I found you through your giveaway post and wow! Your art is so pretty and I am honestly in awe! Do you have any tips for people wanting to improve?

Hi there, welcome to my blog. 🤗 Thank you so very much for your lovely compliment. That’s very kind of you. I still make a lot of mistakes myself when it comes to art but I’ll gladly share some tips that have worked for me in my art journey. They are in no way universal of course and I can only speak from my own experience but if some of those tips help a fellow artist out, I’d be happy. 💕

Practise regularly. Despite of what some people might think you aren’t getting born with the gift to be a good artist. It’s all about practise. Don’t let it get you down when you struggle to draw certain things. Keep in mind that repetition is the key. You need to build a visual library first before you can draw properly. And building that visual library will take a long while, especially when it comes to anatomy.

Use references. There is no shame in using references. In fact, you need references to build your visual library. Whenever I paint, I always use multiple reference images for everything that I’m not quite certain about. For example, let’s say I’m wanting to paint flowers but I have no real clue what those flowers actually look like, then I’ll get myself a reference image. When I’m looking into a complex pose, I might even take some pictures of myself in that pose just to create a reference that fits my needs. Those pics tend to look rather funny sometimes. 😅 But hey, they are just for studying purpose. And also, don’t aim for an exact copy of your reference (unless youmake a study), you’ll hardly ever find a reference that fits your needs completely, so try to improve it. Make it your own.

Flip your canvas regularly. I can’t stress enough how important it is. When you’re in the zone it happens easily that you get blind to your own mistakes. Flipping the canvas allows you to have a fresh eye on your art and suddenly you’ll see all of your mistakes and can fix them. Apparently, some people don’t flip their canvas because they think their drawing looks ugly when flipped. Guess what, everyone sees it that way. 😆 So do yourself a favour and keep flipping that canvast hroughout your process.

Study values before you begin to study colours. Learning everything at once can be overwhelming so it might help to learn painting in greyscale first to get your values right before you jump into colour. You might get some nice results quickly that way, especially when you are starting out with portraits. Turn your references to greyscale as well when you study.

Grab yourself some nice brushes that feel comfortable for you to work with. I’m personally a fan of dry oil brushes or chalk brushes (I do like textured brushes) but the main point is that you feel comfortable with them. But keep in mind that the brushes are just a tool, they won’t do the work for you.

Find artists you look up to and observe their work. Why does their work appeal to you so much? What makes it special? Some of my favorite artists are J.C. Leyendecker, J.W.Waterhouse (Pre-Raphaelites in general), William Turner, Caspar David Friedrich, Alfons Mucha, Leonardo DaVinci and Caravaggio

Check out Youtube! There are so many good channels around with helpful tips. Marco Bucci for example has this series called “10 minutes to better painting” with a lot of helpful tips! And those episodes are quite entertaining to watch as well. I also enjoy Swatches, and I like to watch WLOP’s or Astri Lohne’s process videos. I find it very inspiring to observe their process.

And last but not least be kind to yourself and be patient. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Only when you allow yourself to make mistakes, you’ll eventually overcome them aswell and that’ll allow you to grow as an artist. There was a time when I couldn’t stand to look at my sketches because I found them ugly. That actually got me down until I realised that they merely serve as construction lines for my finished paintings.

This turned out rather long and even though there is so much more I could list I don’t want to overwhelm you. If there is anything else, you’d like to know feel free to ask and I’ll gladly answer. 💕

Andy and Makayla’s respective journeys demonstrate where people go to find hope and healing and how hard it can be to find where those things truly lie. They also serve as motivation/catalysts for their parents’ character growth.

100. Are they a day, or night person? 

Makayla is definitely a day person. She likes to attack her day head on from dawn till dusk. Andy is a night person. He feels safer in the solitude and anonymity of darkness.

81. Do they have any tattoos? If so, are they significant?

Ian has a tatoo of a raven on his left forearm. It signifies a specific allegiance.

1. they could care less (as long as someone’ll bleed)

This is number one mostly because it’s my favorite fic that I’ve written for five!!! I felt really inspired writing it and I had a lot of fun with it. It’s one of the fics where I really tried to work out a fight scene and I was super pleased with how it turned out! 

2. The Vanishing Boy

This one was just loads of fun to write and figure out. Plus I got to make memes for tua and get into fun conspiracy stuff. 

3. it’s always darkest before dawn

This fic is my favorite ive ever written for Babylon 5. I felt like it turned out really well and I got to experiment with POV and some fun eldritch sort of horror almost that I haven’t really worked with before. 

4. i don’t think i’ll ever get to see it

This was written waaay back in January (a different world then) I wrote it after having read Dracula and i still want to continue it when I get the inspiration again. 

5. under a crimson sky 

This is tied with cinnamon and sugar, sprinkles and smoke for my favorite critical role fic. Its a long fic (at least for me) and I had lots of fun giving Caleb angst. I’m still proud of the scene with Beau and I think it turned out beautifully.

now that's out of the way. hey! i love you. it's your birthday! it's kinda late (hhh oops) and i hope you had a good one despite the uh. all the chaos. youre old now!! Hey guys, I’m Wren (@woogwoo-wren, been screaming in the tags a lot in the wake of the clone wars finale) and I’ve started this blog to throw all my star wars stories and OCs! 

So here’s my first OC, Vyena Ru’wan. She’s a former Jedi Padawan who got accidentally adopted by a smuggler/Mandalorian (still working on his backstory) named Jebrin Veer after her master was killed during the Clone Wars. More in depth backstory under the cut. 

She was born on Ryloth around 38 B.B.Y. and when the Jedi informed her parents she was Force sensitive, her parents refused to give her up. Unfortunately, not even a year after this happened, pirates, led by a man named Dnessh Wagner attacked Vyena’s village, killing or capturing most of her family. Fortunately for Vyena, Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos and his Padawan Aayla Secura were visiting Aayla’s home on Ryloth, and managed to rescue the child, bringing her back to the temple with them. 

Vyena was young enough to be accepted into the Jedi temple, and there she was raised with barely any memory of her family on Ryloth, aside from the occasional nightmare of the attack, which grew less as she grew older. When she was old enough, she was became the Padawan of a young Jedi Knight, a zebrak called Briz Drast. 

Then the Clone Wars began. Vyena and her master were sent on a mission together, a supposedly simple one. It turned out to be far more complicated, and Briz was killed, their transport destroyed and Vyena found herself stranded on a far flung planet in the Outer Rim. 

After surviving alone for a few weeks, trying to find a way back to Coruscant and the Jedi temple, Vyena stumbled upon Jebrin Veer, a smuggler visiting the planet. She convinced him to give her a lift back to Coruscant, and he couldn’t really say no to this kid. 

Only thing was - they kept getting distracted. Vyena and Jeb were pulled into different missions, helping people on planets they found themselves on and just not going back to Coruscant. Somehow they found themselves forming a small crew around them, including a clone who was left for dead on a planet, and slowly Vyena began to realize she may not want to go back to the Jedi.

Anyway, that’s my girl! I’ve had her for years and I’m excited to finally start doing something with her! Feel free to send me asks or anything, I’ll try to get some art up for Jeb and Butter (the clone) and a couple other characters I’m slowly developing!

1. Do you think aliens exist, and if so, what are they like?

I’m kind of...agnostic on the existence of aliens, I guess? I don’t strongly think they should exist, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they did (more surprised that the moment of discovery would happen in my lifetime - that’s kind of an astonishing generation to be a part of). 

If aliens do exist, they will utterly surprise us, and we’ll learn to think about life and intelligence in ways we never considered. 

2. If you could learn any language overnight, real or fictional, which would you want it to be?

For a real language, Georgian is famously hard to learn but I’ve always been kind of fascinated by it ever since I saw what their script looked like (they also have words that begin with 8 consonants in a row):

Fictional, the alien language from Arrival. (Such a good movie, I don’t want to elaborate and spoil it)

3. Would you rather be able to shapeshift or turn invisible?

Shapeshift. Much more flexible, and, depending on the rules, you could basically get invisibility for a lot of situations, too. Just turn into an insect. (I’d probably use it to turn into a bird, mostly, though)

4. What’s your favorite smell?

Tea, probably. Also rainy weather. 

5.  What was your favorite childhood movie?

The Incredibles. (Still astounded by it every time I rewatch it, really.)

6. What’s a family tradition you want to keep up through your adulthood?

Starting Christmas eve dinner by turning out all the lights, then lighting candles one by one as we read scripture

7. If you could marry any fictional character(s), who would it be?

Hmm, this isn’t something I really think about much. Endeavor Morse is an exception that comes to mind.

8. What do you do to relax?

Make a cup of tea, put on music or an audiobook, find something to do with my hands, or some kind of puzzle game.

9. Fruit or vegetables?

Can I say both?

10. What kind of games do you like playing with others?

Well, in general I love playing games with people (especially complex ones like Betrayal at House on the Hill), but nothing quite matches playing dnd. Probably prefer being a player, but I like dming almost as much. (I miss my dnd group! We’ve been playing over discord but it’s not the same :/)

Favorite music/bands?: Folk, Indie, Alternative (which ranges anywhere from soft and chill to ragey and chaotic) and Worship music. I love Lord Huron, The Oh Hellos, Sleeping At Last, The Hunts, The Gray Havens, Avi Kaplan, Lewis Capaldi, The Score, little bit of AJR, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Radical Face. Worship-music wise, Rend Collective is my go to (their album Good News is my favorite 🙌) and I really like MercyMe.

Other blogs?: nah, just me. I do have an IG where I post all my art, but I find myself leaning more towards using tumblr as I don’t feel as much internal pressure to preform on this platform. Idk, I feel like I’ve let IG warp some of my thought processes when it comes to making/sharing art and I don’t want it to just be something I do for likes or shares. So I’m trying to fix that a bit via tumblr cuz it feels so much bigger and easier to just vibe in.

OH! And @anderil, @melty94, @suja-janee, and @ken0biz are easily some of my favorite art pages. Melty posts a lot of Star Trek and doctor who stuff too which honestly is the best 👌

What are you wearing right now?: well.. if you must know 👀 a yellow hoodie, sweat shorts, and a t-shirt on my head cuz it’s less abrasive than a towel to my curly head and I just spent all day out on a lake, these curls need to stew in some leave-in conditioner for a while 😂

Favorite food?: Pizza. I’ve never had a non-edible pizza. If there’s stuff you don’t like you can pick it off, and you can add on as much variety of toppings as you want. It’s amazing. (The same applies to sandwiches which are a close second.) Mac N Cheese pizza is one of my favorites 😂 I also really like eggs.

Favorite drink?: Chick Fil A Lemonade👌 which I really miss.... 😔

(Favorite?) Instruments: I’m never not gonna love hearing a violin. I also really like the mandolin and would love to take it up someday. I personally play piano, uke, and like three chords on a guitar.

Celebrity Crushes?: ok so like... crush has a very broad definition for me. It could mean anything from good old fashioned admiration to physical attraction to emotional attraction so bear with me cuz this list is weird if viewed through the normal idea of a “crush”. Peter Capaldi, James Arnold Taylor, Robin Atkin Downes, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Fischbach, Avi Kaplan, Andy Serkis, Ewan McGregor, Sam Witwer, and I know there’s more but I’m so tired rn

Random fact: The darkest part of a shadow is called the Umbra and the lighter part is called the Penumbra. (This is the only solid fact I remember from 1st grade science and I’ve never forgotten it so I figure it must be important 😂)

Favorite eco-system?: I mean the ocean is pretty lit (and also a biome so I guess I technically can’t say it’s an eco-system) so if I really have to break it down I’d say coral reefs. There’s just so much going on in there guys like not to be a VSCO girl on main but save👏the👏reefs👏

Favorite cat?: all and I’ll throw in my favorite dog breed for fun: Samoyed. Oh how I would love to own a big fluffy white cloud of hypo-allergenic floof like a Sammy 🥰

Average sleep: Okay so... I love sleep and think it's important. I strive to get 9 hours every single night and most nights I do. Last night though... I couldn't get to sleep for two hours. It was ridiculous. So I got like 7 hours of sleep last night instead.

Lucky number: In my experience, there's no such thing as luck. I will say though that I like the number 24 because of all the ways you can add up to it.

Currently wearing: A light blue plaid button up shirt and a pair of bootcut jeans. I wear stuff like this quite literally 24/7. I actually do not own any pajamas at all.

Dream job: I don't really know. See, there's all sorts of things that go into a dream job... Profitability, demand, skill. My plan is to go into a trade like plumbing or HVAC or possibly welding but that takes a lot of time to get to. If I didn't have to worry about money and getting a college degree to qualify, it'd be awesome to teach history at a college. I don't think I'm quite good enough of a teacher to teach literature though, unfortunately. Being a comic book creator would be really awesome too and I've entertained notions similar to that for like 4 years. Comics are cool. So is filmmaking. I'm a creative person, and I plan on a job that will keep me financially and mentally stable. All that said, my current job as a trail guide is one that I love to death. I'm also really excited about (hopefully) being on summer camp staff (waiting on an email back from the program director now... Ee!)

Dream trip: I'm not a person who likes to travel. I don't harbor dreams to go west for vacation or anything like that. I just wanna live outta the back of my truck in a nice wooded lot with a stream moving through it and keep some animals and have a garden, all worked into the permaculture of the forest. So I'd rather live somewhere awesome than visit somewhere people say they enjoy.

Favorite food: Okay so food, like sleep, is something I love. I can't really pick a favorite food. I really like sea food and pasta and ice cream? The weirdest food I ever ate was crocodile meat fried in cornmeal. Very tasty.

Favorite song: Probably The Mandelorian theme song! I love that one. I don't like lyrical songs and most songs I don't remember the names of or whatever, but I've listened to the Mandelorian enough that it's distinctions make it easy to remember and also really enjoyable!

Instruments: I have played piano for ten years and I fiddle around on the guitar every so often.
