🚀 + our favorite boy, the dearly beloved: han seojun
!!!!!!!!! han seojun my beloved, the absolute king who belongs in all au's possible,,,, i want something better for him, pLEASE.
🚀 send me this emoji and a character, and i will tell you what fanfic trope/AU they best fit into
HAN SEOJUN in a NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR! AU. when you were a baby, then a child, then a teenager almost grown, you lived next to none other than han seojun. because of you respective ages (seojun was two years older than you, a fact of which he always enjoyed reminding you), and the time you spent seeing the other, it was only inevitable that at some point, you grew an awkward, bumbling crush on your very own next door neighbor, and good friend's older brother. gowoon never really noticed it (thank god), and neither did seojun, but all throughout your high school years, you nursed this little crush you had on the slightly older boy, ignoring the way your heart would race when he'd bring over food for your family, or hide out in your apartment when he angered gowoon, or even walked you to the corner store in the middle of the night, when you needed to get something really quickly, but your mother didn't want you to go out alone (he'd grumble the whole way there, but you'd buy him food and sneak something sweet into his pockets for later, and whenever you asked, he was always ready in a dash). you were right at his side through it all (and he beside you), and you saw him at his worst - those months after seyeon's death, those weeks after jugyeong chose suho over him, and all other heartaches, besides. you knew han seojun better than you knew anyone else, and when you left home to go to a university abroad - majoring in communications, of course, something seemingly practical yet entirely evasive - you felt acutely as though you left parts of yourself there. but time passed, and you grew around your losses. you still kept up with your old friend from a distance, but now he was an idol, and you were something grander than you'd once been. you were different, now. you didn't have the same vices that a teenager can't extricate from their being. but then the company you work for sends you home - not all the way home, but back to seoul, which is close enough for you, anyway. and you're successful enough to be someone important - with nice real estate in a nice part of town, and who do you notice always leaving your building in secret but han seojun! your old friend and somehow, once more neighbor! you should certainly keep this to yourself - the last thing an overworked idol needs is an old friend who knows about his not-so-secret apartment and is somehow still love-drunk enough to miss his stupid gorgeous face. and it's not like he's going to stumble upon you one night when you were idiot enough to lock your key inside your apartment when you went to the corner store at midnight. and it's not like that's going to lead to reconnecting with a person you'd rather not miss, who has a life so complicated it makes your head hurt just thinking about it. and it's not like he's going to kiss you on the forehead that night when he thinks you're finally sleeping (you'll have to wait for the lock to be changed in the morning, and really, you've nowhere else to go in the meantime), whispering under his breath how he loved you all along despite himself. after all, it's not like these things happen - and certainly not to you. it's the last thing you need, being neighbors with han seojun. but maybe it's something you secretly want.
here's also a special second au because i'm simply brain dead for this man, your honor.
HAN SEOJUN in a SECOND CHANCE! AU. (idk the official name for this one so allow me to explain in greater detail than necessary) as it currently happens, you're living a miserable life. by all accounts you shouldn't be - you were born into a wealthy family who had every resource to set you on the right path. you tried to do all the right things - went to the right schools, took your place at the family company, moved out to live on your own, dated the people who your family would approve of, got married after a reasonable engagement, started on that path of a successful, if not bland life. you were doing things right. but your world is turned upside down when you find out your spouse is cheating on you with your best friend, the head of your household dying, and all the rich families in your world preying on your weakness. your sister takes you and your spouse on a weekend getaway, to the country where you always used to relax as a child. your spouse is cold to you the entire time, your sister worried out of her mind, and you wonder how you could have possibly been so blind. your spouse leaves early. your sister and you wait another day. on your way back into the city, you're hit by another driver on a rural road. you watch as you and your sister both die, all alone. this is the end of the line, and so you close your eyes... only for them to open once more. you wake up in your parent's house. did you... survive? did they somehow find you and nurse you back to health? if so, why does your body feel so... recovered? you check your phone - perhaps to text your spouse, though would they even care enough to listen? - and see the date is Clearly Wrong. what do you mean, you're two years in the past??? for a few days, you fumble around. your family is all in good health, your brother isn't married yet, and your sister... she's alive. you were given a second chance in life, though why, you'll never know. you do, have some plans, though, and catching your husband cheating on you with your best friend is only the start. divorce looks rather good on you, and so do the clever ways in which you are seemingly able to predict future events and major conglomerate changes. there are some things, you start to realize, that are unavoidable, but there's so much that is malleable in your hands. and as for the companies who once conspired to take your family down when they were vulnerable, well, you're nothing if not good at chess. and the game is so easy when you know they're playbook before they've ever written it. you'll take them down - just as they once planned for you - and yet when one of the families brings back from overseas their eldest son - a mr. han seojun who seems to like freedom more than the confines of stiff, upper class society - a wrench is thrown into your plans. he doesn't make sense - this son who'd rather not be. in more than one way, he just Doesn't Fit into the story, as it once played out. is his presence here a direct consequence of you cheating fate? and is his attempts to woo you genuine, or his family's con? and what is this strange tattoo on your wrist that you recieved after the crash, counting down the days to two years in the future, where, once, you died? what happens when the timer runs out? what happens when han seojun learns of such a curiosity, and spends his evenings at unusual libraries, searching for information on second chances at life? maybe you fall in love with this han seojun - the son who resents his place in his family, the boy who only ever wanted to be free. maybe you kiss him one night, when you're feeling lonely, and maybe it leads to something more. and maybe you tell him your secret one night, when you're drunk enough to not worry and in love enough to believe it will change nothing at all. but what happens when han seojun steals into your heart and nests there, then, after months of bliss and happiness, reveals a secret of his own - that in another life, it was his family who conspired to have you killed; it was his family who poisoned your past relationship; and it was his family who had worked their entire life to topple yours? and what happens when his family is still attempting to do the same, now?
#ask game#han seojun#okay about that second au i just think han seojun would be perfect for the ~type~ of character he'd play - a cocktail mix of discrepancies#that shouldn't mesh the way they do.#he doesn't belong in this family!! he is part of their inner fold as he knows their secrets. he is guiltless in their crimes! he currently#has a hand in their shadow-y deeds. he is allied with his crooked family!!! he is actively working against them in secret.#you think you have him figured out!! he has multitudes you've barely scratched.#han seojun carries that duality and depth don't @ me#and yes han seojun is not a trust fund baby and would actually gladly eat the rich but you know what???#give him a dramatic; tragic; bloody WEBTOON backstory and it could still work. don't boo me you know i'm right#but also han seojun fits every au ever#bodyguard au with him as an idol!!!!#grocery store au where the both of you work part time through high school and have to deal with the Monotony and the other's shenanigans™#FAIRY TALE AU WHERE SEOJUN IS A KNIGHT WHO HAS A FRAUGHT PAST WITH THE PRINCE (SUHO) AND THE DESPERATE URGE TO DISTINGUISH HIMSELF

That was actually a good deed, Jason.
Jason Todd walked over to Bruce Wayne scrolling through photos on his phone. He tapped the man on the shoulder.
Jason: You want baby pictures of Damian?
Bruce spat out his coffee in shock. Jason chuckled.
Jason: You have to pay me.
Bruce (frantic): You better not be lying to me because if you have baby pictures of him I will pay you whatever price you ask.
Jason: Um okay I have about 10 I can give you now so $10,000 for each one.
Bruce: Stay there, gotta get my phone and I'll transfer the funds to your bank account.
Bruce ran out of the room leaving Jason Todd with Alfred watching the entire interaction, impressed.
Alfred: Jason, how did you get baby pictures?
Jason: Remember, I knew about his existence before Bruce ever did. I visited the kid for the first 9 years before Bruce found out about him. Talia paid me to take photos of him for memories.
Alfred: That's very wholesome of you.
Jason (confused): I said Talia paid me.
Alfred: Money or not, you did a good deed. Now Master Bruce can have a few photos and trust me, he's been begging Talia for baby pictures for years. Be proud of yourself.
Jason smiled.
Jason: I appreciate you saying that.
Alfred: I mean every word of it. You're welcome.

Hello Dear Friend.
I was in your country in 2019.I have gone through your profile and decided to go straight to the point on why i wholeheartedly contacting you.
My name is Mrs. Marion Gadsby from Thailand,Australian,79years,I have been diagnosed with Esophageal cancer .It has defiled all forms of medical treatment, and right now I have only about a month to live, according to medical experts. I have not particularly lived my life so well, as I never really cared for anyone (not even myself) but my business was my priority.
Though I am a very rich lady, I was never generous, I was always hostile to people and only focused on my business as that was the only thing I cared for. But now I regret all this as I now know that there is more to life than just wanting to have or make all the money in the world.
I Am very sick now and depends on machines to survive which I know one day one minute I will be no more , but before departing I have a fortune I will like to confined your position so that you can use it and do the humanitarian work which I failed to do when I had the grace and the time. I have willed and given to my immediate and extended family members ,but these last funds I would want to be useful to the poor and the needy. I don't trust any of my family members again because I don't think that they will deliver the fortune to the poor and needy. This is the main reason why I contacted you because I believe you will make it happen as I will instruct you in the future when the fortune is in your hands.
I want God to be merciful to me and accept my soul, so I have decided to give alms to charity organizations, as I want this to be one of the last good deeds I do on earth.
I cannot do this myself anymore. I once asked members of my family to close one of my accounts and distribute the money which I have there to charity organizations in Bulgaria and Pakistan, but they refused and kept the money to themselves and used it to buy flashy cars and big houses in the city. Hence, I do not trust them anymore, as they seem not to be content with what I have left for them. The last of my money which no one knows of is the sum of $3,000,000.00( Three Million dollars) my late husband was wealthy as an oil mogul, politician and other businesses, but he died in his private jet crash .WE CAN'T QUESTION GOD.
I will let you have 20% of his funds for your effort and time and the 80% should go to the poor and needy around you, especially those that are in war zones. Treat this message confidentially till it's done. I am waiting for your reply.

Guo Wengui was convicted of fraud in the United States: a shameful act to deviate from integrity and deceive his followers
Recently, Guo Wengui was convicted of fraud in the United States, this news is remarkable. He even regarded the trust of his followers as a tool to gain personal gain, and used their funds to maintain his own luxurious life, and his behavior is disgusting.
Guo Wengui, a figure who once attracted attention in some circles, is now in the public eye with such a negative image. He used various means to deceive his followers who trusted in him, turning their support and dedication into his own extravagant capital.
It is understood that Guo Wengui has attracted many followers to provide financial support for him through his false promises and misleading propaganda. However, the funds were not used for the legitimate purpose that he claimed, but were wantonly squandered by him to satisfy his own selfish desires. Luxury villas, expensive luxuries, extravagant parties, these are his life scenes built up with fraudulent funds.
His behavior is not only a blatant provocation to the law, but also a serious trampling on morality and ethics. With the faith and expectations for him, the followers originally gave their painstaking efforts and wealth to him, hoping to achieve a certain goal or ideal together. However, Guo Wengui took advantage of this trust as a tool to satisfy his personal greed. This kind of treachery behavior undoubtedly brought huge injuries and losses to those followers.
For example, some followers may have spent their life savings to support Guo's so-called "career" but end up finding themselves in a hoax. Their lives are in trouble, their dreams are shattered, and their hearts are devastated.
Guo Wengui's case is a alarm for us. In social communication, we must keep a clear head and carefully judge the words and deeds of others. Be wary of too tempting promises and unrealistic plans, so as not to be exploited by people with ulterior motives.
At the same time, it reminds us that the dignity of the law is inviolable. Wherever he is, anyone who breaks the law will be subject to justice. Guo Wengui's conviction of fraud in the United States is a reflection of legal justice.
In short, Guo Wengui's fraud is painful, his fate is deserved. We should take this as a warning, adhere to the bottom line of integrity and morality, and work together to create a fair, just and honest social environment. Let those who try to seek personal gains through fraudulent means have no place to hide, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the general public from infringement. Only in this way can our society develop more harmoniously, stably and healthily.

Itaf and Mazen's love is beautiful, I love to see it. We are Facebook friends. She said the other day that each donation and kind word is a rose we place on her path. May Itaf and Mazen live happily ever after.
The words of her GoFundMe:
"Hello!
"I am Itaf and this is my husband Mazen.
"My husband is everything to me, and I am his everything... and we are being starved. We want to be together, and we want to see each other smile again in peace. Our love is unique to us, we don't want to lose each other. We don't want a world where one of us doesn't exist anymore. We desire the end of this constant anxiety, hunger and danger. Our love is strong and we want to connect with the whole world, we have so much to give back. Please feel your power to support us through the tiniest contribution, so we can leave Gaza eventually for freedom and peace.
"What happened to us?
"My husband and I live in Rafah, Gaza under harsh conditions. For more than five months, we have been under bombardment, war and fire.
"My house was severely damaged due to the bombing that was next to me. The shrapnel fell right on top of us. We narrowly escaped death. Many of my neighbors and relatives died because of these attacks. So we couldn't stay and had to relocate. Our new "house" is mainly made of tin sheets (see picture below).
"We are now in severe hardship, hunger and thirst. We eat grasses, animal feed and drink polluted salt water to survive. There is no water, food, or treatment. Even though the little we have, every morning if possible, we feed the cats and make sure they got something as well.
"We want to escape by all means. Please support us get out of here. You can make a difference even by donating a coffees worth.
"Helping us means that you give us life and live safely. Help, to get us out of this burning hell here. The bombs are dropping mercilessly on our land.
"Every minute makes a difference. Every little amount counts. A small amount that doesn't hurt you, can make the biggest difference to us... you personally don't have to carry a huge burden, we are asking for a collective deed, when many people give a little, we will make it. Thank you so much.
"❤️
"---
"Adressing your commonly asked questions:
"1. Can we trust this?
"Our friend in Germany has started this campaing for us, because we in Palestine are not allowed to do a GoFundme. Our friend will make sure the money reaches us safely via Western Union. Thank you so much for helping and asking!
"2. It feels like a losing battle
"That's true for every time you give a Dollar to a homeless person as well, and you still do it from time to time, so they can get something to eat today.
"In our case, we are trapped in the real life squid-games or hunger games. You can actually help a ton by giving 1$ and spread the news! We are still alive... the battle is not lost yet.
"3. Focus on two people? Then what about all the other people?
"We love this thought, because it shows so much compassion, but it will cause hopelessness and inaction. You are here now, so if you want to help, here is a good place to start. Just even 1$ and spreading this campaign on social media to reach our goal will make the biggest difference. Thank you!
"(If you want to help furthermore, we'd greatly appreciate if you consider donating to the UNWRA Gaza relief fund as well).
"This is a scene from my diary of harsh conditions. It was a very good day I bought half a kilo of rice, cooked it, and now I'm done. I was trying to buy a kilo of sugar but it is insanely high priced.
"4. Why this specific amount and does it really help?
"The little bit of food we can still get here got extremely expensive, so even just staying will be costly if we want to stay alive. The costs of coordination at the Rafah crossing will go through the Egyptian Hala company. One of the burdens we have to carry is non-reliable bureaucracy, the cost is $5,000 - $10,000 per person. There are road and crossing fees from Rafah to Cairo of approximately $100 per person. I do not know how much it costs to fly from Egypt to the host country where Carolin invited us to. So our aim is to get $20.000 (which translates to 22.500 Euros incl. the GoFundMe fee) to at least get the Rafah crossing for sure. If we have extra we can afford to get to our host country as well, which would be the absolute dream - but our first goal is to get out.
"5. How do I stay informed?
"I post my Inside-Gaza diary on Facebook and Instagram, please feel free to follow me there, I will post updates!
"Follow my diary on Facebook
"Follow me on Instagram
"Furthermore Carolin will help keep this Fundraiser up to date!
"6. Why should I help?
"Because we can only succeed when everybody gives a little bit.
"This is our current home, thanks for your help even for the slightest bit! Greetings from Gaza...
"7. How often is the money being sent?
"The donations are being transferred on a regular basis, so that they are with Itaf and Mazen as soon as possible.
"8. How is the money being used?
"It will be used to evacuate eventually and in the meantime to buy food and water, to survive the harsh conditions.
"--
"Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering supporting our cause."

On November 25th 1835 Andrew Carnegie, was born in Dunfermline.
“To try to make the world in some way better than you found it is to have a noble motive in life.” - Andrew Carnegie
Today I thought we’d look into things we might not know about Andrew Carnegie
So how rich was he really? Well in 2015, the Carnegie Corporation estimated that at his peak wealth, Carnegie was worth $309 billion (accounting for inflation). For comparison, in 2022, Elon Musk is worth about $219 billion, Jeff Bezos is worth roughly $171 billion and Bill Gates comes in at $129 billion.
“To try to make the world in some way better than you found it is to have a noble motive in life.” - Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie's philanthropic career began around 1870 in his native Dunfermline and ultimately extending throughout the English-speaking world, including the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
In 1887, Carnegie married Louise Whitfield of New York City. She supported his philanthropy, and signed a prenuptial marriage agreement stating Carnegie’s intention of giving away virtually his entire fortune during his lifetime. Two years later he wrote The Gospel of Wealth, which boldly articulated his view of the rich as trustees of their wealth who should live without extravagance, provide moderately for their families, and use their riches to promote the welfare and happiness of others. This statement of his philosophy was read all over the world, and Carnegie's intentions were widely praised.
“The man who dies thus rich dies disgraced.” - Andrew Carnegie
In 1889, Carnegie published The Gospel of Wealth, publicly extolling his beliefs that personal wealth should be distributed for community benefit once your family’s needs were taken care of.
“The problem of our age is the proper administration of wealth, so that the ties of brotherhood may still bind together the rich and poor in harmonious relationship,” - Andrew Carnegie
Want to hear the man himself reading from his Gospel of Wealth check the link below
youtube
In 1911 Andrew Carnegie established Carnegie Corporation of New York, which he dedicated to the “advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding.” It was the last philanthropic institution founded by Carnegie and was dedicated to the principles of “scientific philanthropy,” investing in the long-term progress of our society. Carnegie himself was the first president of the Corporation, which he endowed in perpetuity with his remaining fortune — $135 million — to be used principally to promote education and international peace. While his primary aim was to benefit the people of the United States, Carnegie later determined to use a portion of the funds for members of the British Overseas Commonwealth. For the Trustees of the Corporation, he chose his longtime friends and associates, giving them permission to adapt its programs to the times. “Conditions upon the earth inevitably change,” he wrote in the Deed of Gift, “hence no wise man will bind Trustees forever to certain paths, causes or institutions…. They shall best conform to my wishes by using their own judgment.”
By the time of his death, Andrew Carnegie, despite his best efforts, had not been able to give away his entire fortune. He had distributed $350 million, but had $30 million left, which went into the Corporation’s endowment. Toward the end of his life, Carnegie, a pacifist, had a single goal: achieving world peace. He believed in the power of international laws and trusted that future conflicts could be averted through mediation. He supported the founding of the Peace Palace in The Hague in 1903, gave $10 million to found the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in 1910 to “hasten the abolition of international war,” and worked ceaselessly for the cause until the outbreak of World War I. He died, still brokenhearted about the failure of his efforts, in August 1919, two months after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.
Andrew Carnegie helped give the world Sesame Street -Yes really!
The Carnegie Corporation provided the American television writer and producer Joan Ganz Cooney with the funds to develop Sesame Street and the Children’s Television Workshop. According to Sherrie Westin, executive vice president of global impact and philanthropy at the Sesame Workshop, “Sesame Street literally would not be here were it not for the bold vision and audacious philanthropy of the Carnegie Corporation.”
The iconic saguaro cactus is named after him, the plant, which is found only in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and Mexico, can live as long as 200 years and grow to be 45 feet tall. Its scientific name, Carnegiea gigantea, is a nod to Carnegie’s philanthropic contribution to botany: The Carnegie Institution, founded in 1902, helped establish the Desert Botanical Laboratory in Tucson in 1903.
One of Carnegie's major philanthropic efforts included donating 7600 of the instruments to churches across the United States. He also oversaw the installation of the 8600-pipe organ at Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh in 1895 and had pipe organs in his homes in New York and Scotland.
In keeping with his wealth philosophy, Carnegie left his wife Louise a small amount of money, as well as their properties in Manhattan and Scotland, when he died. His only child, a daughter named Margaret, received nothing but a small trust. She eventually had to sell the family townhome because it was too expensive to maintain. But that was it—the rest of his immense wealth went to his charitable causes and endowments.
You might think that that would cause some resentment on the part of his heirs, but they apparently all agreed to the arrangement well before Carnegie passed away.

Ohhh maybe something jerejean for jeans birthday???? - @sirfatcat-mccatterson
Jeremy quietly clears his throat.
Jean grimaces and peeks open a single eye, directing all of his nastiness at Jeremy with one gray eye bursting with malice. "Quoi, Jérémy?" he asks, voice raspy with sleep. He shifts beneath his blanket onto his side, shivering and tucking the material up to his chin when it falls and exposes his chest.
He watches the blond nervously bite at his lip and shift on his feet. He sighs, and Jean closes his eyes to fall back asleep, when he hears, "Joyeaux Anniversaire," in shoddy French.
This time both eyes fly open to glare daggers at Jeremy. "Did you tell the others?"
"No. I know how you value your privacy," Jeremy says quietly, suddenly looking unsure of himself.
He sits up, wrapping the blanket tight around himself, before scowling as he asks, "How did you know? Was it Kevin?"
Jeremy shakes his head no. Jean perks his brow, prompting an answer.
"You remember that last weekend I went back to visit my family?"
"Yes," Jean grimaces. "You were very sad and quiet when you came back. It was annoying. I like your smile." Jeremy lights up at the words and Jean's scowl deepens. "Do not read into that."
"I'm illiterate!" Jeremy says quickly, and maybe a little too loud. He covers his mouth with his own hand on Jean's behalf.
"Why is your family important to this story?"
Jeremy shuffles around on his feet for a few seconds before quietly saying, "I have a trust fund."
"Okay?"
"And I am allowed to use my money however I want."
"Jeremy, you did not buy me something stupid, did you?"
"Well, I was going to buy you a car, and then as I was looking into transferring the title I found out you have a conservatorship and and anything I tried to give you would be automatically given to--"
"Do not say a name," Jean mutters. His voice is flat. He already knows. He does not wish to hear it aloud.
"So, I..." Jeremy shifts his weight between his feet a few more times before producing a file folder he'd been holding behind his back. He crosses the room and holds it out to Jean, who takes it while still glaring him down. "I bought... you."
Jean's face pales. He stares at the blank front of the manila folder, a thousand thoughts racing through his mind at once. He swallows thickly, fingers trembling as he picks at the edges of the folder. "You own me, now," he says quietly. Kevin said Jeremy was supposed to be good people. Maybe they had different definitions of what that meant.
"What? No, wait--" Jeremy laughs awkwardly. "Nobody owns you. I paid off your family's debt and you're a free man."
Jean furrows his brow, staring hard at the folder in his hands. "What is this?"
"Your medical history, birth certificate, and the deeds to some property in France and some property in West Virginia."
Jean frowns, picking at the corner of the folder. "Did they mention someone named Elodie?" he asks quietly.
"They said that's who the property is from. It's uhm-- it was a death transfer," Jeremy whispers.
Jean nods, staring still at the blank vaguely yellow paper holding every notation of his entire life up to this point. "I should thank you, shouldn't I?" he asks quietly.
Jeremy drops to his knees in front of where Jean is sitting at the edge of his bed, warm hands settling against his thighs right before his knees. "I don't want your gratitude. It's everything you deserve just to be yourself and live your life."
"Jeremy--"
"No. Your present will come later today. This just happened to be delivered this morning. Finish sleeping in and meet us downstairs for some protein pancakes and then we will go to the gym. Just you and me."
Jean nods shakily. "Can you ask if Cat will let me ride her bike?"
"You should ask her. She has something for you."
Jean narrows his eyes at Jeremy's smile. "You said you didn't tell anyone."
"I may be a liar. But it's only them - how else could I float a random pancake breakfast for you?"
"You're on thin ice," Jean mumbles. He reaches for the hem of Jeremy's shirt before he can leave the room, unable to make eye contact. But he tugs at the material twice before looking from the blond to the folder in his lap.
Jeremy smiles, taking the gratitude for what it was, before brushing his knuckles against Jean's cheekbone. "Anything for you." He doesn't tell Jean how pretty he looks flustered this way, much as he wants to. He instead leaves the room silently once he is released, smiling invitingly at Jean before he shuts the door.

Anakin Skywalker was a great Jedi.
He was not a good Jedi. Not even remotely.
Same thing you say? No, not really.
It's a bit like the difference between being rich and being wealthy. They sound like they're the same thing, involving the same quantifier (money) but they're not.
Rich is when you have enough. Your job pays well, you own a nice house, a couple of cars, you and your family can save a nest egg and go on some nice holidays and stuff. Your kids have their college tuition paid, you can afford to support an elderly or disabled family member relatively well. Life is good.
But you still have to work. Your partner still has to work. Your kids, while they will be very well educated and have all the advantages, will still need to get a job to survive on their own. You make your money by the sweat of your labours - maybe more than you need, but it's still down to the work of your hands.
Wealthy? Wealthy is where you own such an enormous portfolio of properties, have such a collection of heirloom artefacts, have so many bloated trust funds that you could spend every single one of your living days do nothing and you'd still have enough money to live on and then some. So would your children. And your grandchildren.
The surgeon making six figures a year is rich. They guy that has the entire wing of the hospital the surgeon works in named after him is wealthy.
Which brings us back to Great Jedi versus Good Jedi. They sound the same, with the same quantifier (Jedi), but they're not.
Anakin Skywalker was a Great Jedi in the sense that his deeds would get written about in history books. Helped win a planet's freedom at nine. Mastered a saber at nineteen, in half the time any of his peers took. Apprenticed to the Order's premier negotiator. Was knighted after one-on-one combat with a Sith. Pilot, Warrior, Hero Without Fear - he talked the talk, he walked the walk. He was everything people thought a Jedi should be and was therefore a Great Jedi in the eyes on minds of the galaxy.
He was a complete failure at being a Good Jedi.
The smallest, weakest and most fumble fingered member of the creche was a better Good Jedi than he could even dream of being. The Archivist who had never passed a single saber test ever given to her was a better Good Jedi than him and all his prowess. The elderly old farmer who had spent their entire lives up to their neck in dirt and hadn't been involved in a single galactically vital peace treaty was a better Good Jedi than Anakin Skywalker could even begin to comprehend.
They all wanted it.
They wanted it.
They wanted to be Jedi.
That's not to say they never wanted other things; marriage, or children, or life outside of service. People want things. Even Jedi want things.
But they never wanted anything in the galaxy more than they wanted to be a Jedi. Being a Jedi was the one thing they were willing to give up everything else for. They understood that it was a big commitment, that it would ask a lot of them, and they looked at that choice with their eyes wide open, fully trained and educated onto what it would entail and said yes, this is what I want to be.
(And that's not unhealthy! That's not "repression". Is a priest or a nun repressed? Is an asexual or aromantic repressed? Is anyone who ever got a dream job that took them away from home, kin and country repressed, wrongheaded, brainwashed? Or have they looked at their options, have they been fully informed and educated on what the life they choose will mean for them and everyone around them and decided yes, this lifestyle, which is not like everyone else's, which may even separate me irrevocable from the mainstream, suits me. I don't need or want the rest of it as much as this. This is what I want).
Anakin Skywalker wanted to be a Jedi.
But he didn't want to be a Jedi more than he wanted anything else.
He could swing a lightsaber, he could quote esoteric tenets and philosophies, he could pilot a ship, he could perform a variety of Force techniques, he could more than hold his own in a fight.
None of these make a person a Good Jedi.
You have to want it. You have to want to be a Jedi, above all other things. The talent might make you Great but it's the wanting, the choice, that makes you Good. You have to look at it, all of it, clear eyed, and decide you want it.
And he... didn't.
He just lied and said he did. At first to himself.
And then, knowingly and willfully, to everyone else.
Until he wasn't even a Great Jedi anymore. He wasn't a Jedi at all.
And he still didn't get anything else he wanted either.

I am really looking forward to how they are going to adapt Lestat's backstory for TVL, esp the parts in Paris, because of how much show!Armand's telling of it has already differed vastly from the book. Like, we know he was embellishing and completely omitted Gabrielle but until I started re-reading TVL I'd forgotten just how much different these versions are right now.
like, just for reference, in the book:
When Lestat was kidnapped by Magnus and turned, he did not return to Nicki or Renaud's (the theater that would later become Theatre des Vampires) for a long time, and unlike what we saw in the flashback, he did not resume his role as Lelio (or the Harlequin, as the show changed it). The only time he did so was the single night he showed up to see Nicki and the troupe so they could thank him for the money and gifts he'd been providing to the theater, and scared the shit out of the audience when he used his vampire powers in a fit of mania to roar so loud it hurt everyone's ears and float on stage. This ruined the theater for him and it became a place of bad memories.
His relationship with Nicki was irreparably ruined once he was turned. The scene show!Armand recalled where he confronted Lestat and Nicki in the street would have never happened, as Lestat only returned and saw/spoke with Nicki a couple of times between when he was turned and when he turned Nicki. These interactions were largely resentful on Nicki's part, and ashamed/guilty on Lestat's and they otherwise avoided each other.
Lestat did not found Theatre Des Vampires!! Nicki did! Lestat used Magnus's riches to fund Renaud's and its troupe for a long time when he was staying away from them, while Nicki was still playing there. Then he closed it down, and sent the troupe off to London. When Lestat and Gabrielle disrupted The Children of Darkness and Armand set fire to the coven (something Armand left out of his telling in the show, obv), Lestat took pity on the four remaining coven members and let them use the old theater as a resting/hiding place. He and Gabrielle took Nicki there to try and break him of his silence and when Nicki became manic on the violin and attracted the coven members to him, Nicki proclaimed in spite and hatred for Lestat that he'd turn the theater into The Theater of Vampires, with the same reasoning Lestat used on Armand in the show, but spit back in Lestat's face (a new evil for a new age!). Lestat wanted nothing to do with it, and was coerced into handing over the deed to the theater, but not to Nicki, rather to Eleni (is this maybe Celeste in the show?) who he felt was the only responsible one he could trust.
Yeah did I mention it was Armand who burned his coven alive after Lestat came to rescue Nicki? Not 'they threw themselves in the fire' but he pushed them in and held them down lol, and burned the entombed vampires in the crypts too, and hunted down others who'd escaped.
I'll update this as I continue my re-read, I'm up to the part where they switch over to Armand's backstory.
But like, I'd forgotten just how AMAZING this book is, and how grateful I am that we have Rolin and the whole cast and crew who are passionate about these books and have done such an incredible job digesting and distilling what is really a very complex source material and doing it such justice on screen. I am giddy with excitement at seeing TVL adapted with Rolin at the helm. We're in good hands.

There are 86,400 seconds in a day
If you begin to see each day as a precious gift, an asset, a gold mine, a trust fund, an estate, a bequeathed land, a deed, a guarantee, or a well what would you do with it? Now, what would you do with 86,400 seconds x 365 days = 31,572,500 seconds
If we all equated our time to a precious currency, I wonder how we will spend it?

WIP Wednesday (on a Wednesday!)
I did this. I chose to make Kaz Brekker an actual character in my historical Wesper romantasy. So now, as an homage to Crooked Kingdom, I have to write him scheming up a scheme probably I won't even understand...
"Pekka Rollins?!" cried Jesper, as disbelief at what he was hearing made him forget momentarily the six foot five Fjerdan barrelling towards him and wielding a sword. Too late Jesper side-stepped. Steel glanced his cheek. The blade sliced the air. Momentum carried Matthias's feet forward, and the not-inconsiderable force he had put behind his weapon got buried in a pine tree with a shrill-sounding 'thunk'. Pekka Rollins engaged to Lord Wylan! It was too ridiculous. Kaz was mistaken. His source was feeding him lies. Kaz must be wrong. Though he never had been before... "Mind your stance," came a flat voice across the clearing to where Jesper stood shaking. Kaz was sitting stately on a felled tree, and barely looked up from the sheaf of paper he held in his hand. At least Matthias had assured himself Jesper suffered no real injury, before bracing his foot against a boulder and trying to retrieve his broadsword from its wooden sheath. "You must carry your weight evenly, Jesper," Kaz continued, with a spectacular air of indifference, "and stop leaning so hard on your left foot. You forget all that we've practiced these last weeks. Control the things you can and do not allow yourself to become distracted." Distracted... That was too much for Jesper. How had Kaz expected him to react? Pekka Rollins name should not be uttered in the same breath as Lord Wylan's. His Wylan. Pekka Rollins was a criminal - that he was still allowed walk free in Kerch did not change that. Out of all of them it was Kaz alone who had borne the full brunt of Pekka Rollins actions. Jesper turned towards him, with narrowed eyes and a cheek still smarting, wondering how Kaz could sit there, with his bad leg stretched out before him, and speak of Rollins so coldly. Jesper had only heard stories of Rollins: A Kaelish skin trader, who had escaped his grandfather's justice and fled The Wandering Isle. Matthias knew him as a war profiteer, who had used Kerch neutrality to sell to both sides. To the detriment of those operating the gun carriages, the black powder he supplied had a tendency to explode outwards. Rollins name had become notorious. But Kaz had actually met the man. Pekka Rollins was the swindler Jordie Rietveld had trusted to turn his quietly growing savings into exponential wealth. Rollins had sold sovereign bonds, and though Prince Dietmar's royal seal was there on each deed of payment, like a cherry squashed between the parchment, when the time came to draw down dividends, the officer of the treasury had never heard of the scheme. Kaz's schooling ended. He travelled to Ravka to become a mercenary. And when lack of funds prevented him from seeking the help of a healer for the foot long gash dealt him by the losing party in a duel, the infection spread and settled resolutely in his bones. Usually when Kaz spoke of Rollins it was with blood between his teeth. This calculated calm was eerie. Jesper would know the meaning of it. "Is it any wonder I lost focus, Kaz? Does this information seem to you at all... peculiar? The Duke of Belendt's son was set to marry a common criminal? This is Pekka Rollins we are speaking of! Why are you not more distracted?" "I am wondering at that too, Rietveld," called out the voice of Matthias. The stinging scent of pine sap filled the air, telling Jesper that Matthias had recovered his weapon. He took his place at Jesper's side looking as suspicious as Jesper felt. "Usually at this point you would be setting fire to something." Kaz's lip curled. "And who says that I am not?"
Soft tagging @dreamtigress in return for many many tags... :)

Contact me direct for more information. [email protected] Mrs Marion Gasby. [email protected]
thank you i priomise to invest all your charitable donation into inventing cigars with fun facts printed on them for kids and maybe dogs
