ship meme: OC x Koth, OC x Theron
Thanks for the ship asks Hex! I'm gonna put it under a read more because I wrote a lot, also I have a lot of feels with these two ships >_<
Ship: Wyuna (sith warrior OC x Koth)
1. What made you ship it?
I think i started shipping my sith warrior and Koth initially out of spite. It's not a great way to start a ship admittedly, but i was super tired and pissed at the Koth hate from both reddit and some peeps on tumblr. So i made one of the most popular OCs (sith warrior) to ship with Koth instead of Quinn.
However, now? They are kind of comforting when I saw them together. Wyuna was in an unhappy marriage with Quinn, and Koth was still processing trauma while trying to look out for his crew. And they both clicked for one another. They offered something that the other was missing. Wyuna learnt how to be a better person and reject a lot of the Sith dogma and Koth learnt to be more forgiving as a result of Wyuna's character growth.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
Their mistimed or lack of cultural context jokes. The way they give each other comfort, space and healthy outlets to work through their trauma and conflicts.
Also I love how they give each other space and both being frank should they need to end things or take a break in the relationship. By kotfe/kotet Wyuna had to deal with ending a broken marriage. Koth needed time to unlearn a lot of toxic ideas from being raised under the Eternal Empire all his life. So their relationship is a very slow burn.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I don't think it is unpopular opinion, but i wish there was more meat to their romance. Like it was heavily there in kotfe and then dropped a lot in kotet. Koth should have been the third alliance council member that handles logistics and handles supplying aid to Zakuul ravaged worlds (but we all know why that doesn't happen, fucking racist fandom).
Ship: Kira (smuggler OC) x Theron
1. What made you ship it?
It might be a very shallow response, but it was because Theron was asian coded and they were my asian couple in sci-fi comfort ship. Like it was so nice to see a romancable asian male character that doesn’t deploy racist undertones to when asian male characters have any notion of romance. Sshhhh i know fandom and even some at bioware code him as whitey mcwhitey as the reason...
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
How awful they are with being frank with their feelings. Both of them are used to be self-dependent, so their relationship started with coy flirts. But when it comes to deep relationship stuff, they both get immediately flustered. Which is one of my weakness when both of them are bi doofuses who have no true emotional experiences.
There’s also an element of playfulness in their relationship, so even if it’s not pure horny with their interactions, they have a sense of platonic banter as well which i like a lot with smuggler and theron.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I wish they had an opinion in game to have a middle ground for the relationship besides dump or full forgiveness. I know there’s a limitation on choices thru the game, but i think i would have liked to explore Theron and Kira having that opportunity to like... actually do the repairing of trust in that relationship. I know they hinted it in the FPs (theron leaving the crystals in umbara and the clues to nathema) but i would have liked more side conversations where it gets to the hard stuff. I kind of want that because both Kira and Theron had grown up without much parental figures to look upon a good relationship.
So I would have liked not the complete perfect happy ending. Like have Kira wanting to give Theron a second chance but also it’s not straight into makeout and total forgiveness.

Friday 25th January 2019
Last night was not an easy one. At midnight we saw temperatures of 32 degrees. This apartment does not have air conditioning! The fans were spinning without any relief in sight. These are extraordinary times. The heat has been on for a while but we are in an area which has road signs giving advice for driving in ice and snow! Martine spent much of the night sleeping on the floor next to the front door.
So, sleepily, we emerged at 9am thinking perhaps a slower day should be allowed for especially since temperatures were predicted as 41degrees. Since the area is famous for its mineral water springs and spas, we thought we would have a stroll in the nature reserve that is full of the stuff. Hepburn Springs has been appreciated for its springs and mineral waters since the 1860s. In 1864 its citizens met at the Savoia Hotel (which incidentally is opposite us) and petitioned the government to protect the mineral springs from mining - the water was rated above gold and the Hepburn Mineral Spring Reserve was created in 1865. Several springs exist in the main reserve – Soda, Sulphur, Pavilion, Locarno and Wyuna. Golden Spring, Hendersons and Lithia Spring are located in the vicinity. There were various drinking fountains around the reserve where it was possible to sample these various waters. The ones we tried were fairly disgusting. I think I will stick to bottled. Returning to the apartment, we slopped a bit in the heat, then popped out to our biggest nearest town, Daylesford to have a look at the heritage railway station. No trains today unfortunately. The line just tootles up and down between 3 stops now, but once it joined to the mainline connecting with Melbourne. It would appear that during the 1970s, Australia had its own Dr Beeching when many small lines were closed. We had a look at a local shop, closed due to the heat, as was the Chinese antique shop. So we had a cold beer instead: Little Creatures. We saw the brewery last year in Fremantle. Nice beer.
Tonight we have been watching the Australian of the year voting. Two medical doctors/ cavers were given the award for their part in the rescue of the Thai boy's football team. No mention was made of the British rescue guys.
Tomorrow we shall be making our way back to Melbourne where we hope to have air-conditioning. Oh, and tomorrow is also Australia Day of course celebrating the landing of the first fleet on 26th January 1788 in Sydney Cove, NSW.
As a footnote, we saw on the news tonight that the remains of Captain Matthew Flinders were unearthed whilst clearing the site for the new Euston Station. This has caused some excitement here since he is quite a hero down under. He was mentioned earlier in this tome as the man who was attributed as the first to refer to this land as Australia and had also charted the coastline of Australia. Clearly found his way home then.

I would like to acknowledge the Gayemagal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Owners and knowledge holders of the land on which I stand. I pay my respects to Elders past and present and acknowledge that this is and always will be Aboriginal land. I carry the lessons I have learnt from the Elders and teachers with me and now hold a deeper appreciation for my backyard. During the Covid19 isolation period, I have been spending a lot more of my time exploring the place I grew up in. My literal backyard is situated in Freshwater on Gadigal land. I live on Wyuna, an Indigenous word for clear water, where there used to be a creek that ran behind my house towards Freshwater Beach. I feel connected to the water here. There is something about being close to the ocean that instills a sense of calmness within me. Listening to the sounds of waves washing in and out, almost as though the water is breathing, is a familiar sound that I have grown up with. It’s become a place I call my backyard where I come to breathe and take in the patterns on the sand and the sparkles on the water. Recently I have felt the interrelatedness of my mind and body to this place when I stop and listen to the sound of the water. There is something special about being under water and holding my breathe. The pace of life feels slower and my awareness is heightened. I think about and respect those who have come before me, their struggles and their knowledge of the place that surrounds me. I think about the insightful learnings from the Elders and teachers that explored the connections through energy, the feeling of being around living things and living with the seasons. As it is now transitioning into warmer weather, I will continue to develop my understanding of the place I grew up in by actively exploring my surroundings and carrying these stories with me as I go.

That's so unfortunate in an interior design sense that I'd probably end up being the murderer if I had to spend any decent amount of time there.
If you're going for rural and ridiculously overpriced for a murder mystery location then try this:
30 Wyuna Rise, Queenstown NZ. Sure it's a bit "architectural modern cabin". But at least it doesn't actively hurt my eyes like the above one does.
But if you can drop NZD$19,500,000 on a holiday home then every damn one is going to try to knock you off for the inheritance (just on sheer principle).
Husbeast and I have developed a new hobby for quarentine evenings when we’ve watched everything palatable on netflix: looking at the most expensive houses in various cities and determining the ways some rich SOB would be killed for inheritence money and/or revenge for thier assorted war crimes in an agatha-christie style murder mystery.

Week One: A jam-packed week of learning
Holy moly, I am just finishing up my first week and feeling like my hair is straight back. I have told everyone that I feel like I have been here forever (in a good way). But that I have seen, met, and learned SO much for only being a week into my journey....so hold tight, this post is nearly as packed as my week.
An overview of my past few days includes:
Tuesday
Tuesday I returned to the National Y Aus Office where I spent the day meeting with more individuals on initiatives and projects housed in the national office.
I spent the morning with Georgie and Terri (two fearless young leaders) where we discussed youth engagement work, particularly the Young CEO program. We do some amazing and exciting work nationally and locally around youth engagement (clearly, I am writing this from Melbourne), but I think this program is a great example of some easy implementations about how to make our opportunities even more intentional, and provide even higher impact for the youth in our employment.
I look forward to working with our local Youth Advisory and CEO to see how we can bring some more meaningful mentorship over a longer period to our Youth AGM Delegate in particular.
In the afternoon, I met Di and Dianne from marketing and communications to talk about their national work. Furthermore, Y Aus has just finished a rebrand. I was able to learn about the brand and the process of rolling this out nationally - in another federated model. They also shared a lot of their beautiful recent work, as well as some very tangible tips and tricks for this work (ALL of which I will be taking back to our own marcom team- my personal favourite, how to fix an annual report print screw up!)
Wednesday
On Wednesday Jacki took me out of the office and into the 'country.' We visited the YMCA of Geelong -a regional association. This particular small association serves some communities of comparable size to our own - of only a few thousand people.
First, we visited Camp Wyuna where the Camp Manager, Andrew, toured us around their seaside site and shared about the industry of camping in Australia. Camping in Aus is very different. Unlike in North America, the camping season works directly with schools and the fall is their busiest time. The schools work with the camps to provide unique team-building experiences to start the school year. I was fascinated to learn that camp actually produces a revenue AND ALL their camp leaders are certified teachers!
We then spent the afternoon with Shona, the CEO from the Geelong YMCA. We visited a few different sites - Newtown Stadium, a recreation facility where I learned about the Y's work with not only recreation, but elite athletes; a community centre in Bannockburn (similar to our local work in Vanderhoof); learned a lot about the recreation contract work and competition in Aus; and finally a local school site that is home to the new private-public-partnership (PPP model).
The highlight was truly the PPP model - this unique model has a YMCA contracted to operate the community facilities located within a school to support a community. It is quite complicated, but as simply as possible, a school-a private contractor-and a non-profit partner together to create and build a school and community centre - then they have the opportunity to pay back the capital loan and make money off of the site until after 25 years the building will be handed back over to the government. This is allowing small communities to receive substantial supports and the non-profits to create a good profit margin. (Also, it was the most beautiful school I have ever seen and home to a wonderful Y Out of School Care Centre).
I truly enjoyed my one-on-one time with Shonda who not only gave me my favourite piece os Y Swag (the pink notebook), but also the best piece of advice. She said, "in this work I've learned that you need business brains and a charitable heart." - I could not think of a more eloquent way to sum up how I strive to live my life and leave a positive impact.
Thursday
Thursday was another long-full day where Jacki and I visited the YMCA of Whittlesea - a suburban city of Melbourne. Another association of comparable size to the work of our own association.
Then we went to the Services Offices where I was greeted by the office dog, Nico! (I am sad to say that I did not get a photo, but truly loved the puppy snuggles while I met with other colleagues - I am missing my fur babies fiercely). Here, I met with Stephanie and Jono who shared about their own experiences in the Y young leader programs.
Then, Jono shared about two truly astounding initiatives: WhyNot and Global Study.
WhyNot is a remarkable platform for young people (by young people) to amplify their voice and share their stories. This particular project has received national and international attention, being featured by the New York Times and the Australian Prime Minister. More importantly, it is giving a voice and a platform to the issues and feelings of young people - from sustainability to education, inclusion, wellbeing, and empowerment. I strongly encourage you to take a read through a couple works to get a real sense of their experiences.
Global Study is providing overseas experiences for university credit to Aus students. What I found most interesting is learning about an upcoming session in partnership with Mission University about intergenerational leadership. Looking at how generations communicate to providing a best practice of behaviours to enable this within your organization. (SIGN ME UP!!!!!)
I met with Jenny who is the child care manager, where I learned about their similar challenges to recruitment in the area of early learning. However, Jenny shared that many of her educators had been on the team for 18+ years. When I asked about this retention and engagement, these are the tips she shared, to listen and implement their change, she works from one different centre each day so she can speak directly with the staff, they host lots of social opportunities, and for her centre managers, she gives them a 'Light your fire day' once per month - a day where they can do whatever they need to fill their bucket and show up as their best selves.
Tour final stop on the Whittlesea tours, was to see Stella at Y Space where she shared about a vast array of programs and services that their Y provides for individuals and families with disabilities.
Upon returning to National Office, my day concluded with a meeting with Phil - the new head of the National Safeguarding Unit: The Y Aus national team to provide support to Ys in safeguarding children and young people - I have a slew of items from this meeting alone. But one of my favourite takeaways was this child-friendly poster as a part of their campaign to create a culture where children feel safe to share.
Friday
Friday morning I had the pleasure to join many of the Y Aus staff at an International Women's Day event, hosted by the YMCA of Victoria. At this event, we heard multiple keynotes and a panel with YMCA Aus CEO, Melinda Crole, all-around diversity and equity.
Some personal highlights from the variety of speakers and stories that resonated with me:
- "As women, we need to be comfortable taking up space" - for me this is so relatable, that oftentimes it feels easier to be a wallflower and it is still challenging to be confident in the space that we own
-Imposter Syndrome - the CEO of Y Victoria (the largest Y in Aus) is a woman who shared her own feeling of imposter syndrome. I always find it so comforting to know that others struggle with this feeling as well, particularly women in high-profile leadership - that feeling of feeling truly inadequate to be where you are - that you are somehow an imposter in your own skin - that you somehow just ended up there by luck - I would love to know what we can do as individuals, and a collective society, to combat this
- Authentically me - one of the speakers shared about owning that, embracing that you are authentically your own person and no one else can do exactly what you can do. This is something I have committed to in my personal journey - embracing my imperfections - it is hard, daily, work
- We need more ordinary women leaders - often the women in leadership are so extraordinary, there are ordinary leaders everywhere, we need more women comfortable in the space of being ordinary everyday leaders - to be respected and know that is enough
- Self-care helps you choose your battles - step away, be kind, you don't have to be perfect
- The falsity that feeling that in order to be good enough, men need to like you - you're enough just as you are
As I close out my first week, my brain and my heart are full. I am so grateful for all the unique individuals who have taken the time out of their life and grind to spend it with me. Each individual has been so hospitable and kind. The Aussie culture is so much more laid back and they take the care and time to know the individual, not just the work (something I am looking forward to taking home with me) - and everything still gets done by the way.
(Had this happened 5 years ago, I would never come back - lol. But don't worry Sunny, missing you, mom, and the fur babies like crazy).
Excited for another week of adventure, learning, and friendships.

This is utterly hideous.
Look, if you want to spend $19mil on a McMansion style house (ok so this one I'm linking is an alpine subcategory of McMansion) I know a place in New Zealand with mountain views, high ceilings and absolutely no neighbours for a few hectares.
