Mei Aihara Cosplay Review - Trustedealcosplaycostume
Tumblr media
Hello everybody! n.n It's time for another review, this time from Trustedealcosplaycostume! If you wanna see the video that comes with it, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTv6Sgv5Q1Y
So this time I’ll be reviewing... *drumroll* a cosplay costume! And who else? None other than Mei Aihara from Citrus! To give those who are unfamiliar with the character a reference of her costume, here it is. :D
Tumblr media
For those of you that are unfamiliar with Citrus in general, it’s about. Mei Aihara is the student council president and is a generally cold and standoffish, but you get to see different aspects of her throughout the series. Now that we have a little bit of background on her, it’s time to move on to the actual review! n.n So this is what the costume looks like on their website.
Tumblr media
Before I begin, I received the following articles from them and will be reviewing each by separate. Basically, I got everything you see in this image.
1. Vest
2. White shirt
3. Skirt
4. Tie
5. Sweater
6. School President armband
For reference, I’m a US size S so I ordered an Asian M from them. Even with the typical “buy one size up” rule most Internet shoppers use to buy clothes from Asia, they provide a chart for you to line up your measurements and figure out what your size is. They were VERY helpful with this, at first I struggled because I couldn’t find my size but they were kind enough to guide me and to help me choose the correct size.
Shipping + Packaging 5/5
Seeing that I was already saturated with cosplay projects (Silja? Stuck finishing like 10 costumes due in two weeks?? That never happens!) I asked Trustedeal if we could do normal shipping instead. They politely agreed and shipped the parcel on September 29th. Technically it arrived in Mexico October 20th, but I had to go to the post office in person to pick it up because my local posting service was confused about my address. Lol. The costume got to me in about 22 days, which isn’t bad at all given that I get most things in a month and a half from the internet.
Also, when I got everything every single article was wrapped individually in its own little plastic bag which was a neat detail, given that other places I’ve ordered from cram everything into a giant ziploc bag. XD
Vest 4.7/5
So the vest is made out of a thin material similar to polyester, lined with rayon which is a pretty standard lining for vests of any kind (I’ll be honest, I don’t line anything I make LMAO so seeing lined stuff is like O:). This type of material wrinkles easily if left folded for a long period of time, so if you buy this please iron it before wearing for the best look. I was worried about the best being too small, but when I wore it for a second I questioned if it was too big lol.The seams on the vest were clean, no loose threads of any kind. My only problem was how easily it wrinkled, but even then it’s not a real problem if you have an iron. Might be if you’re on the go and don’t have an iron at the con. So BE CAREFUL and carry it on a clotheshanger and cover it in plastic.
In general, iron your cosplays before conventions kids. -w-
White shirt 5/5
So the white shirt had a different clothing tag, which made me assume they get them from a distributor (not that I view it negatively, I was just very curious when I didn’t see the company’s logo on the shirt XD) The material is cotton, which makes it very breathable. I’m a modest bra size, so I had no trouble with the shirt puckering at the buttons (which happens to me and a lot of women with blouses, HMMMM) In general the garment was very flattering on my body which I was really surprised.
Skirt 5/5
I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SKIRT!! ;u; Easily my favorite part right next to the white blouse. The skirt’s pattern is very screen-accurate, down to the size of the squares and the number of lines on it. The skirt has a clasp mechanism paired with a zipper, which provides sturdier support compared to a single button. And the best part... THE SKIRT HAS A POCKET!! YES! I can finally fulfill a lifelong dream: carry my cellphone in a practical and flattering manner while wearing cosplay!! XD Now if only those kinds of things could translate over into real life womens’ clothes... No really, Trustedeal. I love you for this. I can’t lie that I’m a little worried about the skirt material since it is very thin (very similar to the vest material), so just in case when I wash them I will put them in a little laundry bag.
Tie + SC President Armband 4.7/5
Tumblr media
The tie, bless the gods, you don’t have to tie yourself each time. It’s an already done tie with a zipper mechanism that you zip or unzip to make it bigger or smaller for your neck. Thanks for expecting me not to know how to tie a tie, because I don’t LOL. As if everything else in cosplay wasn’t a hassle, I think getting the perfect knot in a tie would be a frustrating little setback.
The student council president armband is made of a thin material, with white kanji printed on it. I doubt a little that this is machine washable, most likely you will need to wash it by hand. Unfortunately, the wearability of this was my least favorite part of the costume, given that the armband extends past the sleeve of my white blouse. I personally think it’s a little unflattering, and it can’t be cut because you’d compromise the kanji design. It doesn’t look super awful, but maybe if the blouse sleeves were a little longer this wouldn’t look so awkward. You can see this better in my video review.
Sweater 4.5/5
The sweater is nice, I won’t lie. But I wasn’t particularly sold on the way it flattered my body. XD Mei’s sweater in the anime ends a little lower, displaying more of the tie and the v-neck of this sweater ends slightly  too high. I think it takes away from the tie, because it covers up a lot of it. If the v-neck was a little lower, I would probably be 100% sold on it. It looks like your standard v-neck sweater you can purchase at a clothing store: thick, with real knitting (a lot of cosplayer manufacturers tend to fake these details so seeing that some parts of the sweater really were knitted was a great plus). In general the sweater has a lot of wearability outside of cosplay.
General 4.8/5
So I am SUPER impressed by the quality of the costume. Neat seams, no loose threads, wise choice of materials and how some pieces of the cosplay you can use for everyday wear or mix and match for different schoolgirl looks. In general I am super content with this costume and will definitely be keeping an eye out for what Trustedeal makes!
