Abd I've been reading it for every free moment since then.

See this is something I find pretty upsetting because clearly this means that the point of the original post went way over your head.

This is from a post where I was talking about the general state of fandom - where people don't engage with anything unless they can steal it to make money off it in some way. And I remarked about a particular post of mine getting 800 notes overnight without getting a single comment in that timeframe.

And truly, what I meant was that the post got 800 likes, which is far different from 800 reblogs - a post with 800 reblogs is a roaring hit and and a post with 800 likes... not so much.

Especially considering that 800 likes on a Tumblr post is not at all comparable to 800 kudos on AO3.

To me, the problem with 800 people liking my post but not getting any reblogs or comments - well, it's like if you gave a Ted Talk. 800 people saw what your topic was, agreed that they wanted to spend their time listening to give a speech, so 800 people came into the room, sat down, listened to you, and then there was just complete dead silence at the end instead of applause. 800 people all just awkwardly staring at you.

And for the record, I am not asking 800 people to reblog and comment on my fic. I am asking for 2 or 5 or maybe 10 people out of 800 to do so. 2 people applauding in a room of 800 still sounds pathetic, but that is all I am asking for.

And the comparison of kudos to Tumblr likes is just so inaccurate. With my fics, I put a readmore on all of them, so 800 likes on a fic means that maybe 70% of people actually read the fic and maybe the other 30% were just browsing through and saw the summary and gave it a like to read it for later.

The kudos button is always at a bottom of a fic after you have opened it, so it guarantees that the person giving you kudos read your entire fic and enjoyed it.

Also - you can also give kudos once. So AO3 hits on a fic could indicate someone revisiting a fic multiple times to reread it after they have already given kudos. (Which is why comments are so powerful. You can leave multiple comments telling the author how much you love their work and how rereadable it is to you.)

Same thing with reblogs. You can reblog someone's work multiple times to show them appreciation and it's free and takes almost no effort.

Also, for the record, I am not a popular writer. My fics don't get hundreds of notes consistently. My least popular fics have sub 60 notes and at least a dozen of those are me reblogging them over and over again in an attempt to promote them.

When I am talking about a fic getting 800 notes overnight, it's because that fic is for a popular character from a popular fandom - which is even more frustrating, because people are less likely to comment when their fandom is over saturated with content and they feel spoiled by it. And I really want to change that culture. Even if a character has thousands of fics on their tag, each fic should be treasured, celebrated, and appreciated.

Basically, if I say "wow 800 people saw this fic and nobody bothered to comment. That makes me feel really shitty" you don't have to say "well, 800 people saw it. You're lucky."

I want fics with 800 notes or 20 notes to get more comments and more reblogs. That is always the point of my posts.

2.5 Xianzhou continuance thoughts [part 3]

**SPOILER warning** for the entirety of the Feixiao boss battle and the quick Lingsha & Dan Heng scene that follows after it. Of course if you haven’t reached this part of the story yet, I kindly ask you turn away before reading any further. Also.. there’s a bunch of scenes featuring our Lacking General here, so you won’t see me lacking in praises as I go crazy about her.

Soon after recovering from Yanqing’s icy blade, Hoolay starts wreaking havoc by tearing his bloody heart out and driving fear into all the foxians onboard the Skysplitter, which is just.. grand. I’m honestly kinda relieved that Jiaoqiu wasn’t around for this because if I had to witness Feixiao taking him down, or vice versa depending on whomever went insane first, I probably would’ve cried.

I do think it’s a bit comical that the 2.5 trailer used this shot of Feixiao with her giant wolf spirit summoned behind her to make it seem like she was our next enemy when she’s so clearly about to help us and handle the situation herself.

So devouring the heart is indeed the cause of her losing control, which I assumed would happen the first time Hoolay mentioned the blood heart and.. I’m kinda glad this is the true reason? She chose to eat it in order to save the other foxians from breaking out into a mad frenzy at the cost of her going insane instead. She wasn’t a secret accomplice of Hoolay nor did he take control over her like I feared upon watching the teaser trailer. I also thought that Feixiao’s moon rage might’ve overtaken her courtesy of Jiaoqiu not being around to treat her in time or she simply gave into the rage after hearing whatever torture Hoolay put Jiaoqiu through. So yeah, I think it’s best she deliberately intended for this to happen and trust the kids to snap her out of it rather than have her emotions getting the best of her while Hoolay stood by on the sidelines watching all smug as Feixiao betrays everyone.

Oohhh, the red in her eyes is still such a simply terrifying detail. You really feel like you’re in danger being started at like that.

I wish they were able to change up her model to reflect the red ring though considering how small of a change it really is. I understand it wouldn’t be too noticeable during battle when she’s all the way across the field, especially if the player has the battle speed turned up, but it would’ve been nice. (I also wish they did something with Jiaoqiu’s eyes too at the end of the story, but that’s something I’ll ramble about next post.)

Sigh.. I know my first thought shouldn’t be “wow, wish that were me right now instead of Yunli,” and yet it’s all I can think about right here so.. sorry not sorry.

I’m torn between “I can fix her” and “she doesn’t need to be fixed.” Her bright, blue eyes were mesmerizing before and now they’re twice as gorgeous, even if she’s five seconds away from ripping off my limbs. Where’s Jade with that “What pretty eyes. Tell me, do they shine in the dark?” line when you need it. I’m a fan of that devilish smile too.

Sudden brief flashback to knock me out of my bewitched trace and land a critical hit on my heart, aaaah! No breaking promises allowed here! Especially if it involves your life! I’d much rather have you both keep your promises to each other please!

This whole ordeal inside her mind very much reminds me of when we looked upon Cocolia’s memories mid-battle, only this time we’re seeing Feixiao’s possible future if she chooses to follow in Hoolay’s footsteps and become the new borisin warhead. It was kinda reassuring learning about how our strong General does fear something, with how often rushes into battle without hesitation more often than not. Makes her feel more human rather than if she was truly fearless.

Kudos to her keeping her composure upon hearing about Jiaoqiu’s “death.” Feixiao either sees through Hoolay’s bluff and knows he’s only swaying her resolve so she cooperates with him as she’d have no other options of recovery without Jiaoqiu, or she trusts in her healer’s ability to stay alive. There could always be other reasons that I probably didn’t come up with too, I dunno, but her eyes did narrow upon hearing his name if memory serves correct. It does make me wonder why Hoolay didn’t straight up end Jiaoqiu’s life.. or perhaps he thought he did but never bothered to check? Which would’ve been so foolish but I digress. Still thankful that our handsome foxian is alive but hearing this taunt did worry me at the time.

Well, duh, of course Feixiao would refuse. If becoming the Xianzhou’s enemy is her worst fear, then I doubt she would yield to Hoolay and his plan, but I guess he didn’t think that point through very well. This also means General Huaiyan’s quote “Merlin’s Claw, you have betrayed the alliance” from the trailer was all a trick for us to believe Feixiao would turn on us too. Hoyo is being real deceiving this patch.

Oohh this flashback.. I knew bits about it already since I read Feixiao’s ascension character stories right when I got her but couldn’t remember off the top of my head which name belonged to Feixiao, but Hoolay eventually confirms that her real name before being saved by Yueyu and joining the Cloud Knights was Saran.

From trying to escape with Neergul, to the countless battles she’s fought it, Feixiao is always set on saving every possible life she can. No wonder she ate that cursed heart to spare the nearby foxians of madness.

The scene where she prays to Lan sorta reminds me of when Qlipoth gazed upon the Trailblazer and we gained the lance, if only because Feixiao’s battle axe comes crashing down from a beam of light moments later.

Speaking of heavenly beings, thank all the Aeons that we don’t technically fight Feixiao but Hoolay, who ends up transforming into her because if we had to harm this woman ourselves I’d be so sad. She’s been through enough fighting throughout her lifetime, I didn’t want to cause her any more pain! I’d lose the battle on purpose.

I’d gladly beat up Hoolay though. Especially after all the torment he caused Jiaoqiu. Feixiao certainly looks ready to give the warhead some hell too.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t too thrilled when we first learned we would be returning to the Xianzhou for the Wardance, but it turned out to be quite an experience. Half of my enjoyment of this continuance mission comes from how great the story was.. while the other half is strictly because of Feixiao. Of course I loved meeting and learning about the other new characters, especially the Yaoqing trio because they’re simply precious and I adore them all so much, but Feixiao just hit different for me in a way where I haven’t been this excited for character in a long time. She would no doubt be my favorite if Serval didn’t already exist.

I don’t know exactly why, but for some reason this frame reminds me of that one Jojo meme:

“Oh? You're approaching me? Instead of running away, you're coming right to me?" "I can't beat the shit out of you without getting closer."

Ah right, at this point the boss battle already happened, yeah? I don’t have much to say about it either, which is odd.. all things considered. It didn’t give me any trouble either, thankfully. I don’t really remember the battle theme they used though, which is a bit of a letdown after leaving Penacony with Aventurine & Sunday’s boss themes in mind. I was expecting another bop of a soundtrack but oh well. I’ll have to go back and listen to it again. Perhaps I was just too focused on Feixiao to notice. That must be it. When that girl takes the jacket off then you know things are about to get serious.

The final slash of the battle axe after she and Hoolay charged straight at each other gives such anime fight scene vibes and I’m totally okay with it. Congrats on defeating your inner demon, sweetie.

Aww the kiddos. Props to them for standing up against Feixiao (and surviving) while helping her return to reality.

GOD that smile of hers is so soft and precious AAAHH. She’s so proud and thankful for their assistance and sorry for putting that kind of pressure on them.

DANGER! The happy feelings are effectively nonexistent and all I feel now is sheer PANIC. You can’t even give me a moment to relax huh, Hoyo?? Pretty sure I audibly gasped upon reading those last couple words.

Yeah it’s great that us and Moze were able to find Jiaoqiu wherever he was left to die, but to cut to this scene with Lingsha & Dan Heng right after was such a dirty move, like I’m already so worried about our foxian and now we gotta try and focus on something completely different? Aaahh.. I feel so bad because I’m sure finding out who orchestrated the prison break and their reasons for doing so were important to the plot but I just couldn’t find it in myself to care at this moment.

I did love seeing Dan Heng summon Cloud Piercer to attack this dude and send him flying into the wall. The scene happened so darn quick I couldn’t even manage to snag a decent screenshot, but what I enjoyed even more was Dan Heng getting smart with him by saying the rules preventing this man from getting hurt while at this location don’t exactly apply to him. I’m gonna chalk this up as another time we’re a bad influence on our companion. “Rules are made to be broken” after all.

Again, I wish I paid more attention to that last scene but I was way too concerned about Jiaoqiu and the aftermath of the boss battle to not speed through it. Anyways, one more post to go.

Not so far no. Never had any hate.

Well, yeah if the story asks for it. But only when it fits the narrative. I don't go into too much details though. I like to keep things 'light' and 'fluffy'. :D

10-Craziest crossover?

Well, I would say:

The Sound of Science: a fusion between 'Stargate Atlantis' and 'The Sound of Music'. XD LOL!

To Boldly Go: a fusion between 911 and Star Trek. Basically it's a Buddie story set in the Star Trek universe, but Star Trek characters don't really show up.

11-Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know off. I don't know if my writing is good enough to steal though. It's important to stay humble. :D

12-Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope.

13-Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, when I was in 'The West Wing' fandom (in the beginning of the 2000's) I wrote about three longer Josh/Donna fics together with a fandom friend. I have lost contact with her since, but I will never forget about her.

14-All time favorite ship?

Oh wow, it's very hard to pick one, because all of my ships hold a special place in my heart.

Josh/Donna from 'The West Wing' was my first online ship. I made fanart, wrote fanfic, met great people. In those days fandom was mostly found on the Yahoo-groups. They eventually went canon in season 7, but I had moved on from the show by then because of how bad the writing got in later seasons. So, I missed the big reveal as they went canon. I'll never not regret it.

Danny/Martin from 'Without a Trace' was a magical ship. My second online ship. I met so many great fellow fans and friends back then. We even met up in Rome and London with a whole bunch of us. Great times on LiveJournal as well.

McShep from 'Stargate Atlantis' was my most prolific ship. I wrote so much fic and made oodles of fanart for those men. Those were the heydays of LiveJournal fandom.

Buddie in '911' is so special to me. I've been in this fandom since season 1, online since season 2. I have met so many great people in this fandom. The best thing of all is that this is the first ship that actually has a great chance of going canon, while I'm still actively watching and enjoying the show. YAY!

15-What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have this dystopian Without a Trace fic half written in my documents. It has been sitting there for years now. It has the possibility of being so great, but I don't have the will to finish it anymore, because the fandom is mostly non-existant these days. Maybe I'll turn it into an original work of fiction one day. Who knows?

16-What are your writing strengths?

Writing dialogue. I actually hear the characters talking in my head. I just write down what they are saying and it always works out.

17-What are your writing weaknesses?

Finding the time to write! But mostly the grammar, especially the tenses. As a non-native speaker it is a struggle to keep on writing in the correct tense and it's very difficult sometimes to know when to switich to another tense if it's appropriate. It's highly frustrating. I reread and edit my stories up to 10 times sometimes to catch all the grammatical errors. And even then there are still a few that I miss.

18-Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

For some reason I can't read/write non-English fics. I hate fics in my own language. Since the shows I love are English speaking shows, I need to read/write English fics.

19-First fandom you wrote in?

The West Wing.

20-Favorite fic you’ve written?

That's a hard question, because they are all my babies. I can definitely see that my writing has improved over the years though. So I tend to like my last works better than my first works, even when I do still appreciate them for what they are.

I guess the fic I'm most proud of writing is 'To Boldly Go'. It took blood, sweat and a lot of tears, but I got through all 16 chapters in the end. It took a couple of years to finish though. :D

My dudes I try. I know I'm not very consistent and I have a tendency to disappear for months at a time, but I read and cherish each one.

I don't really do angsty endings lol I think the closest I've gotten is Lay Me Down - 8k destiel major character death--lowest kudosed fic out of all 42 lmao

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This is an impossible question. I am like the queen of happy endings? You want me to rank them??? Fine, it's You're Freaking Out. Best 10k epilogue in the land. Oh hey also I just noticed it has 997 kudos. May I humbly request 3 more pretty please?

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No. Closest was when someone complained on one of my destiel fics about the grocery store not having plastic bags and needing a quarter in order to obtain a cart. I specifically remember they said, "I hate when writers do this," and went on to complain about us making up obviously fake stuff that pulls them out of the story. Like, first of all you're complaining about storytellers making stuff up ??? okay. And second, it was an Aldi. A real grocery store. That I didn't make up.

I had to take a day to cool off before I responded and then they were like oh yeah, my roommate told me when I complained to them, you responded to this really nicely though! WHICH folks LET ME TELL YOU made me angrier lol Like you found out you were wrong and didn't even come back to edit/delete/apologize for your comment???

Anyway after that I internalized that you don't know what kind of lived experience your commenters have so some comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Which is a double-edged sword bc sometimes I get really nice enthusiastic comments and read it like, okay but what if this person is 12 and read it at 2am in a fit of delirium and this is their first fic ever and it's actually not as good as they think haha

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I doooo. I haven't published any since I wrote for spn but I have a parkner pwp ready to go as soon as I muster up the nerve.

I have no idea how to interpret the question "what kind" lol uhhh the hot kind? pffft

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have but I never published them. Again, these were for spn which is hella fun to play with merging into other canon. I started but never finished spn crossovers with Firefly, The 100, The Hunger Games, Criminal Minds, Agents of Shield, and Teen Wolf. I think that's all of them. I've been thinking about putting all of my abandoned wips on AO3 for archive purposes, but idk still noodling on it. I wish there way a way I could elect to post without notifying my subscribers :/ Or at least send them a message warning them that I'm about to be incredibly annoying

Yes!! A few now! The ultimate kudo in my opinion, and one I never expected <3

The wonderful @bluettspetal has translated An Insignificant Problem, Undercover? I thought you said under covers..., and Completely and utterly devoid of sex appeal into Russian with plans to translate more.

And Faaayeee42 on AO3 translated Paradise (spread out with a butter knife) to Mandarin Chinese.

I'm forever blown away by this.

Nope! Done some brainstorming a few times but nothing that has evolved into actually writing out a shared thing. Not sure I'd be any good at it tbh. I'd probably be a very frustrating writing partner.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Peter Parker/Harley Keener. They're good boys.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

My Infinity War time travel fix it (make it worse) fic 😔 It's got so much potential but it is perpetually at the bottom of the to-do list.

mother fucking action sequences and like, coming up with The Plan (the evil kind and the ones to take down the evil kind)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Eh. It's fanfiction, you know? Do what you want. Experiment. Try your best to do it justice. Accept that some people are going to let their eyes blur and skim over it while others will pick it apart but most will exist somewhere in the middle. Just write what you want to write, how you want to write it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

*sigh* Harry Potter. Looking forward to my own post getting gobbled up by my block list lmao

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Goodness gracious how do I even decide? I think Peaches Ain't Pretty is my favorite. It's the fic that showed me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can step outside of fanfiction and write whatever I want and be just as satisfied, if not more.

Announcement: Anniversary

Just me talking about the future of the fic :)

First off, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Wow a whole year (plus extra) WITH (near) constant updates, that's crazy. More than I can say for my other fic... (it haunts me. I still plan to finish it but ouch). 

First things first!

I wanted to update sooner (since I've had this written for a month now) but I was also working on a one shot to post at the same time. I was making great progress but then finals came round and I got burned out. They're finished now but I'm still burned out. I'll give a brief hint about it though since I'm a little excited and just wanna talk about it. So its a Dadzawa fic that's actually happy and ends with them as a family (unlike how it was in the last chapter lol). It was supposed to cheer people up and also be practice for writing them as a family and stuff. The Danny is very different from the main fic tho. The fic was also supposed to serve as an anniversary present for all you guys too, to thank you for reading and being here. I really wanted to finish in time but it kept getting bigger as I wrote. I do hope to post it this month tho, so keep an eye out for that!

Next thing!

On AO3 it shows that the fic is now apart of a series and has a chapter count. I talked about this in the notes of a previous chapter, but I had been wanting to do that for a while now. I want to have the next part of the series out by next year. I know I have been updating monthly now, but I'm gonna try to do twice a month if I can. I'm really excited and It want it done soon! I might do 2 chapters this month or will just count the one shot if I get lazy.   

I also added the tags "full ghost Danny." Sorry to burst anyone's bubble that held on hope for Danny. Tbh the original plan was that his human half was still hiding inside him, just healing and small, but it was gonna show up in one of the chapters. The longer the fic went on, the more I started to rethink that. The human reveal, while good in the short run, would crumble some of the plot lines I had set up while also not contributing much to the rest of the plot. I am debating maybe doing a short series of "what if" where that is the case tho, just so people can get a taste. If I like it enough I might make it a full thing. Who knows.

That is so huge! Gahhhh! Man, I am always critical of my writing (I've gotten better) but wow to have that kind of support just in my face! Literally speechless. I always had the thought in the back of my mind that once the fic goes on for long enough people will start to see its flaws or get bored. That's true for some, but I keep seeing a lot of the same names again and again and I am grateful to you guys so much. That was also one of the reasons I wanted to do the one shot. I just want to keep giving you guys more content that you'll enjoy.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I used to. I read and love every single comment I get, please don't get me wrong, comments absolutely FUEL me, but responding?? I have so much anxiety, it used to take me HOURS to respond to them all. Eventually it got to be so much on my emotional health that I decided it would be better to channel that into writing more for people to enjoy, so...that's what I do now. Again, comments fuel me, and I love you all, and I read every single comment and even have a lil' scrapbook of comments that I go back to whenever I'm feeling down about my writing, so I hope this doesn't give off the wrong impression...

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Easily Fracture. If you've read it, there's no explanation needed here. If you haven't...let's just say someone gets turned into a rug, among many other horrible things...

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Uh...most of my fics have a happy ending of some sort. Some you just have to wade through more angst and whump to get to the happy ending than others. I think Missing and Presumed Dead had an ending I thought was perfect for it, as did Darth Vader Goes to Therapy. Both were happy endings AND endings that I thought were perfect for the story that was told.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I write for Star Wars. Yeah, I've gotten hate XD. Thankfully, it's rare. Usually people get upset with my interpretations because "iTs NoT cAnOn!" I really just don't care, so I just laugh and move on. Like if you wanted canon, why are you reading fanfic?? Probably the craziest though was when someone went on one of the biggest Tumblr blogs in the SW fandom and used my Darth Vader Goes to Therapy fic to support their argument that the Jedi were evil or whatever (idk, I wasn't part of the argument) and beyond the fact that it's wild to go into a fandom canon-based argument with super out of context quotes from a fanfiction to support your argument, but to do it with a fic that I 100% wrote as a COMEDY is just. Wow. I was suddenly flooded with so much hate from a bunch of people who had never read my fic, thought it was a seriously written piece of literature, and assumed I agreed with everything the person said and I didn't even know until I went to the post and had to defend myself...every once in a while someone will not see that defense and will message me more hate. Like it's a crack fic. Granted, I DID do research on real therapy practices because I didn't want to make a joke out of therapy, but everything else was 100% a joke. I'm really glad people love it (so do I!) and resonate with it, but it's not canon. I don't think the person intended for me to get so much hate, so I definitely don't blame them, but it was a lot.

9. Do you write smut?

Um. Ahem. I may or may not have a private stash from like. Deleted scenes in fics that had romance in them back when I wrote those. That I will. Definitely. Never publish. Don't worry about it. >>

10. Do you write crossovers?

Yes! Though I've only done a few. I think the only one on AO3 was the crossover with The Last of Us, done before the TV adaption.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Sort of. There was that scare a few years ago when everyone thought a random website had stolen everyone's fics, but it turned out it wasn't that exactly. AO3 isn't available everywhere, so there are sites that are just set up to mirror whatever is on AO3 so that people can read fics on that site, and it happened to be one of those sites. Oh boy, though, did they get a lot of hate mail before it got clarified. Then there was that time I had someone write a fanfic that they said they wrote with a similar concept to my ff.net story Second Chances, but then one of their friends was like "this is a rip off" so they asked me to read it before they posted it to make sure they hadn't ripped it off. Except...it was almost 90% word for word....so uh. I didn't give my blessing and I don't think it ever got posted lol.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! I've had fics translated into Russian, Chinese, Korean and French. My most common requests for translation are Russian and Chinese. I've never actively tried to get something translated, it's just whoever asks me for permission.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! (I'm keeping Aza's answer for this part since it's true) There's the memorable Great April Flood, which was basically a dozen of Star Wars writers gathering together to do a massive round robin with tumblr asks prompt fills (those three sentence fics, if anyone remembers) in order to flood our side of tumblr on April Fools in 2020.

I also did an Inuyasha fanfic with my cousin when I was a teenager, and I didn't technically co-write it, but I did heavily work with a specific character for my Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden series with my best friend in high school as well.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I mean, I'm pretty open to whatever. I think I've written Luke with like....5 or 6 different people depending on the story?? But if I had to choose, I guess I'm pretty consistently Percybeth, so I guess them???

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The Assassins Blade. Like it was a great story....but omg. I got so much harassment about the most random things, sometimes on every. single. chapter. it just wore me down and I just don't write romance-centric fics anymore, which is sad because I DO like writing romance.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Finding the comedy in even the darkest moment. Taking a horrific situation and really just letting the characters feel the emotions of the moment, letting them bask in the consequences of either their actions or the actions of others.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Well, anyone who has ever edited my stuff will probably say "too many redundant sentences" and you know what? They're right. Fluff-centric scenes are difficult, as well. I also will disappear for months on end when I'm just. In a weird funk. Which I still kind of am in at the moment, but I'm actively trying to break through it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I don't really have an opinion on this one.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

First one I wrote for: Final Fantasy X, but my mom wouldn't let me publish because it was the days of the internet when all parents thought their child was going to be kidnapped if they did anything other than look at the internet. It was bad though, so I'm not sad I didn't publish.

First one I published: Inuyasha. I published behind my mom's back, and got in trouble when she found out, but then she looked at everyone's comments and figured out that I was not, in fact, overly in danger of being kidnapped, so she let it go.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Darth Vader Goes to Therapy. I will never be that funny ever again. I achieved my peak comedy with that fic. But a very close second is Missing and Presumed Dead, and sometimes, depending on the day, that one is my favorite and DVGTT is a close second.

💖Which of your fics is your pride and joy? Oh wow! This is such a good question, I love it! Erm... also hard haha, let me think.

I'm tempted to say Time Will Tell because that started as a thought experiment. Can I take a trope I don't really like and make it work for me? The answer was yes so it was a really cool exercise. However, I feel like I might be being overly swayed by the kind comments I've had on it. I have legit teared up reading them. They are frame-worthy. I have the best readers honestly.

Also it does occur to me that time plays tricks. It's easier to remember the stuff I wrote most recently, and not how I felt when I wrote things in the past. At different times, you'd get a different answer. I have more nostalgia for my older fics these days. I'm in a very different place in my life.

Honestly I think I have to go for one of the crossovers. I questioned my life choices while writing both of them because they were such an investment of time and effort. I also knew they were both niche and I could well be writing for an audience of one. However, I still wrote them and that says a lot I think.

So ultimately I'm going to say and the Sins of Atlantis. The Sanctuary/Librarians crossover. I unironically really enjoy it and I have read it more than once. Is that egotistical? Probably. But it's just so much fun.

🤷‍♀️What's a fic you didn't expect to be popular, but really took off? and the Brighter Side of Life. It's a little Librarians oneshot where Eve takes Flynn home to meet her parents. The comments and kudos just poured in (comparatively). I remember being stunned at the time. It was one of half a dozen oneshots I wrote for the Librarians Prompt Month the first year I really took part. That one just went whoosh.

🎬One of your fics gets turned into a TV series. Which one is it and what network is it on? Ooooh. Hmm... interesting. Well this goes back to what I said earlier about time. I don't feel much of a connection anymore beyond "awwww nostalgia" for my older fics. There are some cool details and dynamics, and I feel like taking notes in case I want to incorporate them somehow into a novel in the future. However, that's about the extent of my feelings.

I haven't written a true AU really since those days though. I love AU's, they are a chance to be inventive. When I read back my old fic I'm like "oooh" about the 'clever' choices I made in how to bring in various characters (sorry egotistical again). But that's the fun of AU's really, how to make it all fit together in this new way.

Anyway it's kinda hard to say about my more recent fic, being turned into a TV show because it already is a TV show - it's just missing moments, canon divergence etc.

Also I got to be honest I know nothing about various networks and what they are known for, or what networks are good and what suck. Especially because I mostly watch US TV and I live in England so I never see anything on it's original network (unless it's a multi-region streaming thing like Disney+ I guess).

I suppose... I'm picking at writing an original serial which is the closest books get to a TV show I guess. It's structured very much into episodes and seasons. It's an artifact chasing type unit ala Warehouse 13/the Librarians but based in England, with worldwide adventures and predominantly queer. The Librarians was TNT and Warehouse 13 SyFy (thanks google). I think the new Librarians is on Prime like the new Leverage? The queer MC's do make it trickier though. I think all networks suck for that. I don't know honestly.

⏳If you could go back in time and tell your younger writer self something, what would it be? Another great question!

This is difficult because I have learned so much craft over the years, and it would be amazing to go back and be like "here's what you need to know" so I could write better stories, much earlier. However, that's part of learning I guess - it's a journey. I suppose the emotion here is that I mourn the time I have lost, the stories I didn't tell, and that has less to do with skill and more to do with mental health.

I suppose ultimately it would boil down to a cliché of "don't give up" because I did. As a kid I dreamed of being a writer but when I was about 14 I told myself I had to grow up. That I had more chance of winning the lottery than making any money at it, and I had to get serious and pick a real career. I sobbed all night and a few years later had my first complete mental breakdown, but I digress.

Writing is in my soul. I always return to it. That's why I wish so much that I hadn't turned away from it. Those 'lost years' I mentioned. Back in 2016 I indie published a couple of books. I look at them now and cringe, and wonder how I ever got the nerve as I feel they are so badly written (hey maybe that means my skills have improved?). However, I was finally following my dream. Then... my personal life blew up (I was going to write out what happened but I'll spare you). In my fear and panic I made some decisions and I didn't write much for years. I gave up on my dream. It's only now - 8 years later!!! - that I'm coming back to it and I regret that so much.

So yeah TLDR - don't give up on the dream. Keep writing.

yes, all the time! it takes negligible time and brain power for me, and i like to let people know how much i appreciated hearing their thoughts, even when it was just a thank you and then we're in a lil awkward thanking circle.

ok, i think it just has to be a tie between "only time is ours" and "34 Days", which are check please kent/jack fics about the same pre-canon break-up events, the first from jack's pov and the second from kent's (tho iirc they have different interpretations of events beyond the pov switch, too). they are inherently angsty bc absolutely nothing is good at the end of them.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

this is so hard to decide, bc i primarily write romcoms and by the end of them if your teeth aren't rotting i did it wrong. i will give a shoutout to "doesn't matter what we do", a bts jimin/j-hope that is all about just Letting Urself Be Soulmates and then grossing out ur bandmates about it.

yes i have been known to write filth. sometimes the romcom plot calls for it. i'm horrible at pwp bc i'm always giving it plot, but u kno, sometimes the spirit moves me and i manage it.

crossovers of fandoms that have nothing to do with each other actually kind of squick me - i'm talking crossovers where characters who have never and will never meet are there for no reason (think superwholock tbh, tho i was uncharacteristically a lil into that at the time), not fusions or big universes with diff shows or whatever. it's just not for me!

but in terms of things where it's less drastic (crossing over bands in k-pop, for example) i am all over that, bc there's interesting stuff from real life there! my craziest example atm is a baekho/jun fic, and like, it's not that crazy!

this is an extremely insensitive thing to ask a ship whore like me. there are some ships that REALLY set my brain on fire over the years, though. check pls kent/jack drives me insane to this day. harry styles/nick grimshaw was So compelling. 2012 oilers "kid line" (nugent-hopkins/hall/eberle) went off.

often fandom really makes these ships worth it to talk about and inspires me to contribute. i am often very compelled by one character in particular and just ship them with everyone possible so i can examine all their sides.

What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

hmmmm if i WANT to finish it, i probably will. there are things that i ended up abandoning, though. one of those i'm still kinda sad about was a dylan/mitch/auston sequel to my connor/rystro.

What are your writing strengths?

i write realistic dialogue and i'm great at characterization (shoutout to the mean comment i got circa 2010 telling me to get good at characterization. i did. thanks.) my voice has always been strong, too.

What are your writing weaknesses?

i sometimes slack on depicting the interior emotions of characters. i'm not great with setting or exposition because the brand of fanfic i tend to write isn't a great place to practice those skills. i try to find places to do it, though!

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

it's the norm in k-pop fandom to drop in localization things like honorifics, and i like it because it can communicate relationships between the characters and so that it's not SO divorced from the context the idols actually live in. this is such a weirdly specific question, idk what else to say about it lmao

Favorite fic you’ve written?

choosing between my children? ok. at the moment i'm quite fond of too real to call it magic, a contemporary fantasy au where the main character is stuck in a dream. i felt really good about what i did with the themes and setting of the source material (a mv, so you're only 3mins and a quick google of the main characters' names away from reading this fic!) and the way i developed the relationship. it's underrated af bc it's a niche pairing.

[Book 1 of 2]

Storyline: 5/5 Smut: 10/5 (though the spice is mostly the trigger warning i supplied in the tags)

I'm warning you right now, if 'rape' is one of your triggers, this book is definitely NOT for you. Every sexual scene in this book should be considered rape, but I think the thing that keeps everyone from absolutely hating this book is that Adeline questions herself after every time they're together. She's obviously attracted to her stalker, and she gets off on being scared. Zade sees this about Adeline and continues to pursue her because he knows she likes it.

In the end, when her best friend catches them the morning after an insane sex scene (seriously, I won't be looking at the backseat of a vehicle the same ever again), Adeline confesses that her morals aren't what they should be, and she's only fought Zade every step of the way because she felt like she had to (or something along those lines). She tries to justify that Zade is the bad guy because he stalked her and society taught us that we shouldn't like it (we really shouldn't, but it's a book so...).

The book ends on a major cliffhanger, so be warned lol.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? a shadow of a memory aka hurt no comfort bad end au!! i know such a string of words may sound very unappealing but it's a good fic!!

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? uhhhhh......... i'm a sucker for happy endings (asoam notwithstanding) so i really can't say. i'm gonna go with the most self-indulgent answer and say certainty 👍 nothing happier than self-discovery (and smooches) (but there are also so many that have them getting engaged/being married by the end so. you know)

Do you get hate on fics? nope *knock on wood* (speaking of certainty, the reason i put off finishing it was because i had a very vivid dream about getting doxxed and death threats for having bad headcanons and it genuinely freaked me out for a while. good thing nothing like that happened in reality)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? the very first fic i wrote was written round-robin style with a friend nearly 20 years ago! we never published it (thank the stars). after that, nope.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will? everything in my wip folder.............. the one posted wip, heart as a compass (soulmate au), is on hiatus but i keep thinking about it. if only it wasn't 100k+ words long. that's too much!! ain't nobody got time for that (that includes both me and any potential readers)!!! out of the unposted ones i have to say serendipity (time travel au), which!! man!!! i have the setup, i have the romance, i have the fun little bits that appeal to me specifically and make me feel like a genius, i have the slowburn and the yearning and the delicious impossibility of it all, but. the plot. what is it. why is the time travel needed. i still don't know. also yet-unnamed champion!raihan au. i think about that one a lot, too. mostly the romance part and how it would be different when only one of them is a public figure. again, i'm missing the actual plot. every time i try to think about how the story of the games would pan out in this setting, i just skip straight to the end and start daydreaming about the role-switched post-eternatus hurt/comfort instead lol

What are your writing strengths? a background in linguistics and generally just. reading a lot i guess. learning by observing, absorbing everything. understanding the rules and techniques of prose. knowing where to look for guidance when you get stuck with something language-related. that sort of thing

17. What are your writing weaknesses? perfectionism. also the fact that i """have""" to write in english. this combo means that it takes a lot of work and effort! and i hate work and effort!! (anyone want to learn a globally insignificant and allegedly very difficult language that is 100% useless unless you want to live here so i could simply write in my first language and not have to deal with my nemesis (affectionate), i.e. the english language)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? if it makes sense in the narration and context, why not. not something i have personally had to deal with as a writer

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? it changes constantly. right now i can barely make myself look at any of them, let alone name a favorite. so i guess i'll say this: give a shadow of a memory a chance. it's unconventional but pretty cool

About half of the fics I've got up on A03 were imports from my LiveJournal days. The last time I was writing in a fandom that was actively airing episodes was in the post-S2 Heroes and writer's strike era. So there was no kudos equivalent.

I've been proud of the response fic like Oath of Redemption (SPN) and Howl (Hannibal) have gotten, but the response to The Tissandier Experiment has shocked me and filled my heart with joy.

Indulge me for a moment to brag about something that's probably not all that impressive in the grand scheme.

24 hours after posting my new fic, I had 16 kudos. That's a personal record for that time period. I've never kept track, but I know it is.

Now, it's up to 30, with as many subscriptions, and I'm just blown away. (Not to mention the engagement here on tumblr.)

The second comment I received warmed my heart profoundly. I love getting praise for my characterization. It's generally my #1 priority, and getting that right is a point of pride. This time, however, I got such lovely praise for my use of language and how the writing feels like the series (an elegant portrait of blood and connection), and I never knew I could want that kind of affirmation so badly.

It's just one person, of course, but my self-doubt shrank this week, and I'm stupidly pleased.

I went through more editing and rewriting passes on this work than any other. I refused to be satisfied with "good enough," though I kept myself from being trapped in perfectionsim, and it seems to have paid off.

In the future, I will no doubt stumble and fall, and all that doubt will come roaring back. But for now, I'm just so glad to have written something so well received.

Thank you all so much for reading and sharing your enjoyment, in whatever form it takes! I will try to maintain this standard as best I am capable. I have already hacked, shuffled, and rewritten portions of my rough draft to properly assemble chapter two. Things get a little more intense, and I look forward to sharing it. 💜💜💜

There is more than one way to archive a statement – Welcome to Night Vale.

It is not unusual for people to go missing in Night Vale. People go missing, or are taken and called missing by any number of the shadowy organisations which run Night Vale all the time. I'm mentioning this because a missing persons was slipped onto my desk this morning by Intern Gertrude which means I'm supposed to report on it. I told Intern Gertrude that many many people go missing in Night Vale and they almost always go missing for a good reason so it's not really news. She shrugged her shoulders and made the universal sign for 'passing it along so Station Management doesn't eat me'. So I guess I'm doing a missing person's report today.

Ahem – Missing: Jessica McEwen. Last seen around the Old Fishmarket Close. Above average height and weight. Brown hair with a pink streak. Hazel green eyes. Last seen wearing a t-shirt and jeans, her purse slung in a carefree manner over one arm as she strode up this long road in Old Town Night Vale sometime during the late evening/early night. If you have any information about Jessica's whereabouts, please whisper it into the nearest Sheriff's Secret Police hidden microphone. So pretty much just grab anything and start whispering.

It's strange, listeners, but I actually have memories of Old Fishmarket Close. That's where all the cool kids would go to smoke during their lunch period. I was uh...never invited to join – which is fine because I've also never smoked. Terrible habit.

Intern Gertrude is gesturing to the missing persons report that I read earlier. Ah I see. It's a missing persons report plural, not singular. The sheets of paper are so thin I didn't notice there was more. Here is the full list of missing people;- Jessica McEwen as mentioned, Sarah Baldwin, Daniel Rawlings, Ashley Dobson, Megan Shaw and most recently John Fellowes just...a couple of nights ago actually. Wow and they all went missing around Old Fishmarket Close! What a coincidence.

I'm just getting word that the Sheriff's Secret Police are taking the case very seriously and have blocked off both entrances to Old Fishmarket Close. They are calling the names of the missing people into the alleyway alternating between encouraging them to come out and threatening them with imprisonment if they don't. Sounds like they've got it all under control.

It seems my earlier sponsorship ad for Marlboro cigarettes has not gone down well with some members of our community. Night Vale PTA member Diane Crayton issued a statement saying that the local radio should not be promoting deadly habits to the young impressionable minds of Night Vale. Her son Josh Crayton was listening and immediately took on the form of a tall smoking chimney stack. It won't be long before other children are smoking too, because the radio told them it was cool and as everyone knows you have to do what the radio says is cool.

I can only apologise Diane, as a concerned uncle myself I want nothing more than the best for the children of Night Vale. I'm going to write a note to Station Management asking that we maybe drop today's sponsor and try for a new one. Intern Gertrude will deliver it and after the mandatory 24 hours of grovelling at the foot of Station Managements door I'm sure we'll get a positive response.

Sunday is getting way too cosy with being both the start and end of a week depending on how you look at it.

Monday recent college graduate Joshua Gillespie fresh from his vacation in Amsterdam will be daring people to open the coffin of unvarnished pale yellow wood bound tightly by a thick chain that he's been watching for a friend. You know the one. It has the words 'DO NOT OPEN' scratched into the lid in three inch high letters which just makes it even more tempting to open.

He has the key and has almost opened it several times before chickening out. It's not that he's afraid of coffins, he says, it's just that it's a weird kind of coffin, ya know? Like if you put things on top of it there's this soft insistent scratching sound from within and it's always warm even after being inside and out of the sun for ages. Anyone interested in opening it will first have to get the key from the block of ice Gillespie has put it in so as to stop himself from being tempted.

Tuesday is imagine a farm day in which all citizens are required to sit still no matter what they are doing for at least ten minutes and imagine a farm. It can be any kind of farm you like but must contain at least one animal and at least one statue to an old god of fertility.

Wednesday is cursed literature day at the library where books by Jurgen Leitner will be proudly displayed by cursed literature enthusiast and librarian tamer Mary Keay. One of these books is written in fine ink over every inch of her skin making it difficult to read or comprehend but for those dedicated enough to the craft of reading what you should not it's sure to be worthwhile.

Thursday is a blank to-do list you restlessly tap your pencil against not knowing how to start. You have things to do, but should you order them based on how difficult they are to get done or based on how quickly you need them doing? Do you have to follow the order of the list anyway or is it okay to just do bits here and there? Where did you even get these illegal writing implements?

Friday is esoteric garbage day. This day only comes once every blood moon, so be sure to leave out all your bags of teeth, haunted dolls heads, frantic prayers to your god written over and over on one long thin strip of paper and anything else that doesn't go in your usual recycling bin.

Saturday Siobhan Dobson, sister of the missing Ashley Dobson, says she might show us the apparently empty picture of Old Fishmarket Close that her sister took shortly before disappearing providing that she hasn't been returned or found dead. It's not a very useful picture, Siobhan said, but people who like true crime might enjoy looking at it for morbid curiosities sake anyway.

Sounds like another busy week! Whilst we ponder how any one of us could become missing at any point, I take you now to...the weather.

Local university student Nathan Watts says he thinks he knows what has been taking those who linger at night around Old Fishmarket Close. Last night he was out drinking with some friends of his and having had maybe a few too many started to feel violently ill. He decided it was time to walk home. He was cutting up Old Fishmarket Close when he took a tumble and was just getting up when he heard someone asking him if he had a cigarette.

The person they saw was possibly male, their face expressionless, their skin damp and slightly sunken like they had a bad fever. Nathan says that the figure was swaying from side to side a couple of inches off of the ground, moving mostly by the waist and otherwise motionless – not even opening their mouth when they asked their question again.

Nathan offered the figure one of the cigarettes he'd just rolled but it didn't make a motion to come closer and get it, nor could Nathan made his fear-frozen feet move any closer to it. He decided that he wanted to take a better look at the figure so fumbled for his phone. No sooner had it brought it out than the figure folded in two and was pulled rapidly back into the darkness. When Nathan was able to shine light into the alleyway it was completely empty. He says he has no doubt in his mind that this was the thing which had lured away those other people.

Upon this release, City Council finally revealed that all of this was actually a part of a new anti-smoking initiative they have going which involves reprogramming a Marlboro representative anglerfish to target smokers in dark alleyways. So basically don't smoke and stay out of dark small spaces, they said, it'll be fine.

When reporters mentioned that only two of the missing people were confirmed smokers city council waved all of their hands in unison and made a scoffing sound in the back of their throats.

Diane Crayton expressed approval of the City Council's new initiative, believing it will surely scare most kids and many adults into never smoking. She asked if vaping would be considered along the same lines, or if the initiative only targetted the smoking of tobacco and other such products.

City Council groaned deep in their many throats and said; “Oh we have a special plan for those kinds of people...vapers.” and then they groaned again for three minutes straight before ending the press conference with another disgusted muttering of “vapers...”

The missing people are still missing, but they were all smokers anyway (probably) so I guess that's alright? The Sheriff's Secret Police has taken away the blockades around Old Fishmarket Close and congratulated themselves on doing absolutely nothing. So, that's that.

I guess if City Council is against smoking then our own stance against today's sponsor will go down much more kindly with Station Management...I hope Intern Gertrude is okay. I might go and check.
