hi no context for this yet bcus the stimboard hasn't been posted but here are the colin provolone wood carving thoughts (WARNING: not edited, not proofread, written in one sitting. this is bad. it is not good.)

I learned woodcarving from my dad. It's one of the few good memories I have of him. Us sitting down on some bench in a tavern as he explained how to hold the knife. His hands shook the whole time, a side effect of his drinking, and he very quickly got frustrated with it. He stood up and threw the knife down at my feet.

"I'm no good at this. You've got nimble hands, figure it out." He spat at me before walking over to order another ale.

Maybe not such a great memory. I don't have many at all. I did pick up that knife. I did figure it out eventually.

I carved a lot as a sailor. There wasn't much else to do. The dagger fit much better in my hands at that point. I carved just to carve, whittling sticks down into sawdust at my feet. Feeling my blade get duller and duller until it felt like I was carving through stone. Letting my hands cramp up, waiting for the next task.

I carved a lot less as a bodyguard. My hands stayed on my blades, my mind occupied with strategy. The dagger became less of a tool and more of a weapon. Carving flesh instead of wood. I didn't have much downtime, and when I did I was... preoccupied. There was a lot on my mind.

I started carving again after I left Delissandro. With a different knife this time, one the Bishop gave me as a gift. A congratulations after my knighting. It was much smaller, made specifically for wood. It had a short, slightly curved blade. Scratched into the green handle was the symbol of the Bulb.

I thought it was kind of ugly. I still think it's kind of ugly, but it's served me well. I’ve carved hundreds of little trinkets with it. Flowers, animals, dolls, utensils. I like to hand them out to the people I visit. Lady Amangeux keeps hers locked in a box under her bed. Delissandro never takes them, he only gives me more wood to carve.
