I’m glad you noticed!!! There’s no, like, deep significance behind it or anything, but I’ve been doing it for a long time. At this point it’s just because I think it would fit her sense of style! I try to differentiate each of the Kisaragi girls in their own subtle ways if possible since otherwise they all wear the same thing, so for Mayu that’s the socks (and sometimes earrings). Similarly I’ll usually try to give Seiko a slightly more orange/ginger shade of brown hair compared to Naomi’s darker brown hair just so they stand out from each other more.

There is also a really old Mayu fanart from Pixiv from like 2012 where she wears those exact socks too. I can picture it so clearly in my head but I can’t find it atm so you’ll just have to take my word for it I guess lol. I think that’s why I started doing it!
