i talked a while ago (when i was first doing durge!cyrus' playthrough) about his post-game build being an oath of the ancients paladin, really emphasizing its joyousness and healing after a lifetime of denying himself both things. as i conceive of it for canon durge!cyrus, though, living as an adventurer with wyll & astarion, it's very much something he has to grow into. for a couple of years, he instead continues his bad habit of sacrificial overcorrecting as an oath of redemption paladin of ilmater... and gets himself killed a few more times

(i have some vague fragments of dialogue in my head of him & halsin talking about it after wyll & astarion have to take cyrus to him for resurrection for the umpteenth time... bc i love angst.)

but as a druid & a cleric, i think bryn is uniquely well-positioned to help cyrus make that transition sooner, guiding him to the tenets of the ancients as an extension of her own relationship to nature.

working on that prompt also got me thinking-- what does faith in the faithwarden look like? with bryn being the object of cyrus' ceaseless devotion and worship, what of her beliefs and practices would he adopt or try to emulate? he thinks her magic--even in its more rotted forms--is the most beautiful thing he's ever known, and he also wants to be worthy of that beauty & the responsibility of stewarding it

augh and the immense pride he'd have in himself the first time he used any of his healing abilities--whether it's healing radiance or lay on hands or a good old cure wounds--on bryn... paying back all the love she's ever given him by healing her in return..........

The man let out a loud scream of pain. As soon as he grabbed her hand and thought he had her in his grasp, she pulled out her knife and stabbed him all with that damned smile on her face.

Solana violently pulled the knife out of his bleeding wound as she roughly pulled him up and threw him onto the floor of the ship.

The man watched as the first carefree woman hopped from the edge of the ship and stood before him, blood dripping from her blade.

"Let's cut the charade, you are no man of mine." She hissed, glaring down at him. "You've been tryin' to take my life this whole time."

She watched as he held his wound in a weak attempt of defending himself. She simply let her hair down, approaching him as a trail of blood followed behind her. For a brief moment, she took her eyes off of him, looking out onto the sea. "I know underwater there are packs of you, hiding."

She knelt down to be eye level with the siren, a sinister, almost satisfied grin on her face as she yanked him up by his hair.

"Yeah, I know exactly what you are, a siren."

Soon, the disguise came off. Scaly skin, dark, soulless eyes, almost horrific features. She couldn't believe that thing even tried to impersonate her beloved. She let out a small scoff as she pressed her knife against his cheek as she spoke.

"My real man knows I'm not scared of the water." She started, pressing harder and drawing more blood as she spoke again. "And my real man knows I don't have a daughter."

But while you were so focused on turning my men into snacks," she sliced her knife against his cheek, standing as the siren tried to fall forward in pain, but her grip on his hair kept him up.

"You didn't notice that your friends got snatched."

"What!?"

She roughly threw him against the deck, walking off. After a while, she came back dragging a net full of sirens courtesy of her crew, and cut it open with a simple snip! Watching as they all fell onto the deck like fish out of water. Though, they technically were.

"We've been away from home for about 12 months or so," she started, wiping the blood off of her knife with a bored expression. "First, we slayed in our own war, and now, we're here with more foes."

She twirled her now clean knife in her hand, circling around them like a predator she stared at the now helpless creatures.

"While on the run from Poseidon, we found a ship with no crew." She pointed her knife at them and staring at them pointedly at them like she caught him red-handed. "I realized nearby, there were sirens, singing sailors to their dooms."

The girl then stopped, moving a part of hair back to reveal something yellow in her ear. "We filled our ears with beeswax, that's how we resist your song." She chuckled, putting a hand on her hip casually. "You pretended to be my man, so I just played along."

Solana approached the bleeding siren lying weakly on the deck of the ship, kneeling once again and grabbing his face with one hand, her free one pressing her knife against his throat. "I read your lips and phrases, scanning for information," Her thumb traced his bottom lip, her eyes cold and calculating."Sirens know about every route and horizon, Now I know how to get back to my camp."

"Spare us! Oh, spare us, please!"

In a last ditch effort to save their own hides, the sirens started to beg, watching as her golden eyes bore into theirs, unchanging.

Once they were done, she only looked bored, almost disgusted with their little stunt.

"Why? So you can kill the next group of sailors in this part of the sea?" She asked with a sadistic grin in an condescending tone, before letting out a laugh. "Nah, you wouldn't have spared me."

"I made a mistake like this, it almost cost our lives," she gripped her knife, shaking with restrained rage. "I can't take more risks of not seeing my man."

Within seconds, she sliced the siren's throat open, standing up as the creature's blood stained the floorboards of the deck, her shirt and her shoes, but she didn't care less as she wiped the blood off of her face and called:

"Cut off their tails! We're ending this now!"

She turned to the sirens, that cold and sadistic grin on her face again as her eyes glinted with bloodthirst.

"Throw their bodies back in the water, let them drown."

Anyway *melts into the floor*
