I find it kind of funny that when it comes the Fast Forward characters TMNT fans hope make a comeback in other iterations, it's almost always the Dark Turtles that get brought up, but I personally ended up latching onto the Inuwashi Gunjin.
Like when comparing the Gunjin to the Dark Turtles purely from a writing standpoint, I get why the Gunjin get very little, if any, love from the fanbase despite appearing in just as many episodes. The overwhelming problem with the Gunjin is that although there are four of them, it feels as though they're only one character. The only one with a substantial amount of dialogue and thus characterization is the Gold Gunjin; the Red Gunjin gets a couple of lines in, but the Silver and Orange Gunjin never even speak outside generic grunts/cries in all of their appearances. As a consequence, the other three Gunjin don't really feel like their own characters, but merely extensions of the Gold Gunjin and thus aren't particularly interesting as individuals or as a group. In contrast, the Dark Turtles do have individual personalities and are thus inherently more interesting by that alone, never mind that their final appearance teased the possibility that that they were going to end up switching sides and joining the Good Guys(tm) (which would have happened had the second season of Fast Forward not been cancelled in favor of Back to the Sewer. Damn you, Back to the Sewer.)
However, I think the reason I like the Inuwashi Gunjin so much is because, to me, they are so profoundly tragic. The Gunjin are a proud race of warriors with a strong code of honor, and are clearly not bad people whatsoever. Unfortunately, because the wars they fought in ended and all they're seemingly good for is fighting, they were rendered obsolete--we have no idea what happened to the rest of the Inuwashi Gunjin but by the time of Fast Forward, the four we see in the series are seemingly the only ones left. When we first meet them in the second episode of the season, they are bound to stasis generators by Darius, which he uses to torture them and keep them under control "like dogs," as the Leader puts it, a situation that they spend their first two appearances trying to get out of. While they are eventually able to walk free, because they are the last of their kind, their final episode appearance had a collector of rare aliens capture them in order to put on them on display like trading cards. Knowing how much time they already spent in stasis thanks Darius, it's a pretty messed up situation to be in and goes to show how they're considered more of a unique novelty now than actual people.
Beyond that, I do believe that had more effort been put into their individual characterizations, the Inuwashi Gunjin would have been yet another interesting four group ensemble to contrast the turtles; however, whereas the Dark Turtles are their "evil" counterparts with the potential to be good, the Inuwashi Gunjin would have been older, more worldly versions of themselves to learn and take notes from. It is a fact that, thanks to advertising for a cancelled set of figures, we know that the Gunjin do have names; the gold Gunjin is "Leader" while his brothers (note: we don't know if they're actually related or if it's just short for "brothers in arms") are Hothead, Sage, and Joker. And the Leader Gunjin's characterization does genuinely make me think of Leonardo, albeit more mature and a bit wiser. Because of this, I can easily see Hothead as being Raphael but with more control over his anger, Sage as Donatello but not as hard on himself when he fails others, and Joker as Michelangelo but more focused and thus able to better apply his natural talents. All of this is just speculation, mind you, but it still would have been interesting had it actually happened in the show.
Overall, yeah, the Inuwashi Gunjin are a bit on the boring side and I get that, but like a lot of stuff from Fast Forward, they do have some great untapped potential and fandom is all about doing what canon would not, so let me have my fun with the metallic birb men, damn it.

Hiii can you pretty please tell me about your tmnt OC's? I absolutely love hearing about people's OC's and a little birdie told me you have some.
fjsfdfjghjgfdhg ask and you shall receive
So I wanna say I actually have quite a few TMNT OCs? But at this point, I've only got three "main" OCs that exist properly within some of the various universes I've conjured up for 2003 (the main differences between them being whether the Ninja Tribunal season as well as Turtles Forever are treated as canon or not)
First OC is my dear Iseult Lanigera, who probably needs the least amount of introduction just because I already talk about her so much. She's a member of a dying species of aliens known as the Iorans whose homeworld, Andemon, was destroyed by Sh'Okanabo; she was lucky enough to escape thanks to the sacrifice of her older brother, and she was ultimately taken in by the leader of the Inuwashi Gunjin, Shouma, who raised her like a daughter and has given her extensive combat training (the Gunjin have been reminagined as a nomadic species of alien collectively known as the Washi, with the Inuwashi Gunjin being only one of many clans that travel the known universe.) She was originally involved in the mercenary business like her adoptive family, but after an unfortunate encounter with Torbin Zixx that led to her becoming stranded on Earth and meeting the turtles, she's instead chosen to focus on her a certain gardening project of hers that she hasn't had the time for until now.
Personality-wise, Iseult is easily described as serious, independent, selfless, intelligent, and painfully stubborn. While she tends to behave in a very guarded, almost aloof manner around strangers, close friends agree that's she's genuinely a sweet, kind, and empathetic young woman who unfortunately struggles with a lot of personal issues (namely a strong fear of abandonment and difficulty trusting others.) She loves studying botany and is quick to accumulate a vast knowledge of Earth's plant life, and she is also known to dabble in singing and songwriting. Of the four turtles, she ends up becoming closest with Donatello and later develops romantic feelings for him, although they initially encounter some hiccups in their relationship due to Iseult's personal issues and, well, * gestures at all the traumatizing crap the turtles deal with on a regular basis * Her weapon in combat is a pair of strength-enhancing gauntlets and she is the definition of a glass cannon; she hits fast and she hits hard, but is easily thrown around due to her small stature, so much of her battle style revolves around hit-and-run tactics.
Second on the list is Imai Primavera. In the official "Starverse" lore (I'm not sure what else to call my collection of related TMNT 2003 universes), Venus and Primavera were once a pair of newly orphaned human sisters who were kidnapped by members of a Japanese cult of sorcerers known as the Order of the New Moon. The intent was to turn them into mindless demons completely subservient to the Order's will; however, something happened during the ritual and instead of becoming monstrous demons, they were turned into benevolent turtle yokai. The Ancient One rescued the two girls, but after what happened with Yoshi, Tang Shen, and Mashimi, he couldn't bring himself to raise any more children, so he chose to leave them in the care of his friend, Imai Jun; as his day job, Jun is the head priest of a shrine found deep in a forest in Japan's Gifu Prefecture, but he was a former pupil of Kon of the Ninja Tribunal and is a ninja in his own right. Venus and Primavera spent the next ten years living in near-total solitude until the day came where the shrine was destroyed, Jun was killed, and Primavera was kidnapped by the attackers. Venus subsequently traveled all the way to New York to find her; after the turtles help Venus locate her and rescue her from her captors, the two sisters ultimately end up living with them and are welcomed into Clan Hamato by Splinter.
Age-wise, Primavera is significantly younger than her sister and the other turtles (about four years, so she'd be 13 post-Season 5 if we assume the turtles are 17 by that point.) When compared to the others, she tends to be even quieter than Don and can come off as shy, although that more has to do with her lack of confidence speaking English. (She knows more than she's comfortable using in a conversation, if that makes sense.) When she does speak, though? She's known to have an exceptionally sharp tongue and delivers legendary roasts on a regular basis. It's revealed over time that a lot of Primavera's blunt mannerisms stem from insecurities over her perceived ineptitude at ninjutsu, as well as the belief that she's worthless to the team in a fight. She does start to mellow out with time and becomes a lot sweeter and affectionate with all of the turtles, a change that is especially noteworthy in the case of Michelangelo, as she was initially outright hostile towards him due to jealousy over his natural talent at martial arts. (She even takes to calling him "nii-san," which she initially only reserved for Raph.) As a wielder of the yumi, she specializes in long-range fighting and is noted to be physically the weakest of the turtles due to her smaller size and young age.
And last but not least, we've got the newest addition to my roster of OCs, P1K4. The entire concept for this little guy is "a robot who will die if it does receive affection," which is sad because look at her! She's adorable!
Anyway, P1K4 is an advanced AI created by an extinct species of alien known as the Sagittans, who were unfortunately wiped out when their own robotic creations went rogue and turned against them. Poor P1K4 was one of the only robots who didn't turn against the Sagittans, as she was specifically created in an effort to avert the predicted singularity event by giving her a need that no other robot on her world had--a need for socialization. P1K4's oval-shaped body contains a micro-generator that activates only when she detects heat signatures from organic beings that she is in physical contact with; energy generation is further amplified when she receives positive acts of affection such as pets and cuddles. Giving her these design features was in the hope that she would develop an empathy for organic beings, which she did, but it ultimately proved too little too late for the Sagittans.
After her creator was killed during the Sagittan Singularity War, P1K4 escaped the Sagittan homeworld via a Triceraton scouting ship that came to survey the situation (good thing too, as the Triceratons proceeded to blow up the planet due to the danger the Sagittan AIs posed.) P1K4 spent the next fifty Earth years hiding among the Triceraton asteroid colonies until she ended up on Earth during the Triceraton invasion, her battery slowly draining because... Well, Triceratons are not all that cuddly and most other species show little to no empathy for robots. She fell into the sewers and spent several months wandering the tunnels until she was finally forced to stop, as she had nearly depleted what remained of her energy stores. Just as she was about to shut down for good, she was found by Donatello and Michelangelo while they were exploring the tunnels. They took her back to the lair, Donatello fixed her up, and she ultimately becomes something of a beloved pet to him the same way Klunk is to Mikey.
Knowing all this, it goes without saying that P1K4's is an incredibly affectionate and social little thing, and is noted to have an almost child-like curiosity of the world around her. Under normal circumstances, she is only able to communicate using a combination of beeps, chirps, and whistles (kinda like R2-D2), although when connected to something like Donatello's laptop, she is able to communicate her thoughts in clear, concise English. It's in these moments that she reveals herself to be a very thoughtful, concerned individual, and admits that she often wonders whether she even has a "soul" as a non-organic being.
Small note: Although P1K4 technically does not have a gender, she does prefer being referred to by feminine pronouns, as her personality was based on her creator's deceased daughter.

Fast Forward
For a season that's much more lighthearted and takes place in the future, the brighter colors and more angular art style works (literally, the only things I truly dislike about the art style is the pentagon heads and how damn bright they made Raph's mask. My eyes actually hurt looking at it)
I also consider the gear the turtles wear this season a vast improvement over the original brown leather from the first five seasons. The dark blue armor they wear over their arms and legs makes them look more stealthy and I love the individualized chest plates.
The weapons from this season are an absolute chef kiss. I've already gushed before about how much I love the additional functions, such as Leo and Raph being able to toss theirs like boomerangs or Don's bō being able to produce winds/sound waves(?) when spun.
While they do sometimes make the turtles too goofy in this season (as in "he would not fucking say that" kind of goofy), I do agree that it is really nice to be able to see them finally act like teenagers out in the open instead of needing to hide in the sewers all day. They can finally get hot dogs like normal people now!
Compared to Chris Thorndyke of Sonic X, Cody Jones is nowhere near the same levels of annoying and there are actually quite a few episodes where he is genuinely enjoyable as a character (also, whichever one of you said that Leo's arc didn't feel complete until he got his own student to teach with Cody being that student: you're absolutely right.)
Listen: I get that the Inuwashi Gunjin are kinda boring as characters, but hear me out. Tragic alien bird men who are in a painfully similar situation to the turtles where they are the last four of their kind and who were genuinely never bad to begin with; unfortunately, they are seen as little more than a commodity between their forced servitude to Darius and their last appearance literally having them kidnapped in order to be displayed like trading cards.
Sh'Okanabo, as a concept, is absolutely terrifying. The entire deal with the Kanabo Drones and the Day of Awakening is basically a vampire/zombie apocalypse combo pack and the knowledge that he's already destroyed several planets before Earth... Like damn, imagine what they would have done with this guy had he shown up a couple of seasons earlier?
Knowing how much the fanbase loves the Dark Turtles, I don't think I need to explain those four in-depth. So much potential that was unfortunately never given the chance to fully blossom due to the second season getting cancelled in favor of Back to the Sewer.
Of all the episodes in Fast Forward, "Invasion of the Body Snatcher" and "Graduation: Class of 2105" are easily some of my favorites. The former shows that, yes, TMNT 2003 can be a lighter, softer show while still maintaining the characterizations of the turtles and Splinter (I genuinely cannot recall a single out of character line from that episode.) For the latter, while it does rehash the whole "Mikey would be the best ninja of his brothers if he just focused more" plot, the lighter tone of the season actually works in the episode's favor in helping it feel distinct from earlier episodes like "Touch and Go" and "Grudge Match." Beyond that, it is overall a very touching episode that shows just how tight the brothers are to the point that Leo, Raph, and Don didn't want to graduate to Chunin without Mikey (as well as how much Splinter wants ALL of his sons to succeed.)
Other honorable mentions: Future Shellshock, Obsolete, The Freaks Come Out at Night, The Journal, Timing is Everything, Race For Glory, Turtle X-tinction, DNA is Thicker Than Water, Zixxth Sense, The Day of Awakening
"Look, a glitch." "Beg your pardon?" TMNT 2003 once again sneaking things past the cenors
Back to the Sewer
The turtles go back to their original gear for this season and while I'm sad to see the Fast Forward outfits go, I appreciate that they use a darker brown for their belts and joint pads. (It looks a lot better than the original color imo.)
I also like the designs of the weapons from this season; I really like that the wrappings on the grips are a darker color than their associated turtles' mask (although the way they're drawn on Don and Mikey's weapons is a little odd; luckily this was fixed in Turtles Forever)
The Turtles are arguably at their most fashionable this season and while these designs were likely intended for toys that never came to be, it's actually nice to see the turtles' wardrobe get expanded between stuff like the sports gear and stealth outfits.
This is the season where the turtles openly address Splinter as "father" when speaking with him. While I never disliked that he was pretty much always referred to as "Master Splinter" for the first six seasons, I always felt like the turtles should have swapped between the two depending on the situation. (IE "Master Splinter" for more formal instances where he is being treated as their teacher and "Father" for moments where they are being affectionate or seeking parental support.)
While I have mixed feelings about Don's arc from the start of the season, I do genuinely appreciate that they did try to finally give him a significant character development arc (even if it did end up feeling like a watered down version of Leo's S4 arc and not something uniquely Don.)
As cringey as the mid/late 2000s gamer slang is, SuperQuest is easily my favorite episode from this season. They took advantage of the season's cyberspace plot to do something wacky yet fun with the turtles, and it gave us Hun's much beloved "hardcore gamer" line. Also Leo turned into a cat and then later a lion. Get it?
Wedding Bells and Bytes was a satisfying conclusion to Casey and April's romance, Back to the Sewer, and TMNT 2003 as a whole, even if I do question the choice of having Karai and Chaplin attend the wedding.
Also the Ninja Tribunal.
And having both Bishop and the Rat King watch from a distance.
Seriously, I know we always talk about Bishop, BUT WHY THE RAT KING?
AND WHERE ARE ROBYN AND UNCLE AUGIE?
Come to think of it, what are all the aspects of Fast Forward and Back to the Sewer that I am more than willing to defend on a given day? I feel like there is a lot more than I let on in my posts.
