Chris looks after Buck's retreating form, an expression on his face that Eddie can't really name. Thoughtful, sort of, but maybe wistful is a better word. Eddie shuffles to stand next to his chair, runs his fingers through his hair. "What're you thinking about, mijo?" Chris is quiet for another moment, and then tilts his head up to look at Eddie. "Can I tell you a secret?" Eddie nods, because he wants to be the kind of dad that Chris can trust and come to, but he also inhales a steadying breath, because he has absolutely no idea what this could be. "Anything." "I never know if I want pancakes or waffles until Buck guesses one," Chris says. "I just like how happy he is when he gets it right."

Eddie's glad he took the breath because it gets knocked right back out of him.
