Being the largest US retailer, Walmark will boost the popularity of Pudgy Penguins by offering a variety of 16 Pudgy Toys, priced from $2.99 to $11.97. The weekly trading volume of the prominent NFT project, Pudgy Penguins, experienced a significant surge after its collaboration with the retail giant Walmart. Between September 24 and October 1, Pudgy Penguins recorded a trading volume of $3.32 million, marking a remarkable 241% increase compared to the previous week. This weekly volume represents the highest figure for Pudgy Penguins since July of this year. On September 26th, Walmart unveiled plans to stock Pudgy Penguin-branded toys in 2,000 of its stores. The purchase of one of these 26 toys grants customers access to a digital gaming platform called Pudgy World, where they can engage in games and craft a “Forever Pudgy” avatar. These Pudgy toys have a maximum price tag of $12. While these toys have been available online since May, their appearance in Walmart stores is expected to significantly increase their visibility. Each Pudgy Toy will be accompanied by a unique birth certificate, allowing owners to claim exclusive attributes for their digital ‘Forever Pudgy’ character within Pudgy World. Users can unlock these attributes in an online virtual environment based on the zkSync Era blockchain by scanning a QR code. Brittany Smith, vice president of merchandising – toys, Walmart US stated that “Pudgy Penguins is bridging the gap between our physical and digital worlds of play for kids in a really engaging way.” Walmart Shall Boost the Popularity of NFT Project Pudgy Penguins Walmart is one of the largest retailers in the US. Besides, it is sure to amplify the collection’s appeal well beyond the crypto community. Pudgy World, an immersive multiplayer digital realm, offers users the chance to explore, partake in games, and entirely personalize their Forever Pudgy character. Since its launch in 2021, Pudgy Penguins has amassed an impressive $400 million in sales. The brand’s triumph can be credited to its adept utilization of social media and experiential marketing strategies. This set it apart from other NFT collections that grappled to gain traction. While mainstream media often downplay NFTs due to their volatile price fluctuations and perceived lack of demand in a competitive market, the integration of physical products into established platforms creates an avenue for NFT collections to connect with a broader audience and cultivate stronger brand identities. Walmart will offer a variety of 16 Pudgy Toys, priced from $2.99 to $11.97. PMI Kids’ World, a well-known brand renowned for crafting toys based on popular cartoons and shows such as WWE, is behind producing the Pudgy toys. Thank you! I had a dream that I was shopping inside a better Walmart than the ones in my area and they had an Elite Lita action figure with the late 90s Womens Championship but white strap and the figure was $2.87 and I was like yeahhhh discounted and mineeeee but realised after looking over it, its cause someone stole the Womens Championship out of it. I fucking hate people that do shit like that.

Elvis Sighting In The Toy Aisle
I know I promised two reviews this week, and I do occasionally keep my word, so here’s the second review! Once upon a time, the gimmicks wrestlers had were absolutely nuts. One of the most famous wrestlers was an undead cult leader whose crazed brother burnt their house down, one was a US drill sergeant/beloved “GI Joe” character turned enforcer for a brutal Middle Eastern warlord, and then there’s today’s guy, whose deal was that he was “Elvis but an asshole.” When I first saw him at Walmart, I was absolutely delighted and knew I had to have him. The question is, though, do you need him too? So to answer that, let’s look at “WWE Superstars The Honky Tonky Man!”
Tumblr media
With retro-style toys being huge these days, the WWE has decided to cash in on the trend by bringing back old toys with modern engineering. In this case, that means the return of toys from the 80’s and 90’s. I know, this is starting to sound familiar. That’s because it’s the premise behind our previous review, “Masters of the WWE Universe Macho Man Randy Savage.” The difference is that the “WWE Superstars” toyline is both still on shelves and is trying to recreate the original toys as closely as possible instead of combining pro wrestlers and He-Man.
The “Superstars” line is a Walmart exclusive toyline aimed at collectors, with each figure coming with a delightful amount of accessories, much like you’d expect from a collector-aimed line. The figures do use the “Masters of the Universe Origins” bodies, which makes sense, considering they’re emulating a toyline that looked very similar to the original “Masters of the Universe” bodies and are being made by the same company as “Origins.” What that means for us that they have absolutely stellar articulation and honestly do a great job of recreating the looks of those old toys.
Honky Tonk Man comes with multiple accessories, some of which are not immediately obvious from how he’s packaged: his jumpsuit and scarf, which are both removable, two extra sets of hands, and his guitar, which breaks apart into multiple pieces. From how he’s packaged, it’s easy to miss a lot of this. In fact, the way I found out about the guitar being able to break apart was I removed a plastic band from it and it fell into five pieces in my hands. So don’t open this guy where you can lose parts, is what I’m saying here.
Tumblr media
Not pictured: The Ultimate Warrior coming to beat his ass.
Changing out Honky Tonk Man’s hands is very easy, just like it is with the “MOTU Origins” line. Just note that issues with individual figures and constant hand swapping can make the connection loose over time. He can also hold his guitar by the neck very nicely, which is great because it breaks apart really easily, so you don’t want him dropping it. Seriously, it falls apart at the snap of a finger and has to be reassembled in a certain order to make it hold together even as loosely as it does. It’s a real pain and I kinda regret removing the plastic band that was keeping the whole thing intact.
Tumblr media
Later when I moved him into another room, I realized I had misplaced part of the guitar. Took about 5 minutes to find on the floor.
The accessory I have a problem with, however, is the jump suit. It is removable, and Honky Tonk Man does have his wrestling tights painted on under it. The issue is that it’s a real pain to remove. It’s a cloth outfit that’s surprisingly tight around the shoulders, so when I tried to take it off for photos, I ran into some challenges. In the end, I had to give up and settle for some open shirt pics because I was getting terrified of ripping the outfit. So if you grab yourself a Honky Tonk Man, be careful about that or learn to sew.
Tumblr media
What started as the closest I could get to removing his outfit without fear quickly turned into the fanservice photo.
Honky Tonk Man and the rest of the “WWE Superstars” line are all Walmart exclusive figures and go for about $20 right now. So the question comes down to if he’s worth that. Honestly, I’d say no. Yes, he’s a good figure and fun to play with, like any figure using a “MOTU Origins” mold, but he’s not worth that big price tag, especially when you can find him right next to the “Origins” figures that use the same bodies and go for $10-$15, which feels like adding insult to the injury of spending that much on him. It feels like you’re paying more because of the accessories, which include a jumpsuit I was scared I was going to damage if I removed it and a guitar that will fall apart long before he can hit anyone with it. If you can find him on discount, though, then consider grabbing him. He is aimed at collectors, which makes a ton of sense since his mold means he won’t match most wrestling toys kids these days have and he’s a wrestler most kids these days won’t know. If anything, they’re going to think he’s the actual Elvis. So unless you’re a collector or just really like his gimmick, like I do, then I’d pass on him or wait for a sale. This is JL signing off and wishing you Happy Toy Hunting!

July 2020 - Top 5 SDCC Toy Moments
Tumblr media
San Diego Comic Con’s virtual adventure has come to an end – and even though the venue was certainly something different this year – the events still brought to the toy world MANY an announcement. While a lot of collectors were caught up in the whirlwind that was scalpers swooping in and/or broken and beaten down websites, there were a TON of wow moments from brands, big and small. In no particular order, here are 5 announcements that blew us away during this year’s Comic Con at home.
Hasbro
Tumblr media
It's no surprise with the plethora of IPs that the folks at Hasbro manage that they had quite the showiing. All of their exclusives were revealed, but won't be available until September through Hasbro Pulse, and whether it was the Star Wars, GI Joe, Marvel Legends, Transformers, or Power Rangers announcements, they covered a lot of ground.
Mattel
Tumblr media
I hope you like wrestling - and if you do - I hope you’ve been saving up! WWE basics, elites, and ultimates were all shown off in various stages of development. Notable highlights were all things Bray Wyatt (including the Ringside Collectibles exclusive set), the incredibly detailed ultimate Rock, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, and Fiend, as well as a ton of new faces like Rhea Ripley coming to the line for the first time.
McFarlane Toys
Tumblr media
Since McFarlane Toys snatched up that DC Multiverse license, they’ve been getting a lot of feedback from collectors – many saying that the scale and deco is a little “off,” and that their Batman-centric lens has been frustrating; the latter of the two sets of critics will not be pleased with what Todd and Co. had to show off, but it’s hard to argue their new offerings aren’t a MARKED improvement over their early waves. Rounding out the Dark Knights Metal crew, introducing the Flash and characters like Red Hood, many thought the brand, “stole the show.” Also announced were new additions to the My Hero Academia line, as well as DOOM, and a new RAW10 line of monsters.
NECA
Tumblr media
Turtles, turtles, turtles, and tension. While NECA revealed more of their Alien, Predator, and final shots of their upcoming Back to the Future figures, it was obvious that the focus was on the TMNT. With their movie realism two-pack of Casey Jones and Raphael unable to stay stocked at Walmart (at the time of writing this) and their con-exclusive Mutagen Tour 4-pack depicting the TMNT in their 90′s concert glory selling out in mere seconds, NECA’s announcements were both parts exciting, and maddeningly frustrating. That being said, they responded quickly to the backlash by announcing the upcoming Tokka and Rahzar two-pack will be subject to pre-order window - something brands like Super 7 have had a lot of success with.
The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast
Tumblr media
Not to be left out of the fun, the pro-wrestlers and action figure aficionados Matt Cardona and Brian Myers of the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast had their own slew of announcements during SDCC - firstly they announced that they, as podcast personalities, will be getting Super 7 Ultimate figures – insanely awesome ones at that – and those will scale with Super 7′s other Ultimates like what they’re making for New Japan Pro Wrestling. Secondly, they announced 4 sets of Ringside Exclusive REMCO-style vintage figures in their likeness, along with a ref, and Smart Mark Sterling himself.

BY THE POWER OF SLIM JIM!
Greetings and Salutations! This week, we’re actually doing two reviews. Why? Because I found a figure that was such an out-there idea that I really wanted to talk about it, even though the figure and toyline it’s from aren’t made anymore. Today, we’re going to look at “Masters of the WWE Universe Macho Man Randy Savage.” Does this really out there version of the Master of Macho Madness deserve a spot in your toy collection? Let’s dive in and see!
Tumblr media
So, as we’ve talked about before, there’s a toyline called “Masters of the Universe Origins” that recreates the original He-Man figures, but with modern engineering. Where that ideas and a lot of those molds started, though, is a pretty weird place. Wrestling toys, especially those based off the WWE, have been huge for years, so Mattel got the idea to combine WWE with “Masters of the Universe,” since one line of wrestling toys from the 80’s used similar molds to He-Man and friends. But, rather than just recreate those old designs, Mattel literally combined the characters and concepts. John Cena was combined with He-Man and Faker, Triple H was combined with Skeletor, and so on. And characters who weren’t combined with specific He-Man characters were at least given weapons and accessories from the He-Man universe, as was the case with Macho Man Randy Savage. The molds and accessories used for this line would be improved on and reused for “Masters of the Universe Origins” a year later.
Randy Savage honestly looks great. He uses the black and white color scheme from his nWo days, here called the hWo (Horde World Order). His torso armor is a sturdy black piece with the symbol of He-Man villain and She-Ra arch foe Hordak on the chest. In fact, this may have even been the same chest piece later used for the basic Origins Hordak figure a year later. His face is well-sculpted, and he looks delightfully menacing. Honestly, the He-Man body type works great for a guy called “Macho Man.”
Tumblr media
Black armor and a navy blue backdrop do not make for good pics.
Savage comes with six accessories: two pieces of leg armor, which are not attached in the packaging, his Macho Mace, which fits in either hand, his Bandana Helmet, which fits nicely on his head and can be easily removed, an armband with the symbol of the Horde, which comes attached in the packaging, and his body armor, which can be removed with difficulty. I actually haven’t removed the body armor yet because I fear damaging it, due to its soft plastic.
The figure, like all the “Masters of the Universe Origins” figures, is really posable. Considering he’s both a pro wrestler and someone meant to throw down with He-Man-type people, this is very much something you want. He’s got great balance and lots of articulation, and is just a lot of fun to play with. Honestly, I love this toy.
Tumblr media
“I GOT YOU FOR 3 MINUTES! 3 MINUTES OF PLAYTIME!”
Now, Macho Man’s not perfect, don’t get me wrong. There are a few issues we need to look at. First off, getting his leg armor on can be tricky at times. It doesn’t peg on and instead is strapped on. Since the whole thing is soft plastic, time and wear can cause it to become loose.  Also, his chest armor is a pain to remove. It can be removed and there is detailing under it, but it’s so hard to get off that I fear damaging the figure.
Tumblr media
He really is the Cream of the Crop.
“Masters of the WWE Universe Macho Man Randy Savage” actually isn’t on shelves anymore, unless you get really lucky and your local Walmart found one in the back. Because of that, you can expect to pay at least $20 for him. I got lucky and got him for about half that because there was a sale. Would I recommend him? I would for his original price. Unless you’re a big wrestling fan, it’s gonna be hard to justify spending $20 or more for a figure that uses almost all the same parts as a figure going for about $15 at retail right now. He is a fun figure and I do like him, so if you see him for a decent price, definitely grab him. This is JL signing off and wishing you Happy Toy Hunting!
