Yes, let's talk about "your" pronouns for a moment, because I have some thoughts on the matter...
What's that? Oh, silly me. By "let's talk about," what you actually mean is "unquestioningly comply with my demands."
Be that as it may, "we" - which is to say, "I" - am going to talk about it regardless.
Let's analyze this for a moment.
She gives the game away right up front: blue heart is for boys, pink heart is for girls. This ideology is based on stereotypes. If you still doubt this, I don't know what else to show you to convince you.
Secondly, her "gender" isn't a profound knowledge of personal identity, because it changes faster than the weather. I'm not even sure it's her personality, because anyone whose personality changes that rapidly and that wildly has some kind of severe disorder. What she's calling "gender" seems to be nothing but her mood.
Thirdly, and I keep having to repeat this, if your "gender" requires others to participate, then it's not a "deeply personal sense of self." Just like your faith cannot be "a personal relationship with Jesus" if everybody else has to pray or refrain from pointing out the flaws in the bible. "Gender is a social construct" means that your "gender" only "exists" to the extent people play along. People are sick of being bullied into pretending for narcissists.
More importantly, you don't get to make others participate and then deny them any say or input. You can't give people an obligation with no authority, because if you think you can, then others can give you an obligation with no authority.
And you don't get to make others responsible for your mental wellbeing, to carry the burden you cannot or will not, and then get angry when they don't meet your standards or decline the obligation at all. You are responsible for you. Trying to make other people responsible for your emotions or mental state is psychotic. Xians insist that humans - and particularly children - are responsible for keeping their god happy, evidently because he cannot do it himself. You're just as much of an immature psychopath. We are not responsible for keeping you from bursting like a fragile soap bubble.
You can have a personal, unquestionable conviction, or you can have a matter of public interest and discussion. As soon as you insist others participate, you forfeit the right to cordon your beliefs off from scrutiny. If you want your beliefs to go unmolested, then keep them to yourself.
If it's nobody else's business, don't make it other people's business. You can't claim your "gender" is nobody else's business, nobody else gets a say, and then insist it is their business to comply with these demands and prop the whole delusion up.
Private concern or public interest. Choose one.
Fourthly, anyone who comes up with rules like this is a sociopath who is trying to control, manipulate and trap others. Since third-person pronouns are used primarily when someone is not present, when referring to an individual when talking to others, this is a form of authoritarian thought-control. You do not get to dictate how others must see you or think of you. They get to decide for themselves what they think of you, regardless of whether or not you like it, and it's none of your business. And if your sense of self is so flimsy that you must coerce them to conform their view of you to your own view of yourself, then you have bigger problems than "your" pronouns.
When she walks into room, people stiffen because they have to talk like idiots around her - and that's part of the appeal. She wants to be "misgendered," because who is she if she's not a marginalized victim and the center of attention? That's the trick: either you comply, and she wins, or you refuse, and she gets to pretend to be a victim and she wins. Nobody's obliged to pay attention to these insane, imaginary rules, much less play along. When she's already gamed it to win no matter what, the only way for you to win is to retain your integrity and self-respect and tell the truth.
And finally, you do not have pronouns. The pronouns belong to the language, in this case, English. The English language has pronouns for you. You don't have your own pronouns any more than you have your own conjugations or your own adjectives. Other languages, such as German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese, have their own structures, and they're not for you to "fix" with your stupid activism.
And yes, languages change. They evolve through common usage and common acceptance, not through narcissists performing blunt-force creationism enforced with emotional manipulation and vilification.
She's an average, unremarkable girl who's found a socially acceptable way to control other people and pretend to be interesting.
My adjectives are amazing/brilliant/impressive.
Misadjectiving is hate. #BeKind
P.S. I miss the days when pink, green or blue dyed hair was a sign of rebellion and uniqueness, rather than a predictable trope and red flag that warns the world about all your views and opinions before you ever open your mouth. #MakeDyedHairCoolAgain

Johnny boyyy!(bender)
THAT, my friend, is a FANTASTIC idea :D I like the way you think -3- So! Not really knowing what to write, I went to Pinterest for one of them Person A Person B prompts. I'll link the one I used. This is the one I used :D
Living in the Moment: John Bender x Reader
Pronouns for reader: She/Her
Relationship type: Platonic to Romantic, Friends to Lovers
General Idea: John and Y/N have been friends for years now. A duo of chaos, dare I say. The two once again get themselves into detention. But what happens when feigning a nap Y/N hears something she wasn't meant to hear?
Content Warnings: Drugs (It's a Breakfast Club fic... it's kinda in the terms and conditions), Bender being soft, swearing, (Y/N) doesn't hate Claire (that's a recurring theme in these fics for some reason. I actually really like Claire)
(Nobody's POV)
"We pretty much asked for this detention served to us on a silver platter." (Y/N) says, hands in her pockets as she walks to Shermer High School. She turns her head to her friend, John Bender, who was walking beside her.
"It's worth it though." He says, fishing around in his pocket for his sunglasses. It wasn't sunny out at all, he literally only ever wore them to piss off Vernon. He takes another pair out of one of his coat pockets and put them on (Y/N)'s head. He flicks them so they slide onto her face, causing her to laugh.
"John!" She laughs in mock offence, taking bits of her hair out from behind the sunglasses. The two walk into the library and sit down next to each other, their movements pretty much in sync. A few people were also in detention. People (Y/N) recognized as Brian Johnson; a nerd she had physics with, Claire Standish; a girl who (Y/N) had respect for but never bothered to talk to, Andrew Clark; an kid on the wrestling team who was similar to Claire in (Y/N)'s eyes, and Allison Reynolds; someone (Y/N) had talked to a few times... but never had a real conversation with.
Vernon walks in and stands, just looking at the mini crowd of teens in the library. His eyes set on (Y/N) sitting next to Bender and laughs humorlessly. "On your feet (L/N), you're sitting somewhere else."
"I can sit where I want." She retorts, folding her arms over her chest. "It's a free country." Vernon yanks her out of her seat and she starts to sit at the desk behind John, to which Vernon snaps.
"Next to her." He points towards Allison, who snaps her head up instantly. (Y/N) does as she's told, but devises a plan to reunite with her friend once the dictator leaves.
"Well... here we are. I want to congradulate you for being on time." Vernon says, his tone of voice being slightly degrading.
"Excuse me, sir?" Claire raises her hand. "I think there's been a mistake. But, um... I don't think I belong here." John and (Y/N) exchange a look that says "Oh dear God" . Vernon is unfazed by this.
Vernon goes on to talk about how everyone has pretty much 9 hours to be in here and that we have to do a 1000 word essay on who we think we are. When Vernon leaves, (Y/N) scoots herself right back to her original spot. A few hours goes by; John bullies Claire and Andrew, Allison draws and using her dandruff as a art utensil, and Brian was.... well Brian did whatever Brian does.
Once hour 2 hit, all (Y/N) wanted to do was sleep. She layed her head on the table and she drifted off to sleep.
.·:¨༺ ༻¨:·
(Y/N) feels herself drift back into consciousness, but keeps her eyes closed. "You're really pretty." She hears the breathy whisper of Bender. It's almost completely silent, and she probably wouldn't have caught it if she wasn't hyper-aware of his voice. "God I love you..." He whispers. She feels his fingers brush some hair out of her face, then it's silenced again.
"WAKE UP!" The cold voice of Vernon shoots (Y/N) up and almost 10 feet out of her seat. "(L/N) didn't I tell you to sit somewhere else?" (Y/N) looks around and points to herself innocently.
"Who, me?" She says, playing dumb. "I don't think so, sir." John and Andrew snicker at her antics.
"Don't play dumb with me, girl." Vernon threatens.
"I'm not, Dick. Can I call ya Dick?" She says, smiling innocently. Vernon doesn't have time to respond before (Y/N) continues. "Why would I play dumb anyways? I'm a smart girl with potential. Now Miss Standish here." She starts, gesturing towards Claire. The redhead whirls right around and makes a nasty face towards (Y/N). (Y/N) ignores it and continues her shenanigans. "She would play dumb to get what she wants, it's written all over her face!"
Vernon doesn't respond, but instead just says: "Alright girls, that's 30 minutes for lunch."
"Here?" Andrew asks.
"Here." Vernon says, firm in choice.
"Well," Andrew starts. "I think that the cafeteria is a more suitable place to eat lunch in, sir."
"Well I don't care WHAT you think, Andrew." Vernon starts. John gets a sparkle in his eyes and opens his mouth to speak. (Y/N) leans back, ready for what was about to go down.
"Uh, Dick?" John says. "Excuse me, Rich... Will MILK be made available to us?"
"We're extremely thirsty, sir." Andrew piggybacks off of John.
"I have a very low tolerance for dehydration." Claire says.
"I've seen her dehydrated, sir." Andrew says, nodding. "It's pretty gross."
After a whole scenario and a half, everyone has a coke and a lunch. Everyone eats together, John and (Y/N) being without meals. "Ya wanna do something stupid?" John whispers to his friend, his breath tickling (Y/N)'s face.
"Oh always, Dear." She says dramatically. The two start to stand up and walk out of the library.
"H-hey, we aren't supposed to do that." Brian starts.
"Relax, Peewee." John says. "We're just going to my locker. Nothin' special."
"Why? You got drugs in there or something?" Andrew asks condescendingly. (Y/N) giggles.
"Something like that."
.·:¨༺ ༻¨:·
John, (Y/N), Brian, and Claire sat in a circle, smoking joints and laughing. (Y/N) takes a hit off of her and John's shared joint, John's arm around her shoulders. Claire takes a hit off of hers and coughs.
"Chicks cannot hold they smoke." Brian says in a goofy voice, sending (Y/N) into a fit of giggles. "That's what it is."
Brian and Claire go off to Andrew and Allison, leaving John and (Y/N) alone. Bender, of course, can't help but admire (Y/N) momentarily before she says something.
"Did you mean that?" She asks, looking up at him. John looks at her odd. "What you said?"
John takes the joint from her fingers and moves it away from her. "AAAAAlright no more dope for you." He jokes. He looks at his friend's face, realizing she was dead-serious. "What do you mean what I said?"
"That I'm pretty and that you love me." (Y/N) says before repeating her question. "Did you mean it?"
John feels himself go bright red in the face. Part of him wanted to just skip over the question and blow it off. But something on her face (and also the marijuana) made him finally respond with the truth. "Yeah, I meant it."
"In a friend way?" (Y/N) asks. John REALLY wants to lie here, but he's too hopped up on weed and the feeling of (Y/N)'s body snuggled into his that he just responds with the truth, even if it feels like it's against his own will.
"No."
The two sit in silence before (Y/N) breaks it. "I love you too, John." She whispers. John turns to look at the girl. "Not in the friend way." The two sit in a content silence. They didn't need to speak any words, nor engage any actions. They were more content than any words or actions could ever activate.
After a few moments, (Y/N) leans her head on John's shoulder, and he rubs (Y/N)'s arm with his thumb, sharing the joint until it's gone. They stay like this for a while, just living in the moment.
Cuz at the end of the day, that's how John Bender and (Y/N) (L/N) roll. They take things wherever fate takes them. Sometimes it takes them somewhere fantastic, other times it takes them into some deep shit. But between us, I don't think they cared. They just liked to live in the moment.
A/N: Wow, OK that was longer than I thought it would be XD But I had to add the Brian High scene (it's my favorite in the whole movie). I actually really liked writing Y/N's character (even if I almost wrote my name more times than I can count). But yeah, more content soon :)

Pronouns and Gender in the Good Omens Universe
Neil recently said: “Angels aren't humans or mortals. They don't have genders. There isn't a pronoun you can use for them that's wrong, and unless you can speak in the tongue of the angels there's not a pronoun you can use for them that's actually right. Ditto Demons.”
Obviously, no one's going to debate Neil's pronouncements about the series! The thing is, though, that CONSISTENT gendered pronouns are used in the book, and in the series, and by Neil himself when referring to these characters. There's significant gray area here, no matter how you slice it. So...
(Who are we?
@Princess-Spock: I'm non-binary, specifically genderfluid. My pronouns are they/them for simplicity. My primary gender is agender, and is aroace; I have a wide range of other genders and sexualities.
@Twilightcitysky: I’m an allosexual, queer, cis woman with a background in healthcare, specifically sexual/reproductive health and mental health.)
Pronouns, ideally, should reflect gender… but what is gender? Gender is something we feel inside our heads. For most people, that matches up with their genitals… But not always!
Genitals do NOT determine gender!
Therefore:
A transwoman is a WOMAN, regardless of what genitals she has.
A transman is a MAN, regardless of what genitals he has.
A non-binary person is non-binary regardless of what genitals they have.
A genderfluid person might sometimes have gender that matches their genitals, but at least part of the time does not. (A gender that varies in intensity rather than going between genders is genderflux, not genderfluid.)
A couple of those terms need to be clarified:
• Non-binary means not having a “binary gender,” in other words not being one of the 2 most familiar genders, “exclusively male all the time” or “exclusively female all the time.” (Remember, bi = 2.) Non-binary does NOT mean being genderless! A non-binary person could be genderless/agender… or they might have partial gender, mixed genders, fluctuating genders (fluid or flux), xenogender, or non-specific gender.
Note: Not all non-binary people use they/them. Like everyone else, they get to choose their own pronouns. It's never acceptable to assign pronouns of your choosing to them, or to assume that they must be they/them without confirmation.
• Genderfluid means having a gender that changes periodically; a genderfluid person can have any number (other than 1) or combination of genders. The gender of a genderfluid person might change after a few minutes, or after hours, days, even months. Genderfluidity refers to gender ONLY; it does NOT refer to changes in presentation.
And what is presentation, aka gender presentation or gender expression? It’s what gender a person chooses to portray with their appearance. This can include choosing whether to wear male or female clothing, shoes and accessories… hair length and style… whether or not makeup is used… whether or not body shaping garments are worn, such as a binder to flatten the breasts, or padding to create curves... and whether or not there is facial hair, whether naturally grown or otherwise. If someone has a presentation that differs from their biological sex, they might be trans, or it could be cosplay, drag, cross-dressing, a costume, being gender non-conforming (GNC), as a sociopolitical statement (eg butch lesbians), or just for fun.
Presentation does NOT determine gender!
Some people are forced to wear whatever their culture dictates. Or whatever their family will accept. GNC people choose to not wear clothing that conforms to their gender. For some people, presentation is irrelevant, and they just wear whatever is easiest.
Because there are no elements of presentation that are specifically for any of the non-binary genders, non-binary people are typically left with some form of androgynous or GNC presentation. (@Princess-Spock: it's REALLY tricky to create a look that is neither male nor female, especially for those who, like me, don’t reshape their bodies.)
If a genderfluid person's gender changes when they aren't near their closet, their presentation might not match their gender, even if they’d prefer it to. Sometimes it's a matter of what they can afford; not everyone has the luxury of having multiple wardrobes. (@Princess-Spock: For those of us who are fortunate to have little or no dysphoria, we might skip customizing our presentation much of the time, just for simplicity.)
And just FYI:
Sexual orientation does NOT determine gender!
Specific to the fandom, there is no connection whatsoever between being asexual and being genderless/agender, or to not possessing genitals. Just because someone belongs in one of those categories does NOT mean or even suggest that they belong in the other categories. It is absolutely positively NOT correct to suggest that angels and demons are asexual simply because they don't have gender and/or genitals. (They might still be ace, of course!)
A few useful terms (these are not complete descriptions by any means):
• Asexual, sometimes abbreviated as ace, is a spectrum of sexual orientations in which a person feels little or no sexual attraction to anyone. Being asexual does NOT necessarily mean being aromantic. Also, being asexual does NOT mean not having sexual feelings, or not having and enjoying sex, although these things are true for those who are sex-averse.
• Aromantic is a spectrum of romantic attractions in which a person feels little or no romantic attraction to anyone. Being aromantic does NOT necessarily mean being asexual. And an aromantic person can still make loving connections, exchange affection like kissing or holding hands, and of course still have sex.
• Aroace refers to people who are both asexual and aromantic.
How does all this apply to the Good Omens universe? In the book, it says, “angels are sexless unless they really want to make an effort”; Neil has referred to this for the series as well. Canon isn't explicit, but most of us interpret this as, "they don’t have genitals unless they choose to." Lack of GENITALS is then often wrongly seen as lack of GENDER. Neil said, "Neither the angels nor the demons, as far as I’m concerned, are actually gendered as humans are." But, he uses human gender terms; Crowley is genderfluid, angels are non-binary (it seems like he means that they’re genderless, but that's NOT what non-binary means). Confusingly, in a 2018 post, he said:
"The angels and demons in Good Omens aren’t human, they aren’t male (nor are they female). Not that they couldn’t be male etc if they wanted to make that effort. As it says in Good Omens: ‘For those of angel stock or demon breed, size, and shape, and composition, are simply options’."
That sure looks like, YES, they CAN have gender!
More confusingly, Neil also says that his personal headcanon is NOT canon, canon is only what's in the book and the series... and none of this appears in either place. This makes the gender and thus pronoun issues a tad ambiguous. We agree 100% with Neil that people should embrace their headcanons and allow others to do the same, and so use whatever pronouns they want, and allow others to do the same. Here's how WE see Crowley and Aziraphale's genders and pronouns:
It is absolutely impossible, by definition, for a genderfluid person to be genderless ALL the time. Therefore, if Crowley is genderfluid, he MUST have gender at least part of the time! (And if he can have gender, so can all other angels and demons!)
When Mrs. Sandwich tells Crowley that he's a good lad, and he responds that he's neither, that's in line with what most genderfluid people would say; having a gender some days but not others is different from BEING that gender. Crowley has chosen a male body (male genitals, hairy chest), facial hair, generally masculine attire, and male pronouns, so it's reasonable to assume that his chosen gender is male most of the time.
We assume that he was female when he chose to wear female clothing (an abaya) in the crucifixion scene. He may also have been female during his stint as Nanny Ashtoreth, but that might have just been presentation.
During the scene where he's in heaven in S2, he has a non-binary presentation; the tracksuit is androgynous, and the accessories (headband, sparkly gold tie, fingernails, and toenails) are feminine. He might be experiencing a non-binary gender at this time.
(@Princess-Spock: Genderfluidity is very complicated. Even when Crowley "looked" female, he might have been experiencing a variety of different genders; remember, neither genitals nor presentation determine gender! In fact, since Crowley had adopted a female appearance out of necessity, not because that was his true gender at that time, he might even never have actually BEEN female during the time he was "looking" female!)
What about Aziraphale? He has all the “male stuff” that Crowley does (facial and chest hair, deep voice, etc). He has an unwaveringly masculine presentation; his hair is ALWAYS short throughout history (even when Gabriel’s is long), and his sartorial choices are traditionally and formally male (pocket watch on a chain, French cuffs with cufflinks), with no hint of the modern androgyny of jeans and T-shirts… strong evidence that his chosen gender is male.
Neil always refers to Aziraphale and Crowley as he/him (he stated that Crowley was presenting female as Nanny Ashtoreth and at the crucifixion, but no pronoun is used either time). The book and the script book always refer to Aziraphale and Crowley as he/him. Aziraphale and Crowley always refer to each other as he/him. Michael and David have always referred to Aziraphale and Crowley as he/him. So, he/him is our personal choice.
What about the pronouns of other supernatural characters?
Beelzebub:
He/him in the book. She/her in the script book. For S1, Neil said, “I don’t think there were any. Probably Zzzzzzir.” They/them for S2 (“but they're always such a little ray of sunshine” in E3).
Dagon:
In the book, no pronouns are used, but all male titles; Lord, Master, Under-Duke. He/him in the script book. No pronouns used in the show or by Neil.
Muriel:
They/them canonically, but referred to by Quelin Sepulveda, the actress who plays Muriel, as she/they. It seems like the gender perception of the actor who embodies a character has to count for something; if Quelin was perceiving Muriel as partly female, that's an intrinsic part of who Muriel IS. We think we should honor that. (Neil has had plenty of opportunity to debate Quelin's usage, but never has.)
(Food for thought: If we accept this sort of "mixed" pronoun usage as valid in the Good Omens universe, it could apply to other angels or demons, not just to Muriel!)
Archangels played by actresses:
In the script book, when Aziraphale speaks to the 4 archangels, it says; “The room of angels in slick suits. There are four of them, male and female.” It doesn't specify WHO is female, though, and ALL the archangels have non-female pronouns elsewhere in the book, so...?
Uriel:
"He" in the script book, no pronouns otherwise.
Michael:
“He” in the script book. Neil has used "they."
Angels and demons played by male actors:
All of them are referred to with male pronouns, both within the series and by Neil. However:
Hastur:
Briefly had a female appearance in the scene where Aziraphale and Crowley are kidnapped, but no pronouns were used at the time. In the script book, the “lady tourist” is referred to as "she" when whacking Crowley… and then is referred to as "her" even AFTER transforming into Hastur with a wig.
Ligur:
In the book, Ligur was intriguingly referred to as “it” while he was dying, but immediately thereafter was referred to as "he." That paragraph appears almost word for word in the script book; it refers to him as "he" instead of "it."
Sandalphon:
Referred to in the script book as "it." (“Sandalphon grins, pleased with itself. Then it sniffs the air.”)
Metatron:
"He" in the book and season 2.
God:
Neil said: Jesus uses "Father". Aziraphale uses "She" pronouns for God and Crowley uses "They". I don't think the God in the Good Omens TV universe has a gender.
In the book, Aziraphale, Crowley and Metatron refer to God as He. In the script book, Aziraphale refers to God as She, and Crowley refers to God as They and She.
We think the bottom line is: These are FICTIONAL characters inhabiting a universe where there are few canonical rules for pronouns or gender for supernatural beings. This is a perfect vehicle for choice, which has so much importance to the story. You may start out on opposite sides, you may start out as a genderless being, you may start out as a sexless being, but you can choose something different for yourself. The importance of choice in Good Omens is one of the things that makes it great!
There’s a lot of fic and art that depicts the characters in different ways; everyone should feel comfortable portraying them the way they choose without the worry that someone is going to be upset with them. We’ve both seen a lot of comments to the tune of, “you’re not using the correct pronouns” or “that’s not the correct sexual orientation,” and that’s not good fandom etiquette. Being open-minded and kind to one another as we flesh out this universe for ourselves is just basic courtesy. Neil himself has said that in fandom, any interpretation is valid! The Good Omens fandom is largely a microcosm of the queer community; we need to practice acceptance amongst ourselves, so that we can stand together against those in the wider world who want to tear us down!
Anyone who wants to discuss personal gender issues can feel free to message @Princess-Spock; remember that if you ask anonymously, there's no way to reply to you!

DC trans week day 3
Prompt: Non-binary. Coming out discussion!
tw: for what could be slight transphobia, just in case
~~~~~
“Society doesn’t care what you want. You have to decide what you want and what you’re willing to do for it.” Kon tells him. "Society doesn't care about you, so don't let it dictate your life."
“That’s great, when it comes to things like world peace or whatever. But sometimes it’s hard to muster up that much fight just for yourself. Just little you against all of society’s expectations. Against the fear of judgment cast down by family and friends. I grew up knowing that I couldn’t tell my parents. At this point, I guess I’m just resigned. I’m used to living this way, It’s fine now.” He waves him off, turning away, but Kon flies around so he’s in front of him again.
“Tim, you know you deserve to fight for yourself too. We’ll fight with you.”
“This would be me going against everything I’ve been told since I was a child. I know what I was born into, what expectations people have of me. I’ve lived through society yelling and shoving me into a box. Telling me their constant opinions through tabloids and press. My parents telling me what I am, how to be, what I should be doing, how I should be dressing. They told me exactly how to appear to the world and they expected it. This is not something to be public with, it's private. I’ve long since learned, how you act in public and how you are in private are two separate things. It’s not a battle that needs to be fought, especially not one I need to force anyone else into.”
“Your parents shouldn’t have done that. But they’re not even here anymore, and you know that we don’t care! I mean, half of us are gay anyways. None of us would care how you identify. They would care that you’re keeping things from us, hiding such a big part of yourself for no reason!”
“Even those accepting of otherness sometimes don’t understand the answer ‘I don’t know’ or, even worse, ‘multiple of these things’. The world is binary, black and white. People don’t understand when they tell you to choose and not only do you not ‘choose’ but the answer is somehow ‘all of the above’. Even you, now, telling me it’s fine to ‘come out’. Come out as what? Unsure? Some secret third option, but not even I know what that is?”
“Sure, if that’s how you feel.” Kon is too calm about this, Tim feels. But he has run his anger and frustration dry and now just feels like crying. Or sleeping. Or crying himself to sleep. “Start with me. What pronouns do you want? Do you have a term or a label that you feel fits you, or do you prefer to go without labels?”
Tim huffs. Falls to the ground cross-legged. Kon comes over and sits down next to him. “Non-binary, I guess. Can’t really get more specific than that.”
“Pronouns?” Kon encouraged after a moment of silence.
Tim just shrugs. “None of them, all of them. Honestly, they annoy me because the whole point of pronouns is to talk about someone while they’re not there. Just use my name.”
“Name it is then.” Kon nudged Tim with his shoulder, and Tim slumped against him.
One manifestation of the oppression of disabled people and young people is the collectivization of what should be purely individual decisions.
This is also why I identify so strongly as a liberal individualist, and why I believe that disability liberation requires a liberal individualist ethic.
I got into an argument with some people about parents "sending" their adult children to college (in the context of the spate of articles/discourse about "Don't send your daughter to college in an anti-abortion state") and, frustratingly enough, I didn't even get a chance to talk about what I actually wanted to talk about, which was educational coercion as a red flag for reproductive coercion (because if parents are sufficiently controlling of their adult daughter's life that they feel comfortable dictating where she's allowed to go to college, it seems probable that their support for abortion rights is motivated less by a commitment to reproductive autonomy and more by wanting the option to coerce their daughter into an abortion whether or not that's what she wants).
But I didn't even get to make that secondary point, because people kept insisting that parents controlling/restricting where their adult daughters can go to college isn't even a thing. I was completely imagining it! Or misunderstanding it! That's not a real thing!
They seemed to think that I seemed to think that parents were hog-tying their daughters and dragging them kicking and screaming off to university -- and that any coercion just short of that is "her choice" and not coercion at all.
And that's not what most forms of familial coercion look like at all -- at least not familial coercion of legal adults who theoretically (but not in practice) have legal autonomy.
Familial coercion of theoretically legally autonomous adults more often takes the form of collectivizing what should be a purely individual decision. Along with financial abuse, it's the go-to tactic of controlling families. Sometimes it's a last resort before pulling the trigger of institutionalization, and sometimes it's just the default way of interacting. Just explain to the person you're trying to control what We As A Family have decided is best. Or maybe you ask her thoughts, make her feel included in the process. She should have a say. You're taking her wishes into account.
It's always a huge red flag when someone "has a say" or is "included in the process" of a decision that should be solely xyrs in the first place.
See, I almost said "that should solely be theirs," because I usually use singular "they" as the gender-neutral pronoun to refer to a general person like "someone" or "anyone." But I avoid it when I'm writing about autonomy issues, because people are so eager to interpret "they" as collective. I have so many conversations like: "Every disabled person should have the right to choose where they live." "Yes, every Special Needs Family should decide what's best for them as a family." or "Everyone should have the right to make their own medical decisions about their own body." "Yes, every care team should decide for each patient as an individual, on a case-by-case basis."
So in those contexts, I choose my words more carefully.
Sometimes this is framed as some kind of "fairness," and people who want complete autonomy are framed as "unfair" or "unwilling to compromise" or "wanting everything your own way" -- which is also framed as "immaturity," and obviously, if you're too immature to just be reasonable about other people trying to control your life, then surely you're too immature to make your own decisions!
But if the topic is your own body and your own life, you should want everything your own way, actually. You shouldn't have to compromise, actually. It's yours. It doesn't get put to a vote! It doesn't get referred to a committee! It's yours.
made with speech to text. I can't find the post, and I forget who posted it, but I saw somebody saying that Leslie Feinberg was transmasculine and I just want to start hitting people
No people, you do not get to fucking go around deciding that people were transmasculine simply because they were assigned female at birth. What part of "it is harmful to push your own specific modern ideas and identities onto historical figures who have no way of speaking up for themselves" do you not understand.
Stop forcing non-binary people into a new binary box and acting like it is progressive. Stop assigning dead people the gender identities that you personally identify with when their own words about their identity are right fucking there for you to see and respect.
If you can't respect Leslie Feinberg without saying that sie was transmasculine because you are a biological and gender essentialist and can only relate to transmasculine people, you have a fucking problem and you are exorsexist
Do not assign dead people gender identities that they did not hold. That's fucking misgendering. This is not a difficult fucking concept. I know you people understand that misgendering is bad.
But I also know none of you people care about non-binary people and think it's okay to call us whatever binary terms you come up with, but that's literally not how this fucking works. Stop fucking misgendering people, stop fucking misgendering dead people. Stop assuming that dead people who cannot correct you would be perfectly fine with you assigning them transmasculine for any other brand new fucking gender identity that you use as a synonym for what you are assigned at birth.
Leslie Feinberg's identity is not something you get to fucking change and dictate to benefit yourself. Being assigned female at birth does not make you transmasculine. They are not fucking synonyms even if you use them that way. Transmasculine is not a synonym for any person assign female at birth who dresses masculinely or identifies as masculine.
It is a specific fucking gender identity. And you do not get to assign it to people who have literally no fucking say in the matter because they're fucking dead.
You people cannot fucking go around assuming that because a non-binary person was assigned female at birth that means that they would be okay with you calling them trans masculine after their death.
I swear to gods when I die someday I'm going to come back to haunt every fucking extrasexist sack of shit that decides to misgender me by applying the brand new made up binary terms that they just came up with to erase nonbinary people.
If you actually care about trans people, then that requires that you not fucking apply gender identities after their fucking death that they did not fucking identify with in life. You are not fucking helping anyone. And yes it is still fucking misgendering even if you think it's a positive thing to do. If you can only stand in solidarity with people who share your exact identity, including dead people that you are assigning this identity to when they have no way to fucking choose that for themselves anymore, you're not standing in solidarity with anyone.
We cannot just go around casually assigning dead trans people gender identities that they did not identify with when they were alive and call yourself an ally. And no you do not get a free pass for this shit even if you're also nonbinary.
"Don't fucking misgender people and assume people's genders" is how to be an ally 101 and you fucking people can't even manage that
Feinberg stated in a 2006 interview that her pronouns varied depending on context:
For me, pronouns are always placed within context. I am female-bodied, I am a butch lesbian, a transgender lesbian—referring to me as "she/her" is appropriate, particularly in a non-trans setting in which referring to me as "he" would appear to resolve the social contradiction between my birth sex and gender expression and render my transgender expression invisible. I like the gender neutral pronoun "ze/hir" because it makes it impossible to hold on to gender/sex/sexuality assumptions about a person you're about to meet or you've just met. And in an all trans setting, referring to me as "he/him" honors my gender expression in the same way that referring to my sister drag queens as "she/her" does.
#Exorsexism#Misgendering#leslie feinberg#It's one thing to say that sie might have identified with that is sie were still alive today#But you literally do not get to fucking decide for yourself that this is how sie did identify retroactively because you said so#Because you are extra sexist and biologically and gender essentialist#And think that transmasculine is a synonym for every single trans person assigned female at birth#made with speech to text
My philosophy on "who should be allowed in the queer community" is everyone, fuck you, we don't have a right to dictate who is and isn't queer, what are you a cop. If you think you can Tell if someone is queer just by looking at them, you are mistaken. If you think you have the right to go all oppression Olympics on some random guy who just wants someone to talk to about how shit got weird with his parents after he said he doesn't want to date anyone, you are mistaken. If you think you have the right to decide which labels are Too Weird to be queer, then quite frankly I think you don't know what queer actually means. We're all fucking weird. We're all freaks in the eyes of our oppressors. Shut up about lesboys, shut up about aroallos, shut up about it/its and neo pronouns and xenogenders and weird kinksters. They want us all dead. If we want to get through this we need to support each other. Have your fellow queers back because you'd want someone to do the same for you. Stop taking part in the constant shaming and harassment of trans women. Stop shitting on every identity you haven't seen before. Listen to intersex people when they talk about their experiences and fucking believe them. Support your fellow queers. If we want to get anything done we have to give a shit about each other.
dude now I'm just sitting here staring at a wall thinking abt how fucked up being lgbt is...
Don't get me wrong I'm happier knowing who I am and I shudder to think what would be of me if I had never found out, there's so many queer people out there that will welcome you with open arms and guide you through or just simply offer you a shoulder to cry on and that's wonderful I love that and we need more of that
But then there's the rest of the people, the assholes that want you dead just for existing, the ones that are less vocally hateful and might tolerate being in a room with you but should you need anything they'd rather let you starve than approach, the "I support you but" people that say are open minded and supportive but the moment you cross some invisible line of theirs you are no longer "one of the good ones" and must be dealt with.
We've all seen these people, they might be strangers, coworkers, acquaintances, friends, family and even our partners and their words and actions hurt like knives. But a lot of us have learned that we shouldn't waste our time with them if we can avoid it, turn around, block them, leave the room, move out of the house if you can, we can do these things
But what happens when the hatred is coming from inside the community itself? I cannot begin to tell you how soul breaking it is for me when I see discourse like "LGBT without the T!" or "Asexuality doesn't belong in the LGBT" or "If you're bi but in a straight relationship then you're a liar/traitor" or "If you don't pass as your gender then you're not truly trans" and these are just some off the top of my head, there are so many more and even if they don't personally affect me it still hurts me to see it so much.
You're not making the community nicer or safer by dictating how someone should exist, there are no "traitors" there are no "liars" there are no "pretenders" everyone is just trying to live their life while staying true to themselves but everyone around them is constantly telling them they are wrong for it, not gonna lie to you I'm sometimes afraid that I'll get someone telling me I'm not truly nonbinary because I'm not androgynous or use they/them and I'm easily perceived as a woman, I get afraid I'll be told that what I'm doing is just a phase by other queer people despite the fact that I've been trans since I was 14 and it took me all those years to be able to come to terms with the fact that yes I love dresses, yes I like makeup, yes I'm fine with she/her pronouns, yes I sometimes find it endearing to be called a girl, but no I am not a woman and I'll never be.
But guess what? being afab carries this weird notion that I am somehow harmless or at least less of an issue than lets see uhh oh yeah amab trans people! trans women get labeled predators, groomers and a danger to everyone around them so often and the punishment for not passing as their desired gender is far greater than anything I've ever personally received. People have let these notions about birth genders and sexualities carry on to their trans views in macabre and harmful ways. You want to be wary of men? sure, there's an extensive history of issues that make your fears rational and justified... but why are you pointing your finger at a trans woman? Because she has stubble or a beard? no long hair? doesn't like dresses? doesn't want hrt or surgeries of any kind? has a deep voice? because she has "male interests"? do you not realize how harmful that is?
That's not to say trans men don't get a similar treatment, but I don't see them being labeled as dangerous and violent even half as much as trans women do, it's this notion that being born with a penis somehow makes you vile or something???? unless you prove to us how innocent and righteous you are by looking exactly how I want you to, staying 5 meters away from me and never displaying any sort of sexual attraction towards anyone ever otherwise I am calling the police on you
That's bogus nonsense and I'm absolutely tired of it, stop carrying societies old and nasty views of gender and sexuality into this community that is about supporting and uplifting people no matter how they want to be, and while we're at it someone's presentation and physical appearance isn't indicative of their morality
I wish every trans woman on tumblr right now that feels afraid to speak up about the current situation or even just their life experiences as a trans person a very very happy rest of their lives, and I wish every trans woman who IS speaking up about stuff a very happy rest of their lives as well
Again just so we're clear, I'm nonbinary and afab she/he he/she whatever order so I should in theory not be the target to any uhh "mysterious" blog bans and stuff, however if my blog dies after this post know that I did not do it myself.
Stand up for trans women always and forever, we are all fighting together and there is no glory in hurting each other
#demos ramblings#transgender#nonbinary#tw transphobia#last couple of weeks ive just felt like... so unsafe abt being trans and shit#both online and offline#but im not like being actively targeted by a malicious force#trans women however ARE#and it sickens me#i dont expect this post to get a shit ton of notes thats not really why i made it#its more of like a vent post ig#but in case it did i still put the warning abt if i get nuked or not#lowkey afraid of it happening but again im no trans woman so the posibility is small#but who knows maybe im fem presenting enough that they hate me lol#long post#important
Burack Rant
"FUCK IT SO MUUUUUCH" here's my burack ship thread post cause I need to ramble about them feel free to not read this I just need to let my silly little thoughts out 😁
Burack is a ship that consists of Burt and Mack from In Space with Markiplier (ISWM) They have three ships names ship name number one is burack; which is just their names joint together
Now before I get to the other two ship names I have to say Mack has two variations Crew Member Mack (pictured on the left) and Dictator/Head Engineer Mack (pictured on the right) and Burt is a reactor specialist so his title is featured in both ship names
It should also be said that these are both Mack but in different universes, in crew member Mack's universe he isn't head engineer (though we can assume he is an engineer) and in the universe where he is Head engineer he basically takes over the role of engineer mark (pictured)
(cont.) who is basically the captain's (/y/n's) right hand man but in a universe where Mack is head engineer we see that he takes on a lot more of a dictator role if you allow him to take control of the ship, if you don't allow him to do this he essentially has an identity crisis and becomes mark (don't ask)
So thus their other two ship names are born with their second ship name being theoryreactor: it's a mix of Mack's crew self (seeing as he's simply deemed theory crew in the credits) and Burt's title of reactor specialist
It is likely Mack is deemed "theory crew" in this universe due to being played by matpat (creator of game, film, food, and style theory) that leads us to our third ship name corruptreactor: which is a combination of dictator mack and burt's reactor specialist title
Corrupt refers to how Mack is a very corrupt leader who takes advantage of those he rules over. Generally speaking I usually alternate their ship names but if I wanna get more specific these are the ships names I use.
Burack; all Burt and Mack variants
Theoryreactor; crew member Mack/all Macks [This is pretty much their default name that I lean to] - I also think theoryreactor is funny because someone can react to a theory and be a theory reactor.. idk
Corruptreactor; dictator Mack
Corrupttheory; evil/dictator Burt (very rare variation that is usually only based on au/HC)
No real distinction between ships names but if only one of them is evil or dictatory it's likely one sided (and angsty!)
Okay now that we got all their general info out of the way here are my headcanons for them!
Burt is trans guy but he doesn't really care what pronouns you use on them, they're just here. He's also panromantic and asexual. I give him a lot of angst but I swear I love him!
For example Burt had a husband and 2 children on earth but his husband died a year prior to him going on the space ship and he had to leave his children on the dying planet earth knowing they would die. ( I am evil ) Burt now feels guilty pursuing relationships. Due to how recent his husband's death was (or maybe it's been decades at this point who knows) he still feels bad and just pushes his feelings for Mack aside. That's all for Burt but now let's talk about Mack...
Mack is trans? (I really don't know I just know they're not cis...) they use they/he/it pronouns. He's also aromantic and gay. Crew Member Mack often finds himself unintentionally competing with Mark often feeling unworthy and like he doesn't deserve his job as crew member. Burt and him have a good relationship and Burt continues to tell them they're worthy, but Mack isn't able to take the praise as truth as he doesn't have a lot of friends or people who like them on the crew, they believe Burt's only friends with them out of pity. Hence why they often end up pushing her away.
Dictator Mack has a lot of identity issues as he knows he's not supposed to be here and he knows Mark's supposed to exist in his place ( but he'll never tell anyone this ) Burt and him have a generally okay relationship but it can be toxic... Mack will use Burt for his own selfish needs often times dismissing Burt entirely. He doesn't hate Burt he more so thinks very little of them. Burt tries to help Mack as best he can due to his respect for him but it can difficult. Burt feels some responsibility to help Mack as they're the only one Mack has opened up to. ( Mack seriously needs therapy ).
that's all for now friends if you read all the way here you get a cookie! 🍪
#this is taken from my Twitter if you've seen it before#burack#theoryreactor#corruptreactor#i created this ship and I will die with it#iswm#in space with markiplier#mack iswm#burt iswm#hcs#headcanons#muyskerm#matpat
CIS PEOPLE CANNOT DECIDE THE PARAMETERS FOR SOMEONE TO BE TRANS OR NOT
I'M FUCKING TIRED OF A CIS COMING TO ME AND SAYING I'M NOT A MAN BECAUSE I HAVE LONG HAIR, BECAUSE I LIKE DRESSES OR HIGH HEELS
THIS IS MY FUCKING LIFE AND I WILL CHOOSE HOW TO LIVE IT, I WILL CHOOSE HOW I WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED, I HAVE CONTROL OVER MY LIFE, NOT YOU
After this scream I'm going to vent a little because even though I'm a hard rock to break, it doesn't mean that things don't affect me
If they don't hurt me anymore, it will be very difficult for you to hurt me, you know, especially about my trans experience. It's hard enough to offend me, so getting hurt is even harder
But it doesn't mean it doesn't affect me, and it affects and affects me, frustrating me, making me mad at a level where I often question how someone is so stupid
There's this woman (cis straight) and we were from a common group and we became friends, everything was fine, we had similar tastes, etc
But she did something that really irritated me, which was writing Mpreg, if you don't know why this is transphobic, etc. I genuinely don't feel like explaining now, but feel free to send me a message and I'll explain it better later and no, it's not necessarily forbidden to write Mpreg because of this, ok? It's more complicated than it looks
But I ignored it and like I said, mpreg is transphobic but being a writer or artist who uses it doesn't make you one, it's different, you know
But I started to notice the signs, one of the first was how she REFUSED to write trans men when it came to mpreg, she said she simply didn't like it and felt it wasn't her style, She also said that she would much rather have men giving birth through the ass than using a natural biological process that is men giving birth through a vagina
You may not see transphobia in this but it's fucking weird
And then I also started to realize that she was strangely obsessed with gay ships, to the level of just liking them and refusing to imagine them with women or accept other couples
It was also very strange that she EXCLUSIVELY liked gay couples, seriously, both the extreme of only liking LGBT couples and only liking straight couples is problematic, ok?
And now I found out that she also came up with this talk about Yamato being a woman, and I just started to get pissed off because it wasn't just like, oh that's my opinion, She spoke in a way that was like, this is a fucking truth and if you don't believe it, you're seeing something that isn't there
AND HOLY SHIT, WHAT IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE WANTING TO DICTATE WHAT MAKES SOMEONE BE TRANS OR NOT???
WHY DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY THAT A CHARACTER IS NOT TRANS WHEN YOU ARE A FUCKING CIS??? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE TRANS
And all her arguments were bullshit about Yamato only being inspired by Oden, what a holy shit it already happened, right, use a real argument, holy shit
I'm just fucking tired of people like this
People who aren't even trans thinking they know what it's like to be trans, who know how trans people manifest themselves and expose themselves
No, no, Yamato took showers with men because he likes Luffy, ahem, of course that was it
No, no, Yamato continued using male pronouns even after saying he no longer wanted to be Oden due to Oda's mistake, of course
No, no, Yamato being called son by Kaido himself which only shows that his father knew and supported, besides showing the rest of the world calling him daughter is not a parallel for trans people who are in the closet and can only come out to their parents and sometimes not even that, Of course not, Oda would never think of that pfft
I'm tired, tired of seeing stupid people, because seriously, a person is not stupid because they don't know something, a person is stupid because they refuse to learn something
And transphobes and homophobes are the stupidest people on the face of the earth because they will always refuse to learn
And besides being funny, it's kind of sad, because they never keep it to themselves, they always need to attack others to prove it
Well I never think anyone reads my huge posts but I like to vent on them because I like tumblr
So my dear trans colleague, don't be discouraged, don't be afraid, don't give up
Because you are a star that will still shine brightly in this sky and these idiots will be far below you, millions of light years away, seeing only an illusion of your light, because you will be so badass and so brilliant, that they won't be able to come close to admire your true light
———————————
- I feel like you probably had to convince him to do anything sexual with him. Not because he was conflicted on the idea but mostly because you know he’s a dictator. He’s too focused on trying to make sure that he has control over everyone in the kingdom. You're just surprised that managed to get him considering who he was known for. However, once you finally manage to convince him, let me tell you you’ve never met someone as kinky as him. He’s not a freak in nature but he isn’t the most vanilla person in the world. He has a set of things he’s into and uses them to his full advantages. He aint stopping till he’s satisfied with the result he has on you. He’s surprisingly really good.
- He’s probably more dominant when it comes to performing sexual acts. As I said he likes to have control over everything and it's still the same when he wants to fuck you. He likes to control every part of the experience, examples of this being when you can or can’t cum. If you're giving him a blowjob he likes to have his hand in your hair and control how fast you're going or how much of his cock is in your mouth etc. Honestly it gives this sense of weird pleasure just seeing you following what he says not questioning his actions. It turns him on a lot.
- As for his dick size I like to think he’s just a bit away from being considered above average while still maintaining some thickness to it. Just like my LDO Mario smut HC’s Secret History Mario is just another version of Mario so pretty much he’s the same size Mario is. He doesn’t really care or mind about what his dick looks like; he's too focused on making you feel good. If his dick makes you cum he’s satisfied with that.
- For masturbating I feel like he does do it but it’s on a pretty rare occasion. One of these occasions could be when he’s in the middle of his work and all of a sudden he’s thinking very impure thoughts of you and his dick decides to express his excitement which causes him to forget about his current task and forces him to sort it out. Honestly this kind of annoys him. Not at you but mostly at himself for getting distracted but if he knows it might be a while till he sees you again he just sorts himself out which gives him the same satisfaction sort of.
- Surprisingly he can kinda clingy during the time you two do it with each other. Having you close up with him, full blowing making out with you from your lips to your neck as he’s feeling up and down your body. Just think of it as some sort of foreplay as he’ preparing you for what he has in store for you to experience.
- He’s definitely into some sort of restriction/bondage. He likes seeing you tied up as he thrusts his cock inside of you making you whine out in protest. He can’t help but smirk to himself as he sees his cock going in and out of you having his hands roaming all over your body leaving nothing untouched, having a hand around your throat or even tightly gripping onto your waist so his cock can go deeper inside of you makes him so happy he can’t help but praise you for doing so well to please him.
- I feel like he also likes to have one of his cigarettes in his hand or mouth while he’s fucking you. He honestly doesn’t know why he does that’s just how he is. Maybe he has an addiction but who cares. He isn’t really seen without one so do be prepared to seem him with one as he’s fucking you and for the smell of nicotine filling the air.
- I kind of like to think he’s into brat taming. Or basically any kink when he has to punish you for being naughty. Just a warning he can be a bit rough when doing this but that’s how he thinks you will learn a lesson. He likes to have you bend over on a surface having your ass up slightly as he’s smacking your ass gently rubbing the area giving you some relief before slapping once again not stopping till you admit your wrong doings. Even when your eyes are watering and your ass is turning a lovely shade of red he continues this. He likes to be told he was right about something. It’s just some sort of pride/ego problem he has. Regardless though once he thinks you’ve had enough he does comfort you letting you recover from the pain before going into whatever he’s planning next.
- He definitely likes to have blowjobs under the desk. Sometimes he likes to invite you to his office, making you think he just wants some quality time before finding yourself on your knees sucking his cock. Honestly you don’t mind though. For some reason he finds himself getting turned on at the thought of someone possibly walking in not knowing what’s going on under the desk. He also likes to use it as some sort of stress relief for when work is getting too much for him a simple blowjob from you is enough to get rid of it for him. That as well as having you bend over the desk or sitting on the desk as he fucks you from behind or grabbing onto your waist as he fucks you.
- I also like to think he likes it when you sit on his face. Regardless of gender he likes just having you on his face making you climax from him eating you out/sucking you off. Even when you have climaxed he keeps his arms on your legs forcing you to stay in that position as he feels your body trembling on top of his. He’s practically getting himself addicted to it and makes you cum over and over again till he gets tired of it.
- He’s really into pet names whether it is in a praising way or a degrading way. It really depends on his mood. It’s sometimes unpredictable whether you’d get called a whore by him or if he praises you for doing a good job. Or even a combination of both. Calling you his little slut, his good girl/boy or whatever terms you prefer. Giving you a pet name in Italian if he’s feeling extra spicy. He likes giving you pet names.
- He’s an extreme tease but it really depends on what mood he’s in. If it’s something like in 8th point e.g. a quick blowjob. He doesn’t tease you. This might be a slight favour in himself due to the circumstance but he prefers to not waste anytime. In situations like this he has a point to reach. He wants to actually reach said point whether it's for his or your own gain. However if it’s in a situation when it’s just you and him. No one to interrupt. Nothing that’s going to happen and the two of you have all the time in the world you can bet he’s taking his time and teasing the ever living fuck out of you. In these situations he’s taking his sweet ass time feeling every point of you whether it's with his hand, mouth or cock he isn’t rushing. As long as he doesn't have any future plans in the set amount of time he has he’s planning on using every single second with you.
- When it comes to sex drive he kind of has a sort of low sex drive. Considering the things that can actually affect someone’s sex drive he smokes and isn’t really that active. Mostly sitting in a chair only getting up if he needs to (e.g. when he decided to ‘kill’ sonic for being more popular than him in the original animation). So he doesn’t find himself having sex too often but his sexual thoughts are just fine regardless of sex drive. He also can be really horny when he does decide to have sex and can actually last a few rounds.
Hi, feel free to ignore. I don’t know why this is making me panic so much but I’m a writer and I write Sodo being called Sodo instead of Dewdrop, some ghost fans seem to be getting a little mad that he’s not being called Dewdrop and I was wondering why you decided to call him Sodo?
Im unfortunately a chronic people pleaser and this is kind of tearing me apart part, I’m so very confused.
(I admire you very much by the way rat for sticking to your own beliefs and Hc’s and not going against your beliefs to please one person you don’t even know through a screen)
hi!
i believe the reason people get pissy about sodo being called sodo and not dewdrop (bleh) is because the man behind the mask is called the sodomizer and even has a tattoo of the word on his stomach, which leads people to apparently lose their minds because "it's disrespectful" to him by "blurring the line between him and the character" which is just nonsense, honestly.
sodo started out as a bassist, which would make him a water ghoul, so he was named dewdrop because compared to the rest of the band at the time, he was relatively small.
however, he is now the main guitarist. a fire ghoul. i do not see how a fire ghoul would be called dewdrop.
it's even more silly when you realize that papa called sodo that (well, sodomizer, which sodo is a short form of) multiple times. hell, at my own ritual, we were yelling out sodo.
the people behind the ghouls masks are very much aware of what we call them. at least some of them (sodo, aether and phantom definitely) are and they have no problem with being called that. sodo reacts to being called sodo.
fun fact, there was also a discourse about how apparently he's uncomfortable with dewdrop, but from what i've read, it wasn't from him, it was just misinformation which spreads in the fandom at a ridiculously fast pace.
for me personally, there are a few reasons i chose sodo over dewdrop.
one, it's a fucking fire ghoul. i'm not calling a fire ghoul dewdrop.
two, i view switching elements as something similar to being trans. partially because i'm trans myself. calling him dewdrop feels to me like deadnaming him.
three, it's a bit similar to mary goore's pronouns for me. while mary can be a he/they or a they/them, calling mary goore a "he" makes me uncomfortable. calling sodo dewdrop also makes me uncomfortable.
and lastly, i just don't like the name, in all honesty.
in the end, i believe that what he's called will depend on your own opinions and maybe when you joined the fandom, but calling sodo anything other than sodo feels wrong to me, so i'm sticking with that. i do accept asks where he's called dewdrop, but i always call him sodo either way.
if people are getting mad at you for this and making you panic, inform them that this is your choice as a writer and they are free to leave whenever they fucking please. it's your art. as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, you should be free to do anything you please with it. and calling a character a different name isn't gonna hurt anyone, trust me.
the people getting pissed at you probably have nothing better to do with their time. if i can skip a post with sodo being called dewdrop and ignore a post with mary being called a "he", they can ignore your posts/fics if they don't like a name or a headcanon. and if they don't and they seek out drama over something so petty, their opinions aren't worth caring about.
i used to be a chronic people pleaser, too, back when i wrote fanfiction on wattpad. and let me tell you, it made me feel terrible. i was pushing out chapters and publishing pieces i didn't like because people liked them. i was genuinely convinced my work was bad because it made me feel bad to write it.
eventually i decided to let go, completely switched out a fanfic in a way that people hated but also made me much happier. it's your writing and your decisions. other people don't get to dictate that. i'm sticking with my own headcanons because it's my blog. i made this blog. i am the main writer. if you disagree with a headcanon, you can move past my blog and go read someone else's fanfiction.
the best piece of advice that i can offer you, anon, is to remember that you're one of the people you're supposed to please. and the only one that truly matters in the end. if you ever wanna talk about those things, send me an ask on my main and i'll dm you (non-mutuals can't dm me for personal reasons) so we can talk more.
people suck. have fun writing.
- nosferatu
i’m a younger guy, who lives with his parents. my mom isn’t very conservative but my dad is, and he’s the main one who tries to influence me. he’s not outright homophobic or transphobic, but he’s very iffy about it all.
i call myself a guy because i’m not sure. i’m AMAB, but lately i’ve been questioning my gender and sexuality. im pretty sure im bisexual, but im most confused about gender.
what do you call it when someone wants to be feminine but not necessarily a girl? sort of like non-binary but in a girly way as opposed to androgynous. (sorry if i’m not using correct terminology, i haven’t had much freedom to explore the community.) I like the pronouns He and They for myself, but when someone calls me she (almost always as a joke) it fills me with joy, just to be received femininely.
Do you have any kind of advice? I know that was a lot and i’m sorry, but thank you for your time.
hello there!
sorry for the delay in replying! hope you have been doing well and are safe! sorry to hear your dad is such a hard figure to work with, some folks just refuse to let go of the control they have over others. i hope you will be able to spend more time with your mom and other supportive folks who will be able to help you come out or experiment with being yourself!
that would be transfeminine & transfemme for you, since all they mean is transitioning to femininity! femby and femme enby are also terms i've seen used! demigirl or gxrl may also apply. i'm glad you're figuring out what you want to do with yourself and your presentation! you do not have to identify as a girl to be feminine, and i hope you're able to get what you need in order to feel more like yourself! and im really glad being called she gives you so much joy, you deserve that!
the sky is really the limit with being nonbinary, you are allowed to dictate what you do with it and how you present. nonbinary people don't have to go full tilt into androgyny or gender neutrality, i know many nonbinary femmes! and if you find that more specific labels don't fit you, that's okay! calling yourself transfem/me nonbinary would get the point across very easily, but you are free to choose how you express it! take care, good luck out there, let us know if you need anything else, we're glad to have heard from you!
