im not that picky w dramas because ive been watching national and international (mostly brazilian and argentinian) teleseries since i was born*
#this is also why dramatic classic anime adaptations such as saint seiya have such a huge following in latam#we're used to that level of drama so we can enjoy it wo thinking about it too much. suspension of disbelief etc realismo magico etcetc#**not exactly an exaggeration as the whole family watched teleseries when i was growing up#i remember being in first grade and getting into arguments w my friends cause their families watched teleseries from a different channel#back in the early 00s u were either a tvn or a canal 13 teleserie watcher#ginni stop talking

There's still some actual SANE fans atleast
Armys moving the way they are, don't realize that they're making the situation WORST than it already is.
Attacking the main Korean media outlets (Dispatch, Yonhap News, Newsen, ect) getting their social media accs banned/suspended isn't a flex either when you consider just how much POWER they have.
Go ahead, do your research and see why it is hard to silence the media when they're out to destroy someone. ALL of them are part of the "Golden Spoons" in society. These people are where they are BECAUSE THEY WERE CHOSEN TO BE IN THAT POSITION BY SOMEONE OF HIGHER SOCIAL STATUS (Diamond Spoons = the elite society of South Korea, the ones who have full control over the economy, the media, ect.. You don't become one, you have to BE BORN into that society).
I-armys can scream, boast and boycott all they want, but provoking the Korean media won't make them stop, if anything it'll only encourage them to hurt the boys further, especially Dispatch now that Hybe isnt paying for their silence like before. (this isn't TMZ, Rolling Stones, Billboard, The Newyork Times, ect which can be easily "persuaded" to change their views on the situation so it benefits them & they get more clout out of it).
Big name celebs, comedians and public figures are taking jabs at SG and cracking jokes about not drinking & driving on the daily.
TvN, one of the biggest/top channels in S.Korea, famous for all the kdramas being aired and high volume of viewers, already started blurring his face. And that in itself is HUGE, because it means that little by little the industry is blacklisting him. And the more problematic the western fans become in their "crusade to defend him" (something that is unnecessary since he already spoke up, owned up and apologized for his behavior. Not to mention that he accepted whatever punishment he's bound to receive as a result of this ordeal), the worst things they will keep doing to him until he is completely BLACK LISTED or worse and heaven forbid a tragedy comes out of this.
#this fandom will be the downfall of bts#i've been saying it since last year#bts#bangtan#and Jimin deserves a better fandom#pjms will always be here for him in whatever he chooses but the group fandom is in shambles#they really lost the plot

not to sound like an annoying karen, but i honestly, truly feel that netflix has fucked up the kdrama genre for good.
just 10-ish years ago, there were kdramas that the big 3 korean channels (SBS, MBC, KBS) would broadcast and then there were kdramas that the main cable channels (jTBC and tvN) would broadcast. and between those groupings, you got everything. you got 16-20 episodes of dramas that had heartfelt writing, filmed with bright colors, filmed with concise plots, that most of the time, ended WELL. you got a GOOD ending that was complete. the works felt authentically south korean. yes, there were cheesy tropes and moments that made you cringe, but it felt so real. and you had SO many kdramas airing during the week! you couldn't keep track of just how many!
cut to netflix coming in and making it big with kdramas with squid game and some romantic works and then suddenly they (and disney+) are making these short kdramas, less than 10 episodes, with generic filters, generic plots, and poorly written scripts that are just mere shadows of what kdramas used to be. they end shitty 90% of the time. and worst of all, they feel like american shows. and no, i don't mean sex scenes or action scenes because hey, i love change there, but i mean the entire VIBES are just off. they're not the kdramas i fell in love with, the ones that felt so human. and thanks to these big, foreign companies coming in, the main broadcast channels have basically shut down 1/2 their timeslots, and so many dramas aren't even getting aired these days.
yes times change progress is great robots will probably replace us all in a few years blah blah, but it's really depressing to me personally since i have such fond memories of the utter joy of kdramas, especially from the golden era of 2008-2017. and while there are some that escape the netflix!americanized! curse, it's unfortunately the majority that remain nothing but commercial puppets, rather than authentic entertainment.

Can I get something off my chest?I MISS THE OLD KDRAMAS LIKE HELL. I miss that time when writers gave us flawed characters with not so perfect lighting, and real people faces and ugly hair. City hall? My name is Kim Sam soon? Healer? Heartstrings? Princess Hours? Coffee prince? My princess? I especially miss SBS , MBC and KBS. You could understand which kdrama was produced by which channel from the lighting alone or the photography. I feel like TVN's dramas, while aesthetically pleasing, are for the Western audience and are so perfectly perfect.
Literally THIS anon!
I feel like an old lady saying things like "k-dramas were so much better before netflix took over" and "remember drama fever service?? SOB!," but I really miss my dramas and the wild range of them.
You want a specific kind of slice of life that takes risks without worrying about viewership? JTBC was your jam. Need something really low rent and old school? MBC!
Worried you can't find a k-drama? IMPOSSIBLE with both viki and drama fever! And the combined subscription was like $14 bucks a month.
Now I have to illegally watch 50% of my dramas, and pay netflix AND disney so they can cast the same huge stars with disappointing endings (I'm NOT looking at you Run On, you were a gift). Because these streaming giants only care about growth, after they screwed up the k-drama eco-system, there's literally nothing on. I went from struggling to keep up with all of the new releases to only watching 2. Finally, Viki doesn't really get many good dramas anymore because they can't afford to buy them, and lots of actors are struggling to find work.
As a side note, everyone should just give up and watch No Gain No Love. Is it miraculous? NO. Is it shiny and glossy like anon is complaining about? YES. But is it old school cute? You bet aside from the horrid Amazon Prime interface.
And speaking of interfaces--
---PULLS SHANA OFF THE STAGE WITH A CANE---
#this is all true#and i'll die on this hill#kdrama#everything gets ruined by exponential growth models#no gain no love#ask#lovely anon

Subject: Request for Media Coverage on Cyberbullying Incident in the K-Pop Industry
Dear [News Channel Name],
I am writing to request your support in covering a critical issue currently unfolding in the K-pop industry that highlights the growing problem of cyberbullying and its severe impact on artists. Recently, Seunghan, a member of the popular K-pop group RIIZE, was forced to leave his group after facing intense harassment from anti-fans.
Seunghan had initially been placed on a 10-month hiatus following the leak of his private photos, just two months after his debut. When SM Entertainment, his management company, announced his return on October 11, 2024, anti-fans responded with online death threats and even sent funeral wreaths to the company headquarters, demanding his removal. Instead of defending their artist and protecting his privacy, SM Entertainment succumbed to the pressure, leading to Seunghan’s departure from the group.
This decision raises serious concerns about the company's professionalism as it encourages cyberbullying and toxic fan behavior without any consequences. In response, Seunghan’s fans launched a petition on Change.org calling for his reinstatement, which gained 63,705 signatures in just 8 hours. Fans from other fandoms have also expressed their solidarity on social media in hopes that no artist will have to face such mistreatment from both anti-fans and their management in the future.
We kindly request your support in broadcasting this important issue on your news channel to raise awareness and help combat the growing culture of online harassment and bullying. By highlighting this situation, we hope to contribute to a larger conversation about the responsibilities of entertainment companies in protecting their artists.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We believe your platform can play a significant role in addressing this critical issue, and we would be grateful for your support in raising awareness.

one of the dramas I've been watching lately (title: Perfect Marriage Revenge) is such a banger that I think it would've been such a huge, HUUUUGE hit if only it was given a bigger production budget and picked up by an international streamer. like yeah it's your run of the mill revenge plot with a side of romcom filled with characters that are cartoonish even, but they did all the cliché stuff incredibly well, so you really get your blood boiling at the villains and it feels soooo good and satisfying everytime the main characters one-up them.
the only slight problem really is that the whole production looks like it was filmed 10+ yrs ago and you can tell the entire thing from the sets to the wardrobe have been skimped on, especially when compared to primetime dramas by big channels like tvN, KBS, SBS or streamers like Netflix and Disney+ these days.
I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would though, because I'm genuinely enjoying every minute of the heroine (Yi Joo) and her man crushing to a pulp all the garbage-disgusing-as-people who fucked her over and would probably do so till this drama finally ends.
(also it doesn't hurt that the two of them look good together scheming and plotting their way to a happy ending soooo 🤧)
p.s. Han Yoo Ra, Lee Jung Hye, and Seo Jung Wook...D!3 YOU NASTY SKANK BITCHES, D!3!!! AND LEAVE MY COUPLE ALONE!!! OR I WILL PERSONALLY CRAWL INTO MY SCREEN AND PUT A PILLOW ON YOUR FACES WHILE YOU'RE SLEEPING YOU SMELLY PATHETIC ASS LOSERS

It's been a while in kdramaland where I watch an episode and A) I don't realise the length and time is up at the end and B) I'm desperately wating for Friday and Saturday.
But When the Phone Rings does that. Part of me thinks it's a shame its not on a cable channel like TVN or JTBC because we could get longer episodes like CLOY did. And I could watch a lot of Saeon and Heejoo's foreplay. But then I feel we might get unnecessary filler.
In terms of the feel and style, When the Phone Rings kinda falls in the same category as Perfect Marriage Revenge - even though that kind of lost its way - not massively it just struggled to keep its momentum that the first half had. I hope When the Phone Rings keeps it up. But then tension and fucked up family dramas and relationship remind me of the fucked up dramas in Perfect Marriage Revenge which is why I'm kinda grouping them.
Yes yes yes - the last time I fell this hard and fast for a kdrama was with PMR - which I agree did fall off in second half which I liked but not with the same degree of obsession. And also agree that this and PMR despite different characters and plot have something in common. Maybe it’s the fact that they commit and none of that “too cool for school” vibe some recent kdramas give me. It’s deliciously old school!
And also I love love love that we have actual adults in this. None of that cutesy teen or early 20s stuff. Nothing wrong with it but I am so not the audience for it.
These are some delicious fucked up adults.

Which is my favorite Kdrama network?
When I'm bored I like to list and categorize things. Today I've decided to discover, statistically, which Korean drama network is my favorite based on shows I've watched.
Including both shows I've completed and shows I've dropped bc in this case, the shows I don't like are relevant.
Using my ratings from MyDramaList :) which means however I felt the first time I finished watching a show, basically. Not including networks where I've only watched one show (e.g., Disney+, Wavve, Channel A).
JTBC:
Agency--Dropped
Beyond Evil--6
Itaewon Class--Dropped
My Country the New Age--10
Private Lives--Dropped
Reflection of You--Dropped
Sisyphus: The Myth--Dropped
I can't believe this network produced My Country the New Age when everything else I've watched by them has been a flop for me. Beyond Evil came the closest to breaking the curse but even then. Itaewon Class is one of my least favorite shows I've ever tried to watch; I've forgotten most of the details now but a bad taste lingers.
KBS:
White Christmas--10
Mad Dog--8
The King's Affection--10
River Where the Moon Rises--Dropped
Should I have given River Where the Moon Rises more of a chance? Bc apparently this network only makes bangers.
MBC:
Extraordinary You--7
Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung--9
The Veil--7
Idk what to say about this one. RHGH is pretty damn good but I think I would probs like it less watching it now than I did in 2019, newish to kdramas and ready to love anything. But it's a fave regardless, and Extraordinary You and The Veil are both fairly watchable. A serviceable network.
MBN:
Perfect Marriage Revenge--Dropped
Sponsor--Dropped
A network to watch a few episodes with the desire to see dogblood plots, and then leave.
Netflix:
Bloodhounds--8
My Holo Love--Dropped
Gyeongseong Creature--Dropped
Song of Bandits--8
The Silent Sea--7
It's Netflix. I don't know that they're ever going to make a real favorite for me but they're fairly competent.
OCN:
Save Me--8
Duel--Dropped
A Superior Day--Dropped
Apparently it takes Seo Ye-ji and Woo Do-hwan's powers combined to make me finish a show by this network. You'd think it would be easier bc they seem to enjoy angst and whump, but I think they pour it on a little too thick.
SBS:
Doctor Stranger--Dropped
Lovers of the Red Sky--8
Revenant--9
The King: Eternal Monarch--7
The Killing Vote--Dropped
Remember: War of the Son--Dropped
Honestly I might come back to at least one of these dropped shows. Their track record on plots is okay, but their actors are really good.
TVN:
100 Days My Prince--Dropped
Alchemy of Souls--9
Bad and Crazy--Dropped
Circle: Two Worlds Connected--9
Confession--6
Devil Judge--9
Eve--8
Flower of Evil--10
Hotel del Luna--Dropped
It's Okay to Not Be Okay--8
Mine--8
Mr. Sunshine--8
Our Blooming Youth--Dropped
Pandora: Beneath the Paradise--Dropped
Psychopath Diary--9
Tale of the Nine-Tailed--Dropped
Clearly I just start the most show by them. Do they make the most shows? I don't know. Good concepts and good cinematic quality on most of these shows, with just a few exceptions. Pretty solid network.
Viki:
Color Rush--8
I Picked Up a Star On the Road--6
Where Your Eyes Linger--8
You Make Me Dance--6
Mixed bag.
The takeaways:
I should probably watch more KBS. On my to-watch list, that translates to Youth of May, the Bridal Mask, Hwarang, the Bloody Heart, and Orange Marmalade. So mostly historical dramas, which is a pity bc apparently I also like their thrillers.
Really, though, my to-watch list at this point has a ton of SBS and MBC on it for some reason, at least with shows that have already come out. According to my stats so far, my odds are pretty mixed on liking them or not.
Somehow, one feels, I will actually end up watching more TVN instead... but that has yet to materialize. (except the one kdrama I'm currently watching is a TVN drama. so.)
Did I really learn anything? No. and on that note, good night.

1, 2, and 5 for the toku asks!
1. How did I get into Toku?
I watched a lot of Power Rangers as a kid and just in general a lot of shows that were made first in Japan and then came to America which I think was super common for people my age and older to do given the general boom in anime and Japanese shows being translated and brought over to expand markets. But like a lot of people I imagine, found a bunch of toy review channels with cool toys that weren't brought to America yet with music and songs and even full episodes and movies that were subbed by TVN and just available super easily. I watched a lot of episode previews and the boukenger sentai history sections like an addict and even watched the Boukenger vs movies with like no context just because it was awesome and in a way I think toku helped me to read. I dont remember how I learned how to read but I remember toku being the reason I ended up reading more and could read faster cause I needed to be in time with the subtitles. I still remember sitting down and basically drawing out a terrible comic strip explaining everything that happened in Geki vs Bouken for a first grade assignment or something. I watched Shinkenger and Goseiger week to week in elementary school along with stuff like Digimon Xros Wars and Hunters. Definitely a ridiculously long answer but I don't think the last time I answered this I was as thorough as I wanted to be. I can still remember waiting ages for shinken vs go on and gosei vs shinken and even the shinken summer movie even if I didn't fully understand it then, it was definitely something that I think I dont want to forget
2. First show I watched
This is a bit of a hard answer cause I can't fully remember what show was technically first for me. Excluding Power Rangers, I think Shinkenger was the season I watched first that was week to week but I can't remember if I watched all of it week to week or if I forgot and dropped it. I know I did start goseiger from the beginning but stopped halfway through. It was the episode Eri was making her own cards as a wish I believe. Then I took a break and then Toqger was the first sentai I do truly remember watching front to back week to week with no stops. There were a lot of seasons I also watched in between and overall its kind of all over the place for me but yeah. Anything from bouken-gosei is a fairly good answer tbh. I remember watching clips from those the most.
5. Favorite main hero
THIS IS SOOOO HARD FOR MEEEEE UUHHHHHHHH..... HMMM......
I'll give three for sentai and rider
Sentai:
Toqgers cast is impeccable and strike a chord deep inside of me that I haven't been able to ever shake off which has made me so happy.
King Ohger for all its flaws made a cast of six that made me so sick in the head that I actually could not stop crying the last three episodes of the show and for that I need to put them on this list
There's a lot of teams so it's hard to choose a third when SO MANY mean a lot to me and this does not mean I love any team I didn't mention any less its just hard for me to choose. But megarangers leads are all so sweet and genuine to me and I want to see more of them so bad and usually think a lot about them in my own silly little headcannons
Rider:
This is kind of easier I think so yeah
EIJI MY BOY HAPPY BIRTHDAY I LOVE YOU SO MUCH EIJIIIIIII
EMUUUUUU MY BOYYYYYY I LOVE YOUUUUUU. GASHATOO AND ETC I LOVE YOU AND YOURE STUPID REPRESSED COWORKERSSSSSSS
Finding a third is once again difficult cause I love so many of them but most likely my goat my king my absolute bestie who reminds me to follow my dreams and keep dreaming ICHINOSE HOUTAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOO MUCHHHHH

QOT: the highest rated tvn drama ever
Fans: Loved the story of a married couple getting back together and the amazing acting and chemistry by the main actors and thought the writing turned to sh*t
Tvn all every other channel: Oh they love makjang and nonsensical storytelling let's give them so much more
wdym you didn't love watching eunseong and his momma's oedipus complex scenes :(
(this is so deeply funny like sfkjsjdflks i know the writer has more say but tvN and the producers should've been like PJE shut up and write a baekhong kiss scene right now)

watching reply 1997 in real time was an Experience™ like it was a small show with hardly renowed for their acting idols being the leads suddenly getting so popular it broke viewership records. everyone was having theories on who the fuck is the husband 😭 couple more impactful shows like misaeng happened and suddenly tvn became the channel people tuned in to watch a drama. i need romance series (fuck season 1 ending btw), nine (fuck that guy btw), queen in-hyun's man, marriage not dating... all good dramas that aired on a channel that wouldn't break 2% in viewership
