For a more specific fandom history, Anon, I'd direct you to the cult of personality that was the Bleachness comm at LiveJournal. The owner of that comm made a pretense that Ishihime was her main ship and that she wasn't much of an Ichiruki fan, but the types of Orihime-bashing essays she'd let get published under that Bleachness flag sure did foster much of the fandom shit that's continued to this day after she herself has left the fandom (amidst some general horrific post-686 trolling, most notably people laughing at her rape,which....no. Nothing that user said or did over a fictional ship ever warrented that. And fuck anyone who was a part of it).

With all that being said, the problem with the later half of Bleach is Kubo Tite spread his eggs into way too many baskets and certain things were lost in the shuffle. I'll say it right now: we didn't need to learn the backstory of every single Gotei 13 member. Arguably, we need not have seen at least 75 percent of them ever again after SS and I question the decision to keep every single character after their story concluded.

Unfortunately I think Orihime was one of the ones who suffered the worst from this. I was so stoked that we got that one scene of Ichigo having her watch his back, but if Kubo intended them to be endgame, he skipped so many beats IMO. Look at how that got developed versus, say, to use a similar dynamic pairing, Winry and Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist--that was a pairing that wasn't expressly obvious from the beginning (Hell, I didn't even like Winry to begin with because I thought she was just another Tsundere!) but over time the author takes care to develop Winry's character and growth as a person and alongside Ed.

To be kind, and independent of the ship wank, that didn't happen. They should've had a discussion about Ichigo's Hollowing in HM. They could've had more friendship/bonding moments to show to Orihime that she means as much to him as Rukia and the rest of the team does. She did grow considerably, but I'm so disappointed that we barely ever saw her use her powers to truly save the day (although to a lesser extent, I sorta had this issue with Rukia too...she'd get beaten within a inch of her life and Byakuya would be conveniently nearby to save her, but that's another post).

I wanted to be sold on the pairing on it's own merits and not just to see the IR fandom get Klanced by their own hubris (which was funny as all get up, NGL). But for me at least, there was so much more to be done and Kubo failed on that. But there's disappointment, and there's....whatever the fuck *that* shit is from IR stans, whose two years and counting bellyaching has run out those of us who actually...you know...want to enjoy what we fucking got. I wish I knew more IR fans who don't feel like raining salt over fucking everything, but they all stay underground or just left. I have one such mutural who we'd follow each other nearly a year before we knew we were IR fans but never spoke of it because the rest of fandom wanted to keep on pissing away and...yeah, no.

I feel like history is going to repeat itself for Voltron Klance fans in the next few months too, but...yeah, another post entirely for that mess.

Why do so many ichiruki fans hate and bash Orihime but you'll hardly see ichihime fans hate and bash Rukia? ........I'm fairly new to the Bleach shipping fandom so I'm asking this question to several ichihime blogs (ichiruki blogs are mostly too hostile) and I'm very curious to see ya'lls answer! ^_^

I agree! I think it’s because Orihime is such an easy target (cause she’s really nice and supportive of the main protagonist lmao so everyone is able to pick on her as being the “annoying cliche useless anime girl” which isn’t true at all!) People need to move past that argument and appreciate her character. She’s grown stronger since the very second chapter and built up the courage to be who she is throughout the entire series. People fail to recognize her character growth because of how close minded they are! It’s sad at this point. I wish people would stop bashing her. Also welcome to the fandom!!! 💖💖💖
