[Image description: A bingo card titled "Character Opinion Bingo". It has five rows and five columns, each space is filled with an opinion about a fictional character.
Row 1: They are soo cool looking. everyone but me is wrong about them <3. wasted potential. if they were real I would be afraid of them. if they were real I would marry them.
Row 2: they're like a blorbo to me. they're deeper than they seem. not as deep as they seem. i like them enough to project my own issues onto them. they got done DIRTY by fans.
Row 3: didn't get enough screentime. i want to carry them in a handbag like a tiny dog. free space. nothing i like about them is technically canon. wow! they are a horrible person.
Row 4: i don't really have much to say about them. why do they look like that. I'm mentally ill about them. they work better as part of a dynamic. wow... they are literally me!
Row 5: they got too much screen time. i forgot this character existed. i actively dislike them, sorry. why was this character in the work at all. they've done nothing wrong in their life, ever <3.

Lonely People | Ch 4
Pairing: Harrison Osterfield x Reader
Word count: 2141
Warnings: implied alcoholism
Tumblr media
That Friday night, Sierra dragged y/n and Jace to another house party. Y/n was feeling a little under the weather, so she was initially going to stay home, but the promise of alcohol was enough to get her out of bed.
The second they arrived, Sierra ran off with Tom, leaving her roommates to fend through the crowd.
“Go find a place outside, I’ll bring you a drink,” Jace said over the music. Y/n nodded, leaning in to say, “Make it strong,” before she scurried off outside.
She often got colds, but their frequency didn’t make them any easier to deal with. Her head would ache and her throat would close, and she hated all of it. Jace knew that all too well. He had taken care of her on multiple occasions, and, although she always verbally objected, she not so secretly loved it.
She found a spot outside that was quieter. There was a cushioned bench far enough away from the house to barely feel the vibrations from inside, but close enough that she didn’t have to walk too far. She stared down at her phone until someone approached her. She looked up expecting to see Jace with her drink, but instead she was met with blue eyes.
“This seat taken?” Harrison asked, but didn’t wait for a reply before he sat beside her.
“It would be if Jace had any sense of direction.”
They made some idle conversation as she waited for Jace to come out with her drink. When he did step out though, he paused at the sight of her and Harrison.
He liked Harrison, it was hard to feel any other way, but he grew jealous every time he saw him with her. He couldn’t help it. The smile on her face when she was around Harrison was bright, and he hadn’t seen that since he had told her how he felt. It just added on to his self hatred. Her whole “no-dating” policy reassured him, but also made him feel sympathy for Harrison.
He made his way over to the bench, and y/n jumped up and beamed at him, thanking him for the drink. She sniffed it, and the fumes coming off the drink were telling. He hadn’t hesitated when pouring, just as she had liked. She smiled at him and sat on the grass, instructing him to sit on the bench with Harrison.
She leaned back between the two boys legs and drank, downing the liquid quicker than she should have.
Harrison and Jace carried out some conversations that y/n paid little attention to. The fact that she was feeling under the weather, mixed with her quick consumption of the alcohol, were causing her to zone out. Jace was paying close attention to her, watching her each time she got up to refill her drink. He could see her face getting progressively more pale, but he knew better than to get between her and her booze.
Her habits were concerning, even for him, but the last time he had seen someone try to stop her, she didn’t react very well. But as the night went on, and she hadn’t said a word, he couldn’t ignore it any longer.
Harrison had noticed as well, but he didn’t know if him telling her to slow down would be taken as intended. He was relieved when Jace spoke up with, “Peach, you look sick. Slow it down for a while, yeah?”
They could both tell that she wanted to snap back with some kind of sarcasm, but were surprised to see her only nod her head and set down her empty cup on the ground next to her.
Jace was even more surprised when she laid her head on his legs after he had turned his attention back to Harrison. She wasn’t one to show any type of affection usually, even when she was drunk. He loved teasing her by giving her hugs, holding tight while she squirmed in his arms. So this was way out of character for her, but he wasn’t about to complain. He also managed to discreetly send a snapchat to Sierra, captioned with nothing but questions marks.
Y/n started to come back to life about an hour later, and she began begging Jace and Harrison to go inside with her. Jace knew that if they said no, she would go off by herself, and neither of them wanted that, so despite his desire for her to stay and rest, he followed her inside. Harrison was quick to follow after them. He quietly chuckled as he watched y/n’s small body lead them through the crowd. She was a good foot shorter than both him and Jace, but she barreled through the crowd faster than either of them could have.
Y/n led them to the kitchen, and grabbed another drink. Jace shot her a look, but she promised she was ok for one more. She wasn’t pale anymore, so he believed her and let it slide.
“Y/l/n, fancy seeing you here,” a voice called from behind the group. Y/n recognized it instantly and tensed up. Both Jace and Harrison read her body language immediately and turned to see who had spoken. They both recognized Robin. Jace recalled last time they had run into him at a party. He had said something to y/n, something she wouldn’t repeat to him or Sierra, and she got so upset that she tried to key his car. So, Jace instinctively put himself between the two, which caused Harrison to chuckle again. He knew that there was a feud between the two, but he had no idea to what extent it went.
“Did you need something, Robin, or are you just here to ruin everyone’s night?” Y/n said, trying to make herself visible over Jace’s shoulder.
“I was ready to ask you the same thing.”
“Fuck off, asshole.”
“Ok, time to go,” Jace muttered, pushing y/n towards Harrison so he could get them both out of the room. That didn’t stop y/n from giving Robin a dirty look as she was dragged out.
Just as he dragged them back outside, Jace got a text from Sierra. “Shit, I gotta go find Si. Harrison, keep an eye on her?”
“She’s an adult, I’m sure she doesn’t need a babysitter,” Harrison laughed, quirking his brow.
“When it comes to Robin, she’s like a rabid chihuahua. Trust me, don’t let her out of your sight.”
“I’m not that bad,” y/n called after Jace as he walked away.
“Come on, Chihuahua,” Harrison smiled, putting his arm around her shoulders. He led her back to the bench and sat down next to her.
Jace eventually found Sierra outside, and although the text she had sent had implied an urgency, she just had a simple question that could have been resolved through another message. He made his way back out to the bench where he expected to find y/n and Harrison, but he was still not prepared for the sight that met him. Y/n was on her phone, as was usual in social situations. Both of her roommates constantly complained about it, but it was a habit she wasn’t willing to change. But what Jace wasn’t prepared for was how Harrison was looking at her. It was just out of the corner of his eye, but Jace recognized the look. It was the same way he had been looking at her for the past year.
A wave of jealousy washed over him, but it was followed by pity. Sure, he could throw a fit about this new guy liking her, but he knew her too well. He knew that no matter how hard Harrison tried, he couldn’t crack her shell. No one could. Jace had been trying for longer than anyone else, and he had gotten closer than previously thought possible, but y/n was resilient. So instead of holding a grudge, Jace decided to do what he wished someone had done for him the night he had fallen for her.
He joined them again, sitting in between the two, and resumed a conversation with the other boy. Y/n was oblivious to what they were saying, but he knew better than to bring things up right in front of her. But, just as he had predicted, y/n got up for one more drink before they had to leave for the night. No matter how hard she tried to keep an air of mystery around her, some of her habits were like clockwork, making it easy for even a stranger to pick up on them.
Jace watched as Harrison watched her leave out of the corner of his eye, and once she was inside, Jace let out a sigh before he began his spiel.
“I know I’m probably out of line saying this, but you really should quit while you’re ahead man,” Jace spoke with an unmistakeable pain in his voice.
“Excuse me?”
“Look, man, I’ve been in your place for longer than anyone should be. You don’t have a chance. No one does. So just get out while you still can.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Harrison chuckled, a slight blush creeping on his cheeks.
“I’m not trying to be a dick. I can just tell you like her, but she doesn’t ‘do the whole dating thing’. Trust me.”
“And what makes you think I like her?”
“I mean, you can lie to yourself all you want, but I see the way you’ve been looking at her tonight. I’m just warning you before you get hurt. I wish someone could have done the same for me.”
Harrison couldn’t speak for a moment. He was only confused by the whole interaction. Sure, he didn’t find y/n unattractive, but he wouldn’t say he really liked her in the way Jace was implying. And he had no idea why Jace would warn him against her. Before he could fully process the conversation, y/n was coming back out towards them, her eyes barely looking up from her phone as she slowly made her way over.
“You have nothing to worry about,” Harrison simply stated right before she came back into earshot. And although Jace called bullshit, he dropped it. At least he could say he tried.
That night, on the way home, Jace couldn’t get the situation off of his mind. Y/n and Sierra giggled next to him, singing loudly as they walked down the street. It was good seeing them so happy, and Jace wished he could be in the same mood, but he felt an obligation to both Harrison and y/n to make sure the past didn’t repeat itself. It was the only thing that occupied his mind.
When they got home, Sierra went right to bed, and y/n went into the kitchen to get a glass of water before she crashed for the night. Jace was about to go past the kitchen to his room, but he paused before he reached his door. When y/n turned around, she chuckled at his appearance, but that was mostly to avoid letting him know that the sight made her stomach drop. She could tell that he wanted to tell her something, and she didn’t want it all to happen again. She couldn’t handle going through it again. But that didn’t stop her from caring just enough to pipe up with, “You need something?”
“Uhm, yeah, I guess.”
“Well, what is it?” she asked after a suspenseful moment of silence.
“It’s about Harrison.”
“What about him?”
She thought she knew where this was going. She figured Jace was just a little jealous that she had another male friend, but that was something that could be solved with a bit of teasing. She wasn’t expecting him to break the news that Harrison had a crush on her.
“And what makes you think that?”
“I can just tell.”
“He’s just my friend, Jace. He doesn’t like me.”
“Y/n, you also thought we were just friends. No offense, but you’re not the best as seeing stuff like this.”
“Ok, fine, why do you feel the need to tell me then? It’s not like it’s going to lead to anything, you have nothing to worry about. You know that.”
“Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m worried about.”
“What do you mean?”
“He’s a good guy. I just… I don’t want him to be in the same situation that I’m in. I know theres not much you can do about it, just please, try not to break his heart.”
Too many thoughts were racing through her head, a majority of them things she could never say out loud, especially not to Jace. So all she could muster up was, “I’ll do my best,” before she rushed off to her room. Jace could tell she was upset, but he let it go and went to bed.
A/N:

Thenkies!
I’m baaaack...kinda! Thanks for waiting 30 million years for me to return!
Wasn’t expecting the whole Corona thing so my sudden online science lab and math courses kept me from drawing anything big asssss they have fried my brain. My brain is also boiling in its own fluid with how hot it is already.
Hope everyone is doing well and practicing social distancing and mastering the art of washing your hands. We can get through this!
(Using Zoom for exams is weirrrrd. Then again I could simply get dressed, open the blinds, and calm down, instead of sitting in front of 32 people, including my professor, in a dark room, in only my dad’s shirt, vibrating like a rabid chihuahua...)
Edit: I totally forgot about the new Tumblr thing. Does Tumblr flag posts with cursing or is it just things generally nsfw? Some things might dance on the border and little boy Dao loves to say the “fuck” word.
Do they still flag things randomly or has something been done about that?

look. LOOK. it’s not my fault. i love writing battle scenes for all of like 2015-2016 that’s ALL i did i spent HOURS researching martial arts and watching fights to make sure i knew the names of the moves and practiced the motions myself so i could describe what they felt like and my atv mc’s playlist is a perfect kickass playlist so really it’s not my fault for thinking “hnnngh climatic showdown but bigger. better. sexier”
