Vào tháng 11/2020, một người phụ nữ đã tình cờ cứu được tính mạng của một bé gái khỏi tay kẻ bắt cóc nhờ vào linh tính nhanh nhạy của chính mình. Thời điểm đó, người phụ nữ (giấu tên) đang đi ngang qua một con hẻm thuộc khu vực Mitcham, phía Nam London, Anh, thì nhìn thấy một người đàn ông có biểu hiện lạ đi cùng một bé gái. Khi vừa nhìn thấy người phụ nữ, gã kia đã vội vã đưa bé gái rời đi.

Người phụ nữ đuổi theo gã đàn ông có biểu hiện lạ đi cùng một bé gái, nhờ đó mà cứu được tính mạng đứa trẻ.

Chuyện sẽ không có gì đáng nói nếu như người phụ nữ kia không nhìn thấy bàn tay gã đàn ông đặt trên miệng bé gái. Thế là linh tính mách bảo cô có chuyện gì đó chẳng lành nên đã lập tức chạy theo, vừa chạy vừa yêu cầu người đàn ông kia buông đứa trẻ ra. "Anh đang làm gì con bé vậy?" thì nhận được câu trả lời của đối phương: "Đây là em gái tôi".

"Vậy thì anh đã làm gì với cô bé trong con hẻm lúc nãy?" - người phụ nữ tiếp tục hỏi tới thì bị gã đàn ông kia bắt bẻ vì sao cô lại theo dõi hắn. Mãi đến khi bị đuổi kịp thì tên ấy mới buông đứa trẻ ra và chạy đi.

Đoạn clip kết thúc khi người phụ nữ hỏi đứa trẻ rằng em có ổn không. Khó có thể xác định được cảm xúc của bé gái thông qua đoạn clip nhưng rõ ràng là đứa trẻ ấy đang rất hoảng sợ.

Đoạn clip này sau đó được chị gái của người phụ nữ đăng tải trên mạng xã hội với dòng chú thích: "Em gái tôi chứng kiến một gã đàn ông bắt cóc bé gái khi đứa trẻ đang đi đến trường. Em ấy để ý tên bắt cóc dùng tay bịt miệng nạn nhân khi cả hai đi trên đường Pitcairn và có nhiều biểu hiện lạ. Khi đó, em gái đã báo cho mẹ và em gái khác của tôi để gọi cảnh sát trong khi em thì chạy theo để chặn gã đàn ông kia lại".

Sau khi sự việc được truyền thông đưa tin rộng rãi, người dân địa phương cũng vào cuộc tự mình điều tra danh tính của kẻ bắt cóc. Tuy nhiên, cảnh sát yêu cầu họ ngừng phỏng đoán để không gây ảnh hưởng đến quá trình điều tra.

Cuối ngày hôm xảy ra vụ việc, cảnh sát đã bắt giữ được người đàn ông có ý định bắt cóc bé gái, hắn tên là Kadian O Nelson. Mức án phạt dành cho tên này không được truyền thông đưa tin nhưng đoạn clip trên cũng là lời cảnh báo dành cho các bậc phụ huynh cần chú ý bảo vệ con trẻ của mình hơn.

The Sydney Advanced Screening of ‘Top of the Lake: China Girl’ starring Elisabeth Moss, Gwendoline Christie & Nicole Kidman with [Writer & Director] Jane Campion is tonight - Tuesday, 1st August at the Sydney Opera House. Here's a quick review of Season 1 of 'Top of the Lake'; there are spoilers but I won't give away the ending!! The story revolves around Sydney Police Detective Robin Griffin, who has returned to Laketop [near Queenstown in NZ] to support her mum suffering from another bout of cancer. Robin has avoided returning home since the trauma of a gang-rape by 4 local men after her school formal when she was just a 15yo. After falling pregnant, her Catholic mother forced her to give up her daughter for adoption - leaving Robin with deep emotional scars. Running concurrently is the story of 12yo Tui Mitcham who is rescued after trying to drown herself; the discovery of her pregnancy is complicated since she has no idea who the father is or how she even got pregnant. Robin is seconded by the Southern Lakes Police to look into Tui's case but her investigation is hindered by the misogynistic & incompetent cops that work there - led by the sleazy Detective Sergeant Al Parker. After running away from home, Tui visits a community of women staying at 'Paradise' led by the Svengali-like GJ before going missing; as Robin searches for Tui, she investigates the long list of potential fathers to Tui's baby, including Tui's own father [Matt, the local drug dealer that controls the town] & her 3 half-brothers - one of whom [Johnno] is Robin's ex-boyfriend that she then rekindles a sexual relationship with. Add to the mix another under-age local girl who was hit by a car & you know that all is not right in the town of Laketop, especially when the girl's autopsy revealed traces of cocaine in her vagina. The steady pace of the show is rocked by the sudden & heart-wrenching death of one character. I wasn't convinced who the father ended up being as it proved too convenient - especially considering another shocking [yet not unexpected] discovery that Robin makes at the very end. Jane Campion's writing & direction was brilliant. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 /5. © (at Queenstown, New Zealand)

28. Top Of The Lake

Who was the man who did this to you? No one

Top Of The Lake was a haunting mini-series. It was perfectly acted and beautifully filmed but that I have trouble recommending because of the grim subject matter. At its most basic it is a mystery, who raped the young Tui and who is the father of her unborn child? But there is something much more sinister than even the rape of a young girl rather there is a darkness in the community and once Robin (played brilliantly by Elisabeth Moss) uncovers the truth well it leaves you really unsettled.

This isn't just about the one terrible act that happened to Tui, it is about the nightmare Robin faced as a teenager, it is about the patriarchal society both Tui and Robin live in. The ending left me feeling sick because the more I thought about what has happened the more I realised just how much the town and its people had covered things up or looked the other way. More chilling than any horror series I watched this year.

There was an entire subplot involving Holly Hunter's all female hippy commune which didn't go far story wise but it did add in another element of what it means to be a woman in a man's world and how for all her mysterious words of wisdom GJ the only way things can change is for someone to challenge what is happening all around them.
