I would like to say I've slowed down a bit on BATFAMILY fic over the last month, but that's kind of a lie because fandom has put out some absolute banger longer fics and I've been reading a lot of comics (can you believe how many comics I've been enjoying?? I have never felt so spoiled for choice!), so I still feel like I'm inhaling everything as fast as I can go and it's GREAT. It's a constant stream of crying about fictional characters in canon, crying about fictional characters in sad fic scenarios, crying about fictional characters in happy fic scenarios, and crying about fictional characters because other people care about our babies, too. Also, I have decided I no longer have a Dick Grayson Problem that you must all suffer through to get some variety in the recs, but instead I have a Dick Grayson Solution. You're all welcome. But I'll mix it up a bit just for you guys, so hopefully you find something fun to read no matter your fave and have a good time, because this fandom has been knocking it out of the park with the fic that has given me a good time, READ AND CRY WITH ME, OKAY. Past: Some of you might remember my #storgewip tag and to the old guard, I salute you. Storge is my old high school WIP which is a prequel to my old middle-school epic fantasy series, the Laoche Chronicles, and when I first made this blog, I'd just finished the first draft of the manuscript which took me 6 years to complete. It follows the Laine family as they try to keep their city-state from descending into civil war and anarchy as multiple political factions clash and the magical nature of their world is upended. I love it, but it's a disaster, so I've shelved it until I've developed the skills to do it justice.

Present: Y'all are sick to death of hearing me talk about Runaways

Future: End of the Road! It's a new adult coming of age story about road trips and ghosts! I've got a rough outline for it and I'm going to work on it over the summer.

This is another Reversed Robin fic - it focuses on Dick recovering from Slade's beatings and attempting to turn him into an apprentice. Fans of Whump will enjoy this one! 🥰

“Not sure how active I will be for this Azem April but I will try lol. Anyway, meet Theia! He/Them. A Seer, a Parent, and the Convocation’s headache.”

Day 2: Eros

“Despite having a partner, Theia still pines for Hades. His wife, Hyperion, doesn’t mind it and is working with Hythlodaeus to get ‘both’ hades and Theia to admit their feelings. 

Day 3: Downtime

“Theia likes to spend time with family, which includes Hermes who is related to his wife, Hyperion (a cousin). He and his family drop by often to the point Hermes is used to their shenanigans. He would invite Themis, but time isn't always on their side.”

Day 4: Duty

“When Theia is on call, they take their duties very seriously. To the point where it can be called excessive.”

Day 5: Storge

“The reason why Theia creates tiny and 'out of the way' concepts. It is a concept that Theia created when he was young and had made to grow and sustain on aether. He hadn't realized to make it 'stop' growing however until it grew too large and it didn't help that it was aggressive towards everyone except Theia. Much to his grief, it was decided to be kept in Pandæmonium, where it could be watched and surveyed. Being a former traveling companion, Theia visits it on occasion. It greets them gleefully each time.”

“Kept researching it but all I could find is a fusion of essence between Ancient and a beast so I thought "why not Theia's concept from the previous post fuse?" so here we are! The arms represents Theia's refusal to let it go.”

“Decided to draw Theia with their first concept (which is from Day 6 and 7). Plus wanted to draw baby Theia lol. It became their traveling companion before they took the seat of Azem and Theia can see what it sees through his left eye.”

Storge 1 - Did your OC's parents love them unconditionally? If so then has this helped them feel confident as an adult? If not then how has this affected them? What were the conditions their family attached to their relationship?

Tishlia's parents loved her unconditionally. But they also placed great responsibility in her hands. Her mother tried to prepare her daughter for the responsibility of ruling a kingdom better than she had been prepared for her own coronation. That Tihslia never had her mother's ambition to achieve greater things, she had not considered.

The two were like fire and ice in Tihslia's late teens. Tristian on the one hand and Midnight on the other always managed to calm down the heated tempers and so it always came to a reconciliation after a dispute. In between these fights, their relationship was always loving and friendly.

Tishlia's relationship with her mother improved considerably as she grew up. Especially right before her wedding to Daeran, when they talked a long time and a lot of problems and secrets were solved.

Pragma 2 - What is the biggest challenge that your OC has had to overcome in a long-term relationship or friendship? What helped them get through this?

The biggest blow to a friendship was the day Midnight disappeared after an argument with Jax and didn't return for almost a year. She was still in touch with him, but the fact that he didn't want to see her either and wouldn't tell her where he was was a hard test for her and hurt her more than she admitted.

The first 12 years of their relationship were not very challenging for Tisha and Dae. When they weren't providing for their own amusement, there were enough outside problems to deal with that they sometimes wished for a little boredom. After that time, they ascended. All the more they turned to each other and deepened their relationship. It was many years later that the question sometimes arose as to whether their relationship would still be able to develop after so many years, or whether it might come to a dead end at some point. This was an unbearable and frightening thought for both of them. But it would come to pass that someone else would answer that question for them, and a dead end was never in sight.

Hmm...I might've talked about this before, but I had a concept of Alex Russo (from Wizards of Waverly Place) coming to live with the LaRussos and getting pulled into their karate drama. Oh wow I haven't talked about her in a while!

For those unfamiliar, Teconia is from a (very old) WIP of mine called Firesoul!

Storge 3: Does your OC have any siblings? If so then did their parents have a favourite growing up? Has their relationship with their sibling changed in adulthood? If they don’t have any siblings then do they perhaps feel they have missed out on an important relationship? Do they have any especially close friends who go some way towards filling that role?

Yes! Teconia has a little sister, Seraph. Because their mother was ill and their father dead, Teconia became sort of a surrogate mother. The age gap between them is large enough that this wasn't a difficult role to fill, but it was still undoubtedly hard for her. Teconia cared for her entire remaining family after her father died, almost before she had a chance to grieve him. She would never resent her mother for being sick or Seraph for existing, but there's a part of her that is angry that this is what her life became. And it wouldn't have been that way at all if her father never got shipped off to war.

Philautia 1: Does your OC have a healthy sense of their own worth and value? Or do they see themselves as failing to live up to their original potential? Perhaps they are convinced of their own sinful or inadequate nature?

Teconia is in an interesting position. She's proud of herself for taking care of her family, but also is painfully aware that all of her hard work could come crumbling down at any moment. Because she's a mage, hiding her power is essential if she wants to keep taking care of her family, or be branded as a dangerous criminal and get ground into her country's war machine. It's hard not to feel guilty for that. It's hard not to believe it isn't her fault.

15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?

'a storge for you' will always be my baby. i know it's been almost a year since i updated (yeesh man) but i loved that au with all my heart. still do! it's so much fun to write for and, honestly, the only reason i haven't updated in forever is because it's at that point where we get to some complicated and depressing stuff. which. is difficult to write about lol- asfy is my favorite for all the right and wrong reasons at this point. it's one of the few multi-chaptered fics i have published that have long form story-telling chapters, so i have total free reign to do whatever i want and talk as much as i want and describe as much as i want for an indefinite number of pages. fun fact, none of the published chapters are shorter than 20 pages. 20 pages and around 9k words per chapter (there is like, one chapter that's an outlier tho lol)

40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

oh boy, it really depends. i do have some fics i like to go back to just for certain scenes but mostly, i'll read it and if i really like the fic, i'll bookmark it. now, when it comes to my own fics, gosh do i re-read the heck out of them- i'm always checking for errors (which i always find no matter how many times i've checked) and look for ways to improve. i've thought a lot about removing some of my older fics just because i don't like them, but i keep em up for those that still do <3

augh, a lot. one i got a fever over bc i was so invested in it so i'll share a few lines from that- it's a wip about the whole eldest daughter thing going on with one dick grayson (totally not projecting or anything, psh, what? no never)

Damian is taller now. He shot up like a weed and is barely below Dick’s shoulder, and with Bruce on his knees, Damian is a head taller than his father. Still, Bruce makes eye contact with his son and Damian meets it. It’s like that for a moment, Bruce just calmly searching his son’s face, hands gentle and huge. 

“I think it’s important,” he says seriously. “Right now, seeing your art exhibit is the most important thing to me.” Bruce pauses, momentarily breaking eye contact to glance back down at the torn ticket he kneels in. “I would like to go and see it. But if you don’t want any of us to, then we won’t. I would like to though.”

Storge – Unconditional, Familial Love.

1- Did your OC’s parents love them unconditionally? If so then has this helped them feel confident as an adult? If not then how has this affected them? What were the conditions their family attached to their relationship?

It is hard to answer this because we haven't met the dad yet and we also know mom and dad weren't around. I think, from the bit we got, the answer MIGHT be more yes than MC thinks but -- IDK. So partial response.

Team Angry: Ori, Hiyam

Ori: I think Ori has no belief that his parents love him unconditionally. He supposes they do love him but it is very much that qoute: If you love me, Henry, you don't love me in a way I understand. It definitely adds to, if it is not the root of, his insecurities / low self-esteem. And it is definitely the root of his anger and frustration -- and Ori isn't typically one to get ANGRY [BUT he can become highly frustrated, and even feel defeated at times]. It isn't as bad as it could have been because I gave him parents. And he had Seven. For a time he never doubted that SHE loved him sans conditions.

Hiyam: Hiyam actually was, as well, rather unaffected beause she had Seven. I think it seeped into her but she never made time/had the time to really process her parents love - conditions or sans - because 1) they were off making [her] money 2) because, of course, they had expectations of her -- they had white collar jobs and she is their daughter; in her mind it helped push her 3) to a point it became a weird mix of the distance suiting her nature while it was all she knows. 4) She had Seven. Like around the age that even Hiyam couldn't explain away her parents absence, Seven came in like a wrecking ball -- and brought Lucy with her. They fed any empitness she might have -- and Seven came in like a wrecking ball that she was totes too bamboozled to notice anything else. It is not until the shine of Seven disappeared, Hiyam started noticing the cracks in her life. So idk, it did affect her but not in anyway she noticed/is willing to notice [tho it is hard not to recall the lack of support when faced with the Hollands]

Team Indifferent: BJ, Alana, Lala [of sorts]

BJ: It didn't affect him yet it kind of did. I don't think - like Hiyam - BJ weighed too much "do mom and dad love me?" because he had -- duties to fill, one could say. He was busy focused on fulfilling expectations and I think there was the belief if he was a "good kid", they wouldn't be disappointed. Eventually he came not to care. I think he realized - or felt - they didn't love him unconditionally but it was THEIR problem. It is like "Your behavior toward me is not my responsibility. How I react, is" Does it hurt? Yes, at times. But he’s not going to let that control his life.

Alana: I think it led Alana to be disappointed and more eager for their approval than she might want to be -- which probably translated to her bad luck with romance. But eventually, she's kind of tired and brittle regarding the question. She has kind of given up [kind of because she is still disappoonted,amd maybe still hoping for their approval].

Lala: I think Lala is the only one who has learned to meet their parents where they are. Who is WILLING to do so. I don't know if they've made PEACE but its a wip.

2- Does your OC have children? If so then how fiercely do they love them? If they have more than one then do they love them all equally? If they do not have children then is this part of their future plans?

As for friend who fills that role: For Lala and Ori - more so for Lala - it is Seven. In their eyes he is their little brother. For Ori the band is family but there is no specific label to it -- tho if one pressed, then yeah. Hiyam: Not really? But also Rowan? For Alana and BJ -- I don't think so ... they do consider the band family, but in Ori's mind they're Lilo and Stitching it -- it is another level with/for him. For him with Seven, Seven is LIKE a sister -- she is his twin flame.

5 - Is your OC able to love without necessarily needing or expecting reciprocation or reward? Or are all their relationships to some extent transactional? Have they ever loved another person unconditionally, whether a child or another adult?

Alana: I almost was like duh, ofc the princess of love can love unconditionally -- then it hit ... Alana thinks she does. And she CAN. But so much of her dynamics have been transactional - outside if the band and Seven - and with her parents being as they are, there is definitely the belief that she needs to give something in order to get love back. But I think there is also the idea of when she does give and give, love should [or some mimicry] should be handed over. It isn't as egotistical as it sounds but I think it has led to a bit of selfishness as she finds her way out of what toxicity has burdened upon her shoulders. I think there is a lot of selfishness and expectation - at first - in her newly realized romantic love of Seven. The thought if she behaves well and pushes well, things will be solved.

So, no.

BJ: Sort of. I don't think he needs reciprocation but I do think he feels if he gives love he should be merited with others "good behavior" --- ahhh, okay now I see the parental issues 234trrte oh BJ. He did love Seven unconditionally -- I think. Now I am wondering.

Hiyam: Love is DEFFO transactional. LOL. The only [sort of] exceptions are Rowan and the band. And Orion. [Though she doesnt realize that yet.]

Lala: Love is not transactional. And yes they have.

Ori: He is sorta similar to BJ and Alana, yet not -- I think HE believes he must act a certain way, but he doesnt really expect love from it. Just being tolerated. Hence there no sight of reciprocation. He wants you to accept his existence, but he shall love you anway.

(Get ready for some rambling, as always... hahaha!)

Eros – Romantic, Passionate Love. 3. How do they feel about public displays of romantic affection? Does it make them uncomfortable? How do they feel if a romantic partner kisses them in public?

This shows no discretion between characters, be it Kuja or another potential partner from another time or story. Sal simply isn't much of a PDA gal. She's private and dare I say a little shy there!

She might warm up to some aspects of it, depending on the partner and how they feel about it, though. As for kisses, it would really depend on the kiss... the cute and simple kisses, I could see her warming up to with time. Passionate ones? No way, Jose.

However, if she has been warmed up to some PDA, I'll admit... sometimes, she's mindful about the tension that can create and can be a little playful with it. It's subtle, as many things often are with Sal, but the nuance is there. Haha!

Philia – Affectionate, Platonic Love. 1. Does your OC have a Best Friend? If they do then how long have they known each other and how did they meet? If they don't then do they have a close group of friends they love equally? Or are they more of a loner?

Technically, there are three, but she maintains contact with only two nowadays. Tsuniah and Nat.

At the top of that list is: Tsuniah. A best friend of MANY years... at least 50+ years! (They're both Ethereals. They have the time. Hahaha!) I believe Sal and Tsuniah met at the bar he works at, one day. I'll preface this by saying Tsuniah, being buddies with Shiloh and having learned that the guy had a dearly beloved friend (Sal) from many years ago that he also seemed to have some feelings for, wishing to find her again, had his best interest in mind, in that regard. BUT... when Tsuniah first met Sal, names weren't the first things exchanged, so, naturally, Tsun got his flirt on for the pretty lady. He was then given her name one way or another, however, and was just like "oh... hey, about that!" 😆 Sharing Shiloh as a friend, they eventually grew to be buddies as well. And they've been buddies ever since then; growing even closer after Shiloh's disappearance.

Nat is a more recent one - I'm not entirely sure how recent at this time, but definitely newer! It isn't until the fourth/last story of the series that Sal and Nat meet. They may or may not have actually met through some lingering Aexena (Sal's past agency) affairs as well. That bit of story material is very much still a WIP at this time.

Shiloh is the one in which contact was lost (as was hinted at above.) However, he was the first friend Sal ever had - a childhood friend - who... well, she eventually shared more than just a friendship with many years later (as was also hinted at above, haha!) First friend, first love. 💙

Nice. Saddest question, here we go…! 🫠

She did. An older brother named Kenneth - Ken, for short. They had a number of years between them, so Ken always came off as the more mature older brother who helped to look after her along with their adoptive mother, Shyra. Shyra gave as much of her love as she could to both of them, really. However, Ken was pretty much the sole recipient of their biological parents' love because... well, they actually had the chance to love him. Directly, anyway. They loved Sal too, but...

Sal's mother died while in labor (complications of a human carrying an Ethereal child) and her father - while he did have the chance to see her on occasion - went MIA (suspected governmental affairs, tied to Etherealism as well.) Sal's memories of her father are foggy, at best. Among her possessions are recordings of his lectures on astronomy as well as "his" ring - the Wayfarer's Ring - that she uses to traverse the Spiral. There are also sheets of music that her mother used to play. She still wonders what it could have been like to meet her.

This isn't actually a part of these series of questions, but I feel it apt to note that Sal's musicality carries partly as a promise to her mother (and adoptive mother) and the love for astronomy carries partly as a promise to her father (as well as her brother, who had hoped to pursue a similar study.)

As far as having friends who may, in a way, fill in for some familial roles, there is Amthyr. He was the head of Sal's group in Aexena and the same gentleman who introduced her to the agency (he's mentioned in her bio as well.) He also taught her how to best utilize and control her Etherealism. Though he and her father do not favor - he's more of a stoic and stern character - he gives off a paternal vibe, particularly towards her later in time.

Agape – Selfless, Universal Love. 2. Does your OC feel a spiritual connection to the world around them? Do they have a particular love for nature or living things?

In a way, yes. Very technically speaking, it's an Ethereal thing in general, however! Being that Ethereals are - to keep it simpler - very ghost-like, they're all about those frequencies and energies. They're conduits of fire, electricity and all that. If it produces light, heat or radiation, it's very likely they can consume and produce something similar from it. All of that being said...

It's very easy to feel like one is in tune with the waves and beats around them as an Ethereal. Or at least, as a "charged" Ethereal a.k.a an Ethereal with "active" Etherealism. I've mentioned this before with Sal - she pretty much stays on "low battery" to coexist with other corporeal entities. Think of it like... a vampire who refuses to feed, only it doesn't kill them, it just leaves them feeling weak and... well, with something pretty darn close to the human experience.

The whole Ethereal shtick aside, though, Sal as a person does have a love for the universe and all the interesting forms of life and nature it has to offer. I'd like to think it's part of the astronomy-loving, cosmic wayfaring thing she has going on; to be so fascinated by the cosmos is to be fascinated by many of the innumerable things it contains.

Ludus – Playful, Flirtatious Love. 4. Who was your OC's first crush? How do they feel about it now?

🥴 I accidentally already answered this just previously, but... Shiloh. Absolutely Shiloh.

I never talk about him (as I've been revamping his design a bit) but his presence is hinted at in her bio. He was her first childhood friend who was also close friends with Tsuniah! In fact, Tsuniah and Sal may have never met one another had it not been for Shiloh.

His presence is still significant to a point it affects Sal to this day. All these years that have passed… both she and Tsuniah have done their best to let him go, but Sal has struggled far more with it. She considers herself at relative peace with things nowadays, but... she still keeps an eye out for him to this day.

I even have some old (2017) art of the two as kids. 🥹💙

Pragma – Committed, Long-Lasting Love. 5. What importance or value does your OC attach to marriage? Do they believe that it is important to make a public statement of commitment to another person (or persons)? Or are they more concerned about inheritance rights and security for their family? Or do they not see marriage as a necessary signifier of commitment and loyalty?

Marriage isn't necessary to express loyalty or commitment, in her opinion. It's a great big "world" out there... one where marriage doesn't always exist, but forms of love and loyalty still do. In the same respect, marriage can exist without love and loyalty too.

Essentially, "marriage" isn't the first word that comes to her mind when given the words "loyalty" or "commitment." It's merely a possible word among many in this vast universe. 🌌

Philautia – Self Love. 1. Does your OC have a healthy sense of their own worth and value? Or do they see themselves as failing to live up to their original potential? Perhaps they are convinced of their own sinful or inadequate nature?

Yes and no. The whole having a past with family members who loved her, yet died because of her and some similarly-thematic echoes that seem to follow her into future years leave her with mixed feelings about herself.

On the good days, it gives her purpose - to live for those who loved her so dearly to the point they wished for her to live, and to live for those who care about her presently. She also has Chaku to care for (even though Tsun helps her look after him.) On the bad days, her being the reason those aforementioned family and friends are no longer alive on top of the nature of Etherealism continuing to bring that pattern to fruition when left unchecked makes her feel guilty for existing.

And despite her and all of her supernatural power - and how capable she can be when it comes to playing hero - she is still made to feel inadequate from not being able to save those who were lost to this inadequacy. "Shadows of the past" that she carries, whose weight can often be carried, but have their hours in which they become too heavy. It's needless to be said, but these "shadows of the past" lend themselves to the making of the notoriously bittersweet creature that Sal is today.

Hello! You might be interested in my WIPs. Storge is a standalone high fantasy, and a prequel to the following Laoche Chronicles. I like to think that the worldbuilding is unique - the magic system is (loosely) based on quantum physics, and there are several religions and nations at play. There's a background romance in the series, and none in Storge itself.

Runaways is a standalone portal fantasy with a soft magic system, and a folklore retelling about changelings, the Seelie/Unseelie courts, and a sister's devotion. It's more of a dark middle grade because the protagonists are young, but there's no romance in this one either. It has a few spinoff short stories featuring the background cast.
