Okay. Imagine the YDKJ hosts (you can count Bob in, if you want) but their personalities are the complete opposites of what you HC them to be
1:06 am, 4/28/2024
Ooh now this would make for an interesting AU idea…. Might actually doodle this at some point
This is long as hell… wee
Guy would have the most obvious and craziest change, being that he’d be WAY more unfriendly, mean, and possibly angry with just a TOUCH of maybe.. lazy (considering it’s usually hard to get Guy to actually be angry over something and not just his usual reaction to being upset, where in the games which seems to be just CRYING OVER IT), so uh, try to avoid him. You don’t want a man that could snap you in half to be angry at you!!
Now one may assume I’m gonna make Schmitty overly nice, but he IS a nice man given the chance, he’s just grumpy at times and has anger issues, so I’d say if his personality was swapped, he’d probably become hyperactive. Since I normally see him as somewhat calm and a tiny bit laid back (idk sometimes it’s hard to figure out people’s personalities for me diebjebr), if Schmitty’s personality was swapped, he would act like he’s just had 10 cups of coffee and he could fight god, probably pisses off Guy a lot. Also he’d probably talk like that one line in YDKJ TV where Schmitty tries to mimic that really fast commercial voice you hear all the time in TV ads. Also since this is the host of QUIPLASH I guess I should mention his humor, normally Schmitty would laugh at dumb jokes, but if his personality was swapped, you gotta tell him the most clever, well-thought-out joke in all of mankind or else he’ll suddenly stop and stare at you like you did something really weird.
Nate would probably be all “I don’t care anymore”, wouldn’t bother to get himself ready for anything and probably shows disinterest in basically everything (when normally Nate would at least TRY to look energized or something), try to talk to him about ANYTHING and he’d probably be IGNORING whatever you’re saying. Idk tho, again it’s hard for me to EXACTLY catch onto character personalities lol.
Buzz is a difficult one… I know for one thing, he’d probably be way more reserved about his interests and may even attempt to hide them. Maybe he’d be quicker to snap if someone wasn’t treating him right rather than bottle it up and THEN snap? Now this is more based on my experience playing volume 2, but personality-swapped Buzz would probably be a little more mean, too (since he doesn’t even try to insult me in that game tbh). Not sure how his self esteem would be, though… he could either think he’s better than all of the hosts, or he could think he’s the worst host in history. Maybe he swaps between the two constantly, who knows.
Cookie I tend to imagine as a man who’s ego is through the roof, and he’s willing to verbally kick people down in order to keep that confidence. (Idk if that counts as a personality trait tho) So if Cookie’s personality was swapped, this man would be absolutely pathetic and think he’s awful at everything. Also since he hosts Fibbage, I suppose another thing is that he’d be an awful liar. Also he’s probably way less unhinged than normal Cookie is. Despite I’ve seen a lot of Cookie clips, his personality, like the others, can be pretty complex so it’s hard for me to exactly hit the mark lol.
I suppose I’ll throw in Bob bc why not, even if I don’t know much about him or his personality yet… probably doesn’t try too much, either, doesn’t like bright colors, and likely is into REALLY OLD STUFF rather than whatever aesthetic he’s got going on + “whatever the kids seem to like these days so I look more relatable and entertaining”
#they’re all my interesting little goobers and I might make this an au#ydkj#you don’t know jack#jackbox games#guy towers#josh schmitty schmitstinstein#schmitty#nate shapiro#buzz lippman#cookie masterson#bob headrush

Here are my top ten games of all time. And remember, it's my list. Your list would likely be different. XD
Link to part 1. Link to part 2. Link to part 3. Link to part 4. Link to part 5. Link to part 6. Link to part 7. Link to part 8. Link to part 9.
10. Undertale
Undertale is another one of those games where if you talk about it, you have to walk around spoilers, and I don't want to do that to you guys. It's just a great RPG.
9. Portal 2
The Portal series is great, and Portal 2 shows that greatness in a hell of an adventure. GLaDOS and Wheatley are great characters and the puzzles are intuitive. Not to mention, getting to know the history of Aperture Science is amazing as well.
8. RollerCoaster Tycoon
Ah, RCT. It took what made Theme Park great, added a killer roller coaster builder, simplified staff and stall management, and just improved everything possible. The screenshot is of RCT 1 in OpenRCT2, which is the best way to play both the original and the sequel now, in my opinion.
7. System Shock
This game was groundbreaking at the time, and its style of immersion and horror still stick out today. This was the first game to get close to the now-standard WASD style of movement by default. (It's not quite WASD, but it's still in the area.) SHODAN is a worthy opponent, and one of the scariest AIs ever put into a video game.
6. McPixel 3
A goofy little puzzler that's big on laughs and moon logic. McPixel 3 has you save the world from many threats, and it also has a killer soundtrack. It also is mind-challenging as you try to figure out how you have to solve each puzzle, because each puzzle is different. I love McPixel 3.
5. DOOM II: Hell on Earth
DOOM DOOM DOOMy DOOM. I love DOOM. DOOM II is the best of the classics in my opinion because it knows how to balance its enemies. The addition of the new enemy types and the Super Shotgun makes the game feel like DOOM. Fuck The Chasm and Pain Elementals, though.
4. Fallout: New Vegas
What can I say about Fallout: New Vegas? It's my favorite of the Bethesda-styled Fallouts and it's one of my top favorite games. Everything just feels... right. I will never do a Caesar's Legion playthrough though, screw them.
3. Saints Row 2
Easily the best of the Saints Row games, still tongue-in-cheek but dramatic when it wants to be. I just love everything about it, and especially love the Gentlemen of the Row mod. Let's hope Volition actually gets to release the patched version that Mike “IdolNinja” Watson was working on.
2. PAYDAY 2
I love me some cooperative shooters, and PAYDAY 2 is my favorite one. It just clicks, and the characters are great. The shooting is fantastic, stealth is fantastic, it's just a great time. Also, keep those helmets flying!
1. You Don't Know Jack Volume 4: The Ride
Are you surprised? YDKJ The Ride is my favorite game of all time because its writing is sharp, its hosts are fantastic, the music is excellent, the new question types are enjoyable, its naming gags are funny, and frankly, I probably wouldn't be the person I am without You Don't Know Jack The Ride, full stop. Play it today.
So, that's my Top 100 Games of All Time. Did you see some you've never played before? They're all great games and I had a little bit of a tough time deciding the order. We'll be going back to answering questions soon, so have fun asking me some stuff, whether it's related to this or not. I'll also have a "final thoughts"/mega post tomorrow at some point. :D

How to write a You Don’t Know Jack-style trivia question
by Haley Walker, the head writer of Salty Trivia with Candy Barre, a YDKJ fangame
The anatomy of a YDKJ question
As the tagline says, YDKJ is where “high culture and pop culture collide”. A good YDKJ question is first and foremost a soft trivia question that most people can reasonably confidently expect to guess. It also has a little pop culture coating around it, like the hard candy shell on a Tootsie Pop.
The “pop culture” bit could be references to movies, video games, music, memes, or TV shows (or their modern equivalent, online streaming service originals). It could even just be a stupid pun.
Asstronomy How many Earths could you stuff into the volume of Uranus before it just couldn’t take any more? A. 6 B. 63 C. 630 D. 6300 —YDKJ2011 E1 Q1
Oh, and of course, official YDKJ questions have a lot of fart jokes in them.
High-to-Pop Balance
The questions should be fully understandable with cursory knowledge of the reference in question. For example, someone who has only kind of heard the name “Paul Rudd” in passing could get all the questions right in YDKJ2015’s Paul Rudd episode. In fact, none of the questions ask anything about Paul Rudd.
Let There Be Rudd If Paul Rudd’s real first name were like Paul the Apostle’s original first name, what would he be called? A. Raul Rudd B. Saul Rudd C. Gaul Rudd D. Simon Rudd —YDKJ2015 “Paul Rudd Episode” Q4
Be careful, though, to make the pop culture reference clear enough, without sacrificing the understandability of the trivia question underneath it.
The ideal YDKJ question is a Tootsie Pop, with a soft trivia center inside a hard pop culture shell. When there’s too much lollipop, it’s too much effort to get to the tootsie roll center. Too little lollipop, it’s just a tootsie roll on a stick.
Examples
Let’s review some fanmade YDKJ questions.
This is a well-balanced question.
Moderating’s Hard Say you were spamming in a server. Mostly what were you caught doing? A. posting multiple chicken pics at once B. starting beef with others C. slapping someone with a large fish D. not shutting up about pork
The high culture layer is what kind of meat Hormel’s luncheon meat Spam is made of, and the pop culture layer is the act of spamming that the Monty Python skit gave name to.
This is a question with too much pop culture.
Mythic Baked Liquids Guess what Pastry's Skill Quote this rhymes with In test, Delight of Denise. 1: You are able to control all water and have a Crush on the Moon. 2: You want your Enemies to WITNESS something. 3: Perhaps something about the SEAS?
This question is all pop culture, and requires more than a cursory knowledge of what "Pastry's Skill Quote" is. (The question writer then clarified that it's supposed to be some kind of thing from Cookie Run, but that doesn't explain anything and doesn't cause us to be able to guess that the right answer is "Witness the might of the seas", and that’s kind of the point of why this question is so unbalanced.)
I would raise an example of a question with too much high culture, but ample of them are already in Jeopardy!, so I won’t harp on about it.
Pitfalls
Some sources are not very reliable, including Wikipedia, but there are a lot of other places that are less reputable.
Names of phobias come up in fanmade YDKJ questions quite often, but the vast majority of them are invented by some random person with a less than stellar understanding of Greek and Latin. If you can find it in Wikipedia’s list of phobia names that aren’t in the “Jocular and fictional phobias” section, it’s safe to use. Otherwise, if you can’t find a medical paper that uses that name, it’s wise to discard it.
Terms of venery are another iffy subject. Aside from the very famous “flock of birds” (but “murder of crows”), “pack of dogs/wolves”, “herd of cows/horses”, “pride of big cats”, and “school of fish”, you should generally shy away from them.
Writing patterns
There are some common pitfalls that a YDKJ question can fall into, most of which arise from the wording not being clear enough. Here are some phrases to mitigate the issues.
“Which of these [things] is the MOST/LEAST likely”
This pattern is used when there are multiple correct answers, or the options all apply to a different degree. It is also used to signal that it’s a matter of opinion or simple wordplay.
“Based on [criterion]” or “Because [criterion]”
This pattern is used to clarify why. I will show you a bad YDKJ question for a change.
Pixar Movies Make Me Gassy If I wanted to reenact the movie Up, what would I definitely not want to attach to my house? A. hydrogen balloons B. helium balloons C. carbon dioxide balloons D. ammonia balloons —YDKJ2011 E25 Q6
The intended answer was C. carbon dioxide balloons, because it was the only one of the three had a lower density than air at room temperature. However, you wouldn’t want to attach the rest of them to your house for various reasons: Hydrogen and ammonia are both hazardous to handle because they are flammable, while we are running out of helium, so they would be very expensive to use. This is not even to mention that ammonia has a very strong odor. (Did I mention YDKJ has a lot of fart jokes?)
Adding the phrase “Based on” to the question, I can rewrite the question to clarify why Cookie would definitely not want to attach to his house:
Hydrogen: Because it is the most flammable, what would I...
Helium: Based on the price, what would I...
Carbon Dioxide: Based on its density, what would I...
Ammonia: Based on the level of health hazard, what would I...
“If/Say/Suppose [premise]. [question]?”
This pattern is used to introduce a premise that too complex to be woven into the question itself. If you need multiple sentences to introduce the premise of the question, even after the little rant Cookie sometimes does before the questions, you may want to reword the question, work on it some more, or scrap it.

Are the YDKJ games with Cookie in them on steam? I checked them out and it seems like a different host
It really depends on which game you pick up
Of the classic 90's games on steam, C.ookie hosts Volume 3 and Movies, and he also hosts the first part of Vol. 4 The R.ide.
IIRC he's the sign in host on Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 but not the ACTUAL host, he just asks your name and how many people are playing.
Post 90's, he's the mainstay host, He's in YDKJ 2011 (only available on console), YD.KJ 2015 (Party Pac.k 1) and Full Stream (Par.ty Pack 5)
So basically if you pick any of the classics that aren't Vol. 3, Vol. 4 or Movies, you'll get a different host.
