in response to the drabble post- could we get possessed!teru or possessed!mob content? if that’s not too demanding 😅 i just love how dimple can manipulate expression and powers
To be honest maybe Ekubo should have felt bad about doing so that. About instinctually bubbling that reaction from the scene in front of him. He honestly thought, after about an year or more with Shigeo's philnathrophic presense, he'd shapen out to be better. More generous, kinder, humbler.
But he couldn't help the snort that absconded him as he saw Teruki with a mass of hair ripped off.
Teruki was stirring now. Moving, finally opening his eyes and adjusting to the fact that the world around him exists and that light is a thing that'll very much hurt his eyes if he opens them too fast. He clenched onto part of rubble as he oriented himself, holding his head with one hand.
"What on Earth..."
Ekubo snorted yet again, this time floating just a bit closer to him.
"I wouldn't stand up if I were you"
Teruki looked at him questioningly, confused, before looking down and finally realizing why he said so. His face turned beet red and he whipped his head in all directions.
"Where are my..."
"They're...everywhere" Ekubo answered, shrugging, gesturing towards the scraps of clothes laying around. "I have Reigen's jacket with me, though"
He passed on the cloth to him, feeling almost cathratic after relieving himself from the load.
"Appreciate it" he mumbled, putting it on and unbuttoning every button there was. He played around with it, just to adjust, before eventually sitting up straighter.
"Shigeo asked me to check on you" he explained "He's still wiping snot and tears on Reigen's shoulder, but he had some sense in him left after that event to remember you were lying around here"
"Why is he..." Teru started, before, stopping, mulling over something and widening his eyes in realization "God, did she reject him? Or not show up at all?"
"Yeah, rejection. His first one at that. Must be painful"
"What do you mean ‘must be’? You've never been rejected?" Teruki asked, with an eyebrow raised.
"Do you think I have any solid memory of the love life I had when I was alive eons ago?" he asked, indignantly.
"Sorry" he answered, with an unapologetic smirk. He started standing up, slowly but surely. Trying to find his balance by holding on to whatever he could find. He wobbled about the spot like a drunk man as he finally got on two feet. He was looking at his legs like they were alien appendages.
"You okay buddy" Ekubo asked, going closer. "Need a hand?"
"Like you can give me one" he scoffed.
“This is that part where you should be appreciating the thought” he sneered.
“Sorry” he mumbled, before sitting on the very rock he held for support.
Ekubo chuckled, again “So this is what Shigeo meant when he said he’d obliterated you the first time”
Teruki hollowly chuckled back, “Yeah. This is better, though. I don’t feel a fever coming. And well...I wasn’t acting like a piece of shit this time- I hope.”
Ekubo looked over to the park bench. Reigen and Shigeo were already out of sight, and he had no idea where they’d gone to. Probably to the ramen shop, a classic. He then saw a pole light, which was barely hanging by a thin wire, snapping and falling right onto a small patch of flowers, crushing them.
“This is bad...” he said, looking around. “Wow. Shigeo’s powers are really...”
“You tell me. All my other uniforms are at the drycleaners”
“You should be used to it” Ekubo joked, winking.
"I am used to it” he bitterly chuckled, gesturing at himself “What I'm not used to, however, is..." he waved his hands at the scene in front of them "that. I don't think I'll ever be used to that"
They fall into silence. Partly because they don’t know how to particularly follow up with that, partly because Teruki is on the verge of collapsing again.
Ekubo tried catching him as his feet give up, but he is only a ghost and there is only so much he could do before Teruki and all 47 kilos of his weight stumbled down again.
“Fuck” he cursed under his breath. Ekubo perched himself on his shoulder.
“Want me to carry you?” Ekubo offered. Teruki arched an eyebrow. Ekubo continued
“Yeah I know I can’t do that in this form, but I’ll posssess you. You can catch up on rest, then when you’re in bed I’ll leave your body”
Teru looked at him skeptically, “You sure you won’t use me for your own personal benefit?”
“Hey!” he yelled, offended “Whatever makes you think that?”
“I can think of a few examples” Teru taunted. Ekubo rolled his eyes
“I can also think of a few examples when you were equally as fucked up”
“Touche” he shrugged, “anyways, I don’t think I have any other option, so,” he opened his arms wide “my body’s yours for the taking”
Ekubo smiled, and flew fast to gain enough momentum to penetrate his skin and overtake him with the remnants of his powers he had left. But right before he could touch his skin, Teruki jerked back.
“Wait. One last thing”
Ekubo groaned, frustrated. “What?”
“Make me invisible. Please. I don’t want to go out in the open with only a jacket and no hair at all”
Ekubo irritatedly complied, and finally went under his skin.
There was an immediate sensation prickling his spirit when he entered him.
Teruki was strong.
Even with most of his powers depleted, and being more exhausted than a marathon runner, he was strong. And not just in terms of muscles, though they were still something to marvel over consider he never truly used them before the last year. There was something so powerful about his aura, something that always beckoned attention, beckoned the spotlight to fall on him. It was strong because it was confident, brazen, bold. Ekubo kind of admired that aura; a stark contrast from the aura he was used to possessing- a more subdued, gentler one.
Making him invisble, therefore, was not a tedious task- even taking his almost dissipated self into account. Teru’s powers were eager to work themselves into invisibility, and Ekubo could not see Teru’s hands within seconds. He wondered if he was a fast learner by nature.
It was tiring, travelling all the way to his home on the other side of the city without bumping into civilans who probably didn’t need more excitement of being hit by invisible men after having their city nearly destroyed by a middle schooler. He’d never admit out loud, but he really made sure to take care of Teru. After all, those were Shigeo’s orders. That was what he was set out to do. So he did make small adjustements, like limping down on his right foot at times because the left one was badly bruised. Holding the arm that started to ache mere minutes after the beginning of their journey. He could see why Teruki wanted Ekubo to turn him invisble, it would have been a truly pathetic sight to see the infamous Teruki Hanazawa like that. And also it’d garner a lot of unecessary attention by people begging for answers.
Teru had grown a lot. He didn’t know why the thought that crossed through his head- maybe it was because in essence he was in Teru’s head and Teru still had a healthy dollop of ego and pride and an uncanny ability to make a lot about a situation about him, but it did and Ekubo doesn’t find himself disagreeing. He’d...changed. It was a good change, a great change. Ekubo felt himself wonder if he himself had changed as well.
If he hadn’t, well, a spoiled brat like him was capable of his paramour, why couldn’t he be?
Eventually they reached his bed. Ekubo didn’t know anything about his house so he doesn’t change Teru into more comfortable clothes. He only used a bit of tapwater to clean up wounds. He’s sure Reigen wouldn’t mind his jacket being stolen by Shigeo’s friend for the night. He tucked himself-- and in extension Teru-- in the bed until he was neck deep into covers before finally releaseing his hold from his body.
Ekubo looked back one last time. Teru rolled onto his back and gave a loud snore. Ekubo probably should have felt bad about being amused at the scene, but he only laughs to himself one last time before leaving.
