Unearthing the teddy bear costume you'd purchased from the brown paper shopping bag in your closet, you spun around to face Billy, holding it up. "Isn't it so cute?"

The baby in his lap giggled as he bounced her up and down, reaching her hands out for you. He grinned, nodding enthusiastically. "Real cute, darlin'."

You couldn't help your smile at the adorable sight, sitting with your legs crossed and holding out your arms for your baby girl. Billy passed her over to you, coming to sit right beside you. "Here- she's so wiggly." As you held her, he removed her little shirt, doing the same with her bottoms, all the while speaking sweetly to her. "So pretty, huh? You're gonna look so cute ain'tcha?"

Leaning back into his chest, you helped him get her feet into the bottom part. It was a one piece, so she'd be able to stay cozy all night. Billy worked her arms through, and you zipped her up, pulling the hood over her head. It had little rounded ears at the top of it, melting your heart at the sight. Your lips parted in an awww motion as you held her up. She giggled, waving both her hands at you, and you sat back against Billy.

Turning back to look at him, you saw that his expression was nearly the same as yours. In awe of how adorable she was, all dressed up for her first Halloween. He looked at you with wide eyes. "We made her?"

You dissolved into giggles, burying your head in his chest. "I guess we did." Bringing your baby close to your chest, you hugged her tight. "I just wanna cuddle her all night."

"Don't I get baby cuddles?" Billy frowned mockingly, stretching his hands out. You laughed, passing her over to him.

The sweet picture before you nearly made your heart burst, and you rested your head on his shoulder, an ever-present smile lightening your face. "We did a good job making her."

"Mm, you did most've the work honey," he pointed out, sliding a free arm around your shoulders. "Any cuteness she's got is causa you."

"Yeah but..." you smiled knowingly, raising your eyebrows.

Billy swatted your side playfully. "Not in fronta little miss."

"Hmm!" You leaned up, kissing his cheek and looking back down at your little girl. She was playing with Billy's shirt, grabbing fistfuls and tugging.

Lowering your head, you kissed the top of your baby's, stroking her little cheek and looking into her eyes, blue as her daddy's. "Happy Halloween, sweetheart."

seriously though I was probably like. 60-80% thinking we'd get at least one tweel for chapter 10. but I was NOT expecting it so soon! both of 'em! in August! a shame we're not getting a Coral Sea event after all...but I guess I can be resigned to that and ALSO excited for getting shiny sparkly glowing(!!!!) mertwins along with Azul fighting his inner demons and going right for the eyes! AHHHH I CAN'T WAIT

HER OWN CONCERN is far more intense than she'd expected it to be, her eyebrows knit together in worry as selina's voice cracks. she's just about to pull her in for that hug when the other woman goes on, talking about she's afraid to hurt her.

"you won't hurt me," she replies, her voice hopefully still hanging onto that reassurance that she so desperately wants to give to selina. in any other circumstance, she might find the suggestion amusing -- she is, after all, not a human with a real body, without the real capability to feel pain -- but it sits like a weight in her chest instead, making her feel sorrow for the other. damned human emotions. "you can't hurt me. don't worry about that."

there would be no pain or blood even if she did. rio scoots closer, tucking her leg under herself more so she can rise slightly, and then she's wrapping her arms around a warm body, pulling her close. if that is selina's biggest fear, then she truly is hugging the best person at the current moment, even if rio's skin is probably a bit too cold for a proper hug.

she compensates by stroking a hand in her hair, inviting her to lay against her. to cry, hit her, whatever she may need to do. she is an unmoving statue, as soft as any human, and hopefully comfortable. "i'm right here," she whispers, and she means that.

“yeah.”

her voice breaks. it cracks. it feels a lot like her chest can barely handle what she’s feeling because it’s popping and it’s growing and it’s almost too big to contain itself because it never bursts. it just grows, too big, makes her bone creak with all this feeling she can’t contain.

it’s fucking terrifying. how is she ever supposed to tell anyone about this? how is she supposed to let anyone know when she can’t even let the feeling out? she makes a pitiful sound, and it catches in her throat like a canary. her free hand goes to her mouth quickly, and around the frame of her desperate palm her brow furrows to control it. the half sob refuses to do anything but stick, and it transforms into a muffled, terrified laugh.

“yeah, but i’m afraid i’ll fucking hurt you.”

and what would that matter….? it wouldn’t. it wouldn’t make a difference. but to selina…? selina feels a horrible fear of the entire concept. is she any better than her father if she hurts someone she loves? he’s not your father, she remind herself, but carmine wasn’t any better. neither father is a better choice.

“i’d feel… disgusting if i did.”

it would make her upset. impossibly upset. at herself. she’s constantly losing it. what’s another moment? for once, maybe, she’s doing her best to keep herself level.

“and i already — feel like shit.”
