears filled Nishiki's eyes knowing whatever happens tonight, he may never see Kiryu again. October 1, 1995 was the last time he saw him.

A/N: An AU where instead of 10 years, it's 3 years. I can't say anything else because of game spoilers.

Chapter 2

A few years have passed since the incident that led to the death of the Patriarch of the Dojima family. He could still remember it like it was yesterday. Seeing Sohei's lifeless body sent shivers down Nishiki's spine. Although he did it to protect Yumi, the consequences for killing a higher-up could lead to severe punishment. However, his oath brother, Kiryu took the blame. Since then, Kiryu's whereabouts remain unknown for the next few years.

With Kiryu and Yumi missing, the isolation and depression swallowed Nishiki whole. For the next three years, Nishiki attempted to bury the incident with alcohol to escape from the guilt.

Reina was the only person around to provide him comfort from the unfortunate events.

Nishiki sat alone at the bar, sulking in his thoughts. The condensation of the alcoholic glass cup grew heavier the longer he didn't swig. He then glances over at the seat where Kiryu used to sit.

Reina returns from the break room in her casual attire.

Nishiki doesn't bother to look up. "I'm sorry for keeping you here longer." He mutters

"No need to apologize. Besides, I enjoy your company." She attempts to lighten the mood.

He finally grabs the glass and downs it in one gulp. The burning sensation in his throat causes him to cough a few times.

"How has everything been going with starting your own family?" She attempts to make conversation.

"It's nice and all, but it's been difficult." He pauses. The thought of Kiryu popped into his head, which caused a lump to form in his throat. "Everything's been a pain since Kiryu got caught. It's unlikely but it would be great to have Kiryu in my family once he's back." His voice trails. "I hope prison hasn't been hard on him." Despite Kiryu's whereabouts, he prays that the police got to him first than the Tojo clan.

She hums to herself. "I know it may not seem much, but I'm off tomorrow if you'd like to grab some food and maybe sing some karaoke. Something to take your mind off of things. My treat."

He smiles a bit to himself. It's been a long time since he's done something fun. Even if it was for a short bit, away from responsibilities for a few hours was what he needed. "I'll take you up on that offer." He looks up at her.

"Great. I'll call you tomorrow."

Not too long after, Nishiki leaves Serena for the night. He glances down at his watch, reading after 11 p.m. The bustling streets in Kamurocho didn't help as the alcohol slightly intoxicated his mind. The loud noises began to bother him. He wasn't quite ready to head back to his apartment just yet. Maybe taking the long way home, away from the crowds of people would help clear his mind.

The further he walked, the fewer people appeared around him and eventually, no one was around except him. The sound of the train whistling from afar and the soft chirping of crickets filled the quiet alleys where Nishiki walked.

Quiet nights like these are where he found most peace with. It reminded him of when he, Kiryu, and Yumi were younger. If only he could experience it one last time.

He was instantly pulled from his thoughts when he heard a loud crash not far from him. The noise startles him, causing him to go silent for a few seconds. He stood still. Maybe it was a cat? Then another loud sound follows.

"Hello?" Nishiki calls out. No reply.

A faint groan could be heard in one of the back alleys. Nishiki slowly walks towards the sound. The groaning grew louder the closer he got.

"Are you alright?"

"Help... please." The voice chokes out.

Nishiki's eyes widen. He runs to the sound where the voice cried out. Nishiki froze at the sight of the man. His blood ran cold.

The man's body slumped against the wall. Multiple large stabs scattered his torso, and his face was welt. He didn't budge. Another body lays out across from him. The corpse's head suffers from severe head trauma. Nishiki crouches next to the wounded man seeing the blood oozing onto the ground. The gold pin on the man's blazer indicated he was from the Majima family.

"What happened?!" Nishiki panics. "I'll get you an ambulance."

The man looks up at Nishiki with pleading eyes. Every word that tried to come out of his mouth was hard to understand. The man's eyes linger away to see a tall figure standing in the distance. The man lets out a harsh gasp and points.

Nishiki whips his head, and his body freezes once again.

"Ki-Kiryu?"

The rough and intimidating demeanor of Kiryu that Nishiki once knew was replaced with fury and madness. Scars scattered across his body. There was a small symbol carved on Kiryu's breast. Perhaps a family affiliated, but it was hard to tell who was responsible. Nishiki's heart sank at the sight of Kiryu. If he wasn't sent to prison, then he must have been sent to the hole.

"What have they done to you?!" Nishiki stands, taking a few steps back.

Kiryu takes a couple of long strides towards Nishiki. He glances down at the injured man and then at him.

"They took everything away from me. Striped my identity. Shamed me!" He grinds his jaw in anger. "I've been dubbed "The Patriarch Killer" all thanks to you." He growls. "I no longer carry the dragon on my back."

Kiryu briefly turns around to show was once a dragon, filled with delicate patterns and vibrant colors, was now severely burned and lacerated.

He walks over to the corpse where he bashed his head earlier, taking the dented bat from the corpse.

"I'm going to make sure your punishment was just as long as mine, kyodai." He spits.

Kiryu then looks over at the dying man and walks over to him. Nishiki backs up more and watches in shock as Kiryu raises the bat.

"I can't have any witnesses."

Nishiki instantly turns his heel and takes off. A blood-curdling scream fills the quiet night following the sound of metal colliding with the man's skull multiple times.

"Nishiki!" Kiryu roars.

His heart was pounding out of his chest as the feeling in his lower legs began to burn. He didn't turn to look back as Kiryu's voice yelled out for him. He couldn't let him catch up to him. He couldn't even imagine what horrible things Kiryu would do if he caught up to him.

He kept running until it felt like there was no oxygen left in his chest. He looked around to find a hiding spot, but his time was running short as Kiryu's voice rang out in anger. That was until a gloved hand reached for the back of Nishiki's neck blazer, yanking him into a dark back alley. A hand goes over his mouth while an arm pulls him deeper into the back alley. Nishiki tried to squirm out of the person's grasp.

"Stop moving and shut up!" The voice whispers.

Then, a tall silhouette emerges from the alley. The dragging of the bat scratches the walls of the buildings emitting an echo. "Nishiki..."

They held their breath and watched as Kiryu strolled by them. Neither one of them budged until Kiryu was no longer in sight.

The person's grip eases on Nishiki. He gently shoves the person's hands and steps away to see that it's Majima.

"I see you met him," Majima says.

Nishiki leans against the cold wall, finally catching his breath. He only nods in reply. "What... the... fuck happened to him?"

"I would be askin' you the same thing, but I guess yer just as clueless as me."

Nishiki regains composure. He couldn't believe what happened tonight. It didn't feel real. It had to be a bad dream. He buries his face in his hands as he begins to sob quietly.

Majima's brows furrow as he notices. "Hey. There ain't no time to be crying while he's out and about." He places a hand on Nishiki's shoulder. "We can go back to my office. We'll be safe there."

Name your favorite characters and why in absurd detail (if you want, or just name them)

Well, you asked for DETAILS, so have a sort of chatacter analysis/hot mess of ramblings for #1. This has a good amount of personal headcanons that I've built up and it's not 100% based on canonical facts. Also I HAVE only played 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2 (Majima saga is in progress) so I don't have all the facts. I AM NOT GOOD AT CHARACTER ANALYSIS, be warned. Also ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE.

1) Majima Goro! I find his truly kind nature masked by his 'Mad Dog' persona very fascinating and sad at the same time. The way he incorporated elements of Nishitani and Sagawa into that persona is interesting and telling of how much of an impact those two had in him deciding his path.

I'm entranced by his use kansai-ben (my beloved) and his playful tone of voice contrasted with the, at times, more serious voice that sends me right back to 1988. The way he switches from an almost mockingly polite speech style to his Kansai dialect in his introduction scene in 0 instantly made me curious about his true nature and backstory.

I think his way of showing off his tattoos by not wearing a shirt so civilians don't get involved with him (that's how I interpret it) is tragic and it's obvious his past has left him with deep scars and a fear of the people he cares about being hurt. He'd rather be alone than build bonds and then potentially lose more people.

The way he still loves Makoto deeply in Kiwami 2 after all these years, and how he sings about truly not wanting her to forget him, but regardless "not minding" it if she forgets him as long as she's happy, hurts me in a whole new way. The way he sings/screams those "I DON'T MIND"s as though he's desperately trying to make himself believe what he's saying, rather than directing those phrases at Makoto in his mind, breaks my heart.

His pretty much absent fear of death sends chills down my spine and makes me wanna cry because he was already saying he's been ready to die for a long time in a flashback from BEFORE he events of Yakuza 0. I dread possibly finding out more about his past.

He's witty and charming and his confidence draws me in. He dresses how he does and meets Kiryu as Goromi and pole dances for him as well with no problems, and all in all just doesn't care what people think of him. I know it's probably because of something tragic like him having given up on life so "might as well go out with a bang", but I want to believe he feels at least somewhat liberated when he does all that.

I'm obsessed with how he wants to witness Kiryu's journey down the path he could never follow himself. And he seems to genuinely want to support Kiryu's decision to follow his own principles. Their first conversation in Kiwami tickled my brain because in that moment he seems to "lock it in" that he'll place his trust in Kiryu's unwavering will to make his own path and wants to witness it. He wants to see if it would have been possible for himself as well, had the circumstances been different. Is it truly possible to stick to such "soft" values in the cruel world of the Yakuza?

When he saw Kiryu coming back after his decade in prison, he whipped him right back into shape because he wanted to keep witnessing Kiryu's journey and also keep Kiryu's principles alive by keeping Kiryu himself alive. Because he himself wouldn't be able to live by those values, he's in way too deep, he has a reputation to uphold. So when his brother returns to kill him (if he will try to kill him, Majima himself seems to think so), it'll be an achievement worth letting Saejima back in the family. Killing a legend and all that.

Majima seems to feel like he can let Kiryu in a tad more than others. Even if it's just fighting against or beside him and openly enjoying those interactions. Probably because he knows Kiryu can handle himself in a fight and he's near indestructible physically and mentally. Kiryu is, in a way, his equal when it comes to dealing with it when shit hits the fan. He's definitely at least fond of Kiryu imo, with him giving in very easily when Kiryu asks him to help the Tojo clan survive in Kiwami 2. And also with how uncomfortable he got when Kiryu bowed his head when he was asking Majima for help.

Majima also highly values the promises he makes; he fought those invading Sengoku thugs until he was battered and bleeding and barely able to stand because he promised Kiryu he'd be there to help. Weird move from a man who seems hell-bent on pretending not to care about anyone or anything besides his own interests, hmmm? He gave his word and he KEPT it. Because he doesn't make empty promises.

I love watching him when he's "on a break" during the Majima Everywhere storyline. It truly solidified the fact that the 'Mad Dog' is a mask for me. He's all hyper and "crazy" when others are around and he really lays it on thick, but on break? He's contemplative. He looks almost sad at times. He lets the mask drop for a second. The fact that he lets Kiryu see that instead of immediately masking back up is a whole other can of worms. Point is, the Majima from before is still there, underneath it all.

The way he thinks back on his time in Sotenbori is interesting. There's definitely trauma and anger in there, but the way he wonders about how his team is doing nowadays almost wistfully makes me happy. He had SOME light to hold on to in those dark times. He truly did care for his team and was fond of them. Also... him saying it wasn't in his nature to make a living using women like that made my respect for him soar. He truly respected everyone in his team, including the hostesses.

Also, just... ugh. The Doll Girl substory. The DAMN DOLL GIRL SUB STORY. I- THAT- 😭😭😭😭 O UG H

TL;DR: Majima because he's everything to me and he makes me experience thought spirals beyond anything I've went through before. He's tragic, he's fun, he's silly, he's hot, he's confident, he's strong, he's interesting he's kind and he's just... Majima.

2) Kiryu because he's sweet and wonderful and makes me weep and I wish he'd take better care of himself and I wanna hug him and give him soup and bring all his loved ones back to life. Please let this man catch a break.

3) Nishitani because he makes me feral and I want him carnally

4) Dojima Yayoi because... I mean... DAMN. She's fierce and extremely loyal, she handled herself extremely well in an environment that was probably rife with people who questioned her ability to lead. I'd bet my left boob she faced a lot of misogyny (direct and/or indirect) during her time as a chairwoman. But she kept going, head held high, with conviction and pride. Simply incredible.

5) Haruka is a sweet angel and I wanna protect her and I hope she will be happy forever. She stayed strong and still has faith in people even after seeing all the horrors of Kiwami 1. She's so resilient and brilliant.

How The Yakuza Characters Would Celebrate Your Birthday

Alright, this is gonna be a long one cuz I’m expanding to a bunch of other characters like Ryuji and Mine, so hang onto your hats. No spoilers in this one.

Kazuma Kiryu

He’s not much of a party person but he will still try to plan something special. It might be simple, like him making you a homecooked meal, but you can bet he will put his whole heart into it.

Haruka and the other kids will help him come up with ideas. Some of the kids might even just come up to you and ask you outright what you want for your birthday, much to Kiryu’s embarrassment.

For gifts, Kiryu always tries to get something thoughtful and personal. If you ever mention that you like a specific thing, he’ll make a mental note of it. Not the best at wrapping gifts but Haruka helps with the presentation. She also helps him pick out a cake, which usually gets shared with the kids in the end.

Majima Goro

This man may as well have the words “party city” written on his forehead. Once he knows your birthday is coming, he will start scheming, likely dragging Nishida and Saejima along for the crazy ride.

As over the top as his plans may be, what’s most important to him is that you have a good time. He isn’t sure what kind of party you’d like so he just includes it all: food, drink, singing, dancing, getting the entirety of Majima Construction to sing happy birthday, etc.

Speaking of singing, not only will he get Majima Construction to sing happy birthday to you but he will proudly conduct them himself, megaphone in hand, singing louder than all of them. He just wants you to feel special.

Saejima Taiga

Pretty much functions as the polar opposite of his sworn brother. He doesn’t want to take up your whole day as he feels it’s more important that you should be allowed to do whatever you want. It is YOUR birthday, after all.

Although he will totally get dragged into whatever Majima ends up doing, he will try to catch you alone and give you a small cupcake with a single candle on it. His way of saying happy birthday.

He’s a nervous wreck when it comes to gifts. He never knows what to get anyone and he can’t rely on Majima to give him sound advice in that category. If he really likes you, he might carve a wooden statue in your likeness but he will absolutely blush if you compliment his handiwork. When in doubt, he gets you a gift card for your favorite restaurant and apologies fervently for not doing better.

Akiyama Shun

Tries to play it cool but inside he’s panicking. Almost always calls upon Hana for assistance. Despite working regularly with girls, he’s not the best at gift giving. He will still get you something nice, although it may not be something as personal as Kiryu would get you.

For celebrations, his default is going to a nice restaurant. However, if you tell him there’s someplace or something you want to do specifically, he’s all ears. You lead the way, he’ll cover all the costs.

Out of all of the boys, he’s the best at picking out a cake by himself. Always gets a custom message written on the cake.

Tanimura Masayoshi

Gifts are his forte as he cannot always guarantee that he’ll be able to take time off to see you on your birthday. If it’s a busy work day, he’ll at least step out of the office long enough to hand deliver your gift, usually followed by a big bear hug before he runs back to work.

If he does end up getting the day off, then he’s absolutely treating you to the best food in Homeland. He’ll be sure to ask Mei Hua and Zhao to cook up a special meal just for you.

Tanimura is pretty laid back when he has time off so he makes no crazy plans beyond food. If you want to go to a bar, go to karaoke, or go dancing, he’ll let you decide. He’s chill with whatever.

Ryuji Goda

Similar to Majima, Ryuji goes all out but in a slightly different way. He prefers to celebrate your birthday with you privately rather than have literally everyone he knows show up.

You can bet that he will be taking you to the absolute best restaurant in town. He’ll even buy you a fancy outfit for the evening if you don’t have anything to wear.

Most of his gifts are jewelry. He’s got a great memory when it comes to what you already own so you’ll never get the same gift twice. If you have a lot of jewelry, he’ll buy you a nice pair of shoes instead.

Mine Yoshitaka

The best at keeping surprises to himself. You may even think he forgot your birthday until he shows up with a pretty cake and some balloons. Like Ryuji, he prefers to have birthday celebrations be a one-on-one affair.

He’ll likely just come over to your place to celebrate. If there is someplace you want to go, he’ll take you there. In his private car, of course.

For gifts, Mine is surprisingly over the top. He often chooses to get a custom piece of art commissioned for you and will personally see that it is hung up in your home. If you don’t have room in your home for art, he’ll get you a giant bouquet of flowers and a nice set of books.

Dojima Daigo

Being head of the Tojo Clan means he’s always busy but that doesn’t mean he won’t make time to see you on your birthday. If he’s particularly close to you, he might even play hooky and sneak out of work entirely, the both of you chuckling to yourself as you sneak around Tokyo.

Always gifts you something practical. Did you forget your umbrella once in front of him? He’s getting you a brand new umbrella. Needing a new cellphone? He’s got you covered. Is winter on its way? Expect nothing but the warmest and comfiest coat from Daigo.

If he can’t take time off of work to see you, he’ll call you late in the evening, apologizing for the delay. He’ll immediately take his car over to your place with his gifts and to-go from your favorite place. He will probably be too tired to go out but he’s just happy to see you after a long day and will promise to do better next year.

Nishikiyama Akira

Regardless of if we’re talking about Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami, Nishiki will always do his best to impress you. Like Akiyama, he’ll try to play it cool. He’ll try almost TOO hard.

Will pick the flashiest place to get food at. Will order the most expensive bottle in the place, even if neither of you like it. He will absolutely spend the most, although it may not seem the most thoughtful at first.

The party itself will always be the most lavish but his gifts are shockingly the most personal. Things like a custom necklace or an imported bag that he’s paid way too much to have put on hold at Le Marche can be expected. He’s also really good at wrapping presents.

BONUS ROUND

Haruka Sawamura

Unlike Kiryu, she is fully confident in her gift giving abilities. She will encourage the kids at Morning Glory to all work together to make something handmade for you. Usually it ends up being a drawing.

She will make you a personal gift like a hand towel with your name embroidered on it. It’ll always have your favorite colors.

If she has the time, she will bake a cake for you. If she can’t find the time, she will go with Kiryu to pick one out for you. She’ll also decorate all of Morning Glory with banners and balloons. Expect the biggest hug from her when you show up.

He snorts, leaning over to bump his nose with yours in a pseudo-kiss. His eyes light up at the grin you send back in his direction. Swearing he fell more in love with you as you returned his grin, leaning forward to give him a proper kiss, pulling away to smirk. "Let him figure it out on his own, let's see how long he keeps it going before he realizes."

You might try to convince her not to do such things. She is the kind of person who never misses an opportunity to be close to you, subtle hand holding or she’s too close for your comfort, she would stroke your hand as you talk about your day with your redden booze face. She will heavily encourage you to sing even once, no matter how awkward your voice might be, she will hype you up!

She wouldn’t do anything horrible to you when you’re knocked out on the bar’s coach, she would just be very touchy with you, stroking your hair away from your face and giving light bunny kisses on your hand and nape, causing some lipstick stains on your collar. She would also ask Kiryu or Nishiki to help you carry her to her house because “she doesn’t know where you live” even though that’s completely false, after arriving at her house, she would thank whoever carried you, and bring you to her bed and wipe your body with a clean towel as you sleep, she would treasure each moment she does, she would find many scars from your past or maybe new one if you were a yakuza like Kiryu and Nishiki. She would then watch you sleep then sleep while sitting beside you.

She would also let you taste all of the wine and alcohol she has, so she can find what your ideal liking after she would keep the glass you were using a keep it hidden so at the end of the night she will pour herself a glass with the one you liked the most and put her cherry lips on the same place as where your lips were.

Now at Kiwami, Reina would be the same but more rough and tense when it comes to you, assertive even like you said anon. She would ask Nishiki or hell Nishiki would ask Reina if she needs help keeping you on a leash, if you are a Yakuza she would ask Nishiki to let you be a part of his family, Nishiki would agree after having a long talk with her, Nishiki would agree because he feels like Reina I now the only person he can protect, you know the drill with Kiwami Nishiki. She would isolate you from a lot of people too, she’s way paranoid, scared even, she worries over you like a mother, she would feed lies and rumors to you around the people she seems like they would put you in danger, a snowball effect to be exact.

She will make sure that you live a comfortable life and she’s also very determined to put a ring on your finger. She may never raise her hand on you but will use her voice to put some “logic” on your head, many years of being a bartender let her know many people and buttery words to convince people. She will kidnap you with the help of Nishiki or she will put a heavy sleeping drug on your drink so she will carry you to her house or ask one of Nishiki’s goons to help if you even try to leave married or not, just one dial from Nishiki then you’ll see them at your hiding spot and bring you back to Reina’s warm “embrace”. . .

If a wilting and broken flower because of the horrors of this world-Makoto would be the personification of it. The eyes are the window to the soul so no wonder why her eyes are as clear as the tears she weep like the ocean. Her skin is still soft yet rough after many years of abuse, Makoto flinches whenever someone even tries to touch her, memories from the past hunt her, and her voice weak from the constant scream for help. Opening such a bloody wound would make anyone cry, so that's why she was sobbing and clinging to you when she opened up to you, even though you kept on telling her that she didn't need to tell you, but she insisted on telling you that "you deserve to know it after being with me." So after that, she opened her heart to you. You can't refuse Makoto when after all of that she confessed her love for you.

Makoto doesn't know the growing obsessiveness or heck the intense dependency for you, the reason she cries every night when she thinks about how you're going to leave her someday you have to comfort her that you wouldn't even THINK of such thing as you've promised that you'll never leave her! But make sure that you keep your promise, after all, two people look after her-Tetsu and Majima they both deeply care for Makoto and if they even see a single frown even worse, tears forming on the corners of her eyes, they aren't going to hesitate to talk to you. Tetsu would blackmail you to stay with her and treat her like she's the only important thing in the world, while Majima will say quite the same thing but he won't hesitate to punch you if you even say a single mean thing about her. Makoto (like you said won't kidnap you) but will keep you with her by unconsciously guilt-tripping you, making you feel guilty and uncomfortable about wanting to leave her side even without realizing it. She likes to spend her time walking with you as you both hold hands as you feed Makoto newly bought takoyaki (which you blew first, you don't want to hurt her the slightest) as you both enjoy the food after that making a promise to Makoto that you will never leave her no matter what, be a person of your word dear (Y/N). . .

Yumi WAS a sensitive-hearted woman, she was soft and energetic. If you are having a bad day you can just see her and immediately have fun, you will be extremely at ease when you are with her, she will cling to your arm as she asks about today while she gives you your drink. You always try your best to tell her that she needs to be safer after all, two hotshot Yakuzas Kiryu and Nishiki have their eyes on her, but she will only shrug it off, hey how about you sing in the karaoke! Yumi will always ask to take her out on a date, just imagine how romantic it will be! You give her ice cream as you both watch the fireworks release in the night sky and both of you kiss- such daydreaming will stop if Reina shakes her to do her job. Yumi is also delusional about every single thing you do, she will consider it as a romantic gesture mixed with her being a daydreamer. Do you open up the door for her? Is this your first move on her?! Are you telling the old creep who was touching her way too weirdly to buzz off? Then you must be jealous, don’t worry she’s all yours! She would also spread some rumors that both of you guys are dating and if you guys are in public she will give you subtle kisses on your cheek, she's just a girl in love.

After blood was spilled because of her, Yumi became on her guard protecting herself from Haruka no matter what, like you said anon, she won't be the same girl as ten years ago, she's not the naive young woman she was, her ex-husband's betrayal was the nail on the coffin for the huge trust issues that are going to grow even bigger, but if you both met again pre-Kiwami, she will first make sure that you aren't going to betray her in any way for her sake as well as yours. But once she knows that you weren't here to betray her, she will bawl in your arms, several years of bottled-up emotion bursting, which made you cry too. After all, it's been years since you met Yumi, your friend.

She will tell you about Haruka and the fact that she has to pretend that she's her aunt and not her mother, and it was harsh to hear that so then visit Haruka to spend time with your "niece", you will tell her many stories about her "mom" without telling the name, you tell Haruka how much her mom misses her and if they were in a different circumstance then she will give Haruka all of the love that she needed and with that you and Haruka became close, heck whenever Yumi visits Haruka, Haruka will ramble about you to her, melting her heart that you said many good things to her and that Haruka took a liking towards you, she would even tell you what Haruka said about you to be with her.

If you were lucky and didn't get caught by her leaving Kamurocho then say hello to your short-lived paradise before she captures you. But when she noticed and heard about your friends talking about you leaving and hearing the information, she would overthink so many scenarios. Were you leaving because you found out that Nishiki's goons weren't coming after you? Or were you leaving because you found the things that she will do to keep you with her? No, no, NO. Each day trying to contact you makes her go insane. Are you safe? Are you eating well? Or worse, maybe you're in the streets right now bloodied up?! She doesn't understand why you would ever be in these conditions, you are the one who saved her life, who gave her hope, she loves you so much, please come back, come back to me, come back… In the end, she was left alone, abandoned, completely forgotten, and unable to sleep. She would play with her food as she day-dreams of what you are doing at this hour, you were probably with your co-workers hanging out as you laugh at their horrible jokes, yet she likes the way you laugh but feels a certain disdain feeling that you were laughing with someone other than her..wait. What?! What the hell was she thinking and why did she order and buy the same food you always buy at the convenience store as her lunch today? Something's wrong with her!

Kaoru lay motionless on her bed as she deeply thought about what was happening to her, and before she even knew it she took the cellphone she had that she tapped your cell phone with so she couldn't listen to your previous calls today and Kaoru then feels it again when she heard your voice her face burns and melted with a soft smile as you told you friends about your day and were you are going tomorrow as a weekend rest. Kaoru is a fast thinker so she knew that this was her chance to meet up with you and introduce herself and let you know her (she already KNOWS a lot about you alright). She may be a fast thinker but she's an overthinker as well, she will wear clothes that you mentioned to your friends that made "anyone gorgeous, and that night she made many scenarios of what to talk to you about.

Skip to a few months and both you and Kaoru are close, she will come to you and ask you to hangout, while you will reply yes and she will feel her heart beat fast, her mouth is dry due to excitement, and she starts to think of possible ways to bring you together, she may be a bad-ass woman but she when you enter the room all people can see is a woman who has no wooing skills many of her co-workers will hype both of you guys!

But Kaoru is a police officer who has the power to keep track of you, and wherever you go, she will see you interact with your friends as she listens to your guys' conversation on the hidden mic on your coat. Kaoru would also put CCTV in your own house. Kaoru knows that what she's feeling isn't normal and the power imbalance you both have is unhealthy yet if she feels like she needs control over you. If you were a delinquent she would use that as blackmail for the new paying job you were hired for, but if you did something much worse things like murder or some kind of accomplice to a crime, then she has more power over you. But if your record is straight then you free to go but not your close ones, what happens if you're brother is a young gangster who had a reckless history or your closest friend is selling drugs, your family and your close ones are at stake you know, just one show of her badge or a piece of forced evidence then it's (ever) over for them and you.

The only way for that to not happen? For you to stay with her but if you agree then she would call her brother to take care of an "untrained pup" of her. If your family was untouchable in her status she could always depend on her brother to bring them down, you will spend many hours with Ryuji as he screams at you like a military commander of your personality, her sister should only deserve the best of attitude!

As you walk robotically with Kaoru clinging to your side, you see in the corner of your eyes, fellow Omi alliance badges watching you carefully waiting for you to fuck up so they can tell their boss. Thinking about yakuza without the stiff hair and it’s symbolic revelance.

Nishiki hearing that his old man kicked the bucket and his hair falling back into it’s natural state. The heaving sobs that are forcing him to intake air like he hasn’t been breathing since the last time. No longer fish that’s leaped out the water. He’s not drowning in his sorrows, he’ll navigate it the way he knows best. Sure. He’ll suffocate up there. But he knows he’ll breathe better once he crashes back down.

Majima unconsciously moving to tie his hair back when he goes into business man mode as though by leashing his hair he’s leashing his demons too. Normal, sound. A man worth doing business with. Late nights closing with his platinum star Yuki when the headache reminiscent of a successful night was only made worse by his ponytail, so he’d head to the roof, armed with a cigarette and a loose dog hoping to calm his nerves. Yuki would find him before going home and she’d learned quickly that it was prime time for getting info out him. She’s already learned that he hates sleeping at his own apartment so she walks him to the apartment that he rented Komaki (He’s soft hearted like that). She’s learned that scary-looking Goro is really a chatterbox and once you introduce a topic he’ll run with it even with his eye half-closed because he hates sleeping and silence. She’s learned the intimate things through late night talks but she learns more about them when she’s cooking or he’s sparring with the old man because his sister would tend to his wounds too, the only difference being that his brother was a slow tank rather than Komaki’s bullet like hands. Stooooop. Stop singing that song, he asked one night, his hair in the loosest, messiest bun. Ever the child, Yuki puffed up her cheeks and said no. It fell apart once he started laughing.

Kiryu at the end of his rope with thinning patience and a thin layer of gel that was already flaking off by the time he touched down in Kamurocho and was flowing around him like dehydrated tears while he beat the snot out of Baba in the enclosed space on Tenkaichi Alley. One punch for Daigo who’s here but somehow still so far. Another for Haruka. He’s hurting her in Osaka by being in Tokyo and he has to put his pain somewhere. A indefinite flurry of punches, kicks, and full body slamming for his kids. Yes, his kids. They’re orphans but it doesn’t matter, never did. They’re his they’re his they’re his. Pain and a tiger drop for where they came from and where they’re going. The Dragon of Dojima is a man once more, rising to claim his responsibility. His hair completely wild now, bobbing up and down with heavy breathes like a dragon who’s snarling down at his prey. He should stop, he really should but the warm red breaks through the cold, dreary grey and he welcomes it. He catches the reflection of a grief stricken dragon with whiskers and fangs out on a doorknob. Scales ruffled like feathers. Kiryu finally sees what Majima must’ve- oh… Majima. One more foot down on Baba’s face to complete the painting.

With Round 3 concluded at last and the results revealed to the public, the contestants had gathered one more time to receive the news with their friends and allies. Hugs were exchanged, there were tears, both happy and sad, and above all else, the air was alight with a jovial spirit. 

Kazuma Kiryu offered Makoto Yuki a firm handshake as the latter felt the “pling” of a new social link chime in the back of his head. 

Whisper the Wolf carefully petted AiAi’s head, comforting the little monkey over his loss, all the while muttering “You still fought well…” under her breath. 

Shinjiro Aragaki was mildly surprised (but not at all disappointed) that he had been bested by a tiny, blue bird and, when nobody was looking, pulled a little package of birdseed out of his jacket to start giving the victor their well-deserved prize. 

Dr. Eggman ragged over E-102 Gamma’s performance, criticizing every little mistake he had made and pledging to upgrade and update the robot’s systems first thing he got home. 

Hatsune Miku was very busy singing a fan-composed anthem to the badassery of Surge the Tenrec, which Surge mistook as a form of mockery, loudly screaming at Miku to stop and fight her “for real” if she really “wants to have a go so bad”. 

Kit the Fennec didn’t mind his own loss, much too preoccupied by trying to calm down Surge a little. Tangle the Lemur, meanwhile, was happily bouncing all over the place, psyched to have advanced yet another round, eventually grabbing the nearby Whisper's hands and pulling her into a tight hug. 

Rouge the Bat was posing and winking at the audience, keeping an eye open for anything shiny or glistening that she, ahem, might ‘reappropriate’ for her own uses. Haruka was too bewildered by all the strange sights around her to care much that she had lost. If nothing else, this had been a unique networking opportunity.

Morgana stood in awe at the sheer might of Bayonetta and her clearly unshakable ideals and was mumbling to himself about the likelihood of recruiting her to the cause of the Phantom Thieves. 

Sonic the Hedgehog and Goro Majima were having a laugh exchanging their favorite one-liners. 

Tails was surprised and psyched that he’d managed to defeat a being made of pure energy and information so decisively and immediately started to run the probability calculations again, which NiGHTs found very fun to watch. They silently hoped they'd be able to welcome the little fox in a dream one day. 

Shadow the Hedgehog was still not entirely sure WHAT it even was that he had fought, but its insistence that his angry demeanor was most likely the result of unaddressed trauma and the resulting attachment issues still sat very wrong with him. 

Amy and Cream were playing Hide and Seek together (Amy was not about to celebrate winning over a literal child.) 

Futaba Sakura was too busy awkwardly asking all the cool fictional characters all over the place for their autographs so she could put the collected signature collection on her wall at home to be all too upset at losing against one of the more forgotten Sonic characters. 

Absolutely nobody was surprised that Ichiban Kasuga had beaten Infinite. Not even Infinite. If one listened closely they could faintly hear Shadow the Hedgehog smirk and cackle in the background.

SHINADA. porygon-z is mainly because i thought it'd be funny if he got a virus from watching porn (for work. obviously. no more questions). i mean it happened to kiryu's taxi coworkers so. plus he's so regular and normal-guy that normal types in general feel fitting for him.

marowak and ceruledge are both there because of shinada's whole weapon-using shtick. plus the bone is kind of like a bat. sort of. i was gonna use kanto marowak but it turns out that one uses the bone as a BOOMERANG(???) so. alolan it is.

BUT ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE marowak (or maybe more specifically cubone) always struck me as a mon that longed for a place to belong, like shinada does... and ceruledge has a thing about carrying a grudge--not that i think shinada had a GHOSTLY GRUDGE because of what happened to his baseball career necessarily, but it IS something that got carried with him and catches up with him as the years pass

torterra because of the tortoise thing but... well i mean close enough. and noivern because of the wyverns, naturally.

pidgeot because shinada is literally SO NORMAL and SO REGULAR and SO JUST-SOME-GUY and the pidgey line feels like some of the most normal birds. mega pidgeot specifically because i started a trend with myself by giving the beat-em-up style playable characters a mega so. it's vibes.

MIREI PARK THE WOMAN THAT YOU ARE. GET BEHIND ME I WILL PROTECT YOU. from the haters. from the cold. from the five nights at freddy's.

cinccino just kinda suits her vibes. she's serving. cunt, even. plus it seeps Beauty Oil and park clearly knows her makeup (that one scene where she helps haruka with hers being the most indicative of this)

YAMASK MIGHT SEEM A WEIRD CHOICE but idk the way she carries her idol dreams with her so heavily like, uh, That™ and the way yamask carries around the face it once had... maybe not the healthiest coping mechanism for herself or the people around her but it's what's happening!!

thinking abt yakuza 8.... under a 'keep reading' bc i rambled again

i mentioned this before but i'm actually glad they brought kiryu back for y8 now. as much as i liked y6 it had. a lot of problems n i know ppl who understandably didn't enjoy the main story of 6 at all. watch GC Vazquez's y6 vid to get what i mean if u don't know (edit from the future: now that tehsnakerer's vid is out i recommend his more but you can watch both if you want)

(i thought i said this here before but i guess not? maybe i only said it on priv-) i think what little i've seen of y8 so far feels "kinder"? more "sincere"? as a send off than 6 despite the cancer thing ykwim. idk if that makes sense when i don't fully know the plot yet. basically it's better bc ichiban is there or something i can't explain it properly rn it has good vibes ok !!

i hope kiryu has a good time n it looks like he will bc ichiban got him finally singing judgement (his canon favorite song!!) again

Name: Miyumi Satou (or Majima depending on the year) Nicknames: Oni of Yokohama, Mad Dog's wife, Majima's Hannya (2012 exclusive title)

Likely locations: Yokohama ( ??? - 1981 gang leader times), Sotenbori (1982 - '88 Hostessing, late 2019 - current Security Firm times), Kamurocho (2000 - early 2019 Bar tending/Odd jobs)

Active period(s): 1981 - present, different designs and jobs between each city change though (for the most part)

Role: Currently a receptionist for a security firm + secretary for Majima at said firm. Previously a bar owner, hostess, and gang leader. She also temporarily took control of Majima family in 2012 until someone proper could watch over while Majima was "dead". Games wise she's like any other NPC, you could visit her bar for a quick drink, or you could find her in the security firm and talk to her to get directions. Sometimes you could find her doing odd jobs like hostessing and you could interact with her that way. Yakuza 0 would have the most hostess Miyumi content ofc. She's done a bit of everything!

Likely first/quick impression: Stuck in the past, party-er, and quite the flirt. Tattoos?

More detailed impression: Glittery and low-cut bodycon dresses, pearls, and plenty of skin to show off. So much skin that, in some cases, she's showing off a lot more ink that it seems purposeful. She'd look like she came straight out of the bubble era with how she dresses. Ningyo is the name of the mercreature on her back, a koi on each arm. Turns out she is way older than she looks. Also waaaaaaay more into fighting than she looks. way too into fighting. Also she hates talking about what she did in the 90s. We don't talk about the 90s. Miyumi loves talking, but not about herself and her relationships if she can help it.

Likely scenarios: Cleaning whiskey glasses while in her bar, singing karaoke with her friends, orbiting around her husband, or just hanging around and enjoying the sights. Doing random jobs just to get some extra cash in her wallet, or she's off on the sidelines watching a brawl go down, or even in one herself. Unless it's '81, then she's riding around on her motorbike and fighting anyone she can see. She's also never seen without her metal bat, and probably covered head to toe in blood, mud, and any other grime.

Canon relationships:

Goro Majima mainly. Miyumi was hired to work at Club Sunshine when they first met, they then grew apart, but reconnected sometime between 2005-2006. Their relationship sprouted from there and they got married (on paper) while Goro was in hiding (anywhere between 2017-2019), the official wedding was in 2020 :)! It is to be said that she's a little too attached to him at times, esp post 2012. He's also one of the reasons

Members of Majima Family / Majima Construction. Miyumi used to visit the offices and come around the construction site from time to time just to visit :)! She also like to bring snacks for the guys

Kazuma Kiryu (kinda). They know of eachother, but never really talk (I like to think that he used to visit Miyumi's bar sometimes). She really wants to fight him.

Taiga Saejima. I doubt they talk to eachother much, but there is a mutual respect. She also really wants to fight him-

Likely first/quick impression: smiling, sharply dressed businessman.

More detailed impression: very strong jawline, short wavy black hair, gregarious and friendly—in a way acts more American than Japanese. Expressive hands.

Likely scenarios: being polite to service workers/giving good tips, schmoozing with powerful people, speaking foreign languages, getting very intoxicated at clubs or parties, (rarely) serial killing a homeless person or someone else 'no one will miss.'

Canon relationships: friends with Sagawa and Andre Richardson. Close professional relationship with Kitakata Daizo. Ties with Jingweon before the massacre. Had a LONG gaming session; finished Saejima's part and got a good amount of mileage into Haruka's!

No idea how the SNIPERS SITUATED ON THE ROOFTOPS or the people right next to Kitakata didn't notice the VIP guest of the event getting snatched and dragged into the sewers. Very weird. Anyway! Good job, guys!

As soon as I saw Saejima and Kitakata next to the window like this, I knew Kitakata was getting sniped. You kinda develop a 6th sense for who dies as you play through the games.

What I DIDN'T see was Baba being a traitor. Man, I had just kinda started to like the guy, too 🙃 Although he did kind of turn around by not killing Saejima, so maybe I can keep being chill with him.

Saejima's a very wholesome guy, I tend to forget he joined the Yakuza for very altruistic reasons. Kinda wanna see him get out of that whole life, but I bet that's never happening.

I don't know what to think of this guy. He does seem to be on our side for now, but... I get a bad vibe from him. Maybe I'm just paranoid? I feel he omits too much information for him to just be a good guy who's helping us.

Now. How do I tackle this. My poor mutuals have already had to suffer through my 1000-word enraged rants about this woman. If you wanna know my full thoughts, let me know I guess. But for now all I'll say is:

1) I dislike her very, VERY much, for multiple reasons.

2) I will probably never like her, no matter what she says or does in the future.

3) Once a character gives me this bad a first impression of themselves, it's going to require a MIRACLE for me to even become neutral towards them. So if I don't specifically comment that I now like her... assume that I still, at minimum, dislike her. I'm petty, I hold grudges. Not sorry.

SO! HARUKA! I.... I do have thoughts. I fully support kids going after their dreams and wholeheartedly want Haruka to succeed. Now, THAT BEING SAID. I do NOT like the thought of her becoming an idol, purely because of the absolute STATE of the industry and the community. I don't think the game will go deep into the skeletons in the industry's closet, but it's a very unhealthy environment. I just... I don't want her to end up being hurt by this decision. I want her to be happy! ;-;

(Nooooo, Oshi No Ko and the research I did into idol culture afterwards totally didn't leave mental scars on me or anything HAHAHHAHA 🫠)

Haruka is very... alone right now. Besides Horie trying to cheer her on at times, the adults around her feel very cold and emotionally distant. And she said she hasn't had much luck making friends at school. Makes me feel very sad, to be honest🥺 I hope things change for her soon - for the better, that is...

As for the gameplay... I like it! It does end up feeling kinda repetitive, grinding the same songs and tasks, but that's just how grinding is. The performance lessons are very fun; almost like karaoke, but different. The dance battles are tough! I REALLY hope I get to play as Kiryu and sing karaoke with her at the end of the game. IF they even reunite, that is 😭💔

Overall I'm enjoying seeing more of Haruka and hearing her thoughts. Kinda do miss fighting, though ( ´△｀) I'm scared I'll forget how fighting even works while I go through this section 🙃

Karaoke And Music Headcanons - Yakuza 1-4 Protagonists Edition

Karaoke is one of my favorite parts of Yakuza and they are genuinely bangers tbh, plus the VAs do a great job so here are some of my thoughts on how our protags are when they go out to karaoke and what they like to listen to.

Kazuma Kiryu

Mostly listens to classic rock. Has a small vinyl collection at Morning Glory tucked away into a corner of his room. However, he rarely listens to music loudly as he does not want to disturb the kids.

Will not dance to music but will bob his head to the beat. Sadly his dancing days are behind him, along with the bubble era. He didn’t mind cutting loose on the dance floor when he was in his early 20′s though.

On the other hand, he loves karaoke. He will usually go by himself and just belt out his favorite songs. It’s honestly a form of stress relief for him. Sometimes he’ll take the kids with him and they all have a blast.

Since he does enjoy singing, he is extremely proud of Haruka for pursuing an idol career. He will never brag about Haruka to others to avoid ruining her chances at success but secretly he is THE proudest dad. Will memorize all the words to anything she sings.

Majima Goro

Mostly listens to pop music. Prefers 80′s and 90′s pop but anything on the radio suits his taste. If it’s catchy, he likes it.

Is very bad at memorizing lyrics so he hums all the time instead. He often gets caught at work humming some jingle to himself. Only knows all the words to his company construction song.

Despite this, he loves writing his own silly songs in his head. Usually they’re rather silly. He loves to annoy Saejima with whatever random tune he’s come up with.

At karaoke, he is good at singing if it’s a song he is somewhat familiar with. If he has never heard it before, he will just improv his way through most of it, cackling to himself. He prefers dancing to singing karaoke.

Saejima Taiga

Like Kiryu, he’s more of a rock guy. Also fond of blues. More of an old school music fan. He’s not up to date on new singers or bands.

He’s very self conscious so he will not play music on speakers or sing out loud. He prefers to wear headphones while listening to music. You might catch him humming VERY quietly to himself, which sounds like a low rumbling almost.

Rarely seen at karaoke but Majima drags him there anyways. Even if neither of them know the words or are good at singing, Majima wants to make up for lost time with his sworn brother.

Very shy when he sings but once he gets going, he has a smooth bassy voice. Prefers to do backup. Great at keeping a beat with a tambourine.

Akiyama Shun

Up to date on all the music trends. Part of the territory with running a hostess club, honestly. He picks up a lot of new music from the girls there.

As an extension of his work, sometimes he takes his hostesses to karaoke as part of their training for after hours dates. They’re all a little intimidated when he does this as he tends to sing better than all of them.

Loves going to karaoke, especially with Hana as she is the only one who can keep up with his energy. They sing a lot of duets.

He’s big on love songs. Akiyama is a romantic and daydreamer at heart so his music taste reflects that. Loves a sappy ballad. Also really into jazz music but he doesn’t talk about it much and prefers to listen to it in the comfort of his home when he’s trying to unwind.

Tanimura Masayoshi

Being able to speak so many languages has given way to Tanimura exploring a lot of world music. He’s really into k-pop lately but will not admit it, even if you ask him. The other cops tease him for it but he and Mei Hua bond over it. He is also fond of rap music.

He’s very shy about singing and will try to avoid karaoke as much as possible. However, if he does get roped into it, he’s a pretty decent singer, albeit he does tend to sing rather softly.

Surprisingly fond of dancing and is kind of good at it. He tries to learn choreography from k-pop or j-pop routines in his spare time as he finds it both entertaining and good exercise. Helps him stay light on his feet.

Usually listens to music with a pair of earbuds and a music app on his phone. Since he’s always on the go, he doesn’t really have any form of music system at his apartment.

Bonus Round! Haruka Sawamura

Despite being an idol, she’s pretty neutral on most pop music. She is partial to girl groups and other girl idols as she looks up to them but she mostly ever listens to them as a means to better understand the industry rather than out of enjoyment.

Actually a metal fan but keeps it under wraps. Listens to music using earbuds and will quietly mouth the lyrics to herself under her breath.

At karaoke though, Haruka will always belt it out. She’s a lot like Kiryu in that way. They have the best jam sessions at karaoke.

She is not shy about singing at all, given her career. However, she is not the showboating type and will never brag or boast about her abilities. She’s very humble and to this day compliments on her singing make her blush.
