so many entrenched fantasy tropes are implicitly or explicitly racist ideas already like this is not a lampshade that needs hanging. and it's so baffling to me how frequently writers introduce characters' fantasy racism as a quirk/a flaw that never gets seriously addressed. actually it's really not on the same level as, like, being kind of selfish, and when it's 'explained' in the way you would a normal character flaw by introducing some past trauma or whatever it's not a good look either. that doesn't make it better! most racists are actually racist because they live in a racist society, benefit from racism, and use people of color as scapegoats, not because they got the shit kicked out of them by a person of color and this was the sole catalyst that ruined their life. like the whole idea is that it's supposed to add depth and realism to the world and what it indicates is that the writers do not actually understand what racism is like in reality

we have to take immersive fantasy racist microaggressions out of writers' hands forever
