WTA Hunger Games Simulator

We've already had one hunger games, yes, but what about a second hunger games? You heard that right folks, instead of doing my uni work, i've made the executive decision to put the WTA top 24 in Situations. The aforementioned Situations being survival of the fittest in a death trap of an arena. So almost like playing on Rod Laver Arena in the 40 degrees Australian Summer before the retractable roof. So, ladies and gentlemen and other, I present to you your cast:

And away we go!

Day 1

And already, the action is actioning folks. While most people have their flight instinct switched on in a fight or flight situation, Anna Kalinskaya isn't most people. Still not over the Dubai final, she mortally injures Jasmine Paolini, leaving her to die. Ons Jabeur is also killed at the hands of Daria Kasatkina. I guess the power of friendship didn't manage to save them. But wait, there's more. Donna Vekic ruthlessly mows down Carolina Garcia.

Qinwen Zheng, a master Jedi, knows that the only way to victory is through the high ground. Anna Kalinskaya continues her reign of terror, taking out Barbora Krejcikova and Daria Kasatkina with Danielle Collins. Both Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff already are questioning their sanities, which, mood. Victoria Azarenka, practising archery, may be a threat later on, someone should keep an eye on her. Emma Navarro also gets her first superfan. But by far, the biggest development is Aryna Sabalenka, 3rd seed, has been taken out..... by herself! Yes, she tried to poison Marketa Vondrousova's drink but mistook it for her own. Inconceivable! 6 cannon shots can be heard in the distance. Rip Jasmine Paolini, Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia, Barbora Krejcikova, Daria Kasatkina, Aryna Sabalenka.

Night 1

In a great showing of American-Canadian solidarity, Leylah Fernandez and Coco Gauff shelter together. Even though it's night, the action doesn't stop, as Bia Haddad Maia kills Madison Keys, who had been minding her own business till now. Jessica Pegula also doesn't die at the hands of Victoria, who keeps Jessie alive. Anna's reign of terror ends as she and Marta Kostyuk pull a Romeo and Juliet. Sort of. I mean, the both die in the end so it's basically the same. And Donna Vekic is proving to be a cold-hearted killer, strangling Danielle Collins with a rope. Both Barbora and Daria's killers have been killed tonight.

Day 2

Donna Vekic has an injury. But what else is new. Maria Sakkari also sprains her ankle. However, the no. 2 seed, Coco Gauff has also gone out with a bang, with it taking 3 people to kill her. Interestingly, Jess and Victoria, having gone from one keeping the other alive despite begging to be killed to working together. Dream team? And speaking of dream teams, Jelena Ostapenko and Elena Rybakina have put aside their differences and are on the prowl. Everyone watch out! 5 cannon shots can be heard for Madison Keys, Marta Kostyuk, Anna Kalinskaya, Danielle Collins, Coco Gauff.

Night 2

Lots of action tonight, as Victoria and Jess and Leylah are killed by Bia, Liudmila Samsonova and Emma. Dream team over smh. And while we're at it, whilst they worked together during the day, unfortunately, Elena and Jelena couldn't go on like this, with Elena begging for death and Jelena killing her. It was either gonna be this or taken out by her immune system. Rip Rybapenko, you were bigger than the whole sky.

Day 3

And it's time for the feast!

And the no. 1 seed and defending Roland Garros champion, Iga Swiatek is out alongside Marketa Vondrousova! It's just grand slam champion thing, you wouldn't get it. Liudmila has also died, this time due to untreated injuries. And this is why knowing first aid is important kids.

Donna Vekic, in a showing of mercy, spares Emma Navarro's life after beating her, even though Emma is the reason she sprained her ankle the previous day. She's turning into a formidable person to meet in the arena. Could she win it all? More action as Maria Sakkari has also suffered a devastatinig loss to berry bush. Can't a girl just live her life? And it's the most death we've had, with a whopping 7 cannon shots being fired for Victoria Azarenka, Jessica Pegula, Leylah Fernandez, Elena Rybakina, Liudmila Samsonova, Iga Swiatek and Marketa Vondrousova. I can't believe it's only the third day.

Night 3

After sparing her life during the day, Donna convinces Emma to snuggle. Love truly wins. Someone should've cuddled with Maria as well. And Jelena Ostapenko has been given explosives, a terrifying thought for everyone.

Day 4

It's only Day 4 and we've had another double suicide. Yes, Qinwen Zheng and Jelena Ostapenko both die, another tragedy, like uhh Antony and Cleopatra. And in a dramatic twist, after sparing her life and even cuddling together, Emma Navarro has forced Donna Vekic's hand: making her choose to kill either Bia or Maria. Maria has become the victim of this couple's spat. 3 cannon shots can be heard in the distance for Qinwen Zheng, Jelena Ostapenko and Maria Sakkari.

So now, we're down to just 3 tributes. All three underdogs who all have an equal chance at snatching victory. So who's left? Will Emma "daddy's money" Navarro prove to the world that she's the no.1 american nepo baby? Will it be Donna "Last Call" Vekic who will make a timely appearance on the top step? Or will Beatriz Haddad Maia bee the one to lift the trophy? We will find out after the break.

Night 4

Emma has been awoken by nightmares, which could be related to her partner (in crime), Donna, dying while trying to one up the system. A truly Hamlet and Horatio move. Bia just vibing though, starting a fire and roasting s'mores. We're down to Emma and Bia, battle of the North vs South America.

Day 5

Oh my god that was brutal. Emma, channeling her inner Donna Vekic, mercilessly mows down Bia. Honestly, i'm at a loss for words that was remorseless. 2 cannon shots can be heard for Donna Vekic and Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Congrats queen on your second ever totally legit title that definitely counts. Now go out there and slay in real life

rf kuang gave us an unflinching exploration on the cycles of violence and oppression, dissected the ever-escalating chain of vengeance, and the good good of eastern-inspired mythology?? like ma’am.....the good food im eating at your feast.....ive been so hungry

the lore deserves its own point. it was so effortlessly woven into the story, especially the way it tied into certain characters’ backstories. i can’t say much more because spoilers but if you like integrated worldbuilding and you like chinese-inspired magic systems get over here!!

the friendships. namely rin 🤝 kitay. miss kuang you know what really matters, and its not 10398 handsome men, its one ride-or-die bff holding you back or yeeting you into the midst of battle as needed

grimdark, but not oppressively depressing? im not sure how to describe it..the story gives you enough adrenaline to power through with the sheer speed of reading to find out what happens next, but doesn’t pull its punches. i think its partly that rin herself ploughs through the narrative like she’s trying to outrun the events, giving the reader the momentum to move with her

i took a screenshot when my friend and i were planning to do a buddy read together. the trigger warnings took up an entire page. do not screw around with this. there’s no shame in tapping out for any book, but especially this one

some characters die, and i specifically blame rin for it. i mean there were a lot of other factors, but in the spirit of the phoenix herself i am choosing to close my eyes to the rationality of working through my feelings of grief in a healthy way and plunge straight into being pissed off about it, forever. *wipes tear* just like rin taught me

did suffer from a bit of middle book syndrome, at least to me. i mean, i finished an 800~ page book in 8 hours of reading time, so maybe don’t believe me, but the first half of the book dragged more than i remember the poppy war did. i will admit a lot of that was because rin was in no position to be a rational, active protagonist. the narrative needed her to flounder, and she did.

Summary: Rin goes unhinged 2: water dragon boogaloo (ive tried and tried to write an actual summary for this book but i don’t think i can top this throwaway line i wrote as a placeholder)

Concept: 💭💭💭💭💭 Where to start? There are historical influences, commentary on social issues and the impact of violence on communities both physical and otherwise, the slow and terrible descent of a beaten-down protagonist. Basically a checklist of stuff I like exploring in high fantasy settings!

This is the second book in a trilogy - spoilers ahead!

Execution: 💥💥💥💥 Rin doesn’t like politics, and I think that made the narrative drag a lot initially as the moving parts tried to be interesting but through Rin’s jaded lens were stripped of their veneer. Kuang was more than ambitious with her sophomore book, and I know that she was open about struggling with the pacing of TDR while she was writing it - still, I think there’s more than something to be said about shooting for the stars! I didn’t think any part of the book dropped the ball, but the nature of all the heavy topics it was trying to handle became a hefty meal to swallow

Personal Enjoyment: ❤❤❤❤ Like I said, I read this book over 3-ish days in 8 hours. The library copy I had said it was 800 pages. I felt as powerful as Rin when I finished. The first half was a little dead in the water (which is a pun, yes, how many damn times did someone fall into the water and nearly drown in this book?? smh) but nothing I couldn’t handle with a little exasperation at Rin’s...*gestures* mental landscape. But when we reached the lore about Su Daji, and the Trifecta, and their chosen gods....i broke into a flat-out sprint. I was naruto-running through the plot.

Favourite Moment: it’s a battle to the death between the scenes with the trifecta backstories and the rin 🤝 kitay scenes

Favourite Character: chaghan, because i loved his backstory so, so, so much....also I didn’t know that handholding scene in the mountains was like. canon. and not fanon. rin really looked homosexuality in the eye and said ‘huh?’ with her whole chest.

NONNIE THIS IS SO CUTE !! SR Reader would want to take everyone to an area she thinks they’d like!! It’d be a very chaotic trip. Maybe an Everyone Lives AU type of special. Lemme go over my thoughts...

If you’re travelling with Giorno, you’re gonna be travelling in style. Man is packing the big bucks. He just tells you to bring him wherever you want. Might be a bit disappointed that the others are tagging along at first, but still has plans to get alone time with you :) he’s the least likely to want to go anywhere specific. He’s gonna be harshly judging any of the food you recommend, but doesn’t ever tell you lmao. Just flashes you a charming smile and says it’s wonderful while going on an internal Gordon Ramsey monologue over the flavors and presentation. He’d secretly like places that specialize in sweets, and should you catch onto this, would make feeble attempts at dismissing it. Despite all the fancy food he can afford, he has a soft spot for smores you made for him!! Thought it was the cutest thing ever :’)))) especially when you were blowing on the marshmallows to set the fire off. The moment was ruined by Narancia mourning his marshmallow that fell into the fire...  

Mista is going to want to visit Hollywood 100%. This man is a cinema addict and nothing can convince me otherwise. He’s going to be finding areas that appeared in his favorite movies and dragging you (and maybe a few other unlucky people, probably Fugo) along for the ride. Sex Pistols are gonna embarrass him by reenacting his favorite scenes lmao. He’d want to go to Griffith’s Observatory to reminiscence about Rebel Without a Cause and won’t shut up about the movie the entire time. Mista fits in with the lackadaisical air of LA a little too perfectly, and you keep telling him to change out of his sweater because it’s gonna be hot. But he doesn’t. Mista is gonna be so tilted when he finds out his favorite Clint Eastwood doesn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame... you didn’t have the heart to tell him at first. He’s also sad that he can’t legally drink in the states LMAOO

“[First], so let me get this straight. I can carry my pistol around openly here, but I can’t legally drink?” 

“Couldn’t have explained it better myself, Mista.” 

Narancia is another person who would be excited to visit areas in California the most. He’s more into music, so he’s going to want to tour all the big studios (and gets bored when he doesn’t spot any celebrities like he expected). Also the most likely to be disappointed with California prices. When you explain to him how much he needs to pay in USD for a meal he’s gonna gape at you like you have two heads. 

“W-what? That much for a burger and fries? This has to be a crime! Bucciarati, come talk some sense into this guy!” 

“Narancia, no, don’t beat up the Americans--” 

He’d also be interested in New York!! Specifically in areas that hold cultural significance for hip hop like the Bronx. He thinks it’s the coolest thing ever. Might stand out a little too much but it’s okay he’s having fun. Narancia would be suffering on the east coast, since a lot of people there are prickly. If anyone bumps into him in New York, you’re gonna have to deescalate lmao. He’d also want to visit places like Hershey Park, Six Flags, etc... you’re gonna have to explain to him that they’re all very far apart. Narancia wants to drag you on rollercoasters, god help your soul ... (if you refuse, he’ll settle on Mista joining him. Emphasis on settle). You might need to get him a shirt that says “If lost, return to [First]” for him, and a “I’m [First]” for yourself. 

Trish is another one from the group who is most interested in visiting New York. She fits in perfectly, unlike Narancia. She can keep up with the walking speed there too lmao. Trish is gonna drag you into countless fashion stores, and take selfies with you at Times Square. If anyone tries to cat call her... well, she’s gonna have you defending her honor. Trish is gonna want to go to Tiffany’s, and Radio City music hall to see a concert. She actually speaks English pretty well! She has a cute little accent on some words, but when you tell her that, she gives you a >:( look. Anyways you’d both be looking like models next to one another. A few people have come up to Trish, asking if they’ve seen her in magazines or something... smh... it’s your job to flirt with her so you shoo them off in English >:) 

God... Bruno would be so adorable. He wants to explore the beaches!! When you’re asking where he wants to go, he’ll mention these places. The Outer Banks, Ocean City (until you tell him he’s gonna be greatly disappointed if you go there), Honolulu, and the Santa Monica beaches. He likes sitting on the piers and feeling the ocean breeze, and trying the boardwalk food!! He thrives the most in Southern states since he likes the warmer places. 

The state I see him liking the most should he visit is Maryland. He’d be prancing around the inner harbor, enjoying all the outdoor cafes and feasting on seafood. Just be sure to teach him how to eat crabs properly :’) the gang eating crabs is a mess. The waiter brings wooden hammers, and Narancia starts SMACKING the FUCK out of that steamed crab. You have to explain to him it’s not meant to be used like that... Mista tries using it like a judge’s gavel to make you laugh. Fugo and Abbacchio are leaving the table so as not to associate with them... 

Fugo is gonna be embarrassed by everyone else’s shenangins. He fits in the frigid temperament a lot of East Coasters have. He’d be the most interested in visiting Boston for its historical importance, and touring the various colleges there. He prefers Boston over New York and LA, he’s a bit of a snob... is gonna be internally screaming over the stupidly complicated way of getting around. Why is the train system here so archaic?? Who designed this?? He wants to have a word with them. Fugo isn’t big on city life though, so he might want to visit somewhere more rural. Perhaps... Florida... ahaha... jk... unless? 

Abbacchio is going to want to visit New Orleans and nothing can convince me otherwise. I headcanon that he’s a big fan of jazz. So he’ll be hanging out in notable jazz clubs, sipping on fine wine, enjoying the music with you. He appreciates how the music transcends language. Especially since he feels weird constantly badgering you or Fugo, the best English speakers, to translate stuff for him. He might be a little bit smug that he’s able to drink alcohol unlike Mista, who is still greatly offended by not being able to drink.

1. i’ve told you this omg so this could be more interesting for you. but this is … a very tricky question for me, to some degree, because i very much believe that canon acts as a prompt for interpretation… & of course interpretations differ with different people. what i will say, though, is that i do think seidou’s first entrance in re tends to distract with the idea that he is completely mad & completely bloodthirsty & that he speaks jibberish at times. it’s important to note that his mentality at that point was incredibly impaired at that point because he was a half-kakuja. further given images of rize that we’ve seen when she was starved & given seidou’s obvious disorientation when he is first told that he’s eaten his parents … how regularly & irregularly & how forcefully seidou is fed really influences his current state of mind. especially in the auction house, when he’s making his “debut” as a soldier for aogiri. but this also makes … a whole lot of sense given the fact that we rarely see seidou actively wanting a feast after the auctionhouse. i’m going to make another post eventually about seidou & his relationship with food in general soon, because i think there’s a lot to be said there. but i think i’m just going to protest the interpretation that re seidou is an unhinged asshole … because i think one of the most interesting aspects of his character is that he is arguably one of the most self aware individuals ? even in re. which i suppose is a headcanon itself omg. i protest with the argument that he plays it up for dramatics, for coping within his own internalized dialogue, & with a bitter heart.i try to incorporate this a lot into my writing in my writing for owl specifically - it’s very choppy, very post-modern (lmao what?), but i think also tries to connect both seidou wants to narrate things verses & the sad rational of how his thought process actually settles.also please note i am not excusing seidou for his crimes. i just think it’s interesting to point out that he also does not excuse himself. i don’t even know if any of this is canon divergent or not omg.

14.  i live for aus. is the au ideal for seidou or for me, i gotta wonder ? because if it’s ideal for seidou … he would preferably not have become a half ghoul & would continue to climb the ranks at the ccg & feel increasingly uneasy with the corruption there because it … interrupts his noble narrative of his purpose there.

a fun au that i am personally ? craving ? would be seidou’s being locked up in cochlea. i think that could be fascinating because it would explore the ccg’s fully having to sever themselves from one of their own … & because it would serve as an interesting parallel to his imprisonment in aogiri.

15.   i personally ? as an individual ? feel most protective when there are plots or threads in which seidou feels underestimated or mitigated. this is probably because i partially feel like everyone should talk about seidou takizawa more & that he should not be underestimated, but also because i think his sense of feeling inferior is a very relevant dilemma for a lot of people. so when i plot & thread about his sense of inferiority - i feel protective because it’s #relatable content.

also he suffered a lot not to be validated smh. the man gets turned into owl & still gets called number two.
