💸✊🏿🎨🗣#ArtIsAWeapon #BlackWomensEqualPayDay 8.13.2020 #graphics and #information reposted from @voltedvoices @nytgender and #artist @gobeeharris Swipe ⬅️ _______________________ Reposted from @voltedvoices Today, August 13th is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, the approximate day a Black woman must work into the new year to make what a white non-Hispanic man made at the end of the previous year. Black women make only $0.62 per $1.00 a white man makes. This means that it takes Black women in the U.S. 20 months to earn what white men make in a year. And the impact is that over the course of her career, a Black woman will lose nearly $1M dollars.        To really make an impact, we need systemic changes. You should be advocating for government policies to bridge the gap. In your workplace, push for more transparency as it relates to pay. And, when you find yourself at the negotiation table with Black women, pay them what they are worth AND owed. What are you doing to change the narrative? Help us spread the word by sharing this post on your story, to raise awareness of this inequity.    _______________________ Reposted from @nytgender In the midst of a pandemic that has highlighted racial and gender disparities, a new report from the National Women’s Law Center reveals sobering statistics about Black women and equal pay. Nationally, Black women working full-time, year-round earn 62 cents for every dollar paid to their white, non-Hispanic male counterparts, according to the report — a number that may exacerbate the already disproportionate effects of Covid-19 on Black women. Black women in the U.S. make up 11 percent of essential jobs such as home health aides, nursing assistants and cashiers, according to the @nationalwomenslawcenter, despite being 6.3 percent of the workforce overall. They are overrepresented in many of the industries facing coronavirus-related job losses. #BlackAugust #EconomicJustice #VoltedVoices #ShareBlackStories #EqualPay #EqualPayToday #WageGap #injustice #BlackWomen #PayInequity #EqualRights #awareness #negotiate #transparency #TraScapades https://www.instagram.com/p/CD16jDDAkwS/?igshid=ozizbtxqeshs

Educate yourselves. Don’t be an asshole! Be an ally! Posted @withregram • @voltedvoices Here is a short list of questions some Black people get asked all the time that well-meaning people say without any special considerations or after thoughts. We wanted to raise awareness about why some of these questions make people uncomfortable and the hidden racist-undertones behind them. We’ve also included some “pro-tips” to navigate these tricky situations going forward. Have you been guilty of asking any of these questions? How will you hold yourself and others accountable? What’s a racially-charged question you’re tired of being asked? Let us know (respectfully) in the comments!    #blacklivesmatter #voltedvoices #blm #questions #helpfultips #resourcesforwhitepeople #dearblackpeople #conversation #understanding #selfreflection #difficultconversations #allyship #antiracistresources https://www.instagram.com/p/CDAEJ3kJwiu/?igshid=qtwfley10fb4
