so few people cares about xion, all on her own. everyone she knows and love cares about her by proxy of someone else. sora cares about xion because xion is kairi. kairi cares for xion because xion is sora. riku cares about xion because she's both of his best friends. roxas cares for her because so much of her is kairi and so much of him is sora. aqua and terra care about xion because she's ventus. even with axel, it's hard not to fear that part of what he loves about her is the parts that are just roxas. absolutely everyone she knows loves what she is copied from —— absolutely everyone who loves her loves her ( she sometimes thinks ) not as herself but as proxy for someone else. at the very least, their care for her is influenced by the fact that she's a copy of what they already loved, and without that they might not love her as much or at all. and this goes the other way, too. would she love riku the way she does if she wasn't built to do so? does she have to second - guess her own love, too? she trusts that roxas and axel care for her absolutely. she doesn't NOT believe that aqua and terra and hayner and kairi and et cetera do genuinely care for her. but it's really difficult and painful to have so few bonds that are genuinely hers, and to have to wonder if these bonds would exist at all if it weren't for the people she echoes. sure they care about her now, but — would kairi care for her if she wasn't sora? would aqua love her if she wasn't ven? and, worse, if love of her is just a copy of love of somebody else, she can never fully trust that the people she loves ( roxas and lea aside, and even with them some small part of her believes that they love each other more than they love her ) wouldn't abandon her in favor of the original, if it came to that. she just...wants something that's all hers. relationships that are all hers, and not echos of somebody else's love.
