random thought but i just. arggrhgh i love the vibe toby fox creates in both undertale and deltarune where despite all the silliness and fun and joy, there's this constant feeling of sort of repressed sadness that permeates the whole thing as well. its something that i really really love

There's no time to explain who am I, so im gonna show you my own take on Horrortale Yellow.

This au's name doesn't need to be explained, the underground sets in an uncanny ambient after a neutral route in general, but based on Undertale Yellow's timeline, the underground sets in this ambient after a neutral route made by Integrity.

Each area like The Dark Ruins and Snowfall (Lower Snowdin) are based on the horsemen of the apocalypse in order: Death (Ruins), Pestilence (Snowdin), Famine (Dunes/The Wild East), War (Steamworks and UG Apartments), and finally, the last area called "Clover's judgement" can be heaven or hell depending of the route (genocide, neutral or pacifist (NOT FLAWED), where your fate will be sealed if you choose to fight Zenith Martlet, Kitsune Ceroba or Flowey.

Monsters CAN bleed in this au if they arent at a very low HP but still damaged, if they lost all their HP they turn into dust normally along with the blood.

I dont have enough energy to explain every character's deep lore on this au, so im gonna say their general characteristics:

Clover is 10-years old, they escaped from home and fell from a mountain on accident, without having any bandages or any gun, they have to dodge every attack to not to die. They fell in a flower bed that had spines on it, making them lose a part of their vision and getting hurt, leaving them with a very low HP permanently at the beginning.

Dalv is a REAL vampire this time, he will try to attack Clover no matter if theyre friends or not, but Dalv knows is better for Clover to leave his house for their own good if they want to survive. Dalv is selectively mute and has vampire urges that need to be satisfied. He lost a horn in a fight that he doesnt remember.

Martlet lives in Snowfall where there is a fungus infection that was born after the dust mixed with very cold snow on trees that made a fungus live on fruits and honey panels. Martlet is infected and a bit hungry, but she would never attack a poor child. She's vulnerable to cold and diseases, she's is in the late-third phase of infection where fungus take place on her physical body and cant fly.

Ceroba lives in the dunes where everyone fights and eat themselves to survive, concluding on cannibalism and blood, everyone is hungry and will attack anyone who steps on the area. Ceroba has a scar on her left eye like Clover and has insomnia to protect Kanako and Chujin, who are alive but need to be feed. She has SEVERE problems with Orion (Starlo's brother).

Axis was created after Integrity's neutral route where The Integrity Incident never happened, Axis serves as a doctor and emergency robot, when he was closed in the Steamworks, the Steamworks and UG Apartments summerged on war due to being trapped by their own creators. Axis is mute due to his "radio" being damaged, he is a pacifist and tries to help Clover until Clover and Ceroba wrongly attack him.

I will drop more information later, but these are the most important ones. The others who I didnt included (Decibat, El Bailador, Starlo, Orion, along with others) are secondary or important to a specific character's development. Here are the old designs, some of them stay the same and others changed a little bit or generally.

I KNOW I KNOW I LOVE HORRORDUST TOO.... just that before you get to the meat of the fish you've gotta descale it first YKNOW???)

anyways its always a bit hard for me to trio-fy things when it's originally a horrordust idea AND THEN i force killer in. because i will not lie i've got horror and dust's characters memorized pretty well (i do think i should give dust a few more emotional episodes though. just as a sprinkle of flavor amongst the usual quiet depressive image i have of him) but UGH killer you FOOLISH buffoon i have a love hate relationship with your complicatedness,,,,,, but only the most determined get control or something i guess so i gotta push through and keep shoving him into situations with horror and dust. maybe then i'll get a beautifully perfect trio characterization. anyways!!! less about me glazing myself about this dumb headcanon i would like to raise my hand and add to my own idea. allow me to walk onto to stage (walks onto stage with my clown costume). so basically i think that this wouldn't be a bit of a slow thing. you dont GET lingering glances and brief touches horrordust here on this account YOU GET THAT IN THE BARNES AND NOBLES ROMANCE SLOW BURN SECTION!!!! nah horror probably just had the idea and decided to go ahead with it. because he knows dust isn't up to anything better. maybe it was a bit of a gamble to think that dust would be okay with him talking to phantom paps but HEY HE DIDN'T GET GASTER BLASTERED!! and besides horror knows dust wont attack him for any old reason (ngl this COULD be bad sanses. or it could be just the trio on their own. for my own personal happiness i'll just leave it as solo trio and then idk whoever's got the bad sanses imagination gets to imagine this in bad sanses)

yeah yeah dust's rambling on about some absolute BULLSHIT to phantom paps and even though he's just EVER so slightly annoyed at horror not keeping the door closed he just treats the guy normally (next time he'll keep the door locked through). because really horror's proposition (he says it more like an order but horror's just like that ngl) can't HURT??? he's never spoken on behalf of phantom paps and he can't help but just think "real" when horror wants to talk to paps. bro is glad he gets an on demand brother to talk to and if horror is anything like him then dust knows that he also just needs his bro sometimes

that first talk is CATHARTIC bro i cant even describe it. that first talk was probably some 4th secret hidden layer of intimacy only discovered by these two and i don't have the audacity to reveal the words they spoke to eachother/paps (but really eachother). that shit got SO deep it even got dust to actually defend horror against some of killer's gibing the next day (that got a bit of a reaction out of killer because why is dust suddenly being just a bit nicer to horror? (FREAK how could you tell that dust's opinion of horror improved based off of ONE INTERACTION????) that wasn't on his internal profile of dust,,,,) (holy shit is that ANOTHER headcanon of mine i'm sneaking into this??? the triglycerverse,,,,)

but i dont think things would go further than that. horror and dust's relationship COULD improve but not that much. these guys would just barely begin to reach friend level 15 (bare minimum "distant friend" title) after like 14 positive interactions. anyways i ALSO like the idea of dust and probably horror NO WAIT DEFINITELY horror knowing that killer was listening like i said in previous tags (because dust probably just has that crazy intuition and horror's probably just gonna guess that killer's weird enough to listen in on them. he might tell himself it's paranoia but dont justify him by telling him that his paranoia was RIGHT)

and just like. neither of them stop talking. if killer wants to listen then fuck listen all he wants. dust doesn't particularly care anymore (he practically wears all of his regrets on his sleeve atp. as if he doesn't already know that killer's figured out all that he hates and regrets about himself) and horror knows that killer'll just fuck off eventually because the guy cant even handle the most BASIC conversation about the past. so yeah he can listen in just that both of them know that he's got far too many problems to listen the whole time

but on a SILLIER side note i think that if horror's gonna talk to phantom paps that they should start bringing him up against killer. for shits and giggles and totally not because it bothers killer enough to shut him up. sometimes i like to think that horror comes to dust's room late at night just to talk to phantom papyrus. no he doesn't wanna talk to dust. horror probably doesn't even CARE if dust's awake at the asscrack of dawn or rambling off to the hallucination too loudly this late at night because he just wants to talk to phantom papyrus

horror's not delusional enough to believe that phantom paps is actually real and his own papyrus like dust does but sometimes he really wants to,,,, so just for these short moments between them he wants to pretend that the hallucination is his papyrus. that he gets to talk to his own brother before everything went to shit and before he ruined his brother's life. yeah sure phantom paps kinda says some crazy stuff that horror's papyrus never would back then but so what?? dust's papyrus is the closest thing he's got and at least he doesn't have to deal with the guilt at even LOOKING at his brother's face (the sunken eyesockets,,,, the uneven teeth,,,,, yeah no) because there's nothing there. horror doesn't have to do anything but keep his back turned to dust and just talk to papyrus through him

they both keep their backs turned to eachother when they do this because neither of them can stand looking at eachother. dust especially because hearing horror sound so much like how he was before. horror sounds so lighthearted and relaxed and just,,,,, normal that it almost reminds dust of himself. maybe if he closed his eyes and tuned out his own voice he could just imagine the moment being a conversation between himself and paps back then before he had to kill him over and over. dust doesn't want to have to look back and see horror's mutilated skull and his permanently replaced eye. he doesn't want the fake scenario he's choosing to indulge in right now to be broken

and then i think they talk like that for a long time; because horror has a lot to say to paps about himself and what he regrets and dust has a lot of reminiscing to do on the good old days before he lost himself :3

red has 20 hp, sans still has a sad 1 hp, while blue has the most at 400 hp

when fighting, both red and blue like to fight close range. while sans fights long range, dodges if attacker gets to close

all sanses can speak wingdings, they like to use it to talk shit

the machine allows them to travel between aus, they're trying to find a better way to travel (shortcuts or portals)

red was also from a handplate esc au but escaped and killed gaster before the. plate in the hand thing.

i came in expecting “robot fox and bird found family in a forest” and i GOT “robot fox and bird found family in a forest” but SO MUCH BETTER????

yknow stories that are like “how am i supposed to live after that?” like Undertale Yellow or Brokeback mountain? yeah this is the opposite of that. and that’s exactly what i needed after being hyperfixating on uty for months.

some random thoughts i have are:

HRNRTHHFHFJFJGHTH. AUGH. WHAT DO I EVEN SAY…

i was crying since before the middle of the movie. and i didn’t sob at the ending. it was so good, the strong hard parts made me really cry but it kept getting hopeful again. i just.

I felt so seen by so much of that movie. I’m autistic, raised in a quite dysfunctional family and always depending on escaping with fantasy like undertale and fnaf, so i never had any real friends until 6th grade. Watching Brightbill (a runt) being raised by Roz and Fink (two already outcast members of the island with no friends) all because of their own flaws and accidents made me feel so… real. seen. I’ve never felt so represented. a dysfunctional, loving family, built on mistakes and trying to fit in and fulfill their purpose. trying to find the people they belong with.

Similarly but not exactly the same, the found family aspect. Again, as functional as they can be for a runt goose, a manipulative fox and a hunk of metal. but they were all stuck in a place where they can only try their best and take care of each other. that’s literally me and my friends bro. it’s like finding someone so different that you completely click with after a while. you get to watch everyone change and grow with each other.

one of my favorites things was the titular Wild Robot, Roz. GODDDD WHERE DO I START….

Roz showed up somewhere new, not knowing how anything worked, and just followed how she was programmed. She was feared, hated for just doing what she knew. Eventually she sat and waited and watched and learned what she could. When she woke back up, everyone still hated her. She did her best, she could now communicate, but it led her into a bad spot in which she did what she always knew and ended up, with a little help from others in a similar spot, finding those who loved her. In the end, learning how to connect and helping them do what they needed to led her to connecting with others, and being accepted for being kind by those who were not.

now replace Roz with Indigo and read that again, maybe don’t read it as literally but like. THAT WAS JUST MY ENTIRE MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE???? HELLO????

one last thing because GOD THIS MOVIE IS SO FANTASTIC THERES SO MANY THINGS I CANT EVEN THINK OF EVERYTHING I LOVE ABOUT THIS MOVIEEEEE

the art and music. dear god. this movie is so fucking good at being a movie. the art, environment, composition, EVERYTHING IN THIS MOVIE IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. it’s stunning, every single shot i just wanted to dig my teeth into, it’s such a beautiful movie.

the framing and pacing and music and colors and emotion throughout the entire movie is just phenomenal. everything is just so fucking good.

fun facts about lewis cause I’m going through it and these asks are keeping me sane

Lewis isn’t really a skeleton, rather he’s a fire demon. His skeletal appearance is his armored skin (almost like insectoid chitin ) but he has a real skeleton and organs and all underneath example below on his anatomy (cause ngnh yeah I’m insane)

The reason fire demons look like skeletons is because of an ancient folklore about their creator the goddess of the sun burning their skin off for trying to escape her unjust wrath, So now they’re all “deformed and hideous”. But they all think they’re pretty sexy hehe :)

fire demon insides are kinda like crystal flesh geodes. You hurt them and their flesh will be almost crystallized but soft somehow at the same time.

Lewis CANT swim, most fire demons can’t. It’ll snuff their core out and kill them slowly and painfully. So he prefers to stay away from water or rain (rain is fine but it’s not comfortable)

lewis is usually always very warm, not unbearably that you can’t touch him. But if you get him mad or he don’t like you, he will heat himself up to hurt ya (that’s only if your on his bad side, this is really hard to achieve, if you did, congrats your getting a third degree burn)

Fire demons have most of their magic in their tails and cores, lewis used to have a tail :)

Lewis is overall a player, but he’s actually quite respectful and prefers it to be mutual on both ends, he’s might be horny, but he’s not a scumbag. But he will steal your wallet and walk out of you after he’s done :)). Unfortunately he is a con artist and a bit of a manwhore, sowwy this is his job. BUT he’ll treat you like the biggest princess ever.

if he gets to know someone he likes, Lewis moves MUCH slower relationships wise and move wise. He like to savor the moments, make them count and be sure it’s genuine. He wants to treat you right and not rush anything

lewis vents, claws and spines are A bit of a hazard. Sometimes you’ll notice they’re nubby cause he files his spikes and claw to not injure others. As of his vents, he’ll definitely warn you to be careful

lewey is pretty sturdy and strong, but magic wise he can’t quite do much. He tries to avoid using magic as it drains his energy immensely due to his “situation”. However he will flare up in flames given the chance if it’s for emergencies

Certain ways of how he steams up or smokes reveal how he feels. If he’s flaring fire, he’s a bit upset. If he’s flaring sparks you got him by surprise. Pink steam means he’s a bit nervous or flustered. GOD forbid you catch his whole head on fire, you’ll have to run :)

he’s actually decently fast despite his size, those legs of his can have him running for a damn long time, it’s scarier when he’s on all four, but you’ll never really see him do that ever, that’s like.. if he’s absolutely feral

last But not least, he’s self conscious about his tail! He tends to hide it. Always does, and sometimes it wags under his clothes when he’s a bit happy, his face will be stern or smiling tough but you see that stinky lil tail nub moving the fabric of his clothes behind him if you so happen to make his day heheheh

WAIT edit: one last thing. Cause this is important. I made Lewis inspired after cool undertale artists I saw on twitter! Especially mothipixie and others that I followed before bringing back my tumble, cause I saw how fun their art was and undertale. So I made him as a mock sans thing based off the cool underfell sanses I saw and then he became his own thing cause I truly don’t know allot about undertale xD now I’m learning more and having fun with the game and the aus tho so hehe if you wanna play with him or slap or undertale aus at him go ahead I love to see anything :D but yeah I just check out all those cool artists they’re really neat and honestly I prolly never gone back to tumble without getting inspired by them and undertale and fnaf stuff x)

finished undertale yellow. the writing was really really not undertale and more like a pale imitation of it with weird less progressive ideas that undertale pushed. there’s like this misogynistic / orientalist japanese styled character or whatever named ceroba who kind of just doesn’t really fit into the wild western vibe that pervades the story and its kind of like whoever made this character really REALLY wanted to insert whatever weeb stuff in there. no i don’t think kimonos are cultural appropriation leave me alone.

flowey himself in this story is a fine companion because he is very involved in undertale’s story as a companion but he’s that kind of companion that acts as a dickweed edgelord who doesnt really see the value in the friendships whatsoever so he waits to steal all da power, so i think it was a strange choice for them to make flowey do the whole betrayal thing because the story relies on you understanding flowey is doing faux sympathies but even then in the og game flowey’s facade drops extremely quickly and just antagonizes you after u get hit / avoid the bullets. but then undertale yellow’s pacifist route suddenly has flowey never throw a temper tantrum—he just lets it go—and that’s it and i think its dumb because undertale yellow shouldnt even have a pacifist or genocide route. the genocide only happens if the player chooses to in the og game and undertale yellow just puts both routes in there. i personally think the neutral route is the only route, because you still end up in a rock and a hard place; asgore will get you and flowey’s temper tantrum asshole behavior is impossible to escape or whatever.

the big issue here with undertale yellow is that it just narratively does not fit in with the OG undertale. yeah i understand it’s thematic; the underground changes depending on the individual soul color. it is what it is, but none of these characters ever show up . theres no wild west world. theres like, nothing, and i felt sad leaving the game because well, this is a fanmade prequel attempting to depict events that dont need depicting. undertale doesn’t need you to speculate on how the others met their fates—they just didn’t have enough determination to make it through. they had flaws in their souls that made it impossible to reach victory, and the circumstances were not in their favor. but yours are, and that means frisk (you) gets out in a happy ending (or not). its why undertale yellows routes cant *work*; there is no incentive for doing either because they’re both wish fulfillment. the real routes the one where flowey gets hopped up on fent and starts tweaking cus u aren’t playing by his rules. the og game’s neutral route is a sense that it is not the end, because you just have to make a second attempt at befriending everyone, including the 13 yo flower nerd edgelord, who simply runs away from his problems. its why the game opens up more possibilities at friendship and its why undertale yellow emulating this doesn’t really make sense, since it has a beginning and end and sets up frisk landing.

i also am not a fan of most of the oc characters (martlet or whoever need to get smited) but thats just whiny me

So, like in undertale, you cant escape the underground without the souls. In this AU as stated he was a doctor working for the royal guard (think of it like a military medic, yknow?) and he was only able to save himself. This took place actually a couple years or so BEFORE frisk falls. (It really feels like *eternity* for him, though.

Maybe frisk will show up in this au, ya never know. :)

Rose Quartz

It’s all “more morally grey women in media!” but when the mom from the space rocks singing and crying show turns out to not be the saint she was made out to be in the early seasons, suddenly she’s The Real Villain Of the Show and a Bitch and all the good she did in liberating the gems and saving the earth is completely erased. Yes! She was a diamond! She did some evil shit without understanding the consequences! She was once entitled and bratty and unempathetic. She got a lot of people hurt! But she also gave all our gems their freedom! She gave up her status and family and slowly tried to fix all the damage the diamonds had caused. She didn’t have Steven as a means to escape her past, she had Steven because she saw in humans everything she always wanted to be- something free and forever changing. You are allowed to not forgive her but claiming her to be inherently evil even after all she went through is flat out wrong. Imo you all just cant handle a bbw.

So many people absolutely DESPISE Rose Quartz. The show showed her character arc in reverse order, and when the show started, she was seen as this perfect being who was wise and kind and a rebel hero and utterly flawless. But then we find out that she wasn't perfect, and she was one of the tyrannical Diamonds the show has as the main antagonists. She used to be a spoiled brat who threw tantrums, hurt one of her servants, and left her friend/plaything Spinel to stand in a garden for thousands of years. She discovered the beauty of earth and rebelled to save it from being destroyed, even faking the death of her Pink Diamond identity so the rebellion could win. She works her entire life to change and become a better person from who she was. Ultimately she gives up her gem and life so Steven could live before the show begins, and the show has Steven gradually learning about her. She is often hated and seen as a villain and worse than the other Diamonds, who are genocidal tyrants until the very end of the show.

Steven Universe shows Pink Diamond’s arc in reverse. At the beginning of the show, all the characters see Rose as this great hero, this perfect unimpeachable goddess, and over the course of the show we learn that this is a lie — Rose was just as flawed as anyone else, in many was immature, lied to all of her closest friends, was at times very cruel to her loved ones, and spent most of her life unlearning the privilege and entitlement and cruelty which her youth taught her. The last things we learn about Pink Diamond (her abandonment of spinel, her treatment of volleyball) are perhaps the worst things she ever does. But these are also some of the *earliest* things she ever does — this is where she STARTS, and we see in the show that Pink spends a lot of time trying not to be the person who did those things, even if she never undoes them, so that by the end of her life she’s far from perfect but is also in many many important ways not that person. Her decision to become Rose Quartz is in part an attempt to remake herself, to *not be* the childish, callously cruel pink diamond she is meant to be. And rose quartz *is* kind, and works to be good, but she cannot truly stop being that person. In the end, I think we are meant to understand that Rose Quartz decided to become Steven because she wanted to grow and improve in a way she felt that she couldn’t — she KNOWS that she isn’t a good person and can never truly be a good person, so she destroys herself so that Steven can be the good person she can’t be. And her decision to bring steven into the world caused a lot of pain, and maybe it was selfish, but it’s also a fascinating expression of Rose’s self-awareness about her own flaws!!!! I love Rose/Pink for how flawed she is and how much she tries not to be flawed. Anyway a large portion of the SU fandom thinks Pink Diamond is an irredeemable monster. So that’s cool.

Chara Dreemur

There's a lot of bias against Chara for appearing at the end of the Genocide Route, but there's so much more to them than "I want to murder everyone". They're a kid!! They made mistakes and they felt bad for them, and now they're stuck following the player and watching their every move... The fandom misrepresents them very badly imo

Somehow people forgive Asriel for everything he's done as a soulless being after his death, but when it comes to Chara, it's like they're the devil incarnate.

Chara is a character commonly seen as guilty for the genocide run or harmless disregarding them only appearing at the end and posioning Asgore

Poor kid called themselves a demon ONE TIME and then got misrepresented so badly as immoral killer with no sympathy

People constantly blame them for the worst ending of the game, even though the entire point of the game is that the player has a the opportunity to choose senseless violence and that it is the player's fault for killing the characters. They are a troubled child, and while they do some bad things, like taking the player's violent example at the end, most of what the fandom pins on them is in the hands of the player.

Some less-lore-oriented Gaster Thoughts(TM)

y'know, i don't imagine this is anything New per se, especially in terms of like. theorycrafting for lore, but. for a perspective of looking at undertale through a literary lens, maybe it is you ever think about the parallels between gaster and toby himself? I mean, both use the official undertale twitter, and... gaster is like, this super powerful plot device used to explain certain things. it feels like in a way, gaster is tobys real self insert. ive even heard rumors that his easter eggs were added as a way to make sans powerful and make that make sense

but i've been thinking about gasters fate, tobys history with UT/DR, and how it mirrors what dark fountains and dark worlds seem to be attempting to deconstruct, what they're literary metaphors for

For some reason, I remember always thinking that... "falling into his own creation" just. Literally meant he fell into either the core or... shoved himself in the DT extractor. But I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what that can mean. To fall into something can be to get absorbed in it in every facet of your life, to be thinking about it lots, or... just letting it take you over, in a way. To fall into ones own creation is to obsess over it. Was he obsessed in his research into... ah, we're getting into actual lore. Whoops Anyways, it would be odd for toby to have written this if you think about it as a parallel to the absolute success of undertale, since hes very humble and didn't expect a huge success... but when you think of it in the context of how much he, not a thriving community, was absolutely absorbed in his own creations? How he stopped the development of deltarune to make undertale? How hes still working on making that one dream he had years ago come true?

I think it pieces together as... quite poetic. I wouldn't say it was enough to make me believe it was intentional, though. When I piece that together with the brilliant theory that Andrew Cunningham posed in his video about determination in deltarune, though? Well, specifically that... deltarune is aiming to deconstruct our relationship to escapism, and that dark worlds are metaphors for creating fiction... Maybe gaster really was the first one to create a dark world, and. well. what happens when you go into a dark world? you fall into it. Perhaps gaster made himself more than just a simple dark world, but the entire world of deltarune, and thats why hes the... narrative god or whatever, at the beginning. Whether he made one or not, I cant say for certain. But I think I can say that toby may have made one, and thats one thing I'm curious to hear insight into after deltarune is all said and done. Was it always meant to be about a creators relationship to creations? about getting absorbed in fantasy? And how might this narrative have changed, as his own work became as loved and famous as it is? Only time will tell, won't it? Mr. brilliant White Dog ...

the moonlights in this comic are the following: Playtrough: i changed her design, this is the lamb that went trough the decisions and options i made on my first time and current times playing the game, she is the first version of her, hence why she is both the oldest (200 years old going by how old my cult is in game) and wisest. She doesnt goes by moonlight, she goes by lamb, sheep, or just moon or black (her cult is called the black moon)

she has a constant tired face she is not aware off, the fings on her horns are from the two spouces that died during the playtrough, currently one was revived not too long ago because narinder asked me to do so and i completly forgot their name, i can post the comic i did of that if anyone wants, the flower crown comes from the first follower i had that i lost after i acended them because of old age

Red crown moonlight: as much as she may have the red crown as well as playtrough, they are still different, she is actually from an universe where she swaps places with lover and takes his role as the bearer of the red crown, unlike playtrough, red gained the crown as a child, and such. she is pretty much the same moonlight you all usually see that happens to be the main one, just that she doesnt sleeps (until getting lover back-) and has a bigger recentment and anger that she takes out in crusades, other than that, she is baby :] all of this started because i have the habit of thinking of them interacting in my head often, the reason playtrough calls the lil one red is because due to all of them having the same name, they decided to give each other nicknames surounding their theams and roles in their universes

this definently is influenced from back when i used to consume undertale content and i used to consume a lot of the sans from different aus interacting, i genuinly cant escape any of that pipipi 🧍‍♂️🏃‍♂️
