What would a Farold’s menu be like, out of pure curiosity and for no other reasons?
What a good question :3
Farold's is foremost a tea house. They specialize in Valynian and Durlynian black teas, with over two dozen to choose from. The cheapest are very affordable, like the house Rose, while Valynian Rough Crystal costs a labourer's daily salary for a single serving, and is kept under lock and key.
Aldish tea is served with copious milk - goat or swine - and usually with additional additives, like honey, butter, pepper, frost sap, spirits, or salt foam.
In addition to tea, there's ice wine, cordials, and fine liqueurs, and a dessert case and small bakery. You can purchase tarts and cake by the slice, biscotti for dipping, savoury pirozhki or sausage rolls, or sweet scones with jam, cream, or butter, bags of candy, frosted biscuits, or just a piece of nice toast and green spread. There are a lot of treats that are only seasonal, or that depend on how Mrs Farold was feeling in the kitchen the night before.
You can also buy the more popular purple weed brands, and a few other necessities like certain medicines and tonics. There have been times when the Soud ghers are embargoed, and other businesses refuse to sell to them. The Farolds remember this, and always expect it to happen again.
Mr Farold will let trusted customers bring in meals from one of the street vendors or takeaway spots on the block, but you do need to buy a glass of tea to go with it, or he will scowl at the back of your head.

Lilac in Magic and Medicine
Spring tends to be a favorite time of year for a lot of people. You walk out the front door and the birds are chirping, the weather is nice and there are flowers everywhere! As a Garden/Green Witch, I love plants and finding out ways to use them. One of my favorite plants, even though they are only around for a short amount of time, are the Lilacs. We have several Lilacs on our property that were planted by my great grandparents that still bloom every year. Lilacs are edible, have some medicinal uses and of course, contain magical properties as well. Keep reading to learn more!
Lilacs in the Garden
Lilacs, or Syringa Vulgaris, are a short term blooming shrub. It’s most commonly found in Planting Zones 3-9 here in the U.S. Most lilacs only bloom for about 2-3 weeks; but early and late blooming varieties can be staggered to increase your bloom time to a total of 6 weeks. Lilacs are available in 5 colors ranging from white, to magenta, to the traditional lilac purple.
Lilacs grow on old wood, so pruning after the spring is vital. A hardy specimen, lilacs can be transplanted by cuttings very easily to add more to your garden. Our lilacs draw bees, birds and butterflies with it’s tantalizing scent so we always try to keep them blooming.
Did you know Lilacs are actually part of the olive family? Native to the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe; people emigrating from Europe brought the shrub with them to grow and preserve a piece of home. Western pioneers brought lilacs with them during the 1800’s. Now you can find lilacs that grow nearly wild in abandoned lots or parks. Lilacs prefer full sun and a slightly alkaline soil to grow and bloom. The wood is a sturdy type that can be hollowed out to make a variety of tools.
These shrubs are a beautiful plant and even though they have a very short season; their vibrant green grey leaves(which are heart shaped) and the clusters of fragrant flowers make it worth having. But a commonly asked question every Spring is; “What can I do with my lilacs in that short amount of time?” Turns out there are a couple of medical, edible and magical uses for lilacs. I’m going to touch on the edible and medical real quick. Then give you some ideas of how to use lilacs in your magic as well!
Lilacs as Food and Medicine.
One thing I’ve started to learn as a witch, herbalist and homesteader is that there’s a use for practically every plant! We harvest at least a dozen or more plants from our yard every Spring and Summer; not counting what we add to the gardens, harvest from the forest or buy online!
Starting out, I was surprised how many other uses most flowers can have, besides just being pretty to look at. Given the short bloom time for Lilacs, I never really thought about using them until this year. But it turns out that 2 weeks is plenty of time to gather and dry flowers for all sorts of projects!
Lilacs in the Apothecary Cabinet
Lilacs are astringent, aromatic and a bit bitter. While most of the medicinal uses stem(see what I did there, ha) from the leaves and fruit, the flowers still have their own uses. Ingesting raw flowers leaves a dry feeling on the tongue but are bursting with flavor.
The most common use of Lilacs is as an astringent. Many common weeds and plants are astringent, including but not limited to: sunflowers, black walnut, black raspberry and stag-horn sumac. Many people are already familiar with the commercially produced astringent known as witch hazel.
Lilac flowers can infused with witch hazel or a carrier oil. That can then be used for acne, fine lines and wrinkles and other anti-aging properties
Using lilacs as an aromatic is completely different. An aromatic works by causing irritation to the place where it is applied. (Think about how sensitive the GI tract is.) Which in turn brings more blood flow and thus promotes faster healing! Gastric issues such as excessive flatulence or constipation are normally remedied very quickly by eating just a few small flowers.
Infuse lilacs in your favourite carrier oils to make salves, soaps and lotions. Lilacs are good for sunburn relief or soothing scratches, light burns and itches. As well as the previously mentioned astringent properties.
Other Uses for Lilacs
As beautiful and lovely as lilacs are, the fragrance is a fleeting memory once spring is over. Unfortunately, there’s no way to preserve the fragrance in an essential oil. Like many florals, it would take a lot of flowers and would be very expensive. There are some ways to preserve the flavor and aroma through absolutes, enfleurage and infused oils. The Experimental Homesteader has a great tutorial and more info about making your own lilac essences.Find that Here
Most commonly, lilacs are used for garnishes and flavoring for foods and drink. From sugared flowers on cake to lilac ice-cream and lemonade; there’s a number of sweet treats you can make with these cute purple flowers.
Some of my Favourite Uses for Lilac include:
Tea
Lemonade
Infused Honey
Wine
Jelly
Ice cream
Syrup
There’s a ton of tutorials for each of these on Pinterest!
If you would like to try the lilac jelly recipe its super easy! Head over to our Forsythia Jelly Recipe but switch out the flowers for lilacs instead!( Find that here)
Lilac honey is super easy, just add the flowers to honey and let sit for 2-6 weeks.
Make a simple lilac syrup by simmering the flowers in a sugar water mix on the stove. Use that syrup to flavor your lemonade or top your favorite dessert(or pancakes!) Plus it’s a gorgeous light purple color so it makes for a great gift.
Lilacs in Magic: Green Witchcraft
Using Lilacs in magic has a slew of myths and stories behind it; as well as a few ways to use it in your own personal spells.
What’s in a Name?
Lilacs have a few names depending on the area and connections. In Arabic, “Lilak” means purple. In Greece, Lebanon and Cyrus, lilacs are referred to as “paschalia” due to the fact that they bloom around Easter. (Or as they call it “Pascha”.)
Actually, the scientific name for Lilacs(syringas vulgaris) is thought to be derived from the Greek word “Syrinx” which means pipes. This is due to the wood’s hollow nature. Which brings me to the next section of Lilacs in magic: the Greek origin story.
The Legend of Syrinx
According to Greek Legend, Syrinx was a dryad (also known as tree nymph) who was a follower of Artemis, goddess of nature and chastity. Pan, as god of the forest and ruled by an bestial nature and lust, sought after her beauty. As a follower of Artemis, Syrinx was sworn to chastity and denied him. He chased her to the nearby river where Syrinx sought help from her cousins, the naiads, or river nymphs. With their help, she transformed into a Lilac bush, also commonly called a pipe tree or reed tree. Pan, frustrated that Syrinx had slipped from his grasp; cut 7 branches from the gorgeous lilac tree and tied them together into what we know as pan pipes today.
The Pipes, combined with Pan’s mournful music over his lost pursuit, holds merit in the language of flowers. These purple petaled flowers symbolize lust, love, and the fleetingness of life in general.
Lilacs Magical Properties
Blooming Lilacs show up for a short period during the Spring, typically between Beltane and Litha. (May-June). Much like honeysuckle, dandelions and forsythia, lilac contains spring energy and helps to jump start your life. Use it to give yourself a motivational boost, a mental or physical spring cleaning. Or use as an energy charge for your job or a new business venture.
Lilacs are commonly used for spells involving: exorcisms, banishing negative energy, love and lust spells. As well as protection spells and spells symbolizing the balance between life and death.
Lilac for Protection
Plant lilacs around your property to protect those inside its boundaries. Planting lilacs by your front door keeps negative energy from entering your home.
Bringing cuttings into your home is supposed to help banish negative energy and spirits. Except for some superstitions in certain parts of the UK. It was felt that white lilacs were too close to death and were very unlucky.(Unless it was a 5 petaled white flower which were considered extra lucky.) Lilacs were commonly placed inside coffins to cover the smell of death, much like gladiolas and other “funeral flowers”.
Hanging lilac branches over a newborn’s crib was said to encourage them in growth of knowledge and wisdom.(Especially in Russia)
Lilacs for Love and Beauty
When used in love and lust spells, lilacs are best for short fleeting summer romances or flings. Adding lilac oil to your wrists and behind the ears helps to draw love your way. You can also use lilacs for a spell to bring the fun and light back into a relationship.
To combine the medicinal uses mentioned earlier as well as the magical uses; Lilacs infused in witch hazel for a facial toner can be used to promote beauty, glamour and attracting love.
Celebrate Beltane by making a flower crown for yourself or your love.
Lilac Wood and Flowers
Wrap and dry lilac bundles to make your own incense smoke bundles. Combine with rose, lavender and sage for a love incense. Find out more info on wrapping and drying at Proflowers.
Use the wood from the Lilac to make wands, staves or runes. Lilac wands are good for banishing evil or negativity, raising psychic energy and vibrations, and attracting love.
Lilac Trivia
Lilacs are part of the Olive family. The Oleaceae or Olive family also includes olives(obviously), jasmine, forsythias and ash trees.
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson enjoyed the scent of Lilacs and planted them in their Gardens.
Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet were inspired by the colors and appearance of lilacs. They included the flowers in several paintings such as “Lilac Bush” (1889 Van Gogh), “Lilacs, Grey Weather”(1872 Monet) and “Lilacs in Sun”(1872 Monet).
In the Victorian Era, widows wore lilac blossoms on their lapel. This served as a reminder of their love and the shortness of life.
Lilac is considered the traditional flower for the 8th Anniversary. This means it is a suitable gift as well.
The Celtics regarded the lilac as “magical” due to their incredibly intoxicating fragrance.
In the United States, the lilac is the official state flower of New Hampshire. It represents the ‘hardy’ nature of its people

Total Misunderstanding Part #1:
____________________________
Disclaimer: I OWN NOTHING!!! Esteban, Shuriki, Armando and Fiero belong to Disney.

____________________________
Esteban wasn't prone to sleeping late. He'd been an early riser all his life, but he'd spent the night entertaining the queen, and had indulged in one too many glasses of wine.
I should've stopped at three...
But Shuriki had been in such high spirits and invitations to her bed were rare these days. Esteban had begun to believe Shuriki was losing interest in him altogether. The previous evening had assured him she still desired his touch.
Esteban groaned. His head kept throbbing like a pulse as he tried to go back to sleep and not think about the day ahead.
Dame Elizaveta Kapeka of the Northern Islands was going to arrive later that afternoon and that was troublesome. Shuriki always viewed other women as competition. Esteban should've been worried, but all he could think about was the noise their constant bickering would make.
I'm starting to sound like Shuriki.
Shuriki was probably still in bed sleeping off her hangover. He sat up slowly so as not to irritate his already nervous stomach.
Had he even eaten anything? He couldn't remember. Esteban was debating on whether they should just forego their meetings for the day when his bedroom door flew open startling him so bad that he fell off the bed. When he opened his eyes, Armando was standing over him, his expression that of a man on the verge of panic.
"Dame Elizaveta Kapeka is here!"
Of course she is...
Esteban hauled himself up off the floor. "Where is the queen?"
"Sleeping," Armando answered sheepishly.
Esteban gave the steward a half-hearted scowl then snatched his coat off the back of a chair as he headed for the queen's personal chambers. He managed to make it halfway down the hall before pausing to retch in a gilded vase.
Apparently he'd eaten something after all. Carrots, or corn maybe? Esteban didn't really care and he wasn't going to stick around to find out.
The drapes were closed and the previous night's candles burned down to the wick when Esteban stepped into Shuriki's bedroom. He nearly tripped over a pile of clothing before pulling back the curtains on the massive canopy bed.
"Your Grace?
Shuriki groaned.
"Elizaveta Esfir Kapeka of the Northern Islands has arrived."
"Who?" Shuriki asked her voice muffled by the blanket covering her head.
Esteban could tell she was still half asleep elsewise she would have launched into a tirade.
"Elizaveta? Older lady, silver hair pulled back in a braided bun? Green eyes? Any of this ring a bell?"
Shuriki pulled down the blanket to scowl at him. "Seriously, Estéban? We've met a plethora of women that could fit that description."
The chancellor sighed. "La Monstrua de Ojos Verdes."
The Green Eyed Monster.
Shuriki had thought she was being clever when she had given Elizaveta the cruel nickname. He wasn't about tell the queen most of the palace staff called her that when she wasn't within earshot.
Shuriki scowled. "Ugh, not her."
The last time Kapeka had come to Avalor to talk trade, she and Shuriki had almost killed each other due to an argument over negotiations. Shuriki refused to say why she detested the other sorceress so much, but she and Elizaveta were always vying for dominance any time they had to interact with one another.
Shuriki wanted nothing to do with it. "Leave me here to die."
Esteban huffed. "It's customary in Avalor for the ruling monarch to greet visiting dignitaries."
Shuriki buried her head under a pillow. "I really don't care about proper decorum."
Esteban folded his arms and began to tap his foot impatiently as he tried to figure out a way to rouse her. Then it hit him like a runaway carriage. "Well, if you aren't feeling up to it..."
"-Oh, thank Maru-"
"I'm sure Doña Paloma wouldn't mind helping with the dame."
"That money hungry hussy?!" Shuriki grabbed his cravat and yanked him towards her. "Estéban, I told you to stay away from her!"
"Mamá...? Papá...?"
Esteban and Shuriki both turned to see their seven year old twins, Aléjandro and Llorona, hovering in the doorway.
"Oh, my little darlings..." Shuriki cooed.
She released Esteban and held out her arms to the pajama clad children. "Come here..."
Esteban knelt to steal a hug from the little ones before helping them up onto the bed.
"Why are you fighting? Did Papá do something wrong?" Alé asked.
"We weren't fighting, were we, Estéban?"
Esteban shook his head. He couldn't help smiling when their children were around. "No, just having a discussion, that's all."
"About what?" Alé asked.
"Oh, nothing important," Shuriki answered, giving Esteban a warning glare to drop the subject. She smiled softly at the twins. "What are you two doing out of bed so early, hmm?"
"I don't feel good," Aléjandro replied.
Shuriki frowned. "You don't? What's wrong?"
"My nose is stuffy and I keep coughing. It makes my throat hurt, Mamá."
"My poor, sweet boy..." Shuriki pressed a hand to his forehead. "You're running a fever. Estéban, cancel everything that's on my agenda for today. If Elizaveta throws a fit about rescheduling, tell her to go eat sand. And have breakfast brought up. The children need to eat, especially Alé or his illness will worsen."
Shuriki was adamant about not using vulgar language in front of the children. She would've been spewing obscenities at Elizaveta by now if not for them. "Yes, querida."
"Can we have ice cream for breakfast?" Aléjandro asked, giving her the cutest look he could muster.
Shuriki quirked an eyebrow feigning displeasure, but her facade cracked, and she gave him a smile. "Oh, alright. The cold treat will help with your sore throat, but you'll have to finish the real food first. Only then can you have the ice cream."
Aléjandro nodded and smiled. "Si, Mamá. Gracias!"
Shuriki chuckled. "You're very welcome."
What she didn't tell the child was that she'd be lacing his treat with a medicinal potion to combat his illness. Shuriki had learned early on that the best way to convince a child to take medication was to hide it in their favorite desserts and not tell them it was in there elsewise they wouldn't eat it and she'd have to force it down their throat which was something she didn't enjoy doing.
Esteban knew it was probably a bad idea to make Elizaveta wait, especially given they intended to reschedule, but his son was sick, and he felt like it had been ages since he'd enjoyed a warm meal with his lover and their children.
Esteban even made breakfast. He cooked them guava-cheese empanadas and pão de queijo with atole and avena because they'd do less damage to Alé's sore throat when he ate them. He prayed the fruit he'd put in the oatmeal would strengthen the boy's immune system and speed up his recovery. He also prepared some green tea with honey and lemon in the hopes that it would keep Shuriki safe from the illness while she was caring for their son.
Shuriki was waiting for him when he brought in the food. She'd retrieved four year old Esperanza from her crib so she too could enjoy eating with her parents and siblings.
Esteban blocked young Aléjandro's view of the ice cream bowls so that Shuriki could stir a vial of healing potion into the already half melted treat then feign resignation as she handed the child the bowl.
Aléjandro ate every bit without questioning his mother's motives. If he'd asked, Shuriki would've just fibbed and claimed she'd let him have the sweets first due to him giving her the puppy dog eyes. They couldn't risk him getting too full off the empanadas or the potion would upset his stomach.
The boy was half way through his second empanada when he began yawning and rubbing at his eyes. "Mamá...I'm tired..."
Shuriki bit her lip to suppress a triumphant smirk as she pulled him close and stroked his hair. "I know, child. Close your eyes. I'm here. No harm will come to you."
Alé tucked himself up against her side and buried his face in her shoulder. At first, she thought he'd fallen asleep, but then the boy lifted his head. "I can't sleep, Mamá. Sing for me, por favor?"
Shuriki groaned. She wasn't a fan of music or dancing due to having a problem with sensitivity to noise. She'd gone so far as to ban both from Avalor, but had allowed Esteban to keep a guitar. Shuriki had also let him teach the children how to dance. She'd even sung a lullaby or two back when they were infants in the hopes they'd fall asleep. She'd been in desperate need of rest herself, of course, elsewise Shuriki would've taken a dagger to the throat rather than be heard singing or seen dancing around even if it was for her children who were the only people she loved more than Esteban or herself.
"Why would you want that?" she asked. "My voice sounds terrible when I sing."
"But I like when you sing, Mamá."
She quirked an eyebrow. "You can't be serious."
"It helps me sleep and makes me feel better." He gave her another one of his puppy dog pouts. "Por favor, Mamá?"
Shuriki sighed. "Fine..."
The sorceress closed her eyes trying to gather her thoughts. The Northern islanders didn't have too many lullabies as music, dancing and art were all considered nonsensical frivolities. There was a song she did remember from back when she was a child. Her mother had sung it to her on the rare occasions when she was ill.
Now is the time for the wolves and thrushes, to sing to the moon from the forests and rushes.
Sleep, my love. Sleep my only dear, in the dark.
Fragile and magical shadows will suddenly start to appear, lovely and lyrical, a frightening miracle, within your ear.
Carefully raising their voices, in a chorus loud and gracefully clear,
Over and under, the multi-toned, wonder of dreams endear.
Why are they singing, calling, and braying all night long?
What are they trying so hard to convey with their haunting song?
Sometimes when somebody loves you, they say and do things you don't understand.
And there in the harsh truth lies the proof of a parent's love.
Aléjandro fell asleep midway through the song. Esteban sat and listened to Shuriki sing while she stroked their eldest child's hair.
He tended to forget just how hard her childhood had been. The Northern Islands was a dark, cold place with authoritarian laws and an intolerance for failure of any sort. It was a miracle that she'd survived what with the horrid weather and the unrealistic expectations heaped onto her by her parents, peers, and the royal family she'd once served.
Shuriki laid Alé down beside her and curled herself around him to cuddle and protect the child while he slept.
"Put Esperanza back in her crib, and make sure Llorona gets back to the nursery on your way out, would you, Estéban?"
Esteban nodded. "Si, mi amada."
"But I want to stay with you," Llorona pouted, "I don't want to go back to the nursery. There is no one there for me to play with."
"Nonsense. You've more than enough toys to play with," Shuriki said, "And the last thing I need is for you to catch whatever it is your brother has. Now run along..." Shuriki was only half listening or she would've realized it was the lack of playmates not the quantity or quality of toys upsetting her eldest daughter.
"But, Mamá-"
"I said no," Shuriki snapped.
Shuriki hadn't meant to be so harsh towards the girl, but the damage was done. Llorona recoiled at the sharpness in her tone before retreating over to Esteban who was putting Esperanza down for her midmorning nap. Shuriki wanted to tell Llorona to come back, that she was sorry for having lost her temper, but the girl had bypassed a preoccupied Esteban and already left the room before she had the chance.
Shuriki sighed. "Estéban, would you-"
"I'll check on her on my way back to my office," he promised, pressing a quick kiss to her temple. "You just focus on Esper and Alé right now and leave everything else to me."
"Thank you."
"You're muy welcome, mi corazón."
"I didn't mean to shout at her," Shuriki admitted. "I just...it's so frustrating at times..."
"I understand what you mean," he assured her. "Llorona is going to be fine."
"Are you sure?"
Esteban nodded. "She's always been a resilient child. Give her an hour or two and she'll have forgotten all about it."

Popular Fruits of Eri
Haldi- a long, narrow green fruit with three distinct sides, thin edible skin, and crisp yellow flesh, the fruit grows directly off the branch in a vaguely corkscrew shape, reaching lengths of 4 feet and weights of over 3lbs, and containing several large, flat black seeds, the trees are common in temperate regions and of little use for building, with short branches and soft, almost springy wood, but the thick leaves attain a pretty dark red color in the fall. Hundreds of flowers are produced each year, large and white with broad petals. The fruit comes in both sour and bitter varieties, the former of which is typically eaten fresh and the latter pickled
The leaves are also edible, with spring leaves having a light, fresh taste often eaten fresh, and dark fall leaves having an almost spicy bent. The latter are often dried in the sun and ground into a powder, which is used to season dishes
Crii- a small, glossy red berry with a thin edible skin, translucent red flesh, and tiny, edible seeds, grows in clusters, grows on a short (for Eri) shrub-like tree common in tropical regions, which produces thousands of small white flowers. The fruit is slightly tart, and eaten fresh or dried. Fresh fruit is often eaten as a dessert with honey
Eggfruit- an eggshaped yellow fruit (shocking I know) about three inches long with a thick, rough peel and firm white flesh housing three round black seeds, grows off a thick vine common in temperate and tropical rainforests, which produces lacey leaves and rings of ornate orange flowers. The flesh of the fruit is creamy, with a taste similar to a sweet custard. They don’t take well to drying or pickling and so are generally eaten fresh, sometimes with honey
The heart of the vines is mashed and combined with other ingredients to create a natural insect repellent
The leaves are a popular ingredient for necromancers, when dried and ground they can be added to potions to help ease muscular pain
Carit Bean- a large, fuzzy brown pod containing 10-13 fleshy pale segments, each of which holds a single large, angular seed, the trees on which they grow are tropical and subtropical, are popular colony trees, and produce fibrous leaves that can be used for weaving. Trees produce multi-colored, bell-shaped flowers with a strong vanilla-y scent. The flesh of the fruit isn’t particularly flavorful, but it takes on flavors well and as such is popular for pickling. The seeds aren’t normally eaten, but are edible when cooked and have a very savory, almost meaty taste
The husks are a common source of feed for several species of beetle
The name of the fruit comes from the name of the flower (the carit flower) which comes from the seemingly random shades they come in, which are similar to the seemingly random colors in which you get carits
Mildit- a large, angular fruit, purple with a thin, heavily dimpled rind and pale yellow flesh covering up to ten pale seeds, reaching up to a pound in weight and grown on thin-trunked, wide-crowned trees in temperate regions, which produce small, green flowers. The flesh of the fruit is very bitter, but healthy, and is commonly juiced and combined with either other juices or honey water to make it palatable. The rind, on the other hand, is very spicy, and often dried and ground to use as a spice
The bark of the tree is often sun-steeped and drunk as a tea or used as part of potions to bolster the immune system
Rime- a mid-sized, scaly yellow-green fruit with a thick, inedible skin, and bold pink flesh studded with small black seeds, grows in clusters from palm-like tropical and subtropical trees, which produce large purple catkins. The fruit is sweet with a hint of tartness, and a taste best compared to a strawberry. Is eaten both fresh and dried.
The catkins are also edible, and eaten fresh or pickled
Zeba Fruit- a small, ovular blue fruit with purple flesh and several small, edible seeds which grows in the canopies of tall trees native to temperate regions, these trees produce thousands of fragrant, densely-petaled blue flowers- with some varieties having up to six layers of petals. The fruits themselves have a very savory flavor and while they become very grainy when dried they’re popular fresh, salted, and pickled. It’s also common to grind fresh fruits with nuts, herbs, and spices to make a very flavorful dip, spread, or marinade.
The flowers are also edible, with a very strong herbal flavor, and often used to mask the taste of medicinal potions
Luat- a spiky, tubular yellow fruit with thin skin and white flesh encircling a core of disc-shaped seeds, which grows on trees in tropical regions which are often host to hives of foul-smelling insects and which produce orchid-like white flowers. The fruits are sweet and eaten fresh or dried, with the skin on or off, often with honey.
Young twigs of the tree are edible when prepared properly, namely by pounding with a heavy implement until the thin bark falls away. The taste is best compared to rosemary, and these twigs are often eaten to freshen the breath and aid in cleaning the teeth.
Bibim- a very heavily ribbed gourd in shades of red and purple, often striped, with a hollow, seed-filled center, thick skin, and soft yellow flesh which grows on a family of thick-trunked trees found across Eri. The flowers of these trees vary, with smaller, lighter colored flowers found towards the poles and boldy colored flowers that can be as wide as a Erinaen is tall towards the equator. Flowers come in shades of white, blue, purple, and green. The fruit has a nutty flavor and is most commonly served mashed with spices, honey, or both, though with the introduction of regular cooking they’ve become the popular cooked produce, mostly being roasted.
The flowers of the trees are edible, and plucking the petals from pollinated flowers to use as wraps is common in the tropics.
Gwendil- a large, round red fruit with a thick skin and firm white flesh filled with several inedible seeds, grows on trees in tropical and subtropical regions, produced by round yellow flowers with a red ring surrounding a brown center. The fruits are sweet and often juiced or dried. The most popular preparation for fresh eating is dipped in ground mildit rind.
Vinegar Fruit- a small round fruit- typically orange, red, or yellow- with a thick, smooth rind and dark, jelly-like flesh containing a single large brown seed, the trees are popular colony trees in temperate and subtropical areas and produce several thousands of tiny orange flowers per season, each of which produces a fruit. While very sweet, the fruit isn’t very easy to consume, with only the flesh being edible, but is commonly distilled into wine and then into a very strong, slightly sweet vinegar that is used for pickling
The rind can also be steeped in the sun to use as a dye, the color staying true to the rind. Ripe rinds produce a paler color, while dried rinds’ color is very rich
And to end on, the #1 most popular fruit on Eri, the
Easu- an ovular, bright yellow fruit, about 2 inches long, with a thin, edible skin, yellow flesh, and hundreds of tiny, edible seeds. Easu trees are semi-aquatic and only grow in subtropical, saltwater swamps, where their branches dip down into the water and their flowers grow beneath the surface, producing a ‘tasty’ gel with which they lure in small crab-like pollinators who carry the sticky gel containing their pollen from flower to flower. The fruits are salty and sweet, tasting something like a salted caramel mixed with a kiwi, only a few hundred are able to be harvested off each tree at the maximum, and they’re dangerous to harvest, making the Easu- while one of the most delicious of Eri’s fruits- also one of the most rare outside of it’s range. Luckily it’s since been able to be grown on several colony worlds, which has bolstered it’s availability.

oc aesthetic - seren
tagged on this one by @undyingembers, thank you!!
mostly under a readmore cause i was feeling poetic and found myself writing!
Bold for always Italics for sometimes
COLORS
red. brown. orange. yellow. green. blue. purple. pink. black. white. teal. silver. gold. grey. lilac. metallic. matte. royal blue. strawberry red. charcoal grey. forest green. apple red. navy blue. crimson. cream. mint green. cobalt blue.
the green of the forest and the blue of the sky are the colors they chose to adorn themselves with, colors they could drink in for as long as they could want to. but they are not the only colors that follow them. the earthy browns of their horns and their fur, the shiny wheat yellow of their hair, the vivid green that’s wrapped around their body and shines in their eyes all trail after them as well. and the twinkling blues and purples that surround them as they watch the night sky, dipping to cascade over their shoulders in a cape made of starlight. all of these are the colors that follow this watcher.
-
ELEMENTS
fire. ice. water. air. earth. rain. snow. wind. moon. stars. sun. heat. cold. steam. frost. lightning. sunlight. moonlight. dawn. dusk. twilight. midnight. sunrise. sunset. dewdrops. magic.
seren is a child, born of the earth, but knowing only the sea and the sky. they take joy in the rushing of waves underneath, the salty breeze through their hair, the feeling of sunlight on their skin, all of the colors that paint and dapple the sky when day turns to night. this is what they know, but when this adventure is over, they will find themself again in the sound of rustling leaves, the feeling of dirt under bare feet, the softness of lying in a clover patch. these are their elements, earth, sea, and sky.
-
BODY
claws. long fingers. fangs. wings. tails. lips. bare feet. freckles. bruises. scars. scratches. wounds. burns. spikes. feathers. webs. sweat. tears. feline. scales. fur. chubby. curvy. short. tall. average height. muscular. lean. piercings. tattoos. lithe.
they look so small, so unassuming at first glance, small horns, floppy ears, and freckle-flowers, wandering around the ship barefoot, smiling as easily as the sun shines. they are themself, of course, always, but even still it’s enough to give pause when they strip at the bathhouse, seeing the bruises and scrapes and scars of battle that decorate their skin, and the hints of lean muscle underneath. they are small, maybe, and sunny, but that does not negate how dangerous a foe they are.
-
WEAPONS
fists. sword. dagger. spear. arrow. hammer. shield. poison. venom. guns. axes. throwing axes. whips. knives. throwing knives. pepper sprays. tasers. machine guns. slingshots. katanas. maces. staffs. wands. powers. magical items. magic. rocks. pyre. teeth/fangs. rifles. words.
seren has known many weapons in their lifetime, wielded and suffered, but not all remembered. wands and rifles fit easily into their hands, and somehow the weight of a mace did too. really, though, all of those came second. they could do so much with a thought, crush, splinter, pierce. use peoples’ phantasmal insides to break their tangible outsides. it was... rather unnerving when anyone else thought about it for too long.
-
MATERIALS
gold. silver. platinum. titanium. diamonds. pearls. rubies. sapphires. emeralds. amethyst. metal. iron. rust. steel. glass. wood. porcelain. paper. wool. fur. lace. leather. silk. velvet. denim. linen. cotton. charcoal. clay. stone. asphalt. brick. marble. dust. glitter. blood. dirt. mud. smoke. ash. shadow. carbonate. rubber. synthetics.
seren’s mind makes itself out of wool and paper, out of iron and cloth and clay. it comes out in the weaving of wool, the scratching of lyrics on paper, the rush of breath through an ocarina. they collect rocks with their hands and dirt with their feet, and their days are segmented by iron weapons and cookware alike. the watcher is made up of many things, but most of all, themself.
-
NATURE + WEATHER
grass. leaves. trees. bark. roses. daisies. tulips. lavender. sunflowers. petals. thorns. seeds. hay. sand. rocks. roots. flowers. ocean. river. meadow. forest. desert. tundra. savanna. rainforest. caves. underwater. coral reef. beach. waves. space. clouds. mountains. poppies. galaxies. stardust. sky. rain. storm. sunny.
a child of the earth, a child of nature, they appreciate everything they can get from it. plants, trees and flowers and crops are petted as seren passes by. barefoot, they dig their toes into grass and dirt and sand alike, reveling in the texture. they lie on beaches and meadows, watching what the sky has to offer at any time of day.
-
ANIMALS + MYTHICAL CREATURES
lions. wolves. eagles. owls. falcons. hawks. swans. snakes. turtles + tortoises. bugs. spiders. doves. robins. ducks. vultures. whales. dolphins. fish. octopus. sharks. horses. cats. dogs. rabbits. hares. crows. ravens. mice. lizards. unicorns. pegasus. dragons. rats. livestock. tigers. panthers. deer. foxes. bats. bears. crocodiles + alligators. coyotes. seals + sea lions
seren knows of many animals, but only has experience with a few. they know stories of falcons and snakes and turtles and panthers, but does not remember learning them. caring for cats and rabbits and chickens is much the same, during the few occasions they help a local corral their livestock. the one that always makes them light up, though, their favorite, were bats. as dusk fell, they’d watch the diminutive shadows flitting from tree to tree, grinning and pointing them out to whoever was with them.
-
FOOD + DRINK
sugar. salt. bitter. candy. bubblegum. wine. champagne. hard liquor. beer. coffee. tea. soda. spices. herbs. apple. orange. lemon. cherry. strawberry. watermelon. vegetables. fruits. meat. fish. pies. desserts. chocolate. cream. caramel. berries. nuts. cinnamon. burgers. burritos. pizza. french fries.
fruits and meats and grains are their favorites, preferring savory and sweet. humming happily at the taste of honey glazed hen, sharing orange slices with whoever happened by on deck, flapping their hands at the spiciness of fire kelp but going back for more, crunching on candied nuts as they peruse the shops of queen’s berth. to them, food is very much a joy, and something to be shared.
-
HOBBIES
music. art. watercolors. gardening/growing plants. smithing. sculpting. painting. sketching. fighting. writing. composing. cooking. sewing. training. dancing. acting. singing. martial arts. self-defense. electronics. technology. cameras. video cameras. video games. computer. phone. movies. theater. libraries. books. comic books. magazines. cds. records. vinyls. cassettes. piano. violin. guitar. electric guitar. bass guitar. harmonica. harp. woodwinds. brass. bells. playing cards. poker chips. chess. dice. motorcycle riding. flight. climbing. running. swimming. healing/medicine.
they like everything surrounding music and the fiber arts, but there are other things, too. sparring with friends is something they enjoy, light fare to make days sailing more interesting. reading books, both fiction and non to pass the time in a gentler way, card games similarly when they want to spend that time with people. neither they nor their crew puts on theater, but in ports, seren loves stopping to watch, enjoying the story and the questionable acting skills in equal measure. being the herald of berath and the hound of eothas does not allow excessive room for hobbies, but they make time anyways.
-
STYLE
lingerie. armor. cape. dress. tunic. vest. shirt. sweater. boots. heels. leggings. trousers. jeans. skirt. jewelry. earrings. necklace. bracelet. ring. pendant. hat. crown. circlet. helmet. scarf. brocade. cloaks. corsets. doublet. chest plate. gorget. bracers. belt. sash. coat. jacket. duster. trenchcoat. hood. gloves. socks. masks. cowls. braces. watches. glasses. sunglasses. eye contacts. makeup. ties. uniform.
a brigandine and cape, forest green, sky blue, and white, are their battle armor, heavy but maneuverable. it is what they choose to wear for the necessity of it, but outside of battle it is not something they’d choose. they favor light shirts and tunics, open necklines and half sleeves, pants cut at the knee, secured with a sash that flutters after them when they run. an item cherished is their cape, the cape of the fallen star, that surrounds them in the beauty of the night sky and makes them a sight to remember on the few occasions they wear it.
-
MISC.
balloons. bubbles. cityscape. light. dark. candles. war. peace. money. power. clocks. photos. mirrors. pets. kisses. diary. fairy lights. mental health problems. sadness. bittersweet. happiness. optimism. pessimism. loneliness. family. friends. assistants. co-workers. enemies. loyalty. smoking. drugs. kindness. love. hugs. revenge.
seren is kind. kind, and light, and optimistic. their task is a heavy one, tense, and worrying, and precarious, so they do what they can to bring light, to show kindness against the uncertainty of the world.
#hwoo i have no idea where the writing part of this came from but it was fun!!#i keep meaning to get back to playing adfvsdgb#the saturday d&d campaign i'm in recently got BUCKWILD in the best way so that's what's been occupying my brain space as of late#but i'll get back to pillars eventually#watcher seren

Meet The Plants | Lemon Balm Benefits & Uses
Written by Sass Ayres
For such a soft, light green herb that grows like a weed, the food and medicine of lemon balm is pretty mighty. It’s a powerful mood-elevating herb, a serious antiviral, and a incredibly versatile culinary ingredient. Like salt and pepper, lemon balm’s bright, lemony flavor and fragrance compliment nearly anything you’d put on your kitchen table.
If you don’t know lemon balm yet, I hope you’ll get to know her soon. The extraordinary food and medicine of lemon balm kind of makes me feel like a better human, especially for those times when you might feel like you need a little rescuing from yourself.
Once it sprouts in your garden, you will never get rid of it. It will attach itself to your boots and go with you when you move.
Kami McBride, The Herbal Kitchen
say hello to lemon balm
Meet Melissa officinalis. Here’s the skinny:
Lemon balm is in the mint family, and if you know anything about the mint family, you know that once you plant it, it’ll be with you forever and might even take over your garden. Bring this plant to your garden enthusiastically, but also with intention. Its relatives include basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, lavender, and of course, all the mints.
It’s an upright, herbaceous perennial with oval-shaped, round-toothed leaves that can get rather bushy. Lemon balm can grown anywhere from 8″ to 5′ in height and 12-24″ wide.
Lemon balm’s flower is two-lipped and usually pale yellow, white, or pinkish. They grow in whorled clusters along the stems.
It will grow practically anywhere. Anywhere! Lemon balm is one of those plants that will push through asphalt and sidewalk cracks just to reach the sun. Although, it’s happiest in moist, but well-drained soil.
Lemon balm is known for its lemony fragrance and flavor which is due to its essential oil composition. The main essential oils that are responsible for the lemony smell are citral and citronellal, but lemon balm also contains geraniol, which is rose-scented, and linalool, which is lavender-scented. This combination of essential oils make up lemon balm’s unique scent!
Bees love it! The genus, Melissa, means “bee” in Greek and was likely named for its ability to attract honey bees.
Lemon balm has been associated with the feminine, the moon, and water. In the temple of the Ancient Roman goddess Dianna, lemon balm was considered a sacred herb.
lemon balm as medicine
Lemon balm has a long history of medicinal use. As far back as the 1st century, Greek physicians were using lemon balm to promote menstruation, to help relieve gout, and to remedy toothaches. If mixed with wine, it was said that lemon balm could also be used to treat scorpion stings and dog bites.
Through the centuries, lemon balm, like most plant medicines, served many a purpose.
Early 17th century English herbalist Nicholas Culpepper believed lemon balm was good for the heart, mind, liver, spleen, digestion, and fainting.
16th century Swiss physicians believed that lemon balm was an elixir of life that could help to increase vitality and strength, as well as to lengthen life.
11th century, physicians would use lemon balm to help treat depression.
Medieval monks and nuns used alcohol to help preserve the healing powers of many botanicals. Lemon balm was one of many herbs used in traditional cordials used to treat digestive illnesses, including Carmelite water. Carmelite water dates back 600 years and was traditionally made herbs like lemon balm and angelica infused in distilled alcohol and used to treat a wide variety of illnesses.
Today, the incredible dignity of lemon balm’s medicine lies in its use as a serious antiviral and a powerful nerve tonic. Recent research has confirmed the historical use of lemon balm as a mild and uplifting sedative. Its effects on the central nervous system are so valuable to the human population’s rampant struggle with stress and anxiety brought on by our culture’s glorification of the hustle. Lemon balm is, in fact, the perfect herbal companion to help counteract anxiety, tension, and stress-related fatigue.
The incredible dignity of lemon balm’s medicine lies in its use as a serious antiviral & a powerful nerve tonic that can help relieve anxiety & emotional turmoil.
lemon balm as food
While lemon balm is perhaps known more for its medicine, mostly because it’s not a very popular culinary herb, it is, in fact, an incredibly pleasant and versatile culinary herb. Its culinary use spans both savory and sweet. In fact, there’s hardly a dish you could name that lemon balm wouldn’t fit in to. Seriously.
Early colonists in North America would use lemon balm as a substitute for lemon in jams and jellies. It can be added to so many dishes, anything from cheeses to egg dishes to vegetables and fish to custards, jams, jellies, and cakes to herb vinegars and marinades. Lemon balm also compliments many fruits and is a great herb to add into fruit salads. Lemon balm syrups can be added to soda water, desserts, or tea.
As a food, lemon balm is incredibly high in flavonoids, which contribute to its high antioxidant capacity. It’s also high in vitamin C and thiamin, a B vitamin that is essential for glucose metabolism and plays an important role in nerve, muscle, and heart function.

Magick Meanings - dainty, luck, purity NOTE: The problem is, it is closely related to, and looks almost exactly like another wild plant, Wild or Poison Hemlock, which often grows profusely in similar habitats, and is said to be the most poisonous plant native to the United States. The best way to differentiate between the two plants is to remember that Queen Anne’s Lace has a hairy stem, while the stems of Wild Hemlock are smooth and hairless and hollow with purple spots.

Essie - questionnaire
Just trying to get to know Essie better, ignore me! Will add more later.
1. Does s/he enjoy puzzles?
Not particularly. Even given nothing to do, Essie would probably prefer much anything else.
2. Does s/he enjoy education?
I don’t even know if she had a real education. I’m sure she learned more on her own means. I think she’s pretty neutral on learning. It helps better you but she doesn’t see it as fun but neither does she see it as terrible.
3. What is his/her sexual orientation?
Pansexual Panromantic.
4. Is s/he right-handed, left-handed, or ambidextrous?
Right-handed but ambidextrous casting spells cuz, well, ya almost gotta be..
5. Is s/he fashionable?
Essie don’t give a fuck. She wears what she likes, or wears what is suitable to the weather, or wears shit just to piss people off. So probably not.
6. What is their favorite food(s)?
Okay, here goes: smoked salmon on a bed of greens, herb roast pheasant, venison steak cooked rare to med-rare with roasted potatoes, garlic clam soup, mushroom and leek stew, berry tarts with mint, stuffed trout, pickled duck eggs, sharp cheeses, sunflower seeds, almonds, honeycakes, and she has a preference for drinking spiced ale, orchid wines, and elven made wines that are sweeter and aromatic. I can also see her having a taste for tea, particularly with honey, and sweet or spiced ciders. Maybe some hard spirits in a group atmosphere.
7. Has s/he ever broken a bone?
Nope, not yet at least.
8. Any interests or hobbies?
She enjoys magic, even using it to make kids happy. She enjoys dancing, secretly. Gambling maybe, uh... going on adventures obviously. Will add more if I think of it; she’s lived a life of survival so she probably doesn’t hide many hobbies.
9. Does s/he consider themself organized?
lmao no and she knows that. Ms. Throw-It-All-In-The-Bag.
10. How does s/he handle feeling nauseous?
No food, only liquids. Try laying down. If it doesn’t stop after a while, try walking around slowly in hopes to agitate self enough to just hurl.
11. What is his/her full name?
Essätha Medüza - the last name is a kick on Medusa from mythology.
12. Introvert or extrovert?
She’s a wanna-be-extro. Doesn’t trust others well, but has a desire to fit in and hang with others. At the moment she’s honestly more intro by nature though.
13. Can s/he cook?
Probably okay. Still prone to burning food from time to time lol whoops. But for the most part it’ll be edible, probably just not super tasty.
14. Did s/he have any friends growing up?
Yes! I plan on doing art for some of ‘em eventually.
15. How does s/he react to storms? Being caught in the storm?
Essie likes a good rainfall. Probably doesn’t mind being caught in them, even ‘bad’ storms, so long as it isn’t snow. Too damn cold.
16. Does s/he collect anything?
Nope. Maybe scars. //bricked// Nah because of her lifestyle, she’s not one to gather trinkets or stuff. Necessities and useful stuff only really.
17. Is s/he religious?
lol nope. Doesn’t care for gods or religion or any of that junk.
18. What inspires him/her?
I don’t know... uh, music for dancing. Sunsets and sunrises. The idea that life can get better. Transformation/growing.
19. Do they have a role model?
Maybe her mom, despite not knowing her. Eventually I’m sure she’ll see some of her fellow team members in this way.
20. What’s their favorite joke?
Probably secretly snake puns. Examples: “let me give you a hiss”, “viper that smirk off your face”, “I’ll snake some puns in there”, etc.
21. How would your character describe his/her friends? Lover? Parents?
dnd group companions to be determined.
Opal: (kind stranger) Orange furry cat woman. Seems to follow her own moral code of good which is pure and generous. Pretty kind.
Kraw: (teacher) Bird man of tans, reds, and dark browns/blacks. Grumpy but has a good heart. May try eating you if you’re an animal or can turn into an animal but otherwise nice. Drinker but a sad drinker when he does.
Solace: (ally/best friend) Outgoing, bubbly, considerate reddish-pink tiefling with obsidian eyes and violet blue-toned hair. She’s a rebel but is caring despite her dicey past. Essie considers her a better person than herself.
Phoenix: (aquitaine) Lady crazypants. Charcoal skin with scar-like markings that glow like lava flow when she’s using her powers. Fiery colored eyes and hair. Very much gives a masculine vibe. Will kill you with no regrets. Something’s wrong with her but she is willing to work with others for her own gain which is relatable.
Bretella: (frienemy) Considered a trustworthy ally. Green skinned redhead with golden eyes. Tends to weary flashy or seductive clothing. Will bail you out of a situation but patronize you later. High self-esteem.
Miz'ri: (enemy) A lost friend. Light grey skin, white hair, pale lilac eyes. Essie wishes that the millions of things that went wrong between them hadn’t. She hopes there’s still godo to be found in Miz’ri. A sad, broken soul.
Hepsiba: (mother) Truly the most beautiful person in existence. Warm, loving, considerate, gentle, sweet, gorgeous. Hepsiba is gone now, but her memory is still a vibrant light of warmth. Essie probably looks to the stars and likes to think her mom is up there, staring down at her. Mom was an auburn-skinned beauty with brown eyes.
Tyfiell: (father) Never met him. Mom spoke well of him, but Essie doesn’t think well of someone who ditched her mom. Said to be a dark-skinned Yuan-Ti Pureblood with dark eyes and a wicked smile. Rogue class.
22. How would s/he describe themself?
LOL nothing good unfortunately... She thinks she’s physically ugly due to how she was treated by others when she was young. She doesn’t find redeemable qualities in herself too much, either. Resident snake lady would probably say “I don’t got time for this” if asked. “I’m a scaly Yuan-Ti woman, hi.”
23. What is his/her birthday? Star sign? Do they fit it?
April 12, which would make their zodiac the Aries. It sounds semi fitting, as they’re labeled as ‘courageous, confident, short-tempered, and impulsive’ but like anything else, there’s some manners that aren’t perfectly fitting (optimistic, aggressive, etc).
24. How good is s/he at mending clothes?
She doesn’t know the Mending ability lol! Kidding aside, I don’t believe it’s her hobby or anything. I mean, if you look at some of her clothes, they’ve got tears and threads pulled free. Probably not.
25. How does s/he react to someone spilling something on them?
Depends on the atmosphere? 90% of the time she’ll realize it’s an accident, jump when it happens, and then request the server or whomever fetch something to help clean up the mess- not impolitely just with some urgency in her tone. She’d probably only have a .1% chance going off an the server because hey, shit happens, but if she’s in a bad mood already she may snap at anyone around she’s unhappy with at the moment.
26. How does s/he react to being approached by law enforcement?
‘Oh shit time to run they’re probably after me’ is her thought processing.
27. Do they paint/draw?
Nah, not really her cup of tea.
28. Does s/he prefer any musical instruments?
Essie can’t play, but she probably enjoys winds and strings for daily life, but the occasionally ‘sick beat’ of a big band of instruments to dance to would be A+.
29. If they had a tumblr, what would their account name be?
venomspikedwine
30. How good are they at keeping an eye on their money? Do they also splurge frequently?
Admittedly, Essatha enjoys hoarding funds. As someone who grew up with little, she’s a bit of a hoarder and is very unlikely to misplace even a copper piece. If she splurges, she’s likely drunk or enjoying a ‘luxury’ she didn’t have much as a child (ex: tarts), or items useful for survival, combat, friends, etc.
31. 3-5 random pieces of trivia about them that doesn’t come up often?
Essie loves music; especially pieces with a soft melody. She grew a garden once. Lastly she has had no real schooling; she’s mostly self-taught or listened in on others or hired other’s to teach her. This might be one of the reasons why she’s a bit of a slow reader.
32. Does s/he prefer dawn or dusk?
She feels more ‘lively’ during dawn but enjoys dusk for the twilight glow, the stars, etc. So both with maybe a slight preference for dusk.
33. Have them describe themself in 3 words!
(no, Essie, you can’t use ‘snake lady’ for 2 words, use adjectives).
confident, misunderstood, bull-headed
34. How would s/he react to someone confessing they have a crush on them?
All the blushing. So much blushing. Open-mouthed like ‘uhh??’ If she doesn’t return the feelings, she’ll probably be really embarrassed. Stuttering as she tries the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’. Unless it’s not someone she’s close with, in which case, she’d use their ‘crush’ to her advantage. If it’s someone she has a crush on as well, she’ll blush and look away. Be shy. You’d probably need to convince her to speak or look at you again cuz she’d be like ‘?! they like me? me???’
35. What is his/her favorite scent?
Desserts, rain, the outdoors (especially earthy scents).
36. If they had a Pokemon team, what PKMN would they have?
With ‘starter’: Serperior, Weavile, Houndoom, Phantump, Dragalge, Togetic.
Without ‘starter’: same team, replace Serperior with Kangaskhan.
37. Can s/he sing? act?
She can’t sing well but that won’t stop her when she has the urge. Obviously she can act, or she wouldn’t play people so well lol.
38. Can s/he swim?
Yep!
39. Does s/he drink? Do drugs? Smoke?
Yes she drinks, no she doesn’t do drugs (unless medicines in the d&d count? I don’t know what sort of drugs they have), no she doesn’t smoke.
40. Are they good with children?
Yeah actually! She wants kids to have a happy youth, unlike what she had, so she’s willing to do things to entertain and help kiddos. If a kid cons her, she’d try to even hunt them down purely to see if there’s any way she could help them.
41. What sort of atmosphere does s/he give off?
Depends. Either antisocial or exceptional flirt depending on what’s going on to the average person.
42. Do they believe in any form of afterlife?
Yeah, she thinks there’s an afterlife. What it entails, she doesn’t dare imagine.
43. What’s the first thing s/he does in the morning after waking?
Roll outta bed/sleeping bag and get dressed, think about getting something to drink asap.
44. Who would be his/her voice actor/ress?
Morrigan from Dragon Age, voiced by Claudia Black. Dragon Age: Inquisition seems the best bet, as Morrigan’s voice seems more controlled and less bubbly than Origins. Perhaps Origins though when she’s interacting with Sul?
45. How would you describe his/her aesthetic?
Clothing wise: revealing/sexy. Personal taste: nature, stars, anything that’s just lulling, tranquil, natural to the world...
46. How would s/he react to supernatural/paranormal phenomenons?
Willing to fight a ghost. Probably be spooked at first, but after the first encounter with these sort of creations, she’d probably be okay. Just that first time... “woah let’s punch this ghost” half damage “holy shit you can punch a ghost? Cool. Also magic time becuz wow that didn’t do shit”.
47. How would s/he confess their love to others?
Judging by conversations with Heather, she’d be hecka frustrated. What are feelings. I don’t know what this is. Why do I care about you so much please explain this to me? And once she figures out that it’s love she’s feeling... that explains the confusion, the butterflies in her stomach, the awkward shyness even she couldn’t explain when she reacted to them being nice but... I must now blush... and hide my face...
48. How do they react to being bored?
Time to unbored herself by doing something. Hunting, pestering others, flirting, gambling, anything but sitting there jiggin her leg if she can help it. Restlessness doesn’t fit her.
49. Have they ever been stung by a bee?
Yush.
50. If they had to pick a Disney Princess/Prince, which do they like? Which do they feel most alike? Which do they aspire to be most like?
Essie would probably really like Tiana for her go-getter attitude. She probably feels most like Rapunzel, locked away from the world and badly treated by her ‘caretaker(s)’ (the city she grew up in) but now she’s free and adventuring and seeking her own trues and fulfilling her curiosities. Who she’d probably most aspire to be I guess would be Moana (not qualified as a Disney princess yet, but admirable all the same. Moana went on an adventure, conquered it, found herself, defeated the big bad, etc) or Merida (they share like-characteristics, and Merida didn’t need a man to complete her, though family/friends it reveals are important).
21 Q’s for d&d Chars and OCS, taken from here
1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character?
First d&d campaign. Kept getting stuck between a handful of races. Finally got down to 4, then 3, then 2. Had to wait and see if Ammy would approve Yuan-Ti Purebloods. Got approved. Suddenly whAM - inspiration. Didn’t want a flat typical ‘evil’ Yuan-Ti. Her background was helpfully inspired by the one I picked- Urchin. I just continued adding tragedy because I’m an asshole.
2. What is your character’s relationship with their family? Family is a word which here refers to biological relatives, close companions, and/or the individual(s) who raised them.
Essie’s only known family was her mother. She was very close with her, sadly, her mom passed when she was young, probably 3-4ish. She never knew her dad. Her relationship with chosen family is positive. Details on ‘chosen’ family will be thought up further later, as I’m confident she’ll come to consider her traveling companions like family.

Her mum (deceased), and eventually probably Sul and the group. I feel she’ll particularly enjoy Cackle and Adela but we’ll see~

15. What is the best gift they could receive?
Mom’s love. //bricked// Mom’s ring??? That seems about all at the moment...
16. If they could instantly kill one person in the world without consequence, who would it be?
Probably everyone in their childhood city whoops- or at least someone there that caused her tremendous pain.
17. If they were in possession of a trio of wishes, what would their three wishes be?
Mom to come back to life (probably rejected), happiness (rejected), money (rejected), new clothes, new items to help with spells, idk something to help the dnd group as a whole then.
18. What is their favorite spell or method of attack?
Unknown at the moment. I’ll probably say her Magic Missiles and Acid Splash.

Most Popular Chinese Drinks You Should Try
Every culture has its own history that translates into its inhabitants’ lifestyle. And although modernization has eroded most cultures, the Chinese is among the few which, despite being among the most sophisticated societies in the world, have retained most of their ancient ways. In fact, they don’t even celebrate New Year like the rest of the world; they have their own calendar.
Moreover, it is evident that Chinese food and drinks have not really changed much except for a few tweaks here and there. They have special drinks for Chinese New Year, for example, that have been enjoyed during the celebration for many years. Apart from that, there’s a long list of other popular and traditional Chinese drinks that you definitely need to try out. Some of them are perfect to have on their own, but others perfectly complement some local savory dishes or popular Asian desserts.
In any case, if you’re planning to travel to this beautiful country, make a point of enjoying at least a drink or two from each of the categories below, you won’t be disappointed.

As mentioned before, the Chinese are big on their old ways of life as seen in the way they relate with each other, their foods, drinks, and clothing. Therefore, it’s not surprising that there are some traditional Chinese drinks which are still a favorite for many individuals. Popular Chinese drinks in this category include:
Jiuniang
Jiuniang is a sweet wine made from fermented white rice to which Osmanthus flowers are added to give some fragrance. Most families make their own Jiuniang at home thought various rice wine brands are available on supermarkets. Note that this drink has a low alcohol content.
Cooling Chinese Herbal Tea
There are two popular Chinese drinks which are classified as cooling tea: Jia Duo Bao and Wang Lao Ji. The two drinks have an almost similar recipe and popularity, especially in the southern China region.
TAKEAWAY: Wang Lao Ji, popularly known as “tea in the red cans” by the non-Chinese, is more than just a drink. Its contents include a blend of traditional Chinese herbal medicine that traces its origins to the Qing Dynasty in 1828. Cooling Chinese herbal tea was invented by Dr. Wong and his family and, to date, descendants to the family still manufacture this tea. It pairs perfectly with spicy foods.

There’s a long list of Chinese soft drinks. However, this list only features the most popular ones.
Pearl Milk Tea
Also commonly referred to as “Bubble Milk” thanks to the jelly-like pearls at the bottom of the teacup, it’s a tasty drink. The jelly-like pearls are floating tapioca balls that are added to the sweetened milk tea. Although sweet and delicious at any temperature, pearl milk tea leaves a bitter aftertaste. Though this beverage is a favorite in mainland China, it’s original from Taiwan.
Salted Soda Water
Before Coca-Cola entered the market, among the popular Chinese soft drinks was the salted soda water. It’s still a favorite among old-school folks, and it’s mainly found in Shanghai. Salted soda water is basically a fizzy/carbonated water with a taste of mint and lemon.
Popular Chinese Cocktails

The cocktails on this list are just a handful of the many that exist. And you should note that many of the drinks on this list are usually prepared for Chinese New Year.
Chivas with Green Tea: It consists of scotch whiskey mixed with sweetened green tea. It has a honeyed taste, and it’s one of the most popular drinks in nightclubs.
Jade Cocktail: It receives its name and its green color from the Jade stone. Jade is a precious stone in Chinese culture representing sincerity, loyalty, justice, wisdom, and purity. So it’s a perfect New Year drink if you are looking for some of those virtues in your life.
Lychee Liqueur Martini: This cocktail is based on the vodka martini, including vodka and lychee liqueur. With its pink color symbolizes love and well-being.
Opium Cocktail: This alcoholic beverage has a surprising Cuban-Chinese origin. It blends bourbon with grapefruit and lemon juice, poppy seed and tamarind syrup.
The Green Dragon: A powerful animal in the Chinese calendar deserved a powerful drink. The Green Dragon is a mix of several strong-flavored drinks such as gin, mint cream, an herbal liqueur called Kummel and orange bitters. That’s why this drink is an acquired taste.
Orange Oasis: Orange is the symbol of wealth and good fortune in China, so this drink based on orange juice is the perfect start to the new year. Apart from orange juice, it mixes gin, ginger ale, and cherry brandy.

Two popular Chinese drinks under this category include Tsingtao beer and Baijiu.
Baijiu
Baijiu is made from fermented sorghum and is the Chinese national liquor with an alcohol content of 30 – 60%. According to traidition, this liquors must be served in small glasses at room temperature. Baijiu is one of those drinks that gets better with age, so you can find cheaper and more expensive bottles.
Tsingtao Beer
If an alcohol content of 40-60% is not how you like your alcohol, you can opt for Chinese beers. Tsingtao beer is one of the favorite most consumed brands and is sold in many countries around the world. It has a low alcohol content making it perfect for enjoying it during a night out in town.
Conclusion
It is impossible not to see how Chinese food and drinks are a reflection of their way of life and culture. Their drinks, just like their foods, are unique. What’s more, all these drinks have a health aspect to them. So next time you travel to China, make sure you try some of these drinks to have a taste of their culture.

The east India company in 1848, the royal botanic garden greenhouse director Robert? fortune came to China, he put tea tree seed in a made of special glass in the portable incubator, sneaking on the ship from China to India, so must more than tea sapling germinate in India, and then formed a large-scale tea garden. After tea was introduced into Europe, it was not so popular as coffee and cocoa, until it entered the British Isles far away from the European mainland, which miraculously set off the fashion of tea drinking, and thus produced a wonderful flower of the world tea culture -- British tea culture.
In English, the word Teatime refers to the amount of time spent drinking tea, which accounts for one in three British lives. English black tea is famous for its variety and rich contents. The main contents include:
British people in the morning to drink "morning Tea", also known as "eye Tea", namely Earlymorning Tea, sometimes before the morning Tea will also have "bedside Tea", that is, the morning when you wake up against the bed can enjoy the Tea. Morning tea is mainly black tea as the main drink, is one of the important contents of the British signature tea, it is rich and fresh in one, color and taste are quite outstanding. Legitimate morning tea to select Assam, Ceylon, Kenya and other places of black tea modulation, so the taste of breakfast tea from Ceylon, concentration from Assam, color from Kenya, it can be seen that the British morning tea is quite exquisite, the most suitable for drinking after getting up in the morning.
This is the least known British tea drinking habit, also known as "sabbatical", which lasts about 20 minutes. At 1l in the morning, British people, whether aristocrats enjoying life at home or busy working group, all take a short rest and drink a cup of tea at this time. They call it elevens, namely, light meal at 11 o 'clock in the morning, so morning tea can be regarded as a good way to relieve British people from work. Generally speaking, morning tea is the simplest part of English tea because it cannot be very complicated due to the constraint of objective conditions.
English name is Afternoon Tea, which is actually the carrier of British Tea culture in the true sense. British Tea enjoys a worldwide reputation by virtue of its rich connotation and elegant form of "British Afternoon Tea" -- black Tea culture, and "British Afternoon Tea" has become a symbol of British people's elegant life. The special tea sources for afternoon tea are pure tea with traditional flavor, such as darjeeling tea, earl grey tea, gunpowder green tea or Ceylon tea. If you choose milk tea, you need to pour milk before putting tea water.
The etiquette of proper English afternoon tea is very particular. First of all, the time for tea should be four o 'clock in the afternoon; Second, in the Victorian era, men had to wear tuxedos and women gowns; The 3rd, in tea party it is to wear formal dress to serve for the guest personally normally by goodwife, must just let maidservant assist, with respect to the guest thereby. Finally, there are afternoon tea snacks, usually served on three layers of dessert porcelain, with sandwiches on the first, scones on the second and cakes and fruit tarts on the third, always from the bottom up.
When tea arrived in Britain, its selling point was its medicinal properties. As a result, Chinese tea, then sold in Britain, was a magical, cure-all medicine. In 1699, a clergyman named orrington wrote a whole paper on nature and the quality of tea. In the article, he fully affirmed the good effects of tea in the treatment of diabetes, gallstones, urinary stones, kidney stones, edema, weak vision and other areas, and repeatedly recommended that everyone should drink tea instead of wine. He believed that tea can keep people awake and feel happy, and it is a kind of enjoyable drink.
When "black tea queen" -- after the catharine princess of Portugal marries British king Charlie 2 in 1662, tea and tea ceremony begin to be popularized in England, Chinese tea is changed gradually by the plant that has medicinal property for fashionable life is indicative, British high society evolves its to have a kind of exotic emotional appeal and the lifestyle of luxurious sex. "Tea" began to be active as a kind of drink. Even though the high price makes many people stop, there is still a fixed market and consumer group.
During the reign of queen Victoria, with the expansion of British colonial trade, overseas tea sources continued to increase, and the British import tariff also decreased year by year. Tea finally entered the life of ordinary people from the position of luxury. With the decline of the consumption class, great changes have taken place in the way the British people consume tea. The British are very creative in adding sugar, milk and honey to their red tea soup, and sometimes even more bizarre things like whisky, butter and eggs. The addition of other substances to tea was a revolution in tea consumption, making tea more practical. However, the British reform of Chinese tea also completed the localization of tea after the introduction, so tea drinking is more common. Around 1750, tea had become a staple of the English middle class's buttered toast breakfast.
For more than a century, tea became almost the national drink of Britain. From the beginning of medicine in the 17th century, it became a national consumer product in the 18th century. The prosperity of the consumer society, in turn, improved the taste of tea. In the 18th century, tea gardens specializing in the consumption of tea drinks appeared in the British society, necessary costumes and utensils for drinking tea appeared, and even art forms such as tea dance were born.
The real tea culture of Britain was born in the Victorian era of the 19th century. The invention of afternoon tea meant that tea drinking got rid of the status of simple food culture and gradually became a synonym of elegant life. As a leisure culture, tea drinking in turn promotes a new round of changes in the consumption pattern and social values of British society.
English afternoon tea is the most gorgeous, delicate and luxurious way to eat. In the afternoon tea activities in Britain, the requirements on the environment are extremely strict, which must reflect the close combination between the British high culture and the natural life. At the same time, the choice of afternoon tea must be high-grade tea, tea sets and meals have clear specifications. This systematic requirement represents the generation of a higher cultural form -- not a simple means to solve the problem of food and clothing, but a life style that integrates aesthetic value and practical value, and has become one of the important means of social entertainment.
British tea art is the external manifestation of British tea culture, and British tea ceremony is the spirit carried out in the process of tea art, which can be combined with the philosophy of life. The combination of tea art and tea ceremony is the result of highly unified material and spirit. What can truly reflect the essence of British tea ceremony is exactly the British people's requirements for tea sets and basic etiquette.
At the same time, in addition to strict tea drinking standards, British tea culture also has certain requirements on the environment for drinking tea. What British people advocate is the elegant life of aristocrats. The afternoon tea party is a social occasion for people to judge their personal culture, and it is also the best way to study social etiquette and show the elegant demeanor of gentlemen and ladies. Men are dressed formally and appropriately, and tea sets are handled gently to ensure the quietness of the tea room. Women speak with grace and poise, and when people pass by, they move politely and smile. In a formal afternoon tea party you can fully feel the impact of English literary temperament and personal cultivation.
Therefore, in addition to the content of tea art and tea ceremony, British tea ceremony is also reflected in British culture, which is the reason why a country really has "tea ceremony". Peculiar to the British afternoon tea culture is a reflection of the national spirit, the British landmark elegant, noble entirely concentrated in the nation is elegant and luxuriant tea ceremony, even brilliant history already not, but the cohesion in the pursuit of quality of life in the tea culture and the traditional remembrance, also one of the British people blood, can not erase.
Compared with China and Japan, Britain has only a few hundred years of tea drinking history, but British writers have a deep affection for tea. After more than a hundred years of development in Britain, tea gradually integrated into British culture, and then organically combined with English literature, became an indispensable part of many literary works. Tea has brought British writers a new and rich creative subject.
Keats wrote of lovers waiting for their tea, nibbling at their toast and waiting for it to cool with a sigh. Byron called tea "the tears of China." he was "moved by the tears of China -- the goddess of green tea. According to the biography of byron, he kept his tea habit even when he went to Greece to fight in the armed forces: "as soon as he got up in the morning, he went to work. Then have a cup of tea and ride out on business. When you come back, eat some cheese and fruit. Read by night." Of course, black tea is not his only choice. When referring to Chinese tea, he often mentions two types: black tea and green tea:
I actually
Sadly, blame the Chinese green tea,
The fairy of tears! She's better than Cassandra the witch
Much more effective, because as long as I drink it
Three cups of pure juice shall make my heart glad,
So they had to turn to wuyi's black tea;
It's a pity that drinking is bad for you.
And drinking tea and coffee makes people take themselves too seriously.
In a long poem written in 1820 by Shelley, a famous poet of the same period, Letter to Maria Gisbome reads:
The medicine man complained about the drink, and I
Will drink in spite of counsel, when death comes
We will flip a coin to decide who will die first for tea.
Tea is holy, prose is beautiful, so what will be the combination of tea and prose? English prose leaves us with the pleasant, leisurely, wonderful memory of drinking tea. "The four seasons of essays", formerly known as The Private cca shut of Henry Ryecroft is George? gissing prose masterpiece, narrative is a hermit Henry ? lake loft indulged in The books, The natural scenery and memories of The past life, The author recorded The time of afternoon tea and tea, character, The etiquette, etc, expressing his feelings for tea tea and family atmosphere and touches.
"One of the bright moments of my day is when I come back from my afternoon walk a little tired, and take off my boots and put on my slippers, and hang up my outdoor coat, and put on my comfortable, family coat, and sit in my deep soft armchair, and wait for the tea tray, or at tea time, these are the most pleasant and restful feelings I have. With the appearance of the teapot, the rich fragrance wafted into my study, how wonderful. What comfort the first cup brought to my heart, and how leisurely I drank it afterwards; What warmth it brings after a walk in the cold rain! Looking at my books and pictures at the same time, enjoying the happiness of having them. I look at my pipe; Or, with an air that seemed thoughtful, I prepared to pack tobacco. As a matter of fact, the leaf is no longer after tea -- it is itself a mild and sensible thing -- so soothing, so suggestive of human thought."
After tea arrived in England, it was not only a "friend of MUSES", "nectar of gods" or a source of inspiration for poets, but also sought after by many novelists. It is said that "tea drinking covers almost all English novels". This is an exaggeration, but the fact is enough to prove that English novels are full of tea fragrance and tea culture.
The Pickwick Papers, by Charles Dickens, a famous Victorian novelist, has been used 86 times, far more than other works. Dickens's account of a monthly meeting of the brick street chapter of the church temperance union is so impressive that Mr Weller, the hero, is transfixed when he sees that they can drink so much tea. The description not only expresses people's enthusiasm for the temperance movement at that time, but also affirms the special role of tea in the temperance movement in Britain.
Tea is not only a kind of drink and food, but also a kind of art work. It is also a history of culture, medicine and literature. Through tea, we can see a country's art, culture, literature and so on. Tea from the east to the west, from China to Britain, experienced a rocky road, like the growth process of life, and eventually mature. In Britain, tea was first a "medicine", then a luxury for the aristocracy, and finally a necessity for the national drink, which has evolved into the popular black tea culture in the world today. This process is long but adds to the beauty of Britain's history, culture and society.
