[32] President Bush created the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives by executive order on January 29, 2001, just nine days after his inauguration. Congress has not passed legislation allowing for faith-based initiatives, so President Bush has repeatedly used executive orders to push the policy through. In February 2006, President Bush signed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, reauthorizing welfare reform for another five years and extending the “charitable choice” policy, which allows faith-based groups to continue receiving funding “without altering their religious identities or changing their hiring practices.” See “Fact Sheet: Compassion in Action: Producing Real Results for Americans Most in Need,” Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, www.white house.gov/news/releases/2006/03/print/20060309-3.html.

flood and rainbow for the weather ask game?
💦 Flood - How many WIPs do you have?
SEVERAL. Hangon. Let me--
nine seems to be the current count.
Fiction: Safe in the Dark (my baby, beloved, eternal, the vampire story i started in 2011), Vee the Vampire/Damask, 2005 (my newest baby, religious horror, more vampires), in the dirt in the dark (second person experiment, ALSO vampires), That Witch Lives and Breathes (sci-fi-fantasy space opera big huge worldbuilding project i'll probably be chipping away at for a decade), Cauldron Born (YA coming of age story about a group of young witches in a small religious VT town)
Fan-fiction: Forever Onward, Scion (my 60k ongoing wizard101 fanfiction about the young wizard and all the trauma inflicted by the plot of this childrens game from 2008), Time Marches On (Kairi-centric kingdom hearts fic set post KH3 following Kairi's training under Aqua and the coincidental saving of Vanitas), Through Another Lens (Lost Boys fic asking the question: what happens if Michael gives in and feeds during the beach party?)
Non-fiction: Looking Glass Liar (a collection of personal stories and poetry about the masks I built to protect myself from the world as a young queer witch)
🌈 Rainbow - What do you think makes your story unique / stand out?
Excellent question, no idea. I've been told my way of writing is very good at putting the readers firmly in the characters head without much effort/very quickly.
As far as standing out you could make a case that they often stick out by virtue of usually containing not a single straight+cis person.
I'd like to think they're unique for the view on hope that I weave throughout most of them. That despite all the darkness they contain there is always hope, and at least some joy, in the end.
thank you!!!

Oh rip didn’t mean to sound like I was gaysplaining, I meant it more in a commiserating “if not gay Cas then why” way lol. Also they gave us Rufus so I guess they can have their b&b jokes
DID THEY GIVE US RUFUS? he. was way up in canaan?! i’m a southern vt hoe, so i felt cheated and robbed that he lived way the fuck up in the kingdom (even though i did in my heart map out the drive he would’ve had to take from where he was at in - i wanna say he was in pennsylvania but don’t quote me on that - and how he would have to get on at exit 6 of 91 and i love the drive up north and thought of how baby and dean would’ve eaten up those miles to canaan)
but also no! sorry i was teasing. your message made me laugh sincerely because after whining about that trope on here and privately i did actually read an entire fucking dean/cas running a vermont b&b fanfic and got deeply emotional because it was set in jericho and the thought of dean like 30mins away from al’s frys and church street made me feel very soft.
#anyways tl;dr pspspsp come back vermont anon and chat more i am always down to clown about VT#anon#replies#messages#vtspn

15 years ago: Newport State Airport - Coventry, VT - 2004
Phish • August 14, 2004 • Newport State Airport • Coventry, VT
Set 1: Walls of the Cave > Runaway Jim -> Gotta Jibboo, You Enjoy Myself > Sample in a Jar > Axilla > Poor Heart > Run Like an Antelope[1], Fire
Set 2: AC/DC Bag -> 46 Days > Halley's Comet -> Ya Mar, David Bowie, Character Zero
Set 3: Twist -> The Wedge, Stash > Free, Guyute, Drowned > Friday
Encore: Harry Hood[2]
[1] Tom Marshall on vocals. [2] With Trey banter. At the end of Hood, the band stopped playing allowing the audience to sing the "You can feel good, good, good about Hood" refrain.
This was the first show of the Coventry festival and was simulcast in movie theaters nationwide. During YEM, the band gave away their trampolines. Throughout the duration of the set, groups of fans held the trampolines above their heads, and some fans jumped on the trampolines as well. Tom Marshall sang the lyrics to Antelope. Trey teased Waves in Halley's Comet. Before Bowie, Trey told a story of the summer he spent living in a cabin in the Northeast Kingdom where he remembered writing several songs, including Bowie. Trey explained that Bowie was an attempt to see “how far can you push it in the harmonic and rhythmic language and still have people dancing.” During Hood, Trey (speaking in rhythm) noted that because there were a row of rocks separating the band from the crowd, they were feeling a certain level of disconnect (particularly when Mike plays a "sexy" note). To remedy the situation, Trey and Mike ventured down onto the rocks for the duration of the song. At the end of Hood, the band stopped playing, allowing the audience to sing the “You can feel good, good, good about Hood” refrain.

Bad, Bad Day, and Children: Total LOVEBUG alert! Super social relaxed, friendly, & affectionate girl! STELLAR Safer Scores All Coveted l's across the board! I'maVER Sweet Giru d 30382 3 Yrs. Old, 49 los oP LOVE Waiting Por YOU, Brooklyn Acc TO BE KILLED – 6/21/2018 Dillon was supposedly found as a stray, but when a family found her, Dillon thought she had finally found her forever home. She was so happy, but that is not hard for this amazing little girl who is nothing but wiggly, social, friendly, relaxed, affectionate and super sweet. She is so easy going, soft, gentle, and kind with a big smile on her face and her tail always wagging in welcome. She really is a TOTAL LOVEBUG! So we can only fault the family who took her in for being so ignorant of dogs, dog behavior, dog management, and the simplest thing of all – your dog thinks their yard is their kingdom. Dillon had one bad day, and as a result, she is unfairly facing her death. You wouldn’t mind, but she was enjoying a bath with her family at the time of the mishap. What we do know about this stunning, sweetheart is that she simply knocked her shelter assessment out of the park, getting all Coveted 1’s across the board. She is a shelter staff favorite. And what we also know is that this beauty with her big generous heart does not belong in the shelter, and she doesn’t deserve to die. What Dillon needs is a family with a clue – an experienced foster or who will provide her with a structured home, a fenced yard, and walk her on a leash when bringing her on walks. This is simple stuff. This is a no brainer. She is a no brainer. You simply must PRIVATE MESSAGE our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance right now fostering or adopting this darling girl. DILLON, ID # 30382, @ 3 Yrs. Old, 49.4 lbs. Brooklyn ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Tan, Unaltered Female I came to the shelter as a: Stray, 6/5/2018 Shelter Assessment Rating: New Hope Rescue Only Intake Behavior Rating: 2. Blue AT RISK MEMO: Dillon was placed at risk due to behavior concerns; Due to the bite history in addition to lack of known history, we believe Dillon would be best if placed with a rescue partner. there have not been any incidents with humans or other dogs in the care center. No medical concerns at this time with Dillon. MEANS OF SURRENDER: Stray, no known history. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: In the care center: Dillon has been friendly, and sociable to all staff. She is relaxed, affectionate, and displays no concerning behavior. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT, 6/13/2018 Look:: 1. Dog's eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog's mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft. Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Paw squeeze 2:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Toy:: 1. No interest. Assessment Summary:: Dillon was relaxed during her handling assessment. She was soft, and gentle following the assessor on the leash, but was not interested in the toy. PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Dillon was brought in as a stray after having an altercation with another dog, which resulted in a few puncture wounds. Bite history:: On 6/5/18 While receiving a bath in the front yard of the home, Dillon noticed a passerby walking her husky a few feet away. Dillon broke free escaping the yard, and running over biting the woman and her dog. No further details. 6/13: Due to Dillon's DOH status she is muzzle before an off leash interaction is conducted. When introduce to the female greeter at the gate, Dillon ignores her and focuses her attention on the muzzle. The muzzle is remove, and she is re-introduced to the greeter. Dillon's pants, paces and jumps on the gate but does not acknowledge or makes eye contact with her. Due to her inconsistent behavior, we will reattempt to conduct an off leash interaction tomorrow. DATE OF INITIAL MEDICAL, 6/10/2018. Summary:: Friendly, tolerated all handling ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Dillon so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. Dillon is a young, enthusiastic, social dog, and will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to the bite history in addition to lack of known history, we believe Dillon would be best set up to succeed in an adult only home at this time. Place with a new hope partner: Due to Dillon's bite history, and lack of information surrounding the bite, we believe she would be best set up to succeed with a new hope partner who can further assess her behavior a stable home environment. In the care center Dillon has not displayed concerning behavior, and has readily allowed handling. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Dillon to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Dillon to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Dillon presents with outside of the care centers. There was a noise like the twang of the deepest note of a bass guitar. My breath caught in my throat and my feet stopped involuntarily as the sound reverberated through every cell in my body. My body was poised for my next step, but frozen, my caveman DNA was pricking every sense to its most perceptive. The hair on my arms stood straight up.
Around me were waist-deep ferns hiding the muddy trail. On either side of the clearing were stunted pitch pines growing out of rocky crags. To the left, somewhere miles below me, were the tiny roads and rooftops of Stowe, Vermont. But on this mountaintop traverse I was alone.
Alone with whatever made that sound.
My lungs expanded, filling again. I neither saw nor heard another creature after that noise. Reluctantly, my foot rose off the ground to take another step forward. Was I moving toward or away from the source of that mysterious noise? It continued to reverberate in my chest. I listened to its echo in my ears as I resumed the hike, pushing through the ferns to the next narrow passage between rocks and trees. There was plenty of trampled underbrush and side trails to indicate the presence of large animals. Would moose bother to climb mountains for the succulent ferns in these rocky swales along the ridge? Or was it more likely a bear that was disturbed by my approach, just warning me to stay away?
After a few minutes at a faster pace my heart stopped fluttering and I fell back into my routine of singing or whistling the same three notes over and over. One one rugged micro-climb along a jagged outcropping, the ground was clearly chewed up by animal hooves and feet but the mud wouldn’t disclose anything more specific.
This was actually the most relaxed part of my 10-mile, 7-hour traverse from the east side of Hunger Mountain northward to Worcester Mountain. You see, we’ve sat on the porch of Mike’s cabin and watched the sun set over these mountains for several years. I couldn’t take the suspense anymore, I needed to explore them and find out what’s actually up there. He wasn’t as enthusiastic about my adventure.
Leaving Mike on a logging road outside of the small Vermont village of Shady Rill, near Worcester (VT) was harder. I was a little nervous but had studied the topo maps, was anxiously following my own progress on my phone (using GAIAGPS), and I’d even biked the six miles to our nearby country store the day before to Google my proposed route.
“No problem,” I told Mike. “I get to the top of Hunger Mountain then follow the ridge trail north past Stowe Pinnacle to Worcester Mountain. Even I couldn’t get lost. There are no wrong turns I can take.”
Getting up the east side of Hunger Mountain was harder than the west side hike we’d done about five years earlier. Instead of a trail there’s a sheer rock face. The topo maps didn’t show the iron stairways built into the trail but I was grateful for them. Halfway up I laid down against the rock, took a few pictures of the panorama spread before me and waited for my legs to stop wobbling. It was way too soon for that. I wondered if I’d consumed enough carbs, or water, or what was going on that would make me shaky so early in the hike. No matter, because I wouldn’t be turning back.
After the lovely Instagram-worthy bare rock summit of Hunger Mtn I checked my watch and kept moving, knowing my legs would only get more tired later. The semi-flat hike across the summit was easy and I thought that’s what the rest of the afternoon would be like. That was a dumb assumption to make.
The only other hikers I saw after Hunger were at the Pisgah spur, a superfit couple from Stowe. We chatted about the mud, and I looked at the trail sign for a brief moment, then kept going. That’s when I was sure I screwed up somehow. The trail from there seemed to turn east instead of north and it went down, down, down. I stopped and looked around, certain I’d followed a drainage trough rather than the trail. There were no blazes to be found. But a little further along the trail there was a ladder, so it really was a trail — but was it the right trail? I was in a col, shady and damp. Would I get dumped out somewhere near the village where I started? I looked at my GPS tracker a dozen times but wouldn’t be sure as there was no clear trail on the map. Should I turn back? I started second-guessing myself. Did I miss a turn-off? The maps I saw online didn’t show a spur going north-east, so by default this had to be the right trail, correct? Aggravation.
I plodded on, continuing to follow the trail I was unsure of, and even fell once on wet rocks. A good 40 minutes (nearly a mile) later, it lead me back to the ridge traverse, headed north.
[Yes, the picture above is actually a part of the trail. I wasn’t exaggerating about the scrambling and moss.]
Despite this being a traverse it was a very challenging route when sustained four hours or more. The mountaintops required a lot of rugged scrambling up over square granite boulders and sliding down mossy slopes. How much progress was I making? There weren’t as many valley views as I had hoped but the immediate trail was frequently as idyllic as a Hobbit kingdom, with scraggly trees and mossy rocks disguising little caves.
My objective was to do some thinking on this hike but the terrain kept me occupied otherwise. Just staying focused and alert took all of my energy.
Finally, between hours 6 and 7 of nonstop hiking I approached Mount Worcester. The sun was starting to fade and I knew I’d have no time to savor the summit. My legs were rubbery and I’d just finished my water — all of it. That’s when I misread the trail and turned right, into an overlook/campsite dead end. I hadn’t seen an alternative. How could it be? I wondered. Was there no trail descending from the summit? Would I have to bushwhack to the base? It would be dark in 90 minutes. I started to panic, even gasping. It was exhaustion thinking for me, rather than rationality.
Here’s where the GAIAGPS tracker ($20 a year and well worth it!) saved me. It showed the turn I made rather than going straight to the summit. When I walked back to that junction I could see what made me turn, the path to the campsite was more obvious than the path to the summit. One short scramble up a rock and the summit was clearly ahead of me. Relief cascaded through my whole body until my legs shook.
I took a few minutes for a photo and even remembered a bottle of Gatorade I’d buried deep in my pack just for emergencies. Having consumed just 100 calories an hour, I was out of granola bars so the timing couldn’t have been better. It was orange and sticky on my teeth but I didn’t care. I got out my poles and turned toward the descending trail.
The trail met a logging road cris-crossed by a stream and full of sparkling gold stones. The descent felt good on my tense, sore legs and hips. I’d be drinking a beer on the cabin porch soon, and the thought made me smile.
I still have no idea what made that noise.
Hunger to Worcester Traverse (VT) There was a noise like the twang of the deepest note of a bass guitar. My breath caught in my throat and my feet stopped involuntarily as the sound reverberated through every cell in my body.

Opening Soon! St. Johnsbury!
By Elizabeth Walters — Our Saint Johnsbury office will soon open officially, and we are delighted that we will be able to provide better customer service to our GMSS community members in the Northeast Kingdom.
We have served the people of the Northeast Kingdom for over 25 years and we finally have a convenient location to provide services and support in the heart of Caledonia County.
Our new location is on Saint Johnsbury’s historic Main St., opposite the Saint Johnsbury House and right next to the Hilltopper Restaurant.
As of beginning of March, phones and Internet are operational. Painting is done. Furniture will arrive by mid March. The copier/fax machine is expected in the very near future.
Scott Franks (AFC Team Service Coordinator) and I are already ‘home-based’ there. We are currently hiring for an additional service coordinator, as well as administrative support staff, and we will continue to grow and hire – we think quickly – to meet local need.
Very soon, GMSS teams will be able to get support, pick up forms, hold team meetings, schedule appointments with Dr. Van Tuinen, and more, at the office of their choosing. Stay tuned for the announcement of our official opening! You’ll find us here.

Andrew Bogut, Bad, and Bad Day: Total LOVEBUG alert! Super social relaxed, friendly, & affectionate girl! STELLAR Safer Scores All Coveted l's across the board! I'maVER Sweet Giru d 30382 3 Yrs. Old, 49 los oP LOVE Waiting Por YOU, Brooklyn Acc TO BE KILLED – 6/20/2018 Dillon was supposedly found as a stray, but when a family found her, Dillon thought she had finally found her forever home. Single Review: “I Can Change” by Lake Street Dive
The arrival of Lake Street Dive’s sixth studio album is nearly here, Free Yourself Up set for a May 4th release (and out via Nonesuch Records), the band who seems poised to be one of the next breakout bands in the music world giving fans another riveting look at the album recently with the release of “I Can Change”. A gentle, largely acoustic track, it acts as a vessel for Rachael Price and her stunning set of pipes, the vocalist delivering another ravishing performance that will leave listeners in awe. Soulful and punctuated by hints of a jazz influence, she carefully and gorgeously articulates each word, putting as much emphasis on the next as was noticeable on the last, literally keeping the listener hanging on to every word. Matching the delicate nature captured in the minimalistic music bed to tapping into a deeper, more forceful tone that is rich and lush, her delivery is sincere and heartfelt as she reflects on the state of things in regards to both the world and herself, pondering where society and even she as an individual are and the point both can evolve to.
“Hate casts a long shadow. I know that I lie in it, and let it rule my mind from time to time…” Those opening lines establish “I Can Change” so magnificently, the song being rooted in the hate that persists in the world today, where some want to continue to oppress and marginalize different groups based solely on their race, beliefs, or other ways people choose to live their lives. The chorus, “…I can change. I can still change…” is meant to ring loud and true and resonate with everyone, a call to be better and to move beyond such basic actions and emotions, highlighting a person’s desire to be and do better. To be more respectful of the other lives they get to coexist with on this planet and be more welcoming to all individuals. The second verse ends with another superb line, “…I am scared that I won't get it right. But fear won't rule my heart tonight.” It’s marked by hesitation in Price’s voice, the need to hold oneself to a higher standard ultimately overriding the fear of failing. Perhaps the greatest thing that “I Can Change” has going for it is the fact that, while the message behind it is laid out pretty plainly, it’s still a song that is open to interpretation. The hate it speaks of could just as easily be touching on self-loathing, the change in question running even deeper, perhaps instead referring to a personal battle with some sort of addiction or other destructive behavior. The song providing a reminder that it’s never too late to change and that a future always lies ahead, no matter how off course a person may believe themselves to be. A powerful and stirring song, “I Can Change” further conveys the artistic and musical might that Lake Street Dive possesses. It’s beautifully crafted, boasting wonderful layers and it’s teeming with emotions, the fact that they are more nuanced just making the latest single from Free Yourself Up all the more compelling.
