I could talk endlessly about Champions, and the opportunity it gave us to see Scott as the child that he could have been if Xavier hadn't immediately decided to thrust him into a leadership role.

Like, okay, he's adorably failing at Halloween here. But he's actually TRYING. That is a FAKE MUSTACHE!

We've always known that the Cyclops of the Original Five was a child who had no idea how to be a child. But what's revelatory about this comic is that, for the first time, we get to see that he actually does WANT to be one. He is happy to watch television with them, to play paintball with them, to be in the same room as a karaoke machine with them. And even if he doesn't quite get how Halloween costumes are supposed to work (and that's tragic), the fact that he's gamely up for looking silly with the group is a big deal.

We know how he was with the Original Five. He loved them, but he didn't really play with them. It was danger room sessions, missions, reports, and MAYBE the occasional trip to the coffee shop. They loved him too, but like a distant older brother (actual age aside), not as a lonely kid who might secretly want to play too.

They've never gotten to meet this Scott Summers. None of the X-Men have. And that's a real tragedy.

stan having severe issues from his dad and those years of being homeless that we keep on getting more info on but never really getting confronted on (the drifter catalogue and tijuana incident...), him being completely alone for like twenty years when running the shack before soos comes along to the point that 1998 is noted as his low point, and him not really learning about bill+what he did to ford until ages after he killed him if he ever did get the full context

while i think amnesia and everyone seeing him as a hero actually helped with stan's 'i'm a worse version of my brother' thing its still a lingering issue too and we now got him being insecure over his own hands

ford being immediately thrown from 'being tortured by bill' to 'being stuck in the multiverse and being chased by bounty hunters constantly', him fully expecting himself to die when destroying bill, and him only now being safe for the first time in 30 years ....relatively safe, he's still in constant danger because of course he is

idk in the end the series wants them to be happy and they deserve it, its why i wasn't too worried about the book being like 'ooh bill is back!! and the book is haunting ford' thing cos i knew they'll be ok

So there I am 12 years old, I don't know how the word Cicada is pronounced, and I don't even know its a kind of bug, but I have seen it used in a sentence like "the cicadas are singing". So OBVIOUSLY I assume its a kind of bird, and my brain simply starts autocorrecting the word to CHICKADEE every single time I see it.

Now I'm 24 and I have in fact figured out what a cicada is at this point. But even so I struggle to not read the word as chickadee every single time
