"Oh so now she's my cousin?" Sirius retorted, drawing out the 'my' and feigning a pearl clutch.

"Well technically she's always been your cousin," Regulus volleyed back matter-of-factly.

"She's your cousin too Reg, and in fact we only talk to her because of you," Sirius huffed.

"All I'm saying is he is a little shit." Regulus folded his arms as he spoke with a tone of finality.

"Darling, I don't know how to tell you this but umm what did you expect? First of all he's a Malfoy... second of all you know who his parents are, and honestly a kid named Draco has to be a bully otherwise he would get bullied." James placed a gentle hand on Regulus' shoulder as came to stand behind him.

Regulus fell into James' chest, and leaning his head back on James' shoulder he sighed: "well maybe he needs to be bullied," and a small glint appeared in his eyes.

"Reg, no. Come on Harry would be so upset."

Regulus quickly spun around to look at James. He pointed a finger at him, "oh fine but if it wasn't for him I would be bullying that twerp."

"Agreed" Sirius and James said in unison.

"What did he do?" Remus asked.

Sirius' mouth fell open in brief betrayal. "Moony come on. You can't seriously be trying to play devil's advocate. It's Lucius Malloy's boy! He's bound to be a dick," Sirius waved his arms dramatically as he spoke, but no one missed the upturn of his lips as he purposefully messed up the last name.

"I just want to know the story," Remus said waving Sirius off, who only rolled his eyes in response.

"You just want the gossip," Regulus corrected.

"Sue me," Remus said shrugging his shoulders.

"He bought his way onto the quidditch team and then called his daddy when Harry beat him anyway before breaking his arm..." James explained.

"HE BROKE HIS ARM?" Remus jumped up from his seat. He looked between the three others incredulously.

"Technically his house elf set a bludger after him," Regulus corrected.

"Here we go again, you and the elves..." Sirius threw his arms in the air and dropped them quickly by his side.

Regulus continued as if Sirius didn't exist: "If I thought he was smart enough to charm it himself, I would be pushing it harder, but that kid is as dumb as his hair is blonde. Harry is fine though, Madame Pomfrey is excellent as always." Regulus glossed over the insult and quickly a warm feeling fell over the group at the reminder of Madame Pomfrey's caring abilities.

After a moment Remus spoke. Breaking the silence: "It's a good thing he's got a crush on the Weasley girl,"

The others looked at him a bit quizzically.

"What? If he's anything like his fathers, we'll all be lucky if doesn't end up in love with the boy," And Remus burst into laughter. While Sirius' barks soon followed, James and Regulus shared worried looks.

Dead Boy Detectives Ship Names

Alr so there seems to ongoing discussion pertaining to this and I'd like to add my own two cents

Edwin x Charles

So what I've seen online so far is just various mashups of their names in the classic way such as: Chedwin, Payneland/Paynland/Pain(e)land -> What I haven't seen is Charwin or Rowpayne (I do like Payneland apart from the bit where if you say it out loud it sounds like pain land)

I however think it could be cute if they had one of the other types of ship names (e.g. Ineffable husbands, firstprince, wolfstar, frostiron). If it didn't have the potential to get too confusing I would advocate for the ship name 'Dead Boy Detectives or DBD' simply because that is already their shared title (alas that wouldn't really work as it's also the name of the show). Another name I'd like to more seriously put forward is BestMates. It's cringe sure but the way Charles says it in the confession scene. I feel like some name that references them hiding from death or escaping hell together could be really cute too but I can't think of one rn. I don't think they need separate ship names for romantic or platonic since I think trying to box their relationship into a category like that when it is its own thing is unfair.

Edwin x Cat King

We all agree that the cat king is called Thomas right? I feel like that seems pretty unanimous so far. Tomwin? Edmas? PayneKing?CatWin? WinKing or KingWin. Ngl KingWin feels right to me cuz the cat king spends most of his time trying to win Edwin over so their shipname also being a nod to their relationship triumphing is kinda fun.

For those who haven’t read ATYD, at this time Remus and Sirius’s relationship is sort of falling apart at this time; Sirius and Remus don’t trust each other enough and despite living together they don’t talk anymore , at least not about the important things. You do not need to have read ATYD to understand this but be warned, it will hit much harder if you have. So bearing all this in mind, today's song is You’re Losing Me: Midnights from the vault. Remus sits in their flat and remembers how excited they were to live together; he wonders where the excitement and love went.

Remus is breaking apart, wondering if he should give up or keep fighting for Sirius. He can’t stop thinking of the moment that they knew for sure  that there was a spy in the order, and how the first person Sirius looked at was him.

Remus began to fight with Sirius, to lash out because of his own pain. Sirius says he loves Remus but their love is dying.

Their whole world has become war, life has become loss and fear. I think because of my age and history in the fandom and relationship with canon I never gave the idea of married Wolfstar much thought.

Having got older and seeing the fandom move on I'm more open to it, and really enjoy seeing fanon ideas of how they think it could work. I'm a huge advocate for people interpreting the characters however they like.

Plus the niggling idea in the back of mind for a fix-it fic leaves me pondering this all a bit more.

If I really think about it my personal headcanon would be I'm not sure I can see Remus and Sirius getting married. My feeling is the ceremony and the formality of it would not appeal to either of them, perhaps for different reasons.

I do, however, like to think of them being together for a very long time 💜

This should not be a hot take, but I’m sure it will be treated as one. It started as a comment thread and I decided to combine it as a post for clarity.

TLDR: The Slytherin Skittles’ and male characters’ popularity is not fetisisation. Fictional characters are objects, they cannot be objectified. Only real people can. Don’t objectify real people. Fandom is escapism, always has been. Tags on fics are vital. Smut is ethical porn.

I think the changes in the Marauders fandom are largely due to the continued divergence from canon. While fandom used to be centred around canon, people would use canon as a weapon to disparage fanfics or headcanons they didn’t like. This happened constantly when the concept of Wolfstar first began becoming popular in the 90s. By the late 2010s, Wolfstar was a cornerstone and generally accepted. This new wave is simply continuing to push those limits. Consider how popular dark fantasy and dark romance have become.

It fully tracks that fandom would follow suite. As for femme fandom “fetishising mlm,” I would remind you that fandom has always been largely escapism. As a femme person, it is much easier to explore traumatic and romantic experiences with characters they don’t identify with. It allows a level of distance for both author and reader.

While fetishisation of queer people does happen and is a problem, these characters are fictional. Objectifying fictional characters is a misnomer. They are already objects. They cannot be harmed in reality because they do not exist. Objectifying REAL people is fetishisation and IS harmful. Fandom has always been a space to explore dark fantasies and fetishes privately and safely without harm to anyone.

That is the reason the tag system exists. You can protect your peace while others protect theirs. Tagging fics is important to identify triggers that people may wish to avoid. It is necessary and responsible to tag content and fics appropriately. However, you as a reader are responsible for your own consumption of content. No one forced you to read a fanfic or watch Slytherin focused Tik Toks. You chose to engage with that content.

Glorifying death eaters and exploring their characters is another form of escapism and isn’t harmful to anyone. It’s when that glorification transfers to reality that it becomes problematic. When death eaters are equated to nazis and then nazis are glorified, that is destructive to real people. There is a distinct difference and that is a nuance often overlooked.

This is the reason that smut is an outlet for so many femme people. They are causing no harm in finding sexual gratification from fictional characters, whereas some forms of pornography does hurt real people. Smut is a safe, ethical outlet. Our personal morality does not give anyone the right to shame others for their reading preferences.

Again: I do not advocate objectifying real people! Understand the difference. Know the line you cross when you lose sight of what is real and what isn’t. Fantasies are not inherently harmful. It is only when they cross the line to reality that they can become harmful.

ahhh, i had to have some time to think about this one cuz i didn't really have a concrete idea, but i believe ive got something that i somewhat like

basically, Barty Evan, and a few others in the group such as Regulus, Pandora, and James, etc etc are all horse back riders, like the equestrian type of horse back riding,

they're all in a competition together, and everyone else is very friendly, having known each other for a while, while Barty, is basically a loner in the group

Evan, being curious, wants to invite Barty to hang out with them or whatever, but Barty is pretty stubborn and tells him to fuck off,

Obviously, Evan does not fuck off

from Barty's pov on the other hand, he has grown up horse riding and competing in competitions to make his father proud, and because of his dad and the mixture of being focused on the competition side of things, Barty doesn't really interact with other competitors

que a bunch of moments of Evan trying to get Barty to stop focusing on the competition so much and loosen up, maybe a few soft moments while their brushing horses, yk the stuff

i imagine once Barty (reluctantly) agrees to go out with the other competitors (maybe hes sneaking out or smth too) he meets everyone in the group, some he recognizes as his competitors and some he doesn't

and, as a fun little surprise, he recognizes one of the people who isn't competing as a childhood friend, Dorcas Meadowes, and theres a whole moment where they're kinda like: *spiderman pointing meme*

i don't really have anything else, maybe some small ideas like established jeggy & wolfstar, remus isnt a competitor but sirius, james, and regulus are, maybe pandamarylily with both pandora & lily being competitors & mary being their biggest supporter & dorlene with both them not being competitors but they're involved with the group anyway, etc etc, you get the jist

basically just Evan being an annoying fuck and Barty wanting to strangle him but then it slowly starts to become "fuck i want to kiss him now"

For Wolfstar:

☠ - angry/violent headcanon - They tend to argue/fight more closer to the full moon, because Remus's tolerance level is low at those times. They tousle more in their animal forms than human, but have been know to shove each other on occasion.

∇ -. old age/aging headcanon - After the second war (that they survived), they buy a house on the English coast and get married. Harry is a fixture at their house, and their life slows down since they don't have to worry about all of the bad things happening anymore. They become grandads to Harry's kids.

ൠ - random headcanon - Since growing up, Sirius didn't have any agency over his space, he dabbles in interior design and becomes quite good at it. Remus tutors kids who are too young for Hogwarts after the war and advocates for werewolves' rights.
