Winter is such an icon. she exists as a distant concept for 3 whole books, characters mentioning the Lunar princess here and there. the mentions increase in frequency because Jacin joins the crew and he obviously has a whole history with her, and Scarlet goes to Luna so we get to hear her voice a couple of times mostly to annoy Levana ("father would have given her to me" is so perfect). and then 5 minutes before the end of the penultimate book, there she finally is, on page, talking about "the walls are bleeding" and effortlessly tricking everyone around her and you can hear the applause and cheering from the audience bc the star has appeared and is ready to take her place among the leads. an ICON

i should probably make a lunar chronicles blog to say all this shit but god. i miss them so bad. i need to see them on the big screen one way or another. i need to see kai and cinder's awkward first meeting and her - a five star professional mechanic - literally slamming his tech on its side in an effort to fix it. i need to see cinder crashing the ball in a rain-soaked dress. i need to see her and thorne break out of jail and thorne tell her about starting a prison riot over fucking soap while she just stares at him without a drop of amusement in her eyes, only for them to become best friends. i need to see scarlet aim a gun at wolf and hear wolf tell her to aim at his head because it makes for a more fatal shot, and the sick, nasty parallels later. i need to see cress and thorne stumbling over the dessert, navigating more than just sand dunes. i need to see iko get her new body and feel herself for the first time. i need to see jacin being a jackass to everyone because he's been raised in a place where being anything but harsh will ruin him. i need to see him helping winter through her hallucinations, the two of them holding back their affections at every moment because they can't display them without someone getting hurt. i need to see the final showdown, the "nice shot, cress." i need to see them all eating lemon cake at the end after weeks of eating canned military food on the rampion, eating with their hands because they all forgot cutlery, getting frosting all over their fingers. i need-

i like to think that bc cinder had peony’s ID chip with her when she danced with Kai, that kai was able to fulfill his promise of dancing with her, even though it wasn’t in a manner any of them had hoped for

Plot holes in the lunar chronicles that I’ve noticed on my millionth read through that WILL NOT detract from my enjoyment:

1) Marissa Meyer does not know how freckles work

see Cress having freckles despite zero sun exposure (but ig probably the exact amount of vitamin D she’s supposed to get) aboard the satellite

2) Cinder is wasian/more generally mixed raced and Channary looks so similar to Cinder that Kai sees a portrait of her and thinks for a moment that it is Cinder… but Levana is… white?

I guess the logical conclusion is that levana is also wasian, but I feel as tho that is not the authorial intent bc that is white woman behavior if I’ve ever seen it

the other logical conclusion and the one I personally subscribe to is that Cinder’s father had Asian heritage, but Channary and Levana were white and Cinder just… westernizes/whitewashes herself a little when she uses her glamour…??? Like… to match westernized beauty standards?

idk neither answer is particularly satisfying but I feel as tho the series is thematically stronger if the former lunar queens who want to do colonization, genocide, and imperialism are white women.

3) Dr. Erland should’ve absolutely infected Cinder and Thorne in that tunnel based on the absolutely unhinged and unrealistic but pre-established rules of letamosis

They were in very close quarters for at least an hour as he was entering stage 2 or 3 of the disease. They should’ve all been fucked. (Not to mention how closely Erland interacted with Thorne when they went to the labs)

4)… shouldn’t Dr Erland have had a perfectly good letumosis antidote on him (or at least on the Rampion) yk, from when he stole it from the palace and fled the country???

What happened to that huh? Did we just forget about her?

I feel like I poured myself into the "True Love Comes Softly" fic and I'm so glad I finished it. It's wonderful to hear that others like it so much!! <3

I had so much fun with that pioneer OUAT world that I've got a sequel half planned out and I've started to write it but it's got a long way to go. Your comment is almost providential because I've actually been back to writing a bit for the first time in forever (for another fandom) and it makes me hopeful I will get back to writing Red Cricket.

So thank you again!! I miss Red Cricket and I am always excited to hear that others love them, too.
