AITA for not letting my brother (25M) use my mom car.

Sorry, not an english speaker so maybe weird grammar.

I (29F) honestly thing i might be TA here but let me kinda justify myself.

My brother wanted to use my mother's car for delivery (think Uberfood) and I vehemently disagree as it is the only car in the household.

For context, my brother has a history of, let say, fucking up. But the biggest fuck up is when he crashed my mom's friend car which I cited as protest. It is also the reason why we're in debt and why there's only one car.

So, our car had to go into service, so we didnt have any transportation to go to work. So my mom friend generously loaned her second car for the week. My brother was back from his overseas work and were staying with us.

He persuaded my mom to let him use the car for the evening and my mom agreed as long as he come back that night. The next day rolled around and he isnt back, and I have to go to work. So we called him multiple times before he finally picked up and assured us he's coming back. 30 min later, another call.

He got in to an accident.

He had broke his nose and bruised his chest and arm, but he's fine. That's the good news.

Bad news he rammed into another car, wrecking both in the process. The other car driver was also fine, minor bruises and all that.

Alright fine, the insurance will cover 85% of it, its not the worst thing.

Worst news, my brother doesnt have his license.

Like i said, he's been working overseas and only comes back for two weeks leave every three months or so. The license renewal is every two years. He has had plenty of times to renew his license. Worst he had lied he had renewed his license. It was only after the other driver called the police did he admitted that he didnt renew his license.

So now, no insurance. We're now in 50k in debt.

I say we because my mom had to take out a loan to pay for his car wreck and because it ended up not being enough, I also end up taking out a loan. He couldnt do it because he has a criminal record so we had to. Also had to sell our car for a cheaper one because the loan bleed us dry

He promised he would pay us back for the loan as soon as he starts working again.

Less than six months later, he lost his job because it was a scamming scheme company.

Now he is back and he wants to start doing deliveries and I am not having it. I told him that he needs to look for a job that doesnt require him using the car as he has a motorcycle he can use. And he keeps bringing up the fact that using the car means he can get more deliveries done as it is more comfortable which means more income, and the fact that I cant even drive myself, so i shouldnt have an opinion.

(I cant drive due to physical disability. Its mild but my mom does have to drive me to work.)

Second Chances and Repeating Mistakes

Three episodes in and the second season of The CW's Kung Fu is already digging their own grave. And while I'm very happy that The CW trusts the show enough to renew it for another season--yes, we're getting a third season next year--I am also very scared about what the show is going to do next. And not the good kind of scared.

Last year, I wrote a series of Tumblr posts restructuring Kung Fu into a more cohesive show. And now it's not just bias talking. Going back to what I wrote? It was definitely better than what we got from the show. And it's because of one thing: I had a clear idea of what the show was supposed to be; that it was about a young woman who ran away from filial expectations only to realize that her strength lies in the family she left behind. Kung Fu, the CW show, didn't have that vision. They just wanted fight scenes and half-naked men.

All this said, I am still reserving my commentary on the actual season two episodes that have aired so far. What I'm going to do is refer back to what I wrote before; of the things I had hoped the show would do better because they had advance notice of renewal. Let's begin.

Hope #1: Better fight choreography. This gets a B for me. The fight scenes in the second season have improved over what we were given in season one--but it's really hard to judge for sure since most of them were done in the dark. But kudos must be given to them being snappier and more engaging.

Hope #2: A realistic relationship for Nicky and Henry. I would say this is also a B. From the episodes we've seen, they have the feel of a lived-in couple: the chemistry is good, the banter is good. I do think there's room for them to really explore more how different their relationship is now compared to before but I'm happy to say that I do like what the writers have done for this relationship so far.

Hope #3: Evan as an honorary Shen. I loved that Evan really is part of the Nicky Squad now, and that he and Henry are comfortable with each other. However, I do feel like he's still too far-removed from the Shens considering everything that happened in the first season. At the very least, he would've gotten an invite to the New Year's dinner. I give this a C+.

Hope #4: Exploring the Shens. I'm giving this one two grades: a B+ and an F. The B+ is because the show is finally giving us actual plots for the Shens: Mama Shen is embracing succeess, Papa Shen has that storyline with his friend who is now an UberFood person, Althea is figuring out her career, and Ryan has that love thing that's very awkward--but it is an actual storyline we can follow throughout the season. The only reason the first grade is a B+ is because the show is once again under-utilizing Dennis.

Now, the reason for the second grade, the F, is Mia: Mei-Xue's daughter. I was really hoping the show would ease her into the story--but instead they chose to just drop her in the Shen's laps only for her to run away as soon as she arrived. And the worst part? They made her "special" as the daughter of a warrior and a guardian without proper foreshadowing. Nothing about her storyline so far feels earned because the facts about her are being info-dumped on us as if they already mean something. News flash? They don't.

Hope #5: Friends of the Shens. I'm hesitant to give a grade here right away. Jin's friend has shown up in two episodes, but I don't trust the show enough not to expect him to get dropped soon. Ryan's new love interest is being slow-burned, so he could potentially be a friend first. But that doesn't change the fact that Ryan doesn't have other friends he could talk to about this. Yes he has sisters--but talking to friends is still a different thing. Come on, Kung Fu, these friends don't have to be regulars. Give some struggling actors a chance to shine. Oh, and Althea didn't make a single friend at her new work place before she gave up on it. Althea is a great girl. Even at a company where everyone isn't as passionate as her, there would be someone who would enjoy her company. Who would become her friend. What do you have against friend characters, Kung Fu? Sounding boards are important in visual mediums! I've made up my mind: the grade for this is also an F.

Hope #6: Bian-ge. The first season ended with the promise that Bian-Ge is everywhere. And has not been mentioned since. Grade: F.

Hope #7: Exploration of other Asian communities. So far, we only have Sebastian. Who may or may not be Chinese. The actor is Filipino though. We'll see where this goes. I'm reserving the grade for this one.

Hope #8: For the show to hire researchers and a writing assistant. And for the writers' room to discuss with the cast what their character journeys will be. With the latter, we are getting a more rounded portrayal from the cast now. I don't know if that's because they're on the same page with the writers because it could just be the actors taking ownership of their roles. But with the former... I know I'm not Asian-American. I don't know how traditions have evolved in the US. But we do not have New Year's eve dinners. So when they had a family dinner in the season premiere, I took that as the end of the Lunar New Year. Especially since Mei-Li had a line saying it's the family's first time to be complete on a New Year since Nicky running away. And then, in the second episode, the Lunar New Year celebrations played an important part in the plot. So... it's either someone didn't do some research, or someone in the writing room messed up. Tsk tsk.

Honestly, seeing the poster for Season 2 felt like an omen. The tagline: "Old Enemies. New Legends." is not a great promise. Especially since the enemies and legends of the first season were the weak links of the show. Season 1 Zhi-Lan never felt like a threat because she and Kerwin were either boning all the time, or Zhi-Lan was shown to be comically over-powered. And Russel Tan was just a rich bogeyman who shows up and runs away in a matter of minutes. And the legend from the first season was so badly info-dumped that they didn't really make any impact. Except when the writers wanted Nicky to do stuff. And even then... It wasn't great.

If they wanted people to tune in to the second season, they could've promised something better. Like, a bad example: "battles are harder when you're fighting family." Or, "New family. New troubles." Or, "Old Secrets. New Problems." Anything else, really.

*Sigh.*

I love the idea of a bike-sharing community, like obike and moobike, but there are so many things that I would like to change about it.

S Substitute

How about substituting the mobile app and QR code for the activation of the bike with something simpler, like an ez-link card? Not sure if it will be more expensive, but it is one way that will allow bike sharing to people without a smart phone, or people like me whose phone is always on low batt.

C Combine How about having scooters as well, rather than just bicycles? Bicycles require more parking space, and it is easier to transport scooters than bicycles.

A Adapt

The biggest issue with bike sharing is that bicycles are often parked at random places. There should be bicycle stations where the bicycles must be parked, or the meter will continue to run. This has been done in taiwan, where you can only park and borrow the bicycles at designated locations. If not, bicycles are connected with a GPS system, and it should only allow the user to stop its meter when the bicycle is at the designated parking area.  M Modify Add an additional rider for the bicycles. Let there be more Tandem bikes.

P Purpose (Put to other use) The purpose of bicycle sharing is that people have a more convenient way of travelling, or people can use it for recreational purposes. How about using bicycle sharing as a game, by adding a treasure hunting game to the mobile sharing app which will add an additional form of recreation.

E Eliminate Remove the QR code and the mobile app. Make it like a coin system, where people can rent the bicycles by just inserting a coin. Similar concept as renting a trolley from the super market.

R Reverse

Instead of pay as u use, make it a membership with membership fee. 

R Rearrange

Some people rent the bicycles to get to a nearby store to get something. Perhaps can do it like uberfood or foodpanda, where the person can rent a person on a bicycle who will get the items for u.
