[ 🫀 ] does your muse make decisions with their head or their heart? perhaps a bit of both? [Some Kaiya love perhaps?]
HEADCANONS | @timelostobserver asks about kaiya!
kaiya 100% uses her heart when making decisions. of course there's some logic involved, but she's more likely to act according to what she feels is right. for example, she chooses to save chinatsu after seeing her memories because she feels sympathy for her. chinatsu hasn't been a demon that long in comparison to kaiya and sei -- she could still return to her family, still find some peace despite the bloodshed and get her life back to some degree. it's just happy coincidence that chinatsu is related to someone important, so kaiya could convince sei to spare her. but even if chinatsu was just some regular civilian, kaiya still would have protected her. she never considers the logic or advantage that chinatsu might provide them until she's trying to stop sei from killing her.
kaiya will listen to logic, she'll consider the facts, but she's more susceptible to emotion and her own moral compass always.
#timelostobserver#sei is very much against saving every demon they come across bc to him existence as a demon is cruel#and it's crueler when that demon regains their humanity -- especially if they aren't like him or kaiya#who can sleep or eat other demons to regain their strength#i mean chinatsu is hungry 99% of the time bc her diet didn't magically change#and kaiya understands his reasoning and goes along with it most of the time but :' )) sometimes she has to go against it#anyway anyway!! thanks for this <3 i love gushing over kaiya and i really should do it more!#headcanons | kaiya

So, like, if you've read SVSSS far enough, you know about the Bingmei vs Bingge part. And there's all sorts of stories with Bingge (basically a PIDW Binghe, not SVSSS Binghe) finding his own shizun in various ways.
Well, what about if he manages to summon a Shen Yuan, but his soul is in Shen Jiu's body? Which, like, wouldn't really be a problem, except he's already been torturing Shen Jiu for a good while now and he's down an eye and all of his limbs are mostly stubs at this point. Thankfully he still has his tongue and penis, which, after so often demanding Shen Jiu be castrated, he's pretty jazzed that didn't happen.
Shen Yuan, being the absolute freak he is, probably wouldn't mind too much. After all, he'd read this part of the story and cheered it on. Just cause he's now experiencing it himself, doesn't mean the revenge was any less cathartic.
Though, well, the dreams he has about what Shen Jiu went through does dampen his enjoyment of his suffering (so many lives lost that he can do nothing about, so much torment that just cycled on because no one thought to seek help, because the world was built so firmly on cruelty)...
And perhaps he'd woken up sobbing at times, crying his apologies to Binghe as though he was the one who had done all those terrible things to him, but he didn't, but those dreams were so vivid and felt so real
The girls at the Warm Red Pavilion, were they okay? Shen Jiu never had sex with them, only kept company to avoid the boys when he couldn't sleep and trained them in the four arts and gathered information from them, gods, he'd misunderstood Shen Jiu and thought him a remorseless villain and enemy to women
Liu Qingge, fuck--
At least now he can help Binghe actually enjoy his life and perhaps stop the cycle of abuse from continuing. Besides, cool motive, Shen Jiu, still child torment. And though the results were quite drastic, it was the dog-eat-dog world of xianxia China, and life was generally unfair. No reason to make Binghe's life needlessly unfair on top of everything.
But yeah! Now that he's in Shen Jiu's body, he and Luo Binghe get to talk, and Binghe, for the first time in his life, experiences regret for his actions, because now his lovely new kind shizun can't card his fingers through his hair or twist little braids into it. Moreover, Shen Yuan somewhat mourns over the fact Binghe's hair is straightened--he loved reading about his bouncy curls.
So now, imagining that, after time, Shen Yuan becomes a more prominent figure in the empire, especially post-marriage. He has a lovely eyepatch and wears soft red, black, and gold clothes, heavy on the red and gold. This nearly limbless man helps Luo Binghe do his taxes and works out various tips on using beasts to the benefit of the empire and remembering small notes about other races that allows the Demon Emperor to be both magnanimous and fierce in whomever's eyes he meets.
Others can't decide if Shen Qingqiu's mind was utterly broken, if he was cursed to act against his own will, or if he was possessed by some strange spirit. Regardless, the realms have never been in such peace before now.
Moreover, Luo Binghe has started changing.
While he can never regain the height lost to a childhood full of suffering and a lack of nutrients, he can change in other ways. He actually eats healthier because Shen Yuan insists on having him eat as well. He steadily stops straightening his hair, letting his curls return until they're like clouds. His muscles grow in firmer and his chest broadens.
Also, as he and his kind shizun speak further, even though he explores the worst parts of himself and uncovers those dirty, evil deeds and the ways they truly hurt him, Xin Mo doesn't get the chance to latch onto them anymore. As painful as discussing those things are...releasing them is exceptionally freeing. So, a sense of inner strength and ease he never had before starts to settle in his body, and his qi, usually constantly battling, stabilizes more than before, his heart demons no longer so adamant or strong.
As a side-effect of both parts, he was already handsome, but now, he's even more so. A wise, secure man no longer so strongly gripped by hatred, lust, or greed. Someone unforgivable to many, but becoming okay with forgiving himself.
Indeed, what a man!
Which is kinda a shame for Luo Binghe's many wives, because he's been heavily trimming down on his harem. Political marriages are substituted for other exchanges, fervent troublemakers are sent back to their homes (the ones who dared to attack his A'Yuan are never heard from again, strangely), and wives who simply ask for divorce are granted them, receiving a hefty gift for at least being loyal whilst married.
So, previously, a harem once numbering into the hundreds falls to the tens, and the remaining ones are either ambivalent or antsy.
Then, as though to answer everyone's burgeoning questions, he names Shen Yuan his empress during a meeting and proclaims that they will make preparations for his crowning ceremony.
I feel like that'd really set off what remained of Cian Qiong Mountain Sect.
Hmm... I think I'll talk more about this later.

Hello! I'm new to this blog so you won't mind me make my first request right? I won't request the same alot of time I promise!
So, a yandere Yoriichi X Demon! Reader?
Reader is.. a good demon. They basically somehow already got out of Muzan's control when they just became demon (like gaining control over themself, remebering their human memories, doesn't have the need to eat human flesh or just hungry all the time.)
And.. they force themself to have a bamboo muzzle (like Nezuko), they just cut a piece of bamboo, use a red ribbon (they got from a corpse) and boom, bamboo in mouth and have to get used to it themself. They sleep to regain energy and eat normal humans food to maintain hunger.
They want to die to reunite with their family. But is afraid to. They like quicker deaths than painful death. Like basically not just conquering the sun but let a demon slayer or anyone decapitate them (sometimes)
They hide from humans and demons, sometimes helping humans who wander to their place to get out peacefully.
Their strength is as strong as Akaza.
(Yoriichi and reader used to be childhood friends.)
Hope you can do it! And i'm not forcing <𝟹 ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
My lord. This is very long, my dear. But I suppose I’ll try my best to add everything you mentioned here! Hope all my glass angels enjoy this
Yandere! Tsugikuni Yoriichi
Yoriichi remembers a time where you were just like him. A human, running around in the sun, eating amazing food. But now, he found nothing of your presence but a puddle of blood
And his world cracked. He loved you dearly, he almost felt nothing for his assigned wife Uta. She is wonderful but she doesn’t compare to you in Yoriichi’s mind
He thought you were gone for good and he bared sharp grieving pain in silence. That was until he found you again, scratching at a tall bamboo stick to carve it. A piece of bundled up fabric stuffed in your mouth
You’re a demon? No… you couldn’t have become a demon. You can fight too, how did you get caught off guard? Yoriichi approaches you and lowers his katana to try show you that he won’t hurt you
He suspected you’d attack him but you don’t. You mumble out joyous noises and hug him. His broken heart beats again as he is so relieved, cuddling you like you hold his life in your hands
Neither of you know how you managed to break free of Muzan’s curse, you only remember waking up and retaining a small piece of your memories, mainly revolving around the Tsugikuni Twins. Yoriichi is just so thankful he has you back
Yoriichi helps make you your bamboo muzzle as you gesture at him to the bamboo stick you were carving with your claws. Anything you want is what you get, as Yoriichi will do anything he must for the one he truly loves
Yoriichi uses his own clothing to make a protective bag for you and straps you to his back so he can traverse whilst you fall asleep to gather energy. It’s the only thing you can do and he is fine with bending to your needs
Yoriichi is aware of your occasional suicidal tendencies and he is afraid of it. He can’t lose you, he already lost his family and his older twin brother, Michikatsu. So he begins following you around everywhere you go and guards you from other Samurai, so they can’t hurt you in any form
Yoriichi helps hide you away from any conscious bean, other than him, since you prefer to be away from humans and demons. He spends lots of time making you a basket or a box to keep you inside. The fact you want him to help you has his delusional mind jumping to conclusions
Yoriichi is very obsessive and possessive. As you sleep in your protective box/basket, he just lays his head on the top of it and takes in your presence, he remembers everything of you well and he just indulges in you when he isn’t travelling so he can feed his twisted desires
Yoriichi isn’t above murdering any demon that lays a hand on you but humans are a different story, he still has a trace of humanity in his rotten mindset, so he emptily threatens his human rivals with death. That way everybody will leave you alone
Yoriichi loves you so much, he’d tear through the seven forests for you, all to get you what you want. As long as it doesn’t include your death or harm, he will do anything for you. In his head, every slave-like favour he does makes you love him so much more
Yoriichi has a habit of going through your belongings and sniffs your beautiful kimono as he cleans it for you. He may breach your privacy for his sick love but he wouldn’t steal anything, he respects you to the moon and back
Yoriichi is the sun but his rays deflect you from the sun. You need constant protection and when you’re isolated from all humanity and demon-kind, you are preserved as his and only his. He doesn’t care how horrible he is become, he just needs you
His beloved significant other. He will “work” hard to find a cure for you, so he can live the rest of his life with you. In your current state, you’re too mindless to find anything he does weird or scary so he truly doesn’t want you to change. You’re his now, he can’t let that go

Half-Demon! Tanjiro AU Masterpost
(This has been my comfort AU for a while)
I personally love the idea of Tanjiro having some properties of a demon, but he can still keep his humanity. So here are some details about the AU! (Keep in mind that I haven’t finished the manga)
In this AU, Tanjiro couldn’t fully cure his demon side even after defeating Muzan, but he was able to regain his humanity. His body changed quite a bit and some of the changes are:
He doesn’t need to eat people and he could use his blood to make other demons regain their humanity.
He can bring back dead demons by rebuilding them using their Blood Demon Art remnants
He can also turn people (both dead and alive) into half demons
However, he cannot bring back a human if their head was destroyed
And he can’t bring back demons that don’t have a Blood Demon Art
He can control water to fight off hostile demons and to defend himself. Tanjiro can also use it to heal people.
When he’s pissed, Tanjiro can turn water into fire and use it as a heatwave (he’s only done this once though)
Tanjiro grew quite a bit. Now he’s 6 feet and 4 inches tall
When he is ready for battle, his fangs and claws come out and his eyes become those of a demon.
When he isn’t fighting, he just looks like a normal human with tiny micro fangs.
When it comes to sunlight, he can go out in the daytime, but his skin is extremely sensitive. He can’t stay out for too long, otherwise he gets an extreme sunburn.
After every battle, he needs to regain his strength by sleeping.
Tanjiro can also purr! He usually does it when he’s happy, sick, or injured.
He will occasionally hold someone who is sick or injured close and purr so that they can heal faster
The power of the blood demon art gets halved when they become half demons. This has angered quite a few demons when Tanjiro tried to convert them
Tanjiro still prefers to use his sword in battle. He only uses his fangs and claws if he has to.
He’s quite cuddly and his bigger stature makes him a giant teddy bear
Demons can communicate using a language of growls (it’s really cute!) and now Tanjiro can do that too
They can also communicate telepathically with Tanjiro like Muzan was able to do
When demons suffer from panic attacks or get too flustered, they lose control of their voice and they start growling, roaring and crying
Half demons also have human disguises, so they can walk through villages with no suspicions
He is the new Demon King! It take him a minute to get the hang of it, but he figures it out!
Tanjiro also is incredibly proud of the demons who’ve made progress
Everything here applies to Nezuko too, except the height change, water powers, ability to bring back demons, and the role as Demon King
In this AU, Tanjiro and Zenitsu are dating while Inosuke and Nezuko are just vibing and doing their own thing.
Feel free to ask me any questions or have me write drabbles about the AU! If I get any questions, I’ll link them to this master post.

Can you rank human Ikegen characters based on their strength? Like real strength not emotional strength. Taking into account contracts with demons and being sort of half-blooded?
Yoshino will always be no. 1 because of how easily the guys are drawn to her. Even the demons. Hehe
So let me rank them based on both their physical strength and supernatural powers. Also, I'm not taking into consideration the 'hero's might' because it's not like their physical strength is increased when they change their appearance. So....
13. Akihito (without his curse)
So we all know that Akihito was cursed since his birth and only in his route, he breaks his curse and return to being a normal human being. Even though he can still use basic Kotodama and Ibuki's thunder (due to their contract) Akihito is not physically strong. He'd easily run out of breath after doing one attack. He doesn't have a well-trained body like a samurai, so it's understandable. So even though he has supernatural powers, he cannot use them for a longer duration. That's why he is at the bottom of the list.
12. Yoshino
Yes, I did joke about how Yoshino can seduce all the male leads and make them do what she wants. But seriously, Yoshino's powers may not look offensive. But they just annoying to deal with. It's very situational if you ask me. Yoshino's fox powers allow her to absorb demonic powers and give them to Tamamo. This annoying ability would basically force her opponents to stop using their supernatural powers and fight with normal swords. When she absorbs power from lower-level demons, they all easily die. High-level demons like Ibuki, Kurama, and Tamamo are not easily killed if she absorbs their powers. They are more likely left with an empty vessel and need time to regain their powers. That's why Yoshino is called the Trump Card of the Shogunate because she can use her powers to absorb Yoshitsune and Kurama's supernatural powers and leaving them with no other choice other than fighting with regular swords.
But Yoshino on her own cannot fight. She's not a samurai or anything so she is usually paired up with one of the male leads so they can protect her while she freely uses her power. But compared to Akihito (without his curse) she can stay on the field longer because she is more physically capable and won't get tired easily. Also not to forget, she can also use fox fire in certain situations. That's an offensive spell but she can only trigger it when she is pushed to the limit.
11. Kagetoki
Okay look, I know that Kagetoki is a samurai and he is not weak. He has mastered Iaido, which is a form of martial arts, that can get him through tough spots. But he is the type of guy who usually doesn't go to the front lines. He's more like a strategist, so we rarely get to see him fight in a battle. And even when he is fighting, they don't describe very well how strong he is. It's just a vague description that goes like this --- 'Kagetoki along with others also swings his sword' It's not elaborate like Yoshitsune or Morinaga. So that's why he's here in the 13th place. Also compared to the rest of the male leads, he doesn't work out that often and would sit in his room doing paper works for weeks without eating or sleeping. So he lacks in the stamina department.
10. Yoichi
Yoichi like Kagetoki, is not someone who usually goes to the front lines, because he's more of a support character. Yes, he can fight with a sword if he wants to but he's more comfortable using a bow and he is also gifted for that. Also, physical strength is another factor here. Since he is not always fighting with a sword, his technics can get a little clunky. So he needs someone to fight along with him. Of course, he trains every day, but not everyone can do everything. Yeah, if this was a list of 'Who is the best archer?' Yoichi will come at the top. No doubt.
9. Yoritomo
Okay, compared to Kagetoki and Yoichi, we do see Yoritomo fighting in the frontlines quite often and yes, he does put up a decent fight. But generally speaking, Yoritomo is never really known for his fighting skills unlike Yoshitsune (who is an actual demon on the battlefield). Yoritomo is trained by Morinaga, but even after that, I've never seen anyone giving him praise for his fighting skills as much as people do for his brains. Heck, even Tamamo asked at one point if Yoritomo can actually fight at all? But Yoritomo can fight decently enough. He can protect himself, he can protect Yoshino and his family on his own and as long as he can do that, he's good.
8. Shigehira
Now compared to Yoritomo, Shigehira is known for his fighting skills. He is even praised by both Yoshitsune and Benkei, saying that he's not a joke when it comes to fighting. In addition to swordsmanship, he knows pure martial arts (according to his profile) and can fight many trained soldiers on his own (has done it in his main story). On top of that, he trains every day, even on holidays, so he has great physical strength and stamina to stay longer on the battlefield. Too bad, my boi, doesn't have enough beef lol.
7. Yasuchika
Yasuchika is powerful when it comes to using his Onmyoji magic. He can summon demons, demon birds, open gateways to the demon world etc etc etc. At this point, I'm pretty sure he has already surpassed Seimei and basically is almost a god. I mean he can do anything. But I think that Yasuchika is like a glass cannon. Yes, he can do destructive things with his magic but when it comes likes like Yoshitsune, he won't stand a chance. He would be beheaded before he could cast even any spell. He's not a fighter because he's not a samurai and we have never actually seen him doing hand-to-hand combat or anything, that's why he could be easily knocked down if he doesn't prepare beforehand. For example, when the Imperial Court trio doing something, they usually need to buy some time to prepare everything beforehand. If they are going to do something big, Yasuchika needs time to cast his spells. So in that way, he's no joke. But yeah, he's a glass cannon after all.
6. Benkei, Sueharu and Morinaga
Yeah, I'm cheating here, but I think these three are equally strong. First of all, let's get Sueharu out of the way because there is not much info to talk about him. But I believe he is very strong and is said to rival someone like Morinaga and Morinaga himself admits that Sueharu is very strong since he was a kid. We don't get to see too many fighting scenes of Sueharu, but in the ones we got, he looks super badass. He's fast, he's strong and can kill people in a matter of seconds. It's in Akihito's route we see him actually putting up some kind of fight.
Benkei, as a samurai, trains a lot and also has superhuman strength because of his Oni blood. He can throw big heavy rocks onto enemies, he recovers fast, has a lot of stamina, and can take many opponents at once...basically a defense wall of the Rebels. Before he became Yoshitsune's right hand, he went around challenging many samurai and won and as a prize took their swords. Until now, he has fought, won and secured 999 swords. Though he looks to be strongest, he actually isn't. Because when he went to challenge the 1000th samurai to complete his sword collection, he lost. That samurai he lost to, was the young Shanao (a.k.a Yoshitsune). So currently he's the 2nd strongest if we exclude Kurama.
Morinaga hands down is the strongest of the Shogunate. If Benkei is the defense wall of the Rebels, Morinaga is the defense wall of the SHogunate. He has godly stamina, physical strength, and swordsmanship skills. He's more reckless than Benkei. If you have read the main story, then you'd understand. When he was young he was already able to fight wild animals on his own. As he got bigger, he can now fight demon birds. Yasuchika's demon birds have nothing on him. He can easily fight them off and make them his dinner if he wants to (I'm not exaggerating, it's in his main story)
5. Yoshitsune
Yeah, this guy is a freaking monster on the battlefield. When you play Yoshitsune route, in the very first chapter, the Shogunate gang tells us how terrifying Yoshitsune is on the battlefield to the point that he can literally change the tide of a battlefield. This is because Yoshitsune is ready to put himself in any kind of danger to make an opening for his army. If he dies, he doesn't care. On top of that, he has a natural talent for fighting. He was also trained by Kurama from a very young age. He is physically strong, flexible, has godly stamina and speed and not to mention, he also has Kurama's supernatural powers. It took Yoshitsune only one night to master Kurama's wind blades. Also, when he uses Kurama's powers, he is the only one whose eyes and hair don't change completely. We only see his one eye turn red and he has Kurama's tattoo on his neck, unlike Akihito and Yoshino who changes completely. It's not like he cannot change his hair and eye color completely, he has done it at the end of his main route to rescue Yoshino. So my theory is that he only uses half of his supernatural powers because he already is pretty strong. If without using any supernatural powers, he can defeat people like Benkei at a very young age, you can only imagine how strong he is by now. What? Yasuchika?...Well, before he could even cast his so-called spells, Yoshitsune can easily out-speed him and chop off his head. So yeah, they made him as much op as possible and I think that's cool.
4. Akihito (with his curse)
Akihito is not a fighter like Yoshitsune and I'm not telling he can overtake Yoshitsune by using kotodama on him. Yoshitsune can easily break through his kotodama, if he has enough willpower. I feel like Akihito (with his curse) is an annoying opponent to deal with like Yoshino. That's because Akihito's body is like a vessel to his curse. So if someone stabs or slices Akihito's body, the curse will all spill out and run amok. The curse would find another vessel a.k.a body. So yeah, he may not be physically strong but we cannot kill him either. So in that sense, I wanted to put him above Yoshitsune.
Okay, I have to put the demons at the top of the list because of their immortality and limit to how much a human can do. I also don't know how higher-level demons die in this game. Also, this already confirmed that based on raw strength----
3. Tamamo
Tamamo is best at casting spells and foxfire to defeat his enemies. He used to be Fox King in the demon world and annihilated the whole Tengu clan single-handedly only leaving Kurama. I've never seen him using any other weapons to fight, although there is a sword hanging on his waist, he just generally uses foxfire and kotodama. The only thing that is holding him back from going all out is his lack of motivation to fight.
2. Kurama
Kurama is more offensive than Tamamo. Since he's Tengu, they are generally known to be very fast and attack from the sky using wind blades and hurricanes. Usually, Kurama uses his iron fan to generate wind blades but he can also fight with a sword. I mean he was the one who trained Yoshitsune so it should be obvious that he's great at that too. Like Yoshitsune, Kurama is also super fast, super flexible, and has very good superhuman strength. But like he said, he has yet to surpass Ibuki.
1. Ibuki
Do I have even to say it at this point? Ibuki is currently the strongest character. I mean he's the fucking Demon King! Of course, he's very powerful and he has proved it many times. If he wants he can single-handedly wipe the whole Shogunate and the Rebels without much effort, even without using his supernatural abilities. He has seen to be crushing Kurama in Kurama's main route without much effort and that's only using half of his powers. You see, in this game when a demon makes a contract with a human, they share half of their powers with them. So currently, Tamamo, Kurama, and Ibuki only have half of their power. Keeping this in mind, Ibuki can easily defeat some of the strongest characters in this game. Even his superhuman strength is greater than Benkei's. The only thing that would somewhat be a hindrance to him is Yoshino's fox powers, but he can overtake her by using his physical strength, so basically he's almost invincible. Maybe Yasuchika could defeat him, but then again, Yasuchika needs some kind of shield to protect him from Ibuki's physical attacks.
There you have it!

BATDR self insert time!!
Radio Static!
I actually blatantly favour her...seeing as this was made after BATDR came out and my immense love for this game and its content grew. So she technically has three forms. (Though I am still working out the kinks for the second one, I have a design for it...I just hate it).
Starting with her cartoon design!
I will admit it took way too much brain power and effort for me to animate this...but my goal is to eventually have a "select your player" with each stage of Radio. But now let's try and describe this little demon.
-> I really love the idea of Bendy having a large extended family just for the sake of holiday specials. As stated in her character description, she was made for a new years special and the release of a new sing-along album. Her whole design was based around an old companion radio (hence the ear dials to control her volume, which is used in her episode as a funny joke trope. As well as the sound of her voice not actually coming out of her mouth, but actually the 'speakers' on her torso. She also gets the 'Static' part of her name from the fact that she runs on electricity.)
-> not much else other than to say, her eye glows. Why? Don't ask me, I just liked the idea of her eye glowing.
Now to move onto her final form! Her ink machine version! (As well as her human soul version, seeing as it's a self insert).
The whole idea is that her creator is the one who actually comes back to the studio after Arch takes over, seeing as she was an animator who initially worked on the old cartoons, and somehow is one of the few still alive and about (weird, where did the others go?). She somehow gets lured into the machine and becomes a character she had once designed. The final form is based on her human form getting so stuck in despair and anger that her ink solidifies and she becomes an uncontrollable monster within the world of ink.
(I like to imagine that she would eventually meet Eyfil, and this is the only coloured version of her that I had (in case you couldn't figure it out, Radio is the one on the balcony).
-> Radios ink monster form is strongly electrified. And because of her intense emotions, she can control any energy she can consume and transmit it to an electrical current.
-> however this power comes with mass amount of energy being consumed, so she will get very tired very quickly. If she uses too much electricity, she will just pass out and sleep it off. It's the slowest way for her to regain strength, but she just can't ever control it. Other ways of regaining her energy is to find any other source of electricity, like a broken active wire, or batteries, and consume that. The most effective way is to consume ink creatures, which to her is the equivalent of eating bacon soup, but she hates the way that they taste and will only go that route if she is desperate.
-> In the story I have built, when she first comes into the ink world, she is immediately captured by Wilson and thought to be a strange version of the ink demon. So she is brought and contained in an effort to make her 'non-lethal'. Essentially, they just lock her in a room and feed her ink every now and again. (This is how she meets @spotlightstudios self insert, The Siren, who is brought in a bucket and used as a sacrifice to Radio. It doesn't work, and Radio actually finds the bucket siren endearing and befriends her. Hence the start of their wonderful adventures. I won't get too into that right now, though)
All I have left is small doodles I have of Radio Static. This includes my initial ideas and thoughts about her cartoon design as well as the hated second form (which I refuse to go too deep into detail..) as well as small descriptions of each form.

Demon Slayer: Hating Sin, Loving the Sinner
I put this work in the hands of Mary, our Mother, so that she may make it pleasing to Jesus Christ
Philippians 4:8 “Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, gracious, if there is anything worthy of praise think of these things.”
What is this about? Well, I wanted to write down:
why I think Demon Slayer does a good job of contrasting Good and Evil, as well as Justice and Mercy.
maybe show how Christianity can confirm but also go beyond some of the themes presented in the work
P.S. This article is probably better understood if one has either seen the first season of the show or read the first 5 volumes of the manga.
First, disclaimers:
Originally a manga, the animation studio Ufotable made what I believe is a beautiful anime adaptation. As of 2022 the anime adaptation is incomplete. The story does have some graphic depictions of violence even if they are animated. I’ve seen a 17+ rating for the anime and while not an absolute rule, I think it’s a good starting place.
There will be of course plot spoilers in this commentary.
Now, the boilerplate:
Demon Slayer takes place in Taisho era Japan (i.e. A.D. 1912-1926). The premise is that there are powerful creatures called demons who eat humans. It may sound simple but that’s the beauty of it. These demons are only active at night as sunlight will disintegrate them. Demons possess super strength and rapid healing abilities for severe wounds. Some will have some type of magical power that becomes stronger the more humans they consume. Besides sunlight, demons can really only be killed by being decapitated with a Nichirin sword (a sword made out of a metal that has absorbed sunlight). I guess it’s still technically the sunlight that kills them. Pretty simple right?
Pretty early on we learn that there is actually only one demon who is creating all the other demons. The root is traced back to a single source. Also early on, Tanjiro, our protagonist, finds his family murdered and his sister, Nezuko, transformed into a demon but here’s the catch: after initially attacking him she recognizes her brother and stops.
After muzzling his demon sister, Tanjiro sets out to join the Demon Slayer Corp. (pretty self explanatory) with two goals in mind.
Find this original demon and kill him.
Find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human.
As the story progresses it’s mentioned that Nezuko’s body may have changed to regain energy from sleeping instead of eating humans. As such she sleeps during the day and sometimes comes out at night to help Tanjiro with his demon slaying job. A cute sibling dynamic.
Okay now to the good stuff.
I think what makes Demon Slayer so easy to approach is its simple story. Many times it feels like anime shows have crazy spiraling plotlines that never end. (I’m looking at you DBZ, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, etc...)
If we all enjoy a straightforward story, then what about Demon Slayer makes it so straightforward? I argue it is the strict dichotomy between good and evil that is portrayed throughout the show. I’m not sure where the idea “evil is always more complicated than we think” came from, but it’s a horrible one. Early on in the show, Tanjiro’s teacher, who understands Nezuko as an exception to demons, says that if she does ever kill anyone, Tanjiro must immediately kill her and then himself. Now I realize most of us can see the japanese honor code seeping through here but his mentor is making the point that right now she is in a quasi-demon state, if she should become a demon (i.e. by eating/attacking people) she is no longer your sister – kill her. We do not tolerate nor do we make exceptions for evil, we destroy it completely.
You might counter that since Nezuko was transformed into a demon why doesn’t Tanjiro or his teacher kill her now. You are raising a valid concern but I would respond that even though the disposition towards evil is within her it has not been carried out. Something the show points out in the fact she doesn’t eat or attack humans. We might say there is a concupiscence within her but it is not acted out in the will, it has been restrained (both physically and mentally).
To me, the clear presentation of good and evil is refreshing, especially if you’ve read a manga called Tokyo Ghoul, which is one that I actually wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Ghouls in that story are like the demons in Demon Slayer except they don’t die by sunlight, so they can do more human things. The protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul is made into a ghoul via surgery and instead of trying to become human again, the series progresses into a nebulous philosophy on the coexistence of humans and ghouls. The closest we get to this in Demon Slayer is a demon who used to be a doctor who has modified herself so that she only needs a little blood to survive. She also steps up to help Tanjiro find a cure to turn his sister back into a human presumably because she wants the same thing and not remain a demon forever!
Let’s talk about Justice and Mercy
And for this we need a little more story summary...
What I’ve said of Demon Slayer so far may have a “Joshua mowed down Amalek by the edge of his sword” or “Samuel hewed Agag to pieces before the Lord” type of vibe. And I know I said the strict division of humanity and demons is what I find refreshing but, the author (Koyoharu Gotōge) does a great job of contrasting Tanjiro’s hatred of evil with his overflowing love and charity. It gives off a sense of what I refer to as “Hating the sin, loving the sinner.”
During the Natagumo Mountain Arc there are two interactions I want to focus on.
Tanjiro killing the mother spider demon
Shinobu killing the sister spider demon
The first takes place in episode 16. The mother spider demon has killed numerous demon slayers. Upon seeing Tanjiro she realizes how much fear she lives in of Rui, the demon running the spider family, who himself kills any demon he is angry with. She thinks of trying to defend and kill Tanjiro but realizes that if she were to die she would be freed from her constant fear of death and abuse by Rui. What happens next is important:
She lowers her defenses and surrenders to Tanjiro’s attack.
Tanjiro sees this and switches his “Striking tide” attack to one called “Blessed rain after the drought” killing her painlessly.
Now it may seem obvious why people like this so much. It not only shows Tanjiro’s keen observation of details in the heat of battle and his ability to change forms mid strike, but it also shows his merciful side in choosing to deal out a painless death. But what can be overlooked here is that the spider demon still dies! Yes there is mercy, but no one - neither she nor Tanjiro - tries to make her crimes seem less than what they are.
The second interaction takes place in episode 20 where Kocho Shinobu, a high ranking demon slayer, confronts the sister spider demon. Unlike Tanjiro’s scene, this one has a bit more dialogue so I’ll provide a summary below.
1.) Spider demon once captured, begs for mercy and says Rui forced her to kill people
2.) When asked how many she killed, she lies saying "5, but I was forced to"
3.) Shinobu says she saw 14 other cocoons on the western side of the mountain, and
guesses the sister demon may have possibly killed 80 people
4.) Shinobu wants an accurate number so she’ll knows how severe a punishment to deal
out (note: she isn’t planning to kill the demon, but only punish for sins)
5.) She says if the demon goes unpunished the murdered people will go without justice
6.) After she’s suffered her sins will be forgiven, since she’s a demon she won’t die either
7.) Demon rejects this & retalitates. Shinobu says "I can see we'll never be friends"
8.) Shinobu kills her with venom instead of decapitation which may be more painful?
This drawn out conversation offers us more insight than Tanjiro’s encounter.. What we see here is a rejection of mercy because it comes packaged with justice. The demon is willing to admit she’s killed people but tries to pass it off as her being forced to. The old “I didn’t actually want to do those things.” There is a hope to get off easy because someone coerced her (so she claims). After being found out, she corrects the number to 14, but Shinobu again suggests this too is inaccurate. In order to be properly pardoned she needs to be punished for those she killed. Shinobu even mentions that since she’s a demon with regenerative powers she won’t die from this punishment and there won’t be any lasting sign either. There will be pain but the end will be better.
Perhaps this fills the demon with despair in that she is unable to foresee a good outcome among an arduous or painful path. It is also fair to say that some of the punishments Shinobu mentions are quite painful. Either way, she not only refuses but also retaliates. After realizing that the demon isn’t going to repent, Shinobu understands that the only thing she can do is kill her (subtitled dialogue from before “I can see we’ll never be friends”).

Note that “Sister Spider Demon” refused to do either of these properly, and it was because of this she lost her chance. How many of us have ever told the priest we’re not going to do our assigned penance and then expect him to grant us absolution? NONE! It is precisely the Christian message that through suffering we are purified and brought closer to God, who Himself suffered in the person of Jesus Christ! As is the case in most of the new testament, this refers to unjust suffering and affliction but it also refers to all suffering.
If Demon Slayer really takes place in our world’s Taisho era Japan, then Heaven and Hell are realties. And although we don’t necessarily have power to claim the final destination of these two souls, the evidence seems to suggest they’ll be in different places (or states if you prefer).
Mother spider demon accepts death without putting up a fight and is rewarded with a painless passing. Sister demon fights and once subdued begs for mercy only to lie and refuse the offer. She ends with what seems like a very painful death.
We must cast off our old self and die to ourself in order to gain life.
Finally a short note:
It is difficult for us humans, but it is the Catholic way to use a “Both/And” approach to many topics. There are many dangers in over emphasizing God’s Justice or His Mercy. But we know that properly seeing one gives illumination to the other. Only by fully understanding what we deserve from our sins can we rejoice in God’s mercy that much more. One example: Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus which stems from His Passion and Death is inherently linked with Devotion to His Divine Mercy.
Perhaps a few parting words could be thus:
Evil must be cut out from our lives and it can be painful most times
Even with all our sins, God offers us His gracious gift of mercy.
“Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” (Job 2:10)
Love the Sacrament of Penance since it brings us closer to the Most Blessed Sacrament

Reblogging my design for my OC, Akami. And also sharing a brief summary of her story. If any of you Twisted Wonderland fans read under the cut, I'm sure you can all guess who the horned boy's real name is ;) If Yuu (Player) calls him 'Tsunotaro', Akami calls Malleus Draconia 'Malle' 💚
Akami and Malleus' Backstory
It all begins with Malleus' grandmother - Queen Maleficia - creating two magic mirrors in hopes that Malleus can find his soulmate through them. One of the two mirrors is installed in Malleus' room while the other is sent to wherever his soulmate is located.
The second mirror ends up in Taisho Era Japan in a cave near a village surrounded by hills. This just so happens to be Akami's home and the cave is somewhere she frequents when she wants to play by herself.
One day, when she was 6, Akami found the mirror inside the cave. Her temari ball had bounced away from her while she was playing and went through the mirror. Akami followed it and ended up in Malleus' room in his world. Malleus was still a child at this point and, in spite of his initial shyness, befriends Akami and is invited to follow her into her world where they play outside until sunset. Upon going through the mirror, Malleus discovers that no time has passed in his world.
The next time Akami visits Malleus, she stays in his world until sunset as well and returns to her world to find that no time has passed.
For the next 12 years, the pair visit each other's worlds and grow closer as friends and eventually fall in love. Later, Malleus learns from his grandmother the purpose of the mirror. He reveals to Akami that they are soulmates on her 18th birthday and gifts her with a pendant that belonged to his mother, Meleanor.
Sadly, shortly after this, Akami's village is attacked by Muzan Kibutsuji and some of the Upper Rank Kizuki. Akami is turned into a demon by Muzan after slaughtering her family and everyone else in the village. When Akami regains consciousness, she nearly eats one of the bodies but stops herself and hides after burying her family.
Weeks later, Malleus visits Akami's world only to be attacked by a feral Akami who pushes him back through the mirror. In panicked self-defense, Malleus uses a fire spell on Akami when she lunges at him. The spell burns the left side of her face, leaving a permanent scar (as pictured in the right pic) due to the nature of fae fire.
Lilia and Maleficia burst into the room to find Malleus cornered by Akami, the latter in pain while the former tries to apologize. Maleficia sends Akami back to her world through a spell that also shatters the mirror, leaving Malleus unable to visit her world.
The knowledge that his soulmate has become a demon and that he hurt her causes Malleus to have a breakdown where his magic goes haywire to the point that it nearly destroys the entire palace. Maleficia puts him to sleep in the nick of time before sealing away his memories of Akami. Lilia is then tasked to remove anything Malleus may have received from her from his room.
Meanwhile, in her world, Akami regains her senses and tries to go back to Malleus and apologize for attacking him but her demonic strength accidentally shatters the mirror, leaving the two soulmates separated.
My Demon Slayer x Twisted Wonderland OC is here!
Here's artwork of my latest OC, Akami Tatsumi. She was originally a human but was turned into a demon shortly after she turned 18. First picture is her appearance when she was human while the second picture is after she was turned into a demon. She is able to rein in her demonic urges and gains strength from eating human food.
She ended up joining the Demon Slayer Corps about a year before Tanjiro and Nezuko. They first meet after the events on Mount Natagumo. She also meets Inosuke and Zenitsu and considers all four of them as friends.
Here's more info on Akami...
Birthday: July 19
Height: 175 cm
Favorite Food: Anything with red bean paste
Least Liked Food: Bitter Gourd
Breath Style: Love Breathing - she is the tsuguko of the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji
Taisho Era Secret: Akami was a very imaginative child. She often told her parents and older brother stories of another world she visited through a mirror she found in a cave close to the village where she lived. Her favorite stories to tell were always about a horned boy she called "Malle".

if you want and have time, could you pls do 7. „do you have any weakness?“ with switch!Tanjiro, switch!Tomioka and Ler! Muichiro??
The last one with Shinobu, Tomioka, Nezuko and Tanjiro was so cute Q^Q✨🤍. Remember to eat and drink! Take a break every now and then ^^!
Of course!!! And I’m glad you liked the last fic so much!! And yes, I eats and drinks and sleeps ^^...sometimes - > - ❤️💝
Do you have any weaknesses?
Summary: During a training session with Tanjiro and Tomioka, Muichiro makes a very interesting discovery.
It was a calm afternoon. The wind was light, and the sun was arise. Beaming its glory down unto the Butterfly Mansion. It wasn't hot, but it wasn't cold either. It was perfect.
Later in the day, Muichiro had nothing to do and decided to spend this free time training and continuing to get better and better. But of course, he needed an opponent.
He started to walk around the manor, through the garden, on the rock path, enjoying the flowers and the fauna, and that's when he found him.
Giyuu Tomioka.
He was the perfect training partner. He was swift, agile, and quite strong. He always knew what to do in a battle, so why not in a training session. Just a little refresher if he ever gets a last-minute mission.
"Hey, Tomioka?" Muichiro had said with a poke to Giyuu's side. Giyuu squeaked but immediately looked down, trying to regain the posture that he normally does, with his hand on his katana.
"What do you need Muichiro?" Giyuu had said with his straight face still remaining. But Muichiro was surprised at the expression that he had gotten out of Tomioka, but just brushed it off and continued to ask his question.
"Did you want to train with me? I just wanted to enhance my abilities to what I can at the moment." Muichiro questioned with his signature blank expression, looking up at the clouds.
"Sure. I'd never turn up an opportunity to expand your strength to it's limits." Tomioka answered with his face looking down at the ground."
When they were done conversing, they were met with no other than Tanjiro Kamado. He's a sweet-hearted kid who always does his best. Especially with a demon for a little sister. He works hard and pushes himself to his limits but always knows when he's had enough.
"Hey guys!... Can... I... Join you?" Tanjiro had said through pants. It was quite obvious that he had overheard the conversation and ran towards them to join them for the training session. And also tried Total Concentration.
"Sure, why not. You need to train as well if you ever want to defeat Kibutsuji." Muichiro stated to Tanjiro with a warming gaze.
And all three of them headed towards the training arc.
"So, what kind of training are we doing?" Tanjiro asked with question in his eyes.
"This will be similar to your rehabilitation training, Tanjiro." Muichiro said, looking at the two males, holding three wooden swords.
"We will be doing something similar to tag but this time, you can fight back. If you get hit by another person's sword that's not yours, you will be eliminated." He explained with serious eyes.
"Before we begin..." Muichiro interjected.
"Do you have any weaknesses?" He asked.
Both boys turned a light pink and immediately answered: "No."
"Good." Muichiro responded with a small smile.
"Surprisingly, Shinobu came up with this idea, and I agreed to it. It'll really help with our reflexes, but it's also really fun." Muichiro added, throwing a single wooden katana in their direction.
All three of the gentlemen got into their fighting stance and immediately jolted. There was no warning, no countdown. They all just... moved.
Tanjiro went for Tomioka, in hopes of beating him and getting him eliminated first, but he was too fast for Tanjiro. Tomioka quickly caught on and turned his focus to the red-haired boy and went to hit him straight towards his stomach, but Tanjiro blocked.
He had held both parts of the sword in his hands and blocked Tomioka's attack. He had then pushed Tomioka back just a bit, allowing them a good distance from each other.
"Good job Kamado." Giyuu had said, regaining his balance. and the game continued.
Muichiro then went for Tanjiro, who started with his first tactic: pressure points. His goal was to bring Tanjiro down to the ground or at least slow his speed. And he did just that.
There is one pressure point in the hip, that is built up of nerves. and that's exactly what Muichiro went for.
When Tanjiro attempted to lightly touch Muichiro with the sword, He immediately ducked and went for the pressure point.
Tanjiro jolted and lost focus, hitting the ground with a wince.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you!" Muichiro said with concerned eyes. He swiftly tried to help Tanjiro up on his feet to dust him off and help him regain his balance.
"Noho no it didn't hurt! it just tickled! Don't worry!!" Tanjiro said with comforting eyes. He got up and dusted himself off a few more times before grabbing his sword and getting back into his fighting stance.
"Alright! Let's continUHuie!!" His sentence was cut off with a poke to his side.
"You're ticklish, correct?" Muichiro had asked Tanjiro with mirth in his eyes. Tanjiro was a bit shocked and frightened at the question but answered anyway.
"Y-Yes. Yes, I am ticklish." Tanjiro answered in every last drop of confidence he could muster. Muichiro just stared at him. Letting the anticipation rise in him. Then he turned to Giyuu.
He gave Giyuu the same poke that he gave Tanjiro, and Giyuu jumped. he didn't laugh, he didn't smile, (Well he tried not to smile) he just jumped with a squeak. The same squeak Muichiro had heard when he poked him earlier.
"So you both are ticklish, am I right?" Muichiro asked, looking back and forth between the two gents.
Giyuu didn't say a word. Neither did Tanjiro.
"I see." Muichiro said looking quite irritated. In the blink of an eye Tanjiro's wrists were above his head, and his feet were bonded by Muichiro's knees.
"I asked you two if you had any weaknesses. And there's a penalty for lying to me." Muichiro said with a wide grin. And with that, He dug into Tanjiro's underarms in a swift-moving motion. It wasn't rough, but it wasn't gentle either. But boy did it tickle.
"WAIT! Waihihit!! Muichihihiro!!!" Tanjiro immediately burst into a puddle of giggles shaking his head back and forth. He had no problem when it came to tickling. He used to tickle his siblings all the time! and he would tickle them back!
"I told you, you'll have to pay a price!" Muichiro said with a sweet smile.
"Ihihi'm SOHOHohohorry!!!" Tanjiro's smiling and giggling grew when Giyuu started scribbling against his sides like his life depended on it. Sure, he'd been restrained before, but only being able to move your head?! Pure torture!!
Muichiro finally stopped his attack on Tanjiro and moved onto Giyuu, viciously squeezing his thighs.
"MUIHIHICHIROHOHO QUIHIHIT IHIT!!!" Giyuu screamed out. How did he even know that was his worst spot?! At this point, Giyuu couldn't contain his laughter or his giggles OR his smile. He was too fast for him to pull his hands away.
"This penalty goes for you too Tomioka!! In fact..." Muichiro resumed his attack on Tanjiro AND Giyuu at the SAME TIME!! each in different places. He had finally stopped when he heard wheezing coming from both of the boys.
"Training was fun today! I hope we can train again sometime!!" Muichiro said with a smile and a wave.
"So, your hips too huh?" Giyu asked playfully. "Honestly, I didn't even know." Tanjiro answered.
A/N: AAAAAAAA I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCHHHH I THINK ITS MY LONGEST BUT ITS ALSO MY FAVORITEE TYSM FOR THIS ASK!!!

If Tanjiro also sleeps for long periods of time in order to regain his strength, would it mean that Inosuke would feel the need to stay close by where he's resting until he wakes up? Since no other demon has ever done something like that before, would it cause him to worry and think something's wrong?
It’s not that Inosuke thinks there’s anything wrong with him, but yes he does worry because it makes Tanjiro very vulnerable. See, at first Inosuke kind of hates his ability to sleep to regain energy because it technically makes him more powerful than Inosuke, who does need to eat to get stronger. When they start falling in love, Inosuke’s jealousy shifts to fascination, but after spying on a battle between some lowly demon and Nezuko that knocked Tanjiro out of his box, he quickly realized that sleeping also makes Tanjiro more susceptible to being attacked.
From then on, Inosuke does take to watching them when he knows Tanjiro is asleep. There’s not much he can do since he doesn’t want to get caught by Nezuko and Zenitsu, but his instincts tell him he needs to protect Tanjiro anyway. It doesn’t happen often, but Inosuke does feel very, very protective of him. Tanjiro thinks it’s really sweet when he finds out, and offers to do the same if Inosuke ever needs to sleep too :)

Who is Kinie Ger in Jujustu Kaisen AU?
Kinie Ger is Taz’s demon ( where the default version is where her older brother makes a contract with to give her powers and to protect her. ) In this verse, Kinie Ger was sealed within Taz since she is born because of ascentry and through reincarnation.
Note: Whether it is default or verse, this here is for information when roleplaying with rp characters from jujutsu kaisen. Still trying to figure this out. But please feel free to give me advice, suggestion or ask me any questions regarding this post.
Based on the stories origin 1 and origin 2 that gives me inspiration.
Not much different from the default version, Kinie Ger is a devil that preys on innocents especially stronger ones to hunt for their meat.
Kinie Ger is a quoll hybird monster. Half-man and half-quoll. She cannot remember how she came to be but knows that she is born from the dark magic of the dark shamans. After hunting down so many for her own bloodlust, a crow shaman and owl shaman seals her away into a human being, tying her to a human soul to keep the monster sealed. But ever since she was sealed by shamans back in her homeland, her diet was changed. In this case, instead of flesh and bone, it’s cursed energy to keep her awake. Whether it’s cursed spirits, Jujustu sorcerers, and curse users, she must eat them to maintain and regain strength making sure her hunt continues.
Kinie Ger was within Taz as her vessel since Kinie Ger is passed down to many generations, moving across the world because of her ancestry dated back in Australia many centuries ago or was reincarnted into the same soul over centuries. Nobody knows what happened during her time. But Kinie Ger appears a few times in other regions of the world as history goes on. But as quickly as she wakes up, she goes back to sleep after a feast.
Today in the modern world, the vessel fell to Taz who unknowingly required this ancient demonic cursed spirit. When she came to Tokyo with her friends on a vacation, Kinie Ger begins to stir in its sleep when sniffing out the amount of cursed energy. It’s time to feast.
Abilities:
Demonic Possession - Taz and Kinie swaps bodies together. Taz who has two yellow marks on her right cheek. With Kinie Ger, orange marks appeared on both sides of her cheek, on her arms and legs. She has white lines on her back and around her neck. Unlike Taz’s cheerful and innocent nature, Kinie Ger is aggressive and almost feral, living out her desires.
Supernatural Strength - Can easily tear and break bones and rocks.
Supernatural Speed - Kinie Ger can run up and travel to 15 miles per hour since she’s a demonic quoll.
Spear Master - Just like the legends, Kinie Ger masters the spear as her weapon. It is extension of herself.
Excellent Climber - Kinie Ger is good at climbing and scale trees and buildings with ease.
Night vision - Kinie Ger has good eyesight especially for the night time.
Super Senses - Kinie Ger is good at sniffing out cursed energy and differentiate which ones are the weakest and the strongest. She can also pick up sounds as well.
Curse Eater - Kinie Ger eats in order to replenish her own energy. This is her strength and also her weakness. If she can’t consume any cursed energy or doesn’t have enough energy within 1 hour and 30 minutes, she will be put back to sleep and Taz will regain control. Therefore, she saves her cursed energy over time. Using curse energy can make her sleepy. She uses cursed manipulation to conjure up spears, her own dark shikigami, and transforms into a monster. The more she eats, the more powerful she becomes and she stays awake.
Jujutsu Curse Techniques:
Dark Spear - Kinie Ger’s favorite weapon is the spear conjured up of her own cursed energy. She is the master of the spear when she was human and such.
Dark Boomerang - Long range weapon that she can throw. Just like a real boomerang, this curved flat weapon when thrown comes back to the wielder. Anyone in its way will be cut.
Storage Space - Since Kinie Ger used to be a marsupial, she has a special storage to accommodate five items to save. The items are in her innate domain.
Tribe from the Plains; Kinfolk: Kinie Ger has the ability to conjure shikigami in the form of her fellow shadowy quoll man monsters carrying sticks. These feral creatures go wild and their main directive is to hunt down enemies. Kinie Ger can command with the order to hunt and capture such as hunting down cursed spirits and taking it to her. However, these shikigami are Grade 3 level to Semi Grade 2. They are fast but not too durable as they are used for surprise attacks and distraction.
Feeder In The Dream: Kinie Ger can attack anyone in their dreams when asleep. Of course she can’t kill them since she needs cursed energy to be released so she feeds it on. Her attacks can leave cursed injuries. This happens when anyone staying in the same room as Taz when the prey falls asleep. However it only depends how strong it is.
Totemic Beast: Kinie Ger uses her cursed energy to build an armor or rather form outside transforming into a huge a quoll-like monster as big as an elephant. This monster has smoky black fur, red tribal red marks around its glowing yellow eyes, and orange-white spots on its fur. In this form, she can go on a rampage and can morph into a ball to bulldoze anything that stands in her way.
Domain Expansion: Kinie’s domain expansion can be formed two ways.
1. Great Tasmania Plains
The first one can be a bubble where the environment is changed to the plains with tall grass and trees where there is the red sky with a yellow sun. Using the shikigami, it is guarantee hit but for Kinie Ger’s sick pleasure. She makes it 90% guarantee hit while 10% miss to give her prey some leeway just to make the hunt more fun. Giving them a handicap. This exhausts her after using it. This is the normal expansion.
2. Maxiumun Techinque: Dreamtime Plains
The second form is much more dangerous after experimenting. This is separating the soul from the body and transports the soul into her innate domain, sending the body to sleep while the soul is awake in her own mirror world. This can exhaust Kinie Ger greatly, draining up cursed energy and it lasts 10 minute. This is used to trap her strongest prey in and makes sure to kill ( or devour ) them before the time limit is up. To activate it, she has to touch the other's soul to do so.
She likes to trick her prey into thinking they’re awake but they’re not. Anything hurts the soul can hurts the body once it is send back. But it is not always the case.
However Kinie Ger possessing Taz’s body is also vulnerable since Taz can wake up or is sleeping.
In the default version:
Taz is switched with Kinie Ger whenever she senses massive amounts of dark energy. Kinie Ger’s purpose to cursed energy? Is to devour and hunt for more game!
Kinie can be aggressive with her hunt and hates anyone interrupting her.

This month’s Animage article was quite loaded with 6 pages of content. It consisted of an illustration with Kohaku and Hisui (2 pages), an interview with Kimura Ryōhei and Urao Takehiro (2 pages), and an interview with Uru (2 pages). That being said, this translation has been split into two parts.
Part 1: Interview with Kimura Ryōhei and Urao Takehiro Part 2: Interview with Uru

The Demon Slayers Have Arrived!
While butting heads with each other, the strength of unity between Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha slowly increases. Watching over and supporting those three girls are the uncle and nephew demon slayer combo.
Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha return to the feudal era from the modern Reiwa era. Lately, they have been slaying more demons together. In episode 5, they defeated one of the “Four Perils”, Tōkotsu; in episode 6, they subdued the demon cats nesting in the old temple. Each has a different goal: Towa’s is to break the spell of the “Dream Butterfly” cast upon Setsuna, Setsuna’s is to fulfill her duties as a demon slayer, and Moroha’s is to defeat demon bounties in order to pay off her debt. However, from spending time together, their teamwork seems to be slowly improving.
Supporting the girls’ efforts are demon slayers Kohaku and Hisui. The two of them show concern for Towa and the others by doing things like taking care of Towa who came from the modern era or providing hints to Setsuna on demon subjugation. Especially Kohaku who has relations with their parents in that he joined forces with them to defeat Naraku. Given that, that could be more reason why he pays attention to the girls. Starting from the reason why the Tree of Ages requested the three girls to “Defeat Kirinmaru and Sesshōmaru” to the existence of Rin sleeping within the Tree of Ages, the circumstances surrounding the three girls is full of mystery. Surely Kohaku and Hisui’s existence will become of help to the girls as they overcome trials.
(Character Bios)
Kohaku When he was a boy, it was said that he “Wasn’t suited to be demon slayer” but now he serves as the head of the clan. He was the one who accepted Setsuna as a demon slayer.
Hisui Miroku and Sango’s child and a demon slayer who fights with Hiraikotsu as his weapon. He did not know Setsuna was a half-demon until he was told by Kaede in episode 3.
Higurashi Towa In order to free her younger sister, Setsuna, from the spell of the Dream Butterfly, she returns to the feudal era. Due to having lived in the modern era for so long, she is somewhat hesitant about fighting demons.
Setsuna A demon slayer who had her sleep and childhood memories stolen by the Dream Butterfly. While she pushes away her elder sister, Towa, who for some reason involves herself with her, she also seems to be concerned for her (Towa).
Moroha In order to repay her debt, she bounty hunts. When she puts on rouge, she becomes “The Country Destroying Beniyasha” and displays unparalleled strength but she falls asleep less than a minute later.
Miroku A monk who previously traveled with Inuyasha. Defeating Naraku, the Wind Tunnel in his right hand disappeared. After the battle, he married Sango and became the father to three children which includes Hisui.
Sango Kohaku’s older demon slayer sister. She previously traveled with Inuyasha and her weapon at the time was Hiraikotsu. She had three children with Miroku: Kin’u, Gyokuto, and Hisui.
That Kohaku Became a Dignified Adult
The Role of Kohaku: Kimura Ryōhei “Kohaku is a character that also appeared in “Inuyasha” but he matured well. When one’s impression of him changes this much, I don’t have to keep Akko-san (Yajima Akiko who voiced Kohaku in his boyhood) in mind so he’s easier to play which is nice. As of now, he has the impression of an adult who doesn’t get into a tight spot or loses composure. They handle him with dignity so I think I can play him without worry.“ (translator’s note: Not sure if I translated that last sentence correctly…)
Kohaku During His Boyhood
Sango’s younger brother. He lost his life to Naraku’s trap but was revived with the power of the Shikon Jewel shard. At first, he was being controlled by Naraku but he regained his memories later on.
Kohaku and Sesshōmaru’s relationship
In the story of “Inuyasha”, Kohaku was always in danger of demons targeting the Shikon Jewel shard. At one point, Sesshōmaru saves Kohaku who had been captured by Byakuya of the Mirage and afterwards, Kohaku accompanies Sesshōmaru on his travels. Normally Sesshōmaru does not get close to others but he did not object to Kohaku travelling with him. It could be that to Sesshōmaru, Kohaku was someone that he could allow to stay near him.
What Did He Inherit from His Father, Miroku?
The Role of Hisui: Urao Takehiro “While Hisui is a little older than Setsuna and the others, he has quite a calm impression. It’s just that he is still young, so he has an unknowing and inexperienced side to him. His uncle is teaching him in that regard. I think Hisui’s strong personality resembles his mother, Sango. The lecherous side of his father, Miroku, hasn’t appeared in Hisui yet so I wonder what I’ll do if he has that kind of a side to him (laughs).”
The Reliable Uncle and the Inexperienced Nephew
— From the start, what sort of impression did you have of the work, “Inuyasha”?
Urao: I’m definitely part of the “Inuyasha” generation. I think I was in upper elementary school when “Inuyasha” started broadcasting. I really liked it and I would watch it every week while eating dinner. The first CD I ever bought with my own allowance was V6’s “CHANGE THE WORLD, Inuyasha first opening song” too.
Kimura: I think I was in high school at the time, so I was right on the cusp of the age for watching anime on a daily basis. I felt it was about time I moved on. It’s just that in regard to “Inuyasha”, it left the impression that it was a work that could be enjoyed not just by kids but also by high schoolers and older. In addition to it being the work of Takahashi Rumiko-san, the creator of my absolute favorite “Ranma ½”, I was working in the industry at the time but I enjoyed it as a viewer.
— Which character left an impression on you?
Urao: My favorite was Shippō. In any case, he’s cute. At the time, I was a real scaredy cat so whenever the demon battles began, I would always look away from the screen (laughs). Within that, Shippō was a comforting existence. I also liked the romantic comedy, so I enjoyed watching the exchanges between Miroku and Sango.
Kimura: The one who left an impression on me was Naraku. At a glance, he didn’t really feel like a final boss. When you look at Sesshōmaru, you know “This guy is strong”. But with Naraku, it’s like “Is this guy strong? What?!”. He could probably win in a fist fight but that air that he has of not allowing you to punch him is something I actually found creepy.
— The current work continues the world of “Inuyasha” but apparently, you were offered the role rather than auditioning for it.
Urao: I was extremely happy. I knew the work, “Hanyō no Yashahime” was being created before it was discussed with me so I was looking forward to it as a regular viewer. It was then that I was asked to play Hisui and I was really surprised and honored.
Kimura: I didn’t know that they were moving forward with this work so I was all the more surprised (laughs). It’s not often that you get to be involved in an anime that you watched as an average viewer during your childhood, so I was happy. I had a connection with Rumiko-san from a previous work called “Kyōkai no RINNE” so I’m thankful that I get to have another connection via this work of completely different nature. If I had to say, though they’re the same in that they’re works by Rumiko-san, “Ranma ½” and “Kyōkai no RINNE” left a strong comedic impression. However, I was very excited to take part in the fantasy adventure world that is “Inuyasha”.
— How did you feel about the concept of “Continuing the world of “Inuyasha”, drawing the story of the next generation”
Kimura: Continuing a great work is exceedingly difficult so I don’t think it’s something that should be done at a moment’s notice. It’s just that “Inuyasha” was a big hit work that was drawn by the famous artist, Takahashi Rumiko. It was watched by many and loved for a long time. If the staff who created a work of that level decided to do a continuation, there’s no way they could create something half-hearted. Upon receiving talks, I just reminded myself to that level on my own and thought “It will definitely be okay!”
Urao: The generation that watched “Inuyasha” in real time are now adults and there are some that have children. That’s why I think “Hanyō no Yashahime” is a work that can be enjoyed by two generations. Adults can watch a new story together with the kids while explaining to them “”Inuyasha” was this kind of story”. I’m hoping I will be able to assist that kind of work. Actually when episode 1 aired, my high school senpai contacted me saying “I’m about to watch it with my son”.
— That’s a wonderful story. When playing the roles of Kohaku and Hisui, do you keep in mind Kohaku’s boyhood days in “Inuyasha” or Miroku and Sango who are Hisui’s parents?
Kimura: Actually, I don’t keep that in mind one bit.
— I see.
Kimura: For example, even if I were to keep Akko-san (Yajima Akiko who voiced Kohaku in his boyhood) in mind, if asked if I could come near that, the answer would be no (translator’s note: not too sure I got the translation of this sentence right). It’s just that when I was told that Akko-san said “Oh my~ he’s become a fine man”, I was relieved. I’m glad she didn’t think “Tsk!” (laughs).
Urao: I completely mindful of that! Especially in episode 2 when shouting while throwing Hirakotsu; I recorded the voice of Kuwashima Hōko-san (the role of Sango) saying “Hiraikotsu” and the whole time I was riding the train, I listened to it and did image training.
Kimura: I see. It certainly is something like a signature move.
Urao: First, I thought I needed viewers to acknowledge “Hirakotsu!”. Also, since the image of Miroku being able to calmly assess and explain the situation was strong, I’m really conscious of that in explanation scenes. I rewatched the anime and researched the way he spoke.
Kimura: There’s a lot of scenes where Kohaku and Hisui give explanations on demons while splitting lines (amongst themselves).
Urao: Indeed.
Kimura: Kohaku and Hisui probably meet up beforehand. Something like “I’ll explain up to here” (laughs).
Urao: Responding “Then I’ll explain the next (part)” is something they might be doing (laughs).
— How do you view each other’s characters?
Urao: Kohaku has always been a person who’s known that he was being manipulated and yet still moved in secret; but I also got the impression that he had a strong heart. It means that Ryōhei-san is playing someone like him and it’s really reassuring. As an average viewer of “Inuyasha”, I’m deeply moved that “He’s become a reliable man!” and as Hisui, I feel that “He’s a reliable uncle.” Calling him “Uncle Kohaku” felt kind of fresh (laughs).
Kimura: The impression I got from Hisui was “He’s a good young man.” Although I can say the same for the main three and not just Hisui. At the beginning, I wondered how Kohaku and Hisui would balance out but thanks to the scenario, lines, and Urao’s acting, it became “While he’s gaining experience as a demon slayer, there’s still a part of him that’s inexperienced.” That’s why I was able to grasp the balance between the two naturally instead of being strangely conscious of it. I became convinced of this in episode 2 in their first appearance scene.
He Can’t Use Any Other Weapon? Hisui Is Still in the Midst of Growing (as a demon slayer).
— Next, please tell us your impressions of Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha.
Urao: Even though they were raised in the feudal era, all of them have some “modern era girl” touch to them. Like the chattering ambiance (laughs). Also, I think each of them has an aspect that they inherited from their parents. Setsuna is the daughter of Sesshōmaru; you can feel that Moroha is Inuyasha’s daughter; Towa’s easygoing aspect gives you the sense that she was raised by Sōta.
Kimura: In a sense, Towa is the hardest to grasp. I think that gives her that protagonist feel.
— You feel she is hard to grasp?
Kimura: She’s full of energy and has an overflowing sense of justice but she has moments where you don’t know what she’s thinking. There, other characters and the readers get tied up… I think you see that a lot in protagonists of thrilling shōnen manga. I think Towa has that sort of precarious aspect. Heck, a modern middle schooler going back to the feudal era; that’s when you think something’s wrong with them (laughs). However, the story won’t progress if you don’t have that and it’s because they’re like that that they can remain the protagonist. Setsuna is cool and of few words but it’s easy to see what she’s thinking. I think the energetic Moroha is the easiest to understand.
Urao: My favorite of the three is Moroha. I can really feel that she inherited Inuyasha’s blood. Like how she’s a little hasty and the way she talks.
Kimura: The way Moroha’s voice actress, Tadokoro-san (Azusa), skillfully plays her is nice. Listening to her talk at a nice tempo feels good. Also, the voice actress for Setsuna, Komatsu-san (Mikako) is able to properly incorporate a sense of inexperience to a character that is prone to appearing boorish; I thought that’s her for yah. With this work, this is my first time working with Matsumoto-san (Sara) who plays the role of Towa and she’s good at acting! During today’s test recording when she said the line “Setsuna!” she got directed once, but the “Setsuna” in the actual recording came out sounding good like bam! I feel something like a synergy effect as the three work each other up which I think is splendid. It seems that the three cast members get along really well too.
Urao: The three of them act wonderfully don’t they. Just, I wonder why Setsuna is somewhat cold towards Hisui (laughs). As of now, Hisui calls Setsuna’s name the most but she looks away from him a lot… I hope they can close the distance between them moving forward!
— Kohaku and Hisui’s role is sort of like a guardian to Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha right.
Kimura: That’s right. It’s like the two of us are watching over the three girls.
Urao: We are sending them to slay demons after all. Hisui should’ve gone with them (laughs).
— In episode 5, due to Hiraikotsu not being effective on the demon they were taking on, Hisui had to stay behind.
Kimura: You know, Hisui is a pro so make him be able to use other weapons! What is he going to do when he doesn’t have Hiraikotsu on hand! (laughs)
Urao: You’re right (laughs). He might get more from here on. He is in the middle of growing (as a demon slayer)!
— Hisui’s development from here on is something to look forward to (laughs). Today (at time of the interview) is right after the televising of episode 1 but Urao-san was posting live on social media. You reacted to the line “Don’t cry Hisui~”
Urao: That’s the line that Hisui’s older twin sisters (Kin’u and Gyokuto) said. Hisui was still a cute baby!
Kimura: They seem strong if they fight as twins. I wonder when the grown-up sisters will show up. Could it be that they’re part of the demon slayer team?
Urao: I’m sure they will make an appearance. The content within episode 1 made “Inuyasha” fans very happy. You could feel the “Inuyasha”-ism everywhere. For example, the program sponsor background image, heads mercilessly flying off, and the background music that makes you go “When this music plays, the demon can be defeated”; everything was nostalgic.
— Yasumura Makoto’s role as Miroku was a topic of discussion as well.
Urao: I was moved. He played the role he inherited from Tsujitani Kōji-san (played the role of Miroku in “Inuyasha”) with great respect. He made me think it was actually Miroku and as his son, I got fired up even more.
— Lastly, please give us your thoughts on the illustration of Kohaku and Hisui published in this month’s issue.
Kimura: Both of them look so reliable!
Urao: Yeah, they look cool. When I see them like this, they really look alike. Uncle Kohaku has a big scar on his nose but I wonder if the one who gave him that scar will make an appearance in the future? The freckles he had as a kid are gone too which is impressionable.
— In the future, is there a situation you would like to see in a copyright image?
Kimura: This is a staple but Kohaku and Hisui in swimsuits?
Urao: (laughs) For me, I want to see the whole family lined up. Like a family photo with the parents, Hisui, the older sisters, and Uncle Kohaku.
Kimura: I like that! The family getting together doesn’t seem like something we’ll get to see much in the actual show. Also, I might want to see the two’s desperate expression. As of now, Kohaku and the others have an air of composure about them; it would be nice to see their forms in action. I’m sure something like a strong enemy will appear and the figures of them fighting valiantly will be drawn in the show. However, there are three protagonists, so our turn probably won’t be for a while (laughs).
Which scene up to episode 6 left an impression on you?
Kimura: Mistress Three Eyes that Nabatame-san (Hitomi) played was scary. She was a formidable foe. She looked just like the demon that first appeared in “Inuyasha”; it was amusing that they continued that.
Urao: Apparently, she’s the grandchild of Mistress Centipede.
Kimura: That confirms a second and third generation. The part where “That thing also had children!” is surprising too though (laughs).
Urao: For me, it had to be the scene where Hisui and Kohaku make their first appearance that left an impression. To think the day would come where I could ride Kirara and throw Hiraikotsu… I was deeply moved like we’ve crossed over eras.
Kimura: Even if you encounter a wonderful new work, it’s not often that you get to experience the same things the people playing the characters in the wonderful preexisting work felt.
Which character are you curious about?
Urao: Kirinmaru who has that mastermind aura. How is he going to move from here on?... There’s a person named Kirin Osamu-sensei in the modern era too so I’m curious as to the relationship between that.
Kimura: There’s no way that that’s the only screen time Hosoya-san (Yoshimasa who plays Kirinmaru) is getting. There’s this feeling of expectation that he will appear again.
Urao: Yeah
Kimura: Not only is there a chance that his existence is connected to the feudal era, but maybe there’s a possibility that he’s actually someone’s descendant? Well, we know absolutely nothing about the scenario ahead so we can just say whatever about the (plot) progression from here on (laughs).

First fan fic: It takes place right after "Through the Looking Glass Ruins" and it involves a post I did on my other blog about how the Owl House gang would react.
Sneaking into Amity's Heart
Luz didn't know how long she stayed outside the Blight Manor, but when she finally regained her strength, she started to head back home.
Meanwhile, at the Owl House, Eda and King were relaxing from a tiring day of their own. They took turns comforting Hooty, who was still grieving Lilith's departure and stopped him from going to the Clawthorne house to see Lilith.
"I'm calling couch!" King said.
"No way freeloader. This is my house so I'm calling the couch," Eda replied.
"But you got it last night!"
"So?"
"You have a nest! I don't have anything to sleep on!"
"You sleep with Luz! You have a better sleeping thing than I do!"
"You'll have to fight me for the couch!"
"Ugh"
Then, without any warning, the front door opens, revealing Luz, battered and torn from her trials at the library.
"Hey kid! How'd the library go?" Eda asked.
Luz didn't reply. She was in a self induced fog. Eda and King gave each other a look and waited a few seconds for Luz to start talking.
"Kid? Boiling Isles to Luz? Hello?" said Eda while waving her hand in front of Luz. Luz never flinched. She was staring off into space, not moving out talking.
Eda was growing concerned. Luz never went more than a few seconds, granted a minute, without replying to her questions.
"Eda," King says, while gripping the edge of Eda's dress, "What's up with Luz? And what's that thing she has in her hands?"
Eda didn't even notice that Luz was holding something. She looked at it and smiled.
"It's an echo mouse, King. It records anything it eats." Eda reaches out for the mouse and it walked right into her hand.
"Weh, it's kind of creepy looking. Do we have to keep it?" King asked.
"The kid's holding it and she went to the library for the portal, so I'm assuming that this mouse has information about that. We'll have to keep him away from Hooty, though." Eda, grabbing a cage, puts the echo mouse in there for safe keeping.
She turns back to Luz. Luz was still standing there! She KNOWS something important happened, but she can't figure it out.
King walks over and pulls on her tattered pant leg trying to grab her attention. It's not working. Okay, time for plan B, King thought.
"As the King of Demons, I DEMAND you speak to me!"
Hearing King's "demand" broke Luz out of her fog, but only a tiny bit.
Luz mumbles something, but they can't hear it.
"Kid, I don't have the best ears. Can you say that again?" Eda requested.
"Amity kissed me," Luz whispers.
King looks at Eda.
"Did you catch what she said?" Eda asked King.
"Nope, not at all!"
"I thought you had great hearing?"
"I do, but she's so quiet I CAN'T HEAR HER!" King frustratingly said to Eda.
Taking a deep breath, Eda looked at Luz, "Kid, you have to tell us what you said, or I'll be forced to pull out your tongue and hex it to tell us what you are trying to say."
"AMITY KISSED ME!"
"Okay, she's working on two volumes" Eda whispers to herself, while King flinched at the sudden raise in Luz's voice.
Silence filled the room. Eda and King were surprised by the confession. Luz was stunned that she just blurted that out in front of them.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Eda curiously asked.
Luz, with all the days' events catching up to her, shook her head "no" slowly.
"Why don't you head up to bed? You look like you've been trampled by a bookworm." Eda said with concern in voice.
Luz, too tired to come up with a reply to Eda's bookworm joke, nodded and started to head to her room.
"Hey Luz?"
Luz turned around, bracing for what Eda was going to say (or jokingly say) about her "relationship" with Amity.
"Everything is going to turn out alright between you two. I promise. We'll talk more in the morning," Eda smiled.
Luz smiled at her mentor, finally heading upstairs for what will be a good night's sleep.
Eda, making sure Luz was upstairs, rushed to grab some paper and a pen and started writing.
"Now what are you doing?" King asked curiously. "And why are you writing so fast?"
By that time, Eda was done and sealing the paper within an envelope. "Oh you'll see my little demon friend. You'll see!" She laughed at the images going through her head and smiled. This will be good, she thought while summoning her magic staff.

The lights were still on in the Clawthorne's house. Gwen was finishing up some dishes when Owlbert flew in.
Gwen, wondering why Owlbert was here, saw that he had a note attached to him for Lilith.
"Sweet flea, there's an owl here to see you!" Gwen yelled.
"Did Hootcifer come and visit?!? I told him to write to me and..." Lilith said walking into the kitchen, but stopped when she saw Owlbert, looking slightly upset that he was compared to Hooty. "Oh hi Owlbert! What brings you here?"
Owlbert hooted and showed Lily the envelope. She reached out and grabbed it from him. "Is this from Edalyn?" Owlbert hooted happily.
Opening the envelope, Lily began to read the letter from her sister.
Dear Lily-
It finally happened! The moment we've all been waiting for! No, it's not a cure for the curse, but this is better than that!
Your "Little miss perfect" student, Amity, kissed my "ordinary" human. I don't know details because the kid wasn't feeling up to talking after getting home, but the one thing I know is that Amity kissed Luz.
PAY UP WITCH!
Sincerely, your all knowing sister,
Eda
Lilith looks at the letter and a smile creeps up on her face, knowing Amity is finally happy and Eda was right (but she won't admit that to her face).
"What does it say dear?" Gwen asked.
Lilith chuckled, "I owe Eda 10 snails."

Cost of Kindness
Chapter IV: Complications
By: sophi-s
Fandom: Darksiders video games
Words: 6,656
Characters: Raphael, Original Female Character (OC), Fury
Warnings: Blood and Injury, Swearing (a lot of it XD)
Summary:
After far too many close calls and an adventure that will last her a lifetime, Nicola and Raphael finally make their way towards Haven. Unfortunately, not everything goes as smoothly as it could.
--------------------------------------------------
Many, many centuries ago taking off to the grand skies has become one of humanity's greatest dreams. They always wished to be able to fly, envying birds their wings and wishing to join them in their aerial conquest. It took many more ages to even try to think of it seriously and even longer for the humans to create the first working airplane and fulfill their dreams as the gravity kept thwarting all their plans. But once this seemingly impossible goal was accomplished, this event has been recorded on the pages of history as one of the most remarkable inventions of the human race.
When she was little, Nicola dreamed of flying on her own as well. She loved watching birds, tracking the planes soaring through the sky, so far away they looked like ants, and thinking about how it would be to have her own wings. Her dreams eventually were abandoned as she grew older, more serious and more reasonable. But honestly, if a week ago someone asked her if she would choose to have wings if she could, Nicola without hesitation would reply "a huge YES". Now however, she realised something she didn't really take into consideration before. While humans wished to rule the skies, they absolutely were not created for this. They have been made flightless, earth-ridden creatures and for a good reason. Her very apparent fear of heights made it awfully clear to her.
These thoughts were all Nicola could hear aside from the rustling of feathers on the wind as she desperately held onto her angel friend, her heart hammering in her chest, eyes wide and stomach making somersaults while everything was spinning around like a carousel. At a certain height the human body just starts to give up and refuse cooperation. For those who are afraid of heights the gap is even smaller and the symptoms more severe. All that was keeping her from fainting or throwing up there and then was the fact that she refused to look down to see how high they actually were but imagining the small buildings below her wasn't making it much better. If she survives this, she will never ask any angel for a fly again and - if it will ever be possible after the apocalypse - stay the heck away from any sort of working plane. Ground was where she belonged. Flying was not her cup of tea and no one will ever convince her otherwise.
Raphael seemed oblivious to the silent prayers spilling past her lips and just kept flying, fully focused on his destination, as she was absolutely certain she's going to die. Her muscles were completely stiff, as though she looked Medusa in the eye. She couldn't even see anything with how her face was buried in the rumpled fabric of Raphael's clothes but she assumed they were getting closer and closer. Focus on anything else than the height. Anything! She kept telling herself when her jaw started to hurt from how she was clenching her teeth. Easier said than done. Nicola knew that Raphael wasn't going to drop her. He promised her and lately she learned to trust him but the pull of gravity beckoning her down into the abyss and to a long plummet ending in a painful impact and certain death… The last time she was this panicked was when the Fallen jumped her out of nowhere. Speaking of which… God, please, let this be a smooth flight. No demons, I'm begging you..
Encounter with stray demons was the last thing they needed now. She didn't doubt Raphael's ability to defend both her and himself but if a flying demon was to attack them from surprise… Not a single part of her already malfunctioning brain could produce a scenario that wouldn't end in either of them dying or at least suffering grave injuries. In short words, any sort of aerial confrontation would mean serious trouble. And trouble wasn't something Nicola missed. Especially after the last night..
Seems like her prayers have been answered. So far nothing noticed an angel and a human passing overhead. And those demons which did apparently decided not to bother them since it didn't seem worth it or had no way of giving them trouble from where they were standing. Nicola stopped counting seconds of their journey long ago and the only indication of the passing time was the wind rushing through her hair slowing down as Raphael started to try and spare as much energy as he could, gliding whenever possible on his wings simply stretched out on both sides and flapping them only to keep the right height, out of range of any demons that could be sulking below when he began to grow weary. His stamina wasn't probably in the best condition after the time he spent in hiding and most likely not moving much.
When she gets back to Haven, Nicola is going to first, eat a solid lunch since her stomach was displeased again - though now she couldn't really feel it twisted in panic like that - second, go the fuck to sleep for the rest of the day. Even though she spent the last night sleeping like a dead woman, she didn't feel that well rested. The amount of stress she had to endure exhausted her and a few hours of rest weren't enough to regenerate her full strength. High on her bucket list was also taking care of Raphael, to at least make him look decent and dress any wounds he carried. Elanya could do that too but Nicola couldn't imagine that Raphael would let a maker he doesn't know do anything to him. She remembered how distrustful he was in the beginning. And after she gets back, no more escapades if not necessary. At least two weeks long break. Ulthane is going to make sure she stays there anyway so she might as well spend her time on sleeping and some light activities.
Speaking of Ulthane… Nicola wasn't actually sure what she'd say to him once she suddenly showed up in Haven after all that time with a traumatized, crazy angel at her side. To say it will be awkward as heck, would be a severe understatement. It's not even about Raphael. How is she going to explain herself to the overbearing maker who is standing on his head to save the last survivors of her kind while, by nearly killing herself three times already, she acted nothing if not ungrateful? And honestly, she wasn't in shape to wonder about it now because her mind refused to focus on anything else than this one thought of the lethal distance between her and the ground. Damn it all.. Why does she have to be afraid of heights and find out this very unpleasant way? Really, if someone tried to take her from Raphael before he landed or too short time after, they'd probably need a crowbar to pry her off him.
While Nicola thought that the flight itself was awful, the moment her stomach seemed to move up into her gullet as Raphael dipped towards the ground she unwittingly shrilly cried out in fear. And that was a mistake. The angel, startled by the quiet human he'd been holding this entire time suddenly screaming bloody murder for no apparent reason, tried to halt his descent to figure out what's wrong but it was already too late for that. As a result the landing was rather rough. Nicola closed her eyes and so she didn't see how Raphael clumsily hit the ground and barely kept himself propped up not to land on top of her as she slipped out of his grasp and lost her grip on his robes. The expectations of a long fall made her throat tighten and trap her voice inside. All the bigger relief once after barely an inch or two, her back connected with the surface, drawing a soft and strained "oof" from her.
Still scared, disoriented and confused, Nicola opened her eyes to see wide-eyed Raphael hunched over her, hands on either side of her head - with the staff to her left - and gawking at her with a slight panic on his face. Goodness, he was way too close. Pulling her arms close to her body in a helpless attempt to regain her personal space, she smiled awkwardly.
"H-hi there!"
The moment he saw that nothing was wrong and her face regained some of its color, Raphael breathed with relief and got off her, once again offering his hand to help her up. Once back on her feet, Nicola nearly cried out when she felt the solid ground under the soles of her boots. Blessed earth, she could literally kiss it right now. But the fact that they were not in Haven yet disconcerted her a little. Looking around, she noticed they're in an empty street in the middle of nowhere. Casting a questioning glance at Raphael she didn't even need to ask. The way his wings were slumped against his back, his breath heavier than before said it all. Plain and simple, Raphael was tired. Too tired to keep going. Still, he was eyeing her cautiously.
"Why… why were you screaming?"
Still feeling the nausea and the shaking of her knees, Nicola scratched the back of her neck and turned her eyes away ashamed.
"Ahuh… I'm not-... I'm not used to flying, that dip scared me a little. Sorry about this.."
Raphael said nothing to this, simply nodded, and lowered himself to the dusted road to have a seat by one of the decrepit stores. Nicola decided to let him have his five minutes to rest before going any further. Store. She suddenly realised. And not just any. A grocery store. At the mere thought her stomach rumbled. Not only could she have something for herself but also gather some stuff for others! If anything there is still edible that is. It wouldn't hurt to check. Every bit of food is precious.
"Raphael, can you wait here for a bit? I'll be back in a jiffy."
Out of the corner of her eye she already saw him shift in apprehension and almost begin to stand up. Probably because she ran once already and in his mind could do it again. She proceeded to calm him down immediately by pointing at the building she intended to search.
"I'll just go in there to look for stuff, don't worry. I will come back."
Staring at her for a couple of intense seconds, Raphael eyed her from head to toe twice before his concerned gaze softened a bit.
"Promise me…?"
Nicola smiled reassuringly and nodded. There weren't many options for her if she did want to run off. Besides, she wasn't quite sure where she was just yet. Her orientation in terrain was… less than decent as of late.
"I promise."
She offered and once Raphael sat somewhat comfortably back down, she took her backpack and shotgun - just in case - and stepped in through a broken window. The inside of the store was in utter disarray and even that was putting it lightly. Most of the shelves were toppled over, some even in pieces. Glinting shards of glass littered the floor, crunching under Nicola's feet every time she made a step. Unsurprisingly, nothing was working. No lights, no freezers, no ventilation. No time to waste. Nicola began her search immediately.
Approaching the fruit stand greeted her with bitter disappointment. Apples, oranges, pears and many other fruits were already rotten and sometimes even coated in white specks of mould. Definitely not good. With vegetables it was exactly the same. The only carrot that looked acceptable at first, turned out to have been completely wilted. Tossing it aside, Nicola moved on. She didn't even bother looking for meat. The stench hit her the moment she came inside and were it not for the smell of decomposing corpses that drifted around the sewers when she was there, she probably would've thrown up where she stood. Instead, she just covered her mouth and nose with her bandana.
Any dairy products were off the table too. Without working freezers every single one of them has surely gone sour by now. A diarrhea was not something she wanted to have in Haven and most likely neither did the makers. Nicola didn't dare to so much as touch any eggs that still were somehow intact. Bad idea. A smelly one as well. There's no way some of them haven't gone bad yet. The risk wasn’t worth it. Passing by one of the mostly whole shelves, she absent mindedly grabbed a bag of dry cat food and stuffed it into her backpack. It was highly probable that most of the survivors would be feeding the kitten with any leftovers but.. just to make sure the poor thing doesn't starve to death.
Most of the jars have broken during initial earthquakes but two small jars of pickles seemed to be mostly alright. Without giving it much thought, she placed them in her backpack. Four bags of freeze-dried fruits quickly found their way into her pockets once she got a hold of them. Under a broken shelf, Nicola spotted an edge of some packet. Assuming it was just crackers or something, she reached into the rubble for it but once she pulled it out… she immediately regretted her decision. It was, in fact, not a bag of crackers. It was a whole, torn bag of soured cabbage coated in some strange growth - probably mould - she didn't get a chance to really look at because her attention was caught by something inside the bag. Probably squeezed in through the tear and got stuck, a small, bloated body of a gigantic, hellish critter. Instinctively, Nicola yelped quietly and without giving it much thought she lobbed the thing across the whole store before wiping her hand on the nearest piece of rag that wasn't her clothes. She didn't even get any of the spilling juices on her but… gross. Just gross. Ew ew ew! Ignoring the wet splat the bag made when it hit the floor wasn't an easy task. Still shaking off the disgust, she continued her search, noting to herself never to touch something she isn't sure what it is.
From there it thankfully was starting to go much smoother. Two packets of crispbread, some dark chocolate and a box of tea were found and collected. Nicola nearly cheered out loud when she spotted a few Snickers on a shelf. One she immediately opened and eagerly ate while the rest landed safely in her backpack. It might be mostly sugar with a bit of peanuts but it was a good snack that could deceive the brain for quite some time. To be frank, Nicola lived half of the high school on those whenever her lessons lasted too long for her breakfast to keep her sated. Besides, she couldn't imagine others would mind her bringing a bunch. Especially Marie. Jacob will most likely strangle Nicola if his daughter eats too much sweets but in the end it'll be worth it. Anything would be worth putting a smile on that sad little face.
Somewhere on the floor, Nicola even found a box of vitamins which luckily was not out of date yet. With a deficit of fruits and vegetables, those could be lifesavers. Especially for Leslie. She needs the most of it. Unfortunately, the space in her backpack was very much limited and soon she couldn't put anything more in there. Rearranging the contents of it, she put in one bottle of water, careful not to crush the crispbread and chocolate. At least she found something. Her escapade wasn't all for nothing when it comes to supplies. But even without those, she wouldn't say she regrets it. Against all the odds, she lived. And most importantly, she gained an otherworldly friend. And in times like these, a friend is something to be treasured.
Slinging her now much heavier backpack on her shoulders, she picked up her gun and headed towards the broken window she used as an entrance before. Peeking out from the store, she saw Raphael where she'd left him and a very much awake cat playfully attacking the longest quill of his left wing. His head perked up when she dropped onto the sidewalk beneath the window and she could've sworn she'd seen the corner of his mouth twitch upwards for a second there. Smiling, she unfolded her hands and shrugged.
"See? I keep my promises."
The angel hummed quietly before leaning his head against the wall behind him and closing his eyes. Nicola was about to ask if he's good to go but let the thought perish when she noticed his eyebrows furrow and his chapped lips twist into a slight grimace. Soon after, his right hand wandered up to his chest as he took a couple of quick and shallow breaths through his clenched teeth. If Nicola didn't know any better, she'd have said Raphael was having a heart attack. Can an angel even have an infarct? She honestly had no idea. In fact, she didn't even know how old he is. She couldn't tell. All the angels she'd met so far had white hair so that's not a hint to go by and his face didn't necessarily look old or young. He seemed as ageless as the time itself. Still, she didn't want to take any chances.
"Raphael? What's wrong?!"
She asked as she crouched beside him and laid a hand on his shoulder to steady him if needed. Raphael simply slowly shook his head and turned to look at her tiredly. And in his blank eyes she saw the already familiar pain and a spark of a silent plea.
"Just a little longer.. Let me rest a while…"
It took everything Nicola had in her to stop the sigh of relief. It didn't sit right with her that Raphael was still suffering and she could do absolutely nothing about it but hearing he's mostly fine, with only the usual ailing him, made her feel a tad easier. When his breathing grew slower and calmer, she even let herself slip down to the floor beside him.
"Sure. We have time, I guess.."
It was still relatively early, barely an hour or two after noon and Nicola wasn't that eager to return into the sky so soon. Only thinking about it made her feel a little sick. Hopefully, it wasn't too far to Haven from here. Even though Nicola really wanted to finally get home, she decided to be patient with her companion. He was wounded and most likely ill but he still tried his best to help her, even though he hadn't known her that long. He deserves a moment. Nicola too needed to sit down for a second as her thigh was still a bloody nuisance. Just a few more minutes. It wouldn't do harm to have a little break now, would it?
Yes. Yes it would. Nicola suddenly realised when she saw the kitten arc its back and puff its tail out. It hisses loudly before scurrying away into the store she just left and soon enough Nicola realised why once she looked into an alley ahead of her. The sight of a massive, winged shape made it painfully obvious. Her heart nearly ceased and Raphael beside her tensed at the sight of an enormous demon with curved horns and teeth, each the size of her palm, resembling a set of barbed knives made specifically to cut meat. The edges of long healed wounds that left behind terrible scars on her abdomen began to itch as she gawked at the familiar monster that nearly took her life. Flapping of gigantic wings that covered the sky with its expanse… Razor sharp claws curling around her body… the same talons tearing into her flesh as Ulthane attempted to free her from its grasp. And this shriek… oh God, this shriek…
Despite the apparent pain and exhaustion, Raphael slowly - not to agitate the demon - got up to his feet and raised his wings threateningly as he stepped in front of aghast Nicola. The fact that due to its bulkiness this thing seems almost twice as large as he is doesn't make an impression on him. Or maybe it does but he doesn't show it. The Fallen stared at Raphael with its small red eyes as a pair of Phantom Guards rounded a corner and joined the beast. Each carried a jagged blade that could easily tear through angelic armor. Nicola had seen it happen. Following them was another bloody Goreclaw. But these three she barely even noticed. Her wide eyes were focused on the larger demon. She felt her muscles refuse cooperation and seize. She couldn't move, couldn't speak. Her mind repeatedly screamed No nono no NO! Not like this!!
With excited roars, the lesser demons charged towards the angel standing between them and the weak, pathetic and helpless human as the Fallen spread its wings and took off into the air. Even as Nicola kept stone still, Raphael remained sharp and ready to act as always. One spell spilled past his lips and the flying demon instantly went rigid before plummeting back onto the ground and crashing into a broken car, setting its annoying alarm off. It didn't discourage the other three but it let Nicola find will to move and clutch her gun tighter. Ever since she'd met Raphael, he'd been doing nothing but getting her arse out of trouble. Taking a shaky breath she decided to start repaying favors.
Though, once again she didn't really have a chance to do anything as she was dumbstruck by the following scene playing out before her. As the hellish monsters charged, Raphael took his staff in both hands and held it before himself, closing his eyes and muttering an incantation in his melodious language. The moment the first demon stepped a tad too close, Raphael's eyes snapped open, burning like two white suns and a sleek ethereal blade materialized from the tip of what Nicola previously thought just an ornament or a walking cane. It glowed like the purest light ever to exist. Another assumption Nicola made about Raphael turned out to have been false. The last thing she can say about him is unarmed. He carried no blade, no gun or anything but who needs a weapon as lame as those when in addition to powerful sorcery you have a freaking lightsaber?
Everything lasted less than a second as the angel led a wide, sweeping slash of his spectral sword… spear thing… and promptly relieved the Phantom Guard of its horned head, before stopping the pouncing Goreclaw with a flick of his free hand, suspending it in the air growling and hissing. The other Phantom Guard had no chance to either attack the vulnerable angel or retreat, when Raphael was busy cutting down the quadrupedal demon, as Nicola came back to her senses and, instead of running like she always has, jumped forward and fired her shotgun. The resounding bang travelled through the entire city, bouncing off the walls and drifting far into the desolate town but it had the effect Nicola counted on.
The Phantom Guard staggered backwards with a chest full of buckshot, wheezed a couple times and tripped over onto its back never to get up again. With adrenaline still pumping through her veins, Nicola stared at the either dead or dying demon in wonderment, her brain trying to process what just happened, before releasing a breathless laugh of triumph. She killed one. She actually killed one! Raphael too seemed rather surprised but not unpleasantly so as he let the blade fade away.
"I got it! Did you see that?!"
"That indeed, I have.."
He said as he eyed her carefully, probably just to check if she's fine. Aside from a little fresh blood on his boots and hands, Raphael didn't seem to have gotten hurt in any way. Well… more than he'd already been at least. Nicola beamed up at him nearly bursting with pride at her actual first kill on a demon larger than her shin. And he seemed happy for her, if the soft smile he regarded her with could be an indication. But this victory didn't last long. Her own smile faded when she saw the Fallen stiffly getting up from where it slammed onto the ground, pure rage on its monstrous face. Her pulse began to race again but this time she refused to let the panic get a hold of her just yet.
"Watch out!!"
She cried too late, just a sliver of a second too late. Raphael whipped around to face the attacker and all he managed to do was raise his hand before the charging demon swung its head to the left. And with the force of a truck driving at the speed of fifty miles per hour, slammed it into the angel, making a formula of a spell die on his lips as he was sent flying through the air and crashing against a nearby building. The force of the impact caved in the wall and the kind, mad angel disappeared in a cloud of dust. All that was left were a couple of white feathers slowly falling to the ground.
"NO!"
Nicola didn't pay any mind to how her voice broke and squeaked pitifully when her heart leaped up into her throat. She could only stare at the place where Raphael vanished with a rumbling crash as the enraged demon growled in the same direction. Not a single part of her being agreed with what she'd just witnessed. A second before he was standing right there, like nothing was about to happen, distracted by her gushing over her first serious kill. Nothing should have happened, why did the demon unravel Raphael's magic just like that? Even a Shadowcaster didn't manage to do that! Why would this one? And why… Tears welled up in her eyes as her lower lip trembled… why did it have to… end the way it did…?
To make matters worse, the Fallen was still before her, still furious and thirsting for blood. Not wasting more time, Nicola pulled out a handful of new bullets and tried to reload her weapon but it proved almost impossible with how much her hands were shaking. Thank Christ, the demon was taking its sweet time as it faced her and began to lumber towards her on all fours, huffing out breaths stinking of rotting meat. Faster, faster, damn it! Nicola cursed inwardly when she dropped a couple of shells before she finally managed to place the ammunition where it should be. But when she looked up, the Fallen was on top of her already. Parting its jaws wide, ready to swallow her whole.
The scream of anguish that felt so tempting in the back of her throat never came to be. In a second, Nicola thought about all the horrors she'd lived through. All demons she'd met, all shambling corpses of former humans brought back by vile sorcery. All friends she'd made and lost.. Raphael, do just one thing for me. She gritted her teeth as her knuckles turned white from how she was gripping her weapon. Despair started to turn into rage. Burning bright and white hot inside of her, the flame Raphael had helped her see. Please, be alive when I come for you… The demon lunged forward to sever the string of her measly life by biting her in half. But Nicola wasn't going to let it get her so easily. Her fear was forgotten as she stuck the barrel of her shotgun into the monster's opened maw. She didn't want to die. Not now, not like this. For once she wanted to have a say over her own fate. Over the date of her demise. She is still young, she had a whole life ahead of her. And all those demonic dickheads with the Destroyer leading the charge decided to ruin everything and not only for her, but for every human who lives still and who has perished. And those who are yet to be born. She refused. She will not die. Not here. Not killed by that thing.
"FUCKOFF!!!"
And she fired. Partially, the sound was muffled by the demon's mouth snapping shut just barely missing Nicola's arms as she let go of her gun. The Fallen recoiled and began to shriek in pain, spitting out its own blood onto the concrete at its feet. Nicola didn't have delusions she could kill it but it gave her the precious seconds she needed. She ran for the closest hiding place available, which was the store she just left. Nicola leaped in through the broken window and quickly made it to the opposite wall to put as much distance between herself and the writhing monstrosity as possible. And it was a good choice. A loud roar from the street made her heart fall into her heels as the injured demon finally gathered its bearings.
Nicola looked at the Fallen that was coming her way with murder in its eyes. The unexpected bout of courage has long faded and the petrifying fear once again had Nicola in its chilling grasp. Even with the mouthful of bullets, the Fallen did not intend to give up on its prey. And here she hoped it would piss off if she fed it with lead… Snarling and panting, the demon approached the broken window with its own blood pouring from between its sharp fangs. It only added to the menacing image of the beast that had Nicola trembling and frozen.
Think, Nicola, THINK! What can she do against an opponent far bigger, stronger and more dangerous than a single human without a weapon? The Fallen was trying to fit through the window, reaching out with its clawed paw to try and get her. Nicola looks around in panic, looking for anything that could save her. In a grocery store. Good luck. Eventually, she says "fuck it" and grabs a most likely rancid egg. The laughably small projectile splatters over the face of the demon with a squelch and even from far away Nicola is sure this egg was definitely rotten. Even the Fallen stops for a second to shake the disgusting goop off of its head but before it's done, another egg flies through the air and cracks on its head, just as stinky as the previous one.
"How'd ya, like that, asshole?! Wanna have some more?!"
Nicola yells at the demon, holding yet another egg, fully prepared to just chuck it at the monster. Unfortunately, all she managed to do was piss it off even further as its efforts in reaching her doubled. Pieces of plaster and bricks were coming loose as the demon tried to wriggle into the shop to finally kill that annoying pest lobbing small, smelly things at it. As a result, an egg once again hit the demon while Nicola kept shouting out profanities that probably made her poor mother toss and turn in her grave. She's not going down without a fight, even if the said fight is done by throwing eggs and all the gross shit she found on the floor. But she knew she isn’t getting out of this one.
And so, this is it. Nicola couldn't believe she would die by the claws of the same creature that nearly killed her once before. Was Ulthane rescuing her only delaying the inevitable? What a sick joke… Why does fate insist on being cruel? There was so much she wanted to say, so many apologies she had to give… so little time… There was nothing she could do. At least… she will see Nicholas again.. her parents and every friend she'd lost in this cursed apocalypse. A miracle would've been nice. A tiny one. Just this once. Please?
And boy, did she get her wish. A sudden force violently tearing the Fallen out of the shop nearly startled her out of her dirty and tattered jeans. Hardly believing her eyes, she watched as her would-be killer screeched in rage and surprise when it was wrenched free from the ruined window and was gone from her vision. A sudden tremor shook the whole building, sending small bits of debris raining down on her head as a mighty roar reverberated through her very bones. But it wasn't the Fallen. It was something meaner. Something… Nicola swallowed thickly at the thought… bigger. Or at least as large as this fucker. Then came clacking of metal, ungodly screeching of the demon. A second later Nicola saw as it was flung through the air like a sack of potatoes and crashed against a block of flats. Instant karma. She thinks with bitter satisfaction when she remembers what that faggot did to Raphael. I need to somehow get to him. Honestly though, she doesn't really want to know what managed to just YEET a Fallen like a skipping rock.
Unfortunately, she finds out and finds out quite soon. From her hideout, she sees an enormous creature, nearly as big as the demon that threatened her, charging towards the stunned monster still bleeding from its mouth. If Nicola had been terrified of the Fallen, then she was on the verge of having a straight out SCA after seeing this chunk of a behemoth. Whatever this thing was, it was the size of an average tree. Its armored hide was burning with red and white flames which were enveloping twin jagged, metal whips it held in its hands. Vestigial wings were trembling with wrath as it turned its radiant white eyes at the battered demon. Between a pair of sweeping horns that crowned its head was a flickering blaze that flared with each step the monstrosity took towards its quarry. Right.. What's the best way to get rid of a monster? Sic a stronger monster on it. The Fallen shrugged off and growled at its new assailant, challenging it to a fight.
While the two beasts were circling one another, battling she couldn't even guess what for, Nicola braced for what was to come. This is a horrible idea. Breath in and breath out. In and out. And when the Fallen pounced at its attacker, she bolted. Not stopping, she ran. Through the street the demons were fighting on, past them - so close she could feel the heat radiating off of the newcomer - and into the building Raphael disappeared in. Nicola hoped she was ready for what she was about to find. She really did. Jumping in through the punched in wall however, she soon found out she was, in fact, not ready. The moment she entered, she immediately caught the sight that made something squeeze inside of her.
On a pile of rubble from the destroyed wall was Raphael coated in dust. Still. Not moving, his mesmerising white eyes shut. Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh God, oh NO! Not thinking, all fear and uncertainty she ever felt in his presence was long cast away, Nicola rushed over to him pleading, begging everything that would listen for him to be alive. Don't leave me here like this… Dropping at his side into the rubble, Nicola lays her ear on the top of his chest and doesn't let herself relax until she hears a heartbeat and a shallow breath within. Words cannot describe how much she deflated once she did. He's still alive.. but he doesn’t look good.
"Raphael! Please say something! Can you hear me?!"
Thankfully, angel's eyes lolled open as she spoke to him, hinting that he indeed can hear her. Trying his best to keep his unfocused gaze on her face, Raphael furrowed his eyebrows and lifted his upper lip in a pained sneer as his hand wandered up to clutch at his side where the demon's heat struck him.
"Nnn… Nnii… co…"
He weakly attempted to speak but without much success. No joke, he must've hit his head really hard and she dreaded to think about the state of his ribcage.. But hey! At least he hears and understands what Nicola is saying. And it's a good sign.. right…? Wasting no more time, Nicola helped him sit up, keeping her hand on his forehead to steady him as his own palm rested over hers. Even squinting in pain, Raphael kept looking at her, as though she was the only point of focus he could think of.
"Hang in there, okay?! Please, Phel.. We'll be fine…"
Liar. Something snaps at her. They're pretty much defenseless and vulnerable with a very livid demon still threatening them. One or the other will come out victorious. And to the victor go the spoils… Raphael tried to say something but still couldn't formulate words properly due to the splitting headache pulsing through his entire skull. Though even through ringing in his head and pain in his chest that somehow rivaled the one he constantly felt, he found something in this human's words that baffled him. In her panic, Nicola doesn't catch a puzzled look he sends her way.
Phel?
A choked up cry of a dying demon made them both jump a little and look out through the hole Raphael made when the demon gored him. Just in time to see the flaming beast standing on top of the Fallen and strangling it with its whips. Then, the creature of… quite blatantly feminine curves gave one sharp tug and the demon's head was brutally severed from the rest of its body. And everything fell silent.
Instinctively, Nicola halted her breath and ceased any movement, watching the winner (Nicola felt fully comfortable with calling it per "she" now) shoot a glance towards her and Raphael who by this point tiredly laid his head on her shoulder, heaving in attempts to draw a proper breath. The creature approached slowly, keeping Nicola frozen in place and desperately holding onto her injured friend. When the demon was at the wall, only her massive legs were visible. Seconds ticked by as a set of claws rested above the opening to the house, and a monstrous head loomed through the hole.
That would be more than enough to make Nicola pass right the Hell out but.. Something about this creature intrigued her. It didn't have a snarling, toothy maw but an almost featureless face with the curve of a nose and a pair of bright and ferocious, intelligent eyes. It stared at her with more understanding than any demon Nicola had ever seen. Whatever it was, it didn't seem aggressive for some weird reason. At least not yet.. Then, unexpectedly, the creature was enveloped in red flames as its humongous form began to shrink and reshape into something much smaller but still a good two heads taller than an average human.
From the hot light emerged a very humanlike woman in intricate metal armor. Black tattoos marked her stern face around her luminous, white eyes and on her forehead, right below the line of incredibly dense magenta colored hair which floated freely around her head, defying gravity like it's the most natural thing in the world. Whoever it was, even with an intimidating aura of strength and resolve, her close resemblance to a human calmed Nicola somewhat. Plus, she had to admit that this woman had the looks. Men would probably be killing one another for her. Honestly, Nicola felt kind of jealous.. But considering she was still pretty much helpless with a half-conscious angel leaned against her, it didn't put her fully at ease. At least until the stranger spoke in plain English. Then Nicola finally released the breath she was holding. Crossing her arms, the tall lady sneered slightly at the human and angel before her.
"Well, would you look at that. Guess it's your lucky day today."

It's finally done, my goodness! This one was hard to get right but I made it. Don’t ask me how i managed to finish it with two pictures, I have no clue :I
Fury makes an appearance! Badass as always. :D
Also, can I get an F for Raphael's poor ribs?

A hurt little doe

Artist of this lovely artwork:
It was another lovely day down in hell; Well, that depended on who you asked. If you were an overlord then it was a splendid day! Filled with demons either worshipping or fearing you, both of which were pleasant.
But if you were among the average class or worse...below, then most days you awoke wondering if it would be your last.
Today, well today was no different.
Being reborn in hell came with its advantages, you had a second life, a second chance to do things differently. But it also came with some major disadvantages.
Mainly what type of demon you were born as. Most would assume it wouldn't matter, but it certainly did especially among the more animalistic type of demons. Quite a lot of the population was either imps or some sort of animal, and then there were others who fell somewhere between it all.
Imps were essentially the equivalent to a normal human soul, nothing too powerful.
Animal demons, well they had something to offer. At least that's how the stories went. Depending on what animal you represented in hell reflected the value of your soul.
So what did it mean when you found yourself to be a doe?
His eyes cracked open as a shiver racked his body, a doe of all things. Why a doe. A helpless creature seen as nothing more than a mate or a source of sexual pleasure. He wasn't even a female in his human life and yet, here he was with the body of one. The white ears and tail were cute, sure, but they didn't help much.
Angel Dust, or at least that's what demons called him when they were topping him. He wasn't entirely against sex but at this point, it was less for pleasure and more for survival.
He wasn't speaking about food and water but also the rather annoying heat cycle that seemed to come once a year and demanded be treated.
Being an animal demon came with that in some regards.
But this morning was like most, in which Angel would either wake up in a stranger's bed or in a random place in hell. Today he woke up in an alleyway among some trash cans and crows that had mistaken his body for food.
A groan left him as he pushed off the unforgiving cold cement the crows flying away. He was surprised nobody had found him whilst he was out.
A sigh left him and his white ear tuffs folded back along with the action. His clothing was ragged at best, an old worn-out t-shirt and pants. They smelled horrid but with his increased smell due to being a doe, it didn't help the intensity of it. It made him want to hurl, especially on an empty stomach.
He had a few choices for today, either get up and go try to find food. 'Earn it' or lay here and fall asleep trying to ignore the stomach pains he was getting due to lack of food. He couldn't die of natural causes so it made this all the more worse.
Well, he was going to get nowhere just sitting here.
Pushing off the wall the best he could, his knees shaking the doe tried to wobble his way out from the alleyway. Unfortunately, he didn't get far, his legs refusing to take him and instead forcing him back down among the garbage bags.
Angel frowned, his ears pressing back against his white hair. "Guess it's gonna be anotha' day without food..." He muttered in what sounded like an Italian accent.
He couldn't do much except stay here and regain his strength, hoping nothing would happen in the process.
Giving in to his exsutation he laid his head back against the wall behind him, nestled in an alleyway between buildings. The demons who walked by didn't notice him among the trash, even though he stuck out for being mainly white with the exception of his pale skin.
His eyes began to close and he was more than willing to allow them. However something prompted them to fly open again, it annoyed him out alert he was despite just wanting to sleep.
His ears shot up as a new smell entered the air, powering over the smell of trash and anything foul. It smelled sweet, nothing in particular but just very..sweet.
With the little strange he possessed, the doe managed to turn his head to the side. His senses shot up in alarm once he realized just who was standing there in the entrance of the alleyway.
As if he'd suddenly gotten the strength he moved off the wall backing into the alleyway. His ears were pressed down hard against his head again. He looked up at the demon pleadingly knowing just who he was.
Alastor the radio demon.
Word traveled well around here and he knew this demon was well known for being one of the strongest mortal souls around. That he took pleasure in killing others even his own kind.
He expected things to end just there, for this demon to have spotted a helpless doe and kill him here. Or do what he pleased and then end his peathtic after life.
Instead, the radio demon raised a brow and leaned down until their eyes were leveled. A large toothy smile spread across his face and with how uncomfortably close he was, there was no question about it. That sweet smell was coming from him.
Although Angel had no clue why, he assumed it was either because he was a doe, or because they were both in the same animal kingdom.
"Well hello there!" Alastor finally greeted with that enthusiastic tone he was known for. "This doesn't look like a comfortable place to sleep!"
Angel frowned, hating how his eyes teared up at the reminder that yes, he slept in a place such as this. Or more so, that the radio demon appeared to be pitying him, or toying with him. Did he play with his prey?
Angel couldn't find the words or any for that matter. The tears rolling down his face and broken spirit playing between his unusual eyes was more than enough to show what he was feeling.
Alastor hummed leaning away and instead taking a step closer, keeping both hands behind his back. He'd encountered quite a few demons similar to himself, although none whereas powerful as he. In most of these circumstances, he would eat them as such a demon was rather rare to come across down here.
However, this was the first time he was meeting a doe.
And they smelled lovely.
"Not very talkative are you?" Alastor asked, questioning if this demon could talk. It was obvious they were afraid but he wondered if it was of him or just in general. Judging by their tattered clothing and scratches on their pale skin, it was obvious things weren't very easy for them.
Alastor wasn't the type to show any sort of tenderness to another but it seemed appropriate for a situation such as this. Besides if anyone saw he would just kill them. A free lunch!
So, with caution, he knelt until he was at eye level with the meek white doe. "What is your name?" He asked in an uncharacteristically softer tone. It seemed to throw the doe off.
Angel didn't understand what Alastor wanted if he was food for this wendigo or just a toy. But with most, they typically met their end whenever they faced this creature. So to find him being gentle was almost unnerving.
But if he were to die anyway, he saw no problem in speaking to the demon. If he could find the bravery too.
"A-Angel Dust.." The doe stuttered, his voice trembled.
Alastor smile widened, pleased to finally hear the doe speak. "Angel? What a splendid name. Tell me why are you sleeping here?" He had an idea of why but wanted to confirm.
Angel shrunk back as his ears moved along with the action, something Alastor couldn't help but watch. "I-I ain't got anywhere else ta go...I just sleep wherever."
Alastor shook his head, "well that won't do at all. You'll surely die out here in no time flat. No no, we can't have that now." He hummed tapping his long black nail against his grey skin. As he snapped his fingers the doe flinched. "Ah, I have an idea! You shall come with me, yes there you shall be warm and properly cared for. Would you be interested in such an offer?"
Angel's brows knit together in confusion, why would one of the hells many powerful overlords want to take in someone like him? Was it truly because he was a doe? He didn't think something like that would work on the radio demon, then again..powerful or not, Alastor was still a deer demon. A male deer.
"Y-your givin' me a choice?" Angel asked in disbelief.
"But of course! I can't simply just whisk you away without your say in the matter, that may as well be kidnapping." Funny to think the radio demon even cared about that.
This may have been a bad idea, especially considering just who was giving the offer. But what did Angel truly have to lose? His life? He'd already lost it. It was either this or going back to another stranger's bed in the next few days just to eat.
His brows knit together as he met those deep pools of red and that large yellow smile. It seemed to glow in the shade of the alleyway.
"Fine...It's not like I have anywhere else ta go." Angel answered, his voice low. If not for their enhanced hearing Alastor wouldn't have heard him.
"Splendid now, can you stand?"
Angel shook his head remembering how that went earlier and only resulted in falling on his ass. His legs felt weak even now.
"Well, then this will have to do," Alastor answered and without warning picked up the fragile doe in his arms.
Angel stiffened under the touch on his back and under his leg but before he knew it he was being taken away from the alleyway. In the arms of one of those most powerful deers in hell.
He closed his eyes and loosely wrapped his arms around the deer's shoulders as a few tears left his eyes.

So when I read the tag is said ‘canon Alastor x doe Angel’ and when I saw canon I wasn’t sure if Alastor was actually interested in Angel, wanted to protect him or just wanted to eat him because the mans a cannibal. So I didn’t go one direct way with Alastor’s intentions in this oneshot, nor know what the artist behind these works intend Alastors desire with Angel to be. Take it as you’d like!

A bright light filtered through Mahiru’s eyelids and it pulled him out of his sleep. As he slowly regained consciousness, he became more aware of how stiff his body felt. Mahiru opened his eyes and he was confused when he saw the industrial light above him. He had become accustomed to seeing a blue sky whenever he woke. For a moment, he thought he was dreaming.
Mahiru moved his hand and he felt a light grip around it. He turned his head to find Kuro sleeping beside him in a chair. He also realized that he was in a hospital room and they were in his era again. Kuro must’ve taken him back through the well after the fight with Mikuni. Memories of the night came back to him and he tried to sit up. His body refused to move and he groaned slightly.
His voice woke Kuro and he jumped to his feet. He leaned over him and carefully ran his fingers through Mahiru’s brown hair. With his era’s advanced technology, he thought it was best to take him back to his time to treat his wounds. Kuro couldn’t remember the last time he had been so scared. Even now, he was afraid that the slightest touch would hurt him.
“You’re awake.” He whispered as a reassurance to himself more. Kuro brushed his bangs from his forehead and then pressed a soft kiss to the spot. His uncle drove them to a large building and Kuro didn’t understand what they intended to do to help Mahiru. The doctors didn’t allow him to see him until an hour after they took him to another room.
“How long have I been sleeping? Are Tsurugi and the others safe as well? I purified the castle but I don’t know if it was enough to break the spell over them. Touma was there and—” Mahiru paused when Kuro placed his finger against his lips. His warm hand calmed him and Mahiru took a shaky breath. He closed his eyes and leaned into his hand. “He took my jewel shards.”
“We’ll get them back. Don’t think about the sacred jewel or Touma and focus on recovering instead, Mahiru. You used too much of your spiritual energy and I was worried that it would damage your heart. The doctor said you’re fine though.” He made a weak smile. Mahiru stretched out his arms to him and Kuro climbed onto the bed to accept his silent invitation. He hugged him and rested his head against his chest to listen to his heart beat.
Mahiru reached up to touch Kuro’s cat ears but he had a hood pulled over his head. He understood that he had to hide them because doctors would question why a man had cat ears. He slipped his hands beneath his hood and threaded his fingers through his hair until he could scratch his ears. Kuro started to purr and Mahiru chuckled lightly at the sound. His laughter ran through his chest and Kuro could feel it.
Kuro sat up and his bell rang between them. The sound drew Mahiru’s attention to the pouch he wore and the jewel shards glowed through the fabric. They had fought countless battles to collect the shards yet Touma took them from him so easily. He was already injured and he couldn’t use his spiritual power at the time. Mahiru still felt guilty.
“Are you thinking about what happened? Mikuni made that trap to take all of our jewel shards but you were the one who stopped him. Your arrow broke his spell and he ran away after that.” Kuro knew how Mahiru took on too much responsibility and he wished he would acknowledge his own strength. “We’ll go back and make a plan with Hyde and Licht later. For now, rest.”
“I don’t know if I can relax.” Mahiru admitted and laid back against the pillow. “Who knows how many shards Touma has now that he had stolen my half? He might have a majority of the sacred jewel now.”
He thought of what Touma told him before he took his jewels. He called him weak like his mother. What kind of relationship did they have and why did he resent him? His mother briefly appeared with a pinkish glow around her. He didn’t know if she was truly his mother or the version of her that lived in the past. He recalled how she also protected him from the centipede demon.
Mahiru was pulled out of his thoughts when Kuro took his hand. “I asked your uncle if there was anything that I could do to distract you from what happened and help you feel better. He said I should take out on a date so you would have a break from collecting the jewel shards. I don’t know what a ‘date’ is but I’ll take you anywhere you want.”
“A date isn’t a place. People in your time would call it a part of courting where you take your lover somewhere for fun. It doesn’t matter where as long as we’re together.” He explained. They spent a lot of time together while collecting the jewel shards but they haven’t been able to go on a conventional date. Mahiru wanted to spend time with him on a date, he didn’t know if it was the right time.
Kuro placed his finger beneath his chin and he turned his head to face him. His red eyes were earnest and Mahiru felt his heart quicken. Kuro could see how hesitant he was and he moved his hand to hold Mahiru’s. He gave him a tender squeeze before he said, “You uncle also told me that you like simple dates like going to the movies or eating out.”
“I know a local place that has great ramen and somen where we can eat.” Mahiru said. “But I need to be discharged from the hospital before I can leave. They’ll probably want to do a few tests and speak with me. I don’t know how to explain to them that a wind sorcerer threw me against the wall.”
“Your uncle told them that you fell off your bike. He’s in the cafeteria right now and I’ll go tell him that you’re awake. I’m sure you want to talk to him after being gone so long.” Kuro stood up and kissed his forehead before he left. His consideration touched his heart and Mahiru glanced at the chair beside his bed. He had likely stayed beside him the entire night.
Mahiru called to Kuro as he opened the door. “I’m looking forward to our date, Kuro.”
Licht studied the strange contraption that he often saw Mahiru use to travel. He had never seen something similar before. Mahiru called it a bike and it was unique to his village. He didn’t explain much about the bike and Licht wondered if it was a demon in disguise or a strange wagon. He touched the cold metal and closed his eyes to listen for a heartbeat. “What are you, Mr. Bike?”
Something tickled his neck and Licht instinctively flinched away from the touch. He almost fell into the bike but an arm caught him before he could be hurt. Licht wasn’t surprised after he heard Hyde chuckle in his ear. The demon seemed to enjoy sneaking up behind him to play small tricks. He was more confused with himself since he hadn’t sensed him approach him.
Kirara hadn’t warned him about Hyde behind him either. Instead, the cat demon reached out its tiny paw to him and purred happily. He reasoned that she didn’t warn him because she trusted him after all the time they spent together. Licht petted Kirara and he hated to admit that he felt the same. They were so accustomed to Hyde’s presence that they didn’t react to his approach. Despite everything he learned as a demon slayer, he considered Hyde a new comrade.
“Are Kuro and Mahiru back from their mysterious village?” Licht asked and moved out of Hyde’s arms. Kuro had immediately taken Mahiru back to his village and he forgot to bring the bike and backpack in his rush. He brought the two items back to Toru’s village for them. “I wonder if Mahiru is also from a village of demon slayers for Kuro to keep their location a secret. He didn’t allow anyone to follow him and he destroyed his tracks.”
“Who would believe a lazy bastard like my brother would go through so much trouble for a human? Even though he was panicked, he thought of Mahiru’s wish to keep his village a secret. I was curious about the place since Mahiru is different. I considered tracking him but I’m sure Kuro would be mad if I did. Mahiru must be something.” Hyde joked but Licht started to feel strange. He was jealous of how he spoke of Mahiru. Licht respected Mahiru and he knew Hyde only saw him as a friend yet the feelings turned his stomach.
He looked away from him and flicked the bike pedal. Licht wanted to push aside the confusing feelings to focus on the twirling pedal. Then, he felt Hyde’s large hand on his head and he tousled his hair. He looked back to see him grinning. “As strange as Mahiru is, he can never be as unique as an angel. I’ve never heard of a demon slayer with a pet nekomata.”
“I didn’t know Kirara was a demon at first. She wandered into my crib when I was a toddler and I assumed she was a regular cat. I adopted her. According to my mother, I cried loud enough to attract demons when they tried to take her away from me.” Licht slipped the cat from his shoulder and cradled her in his arms. “She’s my family and I didn’t want to be separated from her.”
“Kirara adores you too. She’s not fully grown and intelligent like other nekomata but I can understand her when she purrs.” As Hyde petted the cat, he leaned closer to Licht without thinking. “I heard you talking to ‘Mr. Bike’. This thing is probably a tool for travelling though. It doesn’t have a demon presence and Mahiru doesn’t talk to it like he would a pet.”
“Mahiru sits on it like a horse.” Licht picked up the bike and he imitated how Mahiru would sit on it. He swung his leg over the seat but he found it difficult to balance on the bike. The wheels were thin and the ground was uneven. “Mahiru places his feet on these two stirrups. Will it go forward if I press on them?”
The moment he took his feet off the ground to press the pedal, the bike started to tilt sideways. Hyde reached out to stop the bike from falling but then he felt a sharp pain on his feet. Licht had hastily placed his foot on the ground for balance and he accidentally stepped on him. The spikes on his boots made the pain worse. He saw him wince but he didn’t become angry like he expected. Hyde only laughed.
“Maybe we should wait until Mahiru comes back so he can properly teach you how to ride that bike.” He playfully ruffled his hair again. “I don’t know why you’re suddenly interested in the bike. You already have Kirara and she’s faster than this contraption.”
“Kirara is wonderful. She’s the fastest nekomata alive and she can even fly.” Licht agreed and nodded proudly. He petted the cat on his shoulder but his smile became tainted with regret. “We weren’t fast enough to reach the castle before Kuro and Mahiru were attacked by the wind sorcerer. I’m supposed to be the fastest in my family but I was too slow again.”
Hyde knew that he was thinking of his father who had also died in one of Touma’s traps. He didn’t know what he could say to comfort him. He placed his hands on the bike and Licht sat in the loose circle of his embrace. “In a fair fight, angels always win. Touma doesn’t fight fair though. When Mahiru sent that familiar to us, it couldn’t take us to the castle because of the barrier.”
“That’s what I hate most about demons. They can never be honest and resort to tricks when fighting us. Demons already have an advantage with their power and we tried to fight back with our numbers. We worked so hard but that demon…” Licht looked up and his words trailed off. He was a demon and he would feel offended that he had insulted his kind. Hyde was different from the demons he fought and he forgot that he was an oni. “I was talking about Touma.”
“I’m a demon and I’ve used cowardly tricks too.” Hyde snapped his fingers and a wind circled them. He let go of the bike but his wind kept it from falling again. Licht cautiously placed his foot on the peddle and pushed down on it to make the bike crawl forward. Hyde walked beside him. “With my knowledge as a demon and a monk, I’ll strip Touma of any tricks he could use. The only thing left is for an angel to purify him. Then, we’ll both have our revenge.”
“A demon slayer, an oni monk, a priest and a half demon. We make a strange team, don’t we?” Licht chuckled and the subtle tilt of his lips was surprisingly attractive. He rarely smiled and Hyde wondered what he could do to see the expression more. An eccentric demon slayer shouldn’t affect him so much when he already promised that he wouldn’t become attached to a human again.
Kirara jumped off his shoulder and shifted into its larger body. He was confused when it growled at them since it was rarely aggressive. Licht stepped off the bike and he walked to the large cat. He reached out to it but Kirara walked past him to the bike and picked it up in her mouth. He watched Kirara carry the bike towards the river and he realized its intention too late.
Kirara dropped Mahiru’s bike into the water.
“Bad girl, why would you do that?” Licht ran into the lake to retrieve the bike before it could be carried away by the current. A small tug on his shirt stopped him and he looked back to Kirara. She whined softly and he wished that he understood what she wanted to tell him. Kirara rarely misbehave so he couldn’t guess why she would throw the bike into the lake. “What is it, Kirara?”
“She got jealous that you were riding on the bike instead of her.” Hyde told him and he had chuckled at the situation.
“You should know that I could never replace you. You’re my family. But Mahiru’s also our family and he’ll be sad if something happens to his bike. Let’s get it and then we can take a ride around the village.” Licht reassured the cat and stroked its fur. Hyde imagined if he held him and he found that he was the one to feel jealous. He didn’t want to be a companion to Licht like Kirara was though.
“You need to catch the noodles, Kuro. I thought you would be better at this since you love ramen and you have cat-like reflexes. Here, you can have this one.” Mahiru used his chopsticks to catch the cluster of nagashi somen that slid down the bamboo shoot. He dipped the noodles into the broth and then brought it to Kuro’s mouth to feed him. He took Kuro to a restaurant that offered a variety of noodles for their date. “How does it taste?”
“Good. You said you were a cook for a restaurant. Did you make dishes like this? The food at this restaurant tastes different from yours. I would like to taste yours since the food you make back home has a different seasoning. It’s simple but good too.” While Mahiru brought him cup ramen to eat, Kuro also enjoyed when he would cook for them.
“I actually work in a curry shop but I know how to make noodles like this. Once we have an opportunity like this again, I’ll make somba from scratch for you. It would be difficult for me to carry all the supplies I need to make homemade noodles to the past.” Mahiru offered. “My uncle bought this toy version of a bamboo shoot where you can slide down noodles like this. Maybe I can find it for the occasion.”
Mahiru had a bright smile whenever he spoke of his uncle and Kuro couldn’t stop himself from reaching out to him in that moment. He brushed his bangs from his forehead so he could see his brown eyes better. His casual touch caused Mahiru to pause as if he were spellbound. They were always together in the feudal era but his touch felt more intimate now that they were on an official date.
“Is there something on my face, Kuro?” Mahiru tried to hide that he was blushing by rubbing a napkin over his cheek. The action only drew Kuro’s attention to his lips and he forced himself to turn back to his bowl. He was tempted to kiss him but he didn’t know if he should with so many people around them.
“Pardon me,” A voice came between them and Kuro leaned away from Mahiru. A waiter held up a pitcher of water and asked, “Would you like me to refill your glasses?”
“Yes, thank you. We’re finished eating so can you get us our bill? The food was great.” Mahiru said and reached for his wallet to pay for the meal. He was a little confused when Kuro stopped him by placing his hand over his.
“I’ll pay for the food. Your uncle said that it’s my responsibility to take care of you as your mate.” Kuro told him. Mahiru didn’t know how he intended to pay the bill when he didn’t have money from his era. He was happy that his uncle supported their relationship but he hoped he didn’t give him money to pay for their date. Then, Kuro said: “I have a rare mummified kappa claw and that should be enough.”
“Wait, you have what?” Mahiru saw him pull a claw out his pocket and he started to panic. He could only imagine the panic that would occur after they saw the claw. He needed to stop him. “Sit, Kuro!”
“Sorry about using the incarnation on you, Kuro. The waiter would’ve freaked out if they saw a demon’s hand. I might’ve caused a bigger scene by using the spell though.” Mahiru and Kuro held hands as they walked home from the restaurant. It was night and Kuro was surprised by how bright the street was with the lanterns lining the path. Mahiru moved closer to him and leaned his head against his arm.
“Are you cold?” Kuro took off his red robe and placed it over Mahiru’s shoulders. He slipped his arms through the sleeve and drew the fabric to his nose. Mahiru wasn’t cold but he liked the opportunity to wear his jacket and walk close to him. No matter if they were exploring the feudal era or having a simple walk in the modern world, he was happy to spend time with Kuro.
“We ate a lot. How about we burn off all those calories by playing in the park?” Mahiru took his hand and led Kuro into the park across the street. Most would find the park childish but he wanted to see what his reaction would be. The feudal era didn’t have playgrounds with swings and slides. He experienced new things in Kuro’s time and he wanted to give him a similar experience.
Since it was late, the park was empty and they were the only two in the area. Mahiru sat on a swing and lightly kicked off the ground. “I don’t know if you have something similar to playgrounds like this. There are forests next to the village where kids can play and explore. We don’t have as many vast landscapes like you do. Sit on the swing next to me, Kuro.”
He accidentally used the incarnation and he jumped forward to stop him from crashing into the dirt. Mahiru hugged him but the power of the spell was stronger than he expected and he was pulled to the ground as well. He fell onto his back but he wasn’t hurt by Kuro. Kuro caught himself before he could fall on top of Mahiru.
They laid on the ground but Mahiru found himself laughing. He reached up to play with the bell hanging from his neck and rang it lightly. “When we have the chance to speak with my uncle in the past again, we should ask him how to break the incarnation. He cast the spell so you wouldn’t try to steal the jewel from me. We don’t have to worry about that so you don’t need this.”
“The incarnation is troublesome but I want to keep the bell. It’s the first thing you gave me.” He said and sat up. Mahiru had his arms around his neck and he moved with Kuro. He tightened his hold around him lightly and thought of how well they fit together. His arms made him feel safe and protected and Mahiru didn’t want to let go of him.
“You know, Kuro, when you said that you talk to me uncle, I was a little scared. I thought you two would’ve said that I should stay in my time here. Touma was able to take my jewel shards from me.” Mahiru placed his hand over his heart where he would wear the necklace that held his shards. “Without the shards, I can never go back or see you again. That scares me more than Touma.”
“I can never leave you behind again.” Kuro took off his jewel shards and slipped it around Mahiru’s neck. He cupped his face and leaned down to kiss his forehead. The fight before them was dangerous but he understood Mahiru’s wish to face the challenge together. He was the strongest person he knew yet he would fight for him and future together. “I won’t let Touma or anyone else hurt you again.”
“Touma didn’t hurt me and I think it was because my mother was there. She also protected us from the centipede demon the night we met. At first, I thought I hallucinated her but there could be a chance she’s still alive. Touma wasn’t surprised to see Mother so he must know something. I want to talk to him.” Mahiru decided. “It’ll be more difficult to defeat him than simply killing him.”
“It’ll be troublesome but we’ll find a way.” Kuro agreed to his plan quicker than Mahiru expected but his answer warmed his heart. “We should head home before demons come out. It’s night. I don’t know what kind of demons live in this park but I would rather not fight them.”
“My time doesn’t have demons but it is rather late. I wanted to enjoy the park but I think there’s something you’ll enjoy more. I like sleeping under the stars with you but you haven’t tried sleeping in a bed. It’s more comfortable then the ground.” Mahiru hugged Kuro’s arm and grinned up at him. “I don’t usually have sex on the first date but I’ll make an exception for you, Kuro.”
“There’s no rush to go back so we can stay the night.” He leaned down and kissed him softly.
