Yoichi and All For One are IDENTICAL TWINS (and what it means...)

Okay, I know this acc has kinda been dead for over a year or two by now and I haven't exactly caught up with MHA, I only started reading the last 3-4 chapters, and I wasn't planning to revive this acc after being inactive for so long, but I discovered something that I CAN'T keep quiet about.

In the newest chapter, further detail on Yoichi and AFO's backstory is revealed (Yes! The chapter I've been waiting for!), and surprisingly, AFO and Yoichi are TWINS! I think very few people really thought of the concept, so it was unexpected in general.

I assumed they're fraternal twins, because while they're twins, the anime showed them having different eye colors... (Yoichi has green eyes and AFO has red eyes)

...Until I realised that isn't actually possible.

Because TTTS (twin to twin transfusion), can only occur in IDENTICAL TWINS.

In other words, yes, Yoichi and AFO aren't just twins, they're IDENTICAL TWINS. Anime may be wrong about eye colors again (like how they were for Iida's).

And while it's both unexpected and funny to think about all this (I mean, c'mon, that means Yoichi could've had the exact same face as his brother-), a lot of people may have missed the very BIG implication that this has.

Remember, identical twins share the exact same genetic makeup. After all, they are basically what should've been one person but got split into two somewhere in the early process.

But aren't y'all forgetting...

...that QUIRKS are also genetic?

If AFO and Yoichi are identical twins the entire time, with the EXACT SAME GENETICS, then that would mean that the quirks they have, would be identical as well. Because quirks are also genetic.

All For One and One For All are the SAME QUIRK by nature.

You may be wondering, "if they're the same quirk, why do they seem to function differently?" Yes, OFA can pass itself on, AFO can't, etc.

Well, while they are identical twins, they did suffer through TTTS, with Yoichi as the donor twin.

This probably messed a lot with Yoichi's development, and thus, his quirk. After all, while identical twins, are well, identical, a lot of factors can change how their genetics are expressed (some are expressed more than others). TTTS would've been a big one for AFO and Yoichi.

Notice when looking at OFA's functions (minus the stockpile), it's a significantly weaker version of AFO? AFO can just take and give through close contact with another person. For the transfer to even work for Yoichi, he has to transfer through DNA (blood, or eating hair??), and the only way it can even store quirks if said person inherited the quirk and passed it on like hot potato. I wouldn't even be surprised if Yoichi's quirk could only story a certain number of quirks.

The functions of Yoichi's original quirk got so messed up, it had to evolve into being able to pass itself on for it to even function itself. So much so that literally no one realised he had a quirk, maybe even Yoichi himself until after his death.(Im in the camp that Yoichi died passing on the quirk and it was Kudou who discovered the transfer ability and made the plan to defeat AFO)

So yeah, Bakugo was correct about OFA being the same as AFO all along. Except he was wrong about it being due to AFO creating OFA. It's actually because the original quirk holders were identical twins, meaning the quirks they have would also be identical. But things happened, which caused the quirks to work differently from each other.

EDIT: As another addition to this post, this also explains why OFA and AFO are so intricately linked, that the two users can start seeing into the other's vestige realm. To the point that when they both come into contact, it merges their vestige plains into one. Or perhaps, it's actually two quirks temporarily merging into one.

Since identical twins are basically one split into two, then two identical quirks having contact with each other is the same as two merging back into one again.

Beltane - Part 7 It all starts -> here (incl prequel)

A 'little' later than Ji Ho and Jeb, Noxee, Saiwa and Jack at the campsite got up too. And when poor Jack stumbled out of the tent, he almost choked at the sight of his beloved Noxee! She's so hot! Saiwa: "Noxee! Have merci!" Noxee: "Aww, our poor baby! I'll change into something more 'appropriate' and make us some churros, how does that sound?" And then she vanished and Jack cursed under his breath for not having a grip on himself. He wanted her to stay like this, just for a little longer... He's barely even seen her properly! Time he gets back ingame so he can meet the Queen again! And Lou. Distracting himself from Kiyoshi is already working just fine, that's a good sign!

And while Noxee was making the churros (that's the only dish she is able to 'cook'), Saiwa and Jack wandered around the campsite. If it's not too draining for Ji Ho and Vlad to let them travel around in the Otherworld with the TTT (Teleporting TukTuk), they should come here more often. Saiwa even found the bunny again!

Saiwa: "He's so cute, quiet and soft. Just the opposite of Jack ;P " Jack: "You know, everything we talked about yesterday, about not being able to get rid of Kiyoshi because of that fated mates thing, me prospering and unlocking my Super Soldier abilities. All that stuff frightened and intimidated me beyond measure. But!"

Saiwa: "But what?" Jack: "But you, my precious friend, who is like a dearest brother to me, already unlocked my ability to decide to let myself not get hurt when others throw their meanness at me :3 " Saiwa: "..."

Noxee: "Aww how sweet! Hahaha yeah, it's been like that since you two met at the lab three years ago!" Jack: "Right you are. Three long years Saiwa accepted many hardships to poke and pester me. As if he had seen it coming that I was going to need it one day ^^ I never got upset!"

Jack: "And I'm very positive that I, the Super Soldier, will suceed in my quest to defy Kiyoshi's influence over me and heal!" Noxee: "I think you should better use your Super Soldier powers to run from Saiwa before he throws that bathtub at you hahaha!"

And then Jack ran 🏃 But I think he has a point. Saiwa is the only one who gets upset at Jack's antics and scolds him. But it never hurt Jack (erm at least mentally. He gets hurt physically from time to time when he's running from Saiwa ^^'). He can work with that.

They ran a lap around the lagoon and then breakfast was ready. Saiwa was still a bit upset. And it didn't make it any better that Jack suggested to try the I-don't-give-others-power-over-my-feelings method on himself hahaha! Noxee: "Babies, let's eat!"

Noxee made very special churros for her Babies! They are sparkling like crazy! Noxee: "Made with extra love by an extra Queen for my extra Babies <3 " Saiwa is lost in thought. He has to face Jeb again soon. And then they'd have to part again when they head back home to Tomarang. He doesn't know what's worse. And Jack wishes he could eat Noxee's churros more often - without Greg at that, too...

Even though they are not blood related, they are like a little, dysfunctional family 💖

So I'm a pretty big LotR fan. And I'm a pretty big fan of the movies. No, they're not perfect, but they're a really good adaptation and a truly masterful work of cinematic art. I've grown pretty familiar with the movies over the past 23 years (@_@) - and not just the movies themselves, but I also love learning all about how they were made. I've watched all the way through all the bonus material in the Extended Editions at least five times (and some of the more fun bits way more times than that XD). I've even watched all three movies with the cast commentary.

But you know what I've never done, not even at the height of my obsession when I had way more free time than I do now? I've never watched the movies with the other commentaries. It looks like there are three more commentaries, with different groups of various people on the crew, and for some reason I never got around to listening through them. I can't for the life of me think why - maybe I thought I already knew everything they'd talk about? maybe I somehow thought it would be boring??? - but today that changes!

I'm going to just jot down the main things that stick out to me that I didn't know before. I've gleaned a lot of BTS information and stories about these movies from various sources, so I'm not sure how long this will be, but I'm sure there will be some new things that jump out at me.

From the FotR writer/director commentary with Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh:

There was a draft of the script where they didn't have a prologue, and all the information about Sauron and the Ring and Gollum and everything was going to be in that conversation between Frodo and Gandalf @_@ Can you imagine? I mean, yeah, it would be more like the book, but At What Cost? (At the cost of several memes and short attention spans, that's what.)

Peter Jackson says he doesn't like magic or wizards in movies. Um...sir? Why the heck are you making fantasy movies then???

The location where they shot the Ford of Bruinen was a real ford that was used during the gold rush in New Zealand! Because New Zealand had a gold rush around the same time as the one in the U.S.!

Hugo Weaving actually did the voice of Isildur when he claims the Ring and says, "No." I have...questions.

Peter Jackson says the journey through Moria is the best sequence in the book, and Fran and Philippa say it's the best-written chapter. Interesting! I don't know what I would point to as the best-written chapter of FotR; I don't think I've ever thought of that (though I might say some of the best descriptions in this book are in Rivendell).

They said they might redo the Gollum scene in Moria to make him look more like he does in TTT. Uhhh...it's been 23 years, guys, where's my remaster? XD

The Frodo-Gandalf conversation in Moria (the "all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us" conversation) was done with forced perspective??? I never realized that! I thought they just had Elijah sit a little lower than Ian so their eyelines would be right! They totally look like they're looking into each other's eyes, but they're not! :O

The scene of the Fellowship mourning Gandalf outside Moria was filmed before Ian McKellan had even arrived in New Zealand! :O So they were all mourning and reacting to the death of someone they probably weren't even sure what he looked like yet!

Sean Bean was apparently the only one of the primary actors who had any experience with a sword? Or at least he had the most experience. Viggo had to do the Weathertop fight scene on his first day, when he'd never touched a sword before @_@

In Boromir's death scene, the words sung by the chorus in the background is an Elvish translation of Faramir's line "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." ;A;

At one point, they were going to have Frodo fighting off an Uruk-Hai before he goes into the boat??? They even shot some of the footage?! Thankfully, they realized that was completely the wrong way to go about his end to this movie; it needed to be an emotional climax, not an action scene, and Frodo's victory is over his own doubts and the Ring's influence on him, when he grasps the Ring and marches forward to continue on his Quest, alone if need be. Thank goodness they realized that before it was too late.

SEAN ASTIN WAS NOT UNDERWATER IN THE SHOT OF HIM DROWNING WHAAAAAT MIND BLOWN

The shot of Boromir's boat going over the edge of the waterfall was actually footage of a barrel going over the Niagara Falls, and they just used CG to replace the barrel with the boat O.O

Ramble time: Willow's Halloween Costume

Willow's Halloween costume always seemed strange to me, I dismissed it as Luz had told her about "human witches", and I didn't give it importance until I saw [this post] by @theprinceandthewitch

ANTI-HUNTLOW/PRO-HUNTCEDA/PRO-GUSNTER under the cut.

Willow's costume. As I said at first I thought it was just that Luz had explained about the human "witches" to Willow. And she had decided to try looking like one.

Then I saw the post mentioned before and realized that it was a representation of this image of Evelyn.

And that just feels…off. I mean, did they try to make willow look like Evelyn here to make a parallel between CalebXEvelyn and Huntlow? Because they didn't archieved it.

I mean…

Number 1: Couples costumes. We know that for Halloween Luz and Amity were dressed up as Azura and Hecate.

So…who Hunter had a matching Halloween costume with? No with Willow, but with Gus.

(And don't lie to me if Gus had 1 (one) year more, then half of the fandom shipped them. I mean, look at this, it's like he hands him a wedding ring. But, you know, no homo/s)

Anyway if they were trying to make a couple metaphor with the Willow costume… Well, they definitely haven't achieved it

Number 2: Willow's costume represents Evelyn, okay. But it's not the "real" Evelyn, it's a portrait of her seen through the eyes of witch hunters. This Evelyn is evil. And Willow wearing a costume to represent her…IDK, just rubs in the bad way

We also know that Evelyn was a good witch, not a bad one. And who represents a good witch in these Halloween costumes?

Yes, that's right, Luz in her Good Witch Azura costume.

LOTR Ask Game

How old were you when you were first introduced to LOTR?

Eight or nine. I'd read the Narnia books once or twice by then and had decided that reading LOTR was the next logical step. Only, I didn't have FOTR at the time and was too excited to start reading to wait to get it from the library, so I started with TTT, thinking that I'd be able to figure out what happened in FOTR (lol. lmao, even), and was just. so confused when some dude named Boromir died on page two and everyone started singing about him. I read it again at ten with FOTR and it made much more sense.

Favorite LOTR character?

Choosing a favorite feels like putting a gun to the head of my other faves, so have my top five: Eowyn, Faramir, Frodo, Merry, and Boromir.

Books or movies?

Books! I love the movies, but the books hit me on another level.

Which location in Middle Earth would you want to visit?

Ithilien, Rivendell, Lothlorien, Evendim, Dol Amroth...let me go on a Middle-earth road trip please.

Favorite movie?

ROTK. Its emotional beats hit perfectly. I'll never not cry during the Grey Havens scene.

Favorite scene?

I don't know if this means books or movies, but from the books (a non-exhaustive list because I can't choose just one): Frodo's decision to take the Ring, the hobbits meeting Gildor's folk, A Conspiracy Unmasked, Glorfindel's introduction, the lament for Boromir, Pippin seeing Faramir for the first time, Eowyn calling Aragorn out on his sexism, Eowyn and Merry killing the Witch-king, the entirety of "The Steward and the King chapter"....it goes on and on.

Favorite quote?

One among many favorites: "And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. Chapter 23: Blind Faith

She couldn't decide what to think, all the details she'd picked up on getting scrambled in her brain and her arms wrapped around herself feeling like they were keeping her together. Gary made the comment. The Kindest Power: How Midoriya might save Tenko

Originally, this post was supposed to be a response to another post about 411 (Yes, I'm late), about why Yoichi might be oddly calm when Shinomori was stolen. This post itself was also going to be more of a continuation of my previous post about the true nature of One For All and All For One.

But while thinking of this post, I may have went into a deep rabbit hole and uncovered the ending of My Hero Academia, how Midoriya might save Tenko and defeat All For One.

Okay, so buckle your seatbelts, this might be one of the craziest theories yet-

The other post by @shiroforest in which this post was going to be a response to was actually more of a DFO post. The usual, Yoichi hiding a secret that Midoriya has AFO or something.

I'd like to say that they may have been right. Well, half right. Midoriya DOES have All For One. Not in the way you might think.

One For All IS the same as All For One. I made this post all about this subject, that Yoichi and AFO were most likely identical twins, and since quirks are genetic, they were supposed to have the same quirk. But due to TTTS, Yoichi's quirk couldnt develop properly, thus manifesting differently from All For One

ThIs seems to have aged really well in the following chapter:

Essentially, Yoichi's quirk was just a half-baked version of All For One. It also explains why it was able to merge easily with an entirely different quirk (Stockpile). Since Yoichi's quirk was half-baked and incomplete, it was much easier for it to adapt and merge into another quirk entirely (If Yoichi's quirk was fully formed, it would've stayed seperate)

Okay, so OFA was AFO but incomplete. How does this factor in with that panel of Yoichi, or MHA's endgame?

Well, it was incomplete.

This started changing 200 chapters ago. Where, according to Banjo, it started growing. The metaphor used is very interesting now we know OFA's circumstances.

Apparently in the original Japanese text, the metaphor used is just like an unborn child, growing and kicking in the womb.

And we know that OFA was underdeveloped because Yoichi was deprived of the nutrients to fully mature before birth.

OFA, from the beginning of Ch 193, has actually resumed its development process. Finishing off where it left off, and started growing as it matured.

The time it made contact with All For One in ch 287 must've quickened the process. After that event, the OFA Users managed to finally come out and communicate with Midoriya directly.

Remember what I said about how OFA was supposed to be the same as AFO, just halted during the development process?

Yes, you heard me right.

Midoriya and Shigaraki are fighting with the same quirk right now.

Horikoshi likes to put double meaning in his panels. If a speech bubble is displayed on an unrelated character, that means Horikoshi wants us to see a connection with what's being said to this other character

Yoichi is looking at his hand, which is actually also the exact same hand in which he passed on OFA to Kudo before his death. His power of giving, juxtaposed with the mention of the power of stealing by En.

There is a chance that Yoichi might've been thinking about what to do with the situation, he could be thinking of taking Shinomori back, or just speculating about what he can really do. Either way, it's actually foreshadowing. That Yoichi might be able to take just as much as give.

Perhaps, at this point of the story, One For All is already fully complete. Because Midoriya can now seemingly just throw or give away the quirks stored in OFA the exact same way AFO can give away quirks in his disposal as of the newest chapter, ch 413. Without the old complicated process beforehand of consuming DNA or something. (Watch this age horribly next chapter, but I think that's what will happen)

The only thing that's missing now is the trigger. All thats left is for Midoriya to instinctively think of "taking" to trigger the ability at this point.

But what would trigger Midoriya into taking?

Perhaps, to save a life.

I think it's clear that Horikoshi is currently using quirks as a representation for a person's heart and soul. After all, they are also called "individuality".

Even though AFO uses his power in cruel ways, Yoichi says that the power to "give and take" could have been the "kindest" power in the whole world. He's referring to both here, "taking" can be just as kind as "giving".

Maybe this power can save just as much as destroy.

As of Ch 413, Kudo makes a plan with Midoriya to basically fire OFA's quirks at Shigaraki to free Tenko Shimura, the child.

But what happens when Tenko is free? There is a chance he might be vulnerable to AFO (his abuser) and Tomura Shigaraki (the two are constantly seperated in the narrative)

Both might want to destroy Tenko, especially the former. Midoriya, out of desperation to try and save the crying child, might unlock OFA's "taking" ability, getting the child away from AFO's grasp. This probs has to happen right before Midoriya gets ready to throw One For All.

I think this might also be the part where the door of OFA gets unlocked. It's a back-door, a way in and out. The hand in which Tomura grabbed the Shinomori was OVER where the door is supposed to be.

When Midoriya unlocks the ability to take, the door might be opened in which Midoriya and maybe even Yoichi save Tenko and bring him into the OFA space.

Rather than a forceful "take" like AFO does, it's presented as a choice. Tenko is given the choice in which he can come with Midoriya or stay where he is now. Because saving is a two way street.

Since heart = quirk, having Tenko might also take away Decay, which would also prevent the incoming mass destruction.

(Make this more heartbreaking if Nana was already taken at this point by AFO, and she's the one trying to protect Tenko long enough till Midoriya and Yoichi take him away. They also try to save Nana but are unable to, Nana apologising for not being there for Tenko and asks them to take care of her grandson, argghhh-)

Here's a scenario of how I think it might all go down:

When Tenko is saved, this leaves Midoriya vs AFO and Tomura, desperate to get Decay back and OFA. Midoriya desperately tries to defend Tenko. Tenko, now in the OFA space, sees Midoriya's genuine desire to protect him, something he was desperate wished for.

This eventually fails, and ShigarAFO gets the opportunity to steal OFA and Tenko a few times, perhaps losing the remaining vestiges until only Yoichi and Tenko are left. Finally having enough, Tenko ends up intervening, and decays the hand that was reaching into the OFA space.

Its a perfect callback to the times Midoriya has saved before. Not only does Midoriya save people no matter what, his actions would in turn also inspire others to act too. He saved Eri, and so her power later saved him. He saved Kota, and Kota then used his quirk to protect Midoriya. It's perfect, because Tenko Shimura is the combination of both characters.

Remember how the quirks in OFA were enhanced due to stockpile?

Tenko, while defending Midoriya and OFA, also ends up decaying a portion of AFO's quirks as a result of being enhanced by OFA.

So this leads to Tenko suggesting he goes back in there to destroy AFO and his quirks from within.

Yoichi is unsure at first, since Star also tried the same thing, she eventually got destroyed before she managed to destroy all the other quirks. So the only way for Tenko to be successful is for OFA to go with him, so it could be strong enough to destroy it all at once before Tenko is destroyed.

This could also lead to OFA being destroyed too, Yoichi holding back his brother long enough when only OFA and AFO are what's left to keep him away from Tenko, allowing him to finish it all off once and for all. There's a good chance Tenko won't make it out either. In a sense, Tenko Shimura fulfills his dream that he was denied of all his life and dies a hero.

This is the big moment in which Midoriya has to prove whether he is the same as those in Tenko's family (denying him), or be someone who can finally give him the words that he always yearned for, the validation that "You can be a hero".

Midoriya's final test is letting someone go.

Maybe this isnt just the closure Tenko needs, but for all three of them (Yoichi, Midoriya, Tenko). These three were the ones denied of becoming heroes one way or another, finally being given the chance.

It's a triple sacrifice.

Horikoshi planned this from the start, Ch 193 and onwards were all build up towards this very moment. Bakugo noting that OFA being the same as AFO almost 200 chapters wasn't just some observation or symbolic parallel, it was set up. Because the two are one and the same, and it's the very key to Midoriya's goal in saving Tenko Shimura.

I know, some might not agree, it might even be controversial because of how similar this is to AFO, but I'd like to say that it might not be like that.

A big theme in MHA is how one's quirk, personality, or nature isn't all that makes a person a villain or a hero, it's also the nurture and how they use it. A power used for "destruction" can also be used for "salvation". The power that can be used in the most cruellest ways can also be the kindest. This applies to both All For One (in the form of One For All) and Tenko's decay.

I don't know, what do you think? Crazy? I would agree that Horikoshi is crazy if this happens to be accurate-

So I've cited that Luz feeling guilty about helping Philip makes positively zero sense before, but as I was writing the new chapter for the spite fic I had additional thoughts come rushing back to me. So now I'm subjecting tumblr to my thoughts once again.

Can anyone, anyone at all, explain the logic to have Luz make such a big fucking deal about this to me? (I mean. Apart from the suspicions I've posited in the linked post above?) Or why any of the other characters would CARE that she did? Because like… she really didn’t.

Philly was already LOOKING for the Collector by the time she came into contact with him, and probably would’ve found him whether or not she and Lilith were his “sacrifices” at the time of doing so. Moreover… short of teaching him the light glyph, she actually did… nothing to help him in this endeavor. He already knew the glyph combo to get up to the skull, he already solved most of the puzzle to get into the room (and even then, it was LILITH who finished it, not Luz)… literally she was only there to basically be bait. There’s making your character have a guilt complex, and then there’s making them be plain stupid.

And then with TTT treating the revelation that she did "help" as something the other characters are shocked and horrified by!! Again, stupid!!

Because no no – here’s the thing: None of them should rightfully know that the Collector taught Philip the Draining Spell. Unless I’m forgetting something major (and PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong), this is never explicitly spelled out for the characters. It’s spelled out for us, the viewers, but at no point does Philip (or the Collector!) tell anyone “oh yeah, it’s because of the Collector that I know how to do this.”

The closest, the absolute CLOSEST I could figure towards this making any sense at all, is when Lex is yelling at Philip about teaching him magic “stronger than anybody’s.” Luz was… kinda close when that happened? But if she was SO afraid of everyone hating her for introducing the little guy into the equation (barely, if that), then why would she tell them what she overheard? Even if she had told them, again, why would they care?

Wanna know what the kids had actually seen the Collector do by the point it came out that Luz was even loosely involved with him? He saved them from being McMurdered by Belos. He got genuinely happy when he saw King. He expressed a desire to play games. He stopped the Draining Spell, saving the Isles.

"Uh, Monkey, they just watched him murder a guy-" Luz watched Eda murder a guy back in season one and didn't even blink!! Did everyone just forget that she ate Adagast alive?? And that was LUZ, the other kids ought to be even more desensitized to that kind of shit, they've lived on the Boiling Isles all their lives! (Hunter gets a pass at being horrified, because it was the only family he'd ever known by that point that got smunched.)

And then having the situation make even less sense, fucking EDA calls Lex out for the Draining Spell in WaD!! Ma’am how could you possibly know he had a hand in that?? (And don’t none of you try to pull some “she was informed offscreen because the Collector must’ve told King who told her—” get outta town with that. If canon doesn’t SHOW us, we shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to justify it like that.)

Anyway yeah the writing in regards to this entire situation is just atrocious, that is all.

Beltane - Part 8 It all starts -> here (incl prequel)

Noxee, Jack and Saiwa left the campsite and went back to Porto Azzurro. They are the first batch to travel back home with the TTT (Teleporting TukTuk). Jack and Sai are worried they'd have to face Kiyoshi and Jeb when they pick up Ji Ho, but Noxee reassured them. Noxee: "Ji Ho is staying with Vlad tonight too. The ride and sending Greg and me back to Moonwood Mill will cost them. So it's better they stay together until tomorrow to charge the Bond." Saiwa: "Oh, ok."

It's already noon and the others are having lunch. They wait for the TukTuk to come back to bring them home.

Haha Greg has a huge plate full of meat ^^' And it seems he and Kiyoshi get along really well ö.Ö (We had this episode after Jack fell in his coma (that was before we learned that Greg is Jack's father). It seems that Greg always supported Kiyoshi and Jack. Is he helping Kiyoshi to get back together with Jack?)

Okay, I need to rant about something that entered my mind when I read TTT recently.

Flotsam and Jetsam is the name of one of the many chapters we're reading from today. It covers the section where Merry and Pippin recount to their friends their recent adventures with the Ents and the attack on Isengard.

Flotsam and Jetsam. Two words I've heard paired together, but had no idea what they meant. So I looked it up. From NOAA we get this:

Flotsam and jetsam are terms that describe two types of marine debris associated with vessels. Flotsam is defined as debris in the water that was not deliberately thrown overboard, often as a result from a shipwreck or accident. Jetsam describes debris that was deliberately thrown overboard by a crew of a ship in distress, most often to lighten the ship's load.

Overlooking the fact that there are no vessels in this part of story, the use of "flotsam" makes sense. Although the insane amount of flooding at Isengard was intentional on behalf of the Ents, the debris that ended up in the water was not deliberate. We even have the term "flotsam" used twice in the text:

We spent a busy time after that, searching the flotsam, and rummaging about.

It was through our search for man-food that Pippin discovered the prize of all the flotsam, those Hornblower barrels.

So that's resolved. However, the chapter is titled Flotsam AND Jetsam. So the question that's been on my mind is what exactly is "jetsam" referring to?

It could be something really simple. Maybe some of that debris was intentionally thrown into the water. Or perhaps you can make the argument that Wormtongue is the jetsam, because he unceremoniously gets chucked into water by Treebeard. A really amusing answer, and one I can get behind, but it still leaves something to be desired because it's not as clear-cut as the case for "flotsam". He wasn’t thrown in the water in distress from the flooding, but instead during the aftermath as a means of dealing with him.

This isn't important at all but I am still so curious about it. Reducing it down to "oh, Tolkien didn't think of that. It doesn't mean anything" feels wrong. There has to be a reason, whether Tolkien was aware of it at the time or not.
