It’s strange when “democracy” means people have to choose between Ivanka’s dad and Ella’s mom, as if that’s supposed to feel empowering. Sure, two bad options don’t feel great, but hey, at least there are options. In some countries, you’d be lucky to get even one choice. And in others? They don’t get elections at all, just a permanent leader who shows up like it’s just another day on the clock. But here democracy feels like a two for one special with a free side of disappointment.

Now that Ivanka’s dad has won. Yes Yes my friend !! Abo Ivanka has won!! And here we are, looking at this system and thinking, “Was this even a choice?” It’s like being asked to pick between plain oatmeal and soggy cereal for breakfast. Sure, it’s technically a choice, but nobody’s excited about it. The two main parties hog the spotlight so completely, they’ve turned “options” into a choice between “slightly bad” and “absolutely dreadful.” And heaven forbid a third-party voice shows up, because here, you need a 50% popularity rating just to get a seat at the grown-ups’ table.

By now, picking a president feels like choosing between the flu and food poisoning. The two big parties are so close in their love for big donors, it’s like watching rival soap operas funded by the same network. We call it “democracy,” but it feels like a rigged game, with mega-donors pulling the strings while the rest of us are just the audience, sitting here with popcorn, hoping the plot somehow gets better.

Sure, many lean toward the Democrats, thinking they’re the “better” choice. But from where I’m sitting, especially as a Palestinian, neither side looks promising. Take Gaza: Democrats have left it in ruins, like a bulldozer at a sandcastle competition, with 80% of the infrastructure leveled and 90% of the people displaced. Now Ivanka’s dad is in charge, and, honestly, we’re past worrying about escalation, because there’s nothing left to escalate to. At this rate, they have already broken the records for destruction and the number of martyred, but the looming fear now is if there’ll be any Gaza left to talk about.

For Palestinians, for Gaza, for much of the world, this isn’t “democracy”; it’s a magic show where they tell you to pick a card, but no matter what you choose, it always comes back to the same card: disaster.

And now, winter’s arrived in Gaza. The nights there? Let’s just say, they’re colder than the stare you’d get from a #### who’s been asked to pay $12 or 15 for a black coffee. My family, like so many others, is living in a tent, a “tent” being a generous word for a few sheets trying to pass for walls. The wind comes in from every side, and huddling under thin blankets in this weather is like fighting a snowstorm with a paper towel. The cold bites to the bone, and there’s no escape; it’s like nature’s way of reminding us we’re still here, exposed.

If you can, please consider donating. Even the smallest help means warmth on a freezing night, a bit of comfort in the middle of a relentless winter. It’s a glimmer of hope for my family and trust me, it’s more welcome than soggy cereal ever could be.

I am Mahmoud AbuShammala, 30 years old, residing in Belgium. I am writing to you today to urgently seek your help to save the remaining members of my family in Gaza.

We are a large family consisting of 11 siblings, along with our parents Ahmed and Saada. We lived in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, and had a decent and happy life. Each of us has our own family living in Rafah, Khan Younis, and Gaza. Our lives were stable until the war came at the end of 2023, turning everything upside down

On 13/02/2024, we lost our dear father due to shelling, and my mother could not bear the shock, passing away a few weeks later on 02/03/2024. The tragedy did not stop there; we also lost my sister Huda’s husband, Abdulrahim, due to random shelling. In total, we have lost nearly 50 family members and relatives

Our homes were destroyed completely or partially, and our lives turned into homelessness. We live in tents and overcrowded shelters that are unfit for human life. My family members moved between Khan Younis and Rafah seeking safety, suffering from food shortages, disease outbreaks, and lack of medical care. Children’s lives became at risk, losing their right to education and suffering from lack of care and affection

Any amount can make a significant difference in our family’s life. Help us share our story and raise awareness of our plight. Your words and prayers give us strength and hope to face these harsh conditions. Our hope is great in your compassionate hearts. We invite you to stand with us in this difficult ordeal. ARTISTS FOR PALESTINE 🇵🇸 - ROUND 2!! On the 16th and 23rd of March, I'll be doing art requests on stream with other notable artists to raise money for Operation Olive Branch and Project Watermelon.

This round's roster is very lucky to include notable webcomic artists like explodikid, Graveweaver, Curryuku and Speremint who respectively create Covenant, I'm The Grim Reaper, Not So Shoujo Love Story and Brimstone and Roses on WEBTOON. With no judgment or rancor, I'm asking people who haven't yet boosted any fundraisers for Gaza to please think about reblogging some. Especially when people have already gone ahead and vetted them.

News cycles are focused elsewhere and attention is turned away at the moment, but the needs have only risen.

Famine has now been declared across the strip.

Almost nothing has been getting in for months.

The reason I'm asking people who haven't yet participated is because we're just normal people here, even with regular salaries there's only so much we can donate. Bringing new people into the fold is necessary as others are tapped out.

Ah, another reason I wanted to add to keep donating: a lot of these fundraisers were created for evacuation but the crossing is still closed. In the meantime, people with no jobs or homes need to continue buying very difficult to find price-gouged food and supplies. They're basically been living through an isolated dystopia forced on them by others. That's why you'll see fundraising goals raising.

Finally: I know another reason that makes it difficult to spread fundraisers is that you don't know which to pick. It's tough to feel like you're the arbiter of who gets help and sadly, who doesn't. Gazafunds has made that easy for you. They have a list of vetted fundraisers and every time you visit the page, you'll get a different one. right now it's incredibly important to give time, attention, and money to online fundraisers. but it's also incredibly important not to let scammers take advantage of that and steal money that could actually save lives right now.

firstly-- if we go to this person's blog, and navigate to "archive--"

this person's blog has only existed for a few days, only has a handful of generic posts (many reblogged multiple times,) and made their first reblog the same day that they posted their "fundraiser" post. this is a MASSIVE red flag.

please also note that neither their ask nor post actually mention palestine or gaza at all, but it's still tagged with "free palestine" and "gaza."

though this one should obviously be taken with a grain of salt, it is also worth noting the poor grammar here, because this can be (but isn't always!!!) another red flag. Note also that all the details are really vague and don't quite make sense... user describes "enduring cold" and their "nose freezing" though it's the middle of the summer. This user says that they're "sick," but doesn't really offer any further details about this. This user says that they need money for "resources," but don't elaborate on what exactly they need. They vaguely elude to a need for lodging, caretakers, and medicine, but don't actually give us any details-- despite this they have a "$1200" goal. What is this specific goal of $1200 for? Is that the cost of their medication? Overdue medical bills? Cost for rent this month?... They also apologize in their ask for "tagging" me... but they didn't tag me. They sent me an ask.

Another red flag is that their link labeled "Fundraiser link" leads directly to a Paypal donation page rather than a gofundme or anything else. If someone chooses to collect aid through paypal, venmo, etc. instead of through a gofundme, that's not a huge issue in and of itself... but it is fishy that it's mislabeled like this.

And if we GOOGLE this user's tumblr name or paypal name, we can find results like this:

This also led me to find them on @/kyra45's blog on their list of current scam accounts.

Despite all this, they have close to 100 reblogs from well-meaning people trying to signal boost and ask for donations on their behalf.

With the current situation in Palestine and the amount of actual, legitimate fundraisers and donations being circulated right now, for Palestine, Sudan, the Congo, or otherwise, it is more important than ever to be aware of people who are trying to take advantage of the situation for their own personal gain. Whenever possible, please take the time to do some due diligence when you receive messages like this and check to see if a fundraiser is legitimate! It always sucks for someone to be the victim of a scam and lose money to someone playing pretend on the internet... but it sucks even more when that money could have gone to people in actual, acute, dire need.

This is me and my family before October 7th, our life was very beautiful, our house was very warm and quiet, I used to care about every detail and take pictures of every corner of it. When the war started, our area was warned and we had to leave our house. First, my wife told me and she was very sad, but she had no choice in order to survive. These bags are the only ones we took with us. A few days later, we received the news that our house was bombed, and I lost everything (my bed, my clothes, everything I owned, all my beautiful things). As you can see, this rubble took with it all the beautiful memories. Even the shoe store, which was my source of livelihood and was the only source to meet our basic needs, by the way, was destroyed. In addition, it was a shoe showroom, and it was bombed and destroyed as well. , ,, I had ambitions and dreams, but they were destroyed and shattered, but unfortunately, now no one is happy, because of the terrifying war and because Gaza City was bombed, warred and destroyed as well.
