i believe the reason why knowing multiple languages feels like losing vocab in all of them is that the brain doesn't differentiate across such arbitrary lines, a word is a word and it all goes into the same pile. so when you restrict yourself to a single language you're effectively only using 1/2 or 1/3 etc of your total vocab ie. losing words
