So an ad for Detroit: Become Human popped up
And it begins with the quotes “thought-provoking” and “pulls no punches” from some respectable news outlets, showing some android faces, pretty straightforward. But then this takes up the entire ad:
Tumblr media
And that’s when it gets my attention, because the presence of those blue letters implies some kind of meaning, right? They aren’t even at the start of each word, they’re deliberate, there’s something they’re trying to say.
The words disappear, to be replaced by the game’s cover art, but I’m still thinking about it, wondering what it spelled. WOGF? No, that can’t be right—but I refresh the page, and that’s what it reads. WOGF. Could the blue letters be rearranged into something? Maybe they’re meant to be the parts you ignore, and the white letters hold the actual message?
I get as far as HO FAR WILL before it hits me. On the cover art, the game’s logo replaced the O in Detroit with a glowing blue circle that looks like it should be powering an Iron Man suit. It’s just an arbitrary stylistic choice, with no particular rhyme or reason to it.
That’s when I realize that this marketing campaign is actually a great indicator of what you get when you buy a David Cage game.
There’s some high-brow stuff, though the quotes at the beginning conspicuously didn’t mention quality. There’s a big high-concept question — “how far will you go to be free?” — that seems like it offers a lot of nuance and something to think about, but falls apart the second you start paying attention to it. And then the final image is of a celebrity actor rendered with more polygons than most entire PlayStation 2 games had in entire worlds, because the high production values and the impressive technical achievements can distract us from the lack of depth long enough to make a purchase.
Honestly, just...don’t buy this game. No matter what you’re looking for, you probably won’t find it there. No insightful social commentary, no artistic merit, no fun narrative gameplay, and honestly no gameplay that has anything more to offer than serving another shallow and misguided story full of cardboard characters.
And hey, if I haven’t convinced you: his previous game, Beyond: Two Souls, is free with May’s PlayStation Plus. Download it, play it, get to the point where the story stops making sense and the genre shifts dramatically, and then see if you really want to see that gameplay and writing applied to civil rights and robots.

After much consideration, I decided to attend Pyrkon this year. I will probably dress normally (and by normally I mean my Starfleet "uniform" a.k.a my uniform blouse plus black pants) for the first day and do my Andorian cosplay for the second day.
Wanted to have a different Trek cosplay, but alas due to my work I wasn't able to create anything new this year... sorry... :(
Anyway, if you wanna stop by to say "hi" and/or have quick chit-chat I will be hanging by the WOGF (Greater Poland's Starfleet Division) booth - idk exactly where it is (I've yet to check out the plan), but I'm p. sure you'll be able to spot us since we will be having a bunch of bat'leth's and a Klingon armor on display.
So, hopefully, see you next weekend. ;)

💞🦋💞 Nia celebrated her 15th birthday yesterday! When she came to me before going to bed and said, “Mom, thank you guys for making this my VERY BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!” —my heart was overjoyed! If you knew even half of what we’ve been through over the years from her birth to now prior to 2016, you’d understand the depths of that. God moved in so many ways yesterday and showed us how His hand is truly on our lives, how he knows our hearts and is so very faithful to us beyond anything we could ever ask or think! Walking in faith is frightening but sooo worth the courageous steps required! At church on Sunday at Word of God Fellowship Church, Pastor Mitch Summerfield talked about the importance of having GREATER FAITH. We received that powerful message for ourselves with the determination to truly challenge ourselves daily to do THAT! Nia is so incredibly happy and THAT means everything to me. A special thank you to everyone who chose to acknowledge her on her special day! This Mom of 15 years is noways tired! This is just the beginning of our new and continuous season of GREATER and GREATER! I intentionally stayed off of social media to truly live in and enjoy every single second of her very, very special day. 💞🦋💞#proudmom #nofilter #naturalbeauty #noperms #birthdaygirl #sweet15 #sweet15dress #wogf #birthdaytwin #march25 #bestbirthdayever #vessellife #love #peace #happiness #greatfaith #greaterfaith 💯 https://www.instagram.com/p/BvdyVZSH_Qb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jxz1e0graho4
