(A/N) Once again tried to capture a more silly side of this franchise. Hope you like it!

Pairing: Simon x Reader (no Y/N)

Warning: mentions of alcohol, Reader and Soap being drunk little idiots

Synopsis: When will they learn that alcohol, Soap and you aren't a good combo?

“Where did those two idiots run off to again?”

Price sighed, annoyance mixed with a bit of concern clear on his face. Simon on the other hand was hiding a small smile under his mask. After all, by now they should really now better. Leaving you and Soap alone? In a bar? With alcohol? Grave mistake. And to be honest, Simon had learned.

While everyone was packed in the car on their way to the bar, he had slipped a GPS tracker into your pocket, knowing that it’d probably come in handy at some point during the night. So, while Price was looking around, he just lazily pulled out his phone and opened the app that was connected to the tracker.

“They are three blocks away on the playground.”

Price looked up, one of his brows raised.

“Have you finally implanted them with a tracker?”

Simon chuckled and shook his head, instead admitting that he slipped you one during the car ride. As the older man chuckled in surprise, they began to make their way to your location, leaving Gaz in the bar. It didn’t take them long to reach the two of you, and what they saw didn’t really surprise them.

While you were sitting on a swing, going almost high enough to make a loop, Soap was on top of a slide. But he was not sitting down, instead, he held onto the bar, took a few steps back, and then rushed towards it, trying to duck underneath, but he just ended up hitting his forehead and falling down the slide. This sight immediately made you laugh and in your amusement, you let go of the chains on either side of you, plummeting off the swing and landing on your back.

By then, the two men were close enough to hear the quiet ‘oof’ escaping your lips as you made contact with the padded ground. Simon couldn’t help but chuckle as he gazed at your form, lying on the ground, a defeated look on your face. But as soon as he stepped up to you, your eyes lit up and a bright smile spread on your lips.

“Si!”

You had yelled his name loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear, making him roll his eyes. But with the way you were looking at him, he couldn’t be mad.

“What are you doing on the ground, sweetheart?”

Of course, he knew exactly why you were lying there, specks of dirt in your hair.

“Fell.”

You started to pout, making the man above you smirk. You were adorable as a drunk. But he would never admit how much he loved you…like that of course. Not in general. Simon doesn’t do love, of course, he doesn’t. Who do you think he is? He-

His thoughts stopped instantly as you reached up with both hands, making a grabbing motion in his direction. With a quiet sigh, he reached down, thinking that you’d want him to help you up. But instead, you used the surprise and all of your strength to pull him down beside him. As his heavy body hit the ground right beside you, a loud grunt escaped his lips.

If it was anyone else - hell even if it was Johnny - he would properly curse them out, but your quiet giggling immediately calmed him down again. He glanced at you, your eyes were pressed closed as tears escaped from the corner, while your mouth was open, trying to inhale. You were a sight to behold. And Simon immediately burned it into his brain, wanting to always remember you like that.

“Well, she got you Lt.”

Price had by now helped Soap to his feet and was holding him by the scruff of his neck. Simon nodded and sighed as he fully laid down.

“You two go on ahead, we’ll meet you at the bar later.”

Price nodded, quickly dragging the Scotsman away, while he complained about why you were allowed to stay. Both of you watched the two walk away until they were out of sight. Once you were alone, you turned to look at Simon, a soft smile on your face.

“Hi.”

Simon turned his head, his own smile, as per usual, hidden.

“Hi there.”

With a grin, you rolled onto your side and hugged the Lieutenant, laying your head on his chest. Simon knew that you were drunk and that that was probably the only reason you were behaving like that, but he still couldn’t keep his heart from beating quicker and his cheeks from heating up.

“You okay?”

You nodded against the hoodie covering his chest and sighed in contentment, enjoying his presence. Slowly, as if afraid to scare you, Simon wrapped his arm around you, pulling you even closer. You spent a few minutes like this, just lying there and enjoying each other’s presence. Until you got an idea. A few feet away, there was a basket swing and you just had to drag Simon there.

So, you quickly scrambled to your feet, more or less elegant, and reached out to drag Simon up as well. Not that you could actually do that without his help. But you once again had that spark in your eyes and Simon knew that in that moment, he would do whatever you asked of him. But you didn’t even say anything, just pointed at the swing and dragged him over, before pushing him to lay down in it.

It was uncomfortable, to say the least, but you quickly got the swing in motion, before scrambling on top of Simon and laying down again. As if you cuddling into his side earlier wasn’t enough for one day, you lying down on top of him, as if it’s the most natural thing in the entire world, made him think he was about to have a heart attack.

But you just relaxed against his body, closed your eyes as your head rested just above his heart. And as the swing gently swayed back and forth, you slowly fell asleep.

A few hours later

As soon as Simon heard the familiar walking pattern, he knew that he was saved. You had fallen asleep about two hours ago and since then, he had not dared to move a muscle. He had lost all feeling in his legs and his back was screaming in pain, but he didn’t want to disturb you, so he stayed still.

“Would you look at that.”

Simon rolled his eyes as he heard his Captain’s booming laughter fill the air, chuckles from the others in the background. But as you started to shift, he carefully raised his head to shush at them, not wanting you to wake up. After the rest of the team had gotten their fill of chuckles and pictures, some Simon would want send to him afterward, they finally helped. Gaz and Price carefully lifted you, while Soap helped the poor man to his feet. It took a few minutes for Simon to start walking properly again, but as soon as he was steady, he insisted on carrying you back to the car.

Once the team had reached the base, Simon carried you to your room and quickly changed your clothes, so you would be more comfortable during the night. He also grabbed a bottle of water, as well as some painkillers, and placed them on your nightstand before carrying over his mattress, pillows, and blanket and placing everything beside your bed. He wanted to be there if you needed anything during the night.

Now

Price lowered the microphone from his lips and grinned at you and Simon. While you were laughing hard enough for tears to escape your eyes, your husband was a blushing mess beside you. When he had asked Price to be his best man, that was not what he had expected.

The rest of the wedding guests were also laughing, but before Price could continue his speech, Simon grabbed the mic and turned it off, instead yelling to the DJ that it was time for the first dance. You chuckled as he pulled you to your feet and out onto the dancefloor.

The lights quickly dimmed and a beautiful slow song started playing as the two of you started softly swaying.

“Goddamnit.”

You giggled and gently stroked Simon’s cheek, which felt way too warm underneath your fingers.

“You basically asked for this, you know?”

He grumbled something before hiding his face in your neck, placing soft kisses there. You shivered under his touch and tried to pull him away from your skin, warning that everyone was looking. He pulled back, a mischievous grin on his lips.

“So what?”

Before you could answer, he hoisted you up and threw you over his shoulder, before running out of the room and searching until he found the utility closet. You were giggling the whole time, waving as the curious eyes of your guests followed the two of you. Simon gently sat you down on a random table and moved to stand between your legs.

You grinned up at him, before pulling him down and crashing your lips to his. What can you say? The guests would be able to entertain themselves for half an hour. Right?

♥️Reveling in Richonne - TOWL

#57: The Father (1.06)

There are so many qualities I love about the character of Rick Grimes. A king among men. 👑 And one of my absolute favorite things about him is that he's such a good loving father. And in this following moving scene, we get to see Rick open up to Michonne about just how he feels not getting to be a father to his kids all these years 🥺...

But first, there's that suspenseful elevator moment. 😬

Rick hurries into an elevator with the last light of the world’s leader stuffed inside a crate. 😅 And as he waits for the doors to close, a tall soldier comes walking in to stand beside him.

And then it’s very tense as the two silently wait side by side while the elevator trudges its way down several floors. Rick then looks down and notices that blood is leaking from the crate which just ramps up the suspense even more.

Meanwhile, Michonne has made it outside - and I just have to note that her face card doesn’t even decline when covered in a helmet and mask. 💯

Michonne is obviously very conflicted after what she’s just seen in the auditorium and she knows they have to do something about it and fast. So after getting outside, she makes her way back inside like...

And the Baddest Chick in the Game also grabs some bombs while she’s at it. 💣

Meanwhile, in the elevator, the blood is still leaking from the container and just when the doors open, the soldier notices. 😬 So Rick is forced to go toe to toe with him.

And the one good thing the CRM did was give Rick some improved hand-to-hand combat skills. 👌🏽 I know some people be getting on that man for often finding himself on the losing end of a fisticuffs but hey he always came out on top of those TWD fights too. 😌

But now, Rick stayed in control for most of this fight with the CRM soldier and that had me so proud of him. He’s come a long way in this area so I'm just sitting here watching like...

Rick quite savagely beats the guy's face in until he’s dead and this is definitely that feral Rick we saw often in TWD.

When the doors open, Rick looks like he’s ready to just keep taking down CRM folk, but he quickly realizes the soldier in front of him is actually his wife when Michonne says his name.

And y’all, Richonne really are certifiably crazy because the way Michonne doesn’t even react to Rick covered in blood or the bloodied body on the ground. It’s just another day at the office for them. 😅

Michonne says they can’t go home yet and asks if he knows what the CRM is planning. Rick says he got the echelon but he’s more curious how Michonne found him right now. Me personally, I’ll just chalk it up to thinking soulmates like them can always find each other because they come with innate GPS trackers lol.

Michonne informs Rick that the CRM has a whole tent of bombs outside and that they’re going to be evacuating the kids and then taking out a whole city of people. Rick replies saying, “This is happening now. We can still get home, but not yet.”

I love that Rick’s now at a point where going home stays a part of the plan no matter what.  And Michonne says, “We have to stop them because we can stop them.” And of course, they both know and believe they’re capable of handling this just the two of them.

Then there’s a great little moment of levity when Michonne notices the crate and casually asks Rick if it's his.

Michonne asks, "Is this yours?" and Rick's just like “Yeah.” Since he doesn’t elaborate further about the Beale-in-a-box, Michonne asks, “What’s in it?”

And the wordless ‘it’s complicated’ look Rick gives her is comedy.🤭 Something about this exchange between them was truly giving married and I’m here for it. 😁

And then y’all, after being entirely too late to the party, Pearl finally starts to become suspicious that something is up with her big brother Grimes. She sees that Beale isn’t in fact in the woods like Rick says so she goes off to investigate. 

Next, there's a very heartfelt scene as Rick and Michonne are alone in a room to set up their plan to stop the CRM. 🥲

Rick asks Michonne how she came up with this explosive idea and Michonne, always one to honor Nat’s memory, says, “Took some inspiration from the genius known as Nat.”

After what the CRM did to him and his friends, I know Nat is looking down from above so proud of Michonne for using his techniques to take these soldiers down. Nat still got his payback like he wanted. 😌

Also, seeing Richonne both in the red-striped CRM uniforms, I like how this episode has them in matching outfits for most of the duration. Having matched in similar clothes and colors a lot within this franchise, it just feels right for Rick and Michonne to be matching in the finale too. 

As Rick packs, he tells Michonne, “You know, Beale said I could lead the CRM one day.” There's something interesting to me about how, from all the things shared in the echelon briefing, Rick brings this specific point up.

It leads to a great and underrated moment, as Michonne just has a playfully sarcastic response saying, “Guess you were right. You could do this all by yourself” before giving Rick a very communicative look that says 'the CRM is not keeping my man any longer.' And then Rick has a sweet subtle smile back at her. 🥹

The reason I feel this quick smile moment is great is because many at the CRM have tried to tell Rick what he’s supposed to do and who he’s supposed to be these last seven or so years. Telling him that he has this power and he has to use it in the ways they deem fit. But Rick never wanted any of that. As he said in season 9, he really didn’t ask anyone to follow him. He's always, from Day One of TWD, viewed himself as just a man who wants to be with his family.

And so here when Rick brings up that Beale also felt he should use his natural-born leadership to take on a position of power that he doesn’t really want to take on, there is something so refreshing to him about Michonne just knowing he doesn’t want that and so he doesn’t have to do it. And especially doesn't have to do it alone. She's always let him know they're in this together.

So I always interpret his smile reaction as Rick feeling really appreciative that for the first time in a long time someone isn’t forcing that leadership role on him.

And after enduring so much alone, I love that he knows that now that he has Michonne back, he really won’t have to take on things by himself anymore. He and Michonne get to return to reordering things together like Rick most wanted. 👌🏽

And after his wife so welcomingly frees him from those CRM leadership expectations, Rick then gives some insight into what he actually wants when he says, “We could just go.”

What Rick wants most of all is to finally make it home and just live life with his family and I feel like because that reality is now more tangible than it’s ever been, there’s likely a part of him that doesn’t want to risk this CRM plan getting in the way of them making it home.

(Side note: I've touched on it before but just had to reiterate here that, contrary to some out there's belief, a lethal fighting machine is not all Rick is and it's not how this character wants to operate if he doesn't have to. I think Rick has been shown to be someone that would be fully content living a domestic everyday life that never again requires returning to intense fight mode. Savage Rick is certainly a part of him, but all the savage stuff he's done and does is to protect the family he wants to live a peaceful normal life with. Being a husband and father is Rick's core want and driving motivator. Which is why making TOWL about Rick getting to his wife and kids rather than just a guns-a-blazing fight against bad guys was the right choice.

And when Rick got taken from his family, he didn't spend those years pursuing some new motivation to obtain power or world domination like some want him to seek. He chose to die. Without his wife and kids, he'd rather be dead. That was made quite clear. And even when Rick agreed to Okafor's mission it had so much to do with wanting to save the world for his family, even if they never knew he did that. So it makes sense that TOWL would then have to be a more contained story and focus on Rick returning to his love and to himself after losing himself so deeply because he lost his family. And I love that in finding his family, his everything, Michonne, Rick really does return to himself - both the part of him that's a resilient fighter and the part of him that's willing to be admirably vulnerable.)

Michonne looks up at him and Rick says, “This is…” and I’m sure he was going to in some way express how risky this is, but Michonne finishes the sentence saying this is “...what we have to do. What sort of world are we making for them if we walk away from something like this?” And that always just hits my heart to hear her say 'for them' because she’s talking about their babies. 😭

And then my heart gets hit even more when Rick also talks about their babies as he opens up saying, “You know…I’m mad at the time I missed. Not seeing our kids growing up.” First of all - 🥺🥺🥺.

I think part of coming back alive again means also having a whole lot of suppressed feelings rise back up to the surface. So it’s meaningful for Rick to now acknowledge that part of what he feels is mad that he missed so much time with his kids.

And especially knowing it was Rick who presented the idea of him and Michonne building for the future with a baby all those years ago, and now he's had to learn that he got what he wanted but missed out on so much of that baby's early years. That has to hurt. 😞

When Rick was taken, Judith was so young too so he missed a lot of early milestones in both his kids' lives. I know he would have given anything to be there loving them and raising them during such formative years of their lives. 🥲

Being a father has always been so important to him and so you know it weighs heavily on him that he was kept from being the dad his kids needed and from getting to be by Michonne’s side, raising their son and daughter together, and enjoying all the great moments of their kids growing up. 🥺

And again, hearing Richonne say “our kids” is music to my ears every time. I think too, after hearing the echelon briefing, the last remains of the CRM’s facade just came tumbling down to Rick because in some ways Beale sounded a little paranoid and crazy rather than saying anything concrete. So that has to just make it extra hard for Rick to feel like the CRM kept him from his babies all these years because of their warped paranoid belief system. 

Rick then says, “I know we can’t, but I just…I think about that time and I just want to go back.” Annnnd cue my tears. This got me, y’all. 😭

The emotion he feels when he says this. 🥺 This is a father whose heart breaks over the invaluable time he’s lost with kids and that breaks my heart. 💔

It’s super moving to see Rick have this moment of vulnerability with Michonne. One of the things that has always made the character of Rick Grimes so great and compelling is that he’s willing to be emotionally vulnerable. Being in tune with what he feels contributes so much to his strength as a man and as a character.

And I like how there’s layers to him saying he just wants to go back. It’s like he longs to just go back home right now but he also longs to just go back in time and be there with his family during all the years he missed.

He should’ve had the chance to be with his babies. 😔 Rick deserved that. But while they unfortunately can’t go back in time, Michonne is here to help Rick shift his perspective with what she says next. 👌🏽

As Rick looks at her with tears in his eyes, Michonne instantly feels for him. I think about how in the TWD 'Scars' episode there was a scene where Michonne watches Judith and some kids play a game and she tells Aaron how she wishes Rick could see this.

Michonne knows how much she too wishes Rick could have been there all those years seeing their kids grow up. And it clearly moves her to now hear Rick express that same desire to have been there. 🥺

Also, I was thinking about how another reason it was so fitting for Rick to have said that Michonne puts pieces back together during the proposal is because when their family experienced brokenness with the loss of Carl and Rick being taken, it was Michonne who had to hold the rest of their family together.

And it makes me so happy that now Michonne won't have to do that alone anymore because Rick is willing, ready, and eager to return to being part of their family.

I love the way Michonne looks at Rick and then drops what she's doing to go over to him and kiss him. Those were some loud and clear ‘I love you’ kisses, y’all. 💯😊 See, Michonne stays saying I love you without even having to say it.

This was just the type of love and connection Rick needed at this moment. And it’s sweet how Michonne is so comforting as she keeps Rick's face in her hands and assures him, “We are back.” 🥹

It can be understandably tempting to be saddened by the past, but I think it’s really nice how Michonne reframes this to let Rick know they’re back now. And the present and future still hold a lot of opportunities for them to make it back to their family and spend lots of time with them the way they’re meant to.

Rick of course resonates with Michonne saying this and then, true to them, he repeats her words from earlier back - knowing that saving people and stopping the CRM from bombing a whole city is what they do. And Michonne affirms that by saying “Yes it is.”

I always love the way Rick looks at Michonne at this moment because as draining as it clearly is for him to fight all these battles, he always can get a fresh sense of strength when in her arms. And she's so tender with him as she rubs his face. 🥲

And then y’all know being a richonner means being spoiled, so this really sweet scene ends with the two passionately kissing and wrapping each other in their arms once again. Look at our lovely and crazy little lovebirds all making out in their Richonne bubble before they blow stuff up. 😊

Like if I’m supposed to get over the fact that a show exists where Richonne kisses 100+ times, it’s not gonna happen. I’ll never be over it.😇

Every time they kiss it just makes me think about how these are two people who didn't know if this type of love would ever find them after what they had lost. And then not only did love find them, but the greatest and strongest love of all found them when they found each other. And it's everything Rick and Michonne deserve.

This final makeout is really sweet too because it's just so clear that Rick and Michonne both get so much comfort from each other. No matter what else is going on, they can always lock in with each other and find their center.

With this kiss, it's also clear that they're very grateful to finally be back in each other's presence after being deprived of each other for years. The sad days of being apart are over, and they cherish knowing they'll get to be by each other's side from here on out.

I’ll always love this scene for giving Rick and Michonne a genuinely touching heart-to-heart as parents and protectors and as two people who know they can always express their rawest feelings to one another.

Hearing Rick reflect as a father about how he feels having missed all this time with his kids was something I was hoping for when TOWL was announced. And I really appreciate how that was addressed in this touching scene. 👌🏽🥹❤️‍🩹

— Sampo is a man of many talents, scamming people, running away, earning money, scamming people, did I mention running away? Having a boyfriend has its perks, especially if they’re rich.

—It’s a good thing you have cameras and trackers so you can prepare for something like this. It’s how you knew he was coming to penacony and put his name under your reservation as well.

Your boyfriend doesn’t mean to come to your hotel room in the middle of the night during his one night stay in penacony. And it’s not like he purposely brought up your name to the hotel staff in order to get the key card to your room and access to the vvip facilities. It’s not like you mind though, you love him, though some might say a little too much. You constantly bail him out of monetary trouble and provide him a place to stay when he doesn’t have his own sometimes. And honestly, it’s better he stay with you then some rando, he could get hurt! :(

Opening the door you’re faced with Sampo, and he looks tired, like he’s been running. “You wouldn’t mind if I came in would ya?” He walks in the room and takes a seat on the couch, “When did you get here love? I didn’t know you were coming to penacony.” You ask, making your way towards the couch. And technically you didn’t, it was just an…educated guess. “I thought I’d visit you is all, wouldn’t wanna leave my beloved boyfriend all alone right?” Of course you know he came here for work related purposes but that’s not important right now. You let out a little chuckle and say “I guess not, but are you alright?” While you could track him it’s not like you had cameras on him, that wouldn’t give him any privacy which isn’t what you want at all. “I ran into a bit of trouble with a few folks but nothing your dear old Sampo couldn’t handle.” And noticing the worried expression coming onto your face he decides to put his head in your lap, not wanting to answer any questions right now. Did I mention he knows he’s your weakness? No? Well now I did.

—You and Sampo spent the next few days checking out the dreamscape and spending copious amounts of money. Mostly buying Sampo gifts and food. Sitting in the hotel room Sampo said he wanted to go out to say hello to a friend. After asking more than a few questions you had let him go, telling him to be quick. Though it’s a bit weird that his gps said he was leaving penacony, don’t you think?

—You almost forgot, the reason you came to penacony was to make more money. Like your mother always said, you can never have too much money.

“We should go gambling! It’ll be fun don’t you think?” You asked, you had been in the dreamscape for a while and noticed the casino. Unfortunately Sampo declined your offer, saying he saw a few friends of his. (Thank god this wasn’t your Sampo, or else you would’ve lost it.) Looking around there were many fun characters and games to bet your money, however one in particular caught your eye.

As you got closer to the table you were able to hear the whispers of the people watching. “How does he keep winning?” “He must be cheating!” “What incredible luck.” Pushing past people to get to the front you noticed a man with yellow hair and a peacock like color palette, and as you watched, you witnessed him win again and again. Only deciding after the third win, that you had to join in.

I got distracted so this took waaaay longer than it should’ve. I’m sorry! I hope you like the little cameo, and yes this does take place a little bit before the penacony story line and sparkle and Sampo do switch places while he’s “saying hello to a friend”. - Dapper absolutely has a cane that has a head of a bird as the top of it. Bonus: that cane can transform into his eagle

Yellowjackets is a show about trauma. I don't know what else to tell you.

Alright, blood hive, here we go again.

We're about halfway through season 2 at this point, and I remain more convinced than ever that a large portion of the viewing public is not fundamentally listening to what the wilderness the showrunners are trying to say. If you're looking for a singular capital-R Reason for everything we see in the show, you're looking at the wrong stuff. So here are some more thoughts.

(Spoilers for all of Yellowjackets up to S2E5, "Two Truths and a Lie")

One: Yellowjackets is a show about trauma and its relationship to magical thinking.

I get another grey hair every time I see someone trying to puzzle out just what is in the woods.

There's nothing in the woods, y'all. Nothing. Until I'm proven wrong by the show itself, this is the hill I will stubbornly die on. But show has been EXTREMELY consistent this whole time in its ambiguity, and in my opinion anyone using the red string and thumbtacks approach to Yellowjackets is being played for a fool. It doesn’t matter if there’s actually an entity in the woods (there isn’t), or if Lottie actually has powers (she doesn’t); what matters is that the survivors are clinging to any answers they can grasp in a situation full of unknowns, and so are we. Part of what’s so devastating about their plight is that there’s no real reason for any of it. This is the basis for literally every religion humans have ever had; we’ve been grasping at ritual and magical thinking for millennia. We are observing the growth of that dependence and ritual right now, in the second season. We are also seeing the consequences of that situation in the future. We are seeing how the power of thought can provide both comfort and further trauma.

I suspect that we will never learn the meaning behind the mysterious symbol. I've seen theories that it's a witch's mark, or even that it's a miner's signal and that all the weird stuff happening to the Yellowjackets is the result of mercury poisoning because they're inadvertently on top of an old mine. That's a nice theory, but I don't think it's correct, and I also don't think it should be revealed anyway. It doesn't ultimately matter what the symbol meant to the dead guy or his cabin; what matters is what the symbol represents for the Yellowjackets themselves.

Two: Yellowjackets is a show about trauma and the way it twists the unknown.

I am fascinated but frustrated by the apparent age split with fans. It seems to me that there's a pretty good-sized gap between the older fans of the show, who would have been kids/teenagers in the 90s (including me), and the gen Z viewers, the latter of which seem unable to really really understand just how wild the wilderness is. The generational split here is with those who remember how VCRs work because we had them and those who have never needed to know. It's a split between we who went through our primary school years without access to Wikipedia and those who have had the wealth of human knowledge in their pockets since they were children.

I’ve watched people do all sorts of questioning and speculating, and it almost always traces back to whether or not you understand how the world worked before smartphones, AKA most of human history. Let me answer some of those questions right now off the top of my head:

How could the Yellowjackets not be found for 19 months?

People used to just fucking vanish, fam. We did not have GPS, we did not have trackers, we barely had battery-powered walkmen. People vanished all the time, and were never ever seen again. Sometimes they did it on purpose, and a lot of the time they disappeared by accident or malice, and a lot of times they died. 1996 doesn't seem that long ago in terms of technology, but it is. People still go missing to this day, even with all our tech tracking us everywhere. Canada is fucking huge and a lot of it is mostly wilderness. Here's a photo I found from Statistics Canada with the population density of Ontario; the black areas represent places where there's basically goddamn nothing but wilderness.

2. How was there no road to the Cabin Guy's Cabin? How did he get there? How did he get supplies there?

He had a plane, and also, once again: people used to disappear all the time. In his case, he seems to have done it on purpose.

3. How could Shauna possibly deliver a child in those conditions? How could the baby be getting the nutrients it needs?

People did this successfully for tens of thousands of years, you guys. You're literally reading this post because our ancestors successfully birthed children in the middle of fucking nowhere with zero medical aid or support.

4. How could Lottie know about the bear or the starlings or or or...?

Easy: she doesn't. Not entirely, anyway. She's an empathetic person who's really good at dealing with the emotions of other people and has a sense of spirituality that appears brave and confident, and people in dire situations with a lot of chaos will depend on that with their lives.

And speaking of Lottie...

Three: Yellowjackets is a show about trauma and how it forces you to transform.

At the end of last season I believed that we were going to get a Lottie Villain Era, just like everyone else. I do not believe that now.

Everything we have seen of Lottie shows a girl who was subjected to medical abuse and/or neglect from a very very young age. Regardless of her actual powers or lack thereof, she was placed on medication by her parents and didn't come off of it until she was in a super traumatizing situation in the wilderness. During this most recent season, we have seen both Teenage and Adult Lottie struggle with her role as a spiritual leader and advisor; she's good at it, but it drains her. It isn't something she's doing out of a desire for power or control: it's something she's doing as a trauma response. That trauma response is helping others, so she keeps doing it, but it's still a trauma response. Trauma transforms you into somebody new, over and over again. The scars you bear become your armor, and then your mask, and then it's hard to know where you end and the trauma begins.

Taissa, too, is transformed by trauma. Her other self is a trauma response, similar to alters in a DID system. It comes to the front when Taissa can't deal, and it's both helpful and harmful. I'm willing to bet a lot of her college years were spent sleepwalking, as the Other One dealt with exams and soccer games and law school. Any one of us with dissociative trauma responses can speak to the way that dissociation can be a savior and an abuser in the same breath.

Four: Yellowjackets is a show about trauma and how it compounds on itself.

This most recent episode showed Natalie coming to a realization about the last time she saw Travis, and she says the words we've heard in the season trailers: there was something in the woods, something they brought back with them. Or maybe it was in them the whole time.

In my previous essay I talked about how each Yellowjacket arrived in the woods with her own traumas strapped to her back. In my mind, that's what Natalie is talking about. There is no entity in the woods to blame for all of this, no ghost or witch who can be credited with the trauma the girls experienced and inflicted. There is only the trauma itself, in all its many shapes and sizes, in all the ways it fills in the gaps and makes shadows dance by firelight and drives us to the very brink of madness, holding us back by a fraying tether.

Yellowjackets is a show about trauma. The show's theme song rings out every episode: No return, no return, no reason. There is no return to the way things were. There is no return that can erase what you've been through. There is no reason for all of this, except for the one that's been very explicitly outlined via themes and story and dialogue and flashbacks and framing.

Yellowjackets is a show about trauma. It's the only answer we have, and I suspect--and hope--that it's the only answer we're ever going to get.

It had been a full week since Kafka had been taken into custody and transfered to Ariake Rinkai base, the centeral base of operation for the Defense Force located in Tokyo. An entire week full of complete worry for Rider and their Monstie companions. Reno had taken to keeping a close eye on Rider to make sure they were ok, along with the constant check ups from Kikoru on their physical and mental health. Rider was thankfull to have friends like them and they kept Rider constantly updated on all the information they had on Kafka's status and potential release. Appearently the debates that raged on within the main base were like an unstoppable force aganist an inmovable object. The Third Division and Science Department, along with top Smith's from the Core all went to bat for Kafka's withdraw of the excution order along with his release into a joint watch under the Third Divison and Science Department. There case had been strong with Kafka's actions as a Defense Force Trooper and No.8 as proof that Kafka was a trusted ally and not someone to be seen as an enemy.

The top brass of the Defense Force disagreed with all there statements and were adament about an excution of the Humanoid Kaiju, they even put forward talks of weaponizing No.8. This was met with an adament push back of the 3 Division and Science Department, even the top brass of the Smithing Core made a unprecedented move of saying if they killed No.8 then the Smithing Core would not make a weapon out of Kaiju No.8.

The week was nothing short of Hell for both sides, as the decision seemed to be in utter turmoil. All this information gave Rider renewed hope that people were defending and cheering for Kafka, but that hope was dampend by the immesurable stubborness of the Defense Force Head Generals.

The breaking point for Rider was when Kikoru confided in Reno and Rider about the conversation she had with her father. The Director General himseld Isao Shinomiya, the conversation went horribly as her father refused to see the man and only saw the Kaiju he swore to destroy. That was it, Rider's nerves were to shoot after recieving that knowledge from Kikoru. The Defense Force Generals just refused to listen, at this rate Kafka's fate would be sealed. They had to do something and this is were they had an idea, one they sought to enact with the help of Ratha and Houdini, as Rider never to told Reno and Kikoru, they ended up putting a gps tracker on the bottom of the truck ( thank Houdini for that) they knew exactly were Kafka was being kept.

Rider: Ratha, Houdini we're going to go help our friend.

A grotesque snapping sound echoed throughout the fortified room. Kafka felt all the wind knocked out of him through that single punch and the one behind the punch was the Director General of the Defense Force himself, Isao Shinomiya. For whatever reason the General had taken it upon himself to dispose of Kafka. From what Kafka could tell the General was trying to push him to his limit and make him transform into his Kaiju form. Wether it was to test Kafka to see if he was still Kafka Hibino or another Monster that needed to be exterminated, he couldn't tell.

The only thing he knew was that he needed to survive and convince the General that he was not only still on the Defense Forces side but the humanity within him was still there and as strong as ever.

Unfortunately the General didn't give him a chance to plead his case, as he only increased his devasting assault on Kafka.

Kafka: * Thoughts* This bad! His strikes only countinue to increase in power, the only way to take them is to fully transform, but that would defeat what he was trying to improve to the General so what....!

An idea hit Kafka, one that he should have thought of as soon as the fight started and just in time to. As General Shinomiya took another devasting swing towards him, crossing his arms and planting his feet into the ground Kafka stood tall to take the attack.

* Boooooommmm*

An echoing boom rang out, heavely destroying the ground and causing the walls to gain fissure along them. Dust filled the air obsecuring the General's sight, releasing a shockwave from his gauntlets to clear the dust, they were met with a sight that caused the control room to lose there minds, and make the General raise an eyebrow in mild surprise.

Instead of being met with Kafka's arms being annhilated and his legs in a state of disrepair. Kafka stood tall having augmented his arms and legs to take the attack and still be ok.

Kafka: * Thoughts* A Diablos's scales for my arms, and a Gammoth's toes and pads for my feet, along with changing my leg structure to a Gammoth's leg structure. A harsh Defense to take on a harsh punch.

General Shinomiya merely let out a huff " So you morphed your body parts into something that could take the attack smart, however " gets back into a fighting stance" it won't help you.

Kafka: General Shinomiya!!! Please listen to me, I'm not your enemy, not the Defense Forces, not the citizens of Japan, I want to prot-"

Kafka cut himself off as his instincts screamed danger, in a flash the General was on top of him ready to deliever another devasting rush of punchs. Acting quickly Kafka changed his leg structure to that of a Nargacuga and rocketed upwards completely avoiding the attack, shifting his arms to that of a Tigrex, he buried his claws into the celling and looked down to meet General Shinomiya's gaze.

Shinomiya: Hmmph you certainly are quick witted, for that of a Monster. However it will not save, my mission is to neturalize all Kaiju and you will not escape my grasp forever No.8 and after I finish then I will deal with those other strange Kaiju that you spawned.

Kafka's mind froze on the spot at that sentence " What do you mean?" Asked a voice that was a mix of his own and Ai voice.

General Shinomiya's gaze sharpend and spoke " The Monsters and Child will be brought into custody and they all will face judgemet"

The General's words were a bit vague, but everyone who heard them new what he was refering to. It shocked everyone including Kikoru who had been watching along with the others from the control room. Kafka just clung to the celling mind shocked at the implications.

And then all Hell broke loose, Tiny who had remained dormant up until now awoke due to the battle and danger it presented, Ai flew off the handle into a rage, Kafka had lost control over his body and Kaiju No.8 now stood too face the Captain. Kafka couldn't regain any sort of physical function as No.8 went on the attack, not helped by Ai agreeing with Tiny about ripping the man in half.

The battle quickly turned aganist General Shinomiya, as No.8 brought all of there abilities to kill the General. A Gravios's flame sac to breath hellish flames, a Nergigante's powerful claws, the prehensile wings of a Gore Magala, the Silk webs of a Rakna-Kadaki, all of these are what led General Hoshina into a corner. Everyone panicked as they thought the General would meet there end here, even Kafka who was currently exerting all there energy to take back control, had gone stiff with fear that he was going to kill the General.

That was until a familiar scent entered his nose, causing Ai to take the lead and snap towards the direction the scent came from. There stood Rider, no mask, armor, or weapons, only wearing the clothes of there village along with a red furred hood. Next to them stood Ratha and Houdini who stood on there big sibling Ratha's back. There entry unoticed due to the titanic battle taking up everyone's attention, which allowed the trio to sneak in this far undetected. This had everyone panicking in the control room over the trio's safety when No.8 began there steady advance towards the ragtag trio. Kikoru was absolutely shocked that Rider and their Monsties came into the base to see Kafka. General Hoshina was just as shocked, the child and Kaiju they spent months trying to catch just walked right into there base. Soon enough No.8 had made it to the trio and the most shocking thing anyone had ever seen happened.

Rider: Gahh Jumpin' Jaggi Kafka that really tickles.

No.8 began licking the Rider's face like an affecinate cat would do. All while saying " My most precious welp" while giving Rider an impromtu grooming session. The surprises weren't down yet as No.8 turned around and spoke to all to hear " I aM AI, I Am KaFKA HIbinO, anD WE aRe KAiju NO.8" The exhausted Kafka and Ai fainted, and were caught by Rider who had them lying on Ratha's back. After making sure they were secure they turned to General Shinomiya to give them a piece of there mind.

Rider: Listen here old timer, I orginally came here just too talk to you and the other big shots of the Defense Force. Though seeing as you guys decided to do an impromtu execution, I should just kick your ass for that reason alone and leave with my Dad. So you better give a good reason to not do any of that or else you'll not be seeing any of us any time soon.

A wild sassy child appeared, now how will the Defense Force try and get on their good side?

Isao Shinomiya, you fucked up. Not only did this put a damper in the trust between your soldiers but might ruin the only chance of the lifetime to recruit an extremely powerful ally. Also be grateful that Ai didn't take off with Rider cause he been super miserable without his whelps to cherish.

Hoshina and Kikoru practically zoomed down there as fast as they could the moment Kafka passes out. I honestly imagined Berserk No.8 going all chimera on the director's ass since the Monsterpedia gave him infinite inspiration for brutal augmentations. Kafka could handle at most two in base form as Ai would be designing alternate forms that can withstand the strain better.

Although the trust between them got shot thanks to Director Asshole. Something Rider also has to help their poor dad with. Ratha will be a great assistance in that task.
