The 90 meter long, 3881 dwt tanker Houn Maru allided with a bridge over Osaka Bay near the Kansai International Airport, Osaka, Japan. The Houn Maru had been at anchor when it was swept by gale force winds from Typhoon Jebi.  The tanker’s anchor dragged until the Houn Maru struck the bridge with extreme force.  The vessel’s superstructure struck into the road deck crushing its starboard side. The tanker’s hull sustained multiple breaches and water ingress which flooded the engine room.
Authorities were able to safely evacuate all 11 crew on board the Houn Maru.  No reports of injuries.  Reports state the Houn Maru had no cargo on board and no reports yet of any pollution released.
One section of the 3700 meter long bridge sustained severe damage shifting it several meters off its pier.  Authorities have stated the amount of damage to the bridge makes it unsafe for traffic.  Authorities state is will be at least several weeks before repairs can be completed.

Typhoon Jebi
The most powerful typhoon in 25 years has hit Japan, and is perfectly in line with the airport that I’m supposed to be arriving at on Thursday morning. Hopefully all will be okay, but I’ve seen some pretty scary videos on it. I might either be stranded in Amsterdam (my connecting flight from the UK) or stuck in a flooded airport once I reach Japan, with no way out *as far as I’m aware* until the typhoon passes and the roads are reopened.

I believe one person has died as a result of the typhoon and several have been injured. I just hope that it doesn’t claim any more lives..

I'm back from Japan!
My trip was extended because of a typhoon. Best thoughts and wishes to those affected more significantly by it.
Other than that I had an amazing time. I ate a lot, saw a lot, and bought a lot. Most importantly though, I laughed and smiled lots and lots and made some fantastic memories with my friends.
Hope you all are doing great! It's nice to be back!

Not to make light of Typhoon Jebi, but this just happened on the news.
News reporter: I’m looking outside, and it seems really hard to walk out there! *Camera zooms in on trees shaking around violently, then zooms back out*
Man: *Goes barreling past the camera in business attire, no umbrella or poncho in sight, doing the Naruto Run*
News reporter:
News reporter: ....Back to you in the studio.

Major storms aside, the cherry blossoms in Japan are blooming earlier now than they have in 1,200 years of recorded data, a fact that scientists generally attribute to warmer temperatures.[...]
Weathernews, a weather site in Japan, said it had received more than 350 reports this week of emerging cherry blossoms, which typically attract tourists from around the globe in April, when they usually appear.
With few exceptions, the picturesque pink flowers don’t reveal themselves in the fall. But Hiroyuki Wada, an arborist for the Flower Association of Japan, told the public broadcaster NHK that extreme weather had stripped the trees of leaves, which produce a hormone that inhibits the buds from growing. In September, Japan was walloped by Typhoon Jebi, its strongest storm in 25 years.
“This year’s storms affected wide regions, and the strong winds may have caused the blooming,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Japan’s deadly summer grinds on with ‘worst typhoon in 25 years’
By Simon Denyer, Washington Post, September 4, 2018
TOKYO--Japan advised more than a million people to evacuate their homes Tuesday and canceled hundreds of flights as the west coast was hit with high winds and heavy rain in what was described as the worst typhoon in 25 years.
Typhoon Jebi, whose name means swallow in Korean, is the latest spate of record-breaking, deadly weather patterns to hit the island nation this summer, after historic floods, landslides, and a heat wave killed at least 300 people.
The heatwave in Japan this summer was part of a pattern of hotter weather in several parts of the world that scientists have blamed on a warming planet.
Japan will be hoping for cooler, calmer when it hosts the Olympic Games in the summer of 2020.
Kyodo News said Jebi was the strongest typhoon to make landfall since 1993, while NHK public television said tides in some areas were the highest since a typhoon in 1961.
The typhoon first made landfall on the island of Shikoku, where wind gusts of up to 129 mph were recorded. Around 3.9 inches of rain drenched one part of the tourist city of Kyoto in an hour, the Associated Press reported, with as much as 20 inches set to fall in some areas in the 24 hours to noon on Wednesday.
More than 700 flights were canceled, according to Japanese media, while the Shinkansen bullet train services between Tokyo and Hiroshima was also suspended.
In Osaka, the Universal Studios Japan amusement park and U.S. Consulate were both closed, agencies reported. The airport, which is built on an artificial island, had one of its runways flooded along with a terminal building. A tanker accident on the bridge leading to the airport then caused it to close down entirely.
More than 175,000 people lost power in western Japan, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said, while more than a million people were advised to leave their homes by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said.

Does not appear to be hitting Tokyo.
But be very careful if you happen to be in Osaka or the surrounding area.

[Random] We have a N Down! Send for Backup! (Typhoon Jebi leaves its Mark on Nintendo)
Considering we normally avoid weather related news, there’s no avoiding covering this one!
During its pass through Kyoto, Typhoon Jebi had a run in with Nintendo’s HQ and made off with one of the N’s.  That isn’t the only affect the typhoon had on the Big N though, as Nintendo have also had to close off their both their online and telephone support, for those in Japan. A picture of post-typhoon N…

Typhoon Jebi : Scenes of devastation in Japan
Japan issued evacuation advisories for more than a million people and cancelled hundreds of flights as Typhoon Jebi sliced across the west, cutting power, overturning cars and killing at least six people. Jebi, or “swallow” in Korean, was briefly a super typhoon and is the most powerful storm to hit Japan in 25 years following rains, landslips, floods and record-breaking heat that killed hundreds of people this summer.
Television footage showed waves pounding the coastline, sheet metal tumbling across a parking lot, cars turned on their sides, dozens of used cars on fire at an exhibition area, and a big Ferris wheel spinning around in the strong wind. NHK and broadcaster TBS put the number of deaths at six. Tides in some areas were the highest since a typhoon in 1961, NHK said, with flooding covering one runway at Kansai airport near Osaka, forcing the closure of the airport and leaving about 3,000 tourists stranded. The strong winds and high tides sent a 2,591-tonne tanker crashing into a bridge connecting the airport, built on a man-made island in a bay, to the mainland. The bridge was damaged and closed, but none of the tanker’s crew was injured, the coast guard said.
