I was gonna wait till I posted her ref then make this but sadly I’m way to impatient :,D
Xing suxaun belongs to the lovely @littlethingsrae
This is Shui liu, another one of tangs adopted children and token mom friend.
Since both of them are therapists I really got attached to the idea that they studied at the same school or something before eventually ending up as colleagues. Also shui used to be way different back in the day so I just imagine him having such whiplash at how different she acts.
Tumblr media
Also she’s a demon and you bet the way he found that out was just as unannounced.
And because I don't like just posting sketches here's a little drawing of younger shui :>
Tumblr media
Some bonus stuff I ran out of time and energy to draw-
---
Xing:“hey liu, where did you get these nice jars?“
Shui:“oh those are just some potion bottles from Lao tzu I got back when I was a celestial warrior, no worries I cleaned them!“
Xing:“wait..you were a what-„
Shui:“Yeah he owed me a few things.“
Xing:“LAO TZU OWED YOU??“
Shui:“HAH- He actually still owes me can you believe that?“
---
Xing:“Hey some guy walked in asking for you. Short,glasses,looks like he hasn’t slept in two weeks. You know him? Is he one of your patients?“
Shui:“Oh that’s just Arthur, he’s my ex husband! He’s a real sweetheart just a little awkward no worries! He probably just wanted to talk about the kids.“
Xing:“ok… when did you get married let alone divorce??..wait you had kids-“
Shui:“ they are just the sweetest little guppie’s! You should meet them sometime they are adorable!“
Xing:“DONT DODGE THE QUESTION-„
---
Shui:“everything alright there? You look worried.“
Xing:“I just saw that fire kid that attacked the weather station climb into your house through a window with a bunch of those bull robots-„
Shui:“Oh you mean redson? No worries raindrop that’s just how he likes to get inside, he’s actually Arthur’s student so this happens all the time!“
Shui:“…“
Xing:“…“
Xing:“You enjoy my confusion about your life don’t you?“
Shui:“I very much do, yes.“
—
A day is never boring in her household, will her poor colleague get roped into the shenanigans? (Spoiler: he will, he so will be. This family has already claimed them in their name so don’t fight just accept it xing suxaun, hope you like babysitting-)
Congrats you made it to the end, here have some sillies:

Together forever – Arven x Reader
Together forever – Arven x Galarian!Reader
First post okkk, I genuinely didn’t know what to make the title, and I hate this so much cause I started writing in Y/n’s POV instead of Narrators POV and I can’t write for Y/n’s POV like ever it’s so bad. I’m not happy with this at all I’m probably gonna re-write this like one day. Also I didn’t really know how to write the second part (after the line) so that part was rushed and not as well-written as the first part was. Also reader is gn, if I used she/her or he/him anywhere where I should have used they/them pls lmk,
Warnings(?): Kissing(really light), cringe(extremely), sensitive reader(reader cries like 5 times I think) I don’t think there’s anything else and none of these are really ‘warnings’ so yea!
Words: 1 820(including stuff above the line), 1 690(excluding stuff above the line)
………………………………………………………………………………
             This week was graduation week. All my seniors were overjoyed at the fact they were finally graduating. Several graduation parties were being held right before the last day of school since final exams had just ended. I was of course happy too, I could finally be a senior myself and I was soon going to be a year closer to graduating. But a part of me just really wasn’t happy as well. The thought of all my friends leaving me behind didn’t sit right with me. I was the youngest in my friend group. Nemona, Penny, and Arven. They were all a year above me. The reason we became friends was well, I don’t really actually even remember. That’s not the point here though. The point is that all my close friends would be leaving me, I could deal with it during class since there were a few people in my class who I had taken a liking too and was able to be their partners during projects. But outside of class I relied on them. It made me anxious to even think about being all alone again. I didn’t know what to do. I stared at the clock it was almost time for class. Had I really been awake from 11pm all the way till 6am? I usually fell asleep easily thinking about all sorts of things. It was easy for me to fall asleep; in fact I enjoyed it, being able to close your eyes and not have to worry about anything.
             I dragged my feet into class, the day was spent mainly fooling around, playing bored games, etc. Nothing really interesting. I dozed of majority of the time, or just listened to my classmates talking about what they were going to do during summer break and how we all should meet up. If you ask me the idea wasn’t bad, but I’d rather sleep in.
              I opened my eyes as I heard the bell ring for break. I hurriedly got up from my seat and rushed over to the area me and my friends usually sat at. I waited for a bit. And waited some more. . . .It didn’t seem like they were coming, they were probably on that field trip they were talking about. Apparently they were going today morning I think and are coming back on the last day of school. Must be nice. I got up from the place I was sitting at and walked around while eating my lunch. I settled for sitting in a corner and just watch the younger students run around and play tag until the bell rang.
             The rest of the day was pretty boring just going around from class to class and listening to student’s gossip. Eventually though I had arts. The teacher had requested us to draw something that came from our hearts. Whatever that meant. I stared at the blank sheet of paper I had gotten and thought of what I could even draw. Before I even knew it I started drawing, a boy I think. I couldn’t really tell yet. I was simply just drawing what I felt like I should. All of a sudden I stared back down at the paper and saw a boy, or maybe it was a girl? The hair seemed familiar almost too familiar. My cheeks felt hot as I realized who I started drawing, I crumpled up the drawing and threw it away. Screw my brain. I only had 10 more minutes to draw something. I eventually grabbed another paper and quickly sketched out an Umbreon and Espeon and handed it.
             I walked out of class and walked to my dorm, oh my Arecus was I lonely. I should probably try and make some friends in my grade next year. I fiddled with the keys to my dorm and walked inside closing the door behind me. I took off my shoes and crawled onto my bed. I stared at the wall and my stomach was making funny knots. It didn’t hurt but it sure didn’t feel good either. I thought I was having a stomach ache or something of that sort but it didn’t feel the same. This either happened from the thought of being lonely or whatever I was doing in art class. I turned around I threw my head into my pillow before I felt my phone vibrating. I groaned as I opened it. It was from the gc with me and my friends. They had apparently been messaging in there for like what 10 minutes now? I don’t know how I just realized. I opened the gc and scanned over the messages.
Arven Hey buddy! How ya doing?
-10 minutes ago
Nemona HI YN ARE YOU AWAKE OR DID U SLEEP THROUGH ALL YOUR CLASSES AGAIN ??
-5 minutes ago
Penny Calm down it’s been 5 minutes plus its 4pm, they’re probably heading back to their dorm.
-5 minutes ago
Arven But what if something happened? They usually respond really quickly even if they’re in class
-4 minutes ago
Nemona Exactly
-4 minutes ago
Penny What’s your point you imbeciles
-4 minutes ago
Arven Ouch words hurt penny
-3 minutes ago
Penny And idc
-1 minute ago
               Weren’t they all in the same place? Why were they communicating in a group chat.. I stared at the messages. I didn’t really know what to say and you were too tired to even reply back. But it was obvious I had read it by now so I quickly typed a quick good night to the group chat and set my phone aside, not bothering to see what they had said afterwards.
             I changed out of my uniform and into something else and jumped onto my bed as I closed my eyes. But same thing as last night, I couldn’t sleep. I found myself wanting to cry at the thought of being lonely again. I didn’t want to be alone, or for them to go, I really loved them. I loved how energetic Nemona could be, I admired her for that. I also really loved Penny and how sweet she could be underneath all that ice. I especially loved Arven, I couldn’t really pinpoint why but I knew I did. Just thinking of him made my heart flutter. At some point I started crying into my pillow, it was just too much for me to handle at the time.
………………………………………………………………………………
             The whole week had passed with the same schedule. Today they were finally graduating and you’d be a senior. The morning half of your classes was some-what fun, I wish I could enjoy it as much as my classmates had been. I hated the thought of being alone, but I had to accept it. The bell rang and I got up, your vision was blurry, though there weren’t any tears in it and my chest started hurting. Everything felt un-real. Maybe I was being dramatic. I got up from my seat as the bell rang. I was walking to the table me and my friends usually sat at. My walking came to a halt and I turned around. I can’t really explain what came over me but I really didn’t wanna see them right now. I was sort of starting to regret walking away but I couldn’t help it, I just needed some space at the moment.
             The rest of the day passed by fairly quickly, I was just lying down on my bed while watching tv till all of a sudden my phone started vibrating. I hurriedly reached for it and checked it. It was a message from Arven.
“Hey buddy where you at?”
“At my dorm, why?”
“Aren’t you gonna come orr”
“Oh Yea ok I’ll be down there give me a minute”
“cya” liked by y/n
             You changed into one of your outfits and put on your shoes and ran out of your dorm closing the door behind you. You went outside and started searching for your friends. You found them eventually standing near a fountain, talking.
“Hey”
“Hi”
“Hey Y/n!”
“Hey buddy”
             We all stared at each other awkwardly in silence till Nemona spoke up.
“I’m just gonna get some food be right back”
“I’ll go with you wait” Nemona ran off with Penny trailing behind.
“So…where were you all day?”
“I was just walking around, kinda forgot you all came back from your trip today sorry”
“Oh, I wanted to give you something”
“Hm?”
             Arven grabbed something from his backpack and handed it to me. It was a…a pokeball? A cherish one to be exact. I grabbed the pokeball and examined it carefully.
“Go ahead, open it”
“Oh, there’s something inside?”
“Y/n…it’s a pokeball…why would I give you an empty one…”
“Oh.”
             I threw the pokeball out excited to see what pokemon was inside. It was a… an applin? I looked back at him, his face was a light read color and I looked back at the applin. I examined a bit more till it finally hit me. My face was burning and I was sure he could feel the heat radiating off of me by now.
“You love me?” Why am I so stupid? Of course that’s why he gave me an applin, there’s no other explanation! I’m from Galar, and he just came back from a trip to Galar!
“Yea, I totally get if you don’t feel the same wa-“
             I cut him off by placing a kiss on his cheek. “I love you too! I never would have thought you liked me back..I guess that’s why I ignored you guys when you all came back, I couldn’t stand seeing you all at the time…I especially couldn’t see you, my chest felt tight whenever I even thought of you leaving so I just avoided you all, I’m so-“I was cut off by him placing a kiss on my face and pulling away.
“You talk too much sometimes, you know? I already knew that you idiot! And, I’ll never leave you, so come on let’s go find those two.” He said grabbing my hand to go search for Penny and Nemona together.

It’s funny how quickly people form habits without really meaning to. You don’t realize you have a new favorite word till someone points out you’ve been using it so much. You don’t realize you’re addicted to caffeine till you get headaches from withdrawals. You don’t realize you can’t live without dessert till the sugar crash hits. And in the same way, Renjun didn’t realize he had gotten used to your company till he’s waiting outside your lecture hall with an almost expectant inclination to see you.
A lot of it had to do with who you were as a person. You had pretty much infiltrated Renjun’s life, even though he still kept you at an arm’s distance. One day, he had walked into the library and found you with Jaemin, while the two of you had your heads together over a laptop and a huge gift basket in the making on the table. Jaemin wasn’t the kind of person who invited a lot of new people into his life; so he must have really trusted you because it wasn’t the last time Renjun saw the two of you together.
But worse than Jaemin was Donghyuck. Renjun was pretty sure that since you’d asked him out, you had probably hung out more with Donghyuck than with him. Almost as if seeing Renjun was just an excuse for you to hang out with him, as you had often joked. It was as if the two of you were kindred spirits, long lost best friends who had finally found one another. Donghyuck would invite you everywhere, get up to no good with you in tow; and before Renjun knew it, the two of you were even planning parties together. Neither Donghyuck nor you needed Renjun as an excuse to hang out with one another anymore, and it amused him. A part of him wondered if Donghyuck was playing along to help his bigger cause. But his friend always looked so genuinely happy around you that any ulterior motive he might have seemed to have been forgotten.
“Why can’t the sun always be like this?” you said as you laid on the grass using your backpack as a pillow. Your hand was reaching out over your face, your fingers wiggling as you played with shadows.
While you soaked in the sun, Renjun chose to sit under the shade of a tree, sketching away in his book, completing his assignment before his next class.
“You wouldn’t appreciate it as much if it were always like this.” Renjun replies, not looking away from his work. He much preferred paint over charcoal, but he had to admit that the scratching sounds it made against the grains of paper--coupled with the chirping of birds and gentle ruffling of leaves around him--was really relaxing. As was your company.
“Hmm. But it’s still nice to see it without fine dust couture. I like seeing it fully in the nude.” you say, a soft, funny smile on your face while your eyelashes cast shadows on your cheeks.
“Pervert.” Renjun accuses, smiling as he drew. It just makes you laugh and lay sideways to face him. You prop up your head on your hand.
“I’m the sun, Huang Renjun. Now draw me like one of your French girls.” you say in a comical voice and Renjun actually laughs without reservation.
“Do you have any more classes?” he asks, fixing his black and gold rimmed glasses over his nose.
“Nope. I’m done for the day. Yeri’s supposed to pick me up, so I’m just waiting for her call.” you say, rolling onto your back once more, resuming your dance with the shadows.
Renjun hums a reply as he sketches, but really, he’s thinking that he hadn’t formally met Yeri. At least not yet. He had just had two very awkward run-ins with her the couple of times he had been to your apartment. Come to think of it, he hadn’t been to your place since that last time. And you had never been to his place at all.
It wasn’t on accident, though. All of it had been by Renjun’s really convoluted design. He had met a few of your friends on campus in the passing, sure. But you were more a part of his life that he was yours. That is exactly what Renjun had planned. Lately, however, that plan seemed to be fading away into the ether. Slowly but surely dispersing from memory till it was more or less abandoned.
Because Renjun did not realize that he had adopted you like a habit. Any time he saw a witty meme, he had to send it your way because you would text back with an equally witty reply that scratched Renjun’s intellectual itch. Any time Jisung would bring home a baguette, he would take a picture for you with a caption like ‘Francophile life going strong’. The two of you had even developed a silly game where you would look at different marketing taglines and wonder if it would still work to sell condoms.
‘Nike. Just do it.’ Renjun had once texted.
‘That is a low hanging fruit, Huang Renjun.’ you had replied.
‘Okay, true. But how about Imax: Thing big.’ he had texted back.
‘Hmm, almost but not quite. I need something stronger.’
‘BMW: Designed for driving pleasure.’ he had actually found himself scrolling through a long list of taglines while his assignment laid forgotten.
‘Oof. Now you’ve found the sweet spot. Keep going.’ Renjun had smiled at your reply and had found himself hurriedly looking for something better.
‘Geico: So easy, a caveman could do it.’
‘Mmm, didn’t think you were a kinky boy, Huang Renjun. Go on…”
Renjun had actually laughed out loud, making Jisung look up at him quizzically and replied ‘1010 Wins: you give us 22 minutes, we’ll give you the world.’
‘Yessss! Right there, right there!’
Renjun hadn’t even realized he was grinning wide and standing up from his desk, a list of taglines open both on his laptop and his phone while he scrolled to find the perfect response that would make you happy. ‘Rice Krispies: Snap! Crackle! Pop!’
‘So close, so close, I am almost there!’
‘Washington Post: Democracy dies in darkness.’
‘THAT’S IT, THAT DID IT, THAT HIT THE SPOT!’
Renjun had actually belly laughed at the entire conversation. He didn’t remember the last time he had laughed this way because even Jisung was looking at him with an amused smile, asking “What’s so funny?”
So yes, Renjun had adopted you like a habit. But it wasn’t just through text. When you weren’t the one waiting for him on campus with a couple of cups of coffee in hand, he found he would go looking for you. You would spend all your free time together, just like this. He would find himself missing you on days he didn’t get to see you. He found himself disappointed when you didn’t have time for him because you and Donghyuck were on a very important mission or you had to meet your friends or you had extra work that was demanding your attention. You had just inserted yourself in his life in such a manner that Renjun didn’t even notice.
Perhaps you had nothing to do with it, but Renjun’s life had been treating him pretty well, too. Maybe he was more inspired these days, because his work was getting better and his professors were noticing. His painting instructor had held him back after class one day and offered him an internship at his studio. While it wasn’t huge, it was enough that Renjun had thrown his fist in the air in celebration as soon as he had left class. And you were the first person he texted and he was glad he did because you had texted back a freakout that made him grin like an idiot. You had come to see him as soon as your own class had ended and you had flung yourself in his arms and had jumped around excitedly before dragging him along so you could buy him an artist’s apron as a present.
“Do you have any more classes?” you ask him as you stare at the evening sun through your fingers.
Renjun’s about to reply when he is interrupted by the sound of your phone buzzing in your pocket. You fish it out and sit up, telling Renjun “Hold on…” before answering it. “Are you here, Yeri?”
Renjun goes back to scratching away in his pad, thinking. Maybe he should introduce himself now when Yeri comes to pick you. But what would he say? ‘Hi, I’m Y/N’s friend?’ Everyone on campus knew that the two of you weren’t exactly just friends. It was thanks to your stunt during that one online class, where he’d met you. ‘Hi, I’m Y/N’s boyfriend?’ But he wasn’t that, either. While the two of you had become pretty comfortable in each other’s company, you hadn’t really done anything, or had any serious talk about what you were. You two always found yourself tiptoeing “the line”. Actually, no. It was Renjun that tiptoed that line. After his two failed attempts to kiss you, the conversation had just not taken that turn ever again. You two hadn’t leveled up on the PDA front, either. Sure, you had cuddled into him in the back of the cab that one night, and he had half-carried you to your apartment till Yeri took you from the doorstep. But you didn’t seem to remember any of it, so it was basically back to square one. Sure, you had hugged him in joy when he had gotten the internship, but did it really count when the two of you hadn’t even held hands yet? Aside from the innuendo-filled condom tagline talk, the two of you hadn’t really done anything that would constitute as… something a couple might do.
“Okay, but how long would it take?” you’re saying into the phone, a gentle crease growing between your eyebrows. Whatever you heard back must have been distasteful because you grimace. “Okayyyy, Yeri, I’m hanging up now!” you say pointedly and groan, laying back into the grass.
Renjun chuckles “All good?”
“Yeri has brought home a ‘distraction’.” you say, making air quotes, and a face like you’ve tasted something sour. “I’m banished from my own home for the evening.”
Renjun looks up.
He thinks about his next words carefully. “Um… what are you gonna do?”
You groan once more and say “I’m probably going to crash at Lia’s till my exile is over. So inconvenient!”
“You could come over to mine.”
Renjun didn’t know how it happened, how he found the courage to think it and then actually say it out loud, but now there’s no going back because the two of you are walking down the hallway to his place. He doesn’t know why, but his throat is a little dry and he peeks over his shoulder to see that you seem a bit nervous as well. He takes a deep breath and decides to break the tension.
“Here we are.” He says as he punches in the code. He holds the door open “Hello, MTV. Welcome to my crib.”
It works because it makes you smile. “So, this is where the magic happens.”
“Mhmm, but I hope to God my roommates have at least attempted to clean it up some, because I did text them a head’s up.”
“Lead the way, Huang Renjun.” you say and he does. He walks you into his living room where Jisung is currently sitting, playing video games. The smell of something delicious makes his head turn towards the kitchen where he finds Jaemin.
“Hey, Y/N!” he calls out then wipes his hands on a towel before coming in to give you a hug.
“Hi, Y/N!” Jisung says without looking up.
Renjun is amused and a little confused. Perhaps you and Jaemin got even closer while he wasn’t noticing, but Jisung? When had the two of you met? By the looks of it, Jisung was comfortable enough with you that he wasn’t even minding his manners and greeting you properly. Probably because he was too busy dwindling his thumbs on his controller furiously.
“Damn, Jisung, you’re really going at it, huh?” you say to him easily.
“Mhmm. I would’ve been doing even better if Jaemin hadn’t interrupted and kicked me out of my own room because you were coming over.”
There is a two second silence before Jisung’s audience of three begins talking at the same time.
“Jisung!” Renjun yelps, bringing his fingers to the bridge of his nose.
“Oh, no, we aren’t going to like… do anything--” you find yourself explaining at the same time, face heating up.
“Jisungieeee!” Jaemin also sings out to scold, yet he grins as he mock-chokes the boy.
“You are so dead.” Renjun gives the back of Jisung’s head a death stare.
“Nooo, our Jisungie means well, don’t you, Jisungie?” Jaemin coos while Jisung dodges his kisses.
Renjun shakes his head and places a hand to your arm to guide you along. “Let’s go.”
“I’ve made food if you crazy kids get hungry!” Jaemin calls after you and it’s the most animated he’s been in a while.
His friends being, well, his friends was probably worth it because Renjun is feeling a lot better as he brings you into his room. It had been a while since he had brought a girl over and looking about, he can tell that his mates did a good job at hastily cleaning it.
“Damn, Huang Renjun. You’re a clean boy.” you’re saying as you look about. “I thought you’d be the artfully messy type.”
Renjun grins as he runs his fingers through his hair. “We can mess it up together if you’d like.” But Renjun mentally smacks himself in the head as soon as the words leave his mouth because you’ve looked up at him and quickly looked away, muttering something awkwardly.
“I… I didn’t mean that. I just meant with like, paint and, like…” Renjun blows air out of his mouth and then your eyes meet. Before you know it, you both are giggling at each other because the awkwardness is probably making you a bit delirious.
Renjun watches as you take a deep breath to stop the giggles and turn to start looking around. “Oooh. Mr. Fancypants is a tea connoisseur.” you say as you run your hands over his teabag display box.
Renjun chuckles “Do you want me to make you some?”
“Sure. Let’s have tea, Mr. Fancypants.” you take a seat on his wheelie chair and your eyes go to the artist’s apron you had bought him that is currently hanging on an easel. You give it a fond smile.
“What flavor would you like?” Renjun asks as he puts the kettle on and sets up two mugs.
“Umm… I don’t know tea. I’m a coffee drinker.” you reply, your fingers tracing over the pictures he had at his desk.
“I’ll make you a simple chamomile, then. I’ve seen you and Jaemin enabling each other’s coffee habits and I don’t approve.” he knots his eyebrows.
“Oh no, no, no. Jaemin is on a different level. I took a sip of his coffee by mistake once and my entire life flashed before my eyes. I don’t know if that boy drinks coffee or straight up cocaine.”
Renjun bites his smile because he’s still holding onto the look of disapproval. “That would explain the random spikes and falls in his energy.” he says as he pours out the water in the mugs and seeps the teabags. “Here you go.” he sets your mug on the desk and takes a seat on his bed.
You take a sip “So, which one is your bunk?”
“Top.” Renjun also wants to make an innuendo but he stops himself because the awkwardness surrounding the fact that you and him are alone in his room has only just subsided with the tea.
“Isn’t the bottom bunk more comfortable?” you muse as you drink. You seem to be enjoying your tea because you haven’t set it aside yet.
“Of course it is. It’s why Jisung has it.” he comments, cocking his eyebrow. “And I sleep here on this bed.” He pats where he’s sat.
You grin as you sip then quickly wipe your chin as some tea spills through your smile. “Where do you keep all your paintings?”
“In the studio. On that top bunk. Behind that door. At my grandma’s house.” he lists off on his fingers.
“Why behind the door? If I had your talent, I’d basically cover every bit of my wall in my art. Like the most egomaniacal artist in the world.” you fantasize, looking up at the ceiling.
Renjun chuckles. “I kinda like my space to be a bit cleaner, you know? Because I’m always around art. It kinda helps with my imagination, having a clean environment. It’s almost like a clean canvas.”
“Interesting.” you’ve said and it sounds like you genuinely mean it. “It’s still a bit sad. All the work you’ve created should have a home. It shouldn't be hidden away behind doors or on top bunks.”
“You can give some of them a home if you’d like. If you have space, I mean.” Renjun gives you a fond look. You haven’t replied but you’ve set your mug down and looked at him with a very tender look in your eyes. You stand up.
“I wanna see your bed.”
Renjun grins. “Be my guest.”
“Ooooh.” you make an excited squeal, almost like you're about to enter Dexter’s Laboratory. You plop yourself on it and bounce up and down, almost as if to check the pliability of it.
“So this is where the magic happens.” you giggle and then Renjun finds your gaze moving to a picture frame on his headboard. “Is that your grandma?”
“It is.” Renjun smiles as he watches you pick your feet up and make yourself comfortable.
“She looks exactly like you.” you say, looking back at him with an affectionate look.
“A lot of people say that. People in school used to think I’m adopted because I looked nothing like my parents.” Renjun scoots back to sit next to you.
“Are you close to your parents?” you ask gently, looking at him.
Renjun looks away.
The two of you hadn’t had that many deep conversations. And anytime you did, he had found a way around it so that nothing was shared, nothing was learnt.
But no one had ever asked him that… not in so many words. He finds himself shrugging and responding before he can stop himself. “Nah. They don’t even talk to me. They’ve never really cared.”
“How do you know that, Renjun?” you’re asking him in a very soft voice. The kind of voice that has Renjun sharing more than he wants.
“They pretty much abandoned me very young,” Renjun laughs ironically. “They would fight all the time, you know? Like, they really would go at each other one moment then make up the next moment. They kind of forgot they had a son.” Renjun finds himself saying while his eyes fixate on a loose thread on Jisung’s bedsheet. He realizes he’s warm and comfortable and that’s when he notices that you’ve put an arm around him.
“That must have been so hard, to go through that.” you’re speaking to him so softly and your head and your body is angled towards him, giving him all your attention while Renjun talks into the abyss.
“They were just like… kinda dysfunctional, you know? They fought like crazy and I had to hide away so I wouldn’t hear them. And then the next day, they’d be in each other’s arms like nothing happened. They would pretend like everything was all right. Like the trauma they gave me meant nothing.”
You’re not speaking anymore, only listening. Your hand around him has started to gently stroke his arm. Your other hand softly combs through his hair.
“It was such a vicious cycle and they wouldn’t stop. I think they were kinda addicted to it. They would’ve been happy living like that with each other if it weren’t for me.” He had never shared so much with anyone. But now that he had started, it was difficult to stop.
“Renjun…” you say empathetically and pull him into you. Renjun pauses for a moment, but decides to give in. What did it matter, anyway? He rests his head on your shoulder.
“If it weren’t for my grandma, I wouldn’t even be alive, you know? She saved me from all of that and took me in. She raised me. It wasn’t even her responsibility, but she raised me.”
You are holding him to you and soothingly stroking his hair when you say “Then I think your grandma is the luckiest person in this world. Because she got to see you grow up to be such a good man.”
Renjun feels a lump in his throat grow and before he knows it, there are tears stinging in his eyes. You turn your head and press a kiss into his temple and slowly rock him. It was odd, being here like this, because Renjun realizes that this was the first time you had kissed him. But more than anything else, it was the first time someone had held him like this.
The last time he remembered being held was probably when he was a child, and it had been his grandma. No one since had held him in their arms to listen to him, to comfort him, to love him without any conditions. No one had tried to take his pain away without wanting something in return. The thought puts more tears in his eyes and he finds himself leaning his weight into you.
He allows you to hold him and comfort him and coo at him. You’re speaking to him gently but Renjun isn’t hearing your words. He’s only concentrating on the soothing sound of your voice and how melodic it is. He liked hearing you talk. He’s concentrating on how you’re rocking him, and how the movement is slowly lulling him. He liked how warm and soft you were and how protective your arms were. He liked the smell of chamomile on your breath. Had you enjoyed chamomile? He thought you had. Maybe you would’ve enjoyed a different flavor more. Renjun decides he should make you an Earl Grey next time; it would probably be better suited to your caffeine tastes. Maybe you wouldn’t like Earl Grey as much either, but it would be nice to discover that bit about you. He’d make you try all the flavors till he learnt which one your favorite was.
“How come I never saw your cat?” He asks sleepily after you’ve been quiet for a while.
“Hmm?” you ask, confused.
“Your cat. Galbi. How come I didn’t see him when I came over?” Renjun can feel your smile against his temple.
“Oh. Yeri had dropped him over at the vet’s that day. Do you want to meet him?” you ask him.
“Yeah, it would be nice to meet him.” Renjun says and brings an arm up to cuddle closer into you.
“Okay. Next time you come over, you can meet him… shoulder gangster Renjun.” you’re only whispering at him now as you tease him.
“Mmm.” is the only reply Renjun can manage as he chuckles lazily. He didn’t even feel like killing Donghyuck for telling you about that because he feels so good like this, in your arms. Renjun hasn’t even noticed that you’ve laid him down till he realizes how horizontal he is.
It felt nice. Being held by someone, being protected by someone, being comforted by someone. Your hands haven’t stopped soothing him for a single moment ever since they started. Renjun hadn’t even noticed that you’d put the covers on him. Or that you were kissing the top of his head till he feels the warmth. It all felt so nice. He barely registers that your shirt is wet from his tears. All he feels are the relaxing patterns you’re drawing onto his skin. It’s the last thing he feels as he drifts off. And though you're gone in the morning, Renjun can swear this is the most sound sleep he's slept in many nights. He feels a thousand times lighter, like someone had lifted a heavy weight off of his chest and he was finally breathing fully.
He smiles as he grabs his phone and sees your name right on the top of his notification list. He reads your message:
‘Hey, shoulder gangster. Sorry I left without telling you but you were sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to wake you. I wanted to ask you something AND YOU CAN TOTALLY SAY NO. But my brother’s hosting a spring art festival of some sort at my parent’s house this weekend. A lot of his artist friends from his company will be there. Do you maybe wanna come with me?’
And there it was.
Yes, it was funny how quickly people form habits without really meaning to. And in his new habit, Renjun had forgotten the real reason he was with you in the first place.
Eyes on the fucking prize, Renjun thinks as his reality comes crashing back on him.

Pink Chains (cont.)
Kyotani owns a grunge /punk apparel shop after leaving the Sendai Frogs after a incident with the Black Jackals. He designs his own clothes and hires Oikawa & Iwaizumi as his employees. Everything goes smoothly for awhile, till you walk in; pink dress, big smile , and bubbly personality. His whole life stops in that moment.
Punk! Kyotani x Bubbly F! reader. Aka my favorite cliche trope. It lives in my head every second of the day.
Brief Violence
The rest of the first half and all ive got so far ! / first half at the bottom !!
Tumblr media
Your home was a cheap studio apartment not far from the college; a small studio with a cute bed by the window , a table with a bunch of markers with a big sketchbook sitting in the middle . You had the basic needs and a little couch in the corner but no tv , but there was a little pink cat bed next to the couch.
Kyo stuffed his hands in his pockets looking around the studio , it was weird being in a small studio for him since he has a home . Everything seemed shoved into one or two spots. He sat down on the couch and you were looking a little embarrassed, fussing with your dress .
“I know its not much but ! Its my little space heh, Mocha is probably in her little house sleeping. She will wake up soon though now that im home !!!” You picked up some clothes out of a basket. “Ill be right back , make yourself at home!”
“Okay sweetie.” He leaned forward dipping his head down to look in the cat hut . He could see a tiny kitten sleeping in it and smirked leaning back into the couch getting comfortable, well as much as he could in tight jeans. Kyo peeled his jacket off and pulled his phone out to check it .

Kyo put his phone on the table when he saw you come out of the restroom, you were wearing a red panda shirt and matching shorts . Mocha emerged from her home too and meowed for attention . Kyo could not stop looking at you, so cute, so , so cute..
“Mocha! “ you bent down and picked up the brown kitten taking a seat next to Kyo to show him. “Shes a rescue ! I saw her all alone and i just had to help her.”
Kyo took the kitten from you and set it on his lap to pet her. “Shes cute” he leaned back tugging at his jeans trying to relax.
“Whats wrong?” You asked, Kyos lap to pet the happy kitten.
“Had these jeans on all day, i dont want to.. make you uncomfortable.”
Mocha nuzzled into Kyos stomach getting comfy and looked like she was not movin for any reason.
“I dont mine but.. you better do it fast because Mocha is not gonna care that you wanna take em off.”
Gently he lifted to kitten to fuss with his belt , you giggled getting up and grabbing your sketchbook. “Can i show you.. heh my drawings.”
“Of course sweetie, you draw?” He asked , pulling his jeans down with one hand and Mocha in the other. Kyo had on black and pink boxers . “Ugn finally..” he set Mocha back on his lap and placed the jeans on his jacket feeling a little unsure if he should have taken em off.
You hid behind your sketchbook when you saw him on the couch in his boxers. Kyo had tone legs from volleyball and a few tattoos on his legs along with some bruises and knicks.
Kyo looked down at Mocha feeling a little embarrassed. Why were skinny jeans so damn uncomfortable after a while? He asked as he pet the little kitten.
You sat down with him criss cross with the sketchbook on your lap. “Yep! I'm in college for art and design. I want to one day get picked up by a clothing store and have my drawings on shirts”
Kyo leaned towards you looking over the sketches with wide eyes. They might have been all cute things; like kittens, red pandas, hearts, patterns and space but they were so damn good. “You have a real talent these are awesome.”
“Really?!?”
“Yes sweetie. Id put these on my shirts. Oh that reminds me..”
“Oh my gosh!! Kyo that would be so cool!” Gently you placed the sketchbook on the table and looked at Kyo, he was a looking a little unsure of himself. “Whats wrong..?”
“Why exactly did you come into my store ? Ive never seen you in it before”
“ uhm Kyo.. you have a shirt in the window with kittens on it.. so.. “
He laughed wrapping his arm around you making you laugh too. “My ‘Sad Day’ shirt? With all the grumpy cats?”
“Its so cute, how could I not!!!” You hit his chest lightly not liking his tone.
“Okay okay.” Lightly he grabbed one of your hands holding it close. “Happy you did, really.” His eyes drifted off you and around the room.
“Kyo?” You inched closer, picking Mocha up leaning down to place her in her hut.
Kyo picked you up and sat you down on his lap facing him, placing his hands at your hips. He leaned back spreading his legs. “Yes? Sweetie..?” You could feel he was a little hard, it was really hot between your legs..
“Im happy i did too.. i really like you.”
His heart thumped a few times. “First girl to say that to me…” he rested his elbow on the arm of the couch to support his head. “I wasn't the nicest guy in highschool, i'll never forget the day Yahaba slammed me into that wall and told me to get my shit together.”
You looked a little sad at his words, Kyo only mentioned his aggression one other time but even then he sounded upset and full of regret.
“Do you want to talk about it?” You asked him , cupping his cheeks so he would look at you. His eyes told you ‘yes, yes please.’ But.. “No, i just want to hold you if that's okay.”
“Okay. If we fall asleep my alarm is going to go off at 8 so sorry in advance.” You got comfortable on his lap and Kyo tipped your chin up so you were looking at him.
“Would you be more comfortable on the bed?”
“Yes i think so. I dont think i can sleep like this. Hehe.”
Kyo gripped your hips picking you up, he stepped over Mochas hut and brought you to the bed to lay down with you, his face a little red. You latched onto his sleeve closing your eyes and drifting off. “Night Kyo..”
“G’night sweetie..”
Fuck what was he doing ? Talking about it will help.. right? Kyo had to wait a bit before you were fully asleep to get up and grab his phone.
Kyotani/ Iwaizumi
Iwaizumi/ Yes
Kytotani/ keep this between us
Iwaizumi/ you didn't hit it and ditch did you?
Kyotani/ what? No.
Iwaizumi/ are you scared to make it official Kyo
Kyo stared at the text for a few minutes reading it over and over .
Iwaizumi/ is it the anger issues
He squeezed his phone and sat down on the couch dialing his phone.
“Im scared ill lash out or something”
“Mm.. when was the last time that happened again?”
“The Tourney against the Black Jackals.”
“Ah yes, think Kei had to pry you off Bokuto or something right?”
“Yes… Iwaizumi i can't lash out at her. I just can't, i mentioned Yahaba and that day and she asked if i wanted to talk about it”
“You said ’no’, didn't you” Sigh “Kyotani she's not a threat, she's not an enemy . She's literally just a girl who likes you. Open up to her”
“How.”
“Uuhhmmmm, tell her you want to talk about it. I'm going to bed. You can do this Kyotani”
He hung up .
Kyo rubbed his face for a minute and glanced at you for a minute then back to his phone opening up Messages.
Kyotani/ Mattsun i know your asleep but invite Yahaba to the beach volleyball.
He set his phone down and very slowly made his way back to you. He wrapped his arms around your sleeping body and shut his eyes tight trying to sleep.
**
In the morning Kyo was awake early browsing on his phone, he stared at the screen for a minute before pressing Play on the video.
-flash back-
‘Another score for the Black Jackals!!! It is Match Point !!! ‘
The Sendai frogs were tired, sweaty and losing this Tournament. The Black Jackals were still full of energy and ready to go . It was a very hard game for both sides and Bokuto kept testing Kyotani, this was the first time he met the loud grey haired boy and he just did not like him. He knew Hinata but he did not like him too much.
Kyotani was doing better at keeping his temper under control and his team figured out how to hype him up without making him angry. Kei was not too fond of him but then again he did not really need to be, they just needed to be on the same page on the court.
That owl boy though, he was loud, annoying , and just testing him. Kyotani knew it, every serve, block, and spike was for him to clear or get rid of . Kyotani got hit with the ball a couple times and thats when he lost it.
‘Kyotani has taken another hit from the ball!!!’ Yelled the annoucer .
“Hey hey hey?!! Eye on the ball yea!??”
“Dont let it get to you” Kei told him .
“.........”
“..Kyot-“
He was on the other side of the net ontop of Bokuto punching him .The whole building was dead silent.
The last thing Kyotani remembered was hearing the announcer describe what was happening and Kei pulling him off of Bokuto.
He quit the Sendai Frogs that day, took his last check and left not looking back. He opened an apparel shop he called The Dog House and got in touch with his old highschool teammates starting over.
-end flashback-
You woke up to see Kyos hand on your head , you were not fully awake so you just laid there enjoying the nice feeling on your head. Mocha had also joined you in bed and was between you both sleeping. Kyo smelled like leather… an old leather that was renewed, it made your nose crinkle a bit. Looking up you saw he had a collar tattoo with spikes on it on his wrist . It was kinda silly but kinda cute too , although you wondered what it meant.
A minute later your alarm went off and you whimpered letting Kyo know you were awake. He let go of your head to slam your alarm clock off. He looked upset or angry in the face, and he was still staring at his phone.
Slowly you got up and gently placed Mocha on your pillow so you could scoot closer to him. “Kyo? Did you get any sleep?”
“I have to show you something.” He said as he turned his phone to you pressing Play again.
You were holding the phone now, it was alot heavier than yours . You had watched the video a couple times and everytime Kyo punched Bokuto you flinched. After the second time you placed the phone down to sit facing him.
“Kyo..”
He looked the other way running his hand through his hair.
“Kyo?”
He wanted to run away so bad. Start over again. Someplace without people like -
“Kyo.”
You were between his legs now , he had his knees up and was resting his elbows on them and still did not look at you. Dammit Mad Dog just say something to her, she's right there, dont shut her out.. dont shut..
You grabbed his face turning his head, kissing him, catching him very off guard. Kyo fell back taking you with him . You had no intention of stopping and just kissed him more and more even though he cursed between breaths. Kyo grabbed you lifting you up off his face and chest. You frowned at him and sat down on his lap once he let you go, cheeks flushed and very embarrassed.
“S..swee..sweetie”
“You aren't like that anymore!” You told him while you rubbed your eyes.
“Sweetie no don't cry please..” he sat up taking you in his arms rubbing your back in circles. “Sshh..”
“Please.. talk to me..” You sniffled into his neck squeezing him tight.
Kyo was shaking .. you were shaking . He laid his head on your neck starting from the beginning.. the very beginning. Every few minutes he would stop to check if you were still crying. He would cup your face and wipe under your eyes and ask ‘Are you Afraid of Me’ and you shook your head saying ‘No’ every single time. You were both tearing up by the end of it, Kyotani told you about Yahaba, Highschool after Iwa & Kawa graduated , how he became a Pro and Bokuto. The look on his face just made you so sad and seeing you sad was something he never wanted to see.
“Sweetie.. how , how can.”
“I like you Kyo, a lot. I'm not scared, never will be.”
“I'm so scared ill lash out at you sweetie.”
You grabbed his hand holding it and running a hand up and down his sleeve while you talked. “Kyo.. you let me touch your wolves. When we first met in your shop i noticed you were rubbing it a lot , like you were worried or you thought id just out right touch it”
“I..”
You kissed him again and wiped your eyes free of stray tears. “I want to be with you Kyo, i wanna.. see red pandas with you”
He laughed at that and so did you.
“I already said i'd take you didint i?” He asked cupping your face .
“Just making sure you know i really wanna go heh..”
“I know sweetie, believe me i know.” Kyo kissed you and you blushed wrapping your arms around him.
The alarm went off again too.

Self Para 002:  I'm Feeling Helpless; the Damsels Are Depressed
Note: Okay so my version of self care is hurting my muses’, so I wrote this during all my kidney stuff as a way to like kinda get my mind off of it I debated  if I should post this because it really was just self indulgent but since it’s set in Luxor AU and one thing mentioned it is gonna come up later on, I’ll share. (Although this isn’t required reading to understand Balo (or Ches’s) character arcs in the slightest so please don’t feel any pressure, when the thing comes up you don’t need this context).
Word Count:  2,498
TWs: Abuse (referenced), HIV, Mental Health Struggles, Disownment, Ches’s horrible sense of humor
Sunlight poured through the windows of the study hall as Balo quietly sketched. She’d given up trying to get actual work done an hour ago; learning wasn’t happening - she was thinking way too much. While she knew it was important to stay focused - if her grades slipped, she’d no longer be allowed to participate in the sports she’d worked so hard to be allowed back into - it was hard sometimes. How could she pretend everything was okay a little over a month after her world fell apart? She knew she was expected to have it together, but things kept slipping through the cracks.
Sometimes Balo questioned what would have happened if she hadn’t synced her medications with Ches. By the time she’d whispered her diagnosis to her, the puzzle pieces had already been in place. The unspoken knowledge hanging the air until she had simply cleared it out. What would have happened if she hadn’t gone to the college freshman in hopes it’d help her to remember her medications back during the initial testing phase? Would she have even figured it out?
The longer she thought about it, the more she leaned towards yes.
How long would it be until everyone else caught on to exactly what was wrong with her? Her ability to pretend like everything was sunshine and rainbows had needed to be put on hold. Her insecurities shined through even more than usual in its place. How long would it be until Caitriona tired of her, or till Jack remembered he’d had better friends and phased her out? Would it be weeks or months until her siblings followed their parents’ lead and disassociated themselves from her too? And what would the rest of the Hundred Acre Woods chat say as they finally figured out that even her own parents didn’t even want her anymore? That she’d been so bad they needed to turn their backs on her. Had her mother found out about the fact she’d swore? Was it her karma for feeling the one emotion she’d been taught would make her a horrible person?
It only took one thought to get thrown back in the spiral, currents of fear dragging her under. She’d known she’d never be enough for her father, of course. She was too soft, too artistic, too dumb, or shamed for her knowledge, and she messed up consistently. Everything he despised, with the list of reasons growing ever longer as the days went on.
As the tears start to roll down her cheeks, Balo rapidly shuts her sketchbook so she can stuff it into her bag. Had anyone in the study hall noticed the shape she was in? She wasn’t sticking around to find out. The sooner she left, the better. She barely keeps herself from running through the study hall, and she only picks up her pace once she enters the crowded halls. The faces blur together as she rushes towards her room, any attempts to slow her down easily ignored as she focuses on just getting to her destination.
Once she’s in the common room, she tries her best to muffle her sniffles, unlocking her door as quietly as she can manage without disturbing her roommate. The last thing she needed was Jenevieve to see her like this. They weren’t close, and she couldn’t put on an act, not today, when she was back in the rabbit hole.
She shuts her door quietly, not even bothering to lock it as she drops her bag on her floor next to her desk. The tears are in full force by the time she sits down, and she pulls out her sketchbook again. She doesn’t have to wait long before an idea pops in her head, and she’s grabbing her charcoals from the drawer to get started. She doesn’t look up as she pours her emotions into the page; even as the sun begins to set, her blue eyes are fixated on the page as her charcoal moves across it.
It isn’t until her bedroom door creaks open does she glance away, her head whipping around to see who was disturbing her. She only starts to relax when she sees it’s Ches, although her relief is short-lived as her friend turns on her bedroom light and settles down on her bed. “You skipped dinner again. Are you feeling okay?”
“I wasn’t hungry.” Balo responds immediately, “I appreciate you checking on me, of course, but I’m okay! Perfect, actually! I’ve never ever been better, ever. I’m just working on a project. It’s just taking up a lot of time, I’m great!” It’s a lie, one she knows her friend will pick up on as soon as it leaves her mouth. Maybe she needed better lines, prettier words to distract from just how awful she felt. She doesn’t even have to watch Ches’s expression to know she knew better, and as the guilt creeps up on her for lying, the truth bursts out. “I can’t stop trying to figure out where I went wrong and how long it’ll be until things get worse. I had to do something to deserve everything going on, right? And what if whatever it was was so bad that everyone hates me?”
“B, if you did something that horrible, you’d know what it was. I promise you, fuck ups that big can’t be missed.”
“My parents thought...”
“Your father is a waste of oxygen, and your mother is... well, sometimes things are complicated.” The look on Ches’s face when she discusses Balo’s parents is one of disdain, but she still seemingly makes an effort to censor her opinion of her mother. Undoubtedly another attempt to keep herself from hurting Balo.
The blonde goes back to working on her sketch, not quite sure what to say. Most of her friends had some sort of parental figure to go to if they needed to. Who did she have? Zander, who she didn’t feel like she should go to with her problems because he’d find some way to twist it into Jack’s fault, and Ivan, who had more than enough stuff on his plate without his little sister being added to it. She knew her friends were only trying to help, of course, but hearing she was better off didn’t ease just how much it hurt every time she tried to call her mother, and she didn’t pick up.
For a few minutes, silence settles in. But, just as Balo is finding the lack of discussion comfortable, Ches shatters it. “I know it’s hard to believe that you’re going to be okay, but things are going to get better. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay in the mean-”
The words cause something to snap in her, and she whips around to look at her friend again. “If I don’t pretend I’m okay, everyone will leave. It’s already been a month. Nobody wants to hear me whine, Ches.” She winces at just how loud her voice is, but the girl she shouted at doesn’t seem surprised by the outburst.
“That’s not true; I want to hear it.”
“You want to hear about how tired I am of hearing everyone saying they know how I feel when they can only sympathize? None of you know what it’s like to have HIV and be terrified all the time that you’ll somehow hurt everyone you love because of it. And every time you try to paint it as a good thing, my parents disowned me, it hurts. I can’t call Ivan because he needs to focus on his studies, and Zander is so stressed lately I don’t want to add more to his plate either.” Balo can’t stop the tears of frustration that fall as she talks to Ches. “Do you really want to hear me sulk?”
“Yes, and I think your brothers would also want you to come to them. Zander’s really worried about you, and from what you’ve told me about Ivan, I’m sure it’s killing him he’s not here. It’d kill me if I wasn’t.” The redhead opens her arms, and the gesture is all it takes for her to get up and steal a hug. “I’m sorry I’ve been making things worse, Balo.”
“It’s fine.” Despite her frustration, she knew she was only trying to help. It wasn’t her fault Balo didn’t want to hear it.
“It’s not fine, but now I’m aware, I can keep it in mind.” Ches squeezes her tightly, reaching up to try to smooth out Balo’s hair as she talks. “As for making us sick too, you have nothing to worry about. You’re being careful, right? Haven’t been sharing needles with anyone? Not supplying your blood to bathe virgins in or anything?”
“That’s not funny.” Balo knew she was trying to lighten the mood, but she didn’t find it amusing. She was seriously concerned. What if she messed up and she didn’t catch it? She still had no idea how she got HIV, even when she ran through the possibilities in her head. It still didn’t make sense. “I feel like I should tell the rest of the Hundred Acre Woods at least, but I can’t shake the feeling everyone will turn their backs on me too.”
“If you decide to tell the rest of our friends - nobody will go anywhere, not even Avery. We care about you, and frankly, it doesn’t fucking matter as long it’s managed and you’re okay. You being healthy and happy is all that matters. You’re not a walking biohazard or whatever the intrusive thoughts are saying. And if you get hurt, and you’re concerned about it - I’ll handle it. Okay? I’m on PReP, I’ll be fine. But none of us are going anywhere; that’d be like turning your back on someone with cancer - nobody in our friend group is that horrible of a person.”
The lack of sugarcoating in Ches’s words threw her off for a moment. There was no dancing around the point. She’d just said what she was thinking, without hesitation or pause. Finally, after a moment, she starts to protest; “you say that but family is supposed to be unconditional love, and my parents-”
“Your parents aren’t the only family you have. You have your brothers and Fettuccine, you have Caitriona and Jack, and you have us. What happened with your parents is gonna sting like a bitch, but they’re not all you have. You still have a family. Plus, when winter break comes up, we’re going to be fighting over who brings you and Zander home. I was about ready to off Jack when you said you thought you’d be staying with him this summer. I thought I’m supposed to be your parabatai.”
This time there’s no urge to tell Ches she’s not funny, perhaps because this time it’s obvious she’s serious about the fact that no matter what, she still had a place to go. If not with Ivan or Cait, she had one with Ches or Jack. None of them were going to leave her alone, although she hoped they wouldn’t fight over her. That’d be excessive. “You are my parabatai; we just have to wait a year to get tattoos.” Balo can even hear the first hints of a smile in her words as the tears start to slow down.
“Or, if your doctor says you’re good to go, we can do it before we leave France. You’re above the age of 16, it’s legal. I could ask my cousins who they’d recommend. Maybe we could drag your brother along to get that second tattoo he keeps salivating over too?” Ches seems serious about the idea, but before Balo can tell her yes, she’s continuing. “We can discuss that later, though.”
But she didn’t need to wait until later to know she’d be checking to make sure there weren’t any concerns about her getting a tattoo. They’d been discussing it for years, a parabatai rune on one of their pinkies. “I’ll ask at my next appointment.” Balo decides without hesitation, “hopefully, the answer is yes.”
“If it’s not, we’ll get them when the time comes. There’s no rush, we have forever, but you’re not throwing me off that easily. I’m really sorry about your mom, sunshine.” Of course, Ches had to bring it back to the problem at hand; there was no brushing it under the rug and skipping off into the sunset with her. Not with stuff like this, at least.
“I just wish she’d tell me herself she doesn’t want anything to do with me. I knew dad was mad about Caitriona, but I didn’t ever think she’d just... why can’t she just answer the phone?” The words are little more than a sob as she brings herself down to her knees and clings to her friend tighter. “Why doesn’t she want me anymore?”
“I’m sorry.” For the first time in years, Ches seems at a loss for words as she runs her fingers through her blonde hair. There are no attempts at a joke, no moment of insight to follow up with, and at the realization, she can’t help but cry harder again.
It’s not surprising when her friend opens her mouth again, You Are My Sunshine comes out instead of words. As she sings, Balo tries to focus on it instead of the thoughts swirling around in her head again. The further into the song she gets, the more she starts to relax.
Finally, when the song is done, she says the first thing on her mind. “Can I sleepover at yours tonight? I don’t want to be alone.”
“Of course. Come on, I’ll make you dinner, and we can watch Disney movies. I’ll even let you make me watch Snow White if you’d like. I just lost my roommate, so there’s nobody to mind.”
At Ches’s words, she pulls away, nodding at the reassurance that she wouldn’t be disturbing anyone. After she stands up, she packs her sketchbook, her toothbrush, and a change of clothes into her bag. For a moment, she hesitates before she grabs the stuffed animals, her droid, and the doll on her dresser - hoping Ches wouldn’t mind her bringing them along. “I heard someone had all their stuff destroyed by the circle once, and I’d feel better if I didn’t leave them alone overnight just in case.”
“They can sleep on my dresser tonight, I don’t mind.” Ches shrugs as she offers Balo her hand. She reaches out to grasp it quickly, following her friend when she leads her out of the room and locking the door on her way out.
Maybe things weren’t okay yet, and it’d probably be a while until they were, but the more she leaned on her friends - the more she realized maybe she didn’t have to have it all together yet. She’d get there eventually, but, until then, they weren’t going anywhere. Maybe her parents didn’t want her, but they did.
And at that moment, that was enough.

*Tokyo, Japan 1974*
Being here in Tokyo, Japan has been such a thrill. Even though the boys weren't overly popular like the Beatles or Elton John just yet back home in England, at least here in Japan they've greeted them like royalty. There were screaming fans everywhere to greet us at the airport holding up pictures, drawings and signs welcoming the guys to their home country.
The boys had a press conference earlier today and now we were in a special garden just behind the Tokyo tower for the tea ceremony. It was such a beautiful day for such a ceremony and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
As I looked at the boys I could tell they were extremely happy to be here. I looked down at my art book and went back to sketching the boys who were all sitting along the blanket holding their Japanese teacups. Making sure to get each detail of each of their features, and the last detail like the wind blowing their hair down just right.
Oh I should introduce myself; my names (y/n) (l/n). I had gotten a job being an assistant to the band's lawyer Jim Beach just before Queen began recording their 3rd album "Sheer Heart attack". Since joining the boys over a year ago when I was just 16 years old, they have become like a second family to me.
And it's exactly what I needed because—well I've been dealing with some hardships in my family as of late for the past few years now, so being with the guys has really helped brighten my day.
As I watched the boys play with their gifts given to them by the Japanese fans and giving them a recorded message, curtesy of the Japanese press that had joined us along with the ladies who help run the tea ceremonies for only the elite politicians of Japan.
God were they ever silly, Roger photobombing behind in almost every message, Deacy being a secret cheeky guy, Freddie interrupting Roger's greeting, and Brian stepping in when he felt like it during Fred's message. I continued my outline of the boys on the blanket with the Tokyo tower in the background, when I felt something touch behind my ear.
"A blossom for our blossom." I softly grinned and turned around to see Freddie and Deacy standing behind me. I lifted my hand to see just what he had done but he told me, "No, no darling don't touch it. Deacy darling, take a picture of us two."
I blushed and tried to bury my face into my hands.
"Oh no, no, no, no, no love not this time. You've been avoiding all pictures ever since we got here. I deserve at least one with you in it for myself." Deacy said as Freddie pulled me close onto his lap and leaned his head against mine.
"You guys are nuts, you know that?"
"But you love us dear." Freddie said as he gave my temple a quick peck.
"Yeah, guess I do."
"Alright you two look this way." Deacy said as he prepped his camera. We turned to face Deacy and I wrapped my arms around Fred's neck and his arms went around my waist as we leaned our heads against each other's. Deacy got in a few pictures and he said. "Beautiful."
"Tell me we can see the blossom in her hair Deacy."
"Yep, got a clear picture of that." I gently removed the twig from my hair to see a multiple line of cheery blossoms. I smiled and that's when Fred grabbed my art book.
"Working on some new sketches darling?"
"Yeah, Japan's definitely given me some beautiful inspiration. But most of it is still a work in process, so no lookies."
"Aww c'mon dear let me have a sneak peek, please? From one designer to another?"
"No not even if you were my professor Freddie."
"Oh you better hand over the sketch book (Y/n) darling, if you know it's good for you." He playfully threatened. I gripped my book tightly to my chest and that's when he said. "Fine, you leave me no choice. Roger!"
"Shit no!" I took off running and before I even knew it, Roger quickly swooped in and swung me around and he said.
"Might as well give up lovie, you know it's useless to get out of my grasp." He emphasized his point by nuzzling my head like a cat and peppering my face with slobbery kisses.
"Eww Rog! Cut it out!!" I tried to escape his grip but as always it was pointless to escape the arms of Roger Taylor. He kept peppering kisses all over my face, even poking me in the sides slightly tickling me till the grip on my notebook was just enough for it to fall.
Deacy caught it and handed it to Fred.
"Thank you my darlings."
"Deacy, Rog, you both are on the official hate list. I no longer like you two." I huffed.
"Aww, that hurts poppet, that really hurts." Deacy mocked using the puppy dog eyes on me that he knew I couldn't resist.
"After all we've been through (n/n) you'd just dump me like that?" Roger faked cried.
"You are such a drama queen Rog." He grinned and playfully ruffled my hair and that's when Freddie said.
"Ohh (y/n) darling. These are—there's not even a word that can describe what I'm looking at. The realism is uncanny down to the last detail. You even got Brian's hair right and not even I can do that."
"I'll admit, even though I'm no artist that these pictures look like a photograph being developed. You're truly talented (y/n)." Deacy praised me as he looked over Fred's shoulder. Brian soon came up and he said.
"I must admit Fred's right. Every hair detail for all of us is down to the straight detail. Do you—think I could get a signed copy of this?"
"Not if I take one first Brian." Roger spoke up.
"I swear darling, you should go to the university I went to; Ealing Art college. They'd be soo lucky to have you."
"Well.....I mean they're okay but I don't think they're worthy of that university." I muttered.
"Don't be so modest darling, I'll even give you a recommendation. As an alumni I can have the rights to help you get in." he decreed.
"Well I'll—I'll think about it Freddie. Right now I just want to get through secondary school and graduate from that." After that conversation, the five of us continued to have a fun time in the Japanese garden.
After the tour in Japan, I arrived back in London and as the guys were piling in the cab Roger said.
"C'mon love let's go."
"Actually I promised my mum that I'd wait here for her. She said she was gonna take me home."
"You sure?" asked Brian.
"Yeah, she might be waiting outside right now. You guys go on ahead I'll see you guys next week."
"Alright, thanks for coming with us love."
"Thank you guys for inviting me. I had a wonderful time."
"You always make our tours and trips more memorable (y/n) dear. Drive safe." He came up and kissed my cheeks and hugged me. I hugged each of my boys and they piled into the cab waving goodbye to me. I blew them a kiss goodbye and they took off in the cab.
About five minutes after they left, my mom's van pulled up. I smiled at her and picked up my luggage and headed towards the car. I placed them in the backseat and I hugged my mum.
"Did you have fun love?"
"Ohh Japan was so beautiful, I wish you and Kay could've been there to see it."
"I'm sure your sister would've loved to have gone with you."
"How—how has she been?"
"Well we—had a bit of a scare just the other week, but she's stable now."
"What? What happened to her?! Why didn't you call me?"
"I tried but each time I did no one was answering. Plus with the time difference and this internship I didn't want you distracted."
"Mum, if something happens to Kaylee, I deserve to know." She cupped the side of my face and said.
"You're right I'm sorry. Do you wish to see her?" I nodded and said.
"I still gotta give her that gift I promised her." My mum shifted the car into drive and drove us out of the airport to London hospital.
Once we arrived at the hospital, my mum checked us in and we headed towards my sister's room on the 5th floor. Now you remember me mentioning about the family turmoil right? Well it all has to do with my bestest friend in the whole wide world, my older sister Kaylee. See about 4 or 5 years ago we noticed how she'd always get high fevers and suddenly seemed to be losing weight.
At first I thought she was going anorexic but when she passed out and my mum and I saw the bruises forming on her arms, we immediately rushed her over here to the hospital where they diagnosed her with acute myeloid leukemia.
It devastated the whole family and it really began to take a toll on my mum and now we're hardly able to afford my sister's medical bills to pay for all the chemo she has to go through. That's why I got the job with Jim in the first place.
Any checks I get from him, go straight to my sister. Not my college fund. In fact I'm not even going to college, cause I want to continue to fund for my sister's health, and finally get her the cure she deserves.
When we got to her room, there she was lying on her bed, beanie on top of her head to cover her bald head. She turned over to me and smiled tiredly.
"Hey (y/n)." I smiled and rushed over to her and hugged her without hurting her. "How was Japan?"
"It was beautiful. Maybe once you're out and better we can take a trip there."
"I hope so."
"Oh hey, I got you what you've been asking for." I went into my bag and pulled out a poster of the Queen 2 poster that had all the guys' signatures on them. I had asked them while we were in Japan if they could sign this for me. Easily able to trick them, I told them to write it for Kay, telling them that it was a nickname of sorts.
"Oh my god." She squealed softly as she took the poster in her hands and looked at it. See she's the reason why I got into Queen. Since she's two years older than me, she first heard about the first Queen album and kept playing it on repeat.
Liking the music I was hearing, she gave me a brief education on Queen and ever since then, we've been fangirls of Queen ever since. They're music has really helped my sister a lot especially since her leukemia has seemed to be getting progressively worse in the past year.
"Thank you (y/n). You are so lucky that you get to work with them."
"Well it's mostly just doing stuff for their lawyer. I don't actually help make the songs."
"Still, you're living every girl's dream right now at the chance of even being close to them. Are they nice?"
"Oh Kay, nice doesn't even begin to describe them. They're so sweet and down to earth. Cheeky at times especially Roger and Freddie, but they are all so supportive and treat me like I'm a part of their little family."
"I'm glad they're treating you right." I then showed her some of the pictures that I had drew while I was there and some of the photos I took. "God (y/n). I envy you for your drawings. And the fact that you were in Japan. You know I always wanted to go there."
"Well—maybe when you get out, we can take a trip there." Unaware of my mum's solemn attitude, my sister smiled and said.
"Yeah. Maybe we can make it just the two of us squirt." She playfully shoved my head, our friendly little gesture of affection since we were kids.
"Hey I'm 2 years younger than you."
"Still a squirt compared to me." She teased.
After about a week of being back home, I went between my final few weeks of home schooling, the studio and the hospital. Right now I was sitting with my sister, the two of us having the boys' "Sheer Heart attack" album playing in the background as my sister and I were chatting away.
"Okay so FMK; Paul McCartney, David Bowie or Elton John." I asked my sister.
"Oh Goddamnit (n/n) why make me choose those three. I love all of them!" she whined.
"Cause I'm evil like that. No c'mon you made me have to kill Brian the last time so this is payback."
"Okay, okay. So.....ugh I hate you. Okay I would marry Elton, fuck Paul and I'm sorry David. God I hate you so much!"
"Haha!"
"Well don't let David hear you say that darling." Oh god it—it can't be. We suddenly looked up and there stood Brian, Freddie, Deacy and Roger.
"Oh my god what are—what are you guys doing here?"
"You left your journal at the studio last night. We called your mum to see if we could give it to you at the house but she told us you were at the hospital." Answered Deacy as he held up my art journal.
"At first we got worried that something bad had happened to you, but then she explained to us what was going on." Continued Roger.
"So you must be the real Kay." Freddie pointed towards my sister.
"Guys I'm—I'm sorry I tricked you, I just....."
"It's alright love. There's no need to explain. It's sweet you got something for your sister after all you've done for her. But we figured maybe a visit from the real band might make her day a bit better." Brian said with a soft smile.
"I—I....." Kaylee started as the boys all came in and sat around us.
"So Kaylee darling, which of our three albums is your favorite?" asked Freddie.
"Uhh well I—it's hard to pick but I guess your recent album Sheer Heart attack is probably my favorite."
"Do you have a favorite song from the album?" asked Brian.
"Oh god uhh—can't I say I love them all? It's so hard to pick a favorite song of yours."
"That's understandable." Replied Deacy.
For the rest of the time, my sister got to ask the guys so many questions about how their musical processes, how they choose which lyrics work the best, how the arrangement works when performing, how they all got together, everything she had been dying to know since she was a music nut.
And bless the boys they answered all her questions no matter how ridiculous or embarrassing they were. Soon a nurse came in to tell me that visiting hours were over.
I hugged my sister goodbye and even the guys gave her a hug and kiss goodbye, which made her heart meter skyrocket, especially when she got a kiss to the cheek from Deacy.
I walked out with the guys and we all piled into the car and I said to them.
"Thanks you guys."
"For what lovie?" asked Roger.
"For—being nice to my sister. You four.....have made her happier than my mum and I have seen her in years since she's had to go back and forth between home and the hospital."
"You're family to us (n/n). And if we could give a little bit more back to you, it's always worth it. We're honored that you let us in on this personal matter of your life. Thank you for letting us have your trust." Said Brian.
"Just—promise me that none of this gets leaked out."
"Don't be ridiculous dear. We wouldn't dare proclaim this secret of yours out to the public. Your sister's secret heath crisis is safe with us." Freddie said as he stroked down my hair. I smiled and thanked them once more.
One year later in 1975 I was with the boys, Mr. Reid, Paul Prenter and my boss Jim Beach. We were currently in Ray Foster's office waiting for Freddie to arrive for the meeting of the next hit album. I leaned my chin against my palm as I drummed against the armrest of the chair I was sitting in.
Finally Freddie walked in greeting us with a hello.
"You're late." Said Mr. Foster.
"Am I?" questioned Freddie.
"Saved you a seat." Paul said as he gestured at the chair I was sitting at. He then glared down at me ordering me to move. I sat up but then just before I could walk away to stand beside my boss, I was pulled onto the couch and saw that it was Roger who had pulled me in to sit on his lap. He winked at me and placed a quick peck on my forehead as Mr. Reid introduced my boss to Ray Foster.
"You must stop calling him that." Freddie said as he lit himself a cigarette.
"That's his name." said Mr. Reid.
"No we cannot keep calling him Jim Beach. No that's absurd not to mention unspeakably boring." He breathed in a quick drag before proclaiming. "Miami. From now on; I dub thee, Miami Beach." My boss chuckled then said a quick little teasing joke of Miami Beach.
Truthfully I liked it, hopefully I can have the honor of calling him that one day but for now I'll just settle on Mr. Beach as I have been referring him as.
"Right now that everyone's got an acceptable name let's get to it. Look; we just really need something special. More hits, like "Killer Queen", only bigger."
"It's not bloody widgets we're making. We can't just reproduce Killer Queen." Said Roger as Freddie sat up and walked towards Ray's record player taking out a record from his bag.
"No. We can do better." Said Freddie as he placed the record on the vinyl and turned it on. He lifted the needle and placed it at a specific point and soon coming out of the speakers was the famed song from Carmen. I grinned and as Freddie gracefully walked around moving his finger around to the tun, Mr. Foster bluntly stated.
"It's opera."
"Opera!" exclaimed Mr. Reid.
"Opera." Echoed Paul.
"Ahh there seems to be an echo in here." Deacy stated which made me choke out a laugh. As the song continued, when it got to the big crescendo part of the song, Freddie went all out waving his arm in tune before on the final note, slamming his hand down on Foster's desk. He almost couldn't contain his excitement as I chuckled softly.
Brian, Rog and Deacy were also in tune to the idea as they with less enthusiasm as Freddie but the same interest followed the next crescendo of the choir. Freddie turned the volume down as Brian said.
"See we don't want to repeat ourselves. The same formula over and over."
"Formulas are a complete and utter waste of time." Freddie stated bluntly.
"Formulas work. Let's stick with the formulas. I like formulas." Mr. Foster said.
"We'll call the album......A Night at the Opera." Hmm after a Marx brother's film. Sounds interesting.
"Are you aware that no one actually likes Opera."
"I like it." I said to myself, but I guess it was loud enough because Mr. Foster looked right at me through his shades and asked skeptically.
"Do you?"
"I do as well." I heard my boss say. I looked at him and he gave me a slight nod. God he was such a cool boss.
"No don't misunderstand darling, it's a rock and roll record. With the scale of opera. The pathos of Greek tragedy, the wit of Shakespeare, the—unbridled joy of musical theatre. It's a musical experience. Rather than just another record, something for everyone something—something that will make people feel belongs to them. We'll mix genres, we'll cross boundaries, we'll—we'll—we'll speak in bloody tongues if we want to."
"There-there's no musical ghetto that can contain us." Proclaimed Roger.
"That's it." Freddie pointed towards Roger.
"No one knows what Queen means because it doesn't mean one thing." Deacy pointed out.
All was quiet, man I have a feeling that this album was gonna be the one that would put Queen on the map of the entire world, that after this they were gonna change the name of music forever.
"What do you think John?" Foster asked Mr. Reid.
"I—agree with the band."
"Of course you do." He then turned towards me and asked, "How about you uhh—" I was shocked that he wanted my opinion. I looked to the guys and they gave me an encouraging nod.
"(Y/n). Well—fortune favors the bold, does it not?" I felt Roger pat my shoulder. Freddie then leaned against Foster's desk as he said.
"Surely a man of your—unique taste. Isn't afraid of a little risk?" Foster debated before finally saying.
"Please don't make me regret this."
"You're fun." Freddie pointed out with a grin.
After the meeting, Jim called me into his office and I said as I peeked into it.
"You wished to see me sir?"
"Yes c'mon in (y/n). Have a seat." I took a seat in front of his desk. "Alright (y/n), now it's come to my attention that since you and the boys have gotten so close with each other since you started working here, I feel it's best that since I can't go with them to Rockfield due to my legal matters here as their lawyer, that I'm electing you to go with them to keep an eye on them."
I was flabbergasted. Me? Go with them to Rockfield studios?
"M—Mr. Beach....."
"Miami." Wow he did he really just ask me to call him that. "Freddie's insisted that you refer to me as that from now on." Ahh that Freddie Mercury.
"Miami. I mean it's an honor but I—I don't think I can go away for that long. I mean....."
"Please (y/n). You know as well as I do that Paul has no good intentions when it comes to Queen." That I do. Ever since working with the boys, I've had a sickening feeling about Paul Prenter. There was just something about him that felt—slimy, ill, almost like a virus.
"Yeah."
"There's no other person I would trust more to go with the boys to the farm. Plus they all believe that you should go with them anyway so it's out of my hands either way."
"I'll think about it."
"Just make sure you tell them in two days' time when they leave for the recording." I nodded and stood up. "Oh wait, one more thing. Your paycheck." He then took out his checkbook and wrote down my pay for the 2 weeks. I thanked him but when I looked down, my eyes widened.
"Wait uhh—Miami. This....this is double the normal amount you pay me."
"I know."
"I agreed to be paid 500 pounds."
"It's come to my attention there's some financial struggle you're going through. The boys wouldn't explain it in full detail but they made me aware that you were in dire need of it. Plus I know they can be a lot to handle, so you deserve 1000 anyway." I looked down but couldn't help the small smile across my face.
"Thank you—Miami." He smiled and nodded at me and I left his office with my raised paycheck. As I walked across the hall, I saw the boys go from the snooping position to trying to act nonchalantly, like they weren't spying on me. "I know you four had something to do with this." I said raising my check.
"We have no idea what you're talking about (n/n)." said Brian as he looked over his six-pence coin that served as his guitar pick.
"So you're coming with us right?" asked Freddie.
"I—I'll get back to you on that. I—I need to talk to Kay about it."
"I'm sure she'll let you come with us. C'mon love just say you'll be coming with us." Roger said as he came up and wrapped his arms around me.
"Besides you'll be much better company than Prenter. I'll go mad if I have to see him every day while we're there." Said Deacy.
"Exactly Deacy!" agreed Roger.
So that night after work, I was in Kaylee's room and I told her about what I was going to do for the summer and she was psyched for me.
"I say you go!" she proclaimed.
"But what about you?" I asked. She reached over and took my hand and she said.
"You've been doing too much for me. You've always put me over yourself. And this is your last chance to be a free kid before you start thinking about college. So please for my sake go with them. If not I'll never let you live it down. Ever."
"Okay, okay. I'll give Fred a call tomorrow and tell him."
"Call him tonight."
"Fine. And you're sure you'll be fine."
"Yes. I've got mum to look after me. And I expect new drawings, pictures and lots of stories from you when you get back."
"I promise Kay, thanks girl." She smiled as I leaned forward and we hugged each other.
In two days, the guys picked me up right at 4am on the dot so that way we'd get there by sunrise to the farm. Deacy put my bags in the trunk while I hugged and kissed my mum and sis goodbye.
"Now be sure to be good for these boys (y/n)."
"I will mum. Promise me to keep me updated on everything?"
"You know me, I'll be calling you every night." I smiled and separated from my mum before finally standing before my sister.
"Don't do anything insane till I get back." I told her. She smiled and scoffed playfully.
"How can I? You're taking all the insanity with you." I grinned back at her and the two of us embraced each other. "Have fun tigress."
"Be strong lioness."
"Oh come on let's get a move on! Anymore wasted time here and we'll be late!" I heard Paul cry out.
"Piss off Prenter! Let her say goodbye to her family." Brian sneered.
"Go on, don't want you to get into trouble." Kay said as we separated. I waved bye to them one last time and I got into the car with Rog and Deacy and soon we drove off.
"Since it'll be a long drive and it's still pretty early, why don't you try and go back to sleep (y/n)?" suggested Deacy. I nodded and leaned my head back against the car, but Deacy offered his shoulder for me to sleep on. I took his offer and in his playful jealous tone, Roger spoke up.
"What about me?"
"You fidget around too much on long car rides." I moaned tiredly.
"Why you little—"
"Face it Rog, she loves me more than you do when it comes to sleeping buddies. Isn't that right love?"
"Yeah." I heard Rog huff but then he said.
"Well at least I provide the best blankets." He emphasized that point by draping his fur coat over my shoulders as a blanket.
"Won't deny that though. You both take such good care of me."
"Only the best for you love." I nuzzled into Deacy's shoulder and exhaled tiredly through my nose and began to fall back asleep.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soft eyes and an enigmatic smile. More shadow than light, looking as if she might fade away at any moment, hard at work as she sketched how she saw the world. Riku knew his priority was supposed to be saving Aqua, but ever since he’d run into the other Riku in the Realm of Darkness, his thoughts kept wandering to Naminé.
He rolled over and sighed. Radiant Garden was looking better and better the more of it was rebuilt, but even though he and Mickey were staying at a cozy inn with comfortable beds, tonight was proving to be another sleepless night.
“You’re thinking about her again, aren’t you?”
Hovering beside him was the other Riku. They’d started having more and more chats like this, and Riku couldn’t say he really minded. It was nice getting perspective from someone who understood him so well and yet wasn’t him.
“I guess I am,” he said. “What Ienzo told us about the Replica project’s been on my mind.”
If there was a way to bring Naminé back, he wanted to. The time they’d spent together hadn’t exactly been surrounded by happy memories, and yet thinking about her brought a smile to his face.
“I understand,” the other Riku said. “My feelings for her might be fake—”
Riku raised an eyebrow. “They seem real enough to me.”
“I guess you’re right. But yours are real, too. And that means you can help her.”
“I’ll try,” Riku said at last, “but I can’t make any promises. Saving Aqua comes first.”
He had a duty to fulfill. He and Mickey had to get Aqua out of the Realm of Darkness as soon as possible.
“But then?”
“I’ll do whatever I can to save her. I promise.”
The other Riku looked content to hear this. He looked up at the ceiling and sighed. “And that’s all I can ask from you. For you and me both.”
Riku thought about the other Riku’s words as he tossed and turned. Would it be possible to bring Naminé back? If so… then yes, he did want to bring her back.
His thoughts wandered back to those months they’d spent together working to save Sora. If only he’d known what he had before he lost it. But that was how life worked, wasn’t it? Didn’t know what you had till it was gone. He’d been so fixated on helping Sora, and so had she, that neither of them realized what could’ve been till it couldn’t be anymore.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naminé’s days were spent in slumber, and it was only at night, while Kairi dreamed, that they could speak. As far as Naminé knew, Kairi didn’t remember their little chats – not much of them, anyway – but they were nice all the same.
The two of them met in a vision of the white room back at the Old Mansion, Naminé’s drawings hung all over the walls as they sat at opposite ends of the table. She listened intently as Kairi talked about all the things she’d been learning lately, the magic spells and defense moves and special attacks. Imagined she was doing those things beside Kairi instead of watching from within a dream.
Kairi paused, her brow furrowed. “What’s wrong? I get the feeling something’s troubling you.”
“Oh… it’s just that…”
She hesitated. Should she really tell Kairi what was on her heart? Would that make anything better, or would it just make Kairi sad?
“You can tell me,” Kairi said gently. “I’m your friend.”
Naminé spent a few more agonizing seconds deciding what to do, then finally spoke again. “Hearing you talk, I wish I could experience all those things with you. It’s selfish, I know, but—”
Kairi shook her head. “It’s not selfish at all. It’s human. Of course you want to experience these things for yourself. When I lost my body and was inside Sora’s heart, I enjoyed seeing all the things he did. But it wasn’t the same as getting to see them for myself.”
“I understand.”
Kairi smiled sadly. “Anything else on your mind?”
“Well… there is someone I want to see again…”
“You will. I promise.”
How Kairi knew who it was, Naminé wasn’t sure. But the knowing twinkle in her eyes lifted her spirits a little. She might be unable to live her own life, but at least she still had Kairi.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Well, enough about what I’ve been up to. Anything on your mind?” Sora asked as Riku chatted with him via Gummiphone. His friend was chilling in the Gummi Ship while Donald and Goofy were shopping for supplies and Mickey was grabbing breakfast.
“Well, actually… yeah,” Riku replied.
Sora’s eyebrows furrowed. “What is it? You worried about rescuing Aqua? I know you’ll be able to pull it off. You rescued me, after all.”
“Right. I just… there’s something else I…” Riku sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He was going to regret saying this, he just knew he would. All those years spent teasing Sora were about to come back and bite him in the ass.
“You miss somebody, don’t you?” Sora said sagely.
“How’d you know?”
“Gimme some credit here. I am your best friend. I have a pretty good read on how you’re feeling.”
“And who do you think it is I’m missing, oh wise one?” Riku teased. If Sora was gonna give him a hard time, he’d dish it right back.
“Hmmm, let’s see. Can’t be Kairi, ‘cause you just saw her. Can’t be me, ‘cause we’re talking right now. Selphie drives you up the wall, and Tidus and Wakka haven’t really talked to either of us much lately. So we’re all out.”
“What, are you a super sleuth now?”
“It must be someone you can’t talk to right now. Boy do I know how that feels,” Sora said with a sigh. “I’m gonna guess… Naminé?”
Riku didn’t say anything, and a smirk spread across Sora’s face. “I knew it! You do miss her, don’t you?”
“I didn’t realize I would until she was gone.”
“Riku, you’ve always been kinda dense when it comes to your own heart,” Sora said with a shake of his head, but the words were affectionate. “This doesn’t surprise me at all. I can see why you like her.”
Riku bristled. “I’m dense when it comes to my own heart? Sheesh, talk about the pot calling the kettle black.”
“Maybe, but I’ve gotten pretty good at picking up on what other people are feeling. You wanna see her again, don’t you?”
“I guess. But I don’t see how that’s possible.”
There were a lot of big ifs to her getting a body of her own. And even if they did save her, would she even want to talk to him?
“C’mon, Riku, have some faith! I swore to Roxas I’d get him back somehow. I’m sure Kairi feels the same way about Naminé. And you said it yourself. Ienzo and the others wanna find a way to give them bodies. With all these people working together, I’m sure we’ll find a way to save them.”
“You’re right. I should have some faith. Comes with following my heart, doesn’t it?”
Sora grinned. “Yup! That’s the spirit.”
As they wrapped up their conversation and Sora said goodbye, Riku couldn’t help but sigh. He sure wanted to hope, but hope was dangerous. Hope easily led to disappointment.
But what was the alternative? Living without any hope? That was even worse. So maybe he’d give this whole faith thing a try. He would see Naminé again, and when he did, maybe he’d finally tell her how he felt.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ever since her birth, NaminÊ had teetered on the edge of existence. Was this new form really so different? This star full of empty hopes and wishes and regrets, barely hanging onto life in the Final World with nothing but blue sky and white clouds surrounding her for miles on end?
What was it that kept her here? Why hadn’t she passed on to whatever lay beyond this realm? Was it because Kairi still stubbornly clung to life and kept her here? Or was it her own regrets?
She did have a lot of regrets. But after lingering inside Kairi’s heart for a while, she’d finally identified her biggest regret of all. And now, all alone in this lonely place with nothing but her regrets left, it ate away at her.
No one really missed her. Roxas was the one they missed. They’d all be fine without her. And the person she missed the most, the person she wanted to see the most, didn’t seem to care at all.
Then Sora came along, tethered to the Realm of Light and retaining his form while NaminĂŠ did not. Of course. Someone cared enough about him to do that. Just another reminder that NaminĂŠ was alone.
But as he talked to her, he reassured her that everyone did miss her. He missed her, Kairi missed her, Donald and Goofy missed her, Roxas missed her… and most puzzling of all, someone else special wouldn’t let her down.
His words stuck with her after he’d left, remained in her heart after he found their friends again and returned to the Realm of Light and Naminé to Kairi’s heart.
Could he possibly mean…
But hoping was dangerous. And yet, she couldn’t help but hope. Hoping was a part of having a heart, after all.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Riku watched, dumbfounded, as the other Riku gave up his chance at life for Naminé’s sake. Gave up his chance to be with her for Riku’s sake. With a few final words, he faded into a swirl of light and darkness, leaving nothing behind but the Replica body for Naminé as the wind whistled through this dry, empty place.
If that wasn’t love, Riku didn’t know what was. He would honor the other Riku’s sacrifice and bring back Naminé, whatever it might take. He wanted to see her again. He wanted to tell her what the other Riku had sacrificed for her. And… he wanted to tell her how he felt. She deserved to hear it, after he’d been so clueless about his own heart.
But first, they had a war to win.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cruel irony of Kairi’s existence was that she could keep other people from dying and yet couldn’t save herself. Naminé screamed as she felt Xehanort’s blade strike Kairi’s back, wrenching her out of her safe home and sending her hurtling towards death. Kairi’s heart was likewise torn from her body right before it turned to crystal and exploded.
The two girls were flying through the Final World towards whatever lay beyond, and Naminé latched onto Kairi’s hand. At least if they were going to die, they’d do it together.
“Naminé,” Kairi said, her face twisted in sorrow, “I’m so sorry, I couldn’t keep you safe—”
“It’s not your fault,” Naminé replied, trying to reassure her.
“It’s too late for me, but not for you. I know the others can take it from here. I’m sorry I won’t be able to welcome you home myself. I really did want to be there for you. But at least this way I’ll be able to keep my promise to you.”
“No, Kairi, what are you saying—”
With the last of her strength, with the last of her light, Kairi anchored Naminé to the Final World. Her see-through hand was starting to slip out of Naminé’s grasp, but Naminé wasn’t about to let go so easily.
“Kairi no, please, you have to save yourself—”
“No! You deserve to live! You deserve to be your own person. Just because my time is over doesn’t mean yours has to be!” She smiled sadly as Naminé’s hand slipped out of her grasp. “Promise me you’ll live. Be there for Sora and Riku because I can’t anymore.”
“I promise,” Naminé choked out, her lower lip quivering. Kairi’s smile got bigger, and then she was wrenched away.
Naminé couldn’t really cry without a body, even though she wished she could. She couldn’t do much to help Kairi right now, either. All their friends were back where they belonged. All except her and Kairi. It would be easy to give into despair and just fade away.
But she’d made a promise to Kairi, and she intended to keep it. And when Sora found her again, she knew exactly what to do.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The battle was over. The long night had ended. It was morning, and Riku hovered somewhere between relief, exhaustion, and grief. Sora and Kairi were both gone, and while Riku had faith Sora would find her again and bring her home, he still missed them both. The memory of Kairi’s body floating helplessly as Xehanort struck her and Sora’s scream of agony that followed soon afterwards would haunt him for a long, long time. He’d failed them both when he’d wanted nothing more than to protect them both. And nothing except for seeing their smiles again, hearing their laughter again, would mend the wound of their loss.
But he couldn’t rest yet. Couldn’t grieve yet. He had one last task to complete. Mickey had come with him for it, and they trudged wordlessly through the maze that had been a battlefield before.
There. Up ahead. An empty body wrapped in a black coat. He gently lifted it into his arms and cradled it as Mickey brushed dust off the coat. This was going to be Naminé’s new body, after all, and it deserved the utmost care.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naminé’s eyes blinked open. Standing before her were Zexion, DiZ, and Vexen. Smiles spread across their faces as she sat up and tested her new limbs. This wasn’t exactly the welcome committee she’d been expecting, but she was grateful they were trying to make up for their past treatment of her all the same.
“It worked!” Vexen exclaimed, his green eyes shining.
“Welcome back to the Realm of Light, Naminé,” Zexion said as she slipped off the gurney and stood.
“Come, there is something you must see,” DiZ told her in his deep booming voice. She followed along, exiting the bowels of the castle on her own two feet. She could walk. She could really walk on her own again.
Xaldin and Lexaeus were at the entrance of the castle to greet her, and she shielded her eyes from the bright light of the sun. How good its warm rays felt shining down on her again, and how lovely the breeze felt blowing through her hair.
And it was blowing because the Gummi Ship was landing. Flower petals flew through the air as it made its careful descent to the ground. And after it had landed, her face lit up as the person she had wanted to see more than anything came out to greet her, like a knight coming to sweep her off her feet.
He offered his hand, and she smiled and took it. She’d imagined their reunion over and over again, but nothing compared to the actual thing. His hand was warm and his grip was strong, and his voice was the most wonderful sound in the world. And best of all, his eyes weren’t hidden or the wrong color; no, they were their beautiful natural green.
“Welcome home, Naminé.”
“It’s good to be back, Riku.”
“Come on in. They’re all waiting to see you.”
As she entered the Gummi Ship and saw the smiling faces of their friends as they all greeted her, giving her hugs and exchanging tearful happy words, it really sank in. She wasn’t alone. She hadn’t been for a very long time. And now Riku was here with her. He’d come for her, just like Sora had said he would.
“Ready to head to Sora and Kairi’s welcome home party?” Riku asked as she took one of the seats next to him.
“Yes,” Naminé said as she smoothed her skirt. “Thank you for coming to get me. Your timing was perfect.”
Riku shot her a grin, and she smiled back.
“Anytime. Thanks for waiting for me, Naminé.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: I figured Sora knew about Riku’s feelings for Naminé somehow, otherwise he wouldn’t have promised Naminé someone special wouldn’t let her down, so I went into writing this part with that in mind. The rest was what I imagined could’ve happened behind the scenes during KH3.
I hope you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!

Chapter 6
“Well, everybody . . .” Don adjusted himself in his seat, “this is it—the last scene.  What do you say we finish this up and then take a break?”
Dick threw his hands up and stretched over the back of his chair.  “I say hallelujah!”
“I concur with Dick,” I replied.  After almost two solid hours of going through the script—reading, revising, and even returning to earlier scenes to make changes—the four of us were eager for a respite.
“All right, then.”  Don glanced at me over the top of his glasses.  “Carrie, why don’t you read for Mary Poppins; Bob, you read for Michael; and I’ll read for Jane.  Dick, you can start us off with the scene heading.”
“You got it.”  Dick looked down at his copy of the script.  “‘Scene 12—Nursery and Living Room.   In the living room, a worried Mrs. Banks, Ellen, and Cook are talking amongst themselves while the Constable talks on the phone.  In the nursery, Michael and Jane are watching Mary Poppins pack her carpetbag.’”
“‘She doesn’t care what will happen to us!’” Bob read Michael’s line.
Don cleared his throat, raised his eyebrows, and adopted a girlish falsetto.  “‘She only said she would stay until the wind changed.  Isn’t that right, Mary Poppins?’”  Unlike Dick and Bob, who used their normal voices regardless of whose lines they were reading, Don fully assumed the persona of every character he read for; and I couldn’t help chuckling to myself at his impersonation of Jane.  However, I managed to suppress my amusement long enough to read Mary Poppins’s part.
“‘Will you bring me my hat, Jane?’”
“‘Mary Poppins, don’t you love us?’”  Don pulled his face into such an exaggeratedly pathetic pout that I burst out laughing.
“‘And what would happen to me, may I ask, if I loved all the children I said goodbye to?’” I gasped amidst a fit of giggles.
“There, Don—look what you did.”  Bob gestured to me and shook his head with mock exasperation. “You broke her.”
By that time, I had almost succeeded in bringing my laughter under control, but Bob’s dry remark set it off all over again.  Then, suddenly, that all-too-familiar tightness took hold in my lungs; and I crumpled forward, pressing one hand to my mouth and the other to my chest as a series of coughs racked my body.  Don and Bob ceased their banter and looked at me with concern.  “You all right, Carrie?” Don asked.
I nodded.  Liar, taunted a voice in the back of my head, but I ignored it.  Then, mustering all my strength, I drew a long, deep breath and held it, straining against the urge to cough again.  After five seconds, I blew it out slowly, then reached for my glass of water and took a drink.  When I finished, I looked up to see the three men staring at me.
“Sorry,” I sighed.  “I guess I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.”
“Are you okay now?” Don asked.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” I assured him.
Dick pointed to the script.  “Should I read the next part, then?”
I nodded.  “Go ahead.”
“All right, where were we?”  He scanned over the page.  “Oh, here we are.  ‘Mary Poppins continues to silently pack her bag.’”
Don took the next part.  “The Constable, talking on the phone, says, ‘Yes sir . . . George W. Banks.  17 Cherry Tree Lane.  About six foot one.  Yes, we rang the bank.  No sign of him!’”
I read Ellen’s line.  “‘Wouldn’t hurt to let them drag the river!’”
“‘Really, Ellen!’” Bob read for Mrs. Banks.
“‘He seemed to be such a fine, stable gentleman, sir!’” Don read for the Constable again.  “He’s still speaking into the phone at that point,” he clarified.
“That’s the last line on the page,” I observed.  “But that’s not the end, is it?”
“No, it’s not,” Don confirmed.  “The ending is a . . . work in progress.”
“Do you have a concept in mind?”
He sighed.  “Not exactly.  We’ve been tossing ideas around for over a week now, but we haven’t come up with anything satisfactory.”
I nodded thoughtfully.  “I see.  Well, maybe I can help.”
“That’s what we were hoping,” he confessed with a grin. Then, taking a deep breath, he flipped his copy of the script shut and folded his arms on the table.  “All right; now that we’ve made it through that, let’s take a break and meet back here in ten minutes.”
“Finally,” Dick sighed with relief as the four of us rose from our chairs.
Bob grabbed his cane and headed for the door.  “I’m gonna go ask Dolly to bring in some sandwiches and fruit.”
“Good idea,” Don agreed.
After Bob left the room, I meandered over to one of the pinup boards and scanned my eyes across the various sketches that were tacked to it.  “What are all these drawings for?” I inquired at last.
“That’s some of the concept art for the movie,” Don explained, coming to stand beside me.  “We find it’s helpful to have a visual—plus, it’s fun.  This one here is Michael in his chalk world outfit.”  He pointed to the one I was looking at, which depicted a young boy clad in white shorts, a blue-and-white pinstriped jacket, and a yellow straw hat with a blue ribbon.
I smiled.  “They’re charming.  Who draws them?”
“Most of them are drawn by our concept artists—people from the animation department,” he replied.
“Don’s too modest,” Dick interjected from across the room.  “At least half the drawings in here are his work.”
I turned to Don.  “Is that true?”
A self-conscious smile tugged at his mouth.  “Well, since he mentions it, yes, I did draw some of them.”  Returning his gaze to the board, he reached out and straightened a few of the sketches that were hanging crookedly.  “I started out here at Disney Studios working in animation, and most of us animators tend to think in terms of storyboards.  So when I’m working on a screenplay like this one, I’ll often make sketches to help us visualize the story.”
“He can make entire scenes come to life on paper,” Dick affirmed.
“That’s quite impressive,” I remarked.
“Well, Dick is rather liberal in his praise, but thank you,” Don replied with a smile.  “I was originally thinking we’d go over the concept art with you tomorrow,” he continued, “but since it’s only 3:30, we might be able to do it before you leave today.”
I nodded eagerly.  “Yes, that’d be good.”
Just then the door opened, and Bob entered the room with Dolly close behind, pushing a cart with a plate of sandwiches and a fruit tray. “Here you go, gentlemen,” she announced. “Oh, and Carrie, your ride’s waiting outside.”
“What?” I asked, bewildered.  “I thought he wasn’t supposed to pick me up till five.”
“Well, Walt figured you might be a little tired after your first day here, so he had me call your driver and ask him to come early,” she explained.
“Oh, he did, did he?” I muttered.  Aloud I replied, “Thank you, Dolly, for letting me know. I’ll be right down.”  Dolly nodded, smiling, and began laying out the food.
With a small sigh of annoyance, I returned to the table to collect my jacket and purse.  “Well,” I said to the three men, “it appears I have to go now.  Thank you for a wonderful first day; I really enjoyed it.”
“Good, we’re glad to hear that,” Bob replied.  Dick, who had just taken a large bite of sandwich, expressed his agreement with a thumbs-up.
I nodded.  “Well, then, I’ll see you all tomorrow.  Have a good evening.”
“You too!” chorused Bob, Dick, and Dolly.
“I’ll walk you out,” Don said, opening the door for me.
As we strode through the hallway, I heaved another sigh. “I’m sorry we couldn’t go over the concept art.”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” Don reassured me. “We’ll just do it tomorrow.”
“But we had enough time; we could have done it today.” I shook my head in frustration.  “Walt didn’t even ask whether I wanted to leave early.  If he had, I would have said no.”
He shrugged.  “Well, that’s Walt for you.  I’m sure he didn’t mean any harm by it.”
I pursed my lips.  “Hmm.”
After several moments of silence, Don changed the subject. “I noticed you spoke up a lot more during the second half of the reading.”
“Just following some good advice,” I replied with a smile, glancing up at him as I did so.
He caught my eye and grinned.  “I’m glad you did.”
We made it to the front door; and as we emerged from the air-conditioned building into the sun-baked heat of the afternoon, Don asked, “Well . . . anything else before you leave?  Any other comments?”
I opened my mouth to say no, but then I remembered something that had been tugging at the back of my mind for most of the afternoon.  “Actually, yes, there is,” I confessed.  “Mr. Banks—his character in the script seems so . . .”  I trailed off, unsure of what exactly I was trying to convey.
“What?” Don prompted.
“I don’t know, just . . . something about him . . .” After another few seconds, I shook my head.  “Never mind. I’m not quite sure what it is.”
“Well, let us know if you figure it out,” he said. By that time, we had arrived at the spot along the sidewalk where Ralph had parked the car and was standing patiently beside it with his hands clasped.
“Ready to go, Miss Schultz?” he asked.
“Well, Mr. Disney seems to think I am,” I replied wryly. Ralph’s face registered confusion, but he smiled anyway.  Meanwhile, I turned once more to the man still standing beside me.  “Thank you for everything, Don.  I have to admit, I was a little nervous at first; but you and the Shermans made me feel comfortable here.  I really appreciate that.”
A warm grin spread across his face.  “The pleasure is all ours, Carrie.  It’s wonderful to have you here.”
I flushed with delight.  “Well . . . I guess I’d better go now.”
He nodded.  “See you tomorrow.”
“Looking forward to it.”  With a final parting smile, I climbed into the car.
Ralph shut the door behind me, then hurried around the other side and climbed into the driver’s seat.  As the car pulled away from the sidewalk, I looked out the window to see Don waving goodbye.  I lifted my hand and waved back.
“Nice guy,” Ralph remarked after I turned around.
“Yes, he is,” I murmured, smiling to myself.
~~~~~
Back in my hotel room, I set my purse on the nightstand, kicked off my pumps, and collapsed onto the bed with a sigh.  After staring at the ceiling for several seconds, I turned my head to look at Mickey Mouse where he sat on the floor by the dresser. “Well, we made it through the first day,” I remarked to him.  “And it wasn’t so bad after all.”
He smiled as if he’d known all along.
With a soft chuckle, I let my eyelids fall shut.  Just a quick rest . . .
~~~~~
When I opened my eyes, the room was dark.  Disoriented, I sat up and looked at the clock on the nightstand.  7:36.  I covered my face with my hands and groaned. How had I let myself fall asleep—for three and a half hours, no less?  At last, with a sigh of resignation, I stood up, stretched, and staggered over to the closet to find a more comfortable dress.
Once I had changed, I sat down on the bed again and ordered up a belated dinner tray.  Then I propped the pillows against the headboard, retrieved the contract and a pencil from my purse, and settled down to comb through the pages of legalese.
When at last I reached the dotted line, I gave a nod of satisfaction.  The terms of the contract were exactly as my agent had described, including the two most important stipulations—live-action, script approval—all right there in black and white.  Just as I was searching through my purse for a pen with which to sign, the phone rang. I glanced at the clock—8:30.  Forgetting the contract, I set my purse aside and leaned over to pick up the phone.  “Hello?”
“Hey, Carrie, it’s Sam.”
“I figured as much,” I replied with a smile.  “But I didn’t expect you to call this late! It’s, what, 10:30 your time?”
“Oh, yeah.”  She giggled sheepishly.  “James took me out to dinner tonight.  We got to talking and lost track of the time.”
“So I take it you enjoyed yourselves?”
“We did.”  She gave a sigh of delight.  “But enough about me.  How was your first day at the studio?”
“It was great,” I affirmed.  “Everyone was very nice, especially the three men I’m working with.  We spent most of our time today going over the script.”
“And you like it so far?”
“I think so.  There are a few things I might like to change, but I think they’ve got a good start.”
“Good.”  She paused, then spoke again.  “So . . . three men, huh?  Are they cute?”
“They're married!” I exclaimed indignantly.  “Well, two of them are.”
“And the third one?”
“Don’t even go there, Sam.  I can’t be thinking about stuff like that; I need to focus on making this movie.  Not to mention there’s this thing called professional conduct.”
“Aw, too bad,” she lamented.  I rolled my eyes.  “Well, tell me more about these men,” she prompted.  “What exactly do they do?”
“Well, Dick and Bob Sherman are the songwriters,” I explained.  “They showed me some of what they’ve come up with so far—and, Sam, it’s amazing!  I can't wait to hear the rest.  And then there’s Don DaGradi, the scriptwriter—he’s pretty much the one in charge of this whole project.  I think you’d like him.  He was very welcoming, and he seems open to my suggestions, which is a pleasant surprise.”
“Ah,” she said knowingly.  “I’ll bet he’s the one who’s still single, isn’t he?”
“Sam, for heaven’s sake—”
“I knew it!” she exclaimed.  “So, is he attractive?”
I shook my head.  “You are incorrigible, Samantha.”
I could practically hear her triumphant grin.  “And proud of it!”
“Anyway,” I pointedly changed the subject, “things went very well today.  I think this whole thing is going to work out even better than I expected.”
“Well, I’m glad you had a good time,” she said.  Then, after a pause, “So, did you get to meet . . . him?”
“Walt, you mean?”
“Yeah.”
“Yes, I did.”
“What’s he like?” she asked.
I furrowed my brow thoughtfully.  “You know, I’m not quite sure.  I mean, when I first met him, he came across a lot like he does on television—all warm and fatherly, like the sort of guy everyone would want as a friend.  But now . . . I don’t know, I’m starting to get the sense that there’s another side to him.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, it’s just . . . never mind.  It’s too complicated to explain.  Whatever it is, I doubt it’ll cause any problems.  Oh, and speaking of which, I just finished looking over the contract.  Everything seems to check out, so I’m going to sign it and hand it in tomorrow.”
There was a moment’s pause before she replied.  “You sure you want to do that now?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” I asked, surprised.
“I don’t know . . . maybe no reason,” she answered hesitantly.  “It’s just that I know how much Mary Poppins means to you, and I’d hate to have you run into any unpleasant surprises. And maybe you won’t; maybe it’ll all go smoothly, like you said . . . but if I were you, I’d hold off on signing the contract a little while longer, just in case you need that extra leverage.”
“I see your point,” I conceded, “but I honestly don’t think it’s necessary.  The terms I specified are right there, and legally, that’s all that matters.”
“I know,” she said.  “But please, will you at least hold onto it for one more day?  And then if you still feel fine about it, I won’t try to talk you out of signing.”
Though I didn’t understand why she was so concerned about it, I also didn’t see any point in causing her needless anxiety.  “All right,” I agreed.  “If it means that much to you, I guess there can’t be any harm in waiting.”
“Good.”  She sounded relieved.  “I know you think I’m silly for worrying about these things.  I just don’t want to see you get hurt.”
“Thanks, Sam.  I really do appreciate it.”  I drew a deep breath.  “You know, I wish you were here right now.  It feels strange being out here all alone.”
“But you’re not alone, Carrie, not really,” she assured me.  “I’m right here, whenever you need me.”
I smiled.  “Thank you.”
“Anytime.”  After a few moments, she spoke again.  “So, you’re still doing okay, right?  You sound really tired.”
“Sam . . .”
“I know, I know.  I’m sorry.  I just . . . I had to ask.”
“I’m fine,” I assured her.  “Really.  It’s been a long day, that’s all.”
“Okay.”  She heaved a sigh.  “Well, in that case, you should get some sleep."
“You're right,” I agreed.  “I love you, Sam.”
“Love you, too, sis.  Talk to you tomorrow!”  With that, the line clicked shut; and I hung up the phone, put the unsigned contract back in my purse, and got up to prepare for bed.
~~~~~
Half an hour later, I climbed into bed, turned off the lamp, and lay there staring at the wall as my mind replayed the most significant parts of the day—including what my sister had asked me about Don.  “So, is he attractive?”  Earlier, I had managed to dodge the question; but lying in the still darkness, alone with my thoughts, I had to admit that indeed he was.
But so what? I asked myself.  Heaven knows, I have much more important things to worry about.  Sam had only been teasing, after all; there was no reason to take any of it seriously.  And the strange little flutter I felt every time Don smiled at me?  That was nothing, absolutely nothing.  Thus reassured, I turned over and closed my eyes . . . but the last image that hovered in my mind before being overtaken by sleep was that wide, playful grin with the twinkling brown eyes and the deep dimples in the cheeks.
Cole.
Getting back to this.
Might as well drop some info about what the ninja are even doing in this AU while I’m at it, ey? I have a sketch of what Cole looks like too but I’m probably gonna wait till I do a better one of Jay and Kai before posting them all
Cole inhaled the outside air before letting out a sigh. The air at the top of Borg Tower was cooler, but the overhead sun was beating down on his head and shoulders. He pulled his long hair off his neck, debating again that he should probably get it cut, but he couldn’t seem to get himself to.
God, was it only noon? It felt like an entire day after taking out an entire block worth of ruined buildings. None of the structures could be reused, so Cole did what he did best.
Tear things apart.
He sighed again.
“Yeesh, did you really climb all the way up here?”
Cole turned to see Kai standing behind him. Even now he had trouble processing that was his friend standing in front of him. Twenty years older, a few more scars on his face, and god what was with that pony tail? And he would always judge Cole’s hair.
“It helps me burn energy.” Cole crossed his arms.
“Yeah cause you weren’t doing enough of that earlier.” Kai snorted. “Tell me the real reason.”
“I just wanted some space to myself. No one even comes near this building, much less climbs it.” He stared at his friend for a moment. It didn’t seem like he’d broken a sweat. “How did you get up here?”
“The elevator still works, did you know?” He had that smug grin on his face as he walked over. “Though getting through the first floor was still sucky.”
Cole snorted. “You’re telling me. I don’t know why Toby never let us just tear all this down.”
“He has a bit of a point.” Kai kept his gaze on the city below. “Better to remember those who suffered then try to erase it.”
“But we could have just set up something new. Not left this husk of a building standing here taunting us.” Cole growled, clenching his fists. Every time he looked at this damn spire it just brought up one memory or another. Walls of nindroids. One failed battle after another. And Zane…
“Cole…” Kai was looking at him now. “Trust me, I know how you feel. I know it hurts, but it’s not like it doesn’t hurt for the right reasons.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means we failed.” Kai narrowed his eyes. “We failed. We weren’t strong enough. That’s just the facts, no matter how much it hurts.” His gaze dropped. “If we never accept that we can’t move forward.”
Cole raised an eyebrow. “You’ve been really listening to your sister, huh?”
“Is she wrong?” Kai frowned. “Maybe you could learn a thing or two if you talked to her.”
“You know why I’d rather not.” Cole turned away. “My stupid fight with Jay just lent to our defeat.”
“Why you don’t talk to him either huh?”
“Jay doesn’t talk to anyone.” Cole kicked at a loose tile. “I know that you’ve noticed.”
“Yeah,” Kai sighed. “Wish I could help him out, but he keeps finding reasons to duck out.”
Cole shook his head. He couldn’t blame Jay. The guy probably had the same amount of guilt that Cole did over their dumb spat. It was so useless from the start. Cole didn’t even like Nya, he just fought with Jay to get back at him. And by this point in their lives Nya moved on. A few months ago she started dating Skylor, not long after the red-head opened her noodle shop.
“You ever wonder why it even happened?” Kai mumbled.
Cole looked at him. “Why what happened?”
“That we lost. I mean, we went through all that prophecy crap. About protecting the green ninja, about Lloyd being the green ninja, about facing the overlord. And then not even a year later he comes back, and he beats us.” He crossed his arms as if he was cold. “Makes you wonder why, yeah? Like… why did we even bother with all that if it was useless in the long run.”
“Yeah, I’ve wondered.” Cole said. “Just bites harder knowing that in a bunch of other universes we won the second go round too… but not in this one.”
“Ugh,” Kai groaned and tilted his head back. “No, this is too depressing. Come on, let’s get off this empty building and go hang out somewhere. It’s cold up here anyway.”
Cole smirked at him. “Cold? Says the ninja of fire.”
“Oh shut up, I don’t know how you aren’t with your sleeveless flannel and two open buttons.” Kai jabbed him on the chest, a dusting of pink forming on his cheeks. “Is that even necessary?”
“Jealous?” Cole leaned toward him.
Kai glared and stomped off toward the door. “You wish! Now come on. Let’s go grab a snack or something.”
He wouldn’t object to that. It was about time he stop staring into space anyway. He shrugged his shoulders and followed after, though he knew walking back out the lobby wouldn’t be any easier.
Though maybe between him and Kai they could produce enough chatter to distract him.
Marc Appreciation Week 2019| Day 4: Rainbow| “Color by Numbers”
And I’m barely on time for Day 4 of @wearemiraculous‘ challenge.  I don’t have time to edit it tonight, school and procrastination mean I’m posting this late at night, and I have some more homework I want to get done before tomorrow.
Again, the prompt interpretation was very loose here.  “Rainbow,” I interpreted to mean as... well, I think we all know what the rainbow’s supposed to mean.
Disclaimers were in Day 1.
(~2700 flipping words.)
Edit:  Something’s wonky with the url, so here’s a link to the chapter on AO3.
Subsequent Edit: It might work now, but I’m keeping the link up just in case.
Chapters:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
           “Alright,” Nathaniel surveyed.  “I don’t have a lot of homework tonight.  I can do the line-art up to page 3 while you’re settling the specific dialogue.”
           Marc looked at the sketchbook.  Nathaniel had filled in about five full pages with incredibly detailed pencil sketches, including multilayered shading, during the hour they had been sitting here.  On top of this, he’d created many new reference sketches for the two villains – Princess Fragrance with an updated costume, and the newly-created Ghostlight – as well as some new action poses for Reverser (Marc decided to keep the name after all).  It looked like something out of an actual, professional superhero comic, and he had the gall to sit here and claim he could only ink half of it.
           This boy was going to be the flipping death of him.
           “You’re really good,” he said before he could stop himself.  “I mean… you’re going to be famous one day.”
           “Hah.”  He shook his head and leaned back in his chair, smiling.  “No, I’m not there yet.  Maybe you, though, one day.”
           “N-no.”  Marc retreated into himself.  “I’ve just been writing what you told me.  It’s your story.”
           “It’s a crap story.”
           “No, it’s not.  It’s a great story, and it’s yours.  You’ve got great art, awesome designs, and the only weak thing here is my writing.”
           “You see,” Nathaniel said, sitting back up.  “That’s where you’re wrong on everything.”
           “You could’ve had the story without me,” Marc stated.  It wasn’t even an argument or an opinion in his eyes- it was just fact that Nathaniel was a better creator. “Just saying, you should have found someone better.”
           “Well, look at this.”  Marc’s journal was snatched out of his hands, despite his protests.  Nath pointed out the section Marc had already shown.  “This is emotional stuff, you hear? Reverser gets de-akumatized, he runs away when he doesn’t change back and Mighty-Illustrator finds him.”  He skimmed down the paragraph.  “All these parallels you drew between them, being the only ones to stay powered up even uncorrupted, all this, this depth you gave them that I never even thought they could have.”  He slammed down the journal and stared him down.  “This scene would be meaningless without your dialogue.”
           “It’s just words.”  Marc’s voice was weaker now.  “That’s all I’m good at.  And it was your story.  You set everything up, I just filled in the blanks.”
           “All you’re good at?”  Nathaniel released the journal from its captivity.  “Sure, fine, okay.  Words are all you’re good at.  And words were all Shakespeare was good at.  It was all Dumas was good for.  Everything Tolkien was good for.”  He pointed at it.  “This is just… you’re incredible, okay?  Seriously.  And trust me, once they see it, everyone’s gonna agree.  Then you’ll get the appreciation you deserve.”  He started placing his sketchbook, pens, and pencils into his bag.  “Now take a rest, man, you deserve it.  I’ll keep you posted.”
           It was one of Nathaniel’s many attributes.  He was so adamant that people he admired had a worth that exceeded his own, Marc had to wonder how he didn’t realize his own abilities.  No, drawing was just a thing he liked to do, never mind that he was so good at it.  Nathaniel seemed more interested in Marc’s contribution to the project, something Marc hadn’t expected from his first impressions. Now his friend was trying to moderate his wellbeing?
           Marc found himself unable to say no.
           Here he was, a trashy gay mess of a thing.  If Nathaniel kept up with his talent and humility and his whole coolest-person-on-the-planet deal, Marc would never shake his crush at this rate.
           Elsewhere in the room, Rose walked into the art room and made her way towards Juleka, who was tuning her guitar.  “Sorry Julie,” she apologized.  “I looked all over the classroom, and I couldn’t find your mirror anywhere.”
           “Really?” Juleka smirked, guitar on her knee, flashing the chain that was on her wrist. “What a surprise.”
           “Oh!”  Rose looked at the accessory in surprise.  “You found it!”
           “It was in the locker room.  I went down while you were across the hall.”  From behind her bass, she withdrew a small black box with a pink ribbon.  “I grabbed this, too.”
           Rose’s eyes widened at the unexpected object.  “Julie, what is this?”
           “An early surprise.”  The goth unstrapped the guitar to stand up and hand the present over. “I know our six-month anniversary isn’t till Saturday, but…”  A wide smile spread across her features.  “Well, I couldn’t wait.  I had to see your face when you opened it.”
           Rose looked at it in surprise.  “For me?”  She hesitantly picked it up from the gloved hand.  “Julie, you shouldn’t have.”
           “Oh, I kinda did.”  Juleka waved a hand dismissively.  “Considering you’re always getting me things, I had to return the favor somehow.”
           “No, you didn’t,” she argued, loosening the bow on top.  “You’re more than enough already.  I always feel like I’m in your debt.”  She almost dropped the box once she opened it and saw inside.  “Oh.  My.  God.”
           Marc stopped packing up to look across at the two.
           Rose gingerly fingered the sterling chain, hypnotized by the charm.  Marc couldn’t see it from his vantage point, but it was a small heart, the size of a coin, with spiked silver-colored bat wings coming off of it.  The heart was set in a chrome border, cast resin of swirling dark pink.  “Did you make this yourself?
           “Luka helped with the metalwork.  It’s not real silver, it’s tin, but… well, there isn’t really a difference.  You outshine both the same.”
           Rose stifled a laugh, unable to stop herself from tearing up in euphoria.  She rushed Juleka and enveloped her in a hug.  “I love it! I’ll wear it every day!”  She quickly clasped it around her neck.  “I love you so much!”  Rose forcefully pulled her face down (the downside of dating someone a head taller than her) and crashed into it.
           Marc stared at them, wondering what it’d be like to hold Nathaniel like that and kiss him like that.  And for just a second, watching their young love, he let himself dream that his crush wasn’t such a bad thing.
           “Oh, come on,” Alix groaned, breaking the spell.  “Teacher!  They’re at it again!”
           The girls separated, blushing when they realized they had an audience.
           The art teacher sighed.  “Alix…”  He got up from his seat.  “Girls,” he reminded, “you did say you had a lot of work to do.  I can only keep the room open for another half-hour.”
           Rose sighed.  “Yes, Mr.—”
           “Hey, Marc,” Nathaniel nudged him out of his observation.  “You okay? You should get some rest.”
           “I’m fine,” he assured, waving a hand towards the pair.  “Just, uh… researching our subjects, I guess.”
           “Oh yeah.  Rose and Juleka.”  Nath nodded. “They’re interesting, alright. Part of the reason I agreed to do them for the comic.  That reminds me, we should really start thinking about how we’re introducing Juleka’s new villain.”
           “Their dynamic is really weird.  Juleka’s normally really quiet.  But when she’s talking to Rose, it’s so much easier for her to talk.”
           “You noticed that too, huh?”
           “They’re…”  Marc bit his lip.  “They’re really happy, aren’t they?”
           “If not, they sure fooled me.”
           “Then… And they get to be themselves.”
           Nathan looked at them.  “Yeah,” he murmured.  “Good for them.”
           Rose and Juleka wrapped up, and Rose walked over to the Graphiti Gurl (as she requested it be spelled).  “That wasn’t very nice, Alix.”
          “I’m sorry,” Alix grunted, doodling in her homework. “I’m not in the mood today.”
           “I’m sorry to hear that.”  Nevertheless, she persisted.  “But you could have said nicely if we were bothering you.”
           “Probably.”  She looked up.  “I wasn’t in the mood for that either.”  They looked at each other for a moment.  “Don’t look at me like that.  I’m an ass, it’s in my genetics.”
           “Right next to the ace gene?” Juleka asked.
           “Oh,” Alix grinned, “you bet your bass it is.”
           “You okay?”
           “Yeah, just not terribly into everyone’s hyperromantic bullshit today.”  She closed her workbook.  “No offense in particular to the lovely gay couple in here.”
           Marc suddenly found himself speaking.  “It’s not as if their love is a hindrance to your life.”
           “It is a little in my case.”  She turned to Marc.  “But it’s not cause they’re gay, if that’s what you’re thinking.  I’d be just as moody if a straight couple did what they just did.  I’m just not a lovely person.  It always seems so fake, the way they people those things, and it gives me a weird sense of… squick.”  She shuddered.  “I’m aromantic, if you didn’t know.”
           “Sorry?”
           “I don’t fall in love.  Aromantic/Asexual, I don’t even get crushes.”
           “Huh.”  Marc sat down closer to her.  “I didn’t know that was a thing.”
           “Not many people do.  It’s the more obscure end of the sexuality spectrum.”  She gestured all around them.  “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but almost everyone in this room is queer.”
           “R-really?”
           “Yep.”  Alix cracked her knuckles and stared him down.  “That better not be a problem, Shakespeare.”
           “No, I… I just thought there was supposed to be some… ten-percent statistic or something.”
           This elicited a laugh from the punk.  “Marc, Marc, my dear Marc,” she put her feet up on another chair.  “We are Parisian.  We are the ten-percent statistic.”
           Marc was overwhelmed with yet another emotion he couldn’t name.  “So,” he stalled.  “You’re all… gay?”
           “Queer,” Rose corrected.  “That’s the blanket term.  You already know Juleka and I are dating, right?”
           “Well, yeah, but—”
           “Well, I’m bisexual.”  She put a hand on the taller shoulder and leaned into her.  “And she’s a lesbian.”
           “I noticed.”  Marc did a double-take.  “Wait, hang on, did you say everyone?”
           “Well, everyone but you, maybe.  Even the art teacher’s out.”
           “So, what about…”  He turned to his writing partner.
           Nathaniel realized everyone was looking at him.  “Um… I don’t…” he buried his nose into Marc’s writing journal, masterfully evading whatever question they were going to ask before they asked it.
           “Forget it,” Alix said.  “He’s gone statue again.  I can never get anything out of him like this.”  “Hey, anyone see where the art teacher went?”
           “It’s 16:30.”  “He must have left.  Guess we can leave now.”
           “Alright.”  Alix scooped everything into her bag.  “Later, losers.  Nate?”
           Nath left with her.  Marc walked out as well, Rose and Juleka at his heels.
           ‘Everyone in here is different,’ he mused.  ‘Like me.  Could I…’
           “Hey Shakespeare,” Nath stopped him.  “Your bag.”
           ‘Shoot.’
           Marc ran up to catch the closing door.  “See you tomorrow, he called, retreating back inside.
           ‘Maybe one day.’
           “Rose,” beckoned Juleka, at the base of the metal stairs.  “You coming?”
           Rose bit her lip nervously.  “Behind you, my love.”  She turned back towards the room.  “I’ll catch up.”
           He stuffed everything into his sack, and he was about to leave when…
           “Rose?” he asked, looking at the girl in the doorway with confusion.  “What are you doing here?”
           “I think we need to talk.”
           “… about the comic?”
           “About you.”  She stepped forward.  “You’re acting really weird.”
           “Uhhh…… this is how I normally act.”
           “And it’s really weird.  You flipped out about Juleka yesterday, and today you were kinda staring at us, and you were interested in our dating preferences.”  She gave him a sharp poke in the ribs.  “You don’t have a crush on my girlfriend, do you?”
           “N-no,” Marc yelped.  “I-I don’t.”
           “Then why are you stuttering?”
           “B-because you’re… really close up, it’s actually kind of uncomfortable.”
           “Oh, sorry.”  She backed away.  “Let’s see, then… it’s something about a crush, though isn’t it?  I’m really good at telling when someone has a crush.”
           “I-I don’t want to—”
           “Come on, I won’t judge—”
           “Please, Rose, can you just drop it!?”
           Rose quieted, shocked at Marc’s rise in volume. He instantly regretted his tone.
           “I’m sorry.”  He panicked.  “Oh, geez, I’m sorry.”
           “It’s okay.”
           He stood there, letting the atmosphere soak up the noise.  Then, with his voice so low he might as well have stayed silent, he mumbled.  “I like boys.”
           “Oh.”  Rose smiled sympathetically.  “I… That can’t have been easy for you.  I promise, it doesn’t make a lick of difference.”
           She held out her hand.  “Friends?”
           Marc stared at it.
           For the first time in his life, there was someone who was queer, and who knew he was gay, and who… wanted to be his friend.
           Here, in front of him, was someone who might know what was wrong with him.
           “Is it… normal?”
           Rose smiled.  “Yes.”
           “Not that.”  He summoned his courage.  “Is it normal for… for gay men to… not feel like men sometimes?”
           That was it.  The leap of faith.  Either he was normal, there was something in his life that could even be considered normal, and he might be able to live with that.
           Rose wasn’t smiling anymore though.  Her eyes had gone wide, and she was looking at Marc with dismay.
           “I… I don’t think so.”
           Marc shattered.
           “Why do… why do you ask?”
           “Because I’m fucked up.”  He fell back onto the box, clutching his arms and hunching over. His hollow eyes started dripping black mascara, spilling over from an over-filled heart.  “Because I’m not normal, and I like boys instead of girls, and sometimes…”
           Rose didn’t answer, or bid him continue, or say anything that could help him determine how she’d react.
           He sniffed.  “Sometimes… I think I’d feel better if…”  He was just waiting now, any moment, Rose was going to turn and walk away in disgust.  “It’s-It’s fucking crazy, but…”
           Rose put a hand on his shoulder.  “Hey…” she whispered.  “You can let it out.”
           With one final push, and the reassurance he needed, he forced himself to.
           “Sometimes I want to be a girl!”
           Rose hugged him.  Marc weakly returned the embrace, burying his face into her shoulder.
           “There, there,” she consoled, a voice genuinely caring about his trouble.  “So is that why you freaked out when… oh.  Reflekta zapped you, didn’t she?”
           Marc sobbed a little.  Rose held him tighter.
           The pain was getting too big to ignore now.
           He shifted in his seat and Rose let go.  “But just, like,” he blubbered.  “I’m fine, a lot of the time.  Being me, being a boy.  It’s just sometimes… not all the time, but sometimes I wish my chest was bigger and I didn’t have a—”  He looked up, blushing.
           Rose got the picture.  “Oh, buddy… Is that it?”  She took a deep breath.  “Well, I can’t say I know much about dysphoria, but I guess—”
           “Does it even count as dysphoria?  If I don’t feel it all the time?”  He grabbed at his hair, the stress overcoming him.  “And that’s not even all of it… sometimes I just feel wrong.  No matter how much makeup I put on, how feminine I look, it’s always wrong, like nothing I can do will make me look right.  And sometimes, the more I use, the less it works.  And it feels like I’m missing some crucial detail, but I don’t know what, and it just leaves me feeling… empty.”  He covered his face with his hands.  “I feel like that now.”
           “I’ve done some reading online,” Rose said. “Dysphoria hits in different ways sometimes.  If you’re a girl…”  She trailed off, surveying him.  “If you’re actually a girl, you shouldn’t force yourself to be a boy.  That could really be bad for you, with the coginate… distance – shoot, I heard Max say it once. When you try to accept two different things at the same time?”
           “Doublethink?”
           “Sounds right.  Maybe.”
           Marc chuckled ruefully.  “So you think I’ve tricked myself into being a boy?”
           “Maybe.  Whatever it is, I’ll help you.”  She caressed his shoulder again, offering her comforting touch.  “You can be yourself, Marc, no one can take that from you.”
           “Trust me.”
You know what, any editing of this work after I post these will come after the week is already finished.  I am not giving myself more to do.  But these are done for now, until I think of any better rewordings.
(How I wrote this: I typed out a few cool moments ahead of time, got distracted, and connected them all on the day it was due.)
Comments much appreciated, as always, I want to know if there’s anything I should change in future chapters.
Hey, sorry if this is a little weird, a random person in your askbox, but with talk about tammy and her shortcomings as a writer, I wanted to interject. While I DO believe tammy isn't a fantastic writer, imo her main issues are; she seems to favor quantity over quality, and has bad time management. She works on multiple comics, and strictly commits to her once a week updates. She posting pages before the comic is fully complete(?), shes on a time constraint to get pages drawn, and (1/3)
most likely be forced to rush to get them out the door at some point. On top of this, she has to keep in mind that we only see one page a week, and I feel like it effects the pacing. IMO, tammy doesn't necessarily lack skill with character development and proper character interaction, she just doesn't give herself time to do it. Throughout CCT and ESPECIALLY OE, it feels like some of the pages are missing panels and are spaced too far apart (2/3)
You can see in some of the pages she wants to do more, but doesn't have the room to do it. Pair all this with the fact shes so excited with starting BUP (which I don't blame her) and even more time is taken away from her. Tbh I feel like if she got better at time management, and when shes down to one comic for continuous updates, she could greatly improve and put more thought into her writing, by. giving. herself, ROOM. (3/3)
ok so im gonna try and sum up your points just for my own ease of understanding this: 1. you agree that she’s not great re: time and
actually wow im so bad at reading comprehension rn. thot you were trying to start discourse not just add your own point of view LOL im so good at this
personally i feel like she is good at time management, she’s just... idk... i wanna say she’s just focusing on bup way more than cct. because she was able to keep up four comics at a time (rd, ice climbers, cct, and the private nsfw cct comic i think), but she finished rd a while ago and ice climbers is almost finished on the patreon side. she basically has half as many comics going as she used to. (and a bit off topic but now that i think about it, i don’t think her writing re:character development declined from where I felt it was at while reading first match two years ago, it’s just becoming more relevant and visible now.) so it’s not rushed because she just doesn’t Have time, but she’s probably managing it poorly
ok so i came back to this after i wrote the above bit at 11 pm last night and wrote like three paragraphs and then tumblr crashed on me and deleted them so uhhh im gonna. rewrite all that. remember kids, when writing long tumblr posts, write them in the drafts page and save often. or just write them in word or gdocs or something just make sure you wont let tumbly fuck u over
so. personally I believe she’s not really having a time management issue. she has fewer running comics than she used to - she’s finished RD, ice climbers is nearly done on patreon, and the nsfw comic she once had going has been long over - and even when doing four comic updates a week she still managed to be successful. ice climbers is fully sketched and just three pages away from finishing on patreon. cct is 8 pages ahead on patreon and tammy sometimes leaves responses like ‘oh just wait till next page’ so I think it’s safe to say she has a couple pages sketched in advance. she’s been doing comics for at least a decade, i think she’s pretty experienced in that area by now.
i agree she’s rushed, but not in regards to bad time management. she’s got a good work schedule for herself, but with her focus shifted to bottled up, she’s rushing herself in terms of comic progress. she clearly wants to start bup as soon as possible, and that means finishing her other comics as soon as possible. and to nobody’s surprise, rushed comics are lower quality! she plans to start bup before the end of the year. there’s expected to be ten or so more  patreon pages in cct, or about 19/20 publicly, and there’s twelve more thursdays this year. and ice climbers is gonna stretch into the new year too, ending on jan 8th i think. (so unless she decides to give another slot to one of those two she’s probably gonna give the former RD update day to bup if she wants to start it publicly this year.)
though I do think she has an issue with writing. she’s said before that for cct, she never writes down her plot lines in advance. she just keeps them in her head until she sketches the pages. and i feel like this really screws with pacing and also just the writing in general. idk if you’ve seen it but a while ago there was a post floating around of pixar’s writing tips - one of which was “putting it on paper lets you start fixing it”. which I feel really applies to tammy. if she wrote down her plans before sketching them, i feel like she could work them out at a better pace and with better quality. she also tends to think of a lot of stories and plotlines she wants to get to, but ends up with way too much on her plate and never manages to get around to covering most of them. also the one page a week schedule definitely affects pacing too. i feel like since we have to wait a week to see each page, it’s kinda common for them to end on cliffhangers to keep readers hooked (like yesterday’s public page)
also related, she doesn’t…. stay true to her word. i had another example for this but its mostly regarding future comic stuff thats currently patreon only rip. but you know for tetrox’s story. she’s recently been talking about how tetrox was the octarian soldier who attacked whinter back in HoI. and i think at one point she had a more in depth story planned for tetrox (and probably also arnick) regarding that, but since she wants to get onto bup soon she made the decision to skip it over and just move onto final match, and how her original plan was to have tetrox be an infiltrating soldier who planned to take the zapfish again. and she’s been saying that since she isn’t going to do that tetrox arc, that she might change tetrox’s backstory to be more like octo expansion’s story - watched the match against Octavio, decided to run away to the surface to join inkling society. And personally I feel like it’s … really telling of tammy’s character (as in, how she is as a writer) that she decided to just change her backstory because she knew she wouldn’t get to writing the comic.
a while ago on patreon she answered an ask of mine with the sentence “My stories and especially my mind changes all the time. So, holding me to things I say months back isn’t really the best idea.” and that’s really…. bothersome to me because while I love stories that develop and bloom as they move along, like cct (and also ovw’s lore), it’s incredibly disappointing when you practically memorize the lore and then the writer decides to retcon major details. and it shows how she hasn’t been planning well enough to keep what she’s already said in the past as canon. going back to the third paragraph, she might not have this issue if she wrote down her stories before sketching them, But Alas. :(
tldr: i believe she doesn’t have an issue with short-term workloads, but instead has trouble with long-term planning and writing her story.
#(also its not weird being a random person)#(also from ur bio im p sure i know who u are lol. wont say tho)#hopefully im gonna revisit this later on cause hhhhoooooooo boy im just spittin words all over the place . incoherent#asks#bup-oh#tt#ramblins#thank god i had one (1) of my paragraphs copied down lol#shoutout to sammy pyrofleurs for helping me edit/revise this!#also didn't include this in the paragraph but i definitely feel like she's experiencing some kind of burnout#i mean. for two years she was doing three pages a week plus weekly streams and maybe a dozen commissions per month#she's been able to stay on top of it amazingly well but it definitely has been taking a toll on her regarding stress and stuff#like she used to regularly play splatoon and this might just be nostalgia for splat1 but iirc she hasn't touched her switch in months#also not really connected to anything else but for whinter's character. he hasn't appeared in comic for nearly two years and hasn't gotten#much in comic character development. but now in FM (and this may be in part because of how she's working on bup) he's front and center#and his role as the protagonist is just being played up SO much and it feels like All Of A Sudden he's an expert on other people's trauma#which he wasn't present for and barely knows about. in general he just has no prior involvement in the leaders' story but now that he's here#and the Main Character™‚ it feels like the responsibility of fixing all this falls on him even though its really not his business. idk#it's just so clear that he's tammys favorite and the true protagonist of cct even though none of that had been shown prior to FM#we got three consecutive chapters with bella where we actually got to learn about her as a character and get a vague idea of her motives#and none of that for whinter! or really anyone on cct! all we know is that he NEEDS to get revenge against bella for what she did.#even though it had no direct effect on him#wow ok enough talking! thanks anyone who read all this#uh i had smthn else to add but i forgot f#OH YEAH. i had a couple other paragraphs but i decided to cut them out#cause one was rly off topic and the other was just me complaining and i sounded like an asshole lol
Tumblr media
I sat on my bed after getting dropped off, my mind preoccupied with the strange events that happened tonight and Steve. I’ve heard that he was an asshole and then he changed when he dropped his “friends”, Tommy and Carol. I grabbed my school bag, taking my sketchbook out and a pencil, beginning to mindlessly draw.
I bite my lip when I realized I was drawing Steve, blushing a bit, glad that no one could see me because that’d be embarrassing. Haven’t even known him for that long and you’re already falling for him? Who am I? After finishing the quick sketch, looking at it, smiling to myself. I placed the book on the desk next to my bed before sliding under the covers, switching off the lamp as I try to get some sleep.
Rapid knocking on my door jolted me from my sleep, sitting up quickly as I squinted. Sunlight shone into my room, running my fingers through my hair as I got out of bed, cracking my door open, seeing my sister standing on the other side of it. “What is it?” I asked groggily, rubbing my left eye.
“There’s a boy outside asking for you,” Audrey smirked, wiggling her eyebrows as my eyes widened, closing the door quickly before running to the other side of my room. I whipped open the curtains, seeing Steve standing outside the front door, standing with his hands stuffed in his pockets, something I’ve noticed quite often.
I opened my window, “Steve?” I called out and he looked up, giving me a small wave and smile upon seeing me. I glanced at the clock on my nightstand, seeing it was almost noon. I looked back out the window, jumping slightly as Steve climbed up to my window. “Oh, hi… I-I apologize. I didn’t realize I slept so late.”
“It’s okay. I just got here. I kind of woke up late as well. Dustin will understand, I’m sure.” He chuckled, leaning against the window frame.
“Let me, uh, get dressed real quick and I’ll meet you out front,” I told him and he nodded, jumping down. I leaned out the window, seeing him dust himself off as I let out a sigh of relief. He’s crazy.
I opened my closet, pulling out a maroon sweater and a grey tank top, placing them on my bed before grabbing a pair of light denim jeans from my dresser. I quickly got dressed, slipping on a pair of white socks, going into my ensuite, brushing my teeth and such. I tied my tennis shoes before heading out the door, telling my parents I was going to a friends house.
Steve and I walked to his car, driving towards Dustin’s house, my hands clasped together in my lap as music softly plays in the background. “Did you sleep well… knowing all this information?” Steve asked me, glancing over at me for a split second before returning his gaze back to the road.
“Uh, not really hence why I woke up late.” I chuckled, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I ended up drawing for a couple hours before finally getting to sleep.” I smiled, recalling the fact that I ended up drawing him.
“You draw?” He asked, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
“Yeah, it’s a hobby of mine. I usually end up drawing if I’m bored or can’t sleep.” I glanced out the window as we pulled into Dustin’s driveway, seeing the excited young boy run towards the car, quickly getting in the BMW.
“Finally you guys are here. Did you guys like end up losing track of time while making out or something?” He asked and both Steve and I glanced back at the curly haired boy, our eyes widened.
“W-We didn’t… What? No. Where the hell did you get that idea?” I asked, my cheeks flushed a bit.
“Yeah, we both woke up late… in our own houses.” Steve corrected, glancing at me as my eyes were on the middle console of the vehicle.
“Sure. I’ll believe that.” Dustin laughed as Steve started the car, rolling his eyes. I sat forward, keeping my eyes on the road as I tried to get my body heat to drop. Me making out with Steve? Like that'll ever happen.
Steve parked the car on the side of the road where the train tracks begin, the three of us getting out heading towards the back of the car.
Dustin’s friend Lucas, I think, finally got back to him, the two of them talking over the walkie-talkie as Steve took a book bag out of the trunk, his trusty bat poking out of it as he placed it on his back.
“Just meet, Steve, Y/N, and I at the old junkyard,” Dustin mentioned as Steve handed me a pair of gloves.
“Steve? As in Steve Harrington?” Lucas’ voice came through the walkie and I chuckled, shaking my head as I grabbed the gloves out of Steve’s hands, our fingers brushing against one another’s.
I glanced up at him, giving him a small smile as I slipped them onto my hands, as I grabbed one of the buckets filled with cut meat.
“Alright, let's go,” Steve mentioned, the three of us heading down the track, the two boys walking in front of me.
I dropped a piece of meat every ten feet, admiring the woods around me, hearing Dustin and Steve talking in front of me.
“Alright, so let me get this straight. You kept something you knew was probably dangerous in order to impress a girl… who you just met?” Steve asked, confused as he threw another piece of meat on the ground.
“Alright, that’s grossly oversimplifying things,” Dustin stated, throwing down a slab of raw beef.
“I mean, why would a girl like some nasty slug anyway?” Steve asked another question. I walked a bit faster, catching up to Steve as he walked a bit behind Dustin.
“Maybe she’s into it.” I joked, tossing down raw food.
“See! She gets it. An interdenominational slug is awesome, dude.” Dustin glanced back at us, a huge grin on his face as I smile at the young child.
“Well, even if she thought it was cool, which she didn’t, I… I just… I don’t know. I feel like you’re trying way too hard.” Steve cleared up, tossing meat behind his shoulder before glancing down at me. “Don’t you think?” He asked for an opinion.
“I mean, I don’t know. It's kind of sweet I guess? If I was into interdenominational slugs I’d be down for it.” I divulged and Dustin turned around to give me a high five. I laughed, clapping our hands together as Steve scoffs.
“Well everyone can’t have your perfect hair, Steve,” Dustin said after he turned around. I glanced up at Steve’s hair, tempted to run my fingers through it, but decide against it since I’m wearing meat covered gloves and it would be weird…
“It’s not about the hair, man. The key with girls is just acting like you don’t care.” Steve disclosed and I frowned, throwing meat on the tracks. That’s not it at all.
“Even if you do?” Dustin asked, glancing at my saddened expression and Steve just nodded his head.
“Yeah, exactly. It drives them nuts.”
“Or it gives off the vibe that you don’t feel the same way and they try to move on and end up with someone, so how far does that really get you?” I explained, rubbing my nose with the inside of my arm.
Steve’s mouth opened and closed, looking befuddled. “Uhm, okay, good point.” He muttered, narrowing his eyebrows.
“So, if you act like you don’t care, then what?” The young child asked, glancing back at us.
“You just wait till, uh, you feel it.” Steve hit Dustin’s shoulder lightly with the back of his hand.
“Feel what?” Dustin and I both asked as I’ve become intrigued by his logic of girls.
Steve threw down a couple more pieces of meat before answering our question. “It’s like before it’s gonna storm, you know?” He paused, glancing at the ground. “You can’t see it, but you can feel it, like this, uh… electricity.”
“Oh like in the electromagnetic field when the clouds in the atmosphere-,” Dustin begins to get all sciencey when Steve cuts him off.
“No, no, no, no, no. Like a… like a sexual electricity.” He clarified and I rolled my eyes, thrusting meat to the ground, glancing between the two of them as they bonded, if you could call this that. “You feel that and then you make your move.”
“So that’s when you kiss her?” Dustin asked and my eyes widened, muttering an “oh Jesus,” as Steve reaches his hand out.
“No, whoa, whoa. Slow down, Romeo.” Steve laughed, glancing over towards me since I’ve been quiet this entire time, basically. Dustin apologized quietly as Steve continued his thought. “Sure, okay, some girls, yeah. They want you to be aggressive. You know, strong, hot and heavy, like a lion.”
I pressed my lips into a thin line, trying not to laugh as I shook my head. Girls are fucking crazy. What’s wrong with us? “Is that how you are, Y/N? You like it hot and heavy?” Dustin asked me and I blushed a bit, not expecting this kind of question.
“Uh…” I trailed off, pretending to think about it as I felt Steve’s eyes staring at the side of my face before shaking my head. “N-No, I like it slow.” I muttered, embarrassed a bit since I haven’t had a “real” boyfriend. The one I had in elementary school doesn’t really count apparently.
“See, that’s another one! Slow and stealthy like a ninja.” Steve mentioned and I nodded in agreement.
“So, what’s Nancy?” Dustin asked and I looked up at Steve, seeing his face drop slightly. I frowned, realizing that they might not even be together anymore as he answered.
“Nancy’s different. She’s different than the other girls. Kinda like Y/N.” My lips parted slightly as I stopped for a moment, the two continuing as I threw a piece of meat, continuing forward as my mind tuned out the conversation, thinking about what Steve had said. I’m… different? He thinks I’m different?
I was so entrapped in my thoughts that I hadn’t noticed them stopped, running into Steve’s back, putting up my hands to stop myself when I prick a couple fingers on some of the nails on his bat. “Ouch,” I muttered, taking the glove off and glancing down at my finger to see it bleeding a bit, but not too badly. “Sorry…”
“Jesus, are you okay?” Steve asked, taking my hand in his after sliding one of his gloves off and he ran a finger over the wound. I nodded my head, feeling my heartbeat pound against my ribcage. “Gotta be careful. Don’t get too lost in that pretty head of yours.” He laughed as the three of us continued walking again.
My cheeks flushed, feeling the warmth of them as I swallowed thickly. “Okay,” I whispered, sliding the glove back on.
We reached our destination of the Hawkins junkyard, Steve sliding his glasses off as he looked around. “Oh yeah, yeah, this will do.”
He walked towards the bus as Dustin and I stayed behind a bit. “So, do you like Steve?” The young boy asked me and I groaned.
“No, Henderson, I don’t,” I muttered lying to him and myself as I walked after Steve. I laid a few more pieces of meat down as we got towards the middle, the three of us dumping the rest into a pile.
“I said medium-well.” A young voice called out and the three of us looked up, seeing what I assume to be Lucas and another teenage girl with him as they walked towards us after waving.
“Who the hell is that?” Steve and I asked at the same time, glancing towards each other for a few seconds before I look back at the two kids.
Steve, the random girl, and I began getting to work as Dustin and Lucas chatted behind an old vehicle.
“Steve, can you help me with this?” I called out, not being able to move this giant metal object that’s blocking what we needed.
“Yeah.” He answered, jogging over to me as I stood to the side, watching and slightly admiring him as he moved the thing with ease. Steve placed it down next to a washer machine, turning to face me as he wiped his hands off. “Impressed?” He grinned, using his charm as I chuckled, shrugging my shoulders playfully.
“Maybe, I don’t know. I’ll have to keep an eye out for when you do more impressive things.” I grinned, taking the metal roofing and bringing it to the bus, laying it on the outside. I went back over towards Steve, crouching down to grab a few more metal slabs as he looked around.
“Where the hell are the other two?” He asked and I pointed towards the old rusted vehicle. Steve scoffed, heading towards the two youngins, smacking a metal folding chair against the car. “Hey, dickheads! How come the only one helping me is Y/N and this random girl?” He asked and I laughed, shaking my head as I brought the metal to the bus, letting out a huff of breath, resting my hands on my hips, watching their interaction. “We lose light in like forty minutes. Let’s go.” He muttered beginning to walk off, continuing to yell, “let’s go, I said!”
The two kids yelled at him, following as we begin to place the metal onto the bus, creating a bunker for when the night comes, setting our trap. Steve took the gas can, pouring a trail of gasoline from the pile of meat to the doors of the bus. The random girl, Max, taking the ladder into the bus, shoving it through the emergency exit that’s on the roof of the bus.
As dusk came around, the five of us got into the bus, Steve closing the doors behind us as I sat down on the ground, playing with my fingers. Steve sat down next to me as we sat in silence, watching the sun continue to set, darkness settling over.
The charming older teenager began playing with the lighter, Dustin pacing around in front of us as Max speaks up. “So you really fought one of these things before?” Steve nodded his head, his other hand brushing mine lightly, my cheeks flushing. “And you’re, like, totally, one hundred percent sure it wasn’t a bear?” Max asked, her arms crossed over her chest.
“Shit. Don’t be an idiot. Okay? It wasn’t a bear. Why are you even here if you don’t believe us?” Dustin asked, quite rudely, as I frowned and her eyes went wide. “Just go home.” He muttered, walking towards the end of the bus.
“Geesh. Someone’s cranky. Past your bedtime?” She asked, getting up before heading up the ladder to sit on the roof with Lucas, who’s keeping a lookout.
“That’s good. Just show her you don’t care.” Steve mentioned and I frowned, even more, looking towards the young boy.
“I don’t,” Dustin admitted, looking down at us as Steve winked at him, a small laugh escaping my lips. “Why are you winking, Steve? Stop.” He mumbled, sitting down on one of the old tattered seats.
I sighed, pushing myself off the floor as I stepped towards Dustin, sitting in the empty spot next to him, laying a hand on his back. “You okay?” I whispered, leaning my head down a bit.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” He asked me and I gave him a small smile.
“Because I saw the way you looked when she showed up with Lucas. Listen, I don’t know much about relationships. I mean, I haven’t had a boyfriend before, only in elementary school, but apparently, it doesn’t count.” I mumbled, clasping my hands together as he looked towards me. “Girls like it when you show them that you care. I know Steve’s had much more experience and some girls probably eat that “don’t care” shit up, but I think Max is the type of girl who likes a guy who cares.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m pretty sure she likes Lucas, but thanks for the advice.” He smiled and I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, giving him a tight hug.
“You’re alright, Dustin.” I grinned, rubbing his back. His arms wrapped around my torso as my eyes glanced towards Steve, his already on me.
“You too, Y/N.”
After talking to Dustin I walked back over to Steve, sitting down next to him as he kept his eyes on me. I glanced up at him, rubbing my hands together as it was getting a little cold on the bus.
“You’re really good with kids.” He mumbled, running a hand through his hair. I shrugged my shoulders, leaning my head against his shoulder.
“I have a younger sister. Plus it’s weird to see him so down when he’s been giddy the past couple days I’ve known.” I muttered, feeling the warmth radiate from his shoulder. Steve wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me a bit closer.
A loud screech or growl echoed throughout the area, making me jump as I gripped Steve’s arm, all three of us getting up to look out the gated window.
“You see him?” Dustin asked and Steve shook his head.
“No.”
“Lucas? What’s going on?” Dustin yelled, looking up the ole in the roof for a second before looking back out the window. My heartbeat picked up rapidly, my hands becoming sweaty as my breathing quickened.
“Hold on,” Lucas called out as we looked around the foggy junkyard. “I’ve got eyes! Ten o’clock! Ten o’clock!”
I squinted, seeing a small figure that’s on all fours and I backed up a bit, hitting the ladder behind me. “Holy shit...” I muttered, resting a hand on my forehead.
“What’s he doing?” Dustin asked.
“I don’t know,” Steve answered as they continued to stare out the window. “It’s not taking the bait. Why isn’t it taking the bait?” He asked the youngin.
“Maybe he’s not hungry.”
“Maybe he’s sick of cow,” Steve muttered, stepping back as he looked like he just got an idea. He began walking towards the front of the bus as I stepped up.
“Steve? Steve, wait, no.” I called out, placing my hand on his arm as he stopped, turning around to face me. “Please don’t do this.”
“It’ll be okay. Just get ready.” He tossed the lighter to Dustin, stepping down towards the door as he glanced back at me, nodding for me to open it. I shook my head, getting a little teary-eyed as he walked towards me. “Hey… I’ll be fine. We need to lure it in somehow.” Steve whispered, one of his hands softly rubbing my arm.
“Just… come back, okay?” I breathed my hands on his torso. He smiled, nodding his head slowly and before he could turn away, I pressed my lips against his in a short kiss, pulling away after a couple of seconds.
Steve’s lips parted, looking down at me in surprise as I tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. “I’ll definitely come back alive if I can kiss you again.” He mumbled.
I giggled, fumbling with his denim jacket as I nodded my head. “You can kiss me after you come back safely.” I opened the door to the bus as Steve grinned, stepping out into the open as he swung his bat around.
I closed the door, heading over to stand next to Dustin as Max came down the ladder. I could hear Steve mutter to himself, walking closer to the pile of meat.
“What’s he doing?” Max asked.
“Expanding the menu,” Dustin responded and I frowned, nibbling on my bottom lip.
The demodog began to get into sight, Steve eyeing it carefully. “Steve! Watch out!” Lucas yelled from up top and my heart stopped. “Three o’clock! Three o’clock!”
I looked towards the direction three o’clock would be in, seeing a few more demodogs jumping onto some old vehicles. “Oh no…” I muttered, the color draining from my face as he spun in a circle noticing more of them around him. I ran towards the front of the bus, opening the door. “Steve! Come back! Come on!” I yelled desperately.
One of the demons darted towards him as he swiftly moved out of the way, rolling across a rusted hood. Another leaped towards him, which Steve swung the nailed bat in its strange face before making his way back towards the bus. The kids were encouraging him on as he dived in and I closed the door. Steve’s arm laid against my legs, placing a piece of metal slab against the door before pressing his foot against it.
I couldn’t concentrate on anything anyone was saying as my breathing became heavier, on the verge of a panic attack. The bus began to shake as I held on to the seat tightly. “S-Steve…” I muttered, my heart beating against my chest.
“It’s okay. Just breathe, alright? I’ll keep you safe, I promise.” He muttered, grabbing my hand as we stood away from the door. I froze when I heard loud footsteps stomping on the roof, looking up through the opening seeing the demodog. I let out a scream as it opened its mouth, Steve pushing me out of the way. “Get out of the way, Y/N! You want some? Come get this!” He yelled at it and it screeched down at us before his attention was brought somewhere else, taking off in the direction of the woods.
I furrowed my eyebrows together in confusion, my hand gripping Steve’s jacket as I let out a sigh of relief. The five of us quietly made our way out of the bus, seeing one last demodog running off in the distance.
“What happened?” Lucas asked, glancing around. I stepped off the bus, leaning my hands against my knees, taking deep breaths.
“Steve scared them off?” Dustin questioned, not sure what happened either as I ran my fingers through my hair.
“No,” Steve muttered, turning around, bat resting on his shoulder. “They’re going somewhere. Alright, let’s get back to my car. You three,” he points towards Lucas and Max, “follow where they’re going. I’m going to drop Y/N off home since she’s seen quite enough.”
I hugged myself, feeling Steve’s hand resting on my lower back as we dispersed. We walked quickly back to his car, taking about ten minutes. The two of us got into his car, driving back towards my house as I couldn’t stop my hands from shaking.
Steve reached over, grabbing my hand, intertwining our fingers as his thumb rubbed the back of my hand. “It’s gonna be okay. We’re going to end this.” He told me, glancing over at me for a few seconds.
He pulled into my driveway, turning towards me as I stared forward, my mind racing with the events of tonight. “I don’t know how you guys… those kids can handle this.” I muttered, rubbing my hands on my face, looking over at the charming man in the driver's seat.
“I know. I don’t know how they do it either, but they’re strong kids.” Steve told me.
“They are…” I trailed off, leaning my head against the headrest. “Has anyone told you that you have incredible hair?” I asked, smiling softly as he chuckled, nodding his head.
“Actually, yes.” Steve grinned, running his fingers through his lovely hair. I bit my bottom lip, reaching my hand over running my own fingers through his hair. Holy shit it’s soft. “Having fun?” He asked, laughing a bit as I nodded.
“It’s really soft.” I giggled, looking into his eyes before he leans down, pressing his lips against mine. I laid my other hand on his cheek, moving my lips against his as I wrapped the other around his neck, playing with the tiny hairs.
Steve pulled away from me, resting his forehead against mine as our breath hits each other’s lips, his fingers softly tracing my cheekbone. “Can I call you tomorrow?” He asked me, and I nodded my head, smiling softly.
“Yeah, definitely.” I got out of the car, leaning against the window as he opened it, smiling at me. “Goodnight, Steve.”
“If you have trouble sleeping tonight, don’t be afraid to call me,” Steve smirked and I glanced around, licking my lips slightly.
“I mean… you could just stay over, so I don’t have to call you. My parents are out with some friends and my sister is most likely asleep. You won’t have to climb up to my window.” I mentioned and he turned his car off, getting out, locking the doors before we head to my house.
Can i ask what (& why) Mina dragon is protecting?
You mean in the pic I posted? That’s just Baku and Kiri haha they’re there more for scale than anything else, really
Anon said:What role do Denki and Sero have in your take on the fantasy AU?
Sero’s a simple normal non-magic herbs merchant and amateur healer, Kaminari’s a lightning mage and a swordsman! They both also stumbled their way into being bards of sort, more for fun than anything else really - they used to travel alone and then they travelled together, till they travelled into the dragons’ territory without even realizing. Somehow, they managed to not die and get on the prince’s good side enough to be allowed to freely roam and maybe stay if they so wished
(they so wished)
Anon said:Ahh are you okay? If everything’s bad and all, feel better soon 🌟
Ahhhh, you’re sweet ;u; thank you!!
Anon said:Hey, I just really wanted to thank you! I only found you a couple months ago but your art has really inspired me. I owe a lot to you on finding an art style that’s comfortable for me. Not to mention, everything you do with Bakugou and Kirishima is the damn cutest thing and I can only love them more~! So thank you for all your lovely work!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man that makes me super happy to hear!!!!!!!! I’m really really glad my messy art could help you like that haha and thank you so much for the compliments too aaaahhhh!!!!
Anon said:If you ever get around to some more fusions, how about some of the teachers with some students like midnight-bakugou and aizawa-momo?
ngl I have about maybe forty asks in my inbox with fusions suggestions in them, and I’m just letting them pile up cause… that au hasn’t been fun lately, but I think it might be again in the future? Maybe? So I’m leaving those there and waiting for inspiration to strike again - that said, I’m sort of intrigued about these specific combos :O why Midnight and Bakugou specifically? The more I think about this the more I can’t tell if what’d come out would be something sexy or just utterly ridiculous lmao
Anon said:Just imagine Kiri and Baku getting married, and Fatgum is the one to give Kiri away and they couldn’t decide on a best man so there’s like 5 people giving speeches and there are Manly Tears shed.
What do you mean imagine, isn’t this exactly how it’s gonna go hahaha tho I can totally see Bakugou being 100% unaware of the best man situation, at some point after maybe the third speech he’s like is this done can we go now but nope there’s more people - Kirishima has a vague idea of it but as far as he knew it should have been only Denki and Hanta and Mina? Maybe? Most of the oragization of the wedding was left in Mina and Kaminari’s hands after all. But since everyone noticed that Bakugou’s already short patience is disappearing fast and  since 1A is made of a bunch of assholes once Mina’s done Jirou’s like, okay my turn, and then it’s Deku, and then it’s Uraraka, and then Todoroki and Tokoyami and Hagakure and Tsuyu and Iida and Momo too why the hell not - Kirishima’s crying and laughing and Bakugou’s 1% touched and 99% ready to blow up, which, honestly, is exactly how a wedding between these two is supposed to end
Anon said:Hello.-wave- I know this isn’t a question but i love your art work and how you made Baku and his red haired boy friend (i forgot his name :( ) just bounce off each other so perfectly. Now I hope those two actually be a couple in the anime. :)
Ahhhhh I doubt they’ll actually become canon haha it’s a Jump shounen after all - but I’m glad you like the way I portray them!!!!! thank you so much!!
I really appreciate your hard work and thank you for sharing it with us. I’m sorry for bothering you and you don’t have to reply. I hope you have a very lovely weekend!! ^^
Anon said:OOF SO ARE THEY BOTH DRAGON SHIFTERS??????
YES THEY ARE!!!!!
Anon said:How do you think Bakugou and Kirishima would react to finding out their kid was getting bullied in school? What would they say to them?
What a heavy question holy shit, I’m actually not sure? I’m not even sure a kid raised by Bakugou and Kirishima would ever let themselves be bullied, really, so the real question here is why is this kid being bullied? Based on what the answer to that is, they’d probably react in different ways. And what they’d tell the kid would change as well, of course. Well, either way they’d probably go raise hell inside the school, both of them
(then again we’re talking about Bakugou (a former bully himself) and Kirishima (a kid that used to physically fight bullies) and their kid, so maybe the actual conversation - in case the kid were ever to actually admit to it, cause Bakugou and Kirishima’s kid might not even ever do that - would probs go something like,kid: “what if there were someone at school I was having problems with?”baku: “kill them” kiri: “Katsuki! you don’t kill them, you talk to them, and if they try to touch you you punch them as hard as you can right on the chin just like we taught you”)
(When the next day they’re called in because their kid has made a classmate bleed Bakugou fist-bumps them and Kirishima put on his hero face and voice and tells the principal that next time if they don’t want their kid to defend themselves they should make it so that they didn’t need to in the first place)
Anon said:I started reading black clover because of that one sketch you did, and i had such a tough time stopping so I can get school work done 😅 in one day I’ve read 122 chapters and I didn’t want to stop
AHHHHH I’M SO HAPPY YOU LIKED IT!!!!!! It’s such a nice manga oh boy ;O;
Anon said:Imagine Bakugou seeing Kirishima being attacked or hurt by a villain. I imagine he would immediately explode and charge in to kill said villain? I’m not sure if you’ve seen it, but I also think of that scene in RWBY Volume 3 with Blake and Yang.
I haven’t watched it, sorry ;-; but yeah! Bakugou protecting Kirishima is something I’m waiting for the actual manga to deliver, so I try not to think too much about it to keep it fresh in case Horikoshi’ll ever be that nice to me haha but anyway we sort of saw how he reacted to Kiri being in mild “danger” during the license exam, so I guess for him to actually lose his mind and explode/get angry Kiri should be in serious danger. Like, post-Rappa fight type of danger, probably.  Ahhhhhhhh boy, I seriously hope Hori will be kind enough to make something like that happen (………not that I want Kiri hurt, tho ;–;)
Anon said:Fran, Fran!!! New dgm chapter on the 16th October!!!!!!!!!!
I KNOW! And I won’t be here for it, can you believe ;~; I’m sad o
Anon said:what are your thoughts on trans kiri??
More or less the same as my thoughts on trans baku! I don’t share the headcanon myself, but there’s a lot of good art and works out there with that headcanon which I enjoyed a lot, and if that’s how you wanna see the character then go for it! Who’s even got the right to stop you hahaha
Anon said:Ooh, u read erasermic fics?? Got any faves??
Seems like I only got two in my bookmarks :O x x (and the second is an hp au haha) (I’m sure I read and loved more tho, I’ll have to come back on this when I have the time)
Anon said:Another thing about Invisible girl and Aizawa using his quirk on her. They used a tail as an example of erasing quirks and the tail was still there but it was like a dead limb. So if he used it on her she may actually be visible. I was thinking about this for awhile and I think it might work that way.
That might be! But then again, that still depends on why she’s invisible - if that’s just the way her skin is made then I don’t think Aizawa’s quirk would change anything? I dunno tho, it’s hard to headcanon about Tooru since we know so little about her!
Anon said:sorry I asked about eri-chan and I agree I really want her to be able to but what about her completely destroying her entire ability?? like not giving people their quirks back but make it so she can’t erase them anymore?? if you get me??
OH YEAH SORRY I TOTALLY MISREAD YOUR ASK OH MY GOD I’m not sure she can do that tho? Like, assuming destroying quirks is her quirk to begin with, I’d assume her body would be built in such a way that she’d be immune to it? It’s just the way I see it, tho :O
BATIM Fanfic: Stray Meets Stray - Chapter 1
Summary: After being attacked by Bendy, Sammy reforms and goes back to the Music Department to pace and think of a new plan. Then, he hears a noise and whimpering. Opening the exit door, he finds a dog with a chain slightly embedded into it’s neck.
Once he takes care of it’s wound, he takes it back to his office to keep it safe and sound. However, no matter how much he enjoys it’s company, he knows the dog isn’t safe there.
That’s when he thinks of his sheep that ran away. Surely he is still alive so… would he be able to keep her if Sammy helped him escape? It was a chance Sammy would have to take. Now it’s just a matter on whether the two can find him again…
Warnings: None. this is pure fluff between Sammy and a dog.
Rated: Ehhh it’s G but also T because swearing that is bound to come but it won’t be a lot.
Here’s a quick drawing of the dog in the fic: http://regularpsycho13.tumblr.com/post/169560743402/very-quick-drawing-of-something-used-the-same
This is gonna be a comic btw. First page may or may not be posted.
Note: Well, this was the result of a picture involving Sammy and the anthro version of my fursona. This then resulted in a possible comic. The cover of which has a really rough sketch at the moment. Needless to say, I kept getting sidetracked last night with multiple things started. One of which is finished. That’s this.
Enjoy!
Sammy huffed as the last parts of him reformed. Bendy had attacked him instead of his sheep, who had gotten away apparently. He was confused. What did he do wrong? Why did his Lord attack him?
Once he knew he was as stable as he could be, Sammy got to his feet, put his mask on, and went through the other door in the Sacrifice room, up through the infirmary, before being back to the Music Department.
Should he try again? Maybe his Lord didn’t want that sheep… for some reason he wasn’t sure why. However, he’s not going to be able to find another sacrifice for a while.
“What to do….what to do…” He muttered as he walked around the lobby of the music department.
It hurt to be attacked by his savior. The feeling of pain and melting from his claws hurt more than…. than… gee. What did it hurt more than? Sammy didn’t remember much about his old life anymore. Only thing he could think of was when he was killed. That alone was painful.
And what Bendy did tonight was just as or even more painful than when he was killed by that… no. He didn’t deserve to have his named mentioned. Not even in his subconscious.
“I guess I could go look for Butcher Gang members down below. Try and sacrifice them… but then there was that angel that was angry at me. Not sure why though.” Sammy mumbled possible ideas to himself. “Or maybe that sheep didn’t get himself killed just yet…”
As he paced around the lobby, muttering to himself, he tried to think of a way to make his Lord happy again so he could set him and the others free. But… it seemed like he was a little…too happy about killing him. Or attempting to anyway.
Perhaps he has been following a false God all along. Maybe he wasn’t going to set him free and just attack him all over again. Next time Sammy may not get as lucky as he was tonight. The puddles was the last place he wanted to go back to.
“Why can’t I be free!?” He shouted. “What did I do to deserve-” Whimper.
Sammy stopped pacing at the odd yet somehow familiar noise. Listening carefully, he soon heard another whine and a scratching noise.
Looking at the exit door, he tilted his head. Was the noise coming from there? It had to be. He never heard a Searcher make such realistic whining sounds. Cries maybe, but not whimpers.
For a moment, the noises stopped. Sammy wondered if he lost more sanity after being attacked and was just hearing things. Right when he was about to walk away from the door, the scratching came back with a even louder whimper. Someone was on the other side of the door, and they wanted inside. Badly.
“Foolish creature.” Sammy said. “It’s stupid for wanting to come in… wait.”
There was something he remembered. Through this door was a hallway and some more doors. One had a staircase going down as well as up to the main floor along with a few floors above it. Another door had a staircase that led you to a emergency exit. And other rooms for animators or the band to store their instruments.
…How did a dog, that’s what he’s assuming it was, get inside the building? It would’ve had to go through a door somehow. Or maybe a window that was by the emergency exit. Nevertheless, it shouldn’t be there.
The whining continued and Sammy just so happened to glance down and saw the stairs were flooded…again. Assuming the door wouldn’t open due to the ink, he went and pulled the pump real quick.
As he did, the dog became startled when it heard the sudden noise. Sniffing the floor, the scent that it smelt had walked away. Whimpering again, the dog laid down on the floor.
Poor thing was freezing. No one in the studio, but Henry, knew that it was Fall now. The weather, while still pleasant, was getting cold. Especially now that it was nighttime.
It trembled and curled up, trying to keep warm.
Suddenly the floorboards creaked loudly, jolting the dog from it’s own thoughts about what to do. Listening, it heard footsteps coming down what seemed to be stairs. Sniffing again, it realized that the sent came back!
The door opened with a loud creak and the dog sat up excitedly, hoping this human was a good human and not a bad one. Not like it’s owner that it had ran away from.
It’s old owner had kept it on a chain outside day in and day out. It was a heavy chain on it’s smaller body. The lack of a dog house didn’t help the situation. What did help was the blanket and water bowl. Fortunately, It wasn’t used for breeding due to being fixed at some point.
The man did starve the dog though, to the point that it’s ribs were showing slightly. But being alone made it….well, lonely. At some point the man took the chain off and told the dog to scram. Not losing this chance, the dog obeyed and ran as far as it’s legs could take it.
After many weeks of being a collard stray, the dog came across a older building. Sniffing the ground, there was a lot of scents in there. Maybe one was a good human? There was so many… one had to be good. Just one.
It took a while, but the dog found a opening through a window and squeezed it’s body through. Finally feeling better since it was out of the cold and cruel night.
However, it was still shivering as it wandered through the halls and stairs, going to the closest scent that it caught. But then there was a door keeping the one from getting to the other.
Getting up on it’s hind legs, it started scratching and whimpering at the door. That scent was close. SO close! It just had to get the other’s attention. It could hear what sounded like a man talking on the other side.
Eventually the man left and that’s when the dog laid down. Right before getting startled back onto it’s paws as it heard a loud noise before the floors and door creaked as it opened up.
In the light, the dog saw the ma- wait. That wasn’t a man…
Whimpering again, the dog cowered and backed up until it was against the wall across from the new creature it never saw before.
It had never seen a person looking so black and….wet, maybe? It’s face was also strange though the dog recognized the clothing. It’s old owner wore something similar.
Sammy pulled his mask to the side of his head so he could get a good look at the fearful dog.
The dog was smaller, maybe 40-50 pounds. He could see it was grayish with some darker gray on it’s back, ears, muzzle and back paws. It had stunning blue eyes. And it had some white on it’s chest, stomach, front paws, and tail.
Overall, it was a mutt with it’s one pointed yet still a little floppy ear and it’s completely flopped over ear.  He didn‘t have a clue as to what mix it was.
Then there was the collars that the dog was wearing. One seemed to be a basic black leather collar and a chain choker above it. Both wrapped tightly around the little one’s neck.
“Poor thing.” Sammy slowly bent down to it’s level. “Will you let me take those nasty things off you?”
In response, the dog whined and curled up tighter. As Sammy crawled over to it, knowing that a cornered dog could attack easily even though it really wouldn’t matter in this case, he continued to speak softly. Even singing a lullaby-type song.
He noticed the dog seemed to of liked his singing when it’s tail began to wag slightly. It even rolled over a little so that it was on it’s side.
“I suppose I should check your gender, hm?” Sammy said, now kneeling beside it. Glancing down, he could tell from how it was laying that the dog with him was a female. “Ah. You’re a girl. Heh. I used to have a dog as a kid. Sister and I loved her till she died. Her name was Lucy.”
Lucy Lulu… been a long time since he thought about that dog. Hell, he was surprised he even remembered he had a sister or the dog’s name!
“Lulu.” The dog gave an alert look. “Do you like that? Lulu?”
She barked in response. The dog did like that name. She wasn’t sure if she even had one anyway. So it was nice having one now.
Gently, Sammy took the chain and the collar off of the dog and rubbed the parts where the chain started to embed into the soft neck.
“Must be painful, hm?” Sammy hummed, noting the ribs that he could see.
Fortunately, the neck didn’t seem too badly damaged. He might have some bandages in the infirmary that he could use for it.
“Come.” Sammy patted his knee as he got up and walked through the door.
While hesitant, she did follow and Sammy shut the door again once she was on the stairs, waiting for him to follow.
Since the dog seemed to be small enough to be picked up, he wanted to carry her down to the infirmary but didn’t want to cover her in even more ink than he already did.
“Follow me, Lulu.” He patted his knee again and she obeyed by following him down the hall and then down some stairs.
Once in the infirmary, Sammy got some bandages and a towel. He also found what might be some medicine for an infected wound. Sitting the on the floor, he picked Lulu up so she was in his lap.
Then he got the towel wet with the medicine and wiped it along her neck. She cried out, possibly from pain, but he kept singing to her the same song from before since it calmed her down moments ago.
Once her wound was clean, he wrapped her neck with the bandages.
“There. That should be better.” Sammy said, finishing up.
Lulu had stopped crying once he put the towel down and bandaged her neck. She was feeling a lot better now. But she was still hungry.
They sat there for a while. Lulu in Sammy’s lap as he pet her ear, being careful not to get ink into it. It was relaxing and got his mind off of things. That’s when he remembered that it was pretty common knowledge that petting dogs or other pets were good stress relievers for both the human and the canine or other animal.
But he was not a human anymore. He could tell the dog was petrified when she first saw him. But now she didn’t seem to mind. If anything, she liked his hideous prison of a body.
“Then again… I’m probably the first person to treat you decently in a long time, huh girl?” Sammy said, not being so insane that he thought dogs could talk. He wasn’t that far gone just yet.
In response, the dog rolled over to her back with her belly up.
“Ah. You want belly rubs, Lulu?” The dog’s ears perked up and she wiggled in his lap. Sammy chuckled. “Alright.” He began to rub her belly.
This was the kind of company that Sammy didn’t mind having. But he knew he couldn’t keep her here. He had no way of taking care of her.
Plus, it was clearly cold out. Maybe Fall or Winter since the dog was cold when he first touched her but has since warmed up. So he couldn’t kick the dog outside and hope for the best. She found a way in one time and could probably do it again anyway.
Luckily, she wasn’t very old. Maybe 2-3 years.
But that made him want to help her even more. She was young and clearly full of life despite her rough beginning. He didn’t want to watch her die or kick her out and hope she made it to a safe place.
“Sheep sheep…. Sheep.” Sammy stopped what he was about to sing and stopped rubbing her belly too. “…That’s it.”
It’ll be dangerous but…. That was it.
That Sheep from tonight, he had to be alive still. If Sammy found him and convinced him that he wasn’t going to sacrifice him anymore, maybe he’ll trust him enough to let Sammy lead him to a exit. All he wants in return is for the dog to have a good home.
Right now, he didn’t even want to be set free. He just wanted the dog safe and sound. I mean, who could say ‘no’ to such a cute face?
He still didn’t recognize the sheep but he feels like he knew him. Chances are that he’s a good guy so maybe he’ll keep her.
“It’s gonna be a scary journey throughout the studio but we got to find him. He’s still here…somewhere…” Sammy said, noticing the dog was back to laying on her stomach.
Lulu wasn’t sure what the strange man meant but she hoped they could rest for a little bit. And get some food. Did he even need to eat or sleep? She wondered.
“Hmmm.” Sammy hummed. “I think all we have is bacon soup but… it’s better than nothing. Hopefully you won’t get sick off of it.”
Before doing anything, he had to get something in the dog. Hell knows how long she has gone without food already.
“Come on.” Sammy set her down and stood up.
She quickly followed him up the stairs and over to his office. Opening the door, he gently pushed her in and shut the door to keep her safe. Luckily the searchers didn’t dare go in there.
Lulu whined in a confused way but figured he would be back. The room was warm and much better than the cold outside.
So she went and laid down by the desk, waiting for the man to return.
Several minutes later, he opened the door with two bowls. After kicking the door shut with his foot, he walked over to her and set them down. Looking inside, she saw water and food.
“It should be cooled down now.” Sammy said, sitting with his legs crossed and watched her begin to eat.
He was just really hoping it wouldn’t make her sick. He checked the ingredients on the back and from what he could tell, they were all safe for a dog to consume. He was also happy that he knew of a room with running water that didn’t have ink mixed in.
As he watched Lulu eat, he began to think of a plan. The sheep, if still here, had probably gone down below. Which means he’ll have to find him and possibly run into the angel in the process.
Sammy didn’t want to leave the dog here, so she’ll have to go with him. He just hoped she’ll stay by his side.
Then there was his Lord. He was still around. If he tried to kill him without a second though then… Sammy didn’t want to think about him killing a innocent dog for no reason.
The water bowl moving slightly brought him out of his thoughts. Looking in both, he saw they were empty and the dog sitting happily across from him, tail wagging behind her.
“Well, I suppose we have no time to lose. Let’s go find that sheep.”
In response, the dog laid down and yawned.
“…Or.” Sammy changed his mind. “We can rest for a while.”
Watching the dog curl up, he began to sing a lullaby. Soon, she was asleep.
Chapter one
Posting it here till I can buy a new laptop. Then it's off to AO3! Any mistakes are mine and my phones! Notes: I'll integrate Gil in more later. And yes I did still the name of my OC from tinker bell💁 Anyway enjoy!! The morning air nearly suffocates Uma as she throws open the doors to her mother's restaurant the smell of rotten fish mixed with high tide, strangely comforting as it floods her nostril. Turning the sign of the daily special menu she looks up to see what she could of the sun as It fought the grey clouds. The ever present chill causes Uma to tighten her coat as she heads back inside. Sighing, she grabs a broom and begins to sweep the dining room. Her mother Ursula was hard at work in the Kitchen finishing her prep for the lunch rush. As one of the few restaurants on the isle they made a sizable sum not to say they were rich but Uma didn’t sleep on the floor or have to steal...constantly. “Edna!!” Ursula shouts from the kitchen. She got it wrong...surprise, surprise. Tossing the broom to the wall Uma walks into the kitchen. To see her mother standing over a boiling pot her white hair sticking out in all directions, Her makeup perfected. Glancing at her wheelchair she wonders if she would come out this time. “Come here, girl!” She urges. Walking over Uma sees the boiling grey mass in the pot. “I need you to taste this-don't make that face brat. It tastes fine!” As Uma opens her mouth to voice her opinion Ursula shoves the spoons in. The grey goop seems to stick to her mouth the texture reminding her of oatmeal while the taste...fish sticks? Her stomachs rolls as she struggles to swallow the mush. “Hmm, needs more ‘insert magic item here’, that's enough Judy.” She mumbles turning back to the pot. Grabbing a cup Uma rushes to the sink frantically filling the glass and chugs it contents down leaning against the sink gasping for air she stares at her mother. Unconcerned, as she gasps for air, adding more spices to her dish. Huffing she stands straightening her coat she informs, “I opened the shop...the others should be here soon…” Silence her only answer as the thump of the spoons echos in the room. With a groan she shouts, “Mother!” “Yes...yes I heard you, Harriet.” Stirring the pot she waves her off. “I'll be there once this is done.” “Fine…” Uma walks back into the dining room. Surprised to see Gil sitting at one of the furthest table from the entrance his notebook out as usually. Walking closer she sees some of the other servers setting up for the rush. Nodding in silent greetings she can't help but chuckle as she takes in Gils elaborate drawings. For someone who can't read he's pretty good. He gets so sucked into them that he forgets to keep his wits about him. Not a smart idea on the isles. Slamming her hand on the table she cackles as Gil jumps into the air. His hands coming up to protect his head. “Hahaha, poor Gilly why are you hiding out in my lovely little restaurant?” She giggles as he tries to right himself. “My dad's on a rampage,” He explains as he tucks his book away. “Took the triplets on a hunting trip. Made him think I was riding with the supplies,” He leans back balancing on the back legs with a smirk. “When he got back and saw me and mom working on your outfit...well, he flipped. Slipped out the window while he was ranting.” “Hmm...where's it at?” Uma asks offhandedly taking a seat across from him watching as her words take root. “Where's what?” He asks tilting his head like a dog. She should have known better then to use pronouns on him. “My outfit. Gil.” Uma rolls her eyes as he nearly falls over. “Oh right...My mom's working on the last of it. Don't worry I'll drop it off by tonight.” “You'd better. I didn't hide you from your pops for a whole week for nothing.” As she finishes her threat the rumble of the lunch crowd grows closer. Rising from the table Uma heads to the hostess stand looking over her shoulder she gives him a wink. Cackling as Gil face turns a bright shade of pink. “Harrys’ gonna want something, too.” She tosses over shoulder as she wraps the acorn around her waist. “You know how he gets.” “Yeah!? I had a idea for a great hat/coat combo-” His notebook out again as he frantically searches for his sketches. As the thumping grows louder her stomach twists with anxiety. “Great. Gil. That sounds great.” Patting his chest her focus on the door and the whine growing in her ears. “I'll see you later.” She offers with a tight smile. She was gonna have to deal with this crowd on her own...in her own way...a chill of excitement rises as she realizes that she had the opportunity to showcase her worth. To show her mother that she was worth more than a spare scurry maid. As she opens her mouth to greet her partons a gust of sea salt tinged air comes from the kitchen. Silently she turns to see her mother approaching in her chair. A large almost maniacal smile on her face. “So sorry it took so long gentlemen but you know how brats are.” Snapping her mouth shut Uma watches as her mother enthusiastically greets the crowd. “Dear, why don't you take them to their seats.” She offers over her shoulder. Rolling her eyes Uma pulls out two stained menus, “Two seats for two lonely idiots.” They growled at her greeting. “Right this way.” So went her day she watched as her mother all but floated her way through the crowd cackling and entertaining. Offering spells to lessing their dreary days. While she seated and worked tables giving slide commentary as she went. Till finally the rush ended the last customer left and Uma could finally sit. Her back to the door she doesn't see the slinking form slide into the room. As she stares at the dully colored screen the images flashing, the sound of metal scraping along the table reaches her ears. Rolling her eyes she turns to see him slowly approaching his shirt ripped to shreds. A large grin on his face as he slides up to her. She can feel his body heat travel up her side so close to his chest she can almost hear his heartbeat. The heat of his stare causes a shiver to go down her spine. Even after all this time she can't help but feel a thrill at his attention. She can't help but want more. “What happened to you?” She asks picking up a cleanish rag. looking up into his wild eyes she begins to wipes his face careful of the small cuts. “I've got something to show you.” He singsongs his voice quivering with barely concealed laughter. His eyes sparkling with excitement as Uma stares she can't help but be infected. “Oh really?” She asks leaning against the table. “Dear old bore-adon has made a royal decree...about us.” Pulling out a wrinkled scroll she sees the seal of Auradon as she scans it the words jumps out ‘select few children of the isles ’ and ‘a semester off the isle’. She jumped out of her seat looking down at the decree in her hands. This was it a way out! A way to prove her worth! Looking at Harry his eyes glued to her face a look of wonder in his eyes. “Do you know what this means!?” She shrieks her heart in her ears. “This could be are way off the isle and once we're in Auradon...we can bring down the barrier.” Her hands shaking as she reads it again, Afraid that she was dreaming. A hand touched her face jerking her out of her musings. Harry looked down at her with a kind of reverence that shook her to the core. “If anyone can free us it's you,Uma.” He whispers his accent thick as he drags his fingers through her braids. Heat rises in her gut as he draws closer. Stopping mere inches from hers. “I know...I will.” She agrees her voice tight in her throat as the moment stretched on. His heat causing her heart to beat faster, Her hands begin to sweat as she focuses on his aqua blue eyes. Slowly she watches as he licks his lips. The scent of the sea mingles with the scent of sandalwood, making her mouth water. Just as the moment seemed to reach its climax as she leans into him. “Bernadette come and wash these dishes!” Ursula shouts from her tank her voice bouncing in the small ship. The moment shatters. Grinding her teeth Uma looks away slamming her hands on the table. Harry groans raking his hand through his hair flopping onto a stool. Their arms touching a reminder of what could have been. With a sigh she looks again at the scrap in her hand memorizing the date. All she has to do is wait...they would pick her. She was the most deserving of any on the isle. It only makes sense! Four months later Four months. Four hellish months. Since Mal and the others failed and betrayed them turned their back on the isles. Left them to waste away! Forgotten in the Glamour of their new lives! Looking to the dimly lit screen she sees Mal smile, her punk purple tresses now bubble gum blonde. Her ever present jacket replaced with a trendy princess perfect pastel dress glittering as she stands beside the somewhat handsome king. Living her perfect little life...That traitorous Witch! Grabbing a the nearest dish she flings it at the screen with a roar. It slams into the wall crashing into a thousand pieces. The room falling silent as she stalks into kitchen. She had no right to steal this from her! She had only had one job steal the wand lower the barrier and finally set them free. Instead she allows a weakness to sway her heart. The memory of watching her tearfully hand the wand to fairy Godmother and hug the others causes her forcefully clean the countertop. Suddenly a large tentacle comes out of the back room knocking her with a grunt flat on her back. “Break another one of my dishes, Sue! See how fast I get out of this tank!” Her threat falling on deaf ears as Uma is struck with a revelation staring at the filthy roof. If she wants off this cursed isle it would have to be though her own will and power. And if she didn’t have it she would take it. Getting up Uma walks back out to the dining room to wipe down tables. Ignoring the snide comments from some unsavory patrons she clears her crew's table. She needs a plan, a way in. The doors give way to Gil with a girl she's sure she's never seen before but something about her was familiar. “Hey, Uma! Idrissa was telling me about this great recipe for sea eel and kelp chips!! You've got to let her make it!” Gil exclaims his eagerness irritating her as she tries to place her face. “No one goes in my mother's kitchen and do I know you?” eyeing them both as they walked closer. Idrissa as Gil calls her wears an outfit of silver and red, chains hang from her waist with metal roses of different sizes dotted along. Her silver hair in large twists lay on her shoulders a sharp contrast to her dark skin. Why didn't she recognize her? “Uhh, Uma! It's Iridessa one of the best chefs on the isle and one of the best fighters in our crew. Duh! Did you hit your head or-oh, fish sticks!” He exclaims running to snag some off someone's plates causing a small scuffle. Leaving Uma and Iridessa alone. Crossing her arms she stares her down, not a small feat considering her size. She felt like she should know her but something wasn't adding up. Suddenly, Idrissa smiles widely as she takes a seat in front of Uma. “I should have known you wouldn't be swayed by a simple glamour spell.” She says pulling out a small pouch sitting it on the table. “No, you're much too smart for that.” “Glamour spell? You think I'm going fall for that. Everyone knows magic doesn't work in the barrier...especially now that they've strengthened it.” Uma scoffs taking a seat across form her. Noticing her crews slowly trickling in waving or nodding in her direction not reacting in any negative way towards Iridessa. “True...Magic with the intent to harm has been damped to nearly nothing but...magic with the intent to save or even uplift...now that is still viable.” She whispers leaning closer her eyes intense as her hands massage the bag. “Right...So what is your ‘glamour spell’ doing saving me from a boring evening?” Uma can't help but smirk at her wit. Whatever she was might be useful to her...maybe even able to crack the barrier. Maybe even little in a bit of magic and maybe- “My spell got me close to you.” She retorts. Flipping her hair over her shoulder. “Giving me the chance to offer you a way off this island.” Uma froze there's no way she heard her right. A way out? Was she hallucinating this whole thing? Maybe she did hit her head too hard? “My mother helped in the creation this barrier, she worked to protect the ideals of Auradon. She thought that she was helping set up a way to properly rehabilitate your parents but they lied to her.” Maybe she wasn't the only one who bumped her head. “If you let me help you Uma...I can right the wrong done to you and my mother.” A chance to get off this island...a way to finally prove her worth…and all she had to do was trust someone else to make the right choice...again. “What do you get out of this?” Uma asks tilting her head. It doesn't make sense that someone would wash up on shore and just happen to have a way out. She maybe a Villain and desperate for a way out but she wasn't stupid. “A chance to fix the balance,” She whispers her voice near a growl as her eyes lower focusing on the bag. “A chance to make them pay.” There it was. Anger. That she knew...that she understood. With a smirk she leans back, “I'll accept your offer...if we follow my lead. No ifs. no buts-” “No coconuts.” She interjects rising her eyes to Uma the purple glittering with amusement in the firelight. “Of course, Captain. I am your humble consult on all things Auradon.” “Right...Let's keep it that way.” With a raised brow Uma extended her hand. As Iridessa took her hand a vision appears in her mind. Mal holding out fairy Godmother's wand, the king hanging from Harry's hook. With a gasp she took her hand back. Iridessa look down in shock at her hand a smile slowly forming. “It seems….I made the right choice.” She whispers her smile wide. Taking a step back Uma feels something that only her mother had made her feel....fear. Trying her best to hide her feels she turns away clutching her fists at her side. “Don't do that again!” She tosses over her shoulder walking towards the kitchen.eager to put some space between her and the strange woman. “Hahaha that wasn't me, Dear Captain, that was all you.” She laughs causing a chill to go down her spine hurrying into the kitchen she slams the door shut running to her room. As she lands on her bed a foreign heat begins to build in her chest the warmth spreading through her top. Almost searing. Tearing off her jacket she looks down to see her necklace glowing the heat coming in waves. A thought comes to mind her mother's words playing on a loop. ‘When I had my powers that shell would glow like a white hot ember and no inch of the sea wouldn't sway under my call.’ With a gasp she takes holds of it. Focusing on the feeling of the metal and warmth in her palm she stretches out her other hand as she seen her mother do a thousand times. The sound of the waves and smell of the sea helping her focus. Slowly but surely the ocean outside rose to her window. Her blood seeming to burn her very skin as she took a breath. This is what her mother could once do! No wonder she clings to the sea, to the remnants of her past. The power was mlrr then intoxicating it was life changing. With a cackle she let's it fall listening to the gasps and yelps outside. The warmth begins to fade as she lays on the bed leaving her with a chill and headache. Iridessa must have done this! Giving her a taste of the magic inside her to make her weak! To sway her to whatever she decides! ‘That was all you,Dear Captain.’ Her parting shot echoing in her head. She had magic in her blood nothing like her mother's but...it was enough. Her door swings open as Harry breezes in. Eyes sweeping over the room before landing on her a wide smile spreading as he walks over Kneeling at her feet. “Uma,I heard the new girl caused some trouble.” His voice low as he takes her hand. She rolls her eyes of course he realized she wasn't part of their crew. “Want me to take care of her?” He offers flashing his hook was an even wider grin. “No.” She mumbles taking a pillow to stuff under her head. “She's proving to be very useful. I need you to watch the floor...I need a nap.” “Are you sure I can't join you?” He asks slowly standing to hang his body over her’s. His hook trailing down her side. “It's been said I'm a great cuddler.” “I'm sure it has…”Uma whispers looking directly in his eyes trailing her hand up his chest grasping his lapel, “but someone has to watch the floor. As first mate that duty falls on you.” Groaning he lays his forehead to her collar taking a breath of her scent. Rolling her eyes she pushes him lifting her brow as he snaps to attention saluting her with a “Aye, Aye,Captain.” Giggling under her breath she watches him slink out. She had at max one hour before mayhem broke below and her mother snaps. Clutching her pillow she wills her headache to fade as she closes her eyes. When she wakes up next it would be to setting into motion a plan to free her crew and the entire Isles from this prison and making sure the entire world feared the name Uma
