do y'all know about the german work report card?
it's actually called a work reference letter in english but the literal translation of Arbeitszeugnis is work report card
so, in germany, any employed worker has the right to ask their employer for such an Arbeitszeugnis once a year. It's supposed to be something you can give a potential futurr employer so that they have an idea of how skilled you are, what your work ethics are etc from an outside perspective.
Only problem is: the employer writing the Arbeitszeugnis is not allowed to say bad stuff about you. Why? Well, it's not exactly a rarity that ab employer and an employee dislike each other, often that's even the reason someone might be looking for a new job. So there's a law stopping employers from writing a bad Arbeitszeugnis that would prevent their employee from finding a new job.
Ok, kind of sensible, but there's a problem with that: if you can't write negative things in a reference letter how much of a reference is it? So since Arbeitszeugnisse aren't supposed to be utterly useless the employers have found ways to.. package negative statements in a positive giftwrap to get their point across without saying something like "My sales employee gave customers too many discounts and spends more time talking to colleagues than working." what they CAN write, however, is "My sales employee was beloved by both colleagues and customers and has high communication skills." which to us means entirely different things but another employer or someone at HR would understand. Some of the worst phrasings to have in an Arbeitszeugnis are "...made every effort to meet our requirements...", "...was able to cope with the usual time pressure and workload...", "...aimed for good results..."
You get the gist. These are the stuff of lawsuits, there's so many court rulings about which phrasings are acceptable and which aren't, there's websites where you input the employee's details, how you would rate their performance in specific categories, and it spits out an Arbeitszeugnis that you likely won't get sued for.
It has gotten to the point where a lot of employers say "Just write it yourself I'll sign it" so now they ARE getting utterly useless, and only older generations of employers and HR people value them.
thanks for reading my unnecessarily long text post about german work reference letters, you may ask questions now

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THIS SCENE!! This is the fastest I have whipped out a drawing, probably because there's barely any background.

i do love canon amy & rory but god, does some part of me wish they really had gone with the idea of the doctor picking up a child as a companion (and then later, that child’s best friend with a huge crush on her.) with the rest of the season really not changing at all, except now it’s amelia pond with an angel in her head killing her and lost alone in the woods. it’s little rory who dies and is forgotten and becomes a toy soldier. if this is going to be a fairy tale, then let it be one. children have never been safe in fairy tales.
#it wouldn’t have to change any of the actual plot of the season. except MAYBE amy’s choice but even then i think amy’s choice would be the#one episode where they should be adults. if only for the half where they live in a village in that dream.#because that’s the kind of future that children would dream up. they live in a little cottage and nothing ever goes wrong and their best#friend visits them all the time even though they’ve grown up.#they aren’t actually adults there just children with an idea of what they should be as adults and acting accordingly#and it would still end the same way.#but idk its just. rory’s 2000 years waiting for amy inside the pandorica is already tragic. yes.#now imagine its a kid. a kid in a little roman soldier helmet who will never grow up. who will not leave his best friend.#he loves her and she’s more important than the whole universe and that sort of love is supposed to MEAN something in a fairy tale!#its supposed to melt the ice out of hearts and transform people from stone.#and what that love means here. is that he will have to wait 2000 years. a child and a box.#little rory and the amelia who followed the doctor’s letters to the pandorica. and she doesn’t recognize him again.#and amelia in the pandorica… 2000 years a child trapped in a small box waiting to be rescued.#s5 is already fucked for them but it could be worse. it could be so much worse.#and it would make the doctor choosing to take her place in the pandorica to save the universe later even better.#because who else but the doctor would put the fate of the universe on the shoulders of two children and realize much too late what a#monstrous thing he’d done. and still have to hope. have to hope. that amelia would remember him fondly enough to bring him back to reality.#the logistics of all of this would have been a pain lmao. child labor laws in acting and all that.#BUT. hypothetically. it would have slapped.#doctor who#amy pond#rory williams#<- also this entire time ive been referring to him in my head as rory pond so much that i fuckin. forgot his actual last name.#and then like if you want them to be adults in s6 or whatever you can just timeskip to them getting married and still have amelia remember#the doctor there. it would work. it would.#amelia pond au

this is SUCH an insane thing to say in a random blog post/obituary especially as the author is ostensibly not a lesbian. like truly hello??? that said. well… points we’re made!! there WAS something vaguely dykey about her.
#‘if the right role had come along’ it DID if you open your eyes to the TRUTH.#I am of course referring to the second mrs de winter but I’m also referring to christabel caine of born to be bad as well as#(and say it with me here) peggy day of the women.#also lisa letter from an unknown woman is a beautiful portrait of insane comp het and eve the bigamist is of course bi. to me.#she did have something dykey about her! she did thrive in roles that I think are involved in toxic yuri situations!#old hollywood#joan fontaine#<- if someone is in the joantaine tag and just stumbles upon my insane ramblings. rip. I crave internal organization sorry#anyways this has been in my drafts forever I’m just finally bored enough at work to post it. if you’re thinking ‘hey wtf is this how did#you come across this’ see that’s easy I googled ‘joan fontaine gay’ just in case :) and now I am always thinking about this#truly I’m like 97% this was written by a straight man so I’m just like. well. look I know there’s something vaguely dykey about her but how#do YOU know that. how are you seeing that. what. it’s like (and this is topical) the production code being like hm rebecca too gay where#it’s like YEAH of course it’s gay but you weren’t supposed to know that!! also ftr I’m not actually saying anything about joantaine’s#actual sexuality here lmao. I just am like yeah you know there really was something vaguely dykey about her. why on earth did you say it#like this in your blog post from 2013 about her death. why did you say ‘much less enjoyed heterosexual thrusting’ what????#my post#there is nothing about this paragraph that isn’t a at least little bit crazy lmao. it’s beautiful. why did he say this??#also ‘may I say something I’ve never said before’ yeah sure buddy speak your truth

i feel like some artists who like working with text + drawing don't realize that writing letters is also drawing.
words are made up of marks and shapes; text is as much a part of the image as the drawing, even if we classify it differently. you Can write your text in the same style you might use to write a grocery list, but i think it's a missed opportunity...
Just like you can practice to improve your drawing skill and cultivate an art style through referencing various things, you can practice to improve your handwriting-for-art and eventually develop a coherent writing style. the best part is that artistically treated type doesn't need to be "beautiful" or legible, just expressive and tuned to your general artistic goals.
in this way, text is a powerful tool for expressing your creative vision!

#VENT#VENT TAGS AHEAD !!#so the job is...awful.#i applied for 20-25 hours#they asked if i could do 30#and now theyre pushing me into 40.#i didn't realize that when i agreed to 30 that was NOT binding (i should have known because it wasn't in my job offer. but i am 19 and--#ive never had a job offer letter before. even tho this is just retail)#and i can't adjust my availability for 90 days.#and since i put full availability expecting 25 hours max#now i have FULL 24/7 AVAILABILITY ON FILE for three months at least#and i have no idea what to do because this means i cant commit to any classes coming up for college#but ive been job hubting for months and barely got anything#and if i lose the job i have to move back in with my dad which is almost worse#whats wirse is my leader/boss is so mean. im not saying this lightly#i dont want to get into it but im barely a week in and he's made disrespectful and pushy comments towards me#has basically told me to stay late (which theoretically i cluld say no; but im still on my three months of 'we will fire you if we want to'#and like i said. need the job.#so he told me to stay late knowing i cant really say no#he's given me a frankly absurd amount of work (instock and i get carts filled woth 2-3x their max capacity unorganized and dangerously--#overloaded) and then he pushes me and snaps at me to get it done in an absurdly short timeframe while im still in TRAINING#im afab and present femme as i haven't transitioned irl and he is so ragingly sexist#he often just refers to me and the other girl being trained as 'girl' or 'that girl#and to top it all off#i took this job over a second interview at a place i really liked#because i thought the hours at this olace would be more consistent#nope! full time! surprise!!#and now im kicking myself so fucking hard over it. i feel like i fucked up so hard#and my friend i moved here with has been home for two months and will be this month so im just. alone. and i don't really have anyone to#turn to. im just so very stressed and tired and lonely

one action that i haven't seen a ton of people discuss online is writing a letter to the editor (not one specific editor, that's just what they're called). i'm thinking of palestine, but a lot of this can apply to other things. jvp has a letter to the editor guide here if u think you'd find that helpful. it's specific to jvp members from what i remember, so take what applies. individual papers will sometimes have their own sets of guidelines as well so be mindful of those. letters are generally more likely to make it to print when it comes to local papers, but you can also write letters to like. the nyt or wapo. you're just more likely to not get a response. as tools for social change, letters' purpose is to sway public opinion and pressure via institutions of media. i focus on local papers because, like with bds campaigns targeting college campuses, this stuff is going to start on a smaller scale first, but can and does build over time. think of one berkeley branch voting to divest very soon after another did first. this is like that to me.
i recommend seeing what other articles individual papers have about palestine just to get a feel for what might be most impactful for you to write about, or what still needs to be said. for local papers, you might want to tie it to your community in some way (and that might even be a requirement to get in the paper), so you can talk about, for example, how much money comes out of your specific area for israel, using uscpr's funding map. you can talk about protests in your area. if there are arab, palestinian, and/or muslim communities in your area, you talk about them. if there are medical facilities or lots of families in your area, you can talk about them. if there's a big tech presence in your area, you can relate it to that. education, youth, food, policing, etc. there's something. there are probably multiple lines of connection between your local community and palestine. you can also just respond to a published article or lte.
if you are writing a letter to the editor, it will be considered an opinion piece, so you can include opinions or things that may be seen as more subjective. check out other letters to the editor to get a sense for the type of tone/content/etc they are looking for. don't be afraid to break or bend those rules, but it's helpful to be aware of the general vibe of the paper, what's likely to get published, and what needs to be said.
what do you want your community to be talking about? what needs to be brought to their attention? what misconceptions need to be corrected? what issues do you want to put on the table? what do you want to add to the conversation? what's missing? what should be done about it?
if you can't make it to in-person actions, this can all be done online. and if you consider yourself good with words, this may be an area in which you're uniquely effective.
ps: citing other articles or sources is always helpful and is a way to platform other articles/books/texts that u think should be shared, although i don't think that's usually a requirement for ltes. if u can't think of one, ask around.

I actually like the last chapter. I think the ideas are very good. I have my qualms on how some things were managed, as I always do, but I think shonen authors get tangled in the expectations of a shonen to the point it jeopardises their writing, often even when they're not lacking in skills
#I think the nothingness‚ the absence‚ the moving on despite everything‚... is a good if heartbreaking idea#and we do see snippets of it throughout the entire manga‚ yet I think it is mostly lacking in execution#I like the quiet ways in which we see the characters mourn. How Megumi laughs at the letter‚#how Shoko muses about how Satoru should have let her take care of Geto's body‚ the faint smile when Megumi agrees‚#how Shoko quits smoking again‚ Yuuji giving this person hope and a second chance‚ making a reference to him not being executed‚#and giving Sukuna too a chance for him to take one day a different path#All those are very good ideas and all those are very moving quiet ways of grieving. But. It feels in general so lacking#There's so much of everything else in contrast‚ even things that have way less importance narratively than this most of the time‚#that it feels lacking. Especially with how one has to dig to find these things. There's so much that could have been done with the same idea#And done so much better. But the idea is good. The absences are good. The quiet presences are good. The nothingness is good if bitter and sad#But it could have been written better#I also think this ending with Yuuji apparently knowing about Sukuna‚ his lies‚ his little hint of softness‚ the potential second path‚...#makes even more believable why he'd try at all to offer him a second chance. And I love that Yuuji knows him and I love that he still...#leaves the door open for that second chance to occur at some point. Trusting that Sukuna would walk that other path next time#And I love that without openly acknowledging Gojo he demonstrates that he hasn't forgotten him in his acting#How he gives that guy a second chance‚ how he jokes about him not getting executed‚ how he wants to make sure people‚ 'problem children'‚#don't get left behind. He doesn't mimick Gojo in his power but in this flippant but caring aspect and thus he's not forgotten#I do like this. It's heartbreaking. Gojo's desire to be forgotten is bittersweet as it's in a way a desire for... normalcy and humanity#To be surpassed. It goes well with how Gege says Gojo can do anything and thus why he does nothing‚ not even hobbies‚#to leave something for the future generations and not being another wall in their achievements#Gojo's desire to be forgotten is in line with the constancy of his writing when it comes to being drunk on his status#and yet resentful of his loneliness. It's a mix of being left behind and not being left behind#For being left behind and forgotten would mean he is more like the rest. Just another step forwards#And he'd have done what he wanted to achieve. Sorcerers can't stop a long while to grieve but Yuuji takes his words and actions#into consideration and steps forwards. Does the same. Fulfills Gojo's expectations. Walks towards the future. And that's the legacy Gojo#wanted and not going down in history as a legend or the strongest. He was just a teacher. Like Yaga was. He was not even the principal#Just a teacher. His role‚ the role he chose for himself‚ has been fulfilled. Now all this could have done way better#Something of Yuta and Megumi given their dynamics with Gojo would have been good. But I guess Gojo's 'at least one' works well#with Yuuji being the one doing the work. Yuuji was also ontologically alienated since birth and still he too remained cheerful and flippant#despite being so lonely so I guess the final parallel is intentional. But it could have been managed better still. The idea is good though

Lovelace never shared this part of her backstory with the crew ‘onscreen’ so it’d be fun if when she goes “I’m going to dismantle Goddard Futuristics” everyone else asks “with another improvised bomb? with your cool alien powers?” and she goes “no, with my dad, who’s a federal judge”
