For a lot of people, yes, there's a difference. For most people, probably.

But you're also not alone in finding the difference difficult to distinguish. There's even a term for it: Quoiromantic (or, if you prefer, it's sometimes called "wtfromantic").

A lot of people will talk up healthy romances as having components of both romantic and friendship attraction. Because you can also be attracted to people in more than one way (there's. A lot of types of attraction. You usually see sexual, romantic, platonic, aesthetic, and sensual, and alterous).

I think the distinction can be difficult for people because there's less a clear definition of romance than there is...sex. Whether or not you want sex with someone is, while not necessarily a clear answer, is generally a clear question. Whether or not you want romance with someone gets immediately into the weeds of what romance even is.

...I suspect alloro people don't have difficultly questioning that. But here we are in aro ace land, where everything relationship-wise is questioned.

Anyway, I really love being able to answer these types of questions for people. I love being able to educate on ace and aro stuff beyond the 101 of "What it is" and into the messier stuff that helps people with less clear answers identify themselves.

Either way, I think it's good you're exploring what you genuinely want from your relationships with other people, and what might actually genuinely make you happy.

Well! I started identifying as bisexual in uhhh ~ 2010 and then swapped to pansexual in 2013 and kept that label. In 2014, I came out as trans and ended up picking up the gay label due to my general love of men and how I felt being mlm was important to me. As for your second question, both! I DO use the split attraction model ! (Pansexual + gay + Demi-quoiromantic) but I also just. Am pan and gay. I honesty don’t get why this is such a big deal because back in the early 2000s and 2010s gay was literally synonymous with pretty much any queer sexual identity. Mspec people said they were gay all the time. Lesbians often also just said they were gay while these days I’ve seen people argue against lesbians saying that (which is equally as stupid). @ every younger queer… Listen. If you like the same gender in any capacity, you can call yourself gay if you want to. It’s literally that simple!

ive already seen stuff about this so i want to make it clear. i hope people realize that john mulaney relapsing, having to go to rehab, divorcing his wife and then immediately after dating someone else and having a kid with her is one thing, it's a series of things that happened to him and that are none of our business, they don't impact anybody else's lives except john's and the people directly involved, that's why people were defending him back then and talking about not putting him on a pedestal because he's not perfect etc

john mulaney platforming a transhomophobe without a warning, and cheering him on and clapping and hugging him etc is a completely different thing. dude that HURTS people, that's a direct attack towards his vastly queer online audience. it involves all of us

so here's my point. "stop putting celebrities on a pedestal" worked for the first part, john was considered this untouchable being, and then he did something that was kinda ehhhhhhh and we know what happened

but THIS IS DIFFERENT. the pedestal is on the ground. we are ground fucking floor baby! the standard is literally "don't be a bigot" AND HE DID THAT. there is no pedestal girl it's basic common sense

one thing is elevating someone to godhood, giving them the untouchable perfect person status, and being disappointed when they do one thing that makes them less perfect. another is expecting the bare fucking minimum (not being a bigot) and being met with bigotry.

Alibi - The Jester/“Zinnia”. all pronouns. literally,, when i was thinking of the identities to give xym, i just wrote down “whoops! all gender” and i think that says a lot about rot. trans, nonbinary, pangender, pansexual, asexual, panromantic. AuDHD (autism + ADHD).

very genuine question : how can one be both pan and gay? im reallx trying to understand mspec gays/lesbians but im struggling to find anyone who actually explains their experiences (you dont have to ofc im just interested)

I've already explained this in the past, but I guess I can do a recap. First- [read this post I made here], as it gives a brief explanation and I need you to have that baseline understanding before I get into the more complicated stuff here, alright?

Now- With the understanding that somebody can simply like anybody regardless of gender, and have a gender preference. I have some more to add onto that and ask of you:

If your first thought is "isn't that omnisexual?" No, not really. It depends entirely on who you ask, when I started identifying as pansexual, omnisexuals definition was "likes most, but not all genders".

Secondly, Why are you so pressed about what words other queer people use to define themselves??

Why Do you NEED to understand somebodies identity?

My full list of labels that I use to define myself, is an agender trans masc faggot whos demi-quoiromantic, Ambiamorous and pansexual gay. I do not expect most of you to know what those words mean! And that's totally okay! I do not need you to fully understand the nuances of my gender presentation and sexuality! The labels I use, are for myself to help myself better understand where my attractions lie due to the fact i'm autistic and for other people who Do get it.

Its sort of ... the people who need to understand, will understand.

And ontop of that- all of my personal gender and sexuality fuckery aside, another more basic reason somebody may identify as an mspec gay or lesbian- is due to the split attraction model. It is very possible for somebody to be panromantic homosexual. They could love regardless of gender, but only be sexually attracted to one. And that is also valid! Not all relationships need sex and its not the end all be all of relationships.

Hopefully this helps you all understand a bit better. I'm always open to normal, sane, questions about my sexuality and experiences with it- but I will not tolerate any discourse or bigotry and that'll result in a swift block.
