Does it ever drive you crazy, just how fast the night changes...

Alongside addressing general wolf-lore, my next "Deep Dive" post will have an entire section on Jacob Volkov, Lou Howell, Rory Oaklow, and Celene López due to the significant role they play in my personal story and lore around Moonwood Mill. The lore I have for them spans a pretty decent chunk of time, ranging roughly from the time Jacob is 13 - younger than we see here - up until they're all in their 40s (which is where I always start my werewolf save), and there's no better way for me to illustrate that than a visual aid!

Note: The top row is Jacob Volkov, second row is Lou Howell, the third row is Rory Oaklow, and the fourth row is Celene López. The first column depicts each of them as teens (a flashback for the older three, but where Jacob is when you start the game), second column they are young adults (a flash into the future for Jacob, but where the game picks up for Lou/Rory/Celene), and the third and final column depicts them as "older" adults.

Just a little interlude before judgment!

In case you haven't seen it, I've been posting little interviews with the cast. Please feel free to send me questions, anonymously or not! I'll put them up in batches between posts.

Most characters have canon origin stories! It's just Elle, L, Brandy, and Morgyn who don't. Caleb isn't wrong about how long it would take to get through it all, but I can make some space at the bottom of the post :)

Most of this comes from dialogue from Werewolves, which I put up here.

Celene & Lou: attacked by Greg while on a date after Lou provoked him - she took the cure, he thought he could ride it out.

Lily: fled into the tunnels when Vlad tried to turn her, where she was bitten by a rabid werewolf. Spent years wandering around feral before Kristopher found her.

Caleb: turned by Miss Hell in a bar bathroom with the door on backwards. It's unclear whether he asked to turn or not, but I'd say most likely not.

Jacob: got lost in the woods as a small child after being traumatically separated from his family. He was hunted by a werewolf and a vampire, and then rescued by Kristopher.

Wolfgang: visited Moonwood Mill to escape the rat race in San Myshuno, decided he liked the werewolf lifestyle, and asked Kristopher to turn him.

Inna: turned by Caleb in the official trailer. Based on promotional material and the paintings from vampires, she seems to have been a thrall for centuries before that, possibly as early as the 1600s.

Darrel: born a spellcaster. Because he has the strong bloodline trait, he must be at minimum a 3rd generation caster.

Emilia: recently ascended according to her household description, presumably by Morgyn, since they're the only sage she knows by default and they're both friends with Grace and Tomax.

Elle: born a vampire during the first half of the Century Conflict. Her parents were former spellcasters who were turned during Operation Eternal Flame.

Brandy: attacked and almost killed by a member of her girlfriend Samantha's coven of origin. Samantha turned her to save her life.

L: an orphaned street urchin. Was accidentally transported to the Magic Realm after pickpocketing a spellcaster and taking his Glimmerstone. She met Keisha and immediately started badgering her for power and secrets.

Morgyn: a teen runaway. They found instructions to get into the Magic Realm in a library book, thought the whole thing sounded extremely rad, made their way to Glimmerbrook, and immediately started badgering Tess for power and secrets.

I wanted a Century Conflict veteran, which is why I made Elle so old. Brandy possibly has a mundane brother, so I didn't want her to have been born vampire. I love foundlings in stories (yes, I'm a big Mandalorian fan, fuck off) so yeah Morgyn and L are foundlings.

RORY: Hey, Lucy. Food almost ready? LUCY: Huh? Oh! Yup! Eat up, buttercup. BEE: TALL LADY! RORY: Yes, Short Stack? HECTOR: Be nice, Bee. BEE: I wanna hear the Legend of the First Wolf! RORY: Sounds like a plan, kiddo. -

BEE: You promised me a story! RORY: I did, I did. Listen up. Hector noodling on his guitar. - RORY: In the before time, the Moon fell in love with a woman. She was beautiful, fast, and strong. The animals adored and worshiped her. But the Sun was jealous. He transformed himself into a four legged, many fanged creature and attacked. The Sun was faster than she. He leapt onto her and bit into her arm.

As the woman lay on the grass, she stared up at the sky, searching for her lover. The Moon, distraught, used her magic to heal the woman, but the woman was changed—she felt an anger bubbling underneath, a fury that would surprise her.

One night she looked into the reflection of a pool, realized her eyes were yellow when they were once brown, and she stared up at the Moon and asked of her, "What has become of me?"

The Moon, at her fullest, bright and beautiful: I have tried to heal you, but I cannot stop what is to come, my love. The woman's body spasmed, twitched and convulsed as she hunched over, lower to the ground, hands tore into the dirt as her nails turned into claws, her teeth into canines, fur where hair once grew—she looked into the water once again.

A howl echoed through the forest. The wolves howled, the bird cried, and the bears roared in response.

She felt powerful.

A rabbit, unfortunate with its timing, appeared then. A glint in the woman's yellow eye. Run, rabbit, run.

BEE: Whoa. But I don't wanna eat a bunny. HECTOR: No bunnies will be eaten tonight, mija. RORY: Her blood is your blood. We all carry that within us, and I think it's a strength.

All howl except Diego. A bunch of B.S., he thinks.

Jack's Therapy Game (From the beginning: -> here)

After Jack cared for the horses and Lou prepared the room for Jack, they went over to the Pub. Jack didn't get kicked out like Vlad and no one asked about his 'status'.

Jack: "About the money for the room and stuff... I'll get a job right tomorrow morning. I heard the sculptor is hiring." Lou: "Oh no, no one works for the sculptor." Jack: "I don't have problems to take my shirt off." Lou: "It's not this. We don't talk about it. Don't you worry, you can help me at the shop."

Lou noticed Jack's rash. Lou: "Isn't this painful? I've heard about this. Did your Alpha die? If you don't get this treated you might die too, you know that, don't you?" Jack: "No, he didn't die - it's uhm... complicated and yes..." Now that he thinks about it, it doesn't hurt! He didn't even pay attention since he was so stressed about being locked up. But as far as he remembers, it didn't hurt since he entered the game!

Jack: "I'm fine :3 So, are these your horses?" Lou: "No, Lunatic belongs to no one but he kind of lives here and Val is the horse of my best friend from the neighboring village. But he's here all the time because they are deeply in love." Jack: "Is that so." Does that mean this friend is NPC Jeb? Well, since Ji Ho and some of their other friends are also here as NPCs, it would make sense. Jack hopes he can talk to one of them soon to see how 'real' their NPC versions are. Tiny Can maybe does this so they feel comfortable in their therapy.

Even the Queen and the Prince Caleb are here tonight. And he's seen NPC Leander, Barfolomew and: Greg -.- But the Queen and Greg don't sit together. Like at the Arena. That's good news! Jack: "Is the Queen married?" Lou: "No. And she's only the Queen here until the Prince gets married to Princess Jihovere." Princess Jihovere? Caleb and Ji Ho will get married here? OMG! And the Queen will not stay the Queen here so his chances to hit on her just increased! (Omg Jack!) ('Jihovere' refers to 'Guinevere', the beloved wife of King Arthur.)

Jack and Lou had a good time at the pub and Jack has a good feeling about this therapy. For once he can try to act like a 'more normal' person in this world and see what he could achieve. No one here knows about his disorders and hardships. And here he can experience what his life could be if he overcame/worked on some of them. He's fully aware that he can't be 'healed' and he knows that his friends love him and worry about him and try to protect him. But he also gets the feeling that this keeps him from prospering. He'll talk about this with the others when he's back. But he's going to stay a little longer because he really likes Lou and they have so much fun together. And the pain is gone. Jack hadn't felt this good for a very long time.
