something so interesting to me is that i grew up believing the words gay and lesbian were slurs because they were hurled at me multiple times a day, with some particularly vivid memories of having my face busted open while being called a rug munching lesbian or having an apple lobbed at my face from a moving bus while the word gay was screamed at me, or more horrifying ones where my very presence made girls cry and say they feel unsafe with me in the same room as them because of my lesbian gaze, so i always sort of. Flinched. when i heard people say gay or lesbian like i was preparing to get jumped or just generally hurt, and it took a lot of work to become comfortable with these words. a lot of work on my Own.

like i had to reclaim both of them. i turned gay specifically into a romantic phrase i used in my relationships in order to “change its meaning” in my mind, “that’s so gay” went from an insult to just that was very loving. which helped immensely.

lesbian was so much more complicated because being called a lesbian when i didn’t even come out as a lesbian left me in a really confused position with my sexuality. it’s hard to reclaim a word you never associated with yourself anyway. so i just surrounded myself with lesbians and watched a massive amount of lesbian movies (some have aged. so poorly. but imagine me and you will always be famous) just so i could turn lesbian back into what it really means and not what i associated it with

so i feel like. when people are insensitive to those who still aren’t comfortable with queer, really need to stop and think about that. people aren’t uncomfortable with terms out of no where. they didn’t wake up and decide ‘queer sucks actually’, it comes from a place of pain, of trauma. and some people do not wanna work through that, now, maybe ever, and that’s their choice. especially if they still regularly hear it, which would make working through it and re-associating it extremely difficult, maybe impossible.

i stopped hearing these words (gay and lesbian) being use as insults the second i left school. but i’ve personally heard stories where people are still called queer on the streets, hear it used by their family, and it’s always as a slur.

i’ve never heard queer used in real life, genuinely never, my only real knowledge on the word was the passing “it used to mean this, now it means this,” because queer gets used in some video games i play to mean Weird Thing. like in ffxiv, if you play through a realm reborn, you’re gonna run into queer items or enemies all the time. so my understanding of queer was people going “omg gay” when they saw a queer item in ffxiv and at this point that was wholly a positive. so queer never had a negative association with me. i knew one existed but i’d never experienced it or seen it in passing. reclaiming queer came so naturally to me that i never had to put effort in to reclaim it. it was reclaimed when i got here.

but that doesn’t mean that’s universal. tldr that’s my point, just because you have reclaimed a slur, or never had to try to reclaim it because it wasn’t used as a slur around you, doesn’t mean it’s not a slur for other people, and denying that it has been a slur, still is a slur in many such cases, just hurts people.

i’m tired of how much the lgbt+ community seems to be about hurting each other. this should be something we are most understanding on and have empathy for.

overall i dont think he'd make a big deal out of it or anything

he'd be really nice and respectful

would clown you if something went wrong and you started cursing in your language tho

omg he'd probably get the other members involved too

so they'd all be clowning you together lmao

and they just won't stop even if it's already been WEEKS

let's say your family speaks only a bit of english and no korean so it's not easy for jay and them to communicate

and you kind of have to become a translator

so lik the two of you arrive at your family's house and they let you in

and they're like "honey!! it's so nice to finally meet your boyfriend!" in your native language right

and jay's there just like: I'm gonna pretend like i understood everything you just said ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ

and for the rest of the night you're translating what everyone is saying

then you get home and it's really late

but you had a good time and it seems like your family really likes jay

after a movie and a cuddle session on the couch you both get ready for bed and go to sleep

and after just laying there for 15 minutes in silence jay starts poking your side

so you're like wHAT

and he goes: can you help me learn (your language)?🥺 i wanna surprise your parents the next time I see them🥺🥺

let's say you've been dating for like 2 months

and you haven't really told your family yet

and one day you're on a videocall with one of your family members

and he slept over at your place

you're sitting in the living room after you've made breakfast

and you and that family member are on a videocall

and while that's going on sunghoon wakes up in your bedroom

and he's like ???

so he quickly does a bit of a morning routine

and goes to find you

and accidentally walks into the frame of your camera

so your family member just saw a random guy just emerge from your bedroom

and they're like ? who's that behind you

so you're like ??? there's noone behind me?? and you turn around and get startled since sunghoon is just standing by the door to your bedroom

he's like:🕴️

you fall off the couch and sunghoon's like "baby, are you okay???"

and he's trying to help you up

and your family member saw that mess unfold lol

after sunghoon checks up on you and the both of you sit down your family member asks a million questions and refuses to let sunghoon go out of frame for even a second

so sunghoon sits through the rest of the call next to you on the couch while you're answering all these questions your family member is asking

and he doesn't understand anything

after the call ends he probably walks back to your bedroom and falls asleep again since the encounter with your family member completely drained him of energy

since we know this boy's an introvert

and introverts have to recharge after being social and engaging with people

also the whole entire situation probably shook with him a lil

after he wakes up again he walks into the kitchen where you are and hugs you from behind

and then he softly asks "do you think you could maybe teach me a few words in your language?👉👈"

and of course you can't say no

who could say no to sunghoon???

so you help him learn some words

and the next time you facetime your family this boi is ready to impress them with his speaking skills😌

you and the other enhypen members were eating dinner together at their dorms

hee decided to make ramyeon and so the other members and you decided to help him and make some for yourselves

but sunoo was in their 'make-up room' doing his skincare routine (so you took it upon yourself to make one for him too)

after you set the noodles to cook your phone started going off

so jay and hee decided to compete and see who'd get to the phone first (since it was in the living room)

and so they ran to get it

knocking a lot of stuff over in the process

and scaring jake who went to the bathroom earlier

then jay (who was leading btw) tripped over a random bag on the floor and hee then tripped over him

when they got back to the kitchen they were a lil bruised up so you decided to take care of them first and just let the call go through

they both had some light bruises and jay somehow managed to also get a few scratches

so he was bleeding a bit

he was being extra

you had to save him :')

so you got a few bandaids and patched them both up a bit

after that you went to the living room to call back to whoever was calling you in peace since everyone was busy in the kitchen

you called them and they started nagging you for not picking up and scaring them

and right in that moment sunoo came out of the 'make-up room' and went into the living room where he left his bag when he got back from practice (the same bag that caused jay to trip lol)

and he heard you and your friend pretty much yelling at each other and bickering through the phone

and he got curious

so he walked up to you and was like

"who are you taking to?(✿^‿^)"

and the friend on the other line heard him and was like

"YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND??!?!"

so for the next 30 minutes or so they made you explain everything to them

and they were extra nosy

so you were taking about how you met, what your relationship is like, his friends, what he's like,

and other things

while sunoo was sitting next to you

looking up at you with so much love and adoration in his eyes even though he couldn't understand a single word you said

after you and your friend said bye and hung up he was like

and well, you just didn't mention anything about having a boyfriend at all

while you're still calling WITH him

so for like 15 minutes you're talking to that family member while jungwon just listens

and while that's happening his thought process is like..

so they have a few days off before they start working on some new projects and stuff and ni-ki somehow managed to get sick

even though you, the members, and the staff were making sure he was taking care of himself

so you're just hanging around the dorms

helping the members around the house and checking up on ni-ki from time to time

at this specific moment you were cooking dinner with jay

so you kind of just left your phone with ni-ki in their bedroom (where he's resting)

and you got a call from one of your friends or smth (maybe like your roommate??)

so ni-ki called you to let you know

and he was like: „Y/NNNNNN!!!!"

you're obviously concerned like ??? what's wrong?? is everything okay??? is ni-ki okay??? my child why are you yelling so much???

and you bolt from the kitchen to the bedroom

and when you run through the door

you stub your toe on a dresser or something

and you start cursing in your language

and ni-ki hears it all

and even though you're in pain

he can't stop laughing

cause he's kinda evil >:)

then after he stops laughing at you he's like: are you okay? ://

and you are eventually

fortunately no toes were broken that day

then he asks you what you were saying

and if you could teach him all those words

so you're like should i? should i not? and you eventually do (bad idea lol)

let's just say you got a beating from all his hyungs after he wouldn't stop cursing in your language

but it did take them a while to find out what all those words ni-ki is saying mean

so this child would probably teach them these words for fun

and would tell them that it means like 'i love you' and 'have a great day' or smth

but he would always laugh whenever they said any of them

and it was somewhat suspicious

which resulted in jungwon searching it up

and nearly then he nearly beat you with a pan later

and caffeine Does Not work on mike. and jo’s already out cold and mike really doesnt wanna wake him▪so mike pulls up at the next service area and texts ike to let him know whats going on and then he just crashes y'know??▪they wake up the next day feeling EXTREMELY refreshed!! so they grab some breakfast from the service area and take their time eating it before continuing the drive back▪jo starts laughing bc he has like 50 missed calls and 704847385 texts from elmer and buttons (tHeY wErE rOoMmAtEs) and has to text them to tell them hes ok and hes gonna be at mike’s for a little while▪they had a Good Time

* raul esparza , forty five , cismale — hey , have you seen rafael romero anywhere ? i’m hearing beyond the sea by bobby darin so he must be around here somewhere . hm , maybe they’re at home in commercial drive or at work . they’re a high school teacher , y’know . people also call them the academic ‘cause they can be pretty reserved & stubborn . but others say they’re also benevolent & empathetic , so i guess it balances out .

okay not to be dramatic but .. raf had a pretty rough childhood idk why but ... all of my muses did .. maybe i’m projecting or maybe i like 2 suffer but uk.. its wtvr ig :/

— born in dawson creek , british columbia , raf’s family had to move to the small city of grande prairie when he was around eight years old . his dad was laid off from his job at the oil patch and they moved to alberta for the supposedly better jop opportunities but with only a high school diploma and his lack of ambition , there really wasn’t much there for him . 

— with 5 kids in the family and an unemployed dad , raf always kinda knew the #struggle . and when he thought things couldn’t get any harder ! raf’s mom was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer his freshman year of high school , it kinda ran in her side of the family . then by the time sophomore year rolled around , raf was helping his dad plan her funeral .

— after that , things really started going downhill fast . his dad still couldn’t find a job and started pretty much flaking on them , disappearing multiple nights in a row , drinking heavily . raf’s dad was a good man , respectful , and care about his kids but just not enough . it came to a point when raf reached his eighteenth birthday that he just left them , with nothing more than a note apologizing , saying they’d do better without him . 

— throughout high school and up until his college years you better believe that raf was on that work grind™ . his mom left him and his siblings the house plus a decent amount of money but he wanted to save that money for their schooling so he was working multiple jobs at a time , some full time , just to support himself and his siblings . raf missed so much school one year that he almost failed his junior year of high school . but grande prairie was a small place and all of his teachers pretty much knew what was going on so they cut him some slack .

— really , they pitied the kid . they tried really hard to help him in whatever way they could his senior year since they knew raf actually had potential . they got him to focus more on his education and work just that much harder and it all paid off ! because raf got a full-ride scholarship to the university of british columbia . things really started looking up after this .

— since he refused to leave his siblings behind , raf sold their house in grande prairie and used the money from that with the money their mom left them to move himself and his siblings to the tiniest , cheapest apartment he could find in vancouver . while still working , in ubc he completed his bachelor’s in english and afterwards he got accepted into their law school .

— after law school , raf flitted around the city between different jobs at smaller firms for a couple of years until landing a decent one at one of the city’s top corporate law firms . there , he worked his way up and up through the years , earning a name for himself in the city until he reached the title of senior partner . throughout this , he supported his siblings , helping put them through college , etc .

— it was some time around this point in his life that raf fell in love , got married , and had a kid of his own . but he was so focused on work , not wanting his family to go through the same financial struggles he did , that he completely forgot about spending time with his wife and son . this was the main reason his wife divorced him and moved out of their condo and this kinda .. what led raf to ~reinvent~ himself and have a reverse mid-life crisis jfdijfing

— so he dropped his HIGH-PAYING JOB AT A TOP NOTCH CORPORATE LAW FIRM smh ,,, and picked up a teaching job at his sons high school :/ can u say .. embarrasing .. but he a smort binch and worked smth out money wise so that they’re not broke .... like a savings ? im a dum binch so idk but like ... yeah ....

9. What are the best things about your current fandom? I mean, for this fandom, like I said, it’s got all my friends in it. Everyone’s super supportive and there’s tons of opportunities to get involved and create stuff and support other creators! It’s probably one of the nicest communities I’ve been a part of.

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote? I think I mentioned this before, but it was self-insert Twilight fanfic. Honestly I wish I was just as shameless as I was in middle school. Writing Mary Sue self-insert fic where you ship yourself with a main character is fun and satisfying as hell.

22. Is there anything you regret writing? Aforementioned Twilight fanfiction. Though part of me doesn’t because it was my origin story and also, like I said, shameless and for fun.

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you? Depends!! Sometimes music really confuses my brain and makes me unable to think of words, especially if it’s really word-heavy music (which is most of what I listen to). If I’m really struggling, it usually helps to do it in silence so I can focus. But otherwise, I used to make little playlists of instrumental music to listen to, or play premade playlists of like study music or something.

33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics? I really like writing huuuuge epics/multi-chapters but I’m really bad at finishing things ;--; so most of what gets published are requested one-shots/ficlets (one of which was requested the other day and I’M STILL T R Y I N G I SWEAR)

34. What’s the word count on your longest fic? Oh buddy. It’s over 100K.

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about? Uh I guess? But I’m not particularly stuck to the “required word count” for the different vocab. I usually only write really short things when people request stuff haha. But it’s kinda fun~

36. What’s your favourite genre to write? Probably just straight angst. Angst that develops character, specifically, but angst nonetheless.

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why? Third person. I used to write in first person and for some reason it always seems less?? effective/neat to me? Plus I write very colloquially and I find it easier to do when I can write in third person.

38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs? Usually canon characters, but if it’s something like Total Drama that depends on constantly changing casts of characters, I’ve definitely made some of my own characters.

39. What is you greatest strength as a writer? Uhhh???? Uhhhh????? Does not compute????

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing? Effectively capturing characters, at least that fit my own standards. And then also the anxiety that comes along with thinking its good enough to waste people’s time with. :’)

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic? Fuckin’!!!! Wu Xing Shield, listed above!!! It’s the first fanfic I cried reading!!! And it’s so beautifully written!!! If you like Xiaolin Showdown, I recommend it. Plus, it also took stuff from Xiaolin Chronicles and made it bearable. Bless.

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why? Ahhh You Monster. It’s probably my best one. Even though it needs heavy editing haha.

47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why? I mean....Fanfiction.net is where it all began, but I never posted anything on it. I think AO3 is the best for posting fics and keeping track of them. But more people usually see it if I post it on my tumblr. So a mixture of those two?

48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not? For the longest time I didn’t because I had major anxiety!!! I was too nervous to leave a comment, no matter what. Plus, I didn’t really make accounts on either ffn or ao3 so I couldn’t have if I wanted to. But now I like leaving tags and stuff on people’s works on tumblr and (if I read more fic) I would leave comments, just because I want people to know they’re doing good work!!

49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not? Yeah, I mean, of course! I love seeing comments on all my work, art, writing, or otherwise! It’s just nice to know that someone liked something I made, especially if it’s something I’m self-conscious about like I am with writing. And reblogs help spread it around so it can get more attention, so that’s always helpful!
