I just started reading Tomodachi game because I really like 'squidgameesque' type stuff and I recently finished liar game (which I loved, 10/10) and I just have to say, fan service can really ruin a good experience.

I know some dumbass men will try to defend themselves by saying stuff like 'oh fanservice is okay when it's for women but not for us' or some other stuff, but fanservice itself is not the problem, it's how it's done.

For me, two things are important, power dynamics and age.

Why is jujutsu kaisen fan service hot, first the characters aren't in a position to be taken advantage of and the characters being put in these situations ARE NOT CHILDREN!

I feel so bad for Yutori (from Tomodachi game) cuz anytime she's on the page, she's either grossly sexualized by the panel or other characters, or her body is used as a plot point. She is only ever useful when her body is involved. She is visibly uncomfortable when this happens and she is a child!

Look, I get it. Sex sells, and not everyone can be Takehiro Inoue or Shinobu Kaitani, but I promise you can do fanservice in a respectable way.

ok. i'm sorry. i'm on that tomodachi grind right now. it just went down. i NEED to report this. truly historic moment in pee-land island just unfolded on my monitor

beautiful pee-land island right. nishiki's become a bit of a favorite for me. he was actually the first islander to reach level 20. he's kind of just been living the life so far on here. i sent the gallery awhile back. he's been doing real well for himself, between his massive closet, dyed hair, and living underwater because i got bored. he's one of the most popular islanders too, scoring an impressive top 2 on the popularity ranking, as well as getting along really well with a majority of the island

it's not all sunshine and rainbows for the island's #2 fish, though. he's been down on his luck in one specific aspect:

Romance.

in tomodachi life, your islanders can try to get two of their friends together. three (3) separate islanders have attempted to get nishiki together with cynthia (of pokemon gen 4 fame), but every time they walk away from it, still just friends.

this would come to a head when nishiki eventually got the love icon. (pictured below is nishiki kicking his feet and giggling while love icons circle his head)

unfortunately he decided to confess his love with a really bad pickup line (sorry i don't remember the specifics but like. it was dire. i winced), and he ended up getting rejected.

however, in an utterly unprecedented event, nishiki turned his head right back up, and decided to have another go at it. i didn't even know this event could happen prior to this.

unfortunately, cynthia did not even show up to the second invitation. nishiki fell into a depression so i let him go to cambodia. as a treat. for morale.

but there were glimmers of hope. i noticed cynthia's opinion of nishiki only went up after all that happened. kiryu would again try to get them together to no avail, but after that, a prompt showed up for nishiki, going along the lines of "why would kiryu want us together? oh now i'm curious". she even returned to him his lost mug. and like, i don't know. i was feeling pretty optimistic after that. i was very much rooting for nishiki at this point. what can i say, it was really cute. it became my crackship. i wanted to see it happen. even took this picture in the photo studio cause i thought it'd be cute

how romantic. alright. now cut to last night. i boot up the game, get my fountain donations, yadda yadda it's cool. i check out the clothing shop for the daily rotation of outfits, and i spot this.

it looks exactly like the suit he wears in yakuza 1. and i'm like hell yeah. i've had him wear a bunch of outfits so it's nice to see one so accurate (I've been waiting for a suit for Kiryu since I've added him). i get excited and get him fitted.

i'm feeling pretty good after this. i go about doing the island rounds. eventually, cynthia's problem icon pops up and i go to see what's up. it wasn't just any problem icon though. it was the big heart

as i said before her opinion of nishiki was only getting better. and i'm like, oh my god. it's all coming together. it might be happening. i'm jumping up and down. then i open the door

KAZUMA KIRYU. SHE FELL FOR KAZUMA KIRYU

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT. TOMODACHI LIFE CRASHED MY CRACKSHIP. HOW COULD I LET THIS HAPPEN TO MYSELF

AND IT WENT REALLY WELL. THEY'RE OFFICIALLY DATING NOW. STILL HAPPY FOR THEM BUT THEY CRASHED MY CRACKSHIP. STOLE IT FROM ME. RIPPED IT FROM MY HANDS. THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT HAPPENS IN YAKUZA 1 TOO WITH YUMI. WHAT THE HELL

that suit is cursed. i'm sure of it now. i gotta dye his hair back and put kiryu in the jail room now. fate never rests for the brothers. what the hell.

i then saved the game and NISHIKI JUMPSCARE HE'S HERE TOO

i was still reeling over it, then i got curious. i headed for the beach and started up judgment bay.

19:2 ratio. i'm crying. only kiryu himself (As well as competitive Pokemon staple and famed #girlboss Landorus-Therian, who is standing behind Kiryu's massive head) still see the good in him. i'm in shambles

whatever this island has in store for nishiki i just pray it goes well for him. he was living the life here, and the last thing i want to see is that being taken away from him. i hope this does not cascade to another shirtless fistfight on an observation deck.

Late night gaming

I'm thinking of making another Tumblr just so I can rant about different shows / games / books I have recently finished or am obsessed with. If I do it, this will be my icon.

I honestly do wanna make another Tumblr for these rants, mainly because I want a better log of what I thought about different series and what-not, but man, it's been hard to make myself do anything recently.

Anyhoo, I've been doing a lot of fanart recently due to my 3x3 of my favorite girl characters and I'm starting to miss doing original art. After I finish that, I'll probably start posing more original art. Or more Yona art I'm so weak.

Oh, also, in case anyone's wondering, I'm probably playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Tomodachi Life on my 3ds in this drawing. I'm so weak for those games; the Nintendo 3ds has a chokehold on my childhood.

im bored so heres a list of 3ds games i like that you should download if you have hshop

-Parascientific Escape Trilogy: basically a mix of puzzle, mystery and visual novel. the games involve a lot of psychic and ESP themes (hence, parascientific) so if yer interested in like telekinesis and whatever i recommend it. also theres a scene in the 1st game where one of the characters straight up tells the protag “im gonna call the police” in the most polite and kind way possible and its great

-Legend of Dark Witch Trilogy: a sidescrolling platformer thats basically just megaman but with anime girls. the game is in a retro sprite style that looks awesome and the music is a banger, however its uh. very hard. even on easy. you might have to replay the levels a lot but as long as you remember to level up your stats youll be fine. besides getting a game over doesnt wipe yer progress or anything. if yer a fan of megaman you should get it cause its like a spiritual successor (like how yooka-laylee is inspired by banjo-kazooie and pizza tower is inspired by wario land)

-Pocket Card Jockey: i don’t really like card games but i still really like this one. mainly its bc its funny as hell. like in the very beginning your character straight up dies via getting trampled by horses. anyway, the game is essentially solitaire mixed with horse racing. if you go in not knowing how to play solitaire (like i did) you may find it a little hard but its still really fun regardless. the game’s artstyle is also just really nice to look at bc it makes everyone look... idk, toyish? playmobile? i wouldnt say its chibi but its close. anyway if you like comedy and puzzle games please play this game its great

-Tomodachi Life: this game is like if nintendo made their own version of the sims. basically, you run an island populated by the miis you create and you have to solve their problems. it can get a bit repetitive but never completely stale as a lot of wild things can happen. for example, on one of my playthroughs chikorita from pokemon and dedede from kirby married and had like 3 kids. like in any other situation the concept would be cursed but here its so ridiculous that its good. also, like pocket card jockey, there’s a lot of comedy aspects. this is probably the most iconic game out of the ones im listing here, so if you like life sims and memes, this is the game for you!

-Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido: yeah, most of the games im suggesting have stupid premises that are executed surprisingly well. in a world where fish doesn’t exist, literal freaking GODS make sushi. of course, nobody has tried seafood in this universe, so an ongoing war is happening over it. your job as the protag is to make sure everyone is able to get sushi without risking their life for it. yeah, sounds dumb, but the battle system for defeating enemies is really satisfying, as you link together pieces of sushi and yeet the empty plates at yer opponent. if crack taken seriously is yer thing, you should get it!

aaaaaand thats all i can think of rn. if you have hshop on yer 3ds then you should get these games bc their really cool and fun thanks :D

Things I’d want in a tomodachi life switch port (aside from the obvious ability to make queer miis):

The ability to make seperate family trees so if I don’t want two miis dating I don’t need to make them all related to me

Small icons next to food items after I’ve given them to a mii that shows if they slightly dislike it or not bc it gets so annoying when I feed them and they don’t like because it’s just the tick next to the food

Makeup n wig feature from miitopia 🙏🙏

More gifts I can give them

More song types or at least different songs in the categories we already have. Please I’m sick of the same beat for the pop songs

More games I can play with them that aren’t quizzes (like the wrestling or catch game)

Uhhhh permanent dog or cat in the room that I also can pet. Give pet. Also maybe like a bird pet I think that would be nice

Make the ages actually matter ish. Like if I make a mii six could they act a lil younger. Also more of a relationship gap for underage miis because a mii who is 17 can date a mii who is like a toddler and I don’t think I wanna chance that

I was wondering, what first got you into Caddicarus?

i'll try to make this as concise as possible (but it might still be long lol sorry):

in early 2014, my parents cancelled cable, which meant i could no longer watch my favorite cartoons (i didn't know kimcartoon existed at this time lol). my grandparents would eventually let us use their xfinity account to watch cable online, but even then i was starting to grow bored of cartoons. so like most nerdy 12-year-olds at the time - after i had my brief dreamworks obsession and disney hate phase of course - i started seeking out content on youtube that peaked my interest...specifically gaming content.

the thing is, i was never a big let's play person - i had no interest in mark or jack's content, and i would occasionally watch game grumps, but i always preferred scripted comedy review stuff.

by july i came across the normalboots guys (jontron, peanutbuttergamer, didyouknowgaming, the completionist, and others) when looking for tomodachi life reviews. then i found their sister site/group hidden block (brutalmoose, spacehamster, jimmy whetzel, yungtown, balrogthemaster and of course...caddicarus!).

most of these reviewers specialized in nintendo game reviews, as that's what they grew up with. and most of the kids i knew at school either had xbox or nintendo consoles. but i was raised in a playstation family. i had nintendo handhelds, but as far as home consoles went, we had playstation. even my extended family were all playstation owners. and i couldn't find any AVGN-style reviewers who grew up with playstation...until i came across caddicarus!

i scrolled past his channel a bunch when looking through PBG's featured channels, but i never thought to check it out.

on the night of august 21st, 2014, when i found caddy's iconic phoenix games review titled THE WORST GAME EVER MADE, i had found a scripted comedy game review show...that looked at playstation games!!! kinda like how onward made me feel represented with its depiction of loving siblings and nerd culture, the caddicarus show made me feel represented as someone who grew up with playstation.

that would basically be my main special interest until march 2019 when i grew disinterested and unsatisfied with the quality of the show. i would return 3 and a half years later when i discovered just how amazing his newer videos are, and how better they are than the ones i grew up with. so yeah, i love both caddicarus show iterations for totally different reasons. XD
